Sesimbra, a part of the Setubal district, is a destination that offers so much to visitors that it deserves its own dedicated trip. Unlike Setubal, Sesimbra is a resort town known for its beaches and seafood. While both places share a close relationship with the sea, they are quite distinct. Setubal has an industrial past that still influences it today, while Sesimbra historically attracted many locals from Lisbon seeking beach getaways.

Amazing Sunset

Went there with my girlfriend in hopes to watch a great sunset, and it did not disappoint! The place is gorgeous, with a bunch of green fields around and an amazing view of the ocean, especially at the end of the day when the sun is melting into the water! It also has a little café nearby with some nice staff. I would choose to end my days with this view anytime.

Awesome views of the ocean.
Nearby there is a sanctuary, light house and some dinosaurs footprints.
Due to its location it might get a little windy.
There is free parking lot and some places where you can get a drink and some snacks

The most amazing sunset in Portugal 🧡

Amazing place that gives you a good walk, fresh air, loads to look at and learn. The little wild flowers including wild thyme was the icing on the cake 💕

Beautiful place! It’s possible to go at night!! I’m not sure you can go in the lighthouse, but the outside is definitely lovely :)
Awesome views and must be even prettier in the morning!
The roads to get there are very dark, but it’s after a very quiet neighbourhood
Space to park is not a problem, there are also some abandoned buildings that are pretty cool!!
Worth the visit
Aline Morato — Google review
Beautiful place, abandoned monastery with amazing view. Definitely recommend going end of the day for the sunset.

A wonderful place to visit .. the views are amazing from there
bygabrielmartins — Google review
Beautiful views here...besides visiting the sanctuary or the Lagosteiros beach (very difficult access) don't miss the dinosaur footprints and tail tracks, not far away from there...try to visit on a clear not too windy day... Trekking around the Cape 😜 is definitely worth the effort of climbing up and down 😉. You will discover new amazing views with lots of history behind if you are in to it. Dinosaurs 🦕🦖🦖 set their tracks n footprints in this area over 150 million years ago... Still visible!!!
The Sanctuary of Christ the King is a Catholic statue dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ situated on the south bank of Lisbon's river. It is inspired by Brazil's famous Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro, but smaller in scale with a 92-feet tall statue standing on a 270-feet high pedestal. The monument serves as both a viewpoint and an attraction site for tourists visiting Almada.
If you visit Lisbon must take ride across bridge and what you see from here will be breathtaking. Monument and view from there is best. Ticket to go up but but this is must. Best photo opportunity here.
Subbash Patel — Google review
We came there by taxi, since it'd have taken too long with a bus. It's worth it, especially in a clear day. The view is pretty much all across the metropolitan area of Lisbon. €6 to get up with the elevator and then a staircase. The employees there are OK, not so friendly, but do their best to ensure order and answer questions in English. "God is love" is written in different languages, meaningful for those who believe, I assume.
Drew Peer — Google review
There's a public parking lot and some street parking when you go here. We didn't know until we got to the top of the hill so don't make the same mistake we did as it was quite a walk. We waited in line for a long time but the view was worth the wait. Nice view of Lisbon. Tickets are bought right before you enter (when you get to the front of the line). Adults are 8€ and it's cash only.
Lei Zervoulakos — Google review
Incredible place with spectacular view! There is an elevator and the ticket costs 8 euro. There is a convenient transport from the city center and the bus stop is only 5 minutes away.

Amazing visit every time! The view never fails us. The place and the surroundings are very clean and maintained at high standards. You buy the tickets at the special machines in front of the souvenir shop. There is also a jice cafe but there are also places where you can sit and enjoy the silence.
Nicoleta Militaru — Google review
Nice and peaceful place, worth visiting with stunning view. Ticket up to see Jesus closer is 6€. Opened from 10am easily accessible from the city center by bus. Good café just below the statue as well. Whole place is easily accessible for everybody.
Tom?? N?meth — Google review
A fun stop to make when visiting Lisbon. Admission is 6 euros for adults and 3 euros for children. They only take cash and there is no need to buy tickets in advance. There is a quick elevator ride which takes you near the top. You then climb two flights of stairs to reach the observation deck which has some amazing views. Upon leaving the observation deck you literally must exit through a gift shop just underneath the statue. There are at least two chapels on site.
Ken Weary — Google review
Spectacular monument!! We didn’t go to the top but a nice area where you can walk on the grounds and have a fantastic view of Lisbon! Would definitely recommend visiting even for an hour or so. Toilets are clean. We took the bus 753 and walked for 12minutes to get there but you can get the ferry over which is quicker.
Y Rose — Google review
Very nice place. The surrounding area around the statue is very nice as well. There is also a store where to buy food, hot drinks, or snacks. The view even from the square under the statue is nice and Lisbon looks just different. Worth visiting and waiting in that long Que for the elevator to the top of the statue. Thank you🤩
Ales Tvrdy — Google review
Very good place! The Christ is very nice and in general the whole place is beautiful. I believe going up to the christ statue is not worth it because you would get to have the same views from the ground floor. The view of Lisbon is astonishing, it may be a bit far from the city but if you have time go for it!

Aitor Bal — Google review
This place was super cool! I was reading some of the history of it and it was inspired by the bigger statue in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The Portuguese built this because they were thankful that God spared Portugal during WW2.
you get a breath taking view of Lisbon. And if you choose to go to the top of the statue, it's $8 euro per person and it's cash only.
Anna He — Google review
Very easy and cheap to get to from central Lisbon. The ferry is frequent, as is the bus on the other side. The statue with its huge plinth is very imposing, though, from close quarters at any rate, not such as to inspire devotion (not in me, anyway!). Really, the most impressive aspect is the amazing view. Access is reasonable, though there are a lot of stairs to climb. There are toilets close by and a nice cafe with plenty of seating in the shade.
Get there early to avoid the crowds.
Julian Griffiths — Google review
Cristo Rei is an amazing statue in Lisbon. It's really tall and you can see the whole city from there. Inside, it's pretty and calm, and there's a cool history to learn about.
You can easily get there by car or bus. Take the elevator to the top for the best views.
Kinan Rostom — Google review
Such a stunning place. You don't realise how large it is from across the river. It is on the hill so it's a hard walk up. There are buses up that stop just outside. I recommend going up the lift as the views are amazing.
Em's — Google review
If its the first time visiting Portugal you should go to this monument! The view is astonishing. It takes a 30 min travel by bus to the area of the monument. And you need a ticket to get to the final level of the statue.
Athina Maniadi — Google review
You'll get fantastic views and, if the weather is good, great photos if you make it to the top. It's worth going at opening time, as you can take your time looking around. Remember, if you've been shopping in the gift shop, you can't take the lift down straight away, you'll have to queue and wait an extra 20 minutes...
Sándor Kerekes — Google review
It was pretty a lOng but beautiful journey to reach here. We came by bus and enjoyed the view of the bridge. You can also reach there by taxi or even a fairy. It was a stormy and rainy day, and this is the reason for not seeing too many people there. We did not go up for the upper view as down there. The view was amazing. It's just that if there were more cafes or restaurants around this monument, it would be great. The road which leads to this moment is not also very delightful, and I suppose they have forgotten to make some effort for this part of Lisbon. Otherwise, we enjoyed our short visit there and were happy to see this monument.
Hanna Afshar — Google review
Honestly, it's not worth it. The views from the viewing platform are great, but it with the constant queueing (for the tickets, then for the lift, them to exit via the gift shop and finally for the lift again). Something that could take 5/10 minutes takes around an hour. And that's from an afternoon visit in February. I can't imagine the hell it would be if busy

Phenomenal structure dedicated to the Christian faith, that is located near the water and overlooks the beautiful bridge that goes into the main city of Lisbon.
Tickets are 8 euros and well worth the price. The tickets are easy to get in the bottom floor office and there is a small cafe and gift shop outside.
The elevator is a great addition to the structure. There are a few more steps after the elevator ride that you need to be aware of. You can take pictures from the very top and you have a 360 view of all that Lisboa had to offer and gaze upon.
Frankie Hinds — Google review
Superb place with a great view. You can have a look at the bridge which connects east and west Lisbon and far away the Atlantic Ocean. It was so windy that one can find it difficult to hold a mobile for taking pictures. For further great view one can go to the top by shelling 8 euros. Ample of parking space available with a cafeteria serving great coffee.

Great journey using public transport of ferry and bus. Fabulous place. Lovely gardens to walk around.
Didn't go up because the queue was very long. However the views are incredible and a lovely peaceful atmosphere in the gardens.
Tamara Harrison — Google review
Great views, we got a tuk tuk from the ferry terminal as no buses were running. It takes quite a while to get access to the lifts but the views are worth it
Long sandy beach with rocky areas & sun shades, backed by accommodation & restaurants.
A little paradise, cannot wait summer !

Good beach. Hotel could do some cleaning of the litter that gets washed up on shore but otherwise it's easy to get to and relatively quiet.
Shannon Hayes — Google review
One of my favorite beaches in Lisbon area, beautiful views, good infrastructure in the season (out of season unfortunately public toilet is closed, the same with beach bars, but there is plenty of bars and restaurants nearby).
Łukasz Matuszewski — Google review
there are some walls next to the beach that can help you getting out of the sun if that's your intention
also, if you want to buy merch there, you will find bola de Berlim as usual plus accessories handmade - do not worry about searching for them cause they keep walking around the beach selling the merch
if you live in Lisbon, there is a bus that leaves Sete Rios and stop at a 10min walk from the beach, it's the 3435
you will find restaurants nearby but I haven't tried any of these cause I brought my own food to the beach (which is allowed)

Just a lovely beach! We went early so it was nıot very crowded. There are many parking spots near the beach and if you want you can rent an umbrella. The water was just perfect and the beach was very clean. There are no showers so you should come prepared for that.

It is an amazing place, really touristic, different shops and market for to buy any kind of food with good prices, I bought a cold cane of tea for only 85cent.
The sea it is so clean and clear that even the water it is cold, looks like amazing for to swim in.
Salvatore Pisanu — Google review
This beach is very beautiful and calm. I stayed more than a month in an apartment in front of the beach and I could see dolphins, and other sea animals that I can't identify. On the balcony of my apartment there was a very beautiful genet, but I didn't have time to take pictures. There are many restaurants by the beach and the historic center is very pleasant to walk around. The sunset on the beach is very beautiful.
Kelly Tozarin Damasceno — Google review
Calm waters, really beautiful but usually very full... It has all the amenities you need, it's fairly easy to park either in the hotel park or the outside park behind it. You can always get a space in one of the concessions but if you don't want that just keep walking until you reach the end of the beach, you'll usually find a spot there.
Pedro Pereira — Google review
The beach is beautiful, with great restaurants. However, it is very crowded and unfortunately there are not enough parking spaces for the number of people there.

All round amazing place. Beautiful blue sea lovely sandy beach, and restaurants all around and all just an hour south of Lisbon!
Was booked as part of an excursion from TripAdvisor (again highly recommend) nd we arrived before midday. There were still a number of people so would recommend getting early. There were a number of people doing activities including kayaking, swimming, fishing, snorkeling and more.
Highly recommend to any other tourists visiting Lisbon.
Sizable outlet center with upscale boutiques, shoe stores & gift shops, plus restaurants & cafes.
Almost like a half day tour it is in the outskirts of the city. Have some budget shopping options like Primark as well along with the big brands. Look for discounts in the stores like Nike, Adidas here. They are well sold here. Have good play area for kids, restrooms and food options.

This Freeport Fashion Outlet is a good place for buying some of considerable clothing brands. Prices are competitive with normal shopping center. The area is good for walking in sunny days but in rainy days may be its not a best choice. From Lisbon you may go by private vehicle or by public transports. There is a plenty area of parking. There are bus and taxi to this place. The facilities are good. Very clean bathrooms. Accessable for people with disabilities. There are cafe, restaurants, and snack bars. The gas station is close to area.

Lovely shopping center, with a good variety of stores for fashion, amongst others. Friendly atmosphere, store service too. Many places to sit down to take a break if you like. All seems well taken care of. To save time, I traveled by Uber, which took less than half an hour, as opposed to two hours twenty-five minutes by public transport. Taking an Uber from the north of Lisbon cost me just 15 euros, but going back was 28 euros. It must be that it's a remote place and Ubers are not as plentiful at hand. Take this in account. It's still worth it very much.

Good brands.
Family-friendly place.
It's better to be in summer, as it's an open-air flat mall.
Praia Tróia Mar is a stunning beach located on the Troia Peninsula, just a ferry ride away from Setubal. This paradisiacal destination offers calm and transparent waters, soft white sands, and an 18km long coastline to explore. The microclimate of the area allows for enjoyable visits throughout the year, with plenty of activities to indulge in. Praia Tróia Mar is described as picturesque and family-friendly, offering miles of beautiful beaches to explore.
Very beautiful and large stand on a headland. At low tide you can walk far into the sea. Troia is easily reached via the very frequent catamaran or ferry services of Atlantic Ferries from Setubal. We came from the south and took the very to Setubal. The beaches were empty due to Covid lockdown in Portugal and low season, but it was still amazing and worth a visit!

Incredible beach— can’t say enough good things about it! My family and I absolutely adore it.
We’ve been staying in Setúbal for the past week, and we’ve been visiting this beach almost every day. The beach takes a bit of work to get to, but it’s absolutely worth it. The ferry from Setúbal to Tróia is €26.40 for 3 people. It’s a 12-15 minute ride, and it’s a lovely experience. The views are gorgeous, and I’d recommend taking the 7:30 pm ferry back to Setúbal to catch the sunset. Once you arrive on the peninsula, you walk about 20-25 minutes along a wooden boardwalk to reach the beach. It’s a picturesque walk, and you get to pass a outdoor cat colony. The cats are so sweet, and they appear to be cared for by the locals.
The beach is magnificent. There was a warm breeze every day we were there, which kept the flies away. The sand is so soft and sparkly and not too hot. For context, we are visiting in late September. The water is cold, but you can definitely acclimate. It’s so blue, clear, and clean. At low tide, there are amazing sand bars, and you can walk pretty far out. I was also able to collect some gorgeous shells. Finally, there are ample trash cans and a clean bathroom. This beach as everything I want in a beach. I truly adore it.

Troia Beach is located in the Troia Peninsula, which is a sandy strip of land that extends along the coast of Portugal. It is a popular destination for tourists because of its beautiful beaches and clear waters. Praia Troia Mar is one of the main beaches in the area and is known for its wide stretch of sand, calm waters, and scenic views. Visitors can also enjoy a range of water sports and outdoor activities, such as windsurfing, kayaking, and hiking.
Overall, Troia Beach is a great destination for those seeking a relaxing and scenic getaway. However, as with any location, individual experiences and opinions may vary. It is always a good idea to research and read reviews from multiple sources to get a well-rounded understanding of a destination before making travel plans.

Wonderful beach. To get there you can catch the Fertagus in Lisbon until Setúbal (final stop). Then you can walk for 10-15 minutes until Atlantic Ferry stop where you catch the boat to Troia. The whole trip lasts 75 to 80 minutes. Totally worth it! A few hours after midday there's a low tide as well so you are able to walk to the other side of the bay which is pretty cool.
Mercado do Livramento is a vibrant indoor market that has been in operation for 140 years. It boasts an impressive range of locally-grown produce such as seasonal fruits, vegetables and olives, as well as fresh fish and meat. The bustling atmosphere makes it the perfect place to experience the local culture. Visitors can also enjoy Oysters with sparkling wine and marvel at over 6000 Azulejos ceramic tile panels on display. Additionally, there are several restaurants available including a vegan option.
It was quite interesting for us - tourists to come to see real “choco” and other fresh fish. Also there is a woman who gives you the champagne shot together with oyster 🦪 for 1€ each. I was a bit sceptical as looks like it’s fresh but not very clean everywhere. However no stomachache or something- just a pure pleasure of trying something so fresh

This is an absolute must see in Setubal and I actually make a point of coming to visit even if I’m staying in Lisbon. My favourite day to go is a Saturday. It is busy but the food is fresh and amazing and the whole vibe of the market is fantastic.

Wonderful traditional coveted market with several dozen vendors. Lots of fresh fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, flowers, nuts, olives, bread, pastries, and more. Several restaurants also operate from the market. Open every day until 2:00 pm, Tuesday through Sunday.

One of the world best live market. Very hygienic and closed on Monday. The entry is free. Your body temperature will be checked. Its not such a good place for breakfast but great place to buy breads and fish. You'll be surprised to see the fresh fish catch. The visual treat to see the product and curing of the fish. Nice experience to hear local stories and get great deals on groceries.

If you're in Setúbal for a day or a week: do visit the fresh market.
In the main entrance you're welcomed by stunning azulejos (blue painted tiles that depict a scene). Then you arrive at the vegetables and cheese area with butchers in their shops at the side of the hall. Plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, olives, bakery products and more.
The second part of the hall is taken by the fish mongers and is especially spectacular due to the many fish at display. From little sardines to huge swordfish, you're going to see them all over here.
Afterward you can enjoy a coffee or a glass of Moscatel in the bar at the side of this wonderful market that already exists for more than 160 years.

Place to experience the local tastes - seafood, cheeses, meats, fruits, etc.
Beautiful Portugal title art before entering market.
For fresh fishes be sure to be there in the morning till 12.00.

A 140 years old lively indoor market offering from seasonal fruits, olives and other locally-grown foodstuffs-vegetables to fish - meat - pretty much anything one can think of. Fresh fish from the fishermen's boats arrive here each day. It's best to get here early morning for the best selection! One can enjoy the liveliest atmosphere as well as Oyester with sparkling wine. The place also exhibits some of the great piece of Azulejos (a panel with over 6000), the Art of Ceramic Tiles of Portugal. It also offers a few restaurants including the vegan one.

The oyster counter was f a b u l o u s ! Ignore all these /ignorant/ people - sorry, pun intended - who say it's not clean etc. Oysters opened in front of you cannot be spoiled. They are 200% fresh and delicious. The market itself is very clean, it smells of the fresh fish only. They also sell a huge tuna

A really colorful and vibrant Mercado with lots of variety. If you are looking for fresh fruits, cheese, breads, meats and seafood then this is a one stop market. You know it’s a good sign when it’s 90% locals who shop here. If I lived in Setubal I would definitely buy my produce and meats here.

This place was awesome. Huge with lots of vendors. They have tons of fish vendors, we were cooking so didn’t go that route. Did get some great cured meats, fresh bread and some dope goat/sheep cheese. Also grabbed a bottle of wine from the little shop that had cold greens and whites. Perfect spot to hit on the way to the beach for ready to eat food. Even better if you are staying there and wanted to cook.

Whenever you visit a country or city, local markets tell you the most about the local culture. The market in Setubal is in a beautiful old hall with a great variety of products, from local fish to cheese, vegetables, fruits, broidery, etc. Worth visiting!

This was a must-visit for us at the start of our 5 day stay in Setubal. Cheeses, meats, and especially shrimp and sardines were on our list. What a great experience. Highly recommended for shopping and even just sight seeing.

Wow, wow, and more wow. Super quality products from fresh fish and meat sellers, incredible fruit and veg, artisan breads, farmhouse cheeses and some lovely speciality stalls, all set in the most beautifully tiled market house. Take a wander as morsels are offered from lively stall holders. It opens early and gets a real buzz by mid morning. Often toted as one of the very best local produce markets in the world. Hard to disagree!

Beautiful and historic market. This was the first place we visited in Setúbal, and it really set the tone. Produce is fresh, local, and delicious. Vendors were kind, fair, and willing to work through the language barrier. Prices were really affordable too. Highly suggest a visit if you’re in town!
Praia do Pego is a stunning and expansive beach known for its long sandy stretch, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The beach offers palapa parasols, a bar-restaurant, and ample space to relax. It's less crowded than some nearby beaches and can be a bit windy at times, making it perfect for windsurfing and kiteboarding. Visitors can enjoy the clear water, clean sand, and the option of renting sunbeds or bringing their own umbrella.
a bit less crowded than carvalhal beach
- beautiful beach
a bit windy (end of july)
- sundbeds and loungers pricey (80 euros a day for a sunbed!)
- bring your own umbrella and be on the beach
- nice and clean toilet
- beachbar for food and drinks
- parking 5 euros

Used to be almost empty 3 years ago. Thanks to the restaurant now it’s really crowded. Lot’s of families, screaming kids, noisy adulta… There are many other beaches were you can find peace and noiseless moments to relax.

Only for the posh!!
Don’t come here unless you are posh and have a “heavy wallet”.
Also you can’t park a small van in the parking next to the beach. Hilarious.
Fortunately you can still find nice beaches not flooded by the rich where you don’t have to put your towel far away from them not to ruin their expensive view.

Very nice beach. Went there in one of those summer months and could still find a good spot, not crowded. In terms of parking, it's hard to find a good free place nearby, but there is a parking lot paid but cheap (around 2 euros for the whole day). Water is cold, the sand is very soft and clear.

An experience for all the senses and one of the best experiences I remember. At the level of the best hotels in the world.

My family and I stayed here for two nights. I’ve been to many five star hotels and resorts all over the world and I have to say, Sublime has to be amongst my top favourites. I honestly couldn’t fault a single thing. Everything was amazing, from the breakfast, rooms, staff, facilities etc to the small touches. It has such a wonderful atmosphere, like nowhere else. You really feel as if you’re in a home away from home, in an oasis. One member of our party also had a special request for dinner, something that even wasn’t on the menu and they happily catered to her with a smile. I couldn’t recommend Sublime more highly and we’ll definitely be back again soon!

Great experience. Excellent Service. Beautiful setting, remote though. Great breakfast! Delicious local oysters for dinner.
Cool vibe but a a bit cold though! The rooms are located in villas. But not all have access to the villa’s common rooms, which leaves you to the common areas in the lobby area which are unfortunately quite cold and drafty. You need a warm sweater in this 5 Star hotel.

An absolute oasis in Comporta. One of the most serene resorts you’ll ever enjoy. The food and service are equally outstanding. The bio pool cottages are ideal for two people.
John Shegda — Google review
My overall experience was okay up until I had a family emergency. ‘Providing peace, tranquility and nurturing guests’ is an important aspect of the experience not only when times are good but is even more important when times are bad. Unfortunately I got some bad news whilst staying there in my first day that my father has a sudden heart attack with the potential of death in the next few hours. It was absolutely pivotal I was to fly back to london as quickly as possible and as you can imagine I was in shock and extremely stressed, but I feel like the FOH staff were not compassionate and not understanding of my situation or of my well being at the time. The only concern was to ensure I pay all bills. I only stayed one night of the three nights and there wasn’t any consideration to reduce or subsidise my final payment. As you can imagine this was my last concern but I was being slightly pestered to resolve this. I understand policy but emergency circumstances need to be dealt with humanity, care, understanding and compassion. I did not receive this and I felt very let down by the FOH team who only cared about money. I also had a terrible nights sleep due to frog noises in the night, when I asked to upgrade to the bio pool room I was not made aware of this. I also called the reception in the middle of the night to ask for ear plugs and I was told I had to wait util 6am due to lack of staff and I eventually received them at 2/3pm after asking three or four times throughout the morning.I ended up paying for 3 nights, and stayed for one very uncomfortable night. My lack of sleep that night did not help the extremely stressful day I was about to unexpectedly experience. I see massive potential here and it missed the human touch of empathy and compassion! Paid for 3 nights and ended up staying for one! :(

Gem of a hotel situated just 10 minutes from the beach. Innovative biopool suites with veranda access. Several good restaurants with Tiger prawns the choice of the menu ! Staff eager and helpful. The hotel operates a complimentary beach shuttle every hour or so. If you need more independence or want to explore a hire car is a must. Comporta the nearest town (15 min drive ) is clearly up and coming with an interesting little market and plenty of land development businesses !

Booked Sublime with my fiancé for our final night in Portugal - we had traveled down to the algarve, and needed somewhere closer to Lisbon to make our transit to the airport for a flight departing at 10am more feasible. I am so thankful I stumbled across Sublime - the property is stunning - gorgeous greenery, thoughtful additions like fresh herb plants around the lawns, and gorgeously curated decor. Our room (the owner suite) was impeccable - I’ve never stayed somewhere so nice. My only caution is the restaurant is very expensive and food sub par. Overall, recommend for a treat yourself stay. I wish we had more time to thoroughly enjoy our stay as we had to depart at 5am.

Spa experience was really good. My husband who rarely agrees to having a massage loved the deep tissue massage by Angela and my Sports massage by Jose was one of the best Ive ever had. I’m a Physiotherapist and I really appreciated the wonderful setting, Spa and skills of Jose. Worth the price tag. All other staff in Spa were so kind too.

We arrived and it felt like a 5 star experience and we were very excited. The main issue with our experience was there was not a lot to do there. We went in November, so it was off season. I think the resort could let people know that the town is a ghost town in the winter. Literally it's shut down. Only 1 of the 4 restaurants is open in the off-season. The resort itself is mostly villas and the main lodge. There is a nice gym
The spa is lacking a bit. There is a small pool, a 2-3 person sauna and steam room, and a hot tub. If the spa was exceptional, it would make sense to go in the winter in my opinion.
All of this said, I'm sure it's lovely in the summer.

We just stay for 3 days at Sublime and we will be back for a full week within the next few months. The resort and the vibes are great but the staff made a massive difference. From our great Brazilian host when we checked in, to the concierge always available to help, the sense of details / small attention of Mohamed's and his housekeeping team, the spot on recommendations of the sommelier, and basically all the restaurant & beach waiters, the Sublime team has been fantastic. We will remember their kindness to our little one.
We can only recommend anyone visiting Comporta to stay at this place!

We had hired a horse ride with your company and we arrived punctually at the facilities. On our arrival we had to sign a paper in which it stated that your company was not responsible for absolutely anything that happened during the activity, something that I have never seen before and made us doubt whether it would be a safe ride. It was informed that our level was medium (simple gallop and trot) but nothing really fancy, something that we repeated when they asked us when we arrived.
The tour started and our guide Thyago was not friendly at all, he came with a dog to the activity (something that is normally not recommended when you have horses involved) and he basically didn't pay much attention to us. We ended up on the beach and Thyago let us alone while he was training his horse (he must have been following us while giving guidance) and my wife lost control of his horse and got really scared. We informed Thyago, who didn't even notice, and he started shouting at us while making hand gestures, telling us it was our fault because he had expected another level. On the way back we all went in silence due to the shouting, which made the experience really unpleasant.
It was a really bad experience, badly managed by the tour guide whose ways were disrespectful. The whole experience ruined our day, which we paid over 200 euros (not cheap).
Hopefully this email and our reviews on several platforms make your company rectify and prevent this from happening to other people.

I've wanted to try horseback riding for a long time never having done it. Coming to Portugal on holidays i thought it would be a perfect place to have that experience. I booked. When I arrived I was greeted by Felipa who was my guide and instructor. Being a first time rider she took her time introducing the horse, doing some safety reviews, and showing me the basics. Taking me on an hour and half ride through specatcular trails and along the beautiful beach. I could not have asked for a better guide or views as she was interactive and constantly checking to see if i was enjoying myself. By far one of the best experiences I've had where I felt safe, excited, and it fullfilled the wish. I will definately repeat when i return and recommend to family and friends. 5⭐️

The winery Monte da Ravasqueira is a beautiful place to visit with interesting wine-making and tour options. The antique carriages are a nice surprise, and the hosts are friendly and informative. The wine tasting room is beautiful, with a fireplace, hostess who provides delicious lunch, and lovely wines to taste. It's worth visiting if you're in the area!
Ines and Diogo in the Wine tasting shop are excellent guides.
We spent 90 minutes getting introduced to the winery and then tasting several excellent wines.
Then we spent 30 minutes in a very fun and engaging dialog about travel, including several areas of Portugal, Italy, France, parts of the U. S., etc. All delightful. Lovely people.

A wonderfully relaxed tour with old carriages and a vineyard finishing with a wine tasting. The lovely multilingual lady running the tour (whose name I missed unfortunately) was suitably informed on all aspects that I expressed curiosity for. She also recommended the correct restaurants in Arraiolos. I visited in February, so it was quiet and the vineyard itself had no leaves, but it was still very worthwhile.

This estate is a staggering 7,000 plus acres and has been owned by the same family since shorty after WW2. The family is one of the wealthiest in Portugal. This property was their summer estate where they groomed horses for a long time before the current generation decided to turn it into a winery. We arrived by car and found ample parking. We had a wonderful private tour of the estate. Our guide was knowledgeable and allowed us to not only explore the facility to be be educated into the process of turning grapes into wine. We walked from the tasting room to the fermenting facility which from a distance looked like old buildings but were in fact newer building made to look old. Inside we wondered along the gantries and looked down on the large stainless steel vats where the grapes are crushed and the wine starts its first fermenting in large stainless steel tanks. We then explored the storage room where a certain amount of wine destined for a vintage label are stored in oak barrels. We were allowed to have a peek into the bottling room where modern machinery fills and labels the bottles. The fields are labeled with Portuguese Ceramic tile signs that identify the type of grape grown there. Heading back to the tasting room we passed the private residence of the family which is still in use today. Along the way we popped into a building which forms the museum of antique carriages collected over the years by the original owner of the property. Carriages for the 1700 look as they did in the period. They have not been rebuild or reupholstered. The collection is very interesting even if your not into carriages. Just the array of the transportation of the pre-automobile era over the centuries is fascinating. We spent some time in front of a unique and rather large carriage that was once owned by the famous car designer Bugatti himself. From the museum we moved on to the wine tasting. The tasting comes with a fee depending on what you want to taste. In the end we discovered that the wine we liked is only $6 more at home in North America as the price the winery was charging. This was surprising and frankly, disappointing. One would expect the price to far less than the full retail half a world away. In the end we did not buy any wine. However, we decided to try a bottle of their champagne or Spumante as they call it because the can not use the Champagne name. We brought it home and look forward to opening it. The property also has a restaurant which requires a reservation in advance. If your in the area, its worth a tour.

Beautiful property and winery. Out-of-the-ordinary because of the collection of antique carriages that visitors can see on the guided tour. Beautiful wine tasting room, interesting tour of wine-making, delicious lunch – and wine – in yet another beautiful room (with a fireplace), hosted by smiling, friendly Carlos. Teresa, our guide for the winery tour was informative, knowledgeable, nice and – when we told her we did not have a car – drove us in her car (weather was awful for walking). Worth a visit!

A place not to be missed if you around! We had an amazing tour, getting to know a lot of facts around vineyards and the family history - big thanks to Tereza (if I remember right name). After we had an unforgettable lunch and wine tasting - we really enjoyed this stay, thanks and continue what you doing because you are great, thanks!

Surprising store of beautiful old horse-drawn carriages as a bonus.

The estate is beautiful — and impressive! We toured Monte da Ravasqueira in February, so the grapes weren’t growing yet. The vineyards stretch out in all directions and we were led through them to the processing plant, which itself was impressively large. Production wasn’t taking place since it was Sunday, but it was still interesting to see. We also visited the on-site carriage museum, with horse-drawn carriages dating back to the 18th Century. I never thought I’d need to see that, but am surprisingly glad I did! And, finally, we did a wine tasting of six of their excellent (and affordable) wines.
Praça do Giraldo is a serene and peaceful paved square that boasts a stunning fountain from the 1500s, charming terraced cafes, and striking Gothic-style buildings. The architecture in this area is truly remarkable, with unique designs that capture the eye's attention. Visitors can enjoy their time in this historical place while taking in the captivating scenery and atmosphere of the square. It's a fantastic spot to relax, unwind and soak up Portugal's rich cultural heritage.

From other reviews we were expecting these Roman Baths to be difficult to find but once you have identified the building - the town hall - the receptionist pointed us in the direction of the baths and gave us an explanatory leaflet that was in English as well as Portuguese. The baths are interesting as much for their situation in the middle of the building, you can see offices through windows around them, as for the construction of the baths. The bath is a 9 m circular bath with steps like a jacuzzi and there are some remains from the furnace too. It isn't worth going out of your way for but if you are passing Monday to Friday in office hours then pop in and see.

Cool but not much information given on it. If in Evora check it out but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come see it.

I strongly recommend paying these a visit. They are located in the town hall and I suggest having a look around and picking up a free guide pamphlet. They are free to see and are quite interesting.
Be aware that there is a limited amount on show and limited information to take in, so expect only a 10 minute visit.

Inside the town hall you can visit an archeological discovery, the ruins of a Roman bath. From the ground level separated by glass you can see the bath that is located beneath the current ground level, quite impressive.

The Chapel of Bones in Évora, housed within the Church of St. Francis, is a peculiar tourist spot adorned with the skeletal remains of more than 5,000 monks. These bones were exhumed from nearby cemeteries to create space for additional burials. The walls of this small 16th-century chapel are lined with skulls and body parts in an eerie display that fascinates visitors.
Sure, it’s a little macabre, but the history and uniqueness is worth the trip. The story about why the bones were used, the poem within, and the inscription above the door are beautiful. It’s a fairly small room, especially considering it’s supposedly made up of 5,000 corpses, and most people were in-and-out in less than 5 minutes. The entrance fee is €5, cash or card, and includes some other artifacts, a nativity museum upstairs, and a nice view of the town from the balcony.

A Unique and Thought-Provoking Experience.
Capela dos Os Capela dos Ossos, also known as the Chapel of Bones, is a truly captivating and thought-provoking site. The chapel, adorned with human bones and skulls, offers a glimpse into the fascinating history and mortality of humanity. The atmosphere inside is solemn and eerie, yet it serves as a powerful reminder of our own impermanence. The intricate bone displays and macabre architecture make for a hauntingly beautiful sight. While it may not be for the faint of heart, Capela dos Ossos is an extraordinary and unforgettable attraction, providing a unique perspective on life and death. Highly recommended for those seeking an unconventional and contemplative experience.
Shajo Sebastian — Google review
The Chapel of Bones itself is very small. It is a single room where most people will spend 5 minutes. It's fascinating and a grim reminder of everyone's mortality.
For the entrance fee, this chapel alone wouldn't be worth it, but the fee also allows access to other areas and displays throughout the church, including hundreds of nativity scenes from around the world, and a small museum with artifacts. My family and I spent an hour or two in these other areas, and we felt it was very much worthwhile for both the time and the entrance fee.
Jeff Eng — Google review
I was expecting something bigger to be honest. The price is a bit high for something that takes you 5min to see. You have access to a small museum though, to the rooftop of the church and to temporary exhibitions (it was the nativity represented around the world when I visited).
Ticket is 5e for adults, 3.5 for students. You can pay by card only from 10e.

A simply amazing place in Évora! Definitely, a must on the list of any traveler. The chapel is beyond impressive and it's unique. The pictures speak for themselves. If you have an issue with seeing bones and death, heads up, there are also mummies exposed there and there are bones all over the walls.
Ana Maria — Google review
What a interesting place to visit. Literally a chapel built with the remains of thousands plastered into the walls a a memorial to how short life is. History shows a church founded by the Franciscans in 1200. The nativity’s from around the world were a sight to see.

It is an interesting place to visit in Evora, it definitely is something different I have not seen anywhere else. The Chapel of Bones is a small chapel built with bones and skulls on the columns and on the walls all around.
Visiting the Chapel gives a good reminder about the fact that everything is temporary and the explanations in the chapel help give more context about it.
When we visited there were also two mummies of a dad and a son. Included in the ticket you also have an exhibition about the Nativity around the world.
Overall I would say that this is an interesting site and definitely if you are in Evora I would recommend stopping by.

Not recommended for children who are too young. This is a chapel with bones from 5000 people adorning the walls and columns. Part of the museum tour with ticket cost Euro 6.
A unique experience.

Everywhere there is written that’s an unmissable spot and.. couldn’t agree more! The inscription at the entrance gives already chills. And the interiors are really ground for reflection about life and death. Beautiful in a creepy way. Definitely take the time to go and visit it.

The Capela dos Ossos is one of the most visited places in Evora. For me, It was a mix of feelings, scary and impressive. It was built by Franciscan monks. An estimated 5,000 corpses were exhumed to decorate the walls of the chapel. The bones, which came from ordinary people who were buried in Évora's medieval cemeteries, were arranged by the Franciscans in a variety of patterns

Expected more but it’s different then anything I have ever seen. I can’t believe they actually used human bones in the making of this chapel. Some of the artifacts like the picture of the cup are over 1,000 years old. The history in these old countries never ceases to amaze me.

The ticket cost around 6 euros per person including the museum and the Chapel of Bones. It's quite an experience to see the master mind of architecture of the chapel using real human bones. (If you are a sensitive person, it might be overwhelming).
The museum contains valuable historic paintings and statues of the Catholic church history.

Apart from the bone chapel - which is interesting enough - the rest of the museum has a very cheerful nativity exposition which is really enjoyable. The terrace also has a nice view over Evora. The adjacent church is beautiful (free entrance).

A provoking chapel with bones and skulls all over the walls and pillars. This is an encredible place and is really thought provoking. Besides skulls and bones on the walls there are also two mummies in the chapel. The roof of the chapel is also beautifully decorated. The entrance to the Chapel of Bones and the museum is just 6 euros and is well worth it, there was practically no wait for the tickets. When we visited it was a bit busy but at some times calm. Besides this you also have access to the museum with Christian paintings/religious art and many nativity scenes.

The Chapel of Bones, Evora Portugal is a truly unique and fascinating spot, unlike any other religious building you are likely to encounter. Imagine stepping into a small chapel, every surface intricately decorated with thousands of human bones and sculls. Sculls stare down from the vault above, femurs form arches and ribs line the walls crating a macabre yet oddly beautiful mosaic. Visiting the Chapel of Bones is a thought provoking experience. It’s a powerful reminder of our own mortality and encourages contemplation on life, death, and the eternal cycle of existence.

An amazingly interesting site! The bone chapel is just a small part of the entire property. I believe it was €10, which for us, was worth it! It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before!! We purchased tickets on site and there was no wait during a weekend at in June.

One of my favourite monuments in Portugal, a grim yet beautiful reminder of our mortality. The entry includes visiting the museum, which is also reccomend for both its historic religious pieces and their collection of nativity scenes from all over
David Henrique Carneiro Belga — Google review
Amazing experience coming to see the chapel of the bones. A bit macabre for sure, but the Franciscan monks in the 16th century thought this was appropriate since the local cemeteries were being reclaimed and they were trying to save the bones.
The Evora Roman Temple is a religious and archaeological site in Évora, Portugal that was built in honor of Augustus, the first Roman Emperor. The ruins date back to the 2nd or 3rd century AD and are among the best-preserved Roman monuments in Portugal. Some archaeologists believe it may have been dedicated to Julius Caesar.
Beautiful temple ruins in a gorgeous park. Could not recommend it more!

Lots of history in this city. Chapel of bones was interesting as well as seeing their old water system that ran through the city, as well as cathedrals.
Linda Franco — Google review
While it's very impressive to see the remains of this ancient temple still standing 2,000 years after it was built, there's not much to it. It's just this structure. Don't get me wrong, I love the town of Evora. It is adorable, but the temple alone is not that impressive.
Ken Weary — Google review
Very iconic but, in total honesty, not much is left of it. Can't match other Roman ruins of bigger dimension and better preserved. Still, a powerful landmark in a lovely ancient city.
Jorge Bernardo — Google review
Beautiful ruins of the Roman temple which are located close to the city centre and Evora Cathedral. There is a small outside cafe near to it if you would like to relax nearby.
What is missing? History and story behind this monument. There is a small board with information that it was built about 2,000 years ago and most probably was dedicated to the Roman goddess Diana. But these few details are not enough to submerge yourself more into this city thousands of years ago and feel it’s atmosphere. I think there could have been more information on how the city looked like back then, what was the life like, who were the citizens? Why the Cathedral was built so close to the Temple? Unfortunately, I stayed with too many unanswered questions (leaving me a bit annoyed and unsatisfied because I couldn’t find more information online 🤓)

The ruins are very beautiful and makes you think about our culture and heritage a lot. There's a park around it and also a little café which pairs up nicely, you can stop for a refreshing drink and enjoy the view. Nothing really that much to see since the ruins are pretty high and you can't get that close up, but overall a nice place for some pics.

Beautiful Roman ancient ruine in the middle of the Évora. The history of the monument is also interesting, if was used as a castle tower and later as a slaughter house. The current state of the ruine of the temple is nice. You can see the entrance to the altar. You cannot enter the temple.

Largo do Conde de Vila Flor, 7000-863 Évora, Portugal
Built in 1746, this renowned Catholic cathedral in Évora offers stunning city vistas from its tower. The Cathedral of Évora, which took over a century to complete, showcases an amalgamation of architectural styles including Romantic, Gothic, and Baroque. Noteworthy features on the frontage include two grand medieval towers and an impressive portal adorned with exquisite sculptures of apostles.
The price is 3.50euro for the tower and the cathedral (there’s no student ticket and only cash). The view is really nice on the roof but you need to climb some very steep stairs. I will recommend to visit this place and enjoy the view. Also inside the cathedral is also beautiful.

You have different tickets going from 3 to 5 euros depending on which part you wanna visit. I visited the cloister (lower and upper level), the cathedral, and the rooftop. View is amazing since you have a full view of Evora. Tickets were cheap. The stairs were too narrow. There's only one tower where you can use the stairs to go up and down. You won't be able to go upstairs while someone else is coming downstairs. There're many souvenirs machines where you insert money or pay by visa to get a coin where the cathedral is printed on it. I liked my silver coin a lot. I also liked that there's a passage that makes you feel like you're at Hogwarts

Worth the visit both inside and outside. A must for Gothic lovers but you will find Renaissance and baroque too inside those old walls. The view from the terrace is beautiful and the museum has a nice collection of religious art.

Loved it. HINTS-Give yourself time to see it all - they start turning off the lights in the Treasury 15-20 mins before closing. You are expected to be OUT by closing time. Also, there are many narrow stairs and some very steep spiral staircase. Keep in mind that people have to go up and down some of the same sections so it can get backed up waiting for slow people or just waiting for your turn.
Great views.

A visit to this cathedral is a must when visiting Evora. While the cathedral is nice, ir's not something extrordinary. Instead a visit to the roof is an adventure on itself as the winding stairs go up and diwn at the same tome, but can only acompany either of that. Wriggling to get through is the only option.
Atop thd view of the old city is great.
Second stop was the cloister where you also can ascend to that roof. This time it's oneway only. The view from this roof at the cathedral is amazing.

Somewhat modest if compared with other cathedrals throughout Europe, it is, nonetheless, very interesting and worth a visit, with the bonus of offering great views around from its rooftop.

This cathedral is an impressive monument of religious architecture. It is the biggest medieval church in Portugal. It was built in the age of transition from romanic to gothic style, compleyely in stone. Additions during later centuries, in different style, gave it a unique appearence. It stands in a small hill, that is a short walk from the central Praca do Giraldo, through atmospheric old Evora building. It is recommend to climb the stairway and go to the roof from where you can admire the whole city. It is well worth the stenuous ascent and the ticket of the visit.

The Castle of Evoramonte, situated in the parish of Evora Monte, is a historical monument dating back to the 12th century. Positioned on the highest point of Serra de Ossa, this castle showcases a distinctive architectural style blending Gothic and Renaissance elements. What sets it apart is its rare combination of a Renaissance palace with a fortified structure designed for warfare.

The Alcazaba of Badajoz is a historic citadel that served as a crucial control point between the Castilian plateau, Portugal, and Andalusia. Really fun to explore. Doesn’t feel touristy at all. I think there were only two people exploring this lovely spot the morning f I was there. All the I information about the history of the Alcazaba is in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

amazing experience, spent the whole day walking around the walls.

Must see place in Badajoz. Big, interesting fortress, from it is possible to see big part of the city, and river as well. We liked this fortress very much, there are tables with texts both in Spanish and English.
The Temple of Diana is an ancient Roman temple situated in Merida's city center, featuring columns on a raised platform. It also houses remnants of a medieval castle. The temple is located near the Los Milagros aqueduct and can be reached by advancing up the Rambla Martir Santa Eulalia into the city, passing by the tourist office and taking Berzocana street without any detours until you come across it at the end.
Free access to the first platform.
We didn’t buy entrance tickets.
Very picturesque place.

Very interesting temple in the centre of town. Make sure to take pictures of the upper entry level before going into the temple. If you go in and don't want to pay for the entry, the little man won't even let you take pictures outside.

Beautiful Temple! If you can go at sunset or right after dark it's the best.

Beautiful area, visit it for free during a stroll through town. No parking possibilities. Maybe one of the best places to feel the changes through the centuries. Roman, Gothen, Christians, Moslems... traces everywhere!

Situated right in the city centre. A lovely roman temple. The inside wasn't worth seeing in my opinion The outside is really beaitiful.

Outside better than inside. Small place too much people. 20 minutes in the line waiting to get in

The temple on the outside is great to see, the visit inside is maybe not needed, if you visit other sites, where you already get an explanationabout the temple of diana itself
Virginia Lopez Cojo — Google review
An interesting place to see. You don't have to buy a ticket to see it. The ticket allows you to enter the palace built behind and learn more about the use of the temple.

Majestic place, give you a calm and good feeling vibes. The restaurants around the Temple of Diana offers different variety and sumptuous food. The services are quite outstanding. They're are many events held here during the night. The ice cream parlor next to it offers different flavours and also one of my favourite, "limonada". You should definitely try it. It's a good place to walk with your family, kids, friends and of course your dogs.

Located in a square in town it dominates the surrounding houses. Pretty impressive to see. We went in the evening and it was suppose to be lit up but sadly wasn't so went again the next day. Worth seeing as similar Roman temples of Diana aren't as intact as this one.

Beautiful temple in the middle of town. There's an exhibit inside and access to the balcony but the highlight is the view from outside which is free.
The National Museum of Roman Art, located in Calle de Jose Ramon Melida, showcases an extensive collection of Roman sculptures, mosaics and artifacts excavated from the nearby theater and amphitheater. Despite not being built by the Romans themselves, it is considered one of the most important collections in the Iberian Peninsula. Visitors can also view houses, tombs and a section of the Roman road at this museum. A visit is highly recommended for those interested in ancient history and art.
Gorgeous artifacts, so much history, and a beautiful building to house it all. We stopped here without really knowing much about it or what to expect and were blown away by it all. 3-4 floors of ruins (crypt), art, coins, mosaics, utensils, statues, and every other artifact you could imagine. I believe we spent 2 hours here and would’ve stayed longer if we had the time. The museum building is one of the most beautiful that we’ve seen. Really loved this place

Stunning example of a museum supporting adjacent archaeological site. Most of the significant artefacts were moved to the museum for protection and safekeeping. What a comprehensive display. Worth the entry fee but even better on a free day! 😀

Modern museum building in which remains from 700 years of Roman settlement are presented. Thanks to the generous room layout, even large works of art such as mosaic floors or statues are shown to their best advantage. Unfortunately, the crypt is currently being renovated and cannot be visited. It makes sense to take a look at the numerous excavation sites in the city beforehand.

This museum, in fact, this entire city center, is an archaeological, dig along the lines of anything you would see in Italy with so many treasures they are still finding from the old capital of Lusitania back in ancient Rome. If you’re at all interested in ancient Roman history and you’re in Spain you really should see the city which is a world heritage site. it’s unbelievable that a city way out in the extremadura has a rich historical inheritance, and the museum is very well organized and beautiful for a city of modest size. Ole!

Those who have an interest both in Roman Art and contemporary architecture are twice rewarded with this museum. The building is a master work of Rafael Moneo , architect from the province of Navarre, who has combined simplicity with majesty to create a singular space for the impressive collection that comes from the ancient Roman city of Emerita Augusta, today the modern city of Merida . By means of an underground gallery, visitors can gain access to the Amphitheater and Theatre, the latter being one of the best conserved from the Roman Empire within Western Europe .

Crypt was closed while we were there, but the (free) museum is excellent for such a small city. Not too big, but not too small. Somewhat comparable to the Shanghai museum (my favorite), a little smaller and narrower in scope, but with a similar care in how the exhibits are organized and quality of placard details. Quite impressive, should be even better when they are finished with upgrades/repairs. You might want to do it on a different day than all the outdoor sites, doing it all in one day is fun but exhausting.

Excellent museum with some interesting artefacts. Not too big so an hour is all that’s needed to visit comfortably. The crypt was closed for renovation when I visited.

Fantastic museum but it needs some updating. Parts of the exhibition were closed because it rained through the roof, the crypt was closed due to technical issues, the lighting in some of the showcases was dead. Nevertheless super impressive, beautiful artifacts

Very interesting guided tour. Make sure you book the tour before hand, it might be full for the day. It is free and Spanish only

Fantastic Museum. For €3.50 (someday’s it is free) you really can’t beat the amount of history for the price.

Really enjoyed this National Museum - the building itself is wonderful but from the outside it just looks like a posh bus station 😀 - inside it’s really stunning and shows the artefacts really well over 3 floors. The mosaics are very impressive. If you go after 2pm on a Saturday and in Sunday morning it’s free
Please ‘like’ if you like 😀

Beautifully designed building paying tribute to the Roman Brick. The collection is housed in a grand Hall of soaring of arches. The highlights are the mosaics recovered from houses excavated in the surrounds of the Roman town of Augusta Eremita. These are vast in size. There are also originals of statuary from the nearby theatre. I often wonder how much more we would have of Roman art if the early Christians had not vandalised so many statues. Most of these are either headless. Or have had their noses carefully hammered.

This has to be a must see on your list of attractions in Merida. Right next to the Amphitheatre and Theatre site it is the most incredible collection of artefacts from around Merida. But the standout exhibits by far are the enormous collection of the largest mosaics I have ever seen …. They are all stunning and must be seen to be believed. And the museum is free…it’s too good to be true!

Teatro Romano de Mérida is a remarkable historical gem, featuring the remains of a Roman arena and waiting rooms used for gladiator and animal fights. The site is located in the city of Merida, Spain and is one of the most exquisite and notable Roman ruins in the country. It's an incredible place to visit with fantastic architecture that doesn't require any expert knowledge to appreciate. It's definitely worth spending more time here to learn about its rich history.
Incredible place and a must visit if you are in the proximities. The city of Mérida was a perfect discovery during our trip in Extremadura and the Roman Theater is by far one of the most exquisit and notable Roman ruins in Spain. Wonderful place.

Wonderful Roman ruins with a lot fewer turists than the more known ones. Really well preserved and restored, you can go right into the theater. They still host shows there in the summer. Bathroom facilities and a gift shop.

Amazing place, full of history, built over 2000 years ago and still plenty of beauty and magic that arises every summer for the International Theatre Festival.
A touristic visit during the day will allow you to walk through the stones, columns, statues... Attending one of the representations on the theatre nights will walk you through the ages to feel the real Roman plays. The acoustic is incredible, the sky full of stars, the stone keeping (usually) the heat from the day, and the breeze bringing the smells of trees around.
If you come to Mérida, the Theatre is a must, if you can come in summer, book your tickets for the theatre in advance. You'll love it.

Amazing Roman site, especially the restoration/recreation of the Theatre. Apart from the ones in Turkey and the eastern med this is the best one I’ve seen in mainland Europe. The amphitheatre is also very impressive and the rest of the site is well maintained and full of information boards.

With a population of around 16,677 people, it holds significance as the birthplace of notable figures such as Fray Ruy Lopez and Pedro de Valencia.
