One of a kind. Maybe Dubrovnik may have some kind of same feelings to give. It’s my top 10 place “must come back here”. If you have doubts about coming - don’t you need to visit.

First class visit to this ancient and picturesque walled city, so rich in history, art, food and architecture. Wonderfully preserved and presented.

“O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming...” This a nice way to use the word and an interesting place to visit: Les Remparts de St. Malo, a walk along the top of the tall granite walls that circle the charming village of St. Malo in Brittany. Imagine the medieval life, admire the Gothic and Romanesque town cathedral, step down the stairs to enjoy crepes washed down by cider. Wear a hat, take time to reminisce and appreciate the historical magnitude of how the allies were able to conquer the town back to the French. In the summer bring a swimsuit or hat, or both, otherwise bring an umbrella.

A charming small town on the English Channel, one hour drive from Rennes. My visit was short, only a few hours in the afternoon, but I managed to take a stroll along its fortification walls. The view over the sea was stunning. The tide was coming fast. The weather offered good conditions for kite surfing. What started as a sunny afternoon finished in a windy and cold evening. Quite typical in Brittany.

Les Remparts de Saint-Malo are a granite wall that surrounds the city, built from the 12th century. I really liked the panoramic view of the sea, the baby islands, the beach and the historic buildings of the city.
👍 I enjoyed walking along the ramparts, which are about 2 km long and have several access points. I learned a lot about the history and culture of Saint Malo, the city of corsairs and writers. The ramparts are well preserved and restored and have some interesting features such as cannons, statues, towers and guardhouses.
🌟 I give 5 stars to this attraction, which is a must-see for anyone visiting Saint-Malo. It is a great way to discover the charm and beauty of this fortified city. I recommend it

Grand aquarium of Saint-Malo is one of the most popular in France and it's easy to see why. With over 600 species of marine animals, this is the perfect place to explore all sorts of aquatic life. There are sections for cold and temperate seas, mangroves, tropics, and a ship wreck!, so there's something for everyone.
A wonderful experience of almost immersion in the world of fish and the sea. Although it was very crowded on the day we were there due to bad weather, it was still a great experience and the displays/tanks were informative for interested adults, whilst being entertaining and visually interesting for the kids. The underwater cave experience towards the end was second to none. The admission price is a bit steep though and there didn’t seem to be family tickets for larger families. Not completely accessible for people with mobility difficulties due to some sections only being accessible by stairs.
Peter Williams — Google review
The aquarium was an adventure! It is a good option for all ages. It offers a great educational experience and also a sensory experience since there are stations where you can actually touch the animals. They divide the aquarium is different sections that host different species from a specific area. There is information available in both, French and English. You can easily spend 2 hours walking around and participating in the activities offered, such as the submarine immersion. It is well organized so you will definitely enjoy it. I’d suggest visiting early because it can get crowded. Bring your snacks, get your camera ready (without flash) and spend a lovely day learning!
Alexa Carlos — Google review
Great aquarium with a lot of different species that you can observe, we went early in the morning which was perfect because it wasn't to crowded, they have 2 little rides at the end of your visit that are quite fun just remember to keep a hold on your ticket because they will ask you for it to ride them.

Awesome aquarium that has a very interesting take on being an aquarium. Lots of fish and exhibits including a hands on exhibit with rays, an underwater aquarium tour, and various other attractions. Well worth the visit!
Travis Marsh — Google review
Wonderfully restaurated! What a fun experience, the halls are spacious, as are the aquariums. There has gone a lot of work in this place.
It even has a submarine bit. It's amazing 10/10 would visit again, if only to pet the rays.

Great spot for families. Price was good and there was lots.
to see and keep children entertained. Highly recommended for tourists. The touch tank is fabulous being able to touch rays. The underwater ride was entertaining .

Very interesting aquarium. Whoever designed it did so in a way that you feel immersed in the water along with the sea creatures. Wide variety of species. Interesting for all ages. The line is shorter if you have your ticket in advance.

Really informative. Great range of displays. Kept our kids engaged for hours!
Hilary Power — Google review
Recently remodelled and refurbished. Excellent facilities, interesting and educational with interactive sections too. The Abyssal descender was good fun while the Nautisub was a fantastic end to the visit. £15 each was not expensive for what is a great day out. We spent over 3 hours here, but with young kids that could easily be 4 or 5.
ivor davies — Google review
We thought we had seen everything you could see in the various aquariums we visited around the world but a rainy day drew us to this one, which had the reputation of being one of the largest in France. It is actually really good, with many things we had not seen before. So definitely worth visiting if you are around!
Jean-Yves Courtois — Google review
Very cute and familiy friendly aquarium with really good showrooms. Interisting charts and authentic aquariums. Even a big outdoor-bassin is also on site. No need to a forehand online ticket download. It is not too overrunned. Especially for families with children a very good place to go - maybe on a rainy day...
Thomas Schubert — Google review
I liked to see so many different fish. However, it was too crowded, in some places smelled of toilet, and the price is quite high as for such experience. Some of the fish were bitten and bleeding, clearly suffering
Inga Grygalyte — Google review
Nice sized aquarium, nothing huge, but it has a good collection of various ocean creatures, it's set up very well, especially for kids. This is a great place to spend a couple of hours. The underwater submarine ride is really worth it!
Anna Marie — Google review
Great experience on a rainy day. The aquarium with its 360 degree tank is amazing. The highlight and fun part is the Abyssal Descend and the Nautibus.
John Hayes — Google review
One of the best aquariums I have been to. The visit of the aquarium is also supported by local and sailor legends which my children enjoyed. The explanations are in English and French. The place is super well taken care of and there are even some attractions I have never seen in an aquarium, such as being in your own "submarine" to see fish as if you were in the sea or a deep abyss simulator. There is also a place where one can touch fish. Finally the ring with the sharks was a highlight of the aquarium. Like I said, one of the best aquariums and we were more than happy to support them at the very nice gift store. Good job guys, continue the hard work! We could see how much you love sea animals.

Porte de l'Avancée is one of the three grand doors marking the main street at Mont Saint Michel. The castle doesn't require tickets for entry, but you'll need them to access the top for a breathtaking view and to visit the current exhibition celebrating its 1000-year anniversary. While there are plenty of steps, free toilets are available inside the exhibition area, or you can use paid facilities at the entrance.
Mont Saint Michel is an amazing place. You don't need tickets to enter the castle, but you will need to tickets to get to the top - the view is amazing and well worth it. There's also a current exhibition for the 1000 year anniversary. Plenty of steps, free toilets inside the exhibition area or you will have to pay 1 Euro at the front. There's a free bus shuttle to take you from the visitors centre or you can walk, which takes about 30-35mins.

I have to say my experience at these Toilets was very appalling. My reason being that the Lady running it charged 2 Euros for me to excrete my bodily fluids. Anyways there was another Woman working there who looked like she was at the lowest point in her life even lower than the Mariana Trench (for those who have been living under a rock the Mariana Trench is the deepest underwater trench in the world). Anyways, back to the story, as I entered the sanctuary of the Mont Saint Michael bathrooms a very pungent smell came about my nostrils. To my disgust I found large splats of diarrhoea smelted across the walls (my best assumption was the Charging lady from the start as her face looked as red as my little boys cherries). Anyways, my experience at the Toilets was not only pungent and disgusting it was filling me with gratitude to the fact that back in the Brexit geezer land of the UK we have access to free toilets. - infinity/

Mont Saint-Michel
Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Small, inhabited island with 11th-century, Romanesque abbey & the highest tides in Europe.
A must visit place. I recommend the guided tour with 11 Euro, but you need to reserve it through their official website. Otherwise, you can also reserve an audio-guided ticket or just buy it from the ticket office at the entrance . Also, it worth to stay at one of the hotels at the Saint Michel area. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The main attraction is old Abbey at the top of mountain. So, there will be a lot of stairs to walk.

What wonderful & magical place to visit.
The walk there is awesome. We spotted Spoonbills & Egrets on the walk.
There is a shuttle to and from there. Lap or handbag size dogs can travel on it too.
Every step anyway you take leads to surprise & wonder.
Restaurants there also.

Our journey to Mont Saint Michel was made even more magical by spending the night at one of the cozy inns nestled within the island's walls. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the abbey and surrounding buildings were bathed in a golden glow, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.
Exploring the island at night was an experience like no other. The narrow cobblestone streets were illuminated by the soft glow of lanterns, casting enchanting shadows on the ancient stone walls. With fewer tourists around, we felt like we had the island all to ourselves, free to wander and soak in the quiet beauty of the night.
The abbey itself took on an ethereal quality under the moonlight, its towering spires reaching up to the sky as if reaching for the stars. Inside, the hushed whispers of history seemed to echo through the halls, adding to the sense of mystery and wonder.
And then there was the tide. Watching the sea creep closer under the cover of darkness, only to recede again with the rhythm of the moon, was a sight that filled us with awe and wonder.
Spending the night at Mont Saint Michel was an experience we'll never forget. It's a place where the magic of the past meets the beauty of the present, and where every moment feels like a dream come true.

Amazing place, the fortress is over 1000 years old and is still standing strong. You can either walk to it or take a free shuttle bus from the car park. Inside it’s very authentic and picturesque, filled with little winding streets, full of history. You can walk most of the parts with a pram, but there is also lots of stairs. Lovely views on the fortress walls as well.

Beautiful site. Great scenery. Very touristic but well organized. However, this must be an extremely crowded and a better-to-avoid place during summer holidays. Late autumn, winter, early spring are fine I guess.

When you see the place from distance it is breath taking. Also when you enter, you can not stop thinking who had the idea to built it and it seems impossible to understand how they did it 1000 years ago. It is something you will need to see once in your life. Also amazing views from above.

Impressive structure. It’s alway busy so plan your trip early or late in the day. Don’t need a guide just visit the structure yourself. Tickets for cathedral cost €11,- You can buy them on the scene. Age under 26 is free of charge. Overlooking the ocean is awesome. Really worth the visit.
Jurgen Hesselink — Google review
We spent 3 hours at the Mont and made it to the top... but it is a lot of stairs up and down when you are there and even more in the Abbey. We could have spent longer, but we were on a schedule. It is one of those places that you have to see to understand and get the picture of how people had to live here.
My suggestion is to be there at opening. We were there at opening and had a great parking spot and caught the second shuttle, so the wait was very short. As we were leaving, 3 hours later, there were so many people coming up that it was difficult to get down the "ramp" through the shops and to the exit gate.
This would be an extremely difficult place to visit with kids who need strollers and aren't used to climbing stairs. Parents need to be prepared to carry their kids, if they get tired.
We had our tickets when we got there and it made it really easy. We were moved in the abbey entrance into the building, and people without tickets had to go wait in another area to purchase their tickets.
The bathrooms at the visitor center near the shuttle loading entrance are free and nice. The people T the visitor center can also give you your map and Abbey ticket too, which will make it much faster when you get to the Mont.

Incredible even in the rain! Never experienced anything like the labyrinth of churches built amongst churches. The Abbey is well worth a visit.
Spectacular views from the ramparts over the sea and coast.
Make.sure you wander off the main streets to make the most of it- lots of little quiet areas to get away from the vast crouds.
Hannah Rogers — Google review
This is a must see! Tickets should be bought in advance to enter into the Abbey part of the fortress.
Even if you didn’t get tickets to go inside the Abbey, you can walk the entire perimeter of the wall and around the grounds.
There are lots of shops and restaurants on the grounds as well. Crepes, coffee, and lots of souvenirs.
This is well worth the trek out to see it!
A-Aron — Google review
It is one of the most iconic visited sites in all of France!! Not for the faint of heart since the Abbey sits 355' in a medieval village. This was built in the 7th century, so there is very little help for the handicap.
One of the most enjoyable side trips we made in France!

Amazing views with such a varied history... A lot to take in, quite accessible but certainly less crowded early in the morning.
Very nice restaurants on the island, with a variety of venues. Tiny, open, various menus and all surrounded by HISTORY.
Many things to consider here. For an abbey to be turned into a prison - makes one wonder at the choices we humans make!
Laine McNeil — Google review
Well worth the visit if you are in the area. Get the free shuttle bus to and from the car park - saves a 40 min walk each way and definitely do a tour of the Abbey. It’s the best thing to do here and it’s a great sight!

Just go and visit this magnificent Mount with the Abbey in the middle surrounded by little shops and restaurants! The Mont Saint Michel was the inspiration for Disney's Rapunzel (birth) Castle. Parking at about €23 a day, but free shuttle buses going back and forth. Prices are reasonable, and it costs about €13 for adults to enter the Abbey itself.

Mont Saint-Michel was beautiful! A tourist attraction indeed, but worth driving for! All stories of history are well-found in this extraordinary town on the edge of Normandy. Again, a lot of people travel to this site to see the spectacular view and old streets. There are lovely souvenir shops and (pricy) restaurants. Worth visiting once in your life! The bus ride across the bridge is free, we took it towards it. However the hike back to the parking spot was also incredible!

Traveled by road to this unique World Heritage Site offering a glimpse into the history with stunning views of ocean surrounding it. Perhaps it was winter so the crowds were thin but nonetheless a mesmerizing view. Had a chance to witness live choir. Memorable.

Stairs. Steps. Stunning Beauty. This is one of those locations that’s a must see, bucket, list item. We had the fortune of being able to stay on the island overnight, which is recommended if you can make it. So much to see and say about the area. Yes, the main drag is a gauntlet of various shop, selling candies and toys and knickknacks. No, the restaurants are not the greatest of cuisine, but the food is passable. The star, however, is the Abbey and surrounding buildings.
Hard to put towards how beautiful this is. The architecture and the various rooms you see tour or each unique and are breathtaking. By my account it took 650 steps from the bottom of the town to get to the very highest point of the Abbey. There are a couple of roots depending on whether you like stairs or rather take slanted ramps. Either way find your way up there. If you can buy tickets in advance, I would recommend it. Would also recommend being there first thing in the morning nine 930, or later in the evening, to avoid the true crush of crowds, this site not to be missed and something unique on the entire planet

Amazing experience to visit Mont Saint-Michel. Walking thru the town and the abbey is well worth the visit.
There are several walking routes you can take up to the abbey, but I would recommend the main road up from the tourism office for a more direct less stairs approach. For those who want a better scenic view, I would recommend taking the stairs up to the castle wall and walking along the outer wall path.

Very very impressive place it blew my mind. It is quite touristy and a little pricey (the car park is very very expensive for campers, and i didnt feel like the museums were worth the money, they're very outdated ) but I couldnt help but keep thinking how they built this place as its just too beautiful. Love that they allow dogs and the children enjoyed it
Bekki Hughes — Google review
Mont Saint Michel is truly a sight to behold, with its charming islet and captivating abbey perched atop. I highly recommend purchasing a ticket to explore the abbey, as it offers an enriching experience with panoramic views.
However, it's important to note that prices within Mont Saint Michel can be a bit higher than expected. While the experience is definitely worth it, visitors should budget accordingly for meals and souvenirs.
Moreover, it's wise to look for accommodations outside Mont Saint Michel's walls. Reviews suggest that hotels within the area may not provide satisfactory service, so staying in nearby towns might offer a better experience.
Overall, Mont Saint Michel is a must-see destination for its beauty and historical significance. Just keep in mind the pricing and accommodation considerations to make the most of your visit.

Entry to the monetary (13 euro ) but well worth it.

"Les Rhumbs"
Christian Dior's childhood home stands on the cliff facing the Channel Islands in Granville, Normandy, not far from Mont St Michel.
Villa Les Rhumbs was built by the shipowner Beust in the late nineteenth century and was named after the old marine term "Rhumb", designating a wind rose divided into 32 rhumbs, a symbol which appears as a mosaic floor ornament in one of the house's entrances.
Christian Dior's parents bought this grand house with its winter garden located in a park in 1905.
Christian Dior was particularly fond of this place. He wrote in his autobiography "Christian Dior et moi": "I have most tender and amazed memories... of my childhood home. I would even say that my life and my style owe almost everything to its site and architecture."
In 1932, shortly after Christian Dior's mother Madeleine had died, the father, who was an industrial, got ruined by the crisis and the property had to be sold. The villa was purchased by the town of Granville and the garden was open to the public from 1938.
In 1997, the villa became the "Christian Dior Museum," unique "Musée de France" labeled museum dedicated to a couturier

Smaller than expected but a special place. Beautiful building, unfortunately the museum was closed. We were too early for the roses which would have made the experience much better, as it is a rose garden. Spectacular views!
Château de Fougères is a 12th-century military fortress situated on an outcrop, offering historical tours and interactive activities for kids. Built strategically on a high rock above the River Nancon, it served as a defense stronghold for the surrounding lands. The castle was initially constructed of wood, destroyed in 1166, and later rebuilt with stone. Visitors can explore the well-preserved castle and its medieval quarter, including Place du Marchix and St Leonards church with breathtaking views.
Very impressive castel, well preserved. There are two big parking areas nearby. The visit can be guided as well, but you need to request it at the front desk. The visit takes about 1h and a half.

It’s a great castle to visit and learn lots from. The entrance fees are attached to my review, check it out (up to April 2024). There was a bit of a queue during the afternoon shift. Consider going earlier or get the tickets in advance. They have brochures in different languages so don’t be afraid to request one. The audio guides are available in different languages too. There was a tour included (in French only). You can take up to 2 hours going around the castle and the towers. I highly recommend visiting if you’re close by. The place is also located in a commercial area so there are restaurants and bars just in front. Plan ahead and enjoy the castle!

Picturesque place, good location, between Mont Saint michel and Versaille. Entry is not that expensive either, if you're a student or under 26.
A lot of options to eat and drink.
A must visit if you like forts, and a relaxing trip.

Fantastic medieval castle - the largest in Europe. I've been here multiple times and it's always a treat but they are working hard currently to add interactive attractions which will make the experience all the more informative and educational. Totally worth a visit.

I wish I had asked for the name of the gentleman who welcomed us- he was friendly and very funny! This is absolutely a place I would recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Nice medieval castle in Fougères, Brittany, France.
Easy to visit, parking near the castle (6 eur for entire day). Good explinations in French, English, Spanish and Italian. Audioguides included in the entrance price.
Castle itself not entirely possible to visit with wheelchair.

Amazing, amazing, amazing castle. One of the best we've ever been to anywhere. The audio guide is great, though it was a bit glitchy from time to time. Lots of intact buildings, so much to explore, and it's a lovely little village surrounding, very much worthwhile wandering around afterwards up to the public gardens near the church. Highly recommend!

My wife picked up a brochure on this chateau and we went to see it on the way to Honfluer. It was set a such a beautiful old world town. It felt like going back many, many centuries. The little shops and restaurants were a treat. We even drank our freshly made lemonade looking at the beautiful castle setting. The castle was fun walking through the open grounds and up the tower spiral staircase. It took time to walk up to the top. Some people were laughing as they tried getting up the staircase to the top. It was worth the effort. The turrets and fortress walls were an enjoyable adventure. It was a beautiful day to go back 1000 years and experience the many centuries of building and destruction that took place. We had a very pleasant side trip to this very special town and castle before heading off to our final destination of Honfluer. I definitely would recommend visiting this wonderful place!

Really lovely zoo with lots of animals to see and plenty of different viewing angles around the many enclosures. Lovely and helpful staff who clearly know what they’re talking about - we watched the lion feeding time and the keeper gave a great talk! The zoo includes a good restaurant with hearty food at reasonable prices and a snack bar that’s open in July and August. We visited as a family of 4 adults on Easter Monday - it was very quiet but I imagine that was due to the rainy weather as I’d think it would be very popular in summer with sunnier days! Would definitely recommend a trip!

Went here while holidaying in France and we were glad we did. The park is very clean and all the animals are well kept and looked after. The park is split into two areas, yellow and blue. Yellow you will find the more exotic animals while the blue you will find your more domesticated animal. Both area's are great to wander round and both are easy even if you find it difficult to walk. Plenty of area's to sit and view the different animals. The price is 18.50euros per adult, a family ticket you are looking at 45euros which is for 2 adults and 2 children. Children under 3 go free, there is a cafe where you can get a drink and a snack or you can opted for a full blown meal in the restaurant. While we were there we never saw a zoo keeper, which I don't know is a good or bad thing as the animals all seemed very contented and all were on display. If you are in the area I would highly recommend a visit as you will enjoy your time here.

This was a wonderful zoo and over haloween we had the added treat of the zoo being decorated with fun haloween decorations and face painting! The zoo wasn't too big so was good to walk around with children but there was no interactive sessions but there was a goat pen to stroke and feed the goats. We enjoyed the haloween hunt to find the ingredients for a potion and the reward was some tasty sweets. A great day out with the family!

The Caen Memorial Center is an excellent starting point for those wishing to visit the Normandy beaches. This museum provides a comprehensive overview of the Battle of Normandy and its impact on people's lives. It begins by examining the origins of war and moves through the uneasy Cold War years, providing historical context for World War II. The exhibits focus on military personnel from both Allied and German armies, with personal accounts and letters providing intimate glimpses into their lives.
You can easily spend 3 hours at this museum and still have lots to see. It really gives you a solid idea of what WWII was in the region. I recommend it.

One of the best museums I've ever been to. A short and concise presentation of the events leading up to World War 2, interesting and very vivid photos and videos from the battlefields, a heart-wrenching section that described the persecution of the Jews. A museum that leaves you speechless and sick to your stomach because of all the horrors that happened back then.
The presentation of D-day events is also excellent, offering an excellent base for visiting these beaches in Normandy.
Thank you for this outstanding exhibition - in memory and an important reminder!🕊️

This is one of the most detailed war museums I have ever visited, on par with the Imperial War Museum in London. There are several sections: World War Two, D-Day, the Cold War, General Richter's War Bunker and two cinemas showing short films about the Battle of Normandy and the history of Europe 1900-1991. The Second World War section is enormous, with lots of small display cases and plenty of information. I would say that this museum isn't filled with many actual objects. Mostly, there are photographs, films and extracts from books and letters complemented by the information on the walls. The information is in French, with around 60% translated into English and 40% into German. The WWII area is split into smaller sections, following the war chronologically. There is a very sobering Holocaust section. Some of the footage and information should have a content warning, and could be distressing for children too. The bunker is sparse but interesting and the two films worth watching. I didn't visit the Cold War section because I'd already been wandering around the other sections for four hours!

There is plenty of parking and toilets on all levels.

The cafe was open up stairs with plenty of food and drink to choose from.
Make sure you go out the back and see the bunker then the American garden.

In this part of Normandy, it seems like there's a D-Day museum in every town, but this seems like the one not to miss. The largest exhibit tells the story of WW2. I knew a lot about the war already, but these exhibits were excellent, and it was interesting to see it from a French point of view.
Other exhibits tell the story of the landings and the battle for Normandy, the Cold War, and a bunker on site that was a German HQ. There was also a special post-war art exhibit when I visited.
Mark Gilbert — Google review
Really powerful place to visit if you are seeing some of the D-day places. Its incredibly detailed in documenting the lead up to WW2 as well as all parts of it including live footage of the D-day landings. Also a whole section on the Cold War and a 360 experience of 20th century world and major events- an important testament to what the world went through
David Crowe — Google review
We came here not sure what to expect.
It was a fascinating museum, covered all aspects of the build up to the second world war through to the cold war.
We spent about 4/5 hours here. The translations were good in both English and German. All the information on the walls was translated, only some of the info cards in exhibits were not.
The food was also reasonably priced and of good quality.
There is a bunker experience which was also interesting, although with young children who might be scared of the dark maybe a little intimidating.
We took a 4 month old and it was well equipped, a good baby changing room as well as very buggy accessible (there were a few reviews saying your weren't allowed to bring a buggy, but that wasn't the case).
I could come back and spend another 4/5 hours reading more, but I was aware of the audience I had brought with me so didn't push my luck.

While the staff was very kind and helpful and the subject matter extremely important, I was not impressed by this museum. The building itself is very beautiful and very large but there isn’t much to see on the inside. Most of what you do see consists of printed images, signs, and mini films.
For 19€ the entrance I expected more. Because of Covid, the bunker, the restaurant, and the gardens were closed and yet still we still had to pay full price.
I do not recommend the audio guide (4€50!) there’s so much to read and watch that it’s too much.

It is a fantastic museum if you're interested in the second world war including the events of D-day. The entire timeline is clearly explained. It's incredibly moving and sobering (I found it difficult to walk through the section related to the concentration camps). We spent almost 5 hours walking through it all.

Overall a fairly good museum but on balance it has more photo and video than actual exhibits.
Visited on a hot day and the first part of the museum was really warm. The rest of the museum seemed to have air conditioning and was comfortable. Maybe that was because it covered the Cold War!!

One of the best historic experiences ever. Good balance between info and interaction. William the Conqueror's castle is a great way to spend a couple of hours immersed in the history of the time that William would of spent there, you are provided with a Histopad device that when you place the screen over certain emblems as you walk around you are immediately transported back to how the room would of looked like in Williams time. the castle has had a lot of time and effort put in to make it an enjoyable experience for all ages.

Without doubt the best historical experience I have been to. The buildings have been sympathetically restored and presented. Birthplace of William the Conquerer, the castle offers commanding views of the surrounding area (unsurprisingly). After major refurbishment, the museum housed in the keeps offers much to see. You can use the digital pad to view how it looked, which would be ideal to keep young ones engaged. Plenty of steps in the keep mind you, as one would expect. You can visit the courtyard (inner walls) without a ticket.

This is an experience unlike in almost any other castle, and I've visited many. You get a tablet which, after scanning markers around the place, uses extended reality to show you how the surroundings looked like almost a thousand years ago. You can turn and move around with it, and it tracks your movements like in a VR computer game. The app is very well done with a lot of extra content, hidden things to find, and easter eggs. With this and all the displays, movies, and information t
You get a good feeling of how the place changed over the centuries. Of course, you get the history of William the Conquerer, who was born and raised there, and a lot more. The Memorial Pegasus is a war museum in Normandy that honors the British 6th Airborne Division's role during the invasion of Normandy. The museum features a variety of exhibits, including the original Pegasus Bridge with visible battle scars, which visitors can walk along. Admission fees are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
I was looking forward to visiting here for a long time and it didn't disappoint.
Easy to find just along the road from the working bridge easy walking distance.
There's a reasonable size car park with no fees.
We were there in September so it wasn't very busy so when in the museum part it was good to just take our time and have a good look at the exhibits which were very informative, also the video in the middle of the museum was very good we'll worth the time to have a look.
Out on the outside of the exhibition the original bridge was set up with other part's concerning tanks, guns and the like.
All in all if you are visiting the Normandy beaches the Pegasus bridge is a must.

So much information about the courage and tenacity of the British army in attacking this bridge, to see so many actual uniforms and medals of the troops involved.
The fact that arms and equipment are still being found around the area is witness to the scale of the fighting.
Not to be missed, see the reality not the film.

Most definitely worth a visit. The taking of the Pegasus Bridge was an amazing operation, the first step on DDay for getting troops established in France. Arriving in gliders these soldiers set off a chain of events that ultimately freed France of 5 years of Getman invasion. The museum dedicates itself to the bravery and loss of men (particularly British and Canadian - but not exclusively) who secured the bridge. A huge section of which now stands in the grounds. There's a replica glider, vehicles and various war relics outside. Toilets, carpark (no height barrier) & gift shop. English and French speaking guides. 2 minutes walk across to the present bridge and monuments where the gliders landed. €9 entry.

Few people still know about this holy place and for many it is still undiscovered ( I had a small trip from Paris to Lisieux by Train for one day) . This building is about a hundred years old and Pope John Paul II visited it for the first time. The type of building is a combination of modernity and traditional architecture with granite stones and paintings, as well as a large dome with the ability to reflect sound in the centre of building, At the top of the hill, beautiful and quiet and easy to access (on foot or by car) with parking and a boutique.
(I still don't know why different types of stars are used in the exterior design of the building)

Always an interesting place to bring visitors. An impressive structure with very nice parking area and easy access to the basilica. The mosaic work is incredible.

Beautiful and very imposing basilica finished in the 1950's and dedicated to the life of Saint Therese. Be sure to visit the crypt and the tableaux which commemorates the stages of Saint Therese's life from birth to her death at the age of 24. All entries are free.

This church has great access for handicap entry.
Her whole life story is shared in pictures of her from childhood through her years in the cloister.
There is a gift shop there for those who would like a memento.

The Basilica of Sainte-Thérèse of Lisieux is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. Located in Lisieux, France, the large basilica can accommodate 4,000 people and, with more than two million visitors a year, is the second largest pilgrimage site in France, after Lourdes.
Thomas Jeyakumar Joyel — Google review
One of the most beautiful basilicas I have ever seen!! It is well worth the extra walk up the outside backstairs to the stations of the cross. That you will find the burial site of St Therese's parents.
Richard Ferris — Google review
This is a large building dedicated to St. Teresa of Lisieux. There is a lot to see on the site beside the church itself. Inside the church is beautifully decorated with mosaics of many saints and holy images. Because of the size it wasn't crowded or noisy inside despite the number of visitors.
I would have liked to have been able to spend a couple of hours here but wasn't able to.
Zoo de Cerza is a wildlife park that offers an exciting experience for visitors. It features a variety of animals including big cats, rhinos, kangaroos, and reptiles. The park also provides lodge accommodation for those who want to extend their stay. Visitors can enjoy up-close encounters with the animals and even have the opportunity to feed some of them. The park has well-maintained walkways and new features that enhance the overall experience.
Fantastic Zoo. Penalty to see and do. It is great how close you can get to the animal. Would definitely recommend a visit
Chris Ransom — Google review
Had a nice time at the Safari park. The day was cold and blustery and some of the animals were sheltering from the wind so didn't make an appearance. However we really enjoyed seeing those that braved the weather. The park was clean and accessible and there has obviously been a lot of work building new features, such as walkways, and maintaining existing ones. I recommend a visit, but maybe on a warmer day. Our highlight of the day was definitely the Gibbons' acrobatics! 🙂

Absolutely wonderful healthy looking happy animals with incredible huge habitats. The two walking routes allow you to see everything in an orderly way (save at least 3.5 hours for the two) and the walks were not strenuous (my 3 year old coped fine). The giraffes come right up within 20cm of you, the tigers also come very close and it’s honestly the best zoo I’ve ever been to. All the animals in Cerza have been bred in captivity but have fantastic homes with a lot of space to be away from the public when they want to be.
Charlotte Moseley — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place. We spent all day here with 2 young kids. Under 3's are free and adults are only 23 euros each. There's 2 different routes with lots to see on each and you get much closer to the animals than any other zoo I've been to. The red route is definitely easier to navigate than the yellow one. There's also a train which takes you round different parts of the park you don't see while walking which is included in the price . If you're in the area then definitely make the trip you won't be disappointed.
Mark Farquharson — Google review
Probably the best zoo/animal park I've been to. Huge enclosures for animals, but then pathways are well designed so you can see them. My advice with small children: walk the yellow path first (about 2 hrs), then see the red path on the "train", it covers a similar area.
Dino Scaramanga — Google review
A nice open zoo with large area’s for the animals. The red path is a bit more difficult and steep to walk with a stroller but certainly doable. The safari train is loud and only shows a few animals there not visible from the path.
The burgers with fries I wouldn’t recommend, the fries were flat and the bun a bit soggy.
Joris Spruyt — Google review
The best zoo I have been so far. It is huge, you can spend an entire day here without getting bored. It’s also surrounded by the nature, not like those in the city, so it brings more atmosphere to the zoo. You can find any animal here and get close contact with them. The entry price is worth it, for all of the fun it can give you here!
Zhen Yu (BlancoBear) — Google review
Great experience at Cerza zoo. We never though it was possible to make a safari in Normandie
Very positively surprised: a lot of animals in a very large park. A lot to see, the little train is always appreciated by the kids and everything is clean and well organized.
Recommended!

If you are in the area or even passing by, this zoo is well worth the visit. The price of the ticket is relatively cheap for all the extras on offer - train rides, feeding animals and a petting area for the kids. We were lucky enough to have had the chance to hand feed the giraffes which in some zoo’s can cost hundreds. An amazing place and look forward to visiting again next year.

Have visited many Safaris in UK in the last 20 years but this one stands out by many factors. I must say, never been to so many amazing animals that close. So much variety of animals. Foot safari is so amazing and exceptionally well facilitated by making high level platforms, bridges, viewing areas and walking routes.
Just amazing. Full marks
M. Fawad Ansari — Google review
Incredible safari park! It's beautiful to see how well the animals are doing. No apathetic behaviour, just animals living in semi freedom. All other zoo's should look at this one to see how they should build their park and care for the animals. There was one big irritation factor, wasps everywhere. Really annoying. But that is not something you can control in summer in France.
Known for its diverse ecology, this expansive bay features sweeping views & a nearby nature reserve.
Lovely bay with wildlife and beautiful scenery. The place is quiet with few people despite the location.
At low tide you can see the seals in their natural environment.
Be careful to check the tide times if you go far from the coast as there is a risk of being trapped by the rising tide.

A beautiful spot for a walk but it is a bit if a trek to the beach and especially to the sea with young children. No seals when we went and we were told by a local that he has only spotted a seal once in all the years he has been visiting. Remember to take drinks as there is nowhere nearby to get a drink but parking is free and there are toilets.

Château de Compiègne is a grand 18th-century palace with a rich history, having served as a royal residence and hunting lodge since the 14th century. The neoclassical palace boasts imposing exteriors from the reworking done by Louis XV, while the luxurious interiors are largely attributed to Napoleon's influence during the First and Second Empires. Visitors can explore historic apartments and two separate museums within its walls.
We loved the museum's collection and gardens. Amazing pictures, statutes and breathe taking rooms. Good price for the tickets to. For a group of 5 adults, 4 children and a toddler we paid only £27.
Definitely worth the visit as we've been really impressed with how those people could preserve all those historical items, cars, furniture and so on.

The Museum of the Great War, an up-to-date establishment created by Ciriani, showcases both military and civilian memorabilia from World War I. The museum provides a pleasant experience as there are plenty of intriguing artifacts on display and a well-planned timeline. Additionally, the informative film about the conflict adds to the richness of information provided in this excellent museum. Notably, there is also a good account of the castle's historical background presented in conjunction with its role during WWI within the museum.
Excellent museum full of interactive activities and memorabilias available. Good for all generations.

The highlights were Otto Dix's graphical work, depicting the horrors of the trenches. Five stars!
And then the movie at the entrance, going through, summing up the patchwork of alliances and unions of countries, kingdoms, states that existed / made up a very different picture of the Europe we know now. Interesting!
The rest resampled a motley collection of uniforms and curiosities.
Jan W — Google review
An excellent adventure into the minds and lives of those who fought in and lived through the great war. Also, comparing the recruitment strategies used in their desperation to the American recruitment strategies was very enlightening and a bit funny.
The Dix collection is a must-see: it privides a raw, heart-rending venture into the tormented mind of a brave soul who fought both enemies internally and externally. I am truly grateful to have experienced this. (Out of respect, I did not take pictures, plus I may have been a little rattled).

I found the building in which the Museum is based more interesting than the Museum itself. The cafe was closed when we were here (not mentioned on the entrance sign, it's being rebuild), and interactive displays were turned off due to Covid, including VR headsets, bit strange since in the Verdun Museum, similar headsets were active and cleaned.
Was hoping to see a bit more interesting stuff, but felt more like a library, lot of empty spaces and no character. Boring imo.

Fantastic museum at Peronne. It's well worth visiting.
Really informative exhibits, and a few bits and pieces can be touched and encouraged to try on, like helmets & body armour.
I'd recommend buying a joint ticket with the Thiepval Museum as it is a lot cheaper to get them together; they also offer a discount for service personnel or veterans.
There is a free car park outside and many restaurants on the main square just in front of the main entrance.

This is a really great museum and a lovely facility for visitors to Peronne. The castle’s history is interesting in itself and the WW1 exhibits, films and collections were just what we wanted. One 30 minute film was only in French but not sure what we could’ve done about that! Otherwise English and German translations were available. €10 entry for adults. Bike racks would be an improvement.

It is a good museum for familys and children. It never gets too bloody (except for the part by the german painter...hush hush kids) and it has a good storyline and explains many things in a way which is easy to understand.WW1 nerds and techfreaks will probably miss some hardware and more tactically orientated storyline. They can take it as a supplement to other places ,and enjoy the exhibitions of uniforms plus gear. The museum-shop has a lot of cartoons (plus books and stuff) about the great war in French.
Carrière Wellington is a site of historical significance that features underground tunnels which were strategically used in 1917. The location offers guided tours and exhibits that provide detailed information about its history. Visitors can enjoy an educational and engaging experience with attention paid to small details to ensure a smooth visit. Guided tours are available in both French and English, with the guide effortlessly switching between languages to cater to their audience's level of understanding.
One of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time. Educational and engaging. One can notice that lots of attention has been paid to the small details to offer a smooth visitor experience.
The guided tour was offered in French and in English with our guide switching effortlessly between both and adapting the level of the explanations to the audience. We had kids with us and they were able to follow and understand everything.
The audio guides fragments provide complementary explanations and are nicely woven in the visit between the guide’s explanations.
All in all, a must do if you are in Arras!

Be sure to visit the Wellington Tunnels if you are in Arras. After a short tour above ground, you go down in a lift to the tunnels. From here there is an audio guide as well as information for the tour guide themselves. This is a fantastic attraction. Medieval quarry that was forgotten and then rediscovered during WWI, which allowed the British to interconnect a whole swathe of quarries, under the Arras region. The tour is well-thought out and uses projectors and headset, to give information and act out soldiers' letters home, to really give a feel for what it must have been like, whilst waiting for the whistle to blow for the eventual attack that was launched on the German lines there. A worthwhile visit.
The Louvre-Lens Museum is a contemporary gallery that showcases artworks from the Louvre in Paris, as well as temporary exhibits. The Galerie du Temps offers a unique and minimalistic display of art from Europe, the Near East, Egypt, and India. Unlike traditional museums, the artworks are not hung on perimeter walls but are arranged geographically and chronologically to create a three-dimensional experience for visitors.
Loved this, a capsule collection almost - showcasing world history in an accessible way, with some English interpretation boards. Free entry for all and a lovely little gift shop. Outside there are further boards explaining the history of the site as a coal mine, with a view of the famous pyramids of coal waste. Inside there is also a model of the site as it was as an industrial coal mine.

I had always wanted to visit the Louvre-Lens and I finally went on a Sunday. The bus lines were not running, so I had to walk from the train station. It is a very long walk, longer than what they advertise on the museum's website. The museum is in a beautiful building, and the visit is relatively short. They have relatively few, but very interesting works of art spanning several centuries. The gallery is one large open space, and I noticed kids get less bored with this configuration compared to a regular museum. The indoor picnic area is quite convenient, I strongly recommend bringing your own food. Oh, and it is free. Worth a visit!

This is a wonderful place to visit. I loved it! The very open plan design of the museum was so inviting and the special exhibition of Fantastic Animals with the masked attendants in the foyer was spectacular. I would have given the visit 6 stars out of 5 were it not for the dreadful parking facilities. We drove around the nearby residential streets for way too long (the offsite recommended parking lots were small and full). If you build it, they will come. If they come, you need to provide parking.

The Menin Gate is a British war memorial located in the town of Ypres, Belgium. The gate is inscribed with the names of 54,896 military personnel who have lost their lives in battle here during World War I and II. It serves as a place of remembrance for those who have died, and it is also the location of a daily Last Post ceremony.
Excellent a sobering experience to see so many names from so many continents called to war.
There were pipers who marched though this evening and we listened to the last post. A truly humbling time on a beautiful sunny evening.

The site is undergoing maintenance for all of 2023 so the gate is covered with scaffolding.
The site is astounding and worth a visit if you're in the city.
Every evening they pay tribute to those named here and lay wreaths to the fallen with buglers performing the last post. This tends to get very busy so be sure to arrive early.

Was such a great atmosphere! The evening last post ceremony was incredible and something I will never ever forget. Would definitely recommend watching the ceremony as it's amazing to witness. The only reason for the 4/5 instead of 5/5 stars was because unfortunately when we visited there was scaffolding up but that can't be helped-hoping to visit again when the scaffolding is gone!

A very sobering experience. To see the 50,000+ names makes them people and not just part of a statistic. The remembrance ceremony at 20.00hrs each day is very well done, is somber, and they do ask people not to applaud.

So, many names of those who have no known grave and from so many different nations.
It is a sobering experience just to see so many names, ranks, regiments.
On the right hand side (if approaching from town) and just before you go under the gate there is a slope, if you walk up there you can find the Indian and the Ghurka memorials. There is also a fabulous scale model of the Menin Gate with Braille panels for those with a visual impairment.
You won't be disappointed and if in the area it is a must see monument to those who gave their tomorrow's for our today's.

The region is bustling with activities, including redbrick houses, trendy cocktail bars, and restaurants that serve outdoor dining. Notable landmarks in Vieux-Lille include the medieval Hospice Comtesse Museum, Porte de Gand monument, and the impressive Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille Cathedral from the 19th century.

The heart of Lille! Great place to walk around and feel the city's vibe. There is always something going on here, and big events such as the Xmas Ferris Wheel and the Video mapping Festival are held here.

Amazing place to visit during Christmas season.
Beautiful vibes, nice decorations, yummy food and games for adults and kids.
Moreover, the architecture of the buildings is spectacular.

Very beautiful, the beggars can be annoying, don't give them anything and pay attention to your bag cause they can have one sneak behind you to steal stuff from your bags. Otherwise enjoy this place.

Pairi Daiza is a 65-hectare park located on the grounds of a former Cistercian Abbey that houses over 5000 animals, including lions, pandas, koalas, gorillas and lemurs. The zoo features geographically themed areas inspired by various regions around the world. Visitors can explore recreated African stilt villages, East Asian temples and the largest Chinese garden in Europe.
Its a wonderful place, we enjoyed every minute in the zoo. Everything is tight and in order, nice restaurants and the most important thing, the animals look great and well maintained. My boys were excited to see pandas, wolves, bears, lions, giraffes, tigers and many more wonderful animals.

This is one of the most beautiful zoos in the World. We actually stayed here with the polar bears for a couple of nights and it was simply breathtaking. I have to say that for me the best part was the bats. It was simply amazing to be in there with them while they flew near you in all directions; this was superb. Plan on being here for at least a couple of days, there is so much to see and you don’t want to miss any of it. It took us two days to see everything and then spent the third day seeing all the things we loved the most. The park is simply beautiful and very clean. All the animals look happy and they have plenty of room to roam around. I can say that the food prices are a bit steep for what it is so maybe a great choice to bring your own lunch. There are plenty of areas around the zoo to have lunch. We signed the kids up to feed the elephants and this was a cool experience for them. Overall highly recommend, beautiful place.

The park is amazing ! And continuously improving !
Spent the night for the second time this year 😊 The first experience was so great we had to come back (and will come again) !
Staying in a lodge is expensive but totally worth it, because you can enjoy the park later at night and earlier in the morning, when the one-day visitors have left 🤩 The park gets calm and the animals start their night life, always a pleasure to observe 😌
Eating in the park is more than what you'd expect, some restaurants even offer more sophisticated menus, but comfort food can be found almost everywhere 😋 Don't forget location influences prices 😅
The whole park is a must-see ! But still try and plan your visits with the feeding schedule, that way observing animals is more entertaining! This can be done very easily, using the paper map given upon entrance or the app, both free-of-charge 😊
I strongly recommend visiting this zoological park, note that it has received multiple times the title of "Best Zoo of Europe" 🥇

This animal park is huge it has different worlds it has 7000 animals. We visited during Halloween there was spooky atmosphere staff in masks, music and other events, 3D light projections. You can spend a whole day and won't see everything. We had seasonal tickets for one year. Entrance is quite expensive but worth it. You can spend some time inside of the area where kids can play. There is also restaurants and many kiosks with food.

From the beautiful grand entry of the place around the whole lovely park till our sleeping accommodations at the Paddling Bear - every step was greeted by a new sight and around every corner a new delight. I thoroughly enjoyed all three days in the park, including both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant Octopus.
Unfortunately, not all the shops were open, so we had to walk all the way back to the entry to get a cup of coffee. Nevertheless, the plants and animals all around were fantastic and I would love to return during another season.

Though pricy, definitely one of if not the biggest and most aesthetically pleasing zoos I have visited. The enclosures are large, varied and well-maintained, and the animals seem to be well-taken care of. I will note that there is so much to see that you simply cannot fully experience everything in just a single day. Then again, I would very much consider another visit.

It has been one of the best zoos I have seen if not the best. Definitely worth a visit.
It has incredible themes built around the zoo it's not only paintings it is buildings and beautiful gardens. I was visiting the zoo in December and was impressed I can only imagine how it would look more spectacular in the spring and summertime.

Beautiful park. And I highly recommend staying there. You need two days to cover it all! Snack food in the park is very overpriced, but you are allowed to bring your own food into the park, so next time I will just be bringing more. Overall, great experience and highly recommend.

it offers a memorable experience. From majestic pandas to exotic birds, the variety of animals is astounding. The lush, well-maintained enclosures mimic natural habitats, ensuring animal well-being. The park's architecture and gardens are amazing, complementing the animal exhibits. Dining options and engaging shows make it a full-day adventure. A delightful family outing, Pairi Daiza brings conservation and education to life.

Omg I wish to go back lot of times to the zoo. It’s not right to call Pairi Daiza a zoo. It’s rather a royal animal kingdom. You would get to see a variety of animals, birds, ambiences and habitats as per need of the animals. The place is huge so keep some good stamina to roam around but ensure you cover everything nicely and not miss out any of the beauty preserved inside. If you wish to frequently visit, the annual pass is a better option. Time flies inside there so plan the internal stuff nicely. Make the most out of the visit. And it’s cute to see animal’s getting feeded in their lunch times. If you are an animal lover, this place is heaven for you.

Best zoo in Belgium, you can observe lots of animals in a close distance. For many of them , especially the big ones like elephants or gorillas, they have very huge place to live in. The train is one thing you can’t miss, on the train you can take a good look to the elephants domain, witch what is hard to visit by foot. The whole zoo is base on a old monastery “Cambron” and it’s beautiful. The beer “Cambron” blonde, I like it very much also.

Most probably the best zoo experience. I can imagine that all zoos should be like this - proper zones for animals, and good conditions. This place is probably the closest you will get short of a full safari. Great experience for kids. All places are built to be easily visited by kids, most areas are accessible with strollers. I recommend a full day. There is enough parking for everyone. Be sure to pay for the parking when buying your entrance.

A park is not cheap. But worth it!!! Giant! You have to come for a long time to have time to walk around and see all the animals. There are original animals that are not found in other zoos in Belgium. The guest rooms are amazing!! Worth every euro. the stay the cleanliness. And value for money.

Pairi Daiza covers an expansive area of approximately 140 acres, making it one of the largest zoos in Europe. The park is divided into different themed areas, each representing a specific region or habitat, such as the African Savannah, Indonesian Archipelago, and Kingdom of Ganesha. This place is home to a diverse range of animal species from around the world. Visitors can encounter animals like elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, pandas, gorillas, penguins, and many more. The zoo places an emphasis on providing spacious and natural habitats for the animals, allowing them to thrive in environments that closely resemble their natural habitats. Alongside the animal exhibits, Pairi Daiza features stunning botanical gardens with a vast collection of plants and flowers. The gardens are beautifully landscaped, showcasing various themed areas like the Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden, and Rose Garden. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks, admire the colorful displays, and experience a tranquil atmosphere.
These include ancient buildings, temples, pagodas, and other structures imported from different countries, creating an immersive experience reminiscent of a journey around there . The zoo is committed to the protection and preservation of endangered species, supporting various breeding programs and conservation projects worldwide. Additionally, educational activities and interactive exhibits are available to inform visitors about wildlife conservation and environmental awareness. Apart from the animals and gardens, Pairi Daiza offers additional attractions such as bird shows, sea lion presentations, and various themed experiences. Visitors can also enjoy dining options, souvenir shops, and accommodations within the park.

Great zoo! My first time visiting a zoo of this size, it took us a whole day to see each animal, amazing place, well kept and clean. All the animals looked happy and healthy. Would love to come back again soon!

Definitely one of the most beautiful zoos you can visit.
The entrance feels like Disneyland & throughout the whole park there are amazing buildings and landscapes. Animal enclosures are integrated in their surroundings.
The park has restaurants and there are places to sit everywhere.
Besides having pandas! the park has a very nice selection of animals. White tigers, beautiful birds, elephants, rhinos, etc.
The park app has a map which makes it very easy to locate everything you need. Sadly it only seems to be in French but it could be I missed a setting somewhere.
This is not a cheap outing: entrance, food, merchandise, etc all cost a fair amount of money. Bringing some drinks and sandwiches is not a bad idea.
However you can easily spend the whole day here if you want to see & do everything.
In my opinion, it's well worth the money considering how lovely this zoo is.

It is really the best zoo in Europe for sure. We stayed in Tiger house hotel, where you can see tigers from above. And we loved it.. Park is really big, but if you stay the night, then there is great service also with taking bags in reception.. and then the bags will be delivered to your room.. And the same when you check out.. just leave the bags in room, and you will get them in reception when checking out..

Actually, known as the one of the best zoos in Europe I had many expectations. And I was quite disappointed. It’s more like fun park than something showing real wildlife. It’s really cool for people looking for fun and something big, but I was just hoping for more natural vibes. And Christmas music playing around the whole area, even after Christmas was enough for me. The one thing that really gets me the wow was walrus, because I’ve never seen it. Next time, I’d prefer Zoo Leipzig, this is not worth so much money for me.

Yearly passes have also made life easier as we don’t try to do as much as possible in a day but take the time to relax and enjoy with the kids! Activities around St Nick were also fun and Christmas lights are a big hit too.

Nice and beautiful zoo and park. Many places for picnic, food corners, for chilling. And pandas 😍
Parking costs 10 euro per day and a lot of space for parking. Tip: animals more active after 15:00. Before, most of them were sleeping. Most of all we liked Chinese area, very beautiful 👍
Have a great time, guys 😉
The Grand-Place de Mons is a historical center with narrow cobbled streets and well-preserved old buildings that showcase the city's rich history. The area features a stunning main square surrounded by cafes and restaurants, offering a vibrant atmosphere for visitors to enjoy coffee, lunch, or wine. The square also boasts an engraved circle displaying the names of the 19 townships comprising Greater Mons. Additionally, temporary art installations like the statues of Plensa add to the square's allure.

The Gravensteen Castle is a beautiful, historic castle that was once the seat of the Counts of Flanders. It is now open to the public and has been restored to its former glory. It is a great place to visit if you are interested in history and architecture.
The castle is a must visit when you're in Gent.. The city view from above is captivating..
Reserve your ticket online to avoid the tickets line.

Castle is well perserved, and offers plenty of things for exploring. It is located in the middle of the city, which was convenient for us. I would advice you to buy tickets in advance. Time on the ticket should match the actual time when entering, otherwise they will not let you in (or maybe they would, but better to be on time). Nice views from the top.

A very beautiful well restored castle. The audio guide was very helpful and you could chose and stop it whenever you like. The narrative is very funny. I went here around 1:30 pm. After I finished, the cue was long to enter the castle. So I suggest if you are visiting Ghent on a day trip to come here when they open at 10 am. I was able to get good pictures of the city of Ghent up in the tower. The stairs going up is quite narrow and lots of stairs.

It's a very beautiful castle!! We visited during weekends and was very busy. The entrance is allowed only on time intervals of 20 minutes. We bought our tickets at 12:00 and we had to wait until 12:40 to enter.

Fascinating history. We were so glad we had a chance to visit the castle but the audio tour could have been much better. It tried to entertain, and I understand that no one knows exactly what went on in each of the rooms, but the droning on about everything but the actual castle's history was a waste of time. Regardless, it's fun to wind up and down the staircases, imaging what it must have been like to live here. And we loved the armory and dungeon. There are lots of steps, but worth it for the great views from the top!

Honestly, to say that I love this castle is an understatement. It's so absolutely perfect. Not just the castle, but the experience. You get an audio player that has the best narrators I've ever come across in any museum ever. The guy is absolutely hilarious and his storytelling is second to none. Further, the tour is organized in kind of like a numbered 'waypoint' based system. So you kind of feel like being inside a medieval adventurer game or a simulation. Needless to say it was extremely entertaining and full of fun facts about the castle's history and the Count and related people that lived in this castle. Highly recommended to visit. 100% worth the money.

Beautiful castle, nice for a stroll around in the sun. However, the audio tour lacked much historical education with a strange mix of child level information with adult jokes. Would recommend the audio tour.

I loved the tour. Very informative and entertaining. The castle is beautiful. For the audio tour, you get a little device and listen to it like a phone. You can go at your own pace and even when the tour is done, you can keep exploring. I would say it was worth the price we paid (less than 15 euros).
I will say there are a decent amount of steps. Nothing too strenuous, but it could be a problem for people with limited mobility.

Reason to visit this castle? I already knew this fantastic castle but my girlfriend had never been there.
Always talking about it with her, but never visiting, we decided to visit the Gravensteen.
Unfortunately it was a slightly grayer day, but that didn't take away the feeling.
The castle, which has been present in Ghent for a long time, and has been used and reused by many, is magnificent to visit.
My girlfriend could enjoy the view and the way the castle was built for a long time.
The visit itself was super good and the staff was always friendly and helpful.
From the top of the castle you have a great view over the city of Ghent.
Visit it and let yourself be surprised!
Well worth a visit!

The audio tour is narrated by a Belgian comedian, focusing on the lives of the people who lived in the castle and a light-hearted way that blends history and comedy. You can move through the castle at your own pace, instead of traipsing through with a guide. We were there on a late July weekday, and there were no crowds. I would highly recommend buying tickets online ahead of time though to avoid having to stand in line at the gate. While the castle isn't furnished, there is a torture chamber downstairs that still has some of the implements. Overall, this was a really interesting and fun to her of a really spectacular piece of medieval architecture that lets you get a glimpse into life in another era. Loved it!

Considering it was raining very heavily, I enjoyed going round the castle. There is a lot of rooms inside thankfully. Audio guides were good but could have included more history and fewer jokes. The outer wall had no hand rails and we did worry that people and especially children could fall, the drop is quite considerable.

It is a quite old castle and the main function is a castle to protect the city.
The audio guide is free but it speaks too long before entering the point, so don't pay much attention to it. The castle is very cold, please prep your gear accordingly.
At night it is quite beautiful too. If you stay around here, you can come by and get some pictures at night.

A super attraction for an hour or two that I'd heartily recommend visiting if in Ghent. It's walking distance from the centre of town and a pleasant place.
It's not a massive castle, it is simple but it has history and is well maintained. (It has the first ever chimney in Belgium!) Don't expect a fancy or big castle, just a well maintained piece of Belgian history.
Get the audio tour, and even if it is a little annoying at times you get a good intro to the building's history.

This was the first location we visited in Gent and we couldn’t be happier with our choice! If you are visiting DO NOT miss out on the audioguides (included in the price of the ticket) - there isn’t much written information around the castle so not only are they essential to understanding the place’s history but they are wildly entertaining. I’m usually impatient with audio guides but I couldn’t help but listen to each point with this one - funny, engaging, well-written and delivered, a highlight of the experience in this beautiful castle.

A lovely castle in the middle of town, easily accessible and with great views all around. The audio tour is amusing for almost anyone, although personally as a history fan I would have liked a bit more history in it. I think this is easily worth an hour of any visitors time for 10 euros

Ghent's Gravensteen castle offers a fascinating glimpse into medieval history. The highlight of the visit for me was the exceptional audio guide. The narrator's engaging and humorous delivery kept the tour light and entertaining, while still providing informative insights. Each room held its own story, brought to life by the narrator's witty personal inferences
The earlier rooms of the Gravensteen house some truly captivating displays. Impressive suits of armor and gleaming weapons are showcased in central displays throughout the rooms. The audio guide provides interesting details about the different types of armor and weapons, making history come alive. You'll learn about the challenges faced by knights clad in heavy armor, which was wooing women
I highly recommend Gravensteen to anyone visiting Ghent. The informative audio guide, intriguing historical setting, and captivating displays of armor and weaponry make it a worthwhile stop.

A castle that we would have liked to visit, being half a day in Ghent on 11.03.2024. Although I entered the official website the day before and on the day we wanted to visit it (tickets could be bought), nothing was announced. When we arrived at the castle, the gate was locked and there was a poster only in Flemish announcing that "exceptionally it is closed only today". Very cool. Four stars for the castle, zero for the administrators.

One of the best audio tours I've heard. The audio guide was informative and hilarious. It was very entertaining! We booked our tickets ahead of time so we were able to go right in. Would definitely recommend it!
Ghent City Hall is a remarkable historical landmark located in Belgium, boasting striking architecture with two distinct styles: ornate Gothic and plainer Renaissance. The area surrounding the City Hall is pedestrianized, giving visitors the feeling of time travel to the past. There are many stunning historic buildings in the vicinity and few tourists around, making it an idyllic location for those seeking quietude. The guided tours offer a comprehensive insight into this magnificent structure's history and design.
Great for a quick site seeing expedition. Very nice Christmas market over December.

What to say about this beautiful architecture. A building full of sculptures and details, all I can do is admire the work.

Ghent Town Hall is a complex of buildings surrounding the Botermarkt square. Construction of the Town Hall began in the 15th century and continued until the 17th century, but was never completed according to the original plan. The Town Hall has 51 rooms. The Town Hall symbolises the history and culture of the city of Ghent.

Everyone talks about Brugge but let me tell you Ghent we fell in love with. Same feel and look but less popular and I found to be more beautiful. Definitely stop here it is so so beautiful and romantic and a place where they captured a time way before we were here. Castles and waffles heaven. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful location and surroundings at night. Feels like time travel into the past, with historic buildings in the area, no cars due to the pedestrian zone, and only a few tourists around. I couldn’t imagine Gent being so beautiful, but the City Hall is definitely one of the landmarks.

The town hall (Stadhuis) is a great piece of art in the finest Gothic form richly decorated with statues. It looks beautiful during the day and luminates at night.

The Gothic Saint Bavo's Cathedral is a famous Flemish art landmark and the place where Holy Roman Emperor Charles V was baptised. The church is just a short walk from the belfry, which offers amazing views of famous Flemish art within the cathedral. There are also several museums close by, including Huis van Alijn, which showcases how people lived in 12th century Ghent.
Absolutely worth it to get the VR headset and learn the history of the Van Eyck altarpiece before viewing. We would have missed so much info if we hadn't. Advised to get tickets online ahead of time. If they have enough slots open, they'll let you in day of. So beautiful in person. Just breathtaking. No photo ever does it justice.

Amazing, it's like a small Vatican, the art and sculpture are quite simply superb. It is clearly much loved and cared for. Ghent is quite possibly the most beautiful medieval city in northern Europe. The architecture is astonishing. We will be returning for a longer stay.

I don't know what to say other than "you need to see this with your own eyes".
This is the home of the world-famous Ghent Altarpiece- one that has been stolen, hidden, sold, and kept safe for centuries. The history of the piece- and the fact that it even exists today, is a miracle! It is so much larger than you would ever imagine You think of it as something above the altar- something medium-sized. It is gigantic- it fills an entire side room where it is displayed!
I explored the entire cathedral, and paid the extra for the VR tour of the basement that included stories on how the altar was created, and what happened to it since it was first commissioned. I usually don't do these kinds of things but this was so informative, it was absolutely worth it. People walk around and talk to you- history comes to life, in a way that no other tour could do.
The cathedral is as massive as it sounds- and each floor and section is covered with beautiful carvings, paintings, and just decorated beyond belief. This was the very first stop of my trip in Belgium, and was my first venture out of Brussels where I braved the train and found it all on my own. I was very proud of myself, even though I did originally take their above ground subway in the wrong direction at first!
This is not to be missed, and it is worth spending more to learn everything you can while you are here. Read ALL the plaques, see all the things! And please donate some extra money to keep this in top condition. I always light an candle and leave money.

Nice church for the Palm Sunday celebration.
The mass is in Dutch.
Very nice and charming.
The mosaic and decoration are very beautiful and mesmerizing

The cathedral is free to go in and look around. To see the Ghent altarpiece you may need a reservation if it’s busy. Buy tickets online before or walk up to the desk and buy them there. The fee is 12.50 euro to see the altarpiece, the virtual reality headset tour costs more. The altarpiece is absolutely breathtaking. The latest restorations finished in 2020 have made it seem magical with the case it’s in and the lighting. Wow! There are souvenirs near the entrance to help you remember the altarpiece :) History at its best!

The cathedral is amazing; many chapels to explore aside from the capacious interior to goggle at. Highly recommend doing the AR tour and seeing the Ghent Altarpiece. There are also other large works viewable aside from the altarpiece on the tour.

Visiting Ghent with a group of first timers. Decided to finally check out the famous altarpiece inside St. Bavo’s cathedral. It was my first augmented reality tour and while it took some getting used it (only a couple of minutes) it was quite impressive. The augmented reality tour for €16 granted access to the underground floor of the cathedral where while wearing augmented reality goggles patrons are given the history of the famous lamb altarpiece. An audio clip plays for each part of the visit and then directs you to the next step. What was convenient was when someone bigger or taller stepped in front of you it was no problem as you saw the image playing at the time. The tour then ended with you returning the goggles and going upstairs to the cathedral to see the altarpiece in person. Having done the tour before made seeing the famous panels of the altarpiece that much more special. Highly recommend! Also we went on a hot summer day and we were grateful that it was very cool inside. Also, there are free lockers to store your cameras, purses or backpacks right outside the entrance to the augmented reality tour. All you need is to pick an available locker and then choose a code. Super easy and extremely convenient.

De Sint-Baafskathedraal vindt haar oorsprong in een kapel van 942 , toegewijd aan Sint Jan Baptist , oudste patroon van de koopmansstad

St. Bavo's Cathedral has its origins in a chapel from 942, dedicated to St. John Baptist, the oldest patron of the merchant city
The wealthy cloth merchants of the Middle Ages had an upper church built in 1274.
It became a Gothic masterpiece.
In 1462 the foundation stone of the tower was laid, which was completed in 1569.
Emperor Charles was baptized in this unfinished church.
In 1550 he donated a sum of money to provide the church with arched windows with stained glass.
The current high altar, made of marble, gilded wood, copper and bronze, dates from the beginning of the 18th century.
The choir contains the grave monument of Antoon Triest, one of the cathedral's greatest benefactors, and bishop of Ghent from 1621 to 1657.
The most remarkable piece of church furniture is the pulpit.
This rococo work of art was designed by Laurent Delvaux.
The most famous painting
"The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb" is housed in a specially equipped chapel.
This masterpiece is attributed to the brothers Jan and Hubert Van Eyck.
The cathedral is open every day from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
The cathedral can be visited for free.
To see the "Lamb of God" you pay €12.50 pp.

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I’ve ever been to in Europe. The detailed work is just amazing, the structure and up keep is impressive. I was just so amazed by the interiors of the church and the grotto of mother Mary is beautiful.
Parking is 5 minutes away at Centrum Parking and is reasonable.
If you’re in Gent, it’s a must visit. They do have paid tours but they’re timed.

Saint bavo cathedral, wow what a fantastic architecture and has huge history for this cathedral, spent around an hour just to see the architecture. Such a huge building in the middle of the city . So quite and nice to be here , amazed by the construction, must visit place when you are in gent , no tickets for the front hall , but to visit more inside then you need ticket , prices 9 euro per person . But I don’t recommend to get ticket. You can see from the hall itself .

It is one of the most prominent visual art of Ghent. This 89 meter high catholic gothic cathedral is certainly not to be missed. Needless to mention the amazing architecture and beautiful paintings that would leave you mesmerized. You can witness the Ghent altarpiece or the decorations of the mystic lamb here which is seen as the first major oil painting to gain global fame. The cathedral is open until 5:30pm and the entry is free so plan your visit accordingly. However there is a fee to view the altarpiece which is priced at 12,5 Euros.

Located in heart of Gent. Entrance is free, how ever if you want to see popular icon of this church, you have to buy a ticket (cost 16 euros, kid for 8 euros). Mosaic on window glasses are really nice. Also, there is souvenir shop inside the church.

Definitely worth the visit. Impressive architecture and obviously... The Altar.
MIND YOU - the whole upper half of the altar is being renovated and is replaced by a 1:1 photo (originals returning in 2026). At first it is difficult to spot and there is obvious information available. To see the upper pieces - visit the City' Museum.

Lovely and unique among the Gothic Cathedrals I have visited, and there have been many. The altar piece is my favorite part of this cathedral, featuring a stunning painting by Van Eyck (Adoration of the Lamb). There is also a great observatory near the top of the Cathedral for stunning views of the city.

Just to see the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb is worth a visit. It is a very beautiful altarpiece painted by Van Eyck's brother.
But the panel opens only once in the morning so if you want to see it open please check for the time. They also have the painting of the Conversation of Saint Bavo by Peter Paul Rubens here too.

This cathedral is a mixture of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles and is one of the city's must-sees.
It contains several works of art such as "The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb". These works of art are in a separate paying section. Don't miss it, it is impressive and you can also visit it with 3D glasses that allow you to learn about the history of the painting and its artists.

The location of the world, famous altarpiece “Adoration of the Mystic Lamb“ which was painted in the 15th century by Van Eck. The altarpiece was described in the movie “monuments men“ but that is not its claim to fame. It has been stolen by a variety of invaders, including Napoleon, Austrians and Nazis, so it is a wonder that it is still intact and now in Sint Bavo (Baafs). It is currently undergoing a multi year restoration, sponsored by the Getty Museum from Los Angeles. It is in the final stage of that restoration so some of the panels have been removed, and can be observed being restored in the Ghent fine arts Museum. Which is located in another place in town in addition to the altarpiece, which requires a separate admission fee, there are numerous beautiful sculptures and final resting places of bishops and popes, rulers of Belgium, and saints. One of the nice things about visiting is that Belgium has beautiful, artwork and cathedrals, but you don’t have the crowds here that you encounter visiting equally famous places in Paris, Munich, Berlin, or other places. If you are truly interested in European and renaissance masterpieces, this would be a must stop visit on your explorations. The altarpiece is ethereal and breathtaking. It has an aura about it. The cathedral has beautiful stained glass and is well worth 2 to 3 hours each time you visit. The local neighborhood has plenty of beer bars that you can quench your thirst after you visited.

Kinda average looking cathedral when you first enter, but some of the artwork and architecture there is really amazing. They also have a paid VR tour and other things that costs €16, supposedly it's cool, but I personally didn't take it.
Bois du Cazier is a UNESCO site that comprises two museums showcasing the history of industry and glassmaking on an industrial heritage site, along with a former coal mine. The staff is exceptionally polite and helpful, making it a must-visit destination. This historical place sheds light on the working conditions of people who provided energy for the country in earlier times.
Nice place to understand industrial changes and get some information about 1956 tragedy.

We spent most of the day here as there was so much to see. I loved the narrative guide; it was like a conversation between a lady and a gentleman personas who worked in the mine, so I found it alive and captivating.

Staff doesn't speak English at all, but the place is worth visiting, as it is the important site in Charleroi history as an industrial and mining city.

- We saw people walking around with audio guides towards the end. we were not told this at the entrance.
- The proposed tour starts with an industrial museum and then a glass museum. This is all well and good, but I suspect that most people who visit a mining site come for the mining part, which comes at the end of that tour and when I got tired of reading the non-mining stuff. Moreover, the part about the mines is very sparsely developed. The video about the mining disaster, for example, was still reasonable, but it's in a corner behind a wall, where you could miss it! There should be much more focus and attention for this, so the 'logistics' on the site can be made much better in an easy way. For a Unesco world heritage site, this should actually be much better!

Excellent! Excellent! the parking lot was full so we parked in a nearby street, the entrance fee is valuable, kind staff speaks English, toilets are for free, the area is quite large, we walked independently with an electronic guide, many exhibits are related to mines and coal, machines, industry, electricity, short the film shows the history of the mine and industry and the minning accident, everywhere was clean, the spaces for visitors are outside and inside, you can spend about 2-3 hours there, interesting even for children, there is a cafe and a restaurant, I highly recommend it!
