Orvieto Underground is a subterranean city with 1,200 caves, tunnels, and wells carved into the rock 2.5-3 millennia ago. The town's splendor can be found not only in its enchanting streets, but also in the underground space where inhabitants have been excavating for centuries to get material to build and use for anything from creating olive oil to farming doves.
Very ancient history, years back there were life exist in the caves.

This tour was quite informative and extremely interesting. Definitely worth the time and expense. Some parts of the tour included steep steps and small rooms. Nothing too challenging though. Just the right length of time too. Enjoy!!!
Penny Phillips — Google review
A public tour of a few tunnels beneath Orvieto. Knowledgeable tour guide, need to be pretty mobile to access the tunnels.
The one drawback was they limit the tour to 2 tunnel complexes on the outskirts of town. While the entire city has tunnels breath it, you can only access these two from the tour.
Carter — Google review
Highly recommended tour (you can't go without a guide and a small group) in the caves below the city.
Interesting history and also a great escape from the sun in hot summer days.
Ticket is only 7 Eur.
Enjoy!

Senior rate 6€, about 1 hr in duration. The guide brought the group of about 16 to two caves and explained the purpose and many details of the history. The brochures and website didn’t seem to agree on when the English language tours were, so I’d recommend just visiting when the ticket office opens (Duomo square) and ask, then choose your tour time and if it’s later in the day, take the city bus to the Fortress or walk!
Also, regarding accessibility, one of the caves was relatively easy to navigate, only 5 steps or so. The other cave included very steep steps- probably not accessible for someone with a cane or mobility issues.

Very interesting tour. We bought tickets after we arrived in Orvieto for the day and waiting about 30 minutes for our English-speaking tour to begin. We had around 25 people in our tour group so that wasn’t too bad. The tour itself took about an hour and was very informative about the city and the underground that had been built.
Craig McMichael — Google review
A very interesting place and a very good guide. She told a lot of interesting information and made it concise and clear. Got to know about the history of Orvieto's underground. Price is 7eur per person.

Buy tickets in advance. Can request English speaking tour. Guide was entertaining. Walk lasted an hour. Enjoyed it.
Bruce Tamanaha — Google review
This is worth every penny of the 5€ to enter. It is amazing what we as humanity have build centuries ago. This is one of those places. You enter and decend a long old stone stare well while seeing people go up, you each have your own walk way as the design is perfect. It is just a thing you have to see once in your life! Toss a penny in the well for good luck.
StewartGerard — Google review
We learned so much on our underground tour! We loved our guide and her passion for history. A must do while visiting Orvieto - a beautiful city with such a fascinating history. I highly recommend spending an hour or so of your day and enjoying this tour. Call for a reservation ahead of time!
Ashley Meuser — Google review
Great tour! Besides the impressive caves, what I found most impressive was the view on route to the underground. The guide was also excellent in explaining the history and background.
There are a few steps to go up and down. Please be careful. Also you need to book the tour in advance. You can’t just show up for the tour.
Wendy Law — Google review
Visual artifact-based history lesson was interesting and memorable. Glad we went. (No need to go again). Not a cave system - really a set of “cave basements” but interesting nonetheless. And dry during the rainstorm!
Bernadette Minton — Google review
Fascinating. Be prepared to climb up and down very narrow stairways. Obviously, not for the claustrophobic.
The Well of Saint Patrick was a well built by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger for the Holy Emperor Charles V to ensure an adequate water supply in the event of a siege. It was completed during the papacy of Pope Paul III and is also known as the Fortress Well.
Medieval town lots of interesting views to offer. Restaurants and shops are on the main streets. More flat with 20 steps up and down.
Honey Pardillo — Google review
Another interesting and inexpensive adventure. I did not do the complete walk down approximately 500 steps. Down would have been fine but coming back up would not be as fun.
Chris Morris — Google review
Something different and fun to do on your visit to Orvieto. Wouldn’t miss it if you are already in the city to see the duomo. Neat and well preserved, you start at the top of the well, walk down, and then walk back up. Roughly 250 steps each way. If you are claustrophobic, scared of heights, or not able to walk up that number of steps alse keeping in mind it can be damp and you should be careful of your footing, it may not be for you, but there are still beautiful views. Tickets to go in the well are €5. They did seem to keep good moderation of the number of people inside at once so it did not get too crowded, great for both heat and covid reasons.
Stephanie Malone — Google review
Great attraction in the city of Orvieto, it's a deep well with round stairs (people said around 500 steps each way lol) but it's so interesting! The ticket is 5€, reduced to 3.50 for groups of 6 or over. In my opinion is worth the visit :)
Vins Prencipe — Google review
Nice concept of historical design, the design and the story will amuse you. One of the stories i heard is that there is two ways of the stairs because one is the way up and the other is to go down they made it like this so that the donkeys won't get on eachothers way.
Biruktawit M — Google review
Wow! Don’t miss it! The well is a fascinating piece of architecture. Before you enter, know that it is one way down, down, down, down, down…to the very bottom before you can go back up in the second staircase that pairs the descent - it’s amazing! Worth a visit if you don’t mind a lot of stairs, heights (yes, heights) and dark passages (Disclaimer: my claustrophobia clicked in and I only made it partway down before heading up the downwards staircase against the flow of visitors and pushing myself out the one way entry. Couldn’t do it but I still think the place is awesome).
Tricia Fitzpatrick — Google review
An excellent interlude and most interesting well - fair walk down stairs only for the fit amongst us. Highly recommended
FlyingFox — Google review
A large well with two easy staircases, one to go down and another to go up. A perfect one way system. When I say easy, I mean the height of the steps isn't great but be aware that there are a lot of them, 248 I recall.
Ian J — Google review
Really interesting experience. 2 stairways...one down and one up and they follow the well wall but only meet at the bottom.
Do not try this if you arenotfit enough. 248 steps each way
It is a slog coming up...
Tickets are available at the top of the finiculare
The Duomo di Orvieto is a Gothic cathedral located in the city of Orvieto in Italy. It was founded in the fourteenth century as a response to a Eucharistic miracle that happened nearby. The cathedral has beautiful frescoes and mosaics on its gold facade, and is one of the top tourist destinations in Italy.
The history that involves this amazing architecture is fabulous. You can see the old testament and the new one carved on the walls of the entrance of the church.
A really beautiful place and full of history. Hire a tour guide so you can learn more about it.
Jonatan Almanza V. — Google review
Spectacular building! Very unique. Much of the attraction can be seen from the outside but I think the €5 entrance ticket is worth it as the altar, chapels and organ inside are beautiful. Nicely preserved frescos. The entrance ticket also gains you access to a small museum and the space below the church. The highlight of Orvieto.
Stephanie Malone — Google review
Awesome experience. You will be amazed with the beauty inside. It’s so picturesque and something to see. Make sure to see the organ and pipes up front. I can only imagine hearing it played. The stained glass windows offer some great photos. Take time to reset your own mindset before you exit.
Kentrell Charles — Google review
A magnificent church as main feature of this medieval city, with splendid architecture and beautiful surrounding buildings of the time. The black-white layered marble throughout the facade gives it a majestic character found in similar Tuscan cities.
Raymond Dimech — Google review
I was impressed by the scales of the cathedral. The art inside can be compared with Milan's cathedral. Number 1 to visit in Orvieto.
Християн Пенев — Google review
Very beautiful Duomo / cathedral steeped in history and art. Can see the alabaster windows and stained glass inside. Floor is not the original mosaic like in Siena. The facade is gorgeous for those who don't want to pay the 5€ fee. But fee also included inside art painting and sculptures, tombs underground and Orvieto tunnels tour. Light a candle.
Flow Joe — Google review
Absolutely beautiful cathedral in the heart of Orvieto. A must visit when in Orvieto. But be respectful. Shorts and dresses must be to your knees and shoulders must be covered to be admitted. Hats for men AND women are to be removed before entering.
Rob B. — Google review
The cathedral flagstone was laid on 13 November 1290 but work (reconstruction, redesign) continued into the 20th century. In fact, the beautiful bronze doors were added in 1970.
The side walls, alternating layers of local white travertine and blue-grey basalt stone are a stark, but beautiful contrast to the glittering gold-accented front facade.
Unfortunately, we could not enter the church owing to a funeral.
A large rose window and golden mosaics, and a wealth of sculpture festoon the front. The cathedral has five bells, dating back to the Renaissance.
Sharon Hanson — Google review
Very beautiful cathedral. Worth to go inside.
Should check the opening hours, they change throughout the year.
At summer it closes at 19:00

THE BIGGEST CHURCH I'VE EVER SEEN ATOP A MOUNTAIN!!!!!
Orvieto was really something to see the town is atop a mountain they have a cable lift up mountain and on top you can take a ride on a trolley that takes you to different parts of Orvieto. Each hamlet has its own flavor, even a mid evil section ! But when you come to this church, it's mind-blowing! Beautiful! We took the trenetia train from Rome for about an hour twenty minutes. Great place to get out of Rome for a day. You will love it! Just be aware of the train schedule tricky. The trolley is 9 euro and lift two and half euro well worth it.

A very impressive gothic cathedral. Free parking space nearby. Not very crowded.

Wow wow wow! This is a true beauty. Please go see this if you’re in the area. It is in my top 3 of all “Dom’s” in Italy, the design is absolutely insane and to think it took 300 years to build. I’m so thankful my friend dragged me out here and to the well. Worth it for a day trip 100%

Possibly one of the most impressive cathedrals in Italy - With it’s breathtaking facade and prominent location / stunning. Also the frescos and stained glass are perfectly preserved/restored. Also Attending a concert here can be a life-changing experience.

Nestled in a quaint little hill town, this duomo is spectacular.
What is the difference between a cathedral and a Duomo? They are in fact one and the same!
Duomo is an Italian word for cathedral, which is a Catholic church where the bishop resides.
I would not like to live in a world without cathedrals. I need their beauty and grandeur. I need their imperious silence. I need it against the witless bellowing of the barracks yard and the witty chatter of the yes-men. I want to hear the rustling of the organ, this deluge of ethereal notes. I need it against the shrill farce of marches.

I was there for a brief excursion in 2023 and decided I had to go back to explore and learn more so we stayed four days in a 1000 year old B&B and fully explored and discovered so much more of the town as well as " The tunnels" The cathedral is simply incredible, we enjoyed Easter services there too.
La Scarzuola is a restored 16th-century monastery and architectural complex that offers guided tours by reservation. The site features eccentric architecture, theaters, and temples arranged along a hilly path, creating a surreal atmosphere. Originally a Franciscan abbey built by Saint Francis in 1218, the property was purchased by architect Tomaso Buzzi in 1958. Buzzi transformed it into his ideal city with seven theaters, blending historical styles and symbols in his designs.
A truly unique experience. Amazing art installation used for commercials, product launches, and movies. The 'road' to get there is a bit rough but it's worth the trip!
Joe Valeri — Google review
Amazing place.
A convent/church that has been revived by a genius architect and artist who built magnificent and creative theaters behind it.
Unique. Wherever you look, you'll see another work of art.
Entrance only on weekends by pre reservation.
The tour (mandatory) is a bit too long, and *you can't* leave before it ends...
David naftalis — Google review
The place is interesting to visit. But the owner, who is also the guide, is not only very rude but also extremely vulgar. Parents with children who understand Italian should be aware!!
Ida Wegter — Google review
The nephew of the architect is as philosophical and talented as a shoe sole. His attempt at a crazy genius fails as you are forced to endure his spiel that is as deep as a puddle, as his jaw moves erratically and separate to his speech from years of particular fun that fueled his delusions of grandeur and deluded Nirvana state.
The buildings are lovely, though. Wish I got to know more about them and the art.
Rowan Payen — Google review
Do not go. Tax scam artist.
Cash only e no receipt given, the group had 100 people instead of 30 as advertised. The guide was talking nonsense pretending to be enlightened and playing the part of the misunderstood genius but his thinking was as deep as a puddle. It was a very sad show, which was to be expected considering the content of his website.
To give you an example of his “genius” philosophy, let me quote one of the many pearls he shared with us “Do you know who controls the internet? The dark internet, the darkness controls everything. You are all controlled” (fake hysterical laugh).
The place has potential and the experience could have been a pleasant and interesting show with surrealist metaphysics traits if actual knowledge was shared instead of a nonsensical rant.
Additionally, nothing was explained in terms of the art and creation process. Tedious experience.

The architect Tomaso Buzzi is the creative mind who brought together historical styles, symbols, and quotes from the past in his designs for this aritecture park. Built on the ex-property of a Franciscan monestary. Our guide, the nephew of Buzzi, opened the visit by noting: "St. Francis was the first who used drugs" as a way to think about the way people use drugs today to change their perception of the world. The tour is in italian but there is someone on hand to help with English sums on the side. Group visit is big (c100 people) but the guide uses a speaker-microphone so it was easy to hear. Also, big open spaces and much freedom to walk around and take photos. It seemed to me many people in my group did not read about the site in advance OR were not open-minded enough to appreciate the site and the guide. I highly recommend the site for people who want to have an experience outside the norm of guided visits to art-gardens in Italy. Be sure to rsvp weeks in advance.

It’s a nice lake to look at, but not to swim in. Fist of all, it’s a challenge to find a nice place to enter the water without walking through a swamp. Secondly, the water is murky, smelly and shallow. I’m a huge fan of natural lakes but when here, I (unfortunately) preferred the touristic swimming pools.
Kristof De Maesschalck — Google review
Lake Trasimeno, Italy's fourth-largest lake, is a stream-fed body of water surrounded by vineyards, olive trees, and old castles. It offers freshwater fish and fishing, as well as all the water sports one can handle. With swimming-safe waters, a 50-kilometer bike path around the lake promoting exploration, and a natural park that encompasses the entire lake, this is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.

To be honest I had no idea what this place was before I visited. We stopped here on our way to Rome, as we were leaving the Val D’Orcia. To be frank: the best views we saw of the Val D’Orcia were from here. There’s also a nice little museum here that explains the historical importance of this site.

It was an absolutely amazing experience. It's a beautiful place and if you are in the area and interested in castles and forts, it's a must see.
There is also a grill with great food right next to the Fort. The Fort itself has tons of information inside and has a great view over the area.
Entrance is €4 per person and it's definitely worth it to do it alone or as a group. The tight, windy staircases give you a great feel for the history of the place while also not feeling too claustrophobic. You can really envision the history that comes with the Fort.

In the heart of Tuscany, nestled among the rolling hills and vineyards, lies the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Biagio. This ancient church is perched atop a hill, overlooking the quaint town of Montepulciano, and has been a place of pilgrimage and worship for centuries.
Legend has it that the sanctuary was built in the early 16th century after a shepherd boy had a vision of the Virgin Mary on this very spot. The boy claimed that she appeared to him in a bright light and spoke to him, telling him to build a church in her honor. The shepherd boy, along with the help of the townspeople, constructed the sanctuary, and it has been a sacred place ever since.
As you approach the sanctuary, the first thing you notice is the grand staircase leading up to the entrance. The steps are made of marble and adorned with intricate carvings of angels and saints. At the top of the staircase, two massive wooden doors stand tall, welcoming all who come to visit.
Once inside, the beauty of the sanctuary takes your breath away. The walls are painted in soft pastel colors, and the ceiling is adorned with elaborate frescoes depicting scenes from the Bible. The altar is the centerpiece of the church, with a statue of the Madonna di San Biagio standing proudly in the center. The statue is said to have miraculous healing powers, and many come to pray for loved ones who are sick or in need of help.
The sanctuary is also home to a small chapel, where visitors can light candles and offer prayers. The walls of the chapel are lined with small plaques, each one a testament to a prayer answered. The atmosphere is one of peace and tranquility, and it is easy to see why people come from all over the world to seek solace in this sacred place.
As you wander around the sanctuary, you can't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder. The intricate details of the architecture, the beautiful artwork, and the peaceful atmosphere all come together to create a truly special place. It is no wonder that the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Biagio has become a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims alike.
As the sun sets over the Tuscan countryside, the sanctuary takes on a whole new level of beauty. The warm glow of the setting sun illuminates the church, making it look as if it is glowing from within. It is a sight that will stay with you forever.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Biagio is not just a church; it is a sacred place that holds a special meaning for all who visit. It is a place of peace, hope, and faith, and it will continue to be a beacon of light for generations to come.

⛪ Nice church inside the nature. Breathtaking view.
The church, which was built between 1518 and 1540, an example of Renaissance Greek cross central plan, was designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, who was inspired by the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Carceri in Prato, which had been designed years before by his brother Giuliano da Sangallo.[1] The same plan, taken from Filippo Brunelleschi's works, was used for the original design by Bramante and Michelangelo for St. Peter's Basilica, as well as for the church of Santa Maria della Consolazione in Todi, of uncertain paternity.
The late Renaissance building was constructed on the site of a pre-existing Palaeochristian pieve dedicated to St. Mary and subsequently to St. Blaise. In the early 16th century only remains existed of the pieve, including a wall with a fresco of Madonna with Child and St. Francis, from a 14th-century Sienese painter. The project was supported by Pope Leo X, who had studied under Angelo Poliziano, a native of Montepulciano.
The construction lasted until 1580 and, after Sangallo's death, was directed by other superintendents.

Eremo Francescano “Le Celle”
In June we visited Cortona, we made a pilgrimage to visit Eremo Francescano “Le Celle”. The Hermitage is beautiful, situated on a steep valley with a stream running through the center. When we were there, the capers were starting to bloom. Capers grow anywhere from rock walls to open ground with a lot of sun exposure. Two monks were harvesting the capers and explained the entire process. These surroundings are beautiful and very peaceful, we enjoyed our visit. This was just another reason to visit Cortona the home of Frances Mayes, the author of Under the Tuscan Sun.

The tranquil Abbazia di SantAntimo is a Romanesque abbey located in a picturesque valley near Castelnuovo dellAbate and Montalcino. Its exterior is adorned with stone carvings of mythical animals, while inside there are magnificent 13th-century polychrome Madonna and Child paintings, as well as a 12th-century Crucifixion above the main altar. This historic gem of pale stone is definitely worth visiting for its serene beauty and scenic location.
Full of history and in a great location. Make sure you bring coins to pay for parking if you don't have the app. Also great shop where they make a lot of interesting alcoholic drinks and creams, tinctures etc

We wanted to visit here because of the Gregorian Chants. It’s posted all over the Internet that monks chanting daily. I contacted Abby to ask day/time we could see the monks chanting. They said that there are no longer monks chanting. See photo of out conversation below. It looks like a pretty spot. But we won’t be visiting because the Gregorian chants were the main reason we wanted to go there.

Gorgeous. The abbey and the countryside around it are beautiful. Highly recommend getting the audio guide and walking around- not sure who narrates in English, but in Italian one of the brothers does the narration and it's very interesting. Also the gift shop is great. Just be aware there might not be a working bathroom - stop at a bar in the town first if you're in need.

Unusually, this abbey is at the bottom of a valley instead of the top of a hill. Was built through pilgrim donations and a medicinal garden has been created behind the abbey. Toilet facilities are available for 50 cents, but don't ask for soap to wash your hands, the signora that looks after the little shop is extremely aggressive.

The Abbey, a jewel of medieval mysticism. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in an ancient Roman style, which also has elements of the French and Lombardy styles.
Legend has it that the abbey was founded by Charles the Great in 781. The king and his army stopped here on the way back from Rome as the soldiers were afflicted by an unknown pestilence. An angel appeared to Charlemagne, telling him to make his men drink an infusion with a local herb. The cure worked and the army was saved so the king decided to build the church in gratitude.

When the waitress brought the bill, our otherwise pleasant experience was ruined. It turned out that she had brought us a different wine tasting set than we had ordered, and obviously what she had brought us was significantly more expensive. The wines we tasted and the cheeses that accompanied the wines were good, but from a place that tries to present itself as an up-scale wine bar and wine shop, you don't expect such typical "how can we fool the tourist" trics.

Piero della Francesca was an Italian painter and mathematician, whose work - centered almost exclusively on religious subjects - exerted a strong influence on many Renaissance painters. he gained his reputation through his artistic representations in perspective and through geometric forms, as well as through the theoretical knowledge formulated in his writings. To its recognition were added very realistic elaboration of details, refined color palette and bold decorative solutions.
In 1452, Piero della Francesca receives the order for the decoration of the choir of the church of San Francesco in Arezzo, after which the cycle of paintings was born illustrating the most important episodes of the "Legend of the true cross", inspired by the story "The Legend of Gold" by Jacques de Voragine from the thirteenth century. The cycle contains six large scenes, three on each of the two sides of the chapel, as well as a group of smaller frescoes. The work on this monumental work will take many years, as the artist travels all the time and always accepts new orders. The fresco will be finished only between 1462-1466.

The Crete Senesi refers to an area of the Italian region of Tuscany to the south of Siena. It consists of a range of hills and woods among villages and includes the comuni of Asciano, Buonconvento, Monteroni d'Arbia, Rapolano Terme and San Giovanni d'Asso, all within the province of Siena.
Crete senesi are literally ‘Senese clays’, and the distinctive grey colouration of the soil gives the landscape an appearance often described as lunar. This characteristic clay, known as mattaione, represents the sediments of the Pliocene sea which covered the area between 2.5 and 4.5 million years ago. Nearby is also the semi-arid area known as the Accona Desert.
Perhaps the most notable edifice of this area is the monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore.
The region is known for its production of white truffles, and hosts a festival and a museum dedicated to the rare fungus (genus Tuber).
La Verna is a stunning Franciscan sanctuary situated on a lush cliffside with panoramic views. It is considered a significant pilgrimage destination as St Francis of Assisi reportedly received the stigmata here. The Corridoio delle Stimmate, adorned with contemporary frescoes depicting his life, leads to the Cappella delle Stimmate built in 1263 where he supposedly received the stigmata before passing away at age 44.

The path starts at the parking lot and goes uphill through the forest. Then you reach the upper area. The monks have just gathered for worship and you look around. I am in the colonnaded corridor that leads to the grotto when the door to the chapel opens and the monks slowly move towards me in two rows through the corridor, singing. Their singing and the acoustics are overwhelming. When the group passed me after about two minutes, I was speechless...
I'm not a very religious person, but experiencing this touched me deeply and gave me a lot to think about for the rest of the day! It goes without saying that such an event cannot be filmed or photographed.

Castello di Brolio is a beautiful and well-maintained 12th century castle in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany. The property includes a vineyard and wine estate, as well as a small museum with exhibits on Baron Bettino Ricasoli and the development of Chianti Classico wine. The tour of the castle is interesting and provides impressive views of the surrounding wineries. The restaurant offers an exquisite taste of Tuscan cuisine.
If you're going to do a wine tour, why not make it a full experience? The tour of Castello di Brolio is a fantastic value that includes a castle, a chapel and crypt, a private museum including a unique collection of arms, a panoramic vista onto rolling vineyards, a visit to the production facility and cellars, and topped off with a generous guided tasting of three delicious wines. Our guide was friendly, and shared and impressive amount of interesting information while still allowing time for questions and enjoying our surroundings. Be sure to book ahead as the tours will sell out, and make sure you're ready to do a good amount of walking. I highly recommend this experience!

This is the oldest winery in Italy and we had a lot of fun learning about the history of the winery and the family in our castle tour + wine tasting. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. The wine tasting itself was only so-so (it felt a bit formal and stiff and was in a separate building down the hill from the castle) but the tour is worth it to give you the fascinating historical contest of the wine you’re drinking. Amazing views of Chianti from the castle and $35 euro is a great value for a tour and tasting.

This was our first castle experience in Tuscany and the guide was very informative. It was obvious she cared about the history and information being provided. Similarly, the garden and self guided tour around the property was beautiful. It was hard not to fall in love with the scenery, especially since learning that this is the second oldest winery in the world and oldest in Italy. We admired the history and beauty so much that my wife and i decided to come back on our month long Tuscany tour and exchange vows during our elopement!

Very disappointing wine tasting. We had a long walk to the winery and had visions of sitting on a lovely terrace looking out over the Tuscan countryside with a nice glass of wine. It turns out that the tastings are held in a small enclosed tasting room where standing at a table is the only option. We chose the 4 wine tasting, these were brought over at the same time, with little tags on to show which was which, and just left with us and that was all the interaction that you get. No explanations, no tasting notes, unfriendly service, and to top it off we didn’t even enjoy the wine. Not the experience we had hoped for.

The tasting was great. They poured us a ton of wine, even some older vintages. It isn’t the absolute best wine in Chianti, but it is good.

Situated amidst the Tuscan hills with their characteristic cypress trees and vineyard fields, Castello di Brolio provides a visual treat to its visitors. The castle's architecture is commendable, and walking along the castle wall presents a unique perspective.
On the day of our visit, entrance was free, limiting our interaction with the staff. However, we did note that they were courteous and professional. Standard entrance fees are 6.50€ for non-guided entrance and 10€ for a guided tour, which includes an exhibition in one of the towers. While the non-guided entrance fee may seem somewhat high, the panoramic views offered by the castle could potentially justify this cost.
Parking at Castello di Brolio is ample, reducing the hassle for visitors. There is an on-site restaurant, serving wine from the castle's own vineyard. However, we were unable to try the food as it was closing time when we arrived.
In terms of cleanliness, the place was well-kept, including the restrooms available at the entrance.
As for the castle's history, it's worth mentioning that it has been in the Ricasoli family since 1141. The castle's vineyard produces the Chianti Classico wine, adding a historic and cultural significance to the location.
Castello di Brolio offers a worthwhile visit for those in the region, thanks to its historic appeal, architectural beauty, and stunning natural surroundings. Based on my experience, I would consider returning during a future trip to the Chianti area.

A castle owned by Ricasoli family for more than 800 years. Since year 1100 they have their own vineyards and are one of the most notable vine brands in Italy and one of the four oldest vine estates in the world.
Castle itself is stunning. Basic ticket for entrance is 6.5€ and includes vine tasting. Other tours and bookings available.
Highly recommended when visiting Tuscany.

Fantastic tour and tasting experience!! Our rainy arrival became a sunny and warm-hearted tour of the Ricasoli Castle. Following an in-depth tour, we had an informative and very enjoyable tasting. We also reserved a VERY ENJOYABLE lunch at the nearby estate ristorante. Service was excellent and the menu outstanding!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this estate for tour, tasting and luncheon!!

Is a camping only for campers or minivans, campsite is very quiet in the middle of beautifull nature. All is very well maintained and clean. For breakfast, bread and diner there is closeby a very good hotel. Very friendly englisch speaking staff. Got some great advice for hikes.

(Translated by Google) Sometimes, reading other reviews, I wonder if we visited the same place. My family and I had a great time. Of course, the mini campsite has only 13 places, 4 of which are unsuitable for campers larger than 7 meters and the pitches are shaded only until late morning and starting from late afternoon, but we didn't suffer from the heat. Let's see the positive aspects... Cost of around €20 for 4 people + pitch in mid-August! Those who access the campsite can purchase a ticket costing €20 for 4 people valid for two days for access to the dam and ridracoli museum (shuttle included). Services included: loading and unloading, water on the pitch, electricity, 4 hot showers, 4 toilets, 6 sinks, 5 washbasins, 3 grill places and a pizza or bread oven, covered tables and benches, ample space for opening the awning, small play area for children. Everything available on just 13 pitches. What is missing?? I don't know... Swimming pool? Evening entertainment? Guided tour of the pyramids of Giza? :-)

Cosa manca?? Non saprei... Piscina? Animazione serale? Visita guidata alle piramidi di Giza? :-)

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately we thought that this camper area was also used as a campsite and instead not: having had the tent we did not sleep on the grass but on a hard and uncomfortable plastic net and we were not able to use electricity because it was mandatory to have an adapter for camper (the reception could not lend it). The cleanliness has really left us speechless because, just in the week of August, the cleaning of bathrooms and showers have never been done for more than 3 days and the garbage has never been emptied, even though the structure was almost full.
There are no bar or restaurant services within km and km and the camper area wi fi is only available in the reception, 200m away from the camper area. I would say NEVER AGAIN.

I bought a bag and a pair of sunglasses last week. The sunglasses doesn’t have the case and cloth and the bag doesn’t have the controllato card. We already left Florence when I noticed it so we just called Gucci about it and they said we need to go back to The Mall, which is impossible because we’re leaving in a few days. I know they are experts and professional so I didn’t check the paper bag but I guess I’m wrong.

The Gucci outlet is good and the sales staffs are friendly and responsive. I made a few purchases at the outlet in Dec 2022. The minus is Gucci is using Planet as the tax refund payment service . I had Submitted the tax refunds form and validated at Milano airport tax custom on 24 Dec 2022. Till date, I still have not received any tax refund from Planet. Planet Customer service hotline is dead and no response when I email to the customer service. Gucci should seriously consider changing the tax refund payment service to Global blues which is fast in paying the tax refund .I had the refund within days.

Make sure you check what you bought before leaving the store. We bought a bag and the sales lady said she will get a brand new one from the backroom. We paid and left without checking. When we got back to our hotel, we checked the bag and found it was either a used one or defective one, where the leather on all 4 bottom corners were worn. We had to revisit the store the next day and got it exchanged.

Castello di Verrazzano is a castle and winery situated on a picturesque hillside. Guests can participate in cellar tours, Chianti tastings, and enjoy dining outdoors. The wine tour includes trying four wines with an entire meal consisting of meat and cheese plates, pasta, meats, potatoes, breads, cookies, apple cake, caffe and grapa. The tasting experience is excellent with staff that are friendly and accommodating.
Amazing winery, delicious wine, stunning views, good choice of wine and cheese. We were in normal Wine tour for 24 EUR. It was super curious, and 3 types of wine are amazing. I loved it. We've got there by bus, but it's a pretty difficult road from bus to the winery by walking (it's going up, it's baking, but the views are just amazing!). Of course going by car is the best way.
Highly recommend!

Did a wine tour hear and a tasting for lunch. The tasting was excellent and the staff was very nice. The tour was a bit longer than expected a bit over an hour which was probably more than most wanted. Tour and tasting. Ended up being 62Euro per person. You got to try 4 wines with a whole meal including meat and cheese plate, pasta, meat and potatoes, breads, cookies, apple cake, caffe, and grapa. The wines also were refilled is you asked.
I would probably return here the view was beautiful.

5/5 experience! We take the tour and wine tasting and it was very nice- the castle is beautiful inside and out and all the historical explanations were very interesting and instructive. After this we tasted three different wines and cheese and balsamic and all was very good and tasty! The chianti reserve was one of the best wines I’ve ever tasted in my life! VERY recommended!!

We booked in the morning and arrived by 12 noon for a short tour and lunch/wine tasting. This was our third time there and always learn new things about this place and it’s wine. The wine tasting was excellent especially for me the Reserve was the best. Food was also fabulous- starting with the ham, then pasta, followed by grilled rib/sausages and then wine and desert. Price was €62 per person while they generously let our young kids ate free (mostly pasta). Truly enjoyed this experience again and will be back. Highly recommended!

We did the wine tour with lunch and it was truly memorable. The tour guide was friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable, the big dining/lunch room upstairs was so spacious and beautifully decorated, with amazing views of the Tuscan hills. We sampled 5 or 6 different wines and they were all paired with meats/cheeses, depending on what they’d go best with. Get like I learned something. :p Can’t wait to return!

Stunning winery, amazing lunch and most importantly, wonderful Chianti wines! Our family enjoyed our visit very much, we had the lunch and wine tour package. The food was really very good, it was around 4-5 courses and we were already stuffed. For the price, it was very worth it. Unlimited wine tasting but by the 4th glass we were all quite red already. Loved their wine so much we shipped 24 bottles home 🤭
One word of caution is that the roads up to the winery is very winding and narrow (and 2-way!) requires some good driving skills to navigate!

We scheduled a full tour with wine tasting and light lunch at Verrazano. This was with about 12 other people. The tour was about 45 minutes and was very extensive taking you through the history of the property and owner as well as the wine making process. All of the wine was delicious and they served it with a lovely pairing (their light lunch). I would highly recommend visiting this winery. They are much larger than some of the other wineries we visited which provided another great but different experience. Highly recommend booking online ahead of time!

We booked the wine tour and tasting for 2 adults and our 3 young kids at 10:30am. Catarina was our guide and she was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. We were in group of about 10, we were the only ones with kids and we felt included and welcomed. The tour was the perfect amount of time, it kept everyone engaged and we were able to see some of the wine making process along with the balsamic vinegar.
Afterwards we went to the tasting room and we’re able to taste 3 red wines and their balsamic on cheese (never had it this way and it was incredible). I highly recommend visiting and if you have young kids, don’t let that detour you from a stop.
My only recommendation would be for the property to think about offering a juice or something of the sort for the kids. You have to pay half price for kids 4 and older so a small glass of juice while the parents tasted would be appreciated. Water is provided at the table along with bread and olive oil.

We were a group of 12 adults and took a private winery tour, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience—beautiful scenic views. The wine is excellent, and they even ship it to the US. We ended up ordering over 36 bottles from them. If you are visiting, try the hor de vours and the balsamic vinegar. Recommended!!

We were lucky that the place is open on 26 Dec as most wineries only reopen on 28 Dec. The wine tour was extremely fun and interesting. The guide brought us around (around 30 mins) and we learnt about the history of the place, the area, Chianti Classico (vs Chianti). View from the place was absolutely stunning as well.
Ended the tour with the wine tasting which comes with 3 glasses of red wine, bread with olive oil, cheese and balsamic vinegar. Everything was great but the balsamic vinegar was definitely the highlight. Loved this place!

Piazza della Cisterna is a triangular plaza located in the heart of San Gimignano, Italy. The square is named for its 13th-century cistern, which still stands today. The plaza is surrounded by stately medieval buildings and attracts tourists due to its beauty and history.
Beautiful medieval square, when entering it you feel like you’ve traveled back in time. It had a well, Ice cream shops, souvenir shops etc. In the afternoon it can get busy, but in the morning or evening it’s less busy and also more beautiful.

Once we step inside the city walls in San Gimignano, we feel like we have stepped into another time, a few centuries back. It’s not just buildings that touch the clouds that are the only thing worth seeing in San Gimignano. Although the towers are what sets the city apart from others, many small charming Tuscan places. There are also countless beautiful churches, valuable works of art, palaces, beautiful narrow streets and squares. One of them is Piazza della Cisterna (Cistern Square). In earlier times, the Piazza della Cisterna was the centre of all public performances, tournaments and festivals that were held in the city. It was also the main marketplace of the people. Its design is from the 13th century and it is named after the Cisterna (Water Cistern) that is still present amid the piazza today. Connected to the town’s largest square, Piazza del Duomo through an open passage, this piazza is entirely paved with brick and is surrounded on all sides by houses and towers from the Medieval Era. The beauty and charm of this square is created by the beautiful atmosphere and scenery with l’arco dei Becci (Arc of Becci), which is the gate of the ancient city of San Gimignano. The Torri dei Becci (Tower of Becci) is on the left and the Torri dei Cugnanesi (Tower of Cugnanesi) is on the right side of this arc. Among these is the Palazzo Razzi, characterized by its mullion windows. The adjacent Casa Salvestrini is a former hospital that was converted into a hotel. Dine at the hotel’s café patio or upper floor restaurant, which affords views across Tuscany’s majestic countryside. Overlooking the north side of the square we can see Devil's Tower. Legend states that, after a trip, the tower’s proprietor noticed that its height had increased. He accredited the occurrence to a diabolical intervention and the tower subsequently took on its name. The square, along with Piazza Duomo, is a venue for various fairs which are held as part of festivals in honor of saints, including St. Fina, the city’s patron saint.

If you're gonna do just one thing in San Gimignano, climb the Torre Grossa. Definitely do it. Beats every single other experience we've had in Tuscany and Italy so far. The views from the top are just spectacular, a 360 degree view of the Tuscan countryside. I can't stress enough how beautiful it is. There are quite a few steps up - around 200, and there is no lift. So keep that in mind. It's worth getting the combined ticket if you're interested in medieval art, churches and frescoes, otherwise just go up the tower.
Come earlier during the day. We visited around 11 AM on a Saturday in May. There was no wait and not too many people - it didn't feel packed on the top.

Is remarkable, beautiful and medieval. But expensive ticket. I did not pay to climb. There are better views from other parts of the city. Ice cream is superb :).
Pajo TP — Google review
It is the tallest tower in the town and can be visited at a cost of €9 or €13 with the "SAN GIMIGNANO PASS".
There are many steps to reach the platform with the bells but the reward is a magnificent 360° panorama.
Wealthy families showed off their wealth by building towers and compete in their height .
A limit was placed on this, they could not be higher than the Rognosa tower, that of the "podestà" who was a public magistrate with various tasks.
To expand the space available to him in 1300 he began the construction of this new palace with this even higher tower: 54 meters.
For this reason the Grossa tower is also called the new "Podestà" tower.

Especially when it’s nice weather, I recommend to climb all the way up and admire the view from the top of the 50-meter-high tower. The stairs may take you some time (there are around 200 steps) but have been renovated so they are wide and more than safe
Daniele Rocchi — Google review
Well-worth the hike up 200+ stairs for these incredible 360 degree views of Tuscany. You need to climb a ladder to get to the very top of the tower and need to duck under the bell to experience the full views, which further limits accessibility, but there are some spots to take in views through windows along the way if the full climb isn't for you.
Claire — Google review
Possibly the best panoramic view in Tuscany! San Gimignano and Montepulciano are my favorites for scenic views. Worth the climb up the stairs and small ladder. Not crowded, even on a weekend, when nearby gelato shops have lines.
George F — Google review
When you visit San Gimignano the best place to see the amazing beauty of the town and surrounding countryside is to climb the Torre Grossa.
The views are well worth the climb, which is not too arduous.
Dan Woodruff — Google review
My wife and I paid 13EUR each to obtain a pass that included Torre Grossa entry. Despite being Sunday with crowds in the city, there was no line or waiting to gain entry to the tower. We ascended the 218 steps to the top of the tower and enjoyed spectacular views of both the city and surrounding area. The steps up are 'grated metal' and thus allow you to see all the way to the bottom of the stairwell if you look straight down - those with vertigo are advised to hang on to the railing and simply look straight ahead and you will be good-to-go. The stairwell ends with quite literally a steel ladder that you must climb approximately 10 feet before entering the top of the tower - so anyone not able to climb ladder rungs should probably avoid this adventure.

This is a very fancy winery. It has been rated as one of the nicest in the world for how it looks. It is super modern and they produce good wines, and they are expensive. I did not do a tasting but explored the grounds before lunch and it was nice. The tastings run around 160€ so if you wanna do that be prepared. If you don’t wanna do that you can go to their restaurant and order some of their wines. Went in March and the vines were not in full bloom.
I would return.

If you are looking for a winery close to florence or highway to take pictures with vineyards with a cool background and new age architecture, this is your spot.
There is a restaurant on top floor that the people are super nice. You have to book a reservation beforehand. It is a different name then this Google spot, can see from maps, and book the reservation through there. Don’t try to use website for this place as hard to get info.
I do recommend coming to see place, have to take a shuttle in also and park around. It is a professional place, just realize before you come that it isn’t a small family owned winery.

We booked wine testing (the short tour with 3 wines) for a couple, like a month before we arrived. we wanted our friends (another couple with a baby) to join us but there were no more available places on the website for the time we booked. so I booked our friends a tasting on another day. I have send them an email and asked if it was possible we do it together and luckily they changed the reservation so that we can make it.
My point is - you should try to talk to them in advance.
The place is beautiful, wonderful architecture and the wines were good.
I liked the most the Chianti Classico they offered.
You can also buy a testing in the wine shop.
Great experience.

Absolutely amazing. The winery is stunning with breathtaking views. We weren’t able to do a tour but enjoyed the tasting room and restaurant upstairs. The restaurant was actually closed when we got up there but they allowed us to have some wine and then offered us a meat plate AND dessert. It was above and beyond and we were so grateful for their hospitality. We will be sure to book a tour next time we are in Florence!

Our lunch stop here turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The moment we set foot on the grounds, we were mesmerized by the stunning beauty surrounding us. The rolling hills stretched out before our eyes, offering a picturesque backdrop that seemed straight out of a painting.
The food and wine only heightened our enjoyment. Each dish was a delightful fusion of traditional Tuscan flavors and modern culinary expertise. From the fresh, locally sourced ingredients paired with a glass of exquisite Tuscan wine. Highly recommended.

Wow wow wow what a beautiful place and not as typical winery you would think it will look like in Italy. Beautiful designed building amazing light.
We did a small tasting and had were lucky to get a table at the restaurant with amazing red wine and some charcuterie and cheese.
Perfect trip from Florence.

The wine was good but the tour was not worth it. It was a 2 hour tour + tasting but the tour lasted the full two hours and droned on for a very long time. The tasting then felt very rushed at the end past the time limit. Our guide was also somewhat rude. The building is beautiful but I would recommend just doing a tasting here.

Amazing place architecturaly. Well done for vision and courage.
Poor for ease of access. It was a very wet day and we were not allowed to drop our passengers up at the entrance. We were directed to a distant car park and told a shuttle bus would collect us. There was only one small shuttle bus which could take 8 passengers. There were a lot of people waiting.
We had to set off walking in the rain which took us 20 minutes. When we got to the restaurant (very wet) we were told we were 20 minutes late! There was no help for the physically challenged. Food and wine was very good but pricey. We trudged back to the car park after lunch and the shuttle bus passed us on the way down with only 2 people in it and didn't stop to take some of us. One of our group had a problem knee and found it very difficult.
It is certainly an amazing place but they need to be more customer caring. Allow the driver to drop off their passengers. This would put less pressure on the shuttle bus and, also, please do something to enable access for wheelchair users and those who find walking difficult.

Tiania tour (the smallest one) was nice, but it felt a bit rushed. We've been to winery tours where the guide is way more passionate and excited about wine making. This felt a bit robotic. Given this is a very large and famous winery, I can see why. Overall, we were very impressed with the facilities.
The wine tasting was pretty standard. If you wanted additional tastings to the tour, you could pay for different sized pours.
It's a beautiful spot to visit, but you absolutely need to book months in advance. I'd go again to try their more expensive tours, but I wouldn't expect the family run vibe.

Beautiful beautiful place, stunning location and modern and spacious architecture! Went there for a welcome dinner for a friends wedding. Had an informative wine tour, and then a beautiful cocktail reception during sunset and deeeeelicious dinner. The food was superb and the wine the best of the best! Highly recommended!

Antinori nel Chianti Classico offers a serene escape amidst the stunning landscapes of Tuscany, blending sustainable design with fine wines for a memorable experience. The tour, priced at 100€ per person, leads guests through meticulously designed spaces that meet high expectations. However, while the ambiance is enchanting, the tour experience lacks depth in information delivery, leaving some visitors wanting more engagement. Additionally, though the staff means well, service in the restaurant area can be slow, with prices slightly outweighing the perceived quality. Despite these hiccups, Antinori nel Chianti Classico remains a captivating retreat for wine lovers and design enthusiasts alike.

An incredible winery with the most incredible collection of wines and architecture. Make sure you book ahead for any of the tours, we unfortunately didn't get a chance, however the wine tasting was worth the trip alone. We took 4 bottles with us and the staff made sure to pack them up in boxes for our flight back, so were incredibly appreciative.

Unforgettable Experience at Antinori nel Chianti Classico Winery
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Antinori nel Chianti Classico winery in Tuscany, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the breathtaking location amidst the rolling hills to the knowledgeable and passionate staff, everything exceeded my expectations. The state-of-the-art facilities, exceptional wines, delightful dining, and commitment to sustainability all made it a perfect blend of beauty, culture, and flavor. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tuscany!

We visited Antinori nel Chianti Classico in August 2023, it was one of the best experiences of our trip, is like stepping into a Tuscan dream. The wines were incredible, rich, flavorful, and utterly delicious. The winery itself is a masterpiece of architecture, seamlessly blending modern design with the traditional Tuscan landscape. The staff was so kind and attentive, ready to share their passion and knowledge with a smile. A visit here isn’t just about wine; it’s an experience you’ll remember forever.

We visited the winery in July of 2023, and had the best time. I would highly recommend booking far pin advance as its very hard to get a spot for a tour and tasting. We booked in the spring (approximately April) for a full experience tour and tasting + lunch.
The architecture is truly amazing, and almost transports you to another world. You arrive underneath the famous staircase, and then make your way up to the main lobby where you meet your guide and begin your tour. The full tour is about 1.5 - 2 hours where you get to see the different areas of the winery. The place is meticulously clean and well maintained, and the guides are knowledgeable and kind. After the tour, we were able to experience a small group tasting in one of their beautiful tasting rooms. We then made our way to the roof to have lunch (+ more wine) and their garden terrace restaurant. The food was delicious, and they were very generous with the wine at lunch!
I would highly recommend booking the first time slot of the day - we arrived at 10 am and toured with a group of approximately 10 people which allowed us to do our tasting in the beautiful small room overlooking the wine barrels. Other groups later in the day seemed to have double the amount of people included, so the wine tasting happened as more of a standing cocktail table affair, which wouldn’t have provided the same experience.

Wonderful wines and stunning architecture! Loved visiting it, even though it was expensive and the restaurant did not meet our expectations;( just come and see, don’t eat, just drink - plenty, it’s very good 👍
Even in Vietnam they serve their wines!!!

One of the best winery in the world. It’s quite impressive. Modern architecture design that allow natural lights through. The staircase is beautiful, elegant and grand. Outside there are variety of grape plants around the winery.
You need to book both the wine tour and restaurant months in advance.
Sendi Widjaja — Google review
While the breathtaking architecture will help enjoy the shop and wine tasting experience, the over the top building has to be paid for by something, and that is with overpriced wine. 18€ tasting for 1oz of 4 different bottles and tours from 45€ to 185€. Obviously the 45€ tour is never available, so you are pushed into the expensive experience.
The service by the gate guard and tasting staff were terrific, but the reception desk is an area to skip.
Come for the view and the architecture, don’t expect much else but overpriced wine.

What can I say... mugello motogp. I've been to a lot of race tracks was expecting to be a tricky day but the parking was fine, 10e 10 mins from the entrance. Was pretty empty maybe due to 46 retiring. Great views, grandstands, toilets are squat and no loo roll but no queues either. As expected. No commentary on FM surprisingly. Beautiful place though and you can see a lot of the track from many points. We were in poggio secco.

Cool place! Would have had a better time had the day not been rained out. 🌧️ 😭
We waited quite a while to see if the rain would let up, but in the end we were not allowed to race. We got an IOU for later.
While we waited we got to oogle at the cars. Drooling over which to choose from. 😍
And to not go away inexperienced, we packed their black vans to take a ride around the track. It's funny what speed and handling is like in a van... Still fun.
Looking forward to the next time I am there, on a more sunny day ☀️

Mugello circuit, home of the Italian GP.
The place is amazing in every way except for one.
It tends to be unorganized during the MotoGP, and you can only park your car really far away.
We have to walk 4.5 KM to reach our seats.
My advice would be to come few hours before the race or event you'd like to attend.

My dream came finally true. It was a great pleasure to be there for the 2023 Motogp race. It was extra pleasure that was a Ducati 1-2-3 podium.
Very good, convenient and informative infrastracture.
I would say it is the best place for motorcycle racing in the world.
The location, the atmosphere, everything was great.
I realy want to be there again!
P.s. The only negative was that there was too much traffic outside both when going and on leaving the track.
Shuttle buses where ok, but they disebark you 3 kilometers away from the track.

This is a complete outlet village built in a tuscan like style dedicated to shopping. You will find almost all famous brands. A lot of sitting spaces outside in the shadow is appreciated when it is hot. To complement , you have some restaurants to eat and drink. Have a bakery and a small commercial center there would be a plus.

You can find almost any store you and brand you like, with some time affordable prices and discount, some are not cheep. Personally, i wouldn't come here especially if it is not on my route to somewhere else (as we did). Feels a bit like an american mall by it's size. What an awesome old town! If you're in Vinci it worth stopping by the museum and climbing to the top of the bell tower. The view was breath taking!
Mark Price — Google review
Interesting museum with drawings of Leonardo brought to life. It was empty on the day despite being Sunday and it had a great panoramic view of the town in one of the buildings (the view's last entry is 30 mins before closing so be aware!).
Beware that you cannot touch anything in the museum which is a shame. It would be so much not interesting and educational if that would be possible. They argue that the models are art in themselves but they could have got simpler versions for exploration. Videos do not always explain enough and there is a lot of text everywhere.
The museum is definitely not for children, they would be bored.

A nice detour from the crowds of Florence, and experience the Tuscan countryside enroute.
The museum is very small, spread out over several locations, so plan to walk between buildings in the village.
Exhibits are limited, with a few small, replica models on display. Some descriptions are in Italian only, so it's recommended to download the museum App.

Very interesting, full of DeVinci's inventions, there aren't many English explanations but the fair price, amazing view (especially from the top of the second building) and beautiful replicas and models more than made up for it. Vinci (the area) itself is also stunning, more than anything I'd recommend taking a detour through the area as the views are breathtaking.

This is located in Vinci the place of this birth. Lots of well built models of his works with good written descriptions and some video and audio explanation. Was expecting a little more interactive as was given in the description. Your only need about an hour. The house has a great video but otherwise not worth your time.

Vinci hosts this distributed museum around 4 buildings: castle, palace, original home and another small painting exhibition. The core are two nice building with models of Italy creations, aided by a mobile pdf guide for foreigner and a support of virtual reality for few models. Very nice, in a small town. Worth going there to see all four together. In the castle there is also a nice panoramical tower overlooking the valley and a couple of multimedia rooms telling the story of the genius, both in Italian and English alternated. We Orth it !

This museum is in two adjacent locations, on two floors in the main part and in the Castle next door, don't forget to visit the Castle as that's where the flying machine models are. There's are lots of models of the mechanisms and machines that Da Vinci postulated and (maybe) even constructed. None of the beautiful models on display (modern historic artefacts in their own right) can actually be seen working although they obviously are constructed to function as intended by Da Vinci. This is a bit disappointing and actually quite frustrating but understandable as the models are almost too valuable to become damaged or worn out, it's very tempting to turn a handle but not allowed! To compensate there are a number of GGI animated models on nearby screens which do show the workings very well. There is also a large informative caption dedicated to the model makers and talented technicians who produced the models from the original drawings which was good to see.
In the castle there's a room which shows how the drawings, from which we know so much about his work, were made with details of ink, paper and pen methods.
There are also sections on Da Vinci's contributions to the study of anatomy, physiology and medicine.
Descriptive captions are numerous and informative in Italian and mostly translated to English with a few exceptions.
It's not a huge museum but exhibits are well presented with enough information and explanations.
The same ticket for 9 euro also gains access to the church on the same site where you can see the font that (most probably) was used in Da Vinci's christening. You can also go up to the top of the castle tower which has fantastic views of the town and the surrounding countryside.
I visited in late July 2023 in the heatwave and there was a short queue for tickets and no queue to get in. Parking outside was full up so I parked just up the road on the way out of the town, 5 minutes walk.

If you love history and one of the most historic figures who lived, the Leonardo Di Vince museum is worth the visit. The cozy town of Leonardo's birthplace, Vince, is also worth the visit in itself. The museum features models of his inventions and many of the 7000 sketches of his interests, including anatomy, motion, flight, metallurgy, painting, and sculpture. Leonardo transformed the world. He is considered one of the great geniuses of humanity, and his museum outlines this genius. The fee for just the museums, (2), is $9 EU. For $ 12 you can visit both the museums and his home birthplace.

Piazza del Duomo is the vibrant town square at the heart of Pistoia, Tuscany. It is adorned with medieval buildings and features a remarkable Romanesque cathedral dating back to the 10th century. The square is surrounded by captivating sites, creating an overwhelming artistic experience for visitors. It's recommended to explore the area leisurely as there's so much to see and appreciate in one visit.
Rocchetta Mattei is a restored 19th-century count's castle located in the Bolognese Mountains. Built by Count Cesare Mattei, it boasts a whimsical mix of Moorish, medieval, and Italian architectural styles. Visitors can explore the palace during weekend visits and enjoy concerts, exhibitions, and events. The tour provides interesting and thorough information about the history and architecture of the castle. However, some visitors feel that the guided tour is too short and strictly timed.
Beautiful architecture and a splendid collection of old musical instruments. All visits are guided, helping a lot in understanding the incredible and mysterious history of the place. Highly recommended.

A place not to miss if you happen to have some time on your hands and want to explore places around Bologna. Easily accessible by train or by car. A beautiful, masmarising palazzo. The 4/5 are due to visits enabled only with a tourguide and tickets must be booked weeks prior. The info given on the tour was interesting and thorough, with that said, it was laconic and a bit too short (1 h) and very strictly timed in order to avoid laps with other groups.. therfore no time was given to immerse in the scenery of each spot, it was stop-losten-go to next stop sort of tour... the experience could have been more powerful and worthwhile with more time and a more interactive, mindful tourguide.

Visually stimulating place in a beautiful locale, with bizarre, fantastical architecture. Be warned though; Unless you want to walk up a long, narrow country road up hill in the sun, you are intirely at the mercy of a bus service that stops about 3 times a day and not at any time that aligners with the castle's admission hours. There is also nowhere to wait once you are up there. Again, the actual place is very interesting but, unless you have a car, you NEED to plan in advance or risk bring stranded in the middle of nowhere.
