We have been vacationing on the Cote d'Azur for the past few years. Of course, we always come for coffee, to the shops and for a walk along the promenade. The last time we were there was during the film festival and it was understandably full of visitors.

What's really disappointing about all the beach bars is their menus are pretty much a replication of one another. There are very little options for vegetarians, either risotto or pasta. It's like 10 years ago in the UK
Lisa Cerdan — Google review
Popularly known as Palais des Festivals et des Congres", La Croisette is about 22 km long promenade in Cannes along the shore of the Mediterranean Sea where the Cannes Film Festival is held. There is a sidewalk with hotels, casinos, brand stores, a rose garden and places with lots of shady trees where families meet and spend their quality time. There are interesting places around this place to stroll and explore. If you are falling short of time or do not have energy for a walk, then one can enjoy a small touristic city train tour to explore the nearby area. The place is dynamic with lots of hustle bustle of the tourists and locals. The evening sunsets and the night illuminations and combined with festive fireworks make this place truly romantic and mesmerizing. A must to visit when you are in France.

Citadelle d'Entrevaux is a captivating historical gem! The medieval fortress offers breathtaking views, intriguing architecture, and a step back in time. A must-visit for history enthusiasts, surrounded by stunning landscapes.
Thierry Scheer — Google review
I loved seeing the old citadel le and imagining how difficult it must have to live there. Cost 3€ for adults. The views from the top down the valley were amazing.
Cath Roberts — Google review
Very romantic place, tho you ha e to pay for the entrance, where no stroller could get through. Shame, but otherwise worth the visit.
Tamás Júlia — Google review
Quaint medieval town - tough climb up to the citadel but its worth it for the panoramic views of the town and the surrounding area.
Samuel Hardy — Google review
A stiff walk from the town is very worthwhile . This fortress, typical of Vauban, is definitely a must visit when in Provence. The history dates from 1690 when it was built to the beginning of the twentieth century when it was used in WW1 to house German POWs. The views are also exceptional and worth the climb just for the scenery.
Ian Morton — Google review
As others wrote, the pay-as-you go gate is basically a lottery ticket. You might get in or not. Today I have probably drawn a blank/ contributed 3€ to conservation efforts. I’m not a gate engineer but this should be fixable. Otherwise the views from the photos of the ones that made it in looked fantastic.
Christian — Google review
A pleasant hike and view. But beware the pay-as-you-go gate, which doesn’t always function properly and may accept your €3 without opening. The tourist office at the city gate will not give you a refund. This should change.

Illuminated caverns filled with intricate stalagmites & stalactites, plus a bistro & guided tours.
Blown away! This was my first experience in a cave but it was incredible. The history behind it was fascinating. The tour guide Tom was super friendly and patient. Highly recommend.
Byron Sheardown — Google review
A 40 minute guided visit inside in this not so big grotte/cave for the family. Beautiful stalactites that were created as years passes by. Just be careful when going down as to not fall as the path can be slippery. I wouldnt recommend going down with handicap young kids that have trouble walking. The entrance fee was reasonable.
Joan Dulera-Delmas — Google review
Highly recommend!
The tour is great for all ages with beautiful geological formations and lots of interesting facts about the caves. Definitely worth a visit.
The staff spoke perfect English and were extremely knowledgeable. And super nice!
Ingrid Zar — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of exploring the depths of Grotte de Saint Cézaire, an enchanting natural wonder tucked away in the Domaine de la Grotte Saint Cézaire. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped by an aura of ancient mystery and natural beauty.
Our guided tour was not only engaging but also fun and educational. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, weaving stories of the cave's history, its geology, and the unique features of the intricate stalactite and stalagmite formations, holding us spellbound throughout the journey. Their enthusiasm for the cavern's secrets truly elevated the experience.
Despite the deep, cool, and sometimes narrow passages, the tour was accessible and enjoyable for all ages. Whether you're a seasoned spelunker or new to caving, Grotte de Saint Cézaire offers a fun, captivating experience that unites adventure and learning.
In conclusion, a visit to Grotte de Saint Cézaire is more than just a tour; it's an immersive journey through time, encapsulating millions of years of natural history in a breathtaking, hour-long exploration. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an intriguing and enjoyable activity in the region. Don't forget to bring a light jacket – it's cooler underground!
Martin Ålgren — Google review
Beautiful jewel of an afternoon out. I would suggest trainers for this 40 minute exploration of a grotto to discover a secret underground world. The tour is about 40 minutes and is in groups of around 10. The history of the formations is fascinating and the kids loved it. The Nex door there is an accrobranche zip line facility which the kids would like, but it was raining on our visit. Drive up to St Cezaire is beautiful also and there is free parking on site. Well worth a visit.
Andrew Denison — Google review
We really enjoyed the tour and learned. 9€ per adult is fair.
Azzam ALKHALIFAH — Google review
This was a really nice day out. The grotte was fascinating and enthralled a 4and 6 year old, mainly because of the fantastic young man who was our guide. Tyrolean for older kids, archery, mini golf, bouncy castle and snacks, all done very nicely nestling in the countryside. This was a nice thing to do, not a rip off, nice selection of souvenirs too.
Deborah Cortey — Google review
Visited this grotte multiple times. It's a guided tour and better to reserve tickets online. So you know the time you can enter. Else you need to buy tickets for the next entrance and wait for may be 15-20 min.
There is a restaurant nearby and a food truck. There is a good big area for accrobranche for kids and adults. So you can plan atleast half a day here after the visit. Nice and shady place outside the cave as well. Will recommend
Prashant B — Google review
We visited on a Sunday in February and it was a great time to go. Only a handful of people were on the French/English tour. The guide was approx 45 mins while we winded through the cave passages. It was well done, lots of interesting information along the way. Be careful as it can get slippery and there are some low parts that you need to crouch down. Not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. 15 degrees no matter what season. A lovely shop at the entrance to purchase souvenirs. Well worth a visit especially for children, it was such a great experience!
Charlene Elliott — Google review
Small but outstanding formations. Our guide Derek was outstanding. You could tell he loved the underground world. He pointed out interesting features that would have gone unoticed.
Bill Davey — Google review
Slightly off the beaten track, these caves are great for a family outing. With a great guide in French & English, visitors are taken down the grotto through easy-to-walk steps until a depth of 40m is reached. Temperature is a constant 15C so some might want to bring a light sweater.
For sure worth a visit if you're in this part of Provence.

We took 30 min to drive here from Saint Maxime and it was totally worth it! Clean sandy beach, quite a long walk in the water to get at least 2m depth, but the water is very clear. Some rental options along the beach. The food is crazy overpriced though, best place for lunch would be walking to the Le Ville cafe nearby

Beautiful beach close to Saint Tropez, come here early to get a parking spot directly at tje beach (approx. 14€ per day), free sandspots without beds, sunbeds only in one of the expensive clubs with prior reservation (usually nothing available without booking)
Markus Lesser — Google review
Very nice beach with beautiful view. Not too crowded. You can rent a sunbeds and bikes there. A few cafeterias and some best clubs around.
Toilet, shower and changing room acailable to public behind the cafeteria. Cheap parking nearby (€4.50 per day).
If only the sand was nicer and there were less pebbles. It was hard to get in the water without protective shoes. It can get windy there and then the waves are too high and make it impossible to enjoy water which becomes very messy. There is a deep steep carved by waves.

It is a small charming church on the top of the Roc mountain in the heart of Castallon village. From the first sight it seems like the mountain is too steep to climb, but indeed there are two not difficult at all trails, leading to the church and the panoramic viewpoint over the village.
I took the Chemin du Croix (Christ Path) from the village center. To come back if you need to take another path, take right side on the crossing, it will lead you through the splendid view over the Notre Dame du Roc and the Old Tower.
There is no accessible way to the church though, only hiking one.
Inside of the church one will find lots of gratitudes from 18th century and till nowadays. Very touching.

An amazing place. If you are ever close to Castellane an can set aside at least one day the town is worth a visit. If you are fit enough, capable of walking at least 2 miles with a steep gradient most of the way the walk up the Chemin du Roc to the Chapelle Notre Dame du Roc has some amazing views in all directions, once at the top the views are awesome. To top it all is a beautiful chapel perched atop the rock. Very much worth the effort.

It’s definitely a must see place if you are in Provence. This is the beautiful raw nature that leaves you in awe. Highly recommend renting a kayak or catamaran, the prices are reasonable. The place is worth enjoying it, admiring, taking photos, riding a boat and swimming in the river. But to me it’s not really the place where you can relax on the shore due to the lack of facilities. And this is ok, as this place is what you want to admire. During the high season I suggest coming early morning, around 09.00 or max 10.00

I was surprised to see that the color of the water in real life wasn’t as blue as they looked in the photos. It could’ve been because it was cloudy on the day we went. But the water was very refreshing to swim in and it was a calm day without too many boats in the end of June.

Abbaye du Thoronet, one of the 'The Sisters' trio of Provencal Cistercian abbeys, was built between 1160 and 1190 as a stone monastery with an original cellar where wine and olive oil were made. The ultra-austere style of architecture includes pure proportions, perfectly dressed stone, and a subtle interplay of light and shadow on unadorned but never severe geometry.
Worth the visit, PLEASE pay the £3 for the audio tour device because it makes such a difference and makes this amazing abbey woth the visit. Its 911 years old! There is am actor also voicing the part of an abbot and what he saw in his day, it made the visit come alive.

We went here on the recommendation of a family member and were not disappointed. What a fantastic abbey that is still in it's original condition. You can take a 1 hour guided tour or take the map and tour on your own. If you would like a guided tour in a different language than French, make sure you call ahead and request the language you would like for your tour. The atmosphere here was very peaceful. Wonderful visit !
Sellers were attentive, kind and happy to help you. The entrance is 8€ for adults but it's free for those under 18 years old. (Excellent for a family)
Provides services such as guided tours. Visit take an average of 1 hour. Also provide book about French Historic Monuments, Bible, and so on in their shop at the entrance of the building.
Have a parking lot with a small food seller. Prices are ok which is nice when you have kids and/or babies.
I recommend it to everyone !

I’ve seen old churches and ruins of really old one. But this 10th century stucture was really amazing! Inside the time stood still, as is typical to these former holy places but it still had that shroud of sadness lingering all over the place.
Getting here was really difficult. Our “TomTom” navigator was so lost and first tried to guide us through very narrow cart parths. Luckily we had that small car and fit that path quite well, thank you. But we decided to turn it off and use the main roads and logic. Found the parking lot 10 minutes later via different route.

Such an inspiring abbaye in the middle of Provence. A big plus for architects to visit, there is some contemporary design pieces.
The olive tress garden is amazing along with the inner church.
Plage de l'Estagnol is a charming sandy cove surrounded by a pine forest, offering clear and warm Mediterranean waters. It's located just 20 minutes from Bormes-les-Mimosas and features two restaurants, picnic tables, and nearby parking under the shade of pine trees. The beach gradually slopes into the sea, making it ideal for families with children. Visitors can also explore the area's natural beauty by trekking or cycling through the nearby vineyards and forests.
At just 20 mins drive from Bormes-les-Mimosas, la plage de l’Estagnol is a quaint little sand beach, with clear and wonderful warm waters, beautiful views and settings in a well preserved Mediterranean bay. It has a nearby parking that costs 11 € where you can park your car under beautiful pine trees. There are two restaurants offering a good choice of refreshments and foods. Highly recommended for families with kids. Make sure to get there early as it gets busy very quickly.

Great beach, packed in like sardines but it was August. Lush views of the yachts. €12 is a bit expensive when arriving at two o'clock.

Personal favourite. Calm hidden gem with 2 lovely restaurants that offer reasonable prices. Great for tanning and shallow waters. No screaming kids. 10 euro per car entry. You are able to picnic in the forest so do bring your picnic table and chairs.

Great sandy beach, with 2 nice restaurants and some Picnic tables. It costs 12 euros to reach it with the car. We went in the first week of July and didn't find it extremely busy and definitely not too loud. Our favorite beach from the neighborhood. Perfect for swimming!

10€ is not so expensive to park, yes the price is high at the restaurant but it’s understandably because staff should have salary and it’s a short time for this kind of business.
Over the drinks and the food 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Manmade lake with several villages around the shoreline offering dining, boat rentals & beaches.
Beautiful lake leading into Gordon Verge. We rented a pedal boat for an hour and swam in the cool water. Finding a boat was easy on a Monday morning but you probably want to get here first thing in the morning on the weekends.

The Lake of Sainte-Croix offers a picturesque setting, especially if you're keen on paddling around the lake and exploring the canyons. For those interested in such activities, I recommend heading directly to Pont du Galetas. This area provides convenient parking spaces and options for renting boats and kayaks. The proximity to lavender fields adds to the beauty of the surroundings, making it a delightful destination for nature enthusiasts.

40 Euro for two hours pedalling. The place is like an open air swimming pool, really good vibes. If you are passing by, stop for it. It is really worth it. 2-3 hours stay is a must to enjoy the canyon and the lake. Calculate ~30-60min waiting time to be able to enter to the lake with a boat. have fun!

One of the best places in Europe , eventhough it was raining when we went so that we couldn’t do the boat ride/kayak or we couldn’t swim, but it worth even to visit and have that idyllic views of the lake. It is a huge lake in the Alps of Haute Provence region, known for its boat sailing, kayaking, pets and kids friendly beaches with fabulous view over the lake from the village and over the village from the lake.
I took a trail around and across the village and was delighted with the scenery around, but I didn’t take any boat nor kayak trip, that are highly recommended though because if the peaceful waters and stunning view.
There is an easy access to the lake itself, and to the main village streets.
One can find a camping car lot and camping itself right near the entrance to the village, fully equipped with playgrounds and barbecue places. The place is full with people though everywhere: in the water and camping.
The Museum of Prehistory of the Gorges du Verdon, designed by architect Norman Foster, houses impressive archaeological artifacts and prehistoric exhibits that provide visitors with an in-depth understanding of the surrounding nature reserve. It is a must-visit destination for those interested in the Verdon canyon area. The permanent exhibit is elegantly laid out and highly recommended to explore with headphones available in several languages at no extra cost. This museum is an excellent educational experience for both children and adults alike.
Great museum.. well with the visit
Karen Loizou — Google review
It is a nice museum in a nice building but we just couldn’t believe that all information was only in French. They even didn’t have printed materials in foreign languges. We used an English audio guide but it was incomplete. The multimedia presentation could use subtitles (even in French).
And cherry on top was an arrogant commentary of a receptionist that we could learn there some French. Just wow.
Petra Kejklíčková — Google review
Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed by this museum. The building is good and there a few good features, but overall, there was too much text and some artifacts but little to keep children and adults alike captivated.
Even if the content itself is very interesting and detailed, an overhaul of the main exhibit would be welcome to better match today's expectations for a museum.
As a side note, please be aware that all text is in French only.
Also, the "prehistoric village" nearby is quite nice.

Excellent museum. My kids and I loved this place and I will have to return to take in all of the permanent exhibit. The layout of the permanent exhibit is elegant. The Mount Faron cable car takes visitors to a 584 metre summit for breathtaking city and riviera views. The ride is easy to take, with an easy transport up the mountain. There is a restaurant on the summit where you can enjoy a good meal and stunning panoramic views of Toulon and the Mediterranean Sea.
It takes you to the mountain top by 8 euros which is quite cheap and the view is great as well as the journey. However to reach the cable car it might be tale 20 to 30mins walking and clmbing from the main station of Toulon. Also, there might be a queue, so set aside atleast around 2 hours for the total trip.
Roshni Chakraborty — Google review
The experience was fairly enjoyable, the wait to get on was less then 20 minutes and it really was a great way to see the mountain rather then driving up. The experience doesn’t cost that much and the mountain it self is great for photos. Would highly recommend to any tourists visiting Toulon

Fantastic cable ride leading to spectacular views and a free museum at the summit which was very informative. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. All in all it was worth twice the 8.50 we paid. Brilliant value.

You can get to the cable car station by bus line 40. The price for the return ticket is €8.5 and it is definitely worth the price. The frequency depending on the number of passengers, as if there are few, they are waiting a little bit. The journey takes around 5-10 mintues but the view is spectacular, the cabin also has glass floor. Be aware that there is a 30 minute lunch break between 13.00-13:30.

Amazing views of the area but we had to wait 45 minutes to go back down at the very end of the day and ended up late for dinner. Perhaps better to drive up instead to enjoy the top of Mont Faron. We happened to be there on the 15th of August so we got to watch part of the air show from up top as per the pictures.

Catholic basilica built from 13th-16th centuries, with historic organs & relics of Mary Magdalene.
Beautiful church - well preserved and taken care of. It is worth visiting not only for religious people but also for someone with a little bit sense of esthetics. Everything was good ,but online it says that you not supposed to use bikini but on site is totally different :) you should wear the bikini and it's not allowed to go to the water with short even to look after your kids . I would be more happy if there was some animation show made for children but there wasn't :( Everything else was good :) children had fun , food good ,ice creams and pancakes. Lovely animals and friendly staff . They are toilets there ,place where you can seat and eat your lunch ,but not any changing rooms or locker to put your bag for safety. You can take the pushchair for the baby but it's not so easy to drive it there ;)

An affordable way to buy 3 hours of peace, while kids enjoy and release all their energy, you can have some time for yourself. My last visit here was 7 years ago. They improved some parts with new things while other things remained the same. The woman at the reception as you arrive is welcoming and nice, while the girl and the guy at the food stand selling crepe and drinks could have been more welcoming, less frowning and perhaps get better training from fellow people from the service industry.
Lovely place for the summer, a short stop for the young kids. One round for the summer is enough, a second round would be boring already.
Bring your own towel, some cold drinks, a face spray to cool off.
Went this August 2022 with 3 kids (12, 10 and 8 years old).

Small park/farm for families. Kids love it. Farm animals are beautiful and seem healthy. It's now possible to buy family meals on site . The park seems small but it's actually larger than it looks and can easily keeps kids busy for 3-4 hrs. Owners and employees are nice and helpfull, but there are not many of them. Recommended for families with young kids (from 2 to 12) to spend a day close to farm animals with a funny and simple playground, we will surely return.

A bit Too expensive for what it is. Quality of attractions, hygiene, on the low side. I stay 30mins and left
Family-friendly, Wild West theme park, including adventure rides, plus cowboy & Indian stunt shows.
Great parc for children and parents. We spent very nice time. We arrived at 10 and everyone made the same. Best time was at 12 and after. Be careful with TequilAbeille it rly makes you feel dizzy. Ah and the cowboy show The Vengeance is not rly good for little children. Real wild wild west. The Circus was great and new show in the Saloon was awesome. Come at least 10 mins before to find a place to seat

We went there on a Friday in July. There was basically no need to wait for all the facilities. There were performances more or less every two hours. The actors and actresses were very very professional, and the attitude of all the staffs were very nice even when the kids kept asking for playing the same game repeatedly. Children under one meter are free, and there are many items to play. Very good experience! Great for little ones.

Brilliant place for kids! We are a 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 family down here on vacation/holiday and came for a day of non-beach activity. Stayed the entire day and had a blast. Great value! The whole place had a perfect balance of having lovely staff and being well organized but without a corporate feel or sense of being robbed at every opportunity. Free parking was a good start and easy quick on entrance ticket purchase. Queues were none existent or light (we visited in peak of summer season) and plenty of places to buy a quick or proper restraunt lunch. Also plenty of benches in the shade for a packed lunch (very impressed with this as the places to sit in the shade with your own food were plentiful - something you dont see in US/UK - saw one guy with a full cool box! - not to crowded for a stroller or even a litte wagon). Clean WCs had drinking water fountains outside that you could actually get a decent bottle under! This and the Splash Park area were fantastic to stay hydrated and cool so wear or bring a bathing suit in the bag 😎

It was an excellent day in OK Corral and the great way to end our summer vacation. We visited during the peak season and the hottest week in summer but we enjoyed the rides without waiting too long it is because the rides are well varied for different ages and height. My son who is 4 years old and 1m13 enjoyed almost all the major attractions. There are also great rides for the little ones. The best part is they have a water attraction so we put on our swimsuits and it's an instant relief from the strong summer heat. It helped a lot to enjoy the park in the afternoon refreshed by this water attraction. The employee also makes sure that you take a good soak before entering for sanitary purposes. The park is clean as we see the staff go around and check the cleanliness of the park. Sad for disrespectful people who throws their cigarette butts everywhere. Great spectacle also showing cowboys and indians - which showed somehow the truth of western story. Good job!

Had a great day at OK Corral. We took a family with children aged from 6 to 16 and there was enough to satisfy both age groups. The park was extremely well-maintained. Despite being busy, it didn't feel over- crowded and we didn't have to wait long for any ride. Despite not speaking French, we enjoyed a couple of the shows. Highly recommended for a family day out.

Wild west theme park with tons of performances. Have you seen a ride on a bison or Zorro drama while having a lunch? If not, definitely must visit.
The park itself consists of different kind of attractions. The aqua park area is for a small kids up to 8 only (tiny facilities).
Notes:
* there is no priority ticket
* most of the attractions are not comfortable for a tall people
* for adults there is not enough attractions
* all performances are in french (action is a small part of it), there is no translation even on the paper.
In general we’ve enjoyed the time being there.

Route départementale 8, 13780 Cuges-les-Pins, France
The Provençal Colorado is a former ochre quarry with striking red and orange landscapes, reminiscent of Colorado. The area's mineral riches are on full display, with canyons, valleys, hills and sculptural rock formations such as the Fairy Chimney. This path of ochre sands offers a more rugged experience compared to Roussillon, with fewer amenities and longer tracks that resemble light hiking.
Such a gem in France. I recommende to visit this place in spring winter or autumn. It might be very hot during summer and there are no shade on the hiking/walking tracks. You can take a picnic and spend some time in the Park. There are tables and benches everywhere . A hat and sunscreen is à must. The whole visit is about 2hr.

This path of ochre sands is bit more wild than the one in Roussillon, has less amenities. The longer track resembles light hiking, rather than walk in the park as in Roussillon.

Beautiful canyon walking area. We bought tickets in advance for the 11h slot. Was afraid it was going to be crowded, but was pleasantly surprised. There's also some picnic tables in the parking lot so you can have lunch there.

This was gorgeous! The place didn’t steal its name, it really does look like you are in Colorado. The great heights, the beautiful colours. There are two trails, the long route is 1h45min and the short route is 35min. Today was super hot so we decided to go for the short one, although I reckon under cooler weather conditions we would have picked the long one. It’s amazing, I did not suspect to find such a place in France and I can’t help wonder why this place together with the Sentier des Ocres in Roussillon are not more popular around France and the world.

Nice place to visit, the colors of vegetals / minerals of the canyon are bluffing.
The parking is really big and easy to enter in.
Planning some refreshments is a good idea as the only place near the entrance offering drinks, food and restroom is quite expensive for the goods proposed and the big loop is quite long to make (and hot of course during summer time).

The picnic benches at the car park were amazing!
I felt like in American movie all the time!

A beautiful place to explore with 2 marked paths. It really feels as though you're in a desert landscape. Parking costs 5€ per car for the day. There are also a couple of places where you can buy a drink and a snack.

I have trouble with long walks, especially with inclines, so this trek was somewhat difficult for me. However, by taking it slowly, I was able to make it to the actual site of the ochre hills. Have to say it was worth the hike. Thankfully it was sunny but cool. It's quite an unusual sight ; very photogenic.

Amazing landscape, great hiking trails, of varying lengths, plenty of vantage points for photos. Small Cafe and WC on site.

Entrance point to the so-called Colorado Canyon. It has all required facilities, cafeteria, water and chill place in the shadow to have a rest after the exciting walk via the Colorado. There is a paid parking, do not try to find any free one, because the parking fee contains 6 tickets to visit the Colorado. Plan around 3 hours to visit this place.

The Hôtel de Caumont is an 18th-century art center housed inside the Mazarin quarters grandest hotel particulier. It houses three quality exhibitions each year, as well as concerts and other events. The building itself is a standout star of the show, with its palatial rooms stuffed full of antiques and objets dart attesting to the opulence of its aristocratic past.
Went to the coffee shop. It is well worth a stop! I had a salmon salad for lunch and a house chocolate cake and coffee for dessert. Delicious!
Also the building is fantastic. High walls and ceilings and classic furniture. Good place to estay away from the noisy streets, relax and enjoy good food

The museum hosts lots of different exhibitions throughout the year. I visited the one dedicated to Mucha and his artworks. I was really impressed. The building itself is unique. There you can find a tea salon decorated with old furniture. The facility of the museum is modern. Your visit may be accompanied with an audioguide. I recommend buying tickets in advance.

Not only a beautiful museum but also an amazing cafe and a must visit. It is beautiful inside and you must go outside to see the manicured gardens. The interior was well appointed with beautiful furniture and colours to match. The menu is varied, from French cuisine to an Asian inspired salad. Today I had a coke zero and the Plat de jour, Risotto with fois gros and perfectly cooked duck for 22€. The wine and drinks list was extensive and they serve local Rose. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and very attentive. The service was quick even during the peak lunch time rush.

Located just south of Cour Mirabeau, the Hotel de Caumont is actually a museum (don't be confused by the preface "hotel" which just means home). In this case, the home was owned by an aristocratic family in pre-revolutionary France and the owners have an interesting history interconnected with European royalty.
The building is beautifully restored as are the surrounding grounds and the small garden. Inside, the first two rooms (music room and bedroom) are equally exquisite. But that is all there is to see of that ornately decorated period.
Following those rooms was an exhibit on a totally tangentially related artist called Yves Klein who was a post-modern "blue" artist. Very inconsistent with the setting.
For the cost of 14.50 Euro per visitor I do not think it is worth it...or at least if you are not as interested in Yves Klein. We would have loved to have seen more of the beautifully restored 18th century rooms instead.

Beautiful place, but the visit depends a lot on the current exhibition. They have a lovely cafe, with rich decoration and different wallpapers for each room. Oh and such a beautiful little garden! I do think the entry is a bit expensive, 14 euros per person.

A tree-lined boulevard in Aix, Cours Mirabeau is celebrated for its restaurants and fountains. It's ideally situated to enjoy the works of Paul Cezannes, as his parents worked on the street in a former hat shop. The wide thoroughfare is popular with shoppers and tourists alike, who can take a stroll to imagine what it was like to walk the same streets as Cezanne himself.
Went there for a walk and found the local market in the area, which closes around 2 pm. Its a changed location when there are stalls. Many places and streets to explore nearby

Beautiful street but on our visit, our group bought little but all were ready! Did not find it reminiscent of Paris fashion district however it is beautiful and found a few interesting items.
Richard J Haberstroh (Rick Haberstroh) — Google review
Cours Mirabeau is miraculously beautiful with maple trees on either sides keeping shades while you traverse from king Réné’s statue until the rotonde fountain.
Along with king’s statue fountain, there are two other fountain on two crossings on the cours Mirabeau. One is the thermal stream and other one is 9 fountains. The water still comes from Mont St Victoire.
Cours Mirabeau is the most important place of Aix. With lots of stone benches, restaurants, cinema halls, utility shops and street performer; this corridor is an experience in itself.

This is the Aix version of Times Square. Though picturesque, nothing notable lives on the street. The restaurants all looked middling, the shops chains.
The Saturday market was a disappointment as it largely sold cheap clothing. I did hope for more local goods and antiques.

Such a disappointment. Whilst a beautiful place which does come to life when a morning or evening market is around, the place has lost its shine. What was once a stand out street just a few years ago full of authentic Provençal restaus and cafes is now almost entirely faceless and personality-less pizzerias. And sadly not the type you find in Italy! Sub par food, over the odds prices, and poor service

I have lived in this city for 16 years, lovely city and rich in history and culture.
The Musée du Vieil-Aix is a museum in the south of France that contains period furnishings, paintings, puppets and other folk art. It is one of Aix' great charms, as it offers stunning views of its historical centre while also allowing visitors to explore different aspects of its culture.

It is a great castle, with impressive rooms and chambers that make you feel in that time period (for example, the kitchen makes you think of being from a noble family in the Medieval Period). And it has too extraordinary views.

It’s a cultural treasure! If you are a fan of different architectural styles or you’d like to see objects from all parts of the world (South America, Middle East, Eastern Europe, etc.) you will be impressed. The castle is built with various techniques and styles. Inside there are lots of beautiful decorations and artefacts from all over the world. You can also find some cinders here and photo exhibitions. Strongly recommended as the price is not so high.

Loumarin is everything you expect from a Provençal medieval town. Big win I’m my book is the wine cave at the bottom. Absolutely recommend a wine tasting there.
As far as the château is concerned- I assume Americans would love it as the oldest thing they have is about 80 years old.

It’s a very lovely, old house built over the centuries starting in the 1400’s. It was a nice self guided tour that took me about 1 hour to complete. I went fast though. Many people were going slowly. I appreciate the French sensibility of a relaxed atmosphere without too much fuss and organization. It was nice.
I am a amateur woodworker so I enjoyed some of the classic pieces on display at the Chateau.

We didn’t have time to visit the inside, but even taking a walk around the exterior is a magical moment. Beautiful gardens and if you’re lucky enough to visit in the summer, cicadas chirping everywhere ! Next time we will certainly go for a wine tasting visit in the cellars !

Beautiful chateau with a couple of rooms decorated in old style. It is a 30 minute tour, but one can stay for a longer time and analyze all the details, (titles of books in the library, paintings, decoration on furniture etc.). Fish pond on the entrance, terasse with the view. Entrance 7.5 Euros. Worth.
Music room. Two were practicing Poulenc Sonata for Piano and Cello.
Adequate piece of music.
Lovely.

Beautiful and very well maintained château.
There is no guidance, you just receive a flyer at the entrance and well, it’s up to you. There is no really an order to visit, the distribution is a bit disorganized, you don’t where to start.
There are lots of well maintained books from hundred years ago, the chambers also.
There is a salle in which you can watch the history of the château.
There are also many expositions from artists that are based in Aix-en-Provence, supporting local and talented artists is amazing.
You can finish your own tour in 1 hour.
The Calanques National Park preserves stunning beauty and harboring extraordinary plant and animal life, including 900 different species of plants. The park covers 85km of land, with the majority in the marine area, and includes stunning limestone rock walls with fjord-like coves filled with saltwater in mesmerizing turquoise hues. Outdoor activities such as swimming, kayaking, rock climbing, and hiking are available for those who visit.
Simply put, this park was amazing! Was a bit hesitant visiting given the amount of National Parks that are in the US but this was well worth it. Hiking down to the beach was both semi challenging and rewarding. It was releasing to float in the water and then lay on the warm rocks soaking up the sun and views.

If one has to imagine how the heaven looks like, then they should visit Les Calanques. It’s nothing less heavenly.
Picturesque beaches, colourful waters, numerous possibilities of activities one can do and it feels like that’s the real life to live for.
The best place for scuba, swim and for sunbathing. Hiking, kayaking or any activities related to water and mountainside can be performed.
The colour of water varies because of Mediterranean specific sea plants. They are well preserved and that’s what make this place worth visiting.
One can reach there by hiking or by taking a ferry from Marseille vieux port.
Just to visit all the calanques beaches one can take integral tour of the calanques by ferry which will Cost you around 32€ per person for the duration of 3h15.
Don’t forget to take sunglasses and a cap because of the sun. Best time to visit in April.

Argh. The Calanques were beautiful and d’en Vau beach was wonderful swimming. D’en Vau beach was mobbed by instagrammers, kayakers, climbers and even has boats bringing tourists by sea. It did ruin it quite a bit. But what ruined the visit the most was that our car was smashed into while we left it in the car park. When we came back from our hike to d’en vau all the cars in the car park had the back windows smashed. The local police weren’t remotely surprised. Our air bnb host shrugged and said ‘well it’s Marseille’. The police report was a nightmare. They didn’t speak a word of English and had no official translation service. It’s not really worth it for all that stress

The Parc National des Calanques in Marseille is stunning, but my visit was marred by road closures that made access difficult. Views were still breathtaking, but plan ahead for any closures.

Great park with amazing views. The beginning of the hike is boring and not as picturesque but after 20 minutes you have a choice of which side to go to and it starts being much more picturesque! The hike to Margiou beach is medium difficulty with one particular difficult moment when you have to hold by the chains to climb up/down. Very well worth it! You need around 2.5 hours for the hike to Margiou beach, a short stay there and way back. For the hikes to two destinations I would probably leave 4+ hours. You don’t need too much water with you (except for very hot weather) since the hike is not too exhausting but some beverage and snacks is a plus to make the experience more enjoyable!

Paradise on earth....but very dangerous hiking trails if you underestimate the danger. The hiking is also much longer than said on the internet. To go from Port Miou to En vau it is 3 hours and not 1h30. There are three ways to get to En vau. The easiest and the one I would advise if you have children younger then 15 is the one that starts at the route the gineste. The hardest route is the " panoramic route". If you go for the first time, stay close to people that already know the trail. It is way too easy to get lost. And when you get lost you sometimes will have to take some very dangerous decisions to get back on track. I repeat do not underestimate the danger. I am an adventurous man, athletic and not afraid of anything...but I am amazed that there aren't any dead tourists every summer..... Take a lot of water with you. Go as early as you possibly can. Don't leave the beach too late because if you leave at 8 in the evening you won't get out in time before dark. Install the application " mes calanques"... An amazing app. Stay safe. And don't smoke there nor on the beaches... They will give you fines that will hurt your wallet. They had a lot of forest fires.. and clean up behind you. And when you leave the beach and you see some filth from someone that didn't, then be kind and take it with you. By the way...the water of calanques d'en vau is extremely cold. Some advise: when you arrive at the beach find yourself a spot on the left side of the beach because that way you'll have 90 minutes of sun more then the people on the right side of the beach. Best advice : rent a kayak. You'll be there in 1 hour. Stay safe.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Its a quite the steep journey however it is worth it once you reach the top. I can not describe just how beautiful and stunning it is when you are there. The view of the city from here is just fantastic. To reach here, I’d suggest to have a walk from vieux port. It’ll be bit of a hiking like and then stairs however it worth because as one climbs up, the view on their back keeps growing into something superb.
Though, there are buses and touristic train available to reach there. You can also take your own car. There’s a parking for them.

Being located in a very high place, you can have an amazing view over all of Marseille. The church is very beautiful and I would recommend to go there to see the sunset. The church does close around 6pm, but then you can still go down the stairs and watch the sunset there.
People told us is wasn't worth walking up there because it took them around 1h climbing and they had to walk on the road not even a nice path, we took the bus 60 from the port which costs 2€ and it takes around 15min. To walk down, we did go by walking because it was only 23min and we didn't have to climb.

Absolutely stunning basilica - and a must-see in Marseille.
I first visited on the Saturday, but because of high winds the entrance to the basilica was closed. I was told I could enter via the crypt, but there was a mass happening and nobody was allowed to enter either the crypt or the basilica.
Luckily I was able to return on Monday (thought I’d give Sunday a miss as there was only a half hour window to visit at 9am due to masses being held throughout the day). I’m so glad I had the time to come back, as the basilica is absolutely stunning. The views from outside are pretty gorgeous too.
Entrance is free, but I’d recommend paying 1€ for the pamphlet at reception - which points out some interesting facts and items to view.
Also, the walk up is hard going - even for the fittest of walkers. I’ve climbed Ben Nevis, so I know what I’m talking about! If the weather is cool then go for it, but when it’s hot…no thanks! You can get the No.60 bus from Vieux-Port (I’d recommend getting on there as the bus does get packed pretty quickly). The journey takes around 10-15 minutes by bus and drops you off directly outside the basilica. It costs 2€, and if by chance you can’t get in because of high winds (or mass) it covers the cost of the trip back down - as long as it’s within an hour of purchase.

Contrary to what visitors might think, Notre Dame de la Garde is not a cathedral but a basilica. Really easy to get to by bus and worth seeing - inside and outside. The view is simply stunning. Pretty cool little place. We walked up from the port, which was quite a walk, but pretty cool to see the city that way. Safe area to walk around in. The view from there was unique and made it a great stop. The boats everywhere in the church was also really unique and interesting. I definitely wouldn’t pay a tour guide if any kind and was glad that admission was free. They charge you to use the restrooms, which was wild to me but maybe that’s normal in this area.

Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde is a lavish 19th-century icon that's visible from across Marseille. It sits on the remains of a 12th-century chapel and a 16th-century fort. The structure has been used as both a place of worship and a part of the city's defences. Today, locals come to the basilica to pray for or give thanks for safe journeys and recovery from illness.
The MuCEM is a state-of-the-art museum dedicated to the exploration of Mediterranean and European cultures and civilizations. It is located on a reclaimed land in the heart of Marseille, France, and contains an eclectic range of artworks, artefacts, and photographs documenting different aspects of the region's culture. The building was designed by Algerian-born architect Rudy Ricciotti and is connected to Fort de Saint-Jean through two cantilever footbridges.
The museum offers a free entrance of the yard, bridge and the outside but if you want to take a tour inside to see the exhibitions then you need to pay entry fees. Keep in my that in order to enter you need to have a sanitary pass/ green pass. The outside part of the museum is amazing the first building is very modern with great photography spots and is connected with a bridge to another part that looks more of an old heritage building. The place is worth the visit is very beautiful and one of the must see in Marseille

Really Great museum with a lot of interesting and different exhibits. The curation is quite different to most museums I have visited and I found the approach very engaging. The architecture and the buildings themselves are also well worth seeing. Tickets are reasonable for the experience. Bear in mind you don't need to buy a ticket to just visit and see the buildings and really through the whole complex.

Very interesting and unusual building. It’s free to discover, many entrances and exits. The exhibition are changing and very interesting. Most of the exhibition explanations are available in French and in English. It’s located at a wonderful spot, close to the harbour and easy to access.

My pictures dates back a bit but only because I had completely forgotten to post my review when I had initially visited the place!
It’s a very nice and lovely museum! It doesn’t seem that big but once inside, you have so many things to view and so many expositions to go through! I have learned a lot of very interesting and useful things during my visit here! As someone who loves other people’s cultures and learning about them, this is a perfect museum for it!
It’s also a great place to bring younger kids as they have a lot of interactive activities for them and also have little programs made for them! I absolutely loved this place and will most definitely visit it once again if I ever get the chance! Definitely recommend!

What a fantastic museum... much more than a museum: an architectural masterpiece, a meeting place, a botanical garden, a playground...is it not enough? No, not enough in one day, that's for sure!

Its very nice! It was surprisingly free for almost the entire thing! It has a cool food area and an area to go beside the water!
There are some secret doors and tunnels too to explore! And the views are really nice!

Exquisite museum! You can view certain areas entirely for free and on the roof there is a restaurant as well as a lounge area that has plenty of space and a picturesque view of the port and downwind. There is also the bridge that you can walk across to get to the garden. 10/10 LOVE!!

The museum has a lovely architecture and viewpoints to Marseille and the sea. As we haven’t visited the exhibition for self I just can review these points. The roof is provided with several little gardens. A bridge brings you to the neighbor building with a fancy structure. This whole part is free of charge. Just recommendable.

This was a very different place than I imagined, and while I enjoyed it, I can see that the experience isn't for everyone. This is a combination of history and art that I haven't seen before.
Coming from the port area, you will walk through the restored old fort and learn about the history of it as well as Marseille through interesting short videos and audio guide you can listen to on your phone. You will walk through little gardens highlighting important plants, both native and imported. In contrast, you will then walk across a high bridge into a huge, modern building that houses modern art as well as a informative look at the history of the Mediterranean through art, artifacts, maps, and more, again with audio guide accessible by phone.
The juxtaposition of all these contrasts -- modern vs ancient, black steel vs stone, high tech displays in tiny rooms in the fort -- seemed odd at first. However, then I realized it is just like the Mediterranean itself: a mix of old vs new in layer upon layer that makes European cities charming and fascinating, at least to this American.
If you go, realize that there is not a clear path through (likely intentionally). You have to wander and explore and discover, which we enjoyed.
We spent four hours there, and didn't feel like we saw everything. If you don't speak French, you will still have a good experience as most of the audio content and many signs are in English. If you also have the Google Translate app on your phone and use it to translate the French-only signs, you will have a better experience.
There is a cafe with sandwiches and salads on the bottom floor, prices about 10€. The top-floor outdoor cafe has some dishes for about 15€, and the formal restaurant ranged from 20-50€. There are lots of WCs, but not a lot of seating.
On the first Sunday of each month, entry is free!
On one hand, I wish there had been more about history, and less art. On the other, I couldn't have absorbed much more in one day. Net, I enjoyed it and am glad I did it, but don't think I would do it a second time unless the content changed.

Expositions extremely well designed and displayed in an engaging and easy to consume way with different types of media. The ancient part of Fort St Jean is also well designed with many outdoor spaces to admire the city. I particularly love the thought they put into the design of the icons and signs!

The Mucem space is fantastic, and the layout is quite interesting.
We saw an exhibit on the Romani, which was very enlightening. We wish it was more approachable by including more opportunities to understand in English. We found ourselves looking up words much of the time. Upon entering, the guard asked us to carry our day-bags in front, not on our backs, and not to take photos. After seeing the exhibit, I believe photos should be encouraged so that the message of the plight of the Romani could be better disseminated.
We also saw an exhibit on the history of the Mediterranean, which didn't teach us anything really knew, and we are no experts. There were a couple more exhibits that we missed because they were not well marked, and we found ourselves wandering away.

Get your camera ready to capture postcard pictures of the Basilica and the Mediterranean Sea. I booked the ticket online the day before. I entered from Quay du Port, then followed the walkway surrounding Ford Saint John. Such a view of the Mediterranean Sea. Finally, following the steel beam, I got to the 3rd floor of the museum. I was given a sticker after my ticket had been scanned by the staff. The sticker enabled me to visit any of the exhibitions.
The temporary Fashion Folklore exhibition really surprised me. I had never seen so many masterpieces of famous couturiers and haute couture houses all in one place - nearly 300 pieces from the Mucem's collections and loans from French and foreign museums. The Saint Laurent Church exit will lead you to a viewing terrace where you could get the best/unrestricted view of the Basilica. You need to go down from the viewing terrace if you want to catch a bus e.g. #60 can take you all the way up to the Basilica.

The architecture and the style of the museum are really unique, especially you have to go to the rooftop (it’s fully free) and take a look around the sea.
However the exhibitions itself to me were not that good. The permanent exhibition is just a lot of photos of different cities and some of the temporary ones were also nothing special. The only one I enjoyed was about fashion as they had some beautiful pieces of clothing.
In the end I suggest taking a free walk around the roof and the castle without paying for exhibitions.

The architectural is impressive. A journey into history. If you do not speak French, I advise you to download their application, including an English language voice guide. Therefore, headphones are recommended.
If you have ever been in Marseille, I encourage you to check out the Mucem for yourself.

If you buy your tickets online, you don’t have to wait to get in. There are areas that can be accessed for free. However, I found the expositions quite informative. Thus, paying 11€ was worth it. I learned a lot about the different world maps and calendars. It’s a big museum and I wished I came earlier. Nevertheless, I recommend visiting it. 😊

Great outside architecture, you can walk between elevation and a building. Garden area and fort connected with a bridge. Interesting exhibition.

I learned so much about the history of Marseille here. It's a beautiful and historical place to visit. In addition to the expositions, it also has little gardens, cafés, and places to sit in the sun while enjoying the sea view. I fully recommend visiting.

Beautiful museum. There was a very thoughtful exhibition about gypsies in Europe. There was English translation for most of it, which I was worried about before going. But what was most impressive about the museum was more the surrounding picturesque environment. The views surrounding the museum is gorgeous, including the fort. You must go up to the fort to see the entire view of Marseille. You can see the view of the sea, as well as both famous cathedrals. The museum itself was a little disorganized in terms of the exhibits. I found myself getting confused about where to go even with an English map. There’s a very cute cafe area outside. The building itself is very interesting in contrast with the old architecture next to it.

The museum has great architecture and the exhibits are curated in an engaging and accessible way. The views from the rooftop are also nice.
