gravina in puglia is a place of discovery.
during the Christmas holidays I had the pleasure of attending for the first time the representation of the living nativity scene in the Fondovito district and near the church cave of San Michele.
the impact was very emotional, the environment was the ideal scenario for this Christmas representation.
many details to improve, I recommend paying attention to the event for the future

It has been one of the best experiences I have ever done. The guide, Francesco, with his knowledge, guided us through the Gracina Sotterranea, explaining us all the features and stories. 10/10

About attraction we learned by accident at the information center, where we got the address. The place was near, a small street in the city center, in the evening. Only closed doors. He spoke to a man who spoke only Italian. We have done is only a small circle - about 20-30min - and in Italian. We do not speak Italian ... But it was perfect. The special atmosphere of this place, stunning caves and cisterns - and people lived here before. It is a pity that we did not have time - I'd seen it all over again. I really recommend.

Really great tour, our guide Stefania was so knowledgeable and friendly that made us very welcomed. Tour cost 10 EUR per person and lasted around 1,5 hour. Although the main part of the tour is underground, between underground sections we had to come upstairs and the guide would tell us stories about the buildings and areas we passed, so at times it felt like a tour of the city as well, more than we expected.

Unforgettable experience, but do keep in mind that there’s a long hard walk up to the Castelmezzano platform, as well as a slightly less challenging walk uphill to the Pietrapertosa platform. If you’re up for a gruelling workout, I’m sure you’re not going to regret it.

Very cool and unique experience, too bad for the disastrous connections to get there and the lacking side services, like bars, restourant etc...
.... To answer you reply, my it's not a critic to the experience itself but how everything around it works... I visited in mid August, booking an experience early afternoon, but unfortunately half the restaurant and shop were closed (for holydays or else)... Luckly I had plenty water with me. As for the connections, clearly out of you organization scope, coming from south the road is only doable with a an off-road fit vehicle as besides the high slopes some parts are completely unpaved while coming from down from the north there in only a busy narrow mountain road (also unpaved) used by buses and other heavy vehicles. While the Volo dell'angelo was a great experience, it's really a shame that it's not accompanied by adeguated services and infrastructure...

Highly recommended if you're in Castelmezzano or Pietrapertosa. One of the most beautiful views ever on a Zipline. You can experience ziplines anywhere in the world but it's truly magical here with the views of Castelmezzano and the Lucanian dolomites. Very nice and polite staff, very secure.

The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta or Santo Nicola Pellegrino, is a Romanesque Catholic cathedral in Trani, Italy. Made from local pink-white stone and completed mostly by the 1200s, it is an example of Apulian Romanesque architecture.
Beautiful Basilica on a large square by the sea with great view to nearby castle. We parked easily at the nearby port where fresh fish were being sold straight off the back of the boats. Under restoration when we were there, the exterior nearly complete and stunning to look at with onlt a small rear section still behind scaffolding. Only the crypt of interior open, but fun to visit. In the crypt are the relics of St. Nicholas the wanderer, not themore famous St Nick. Basilica from 1100, built over a church from 400AD.

Cathedral is one of the best places to see in the region. There is a lot of history, monuments to see. Unfortunately you can not take a guide inside. It’s located in lovely area, near the park and the port. The liturgy are normally about 10 pm. Inside is a little bit cold, but it’s normal like in this kind of buildings. You can go also to the underground.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, sometimes referred to as Santo Nicola Pellegrino, is the main place of Catholic worship in the city of Trani, in Puglia, the mother church of the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie and, since 1960, a minor basilica. [ 1]
It is an example of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Its construction is linked to the events of San Nicola Pellegrino, dating back to the era of Norman domination.

It was a visit from abroad, I did not enter the church, it is a beautiful area, a file of interest in the architecture of the area and the church that the baa was made of local materials and local stone, so it is very special and a reference to the ancient Italian organic architecture

You can pay 5€ to take the stairs up to the top of the Bell tower. The view from the top is pretty nice. The bells started ringing when we were 2 meters away from them, so be careful!

Castel del Monte is a unique 13th-century castle situated atop a hill, renowned for its impressive octagonal architecture. Guided tours and a gift shop are available for visitors to explore the castle's skeleton-like interior, which comprises numerous identical rooms lacking fixtures, adornments or furniture. The overall experience could be enhanced by replicating some of the items that might have been present during the castle's heyday and improving restoration efforts in certain areas.
As lean and simple that it is amazing. Must see if you are in the area. The octagonal base and the eight stone/marble towers put this building in the group of most iconic and recognized buildings in Italy. Enjoy a quick visit supported by one of the guides giving tours every 15-20 min or with an audio guide, that you can collect at the entrance. Park the car in the big parking place down the hill. It takes 10 min walk on a nice step way or 2 min with the minibus leaving from the parking.
Stefano P — Google review
The architecture of the castle is very impressive from the outside. Interviews from The Hill are equally impressive. Going on the torch itself a lot of the rooms are very similar to one another and it's simply just the skeleton of the castle There's no fixtures adornments furniture anything in the castle at all So after you see a rumor too it looks kind of the same.
This would be a much better experience if they were to try to replicate some of the items that may have been found in the castle at the time and do a better job at restoring some of the areas.
It's not a bad visit, but it's definitely one that I wouldn't go out of my way to go see.
A. R. (N1MO) — Google review
The castle is beautiful on the outside. The views from the hill are breathtaking.
The inside is nothing special - the walls are completely bare, there's literally nothing inside, every single room there looks the same, not everything is available for the public - it isn't worth paying the 7 euro for a ticket to enter.
Iga Szczepa?ska — Google review
It's a bit of a hike (1.3 km) from the parking lot (5€, April 2023) but more than worth it. The castle itself is mightily impressive with its octagonal shape and 8 towers. For 7€ you can inside to marvel at the courtyard, the halls as well as the views through the windows of the top floor. Definitely a highlight of our roadtrip through Puglia.
Thomas Soininen — Google review
A mysterious castle from the 12th century, build by Frederick II. Very impressive structure and nice view, however no furniture or anything else inside the building. Car park is 10 min walk downhill , close to a restaurant. No public transport available.
Hartmut Pfortner — Google review
Beautiful monument, nice to view the sunset from the edges of the building. The first time I visited there was a restaurant on the walk up to the building, now it's almost lifeless besides the few people touring around.
Flo Tonto — Google review
Castel del Monte entrance is free the first Sunday of the month. Parking costs 5€ and the bus to go up costs 2€ (including the return). I suggest you ask for a guide since the castle is empty. Amazing view from the window! The landscape is full of olive trees!
Valentina — Google review
A different kind of castle. Something you might want to check out. We went on a guided tour. But u need to take the bus to reach the castle. Beautiful view .
Micy Armoush — Google review
A nice place to visit. There's nothing in the castle, it's about the architecture. You'll find some Italian people trying to sell a guided tour.
Rodrigo Guandelini — Google review
We didn't do a guided tour.
And I definitely missed information about the castle and the history. There is some of it inside in French, English and German, but I still had questions.
From the outside it is an amazing castle.
From the inside the castle is quite boring. It is always the same and they don't really give illustrations how it looked inside during its prime time.
They play an artsy video without any information. I guess it showed stuff they found in and around the castle, but I'm not sure about it.
In my opinion, it is too expensive. You also have to pay for the parking and if you want to use the bus you also need to pay a ticket for the ride. You can walk to the castle, though.
Sofi Grüneisen — Google review
I can’t give any other review to this place than one star. It’s such a disapointmemt. Firstly, the castle opens to the public at 9am, but there ane NO toilets available before 10am for no understandable reason. Secondly, visual aids at the castle are extremely lazy, the lack of information about the place that truely seems exceptional because of its purpose and unsual location is just shockingly depreciating. The interiors are almost completely empty with very few information written. Thirdly, because of these reasons it’s way overpriced, once you add the ticket, the parking fee. Views from the inside are not worth buying the ticket. A beautiful tourist trap.
Anna Firląg — Google review
A completely well-proportioned castle. Entry is free unless you go inside.
S M — Google review
A beautiful castle. Nothing much inside and you can’t go on the top of roof like the movie scene. The ticket for€ 10 per person a bit expensive! Plus the parking €5 for a car.
Chen Claire — Google review
It was disappointing!
The view from around the castle was astounding (two stars for it) but the castle itself?
Just walls, no information (only one small board at the entrance), no objects they maybe found there, nothing!
You pay 10€ to see blank walls!
For us even the second floor was closed and we could not have the view from the roof, awful!
Some more informations; try to drive the street to the top and ignore the sign which says it’s not allowed to do that. If you are lucky, you can catch a parking place at the restaurant which also costs 5€, than you do not have to walk uphill and use the parking place downhill which also costs 5€.
Be aware that the streets which lead to the castle are a mess, sometimes you will find nearly craters directly in the middle of the street, drive carefully.
On our way there were two cars at the side of the streets which were broken down due to the bad roads.
For us it was not worth the real long drive, but decide on your own!
Jens Czaja — Google review
Even the drive to the place was so enchanting! It's a springtime, and the wild flower fields, the groves of blooming orchards, and trulli houses scattered in the valleys were a beautiful scenery leading to this unique castle. It is a special place. Have a comfy shoes as there is partly scenic hiking 20 minutes up to the castle. You can get a shuttle from parking, but only 2-way, though. We were not allowed to board to go only one-way back to the parking lot.
Tanya Larin — Google review
Great castle to walk around in, you need to watch for tour groups as they try and block the room they are talking in, and it's a room by room flow. They will block a room for several mins so try and get between groups so you can explore on your own. We really enjoyed how modern this castle was and the ability to see several rooms.
Deanna Shaw — Google review
I love Castel del Monte, it is an unique castle. I think it is the only castle to have an octagonal shape with eight octagonal towers. There is also an octagonal court present in the center of the castle.
If you want to visit the castle make sure you come on time (check opening hours), there is parking and a bus service provided. You need to pay for the parking and the bus. It is also possible to walk up but it is quite steep and the terrain is not ideal. It is not possible to park at the top.

Contrada Castel del Monte Ex, Strada Statale 170, 76123 Andria BT, Italy
Cascate di San Fele is a picturesque natural attraction featuring a network of trails that connect various waterfalls of different heights in hilly, forested terrain. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the trail and admire the scenic beauty of the falls amidst fall foliage. Although some visitors have commented on outdated and unclear signage, there are still plenty of waterfalls to discover in this charming location in Basilicata.
A really beautiful spot in nature, a set of around 7 waterfalls, a couple of which can’t be accessed because of landslide damage. The ones you can visit are just a short walk from the town of San Fele and are really lovely and completely free to enter. The water is cool and clear, some people were swimming but it was too cold for me!

We enjoyed a pleasant visit to the falls and viewed some wonderful fall scenery along the way. Some other Italian groups out for the same… made for a great outing!
The signs are pretty old and impossible to read, so no way to “plan” the walk and route. Hence, 4 stars. Otherwise really nice!

We have been on boat excursions all over the world. This one is for sure one of the best, if not the best!
We started on time, had translation in English with perfect sound quality.
The Captain is the best we have had so far. He can manage the small caves and drive the long boat inside without issues.
The price is a real bargain, only 25 Euros each for a three hour tour that goes along 22km of the coast.
Choose the right side of the boat! You will see more!
Arrive early at the pier as the line starts almost one hour before departure. If you arrive early you will be able to choose the best seats.

The landscape is outstanding...but the tour hawfull..you are seated for hours, like in a plane in a crawded boat (8 x 16.. passengers) except 40 min in which you go in a beach were peaple look at you like invaders..imagine 128 peoples arriving...

Although the boat is the biggest in the harbor of all, we recommend doing this tour! Don't worry, they fit in all grottos perfectly! The guide and the boat crew is really fantastic. As a lot of people are Italian the main information is in Italian. But they also translate in an understandable English language! We got a special treatment and got some stuff explained personally by the guide! (Only 4 English visitors on the boat during the trip). We felt really welcomed and we're happy we did the tour with Desiree Team. The boat might be crowded, especially in COVID-19 times this might be frightening, but don't worry you are outside with a lot of wind.

Had a great boat trip with them during off/low-season. We visited the main caves along the shore. Sometimes it was a bit hard to understand the guide for acoustic reasons.
Santuario di San Michele Arcangelo is a Catholic sanctuary dedicated to the archangel Michael, situated on a hilltop. The complex of buildings around it has expanded over time and now includes various religious edifices that overlay its original shrine. The entrance vestibule at street level is double-arched and stands alongside an octagonal bell tower built by Carlo of Naples in 1282.
Really beautiful and unique place to visit. You can feel good energy!
Perfectly kept with a lot of descriptions to prepare your visit and create your time for meditating and praying.
If you enter the grotto you’ll also receive a plenary and perpetual indulgence.
The only small minus is the closing time for lunch break. I’ve visited many sanctuaries and monasteries and did a lot of pilgrimages and I’ve never seen something like that in a sacred place. Especially, as this is a destination is for pilgrims!!
Be sure to organize your trip accordingly and do not arrive during the break to ensure to have the time to visit the entire complex (museums also close for lunch break!!!)

It is a sight to see. It is situated inside an underground cave, it is holy and magnificent, and especially for Christians a sight to behold, an important place of worship
This place was a destination for countless Christian pilgrimages from all over. In fact it was visited by St Francis of assisi, Padre Pio and many other devout Christians and famous theologians
I sure recommend it, for it it is widely known and accepted that people's prayers are answered here graces are granted and miracles happen in those who visit, and it is also widely accepted that those who come will be protected by the most powerful of archangels Michael
I loved it, I will return!!!

Located in the small town of monte sant'angelo. One of the many sanctuaries where St. Michael the archangel appeared and are dated in history. You can search their history in the internet. To broad to discuss here but it iw worth the read. Also this place has a overview of gargano peninsula. A great view of the ocean and mountains.
You can look at the photos i have attached to this post.

Originally it had a drawbridge which, together with the surrounding walls and garrisons of soldiers, served to defend the city during invasions. It allows entry into the historic part with its characteristic narrow streets and stairways, full of shops, clubs and activities which are overrun by tourists on holiday on summer evenings. The Sanctuary of Saint Mary our Lady of Grace is a Catholic church that was consecrated in 1959. It boasts three naves and altars adorned with mosaics, relics, and statues. The sanctuary surrounds the small church where Saint Padre Pio lived, making it a unique place of faith and spirituality for the Italian people. The church is beautifully designed and serves as a center for religious activities.
I've been there several times and every time when I was there, I had an undescribable feeling. I could imagine of every scene when Padre Pio was alive.

A Holy place where you can find the Tomb of St. Padre Pio. There are so many pilgrims that visiting the Sanctuary.

The new church is incredibly beautiful. Marvelous mosaics and a beatiful statue of San Pio.
But much more important than this: this church is full of grace. The energetic density is very high and can be sensed as soon as you enter the building. After two minutes inside I started to cry for no reason. This is Grace that makes the unconscious sorrow conscious. On a spiritual path this is called purification. During mass the energy level gets even higher.
So, walk inside, admire the mosaics and the statue, but know: the most valuable here is invisible! 🙏🙏
Filip Van Wanzeele — Google review
Kind staff, for the most part. It was a great spiritual experience. Having said that there are next to no signs in English. Makes me as a "westerner"/american unwelcome as if Padre Pio didnt want me there.

Nice church with mosaics and a path to see the objects and images of Padre Pio’s life. In winter his mummified body is kept in the underground room on sight of prayers.

A very solemn place to pray and experience the very place where St Padre Pio stayed, gave mass and confession. Such a good place to be to spend time with the Lord.

It is a blessing to visit the simple and magnificent Santa Maria della Grazie, the sanctuary where Padre Pio of Pietralcina resided and served untiringly until his death.
The sanctuary's location, nestled amid rolling hills and picturesque landscapes, sets the tone for a contemplative and serene experience and evokes a sense of peace and tranquility.
The most moving moment of a visit is the opportunity to venerate Padre Pio's tomb within the sanctuary. The tomb, adorned with flowers and candles, is a focal point of reverence and devotion for pilgrims worldwide. Santa Maria della Grazie is not only a sanctuary for worship but also a place of healing. The adjacent Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church houses the renowned San Pio Hospital, a testament to the saint's dedication to caring for the sick and suffering. The hospital's modern facilities and compassionate staff continue his legacy, providing much-needed medical assistance and hope.
The piazza and the peaceful gardens, inviting prayer chapels, and quiet nooks are perfect for reflection and meditation. The atmosphere at Santa Maria della Grazie fosters contemplation and invites visitors to embrace a moment of introspection and spiritual renewal. No visit to this sanctuary would be complete without experiencing the profound practice of participating in Mass or attending one of the daily prayer services. It is an incredibly enriching and spiritually uplifting journey.

An interesting surprise! The main church is contemporary and includes the old church where Padre Pio was confessing women. At the lower level there’s his resting place. You can also visit Padre Pio’s cell and part of the convent. During the visit you can really perceive his personality, influence and the good actions he performed during his life.
I absolutely recommend to visit this place at least ones in a lifetime. Ideally perfect to combine with Monte Sant’Angelo.

The new underground crypt was absolutely breath taking. The gentle slope led us into this golden circular crypt with an Altar and the great Saint Pio now laid. The crypt is so different from the original Santuario in every way, it is worth making the journey. The Stations of the Cross requires uphill climb of many steps, lovely & peaceful for prayers.

Italy is full of wonderful old towns. We've seen many and always like to find some new Centro Storicos or Borgo Anticos.
Compared to many other towns, Termoli has a quite small old center. The location is quite beautiful though. Sitting on top of a hill, overlooking the ocean. You can walk all around the historic center, all with sea and port views. Inside the old center there is honestly not that much to see and do. Not just because of Corona. There are just not that many shops or restaurants. Only a handful. It was nice to walk around the small area anyways. But compared to other Historic Center it's quite a quick walk.
Still, landmarks like the Castello Svevo with the Belvedere della Torretta, the Cathedral of Saint Mary 'della Purificazione and the Piazza Duomo makes the visit worth a drive.
Don't miss out on the new part of town. The Corso Nazionale is a nice walking and shopping street. Surely worth a visit.

The Punta Aderci wildlife reserve features a renowned pebble beach surrounded by cliffs which offer stunning panoramic views of the sea. Despite being almost abandoned in the past, it has recently become a popular destination for tourists seeking to explore the picturesque coastline of Abruzzo. The best time to visit is during early autumn when there are fewer crowds and the deep blue water color is due to changing weather conditions.
This is a must go place in vasto, almost abandoned in past, in the last years many and many tourists started coming just to admire at this landmark.
Best period to visit is early autumn, less crowded and with a deep blue water color due to the changing weather conditions.

Beautiful visit but the water/beach left a little something to be desired. The sea was pretty rough and the water had substantial debris, which was mostly organic (I only saw one tissue/piece of trash). Other than that, the walk to the beach alone is worth the visit on a sunny day. Amazing view of the sea, valley and mountains all in one horizon.
Great stop for us as we drove up the coast and wanted to stop for a swim and a walk. Glad we saw it.

A small beauty spot with majestic stony beach and a bit of a cliff.
We were very lucky to come across frogs mating season in the small pond on the beach. What a symphony of amphibians! I guess it was just some luck.
There is a house on the jetty nearby, we'll visible from the cliff and breath views.
Great spot for a picnic, perhaps, but not a toilet or drinking water in sight.

Lake Scanno, the largest natural lake in Abruzzo
⚓️ Lake Scanno was formed naturally following a landslide of Mount Genzana, which blocked the course of the Tasso river, flooding the surrounding valley and giving rise to the lake
🤔 Lake Scanno is surrounded by a series of mysteries and curiosities, which make this place even more suggestive. But beware not all stories are true.
💚 First of all, there is to dispel the myth that Lake Scanno has the shape of a heart. Actually that is not the case, but from some vantage points you can see it in that form. There is a path called "The Path of the Heart", after an hour of walk from the foot of the lake it will allow you to reach the most beautiful panoramic point of the lake where I am standing at.
⛪️ Along the way you will also meet the Hermitage of San't Egidio. Too bad that it was closed when I passed by.

Very stunning castle ruin ,even the drive up the mountain was incredible. You can't drive right up to the castle, you either have to walk the 4 kms to it or take a bus from the village below. The old Borgo close to the castle has several places to eat or have a drink plus some gift type shops.

River cave visited by guided tour, with a cascading waterfall, plus stalactites & stalagmites.
It is located in the countryside but there are lots of signs along the road to help you get there. You have to enter in timed intervals with a guide. We looked online, and you can see how many spots are available for each interval. So we started to drive there, not sure exactly which interval we would be on time for, and purchased our ticket once we got there. Our guide was Lara - the tour was in English and Italian. She is very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. She gives you time to take photos at each area, but at the same time, she keeps the group moving along. There is time to ask questions. There is nowhere else in Italy quite like this, so it is well worth the admission fee. The time spent inside was perfect, about 1 hr and 20 minutes. Dress warmly for temperatures about 10 degrees C.

This was a fun little tourist diversion for the family and I. We booked online in the morning which was pretty simple, we went for one of the later tours (about 5.30pm).
There is some on street parking on the roads below the actual entrance area. You just park up, walk up to the cabin and show the PDF of your tickets before waiting for the guide to pick you up. There are a couple of little vending machines to grab a coffee or snacks.
It is a guided tour so you are gathered up as a group, before being given a helmet and having the rules and safety explained. Note, this is a tour in Italian. Whilst the guide explained the safety is stuff in English, the rest of the tour was in Italian. This was fine with us, even thought we don’t speak great Italian, we should not expect them to do things differently as we were the only English on the tour. The guide was happy to answer the questions we had as we went around the caves though, in perfect English.
The caves themselves are great, easy paths, nice lighting and atmospheric. There are only a couple of spots you are allowed to take photos which the guide will inform you about. We had an excellent time though, really cool.
If anyone spots the lens cap to my Nikon FXC camera I there, let me know :)
Highly recommended!

The tickets were 10 euros and there is a nice shop and cafe in the ticket / parking area. Please note the tour is all in Italian but it all about the caves really!

A really beautiful site in one of the mountains of the area of Parco Naturale Regionale Sirente-Velino. It has a really scenic and gorgeous cave that you have to enter with a tour guide and pictures are generally permitted only in certain areas but as long as you’re not using flash in other areas you should be permitted.
There is a restaurant just down the hill from the entrance otherwise the area is quite remote with a village nearby with more food & drink options.
Recommend for everyone whether alone or in a family/ group. You have to book in advance however and can’t go without one. Bella Italia🇮🇹

One of the best caves systems I’ve seen and still only partially explored. A lot of WoW moments. Our wonderful and engaging tour guide Laura made the visit a memorable one.

Great idea for a half-day excursion. Our guide Alessandro was excellent and very kind.
You need to be at the car park 45 mins before your slot as you have to wait for the shuttle bus etc.
You need walking boots or trail shoes as it can be slippery.
It wasn't very cold but a waterproof jacket is required.
Helmets are provided and they are included in the ticket price.

This was a wonderful little tour for us. Our tour guide, Laura, was very informative and helpful - we apparently booked an Italian tour but don’t speak Italian so she translated everything for us! The whole tour took about an hour. Would definitely recommend making this a stop on on your vacation!

Beautiful cave with water falls 17 and 20 meters high!!! Amaaazing!!! On June 21st 2023 the tickets (12eu per person) were available at the booth at the entrance👍👍👍 You must enter with a guide👍 very good and easy paths👍 700meters to go and another 700 to come out. Temperature is about 10 celcius with 100% humidity so you must wear a vest. Very interesting to see the water falls, the water chanels, the stalagtites and stalagmites!!!👍😊👍😊 Pictures allowed only at the water falls.

This is definitely a place you have to visit if you find yourself in the area. Very easy to get here, preferably book your tickets online. Recommended for families with kids too. I do caving myself, but sometimes it is nice to see caves lightened and with a guide that can explain you the formation of these mother nature beauties. I have visited quite a few public ones but this is definitely special for the length it stretches and for the stream that cross the entire cave system for more than 4km. Only 700 meters of it are accessible to the public. Thank you so much Jusy, our guide, for taking us inside the earth and explaining the history of this caves.

Robust Italian pasta, meat & seafood dishes on a wide stone terrace overlooking the city & the sea.
A beautiful place that I have known for many years. Two things are impressive: the service and the location of the terrace. The wine list is comprehensive enough and the food is good. Of note, tortellini with veal and truffles. Reasonable prices. In conclusion, a place worth visiting by any tourist in the area.

Impressive comfortable location. Refined cuisine though the menu should need reorganizing for better clarity. Service is speedy and friendly, but not too professional: in particular, welcoming guests needs better organization. Prices are moderate.

Nice place to lunch at nice weather - relaxed atmosphere, food is delicious, service is not fast (they were busy at Sunday), but friendly, wine and food is at reasonable price for that location.
Volker BUETTCHER (DVB) — Google review
The place is beautiful, but yhe table we were on was in front of the store rooms and steps onto the tower. They should have taken that lonely table away.
Regarding yhe service, we felt we were rushed. No sooner had we finished one course and the next was serviced. Several times they came asking if we were finished eventhough we hadnt had our coffees yet. They wanted the table back.
Regarding the food: we had spagetti gitare with tomato sauce and secondo was sliced beef. Both not special.
Maybe because we came in August the total bill was way more than we expected. But eventhough the setting is stunning, i do not think I will go back.

I spotted the basilica from the motorway. I had no idea of the historic significance. I have zero religious inclination, but as a world traveler I always enjoy a beautiful basilica. And it never ceases to amaze me how much significant people place on these buildings with over the top ornate decoration.

Beautiful church with some interesting stories and art. Take some time to read about the history of how Jesus home came to be in Italy and see if you find the astronauts painted there as well. No entrance fee and in feb almost no crowds. Well worth a visit.

Since its completion in the 16th century and possibly even earlier, the "Holy House" of Loreto has been numbered among the most famous shrines of Italy. Loreto is a small town a few miles south of Ancona and near the sea. Its most conspicuous building is the basilica. This dome-crowned edifice, which with its various annexes took more than a century to build and adorn under the direction of many famous artists, serves merely as the setting of a tiny cottage standing within the basilica itself. Though the rough walls of the little building have been raised in height and are cased externally in richly sculptured marble, the interior measures only thirty-one feet by thirteen. An altar stands at one end beneath a statue, blackened with age, of the Virgin Mother and her Divine Infant. As the inscription, Hic Verbum caro factum est, reminds us, this building is honoured by Christians as the veritable cottage at Nazareth in which the Holy Family lived, and the Word became incarnate. Another inscription of the sixteenth century which decorates the eastern facade of the basilica sets forth at greater length the tradition which makes this shrine so famous.
Casa Leopardi, the birthplace of poet Giacomo Leopardi, is a renowned museum in Recanati. This historic attraction boasts a vast library and captivating exhibits that offer insights into the life and works of the esteemed poet. Guided tours allow visitors to explore the house where Leopardi spent his childhood, including his beloved library, which houses an impressive collection of twenty thousand books that played a crucial role in his studies.
The whole area is breath taking, I am not and will never be a fan of Leopardi (probably due to secondary school studies!), but by visiting the premises help me to understand the character, I am sure he had a tough life, despite being a wealthy guy, hence the production of his poetry. Visiting his house and the surrounding places really helps to understand him and if possible to love his work, personally I have re evaluate it completely! Also I must say that the passion of the guides when explaining and the help and support they provide is astonishing
Giulio D'Alberto — Google review
Of all the things suggested in the ticket the house itself with the library is the only one worth visiting. However you cannot take pictures there which is a bit of a shame nowadays

To be honest, one would not even bother to go in if it were not for the Leopardi name. That said, we truly enjoyed the tour of the library and the personal quarters on the second floor. The tour guide was helpful and well prepared and made our tour interesting and fun. I personally would not buy a separate ticket for the museum. Enjoyable visit overall

The Cattedrale di San Ciriaco is a serene and peaceful destination during the autumn season. It boasts a 13th-century dome and an entrance adorned with granite lions that overlooks the port. The interior of the cathedral features simple yet elegant designs, while its crypt showcases impressive stonework. Visitors are encouraged to climb the stairs for breathtaking views of the surroundings instead of taking the unremarkable elevator. This beautiful church offers free tours and has an intriguing history worth exploring.
Such a beautiful church and again a beautiful view over the port and city 😍a must see when visiting Ancona

The cathedral itself is quite nice, but nothing very special. Maybe there are some historical arts, which I didn't know. To the museum I haven't been. It was closed when I was there. Better check online if this is on your bucket list.
I propose you walk the way up from the coast side. On the way you find a lot of great views to the harbor and the city. At the Dome also is a panoramic terass. It's worth to walk up the hill!
Andy ET — Google review
It is worth the walk up to visit this cathedral and their is a free lift that takes you some of the way, but their are lots of steps and steep slopes. You can drive up as parking outside. Their are views of the port and over the city roof tops. The entrance looks impressive with huge stone loins outside guarding it. Inside is a lots of treasures, beautiful huge art works and lots of lovely marble and pillars. The font was very modern and simple. The floors and ceilings were very colourful. Their was plenty of dark wooden panelling and stone carvings and 2 crypts to go down. The one had 1 euro donation. Their was also an information board and it was very well maintained. Outside is a museum which was closed so dont know what it was about and also a tower to which was no access.

Nice cathedral on a hill overlooking the Ancona harbour. You can see the dockyards very well as well as the bell towers and buildings in the downtown core. Inside, the cathedral is very nice and contains a large amount of history worth seeing and learning about. There is also a surprising amount of human bodies parts and a body in the museum portion under the main auditorium.

Very beautiful and peace place. It is situated uphill and it give beautiful scenic view of the city and sea.cattedrale had a ancient connection and it is beautiful inside out. You can feel peace when you are in the church.
Amazing experience. My tour guide, Michele, was very knowledgeable and painted a vivid picture of the discovery of the caves. His English is great and learning about the formations was really interesting. It was a magical experience and this has been my favorite experience in Italy, maybe even my life. These caves should be one of the natural wonders in the world. Also, the surrounding town is beautiful, you can take a nice stroll alongside the river. Try the dishes with truffles in them! Also, vincisgrassi (the regional version of lasagne) is delicious. The locals are so friendly, but some of them don’t speak English so it’s a great opportunity to practice your Italian! My heart is still in the mountains there.
P.S. if you try to get to the Valadier Temple (Tempio del Valadier) the google map location for it is not accurate for the start of the trailhead. You will have to go about double the distance from the caves than what it says (the location of the cave on the side of the mountain). It will be on the right side of the road and about 800 meters from the caves. It is walkable, but a rather long walk on the side of the road to get to the starting point. But, it is worth it!

Even though it was quite busy, the visit was well organised. What we did not like is when we bought the tickets, it was advertised that you could follow an audio tour using the app instead of the guided tour.
We liked this option as we were with young children a d their attention span for a guided tour is limited, especially in a language they don't speak.
When we got up to the entrance of the caves; they said this was not possible and we had to wait an hour (!) for the English guided tour.
The guide took a tremendous amount of time to explain each crack and sediment difference so we decided to walk on and tagged along to two Italian guided groups before we were 'caught' and told to stay with the guide.
Our round took 1,5 hours; I did not dare to ask how long the normal tour would have taken.
The cave itself is nice, well lit and the path is fenced and very accessible even for young children. There is only one route to follow so it's not possible to get lost.
Otto Ramaker — Google review
The caves themselves are amazing! The company running them are running a slick operation and probably making a decent profit and in some cases have put profit before customers and this is why I've only given 3 stars... The buses that take you to the caves from the car park are mainly standing space with very few seats, they packed them full and it's a hot and windy road. The most annoying part however is that photos are forbidden, even with no flash. The only reason for this is so they can sell tickets to the photo tour where you're allowed to take photos. There's no pricing for the photo tour online however so I can only assume it's extortionate.

Amazing morning at the museum. We didn't book ahead and we probably should have. School groups were touring on the same day so when the guide finished with them, he offered to take us around. His English was limited but we managed and he was so kind to take us around. He showed my 6-year-old how to make paper and let him try it out. Highly recommended activity for families. I suggest to plan better than we did and go when there is an English tour so it's even better. There's a great playground and park across the street where you can do a picnic after.

I went to the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana for a class field trip and was able to learn a lot! At the museum there is a demonstration of the paper production. It is very hands on and you can make your own sheet of paper with the help of the guide. We were able to go to different rooms and look at different machinery. We also learned about money and how different currencies can be easier or harder to forge due to the technique used to make it. Overall it was an incredible experience and I would recommend to anyone!

I went here for a class field trip! It was really cool to see because they take you through their history, you can also actually make paper if you take a tour. It is old fashioned but they show you how they keep up their modern touch. The town surrounding the factory is also very nice. It is totally worth seeing and making a stop at their factory with their excellent guides!

I went to the Museo della Carta e della Filigrana on a class field trip about a week ago. When we first walked into the museum, you find yourself in a foyer area surrounded by works of watermarks on paper. The tour guide approached our group and she announced that she was ready to get started. Our tour guide, Francesca, was very informative throughout the whole experience and was more than willing to answer our questions to her full capabilities. The first room she took us in, she showed us the first machine that was able to turn washcloths into a flattened paper that people are able to write on. In that same room she brought a colleague and showed the group first hand how to make the paper. They were also nice enough to allow some of my classmates to experience this process with their own hands. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anybody who is interested in this subject. I know I learned a lot about paper making that I never thought I would learn.

Museo della Carta e della Filligrana was a great museum. I visited the museum on a field trip with my university. Paper was born in Fabriano, the second most important Italian paper mill. At this museum you can watch the process of paper production and can have a hands on experience of producing their own sheet of paper! You are able to go through many different rooms containing old paper mills, old paper production, the vats and presses and machinery. To think about the ties it has to marketing and how it has evolved is very important with where marketing is today.

My visit to the Paper and Watermark Museum in Fabriano was wonderful. I attended the museum with a group, and our guide, Francesca, was very interesting and wanted us to be hands on when explaining the process of paper making. We were shown not only how handmade paper has been made in the past, but the history behind how it has evolved and how they now produce it. Great establishment, I would recommend stopping if you are in the area.

The Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo is a Catholic church situated on top of Mount Ingino in Umbria, Italy. It contains the remains of Saint Ubaldo, the patron saint of Gubbio - a 12th century bishop named Ubaldo Baldassini. The sanctuary also houses the famous ceri statues depicting other saints.
Interestinf church, on top of the hill ovelooking Gubbio. The lady at the bookshop was highly competent in the history of the saint and told us every detail we couldn't learn from a regulat guide book. We had great fun getting there with a 12 minute journey via cable car. Spectacular view!
Ornella B — Google review
A beautiful panoramic location above Gubbio. Being short on time we favoured the 6 minute funivia ride to the steep climb - and marvelled at the May 15 historic race (Corsa dei Ceri) that sees teams of Gubbio residents running the steep climb with "ceri" weighing around 300kg each (photographed) from the town centre to the Basilica. The Basilica houses the remains of Saint Ubaldo, an impressive presence to be seen with your own eyes.

Not opulent or extensively decorated. It is centuries old of course, and the mummified saint is visible above the alter. There was signage in English, which was a plus as I learned about the major ceremony occurring later in May. The big thing is to take the "cable car" instead of an exhausting walk, or driving up (very limited parking). The quotes are because the car is a two-person stand up cage!
