How long is the drive from Rennes to Nantes?
The direct drive from Rennes to Nantes is 65.3 mi (105 km), and should have a drive time of 1 hr 23 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Rennes to Nantes, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Dom. de Tremelin and Tombe de Merlin, or the ever-popular The Sculptured Rocks.
The top stops along the way from Rennes to Nantes (with short detours) are Les Machines de l'Île, Parc du Thabor, and Botanical Garden. Other popular stops include Château des ducs de Bretagne, Portes Mordelaises - Site historique Rennes centre, and Espace zoologique de La Boissière-du-Doré.
The sculpture of grotesque heads in the city of Oceanside are a surreal attraction. They were created by Father Adolphe Fouéré, who retired to Rotheneuf after a stroke and carved them into the granite cliffs overlooking the sea. The heads face out towards the ocean and may have been inspired by local legends of pirates.
Beautiful place with great views. The entrance was 5€ and you get a brochure with information on the site, which explains its origin and more of the man behind this work. They have a small gift shop too. You have further information inside and nice wooden benches to rest and enjoy the view. Feel free to take a snack with you. The whole visit can last around 30 minutes. The place offers lovely views of the sea and the surroundings. It wasn’t crowded when I visited, which was during the afternoon.
Alexa Carlos — Google review
A delightful experience, I think that the entrance price of €2.50 is symbolic, this place is really worth visiting. The view is also very beautiful and a big plus is the beach at the foot of the statues. If you are the type of person who doesn't like crowds, this is the ideal place
Sasha — Google review
Sculptures on the rocks. you need to pay 2.5€ / person because the entrance to the rocky beach is 'private'. Note the access is quite steep and if it is raining it could be slippery and dangerous. Lastly, you will not need to spend more than 5' to take some photos, at least this is what I did :)
Stavros Kalapothas — Google review
Well worth a visit. Great views and a good set of rock carvings
Keith Allen — Google review
Just a tiny bit disappointed, the sculptures are just a few and we paid €2.5 each. Really small beach and isn’t much to do once you climbed down. I took some fantastic shots with the dog and that was it. There is a cafe which is really basic, but nice view
Nusynasy S — Google review
Very cool carvings on a very beautiful rocky stretch of coast. Costs €2.50 and we loved it. No bathrooms nearby.
Mike Harms — Google review
We were disappointed with this site. It was very small, we paid 2.50€ for the entrance fee and there was very little information about the history or meaning of the sculptures. We stayed there for about 10 minutes then decided to leave. Lovely views but not the best site to see...
Anika Makvana — Google review
This place is stunning. Best, when tide is low and not to crowded.
Shoes with good grip are recommended!

Beautiful location off the beaten path from St Malo.
A couple of euro entrance fee and very small. Just the one rock that has the Sculptured Rocks on it.
Great views and a very nice area, worth a look if you're in St Malo or nearby but limited to visit as a stand alone day out.
The nearby town has some nice places to get food and drink. There is an expensive terrace restaurant (Benedit) overlooking this

A beautiful beach with oysters and shells. There are rock-cut sculptures that blend in with the overall landscape. Nice place for a short stop.

Tombe de Merlin, located in the Paimpont forest, is a remodeled neolithic woodland burial site that is believed to be the final resting place of the legendary wizard Merlin. The forest is also associated with figures like the fairy Viviane and the Knights of the Round Table. Visitors can explore various sites related to these famous figures, such as Merlin's tomb, the Fountain of Youth, and the Vale of No Return.
A bit crowded in high season, but overall a great place to visit.
La fontaine de jouvence is just few meters away, you can visit both at the same time
Yaelle Ga — Google review
First off, this is not a French Stonehenge but it is a well worthwhile stop while traveling through the area. Parking is free and caters for a good number of vehicles. There is a forest walk that takes you to the visitors centre experience which is paid for but you can just do the walk and use the toilets.
The stones are set in a wooded glade, some horizontal but many standing.
There were a few people milling around but you can generally find an angle without showing them for pictures.
Chris Simmoms — Google review
Zeker de moeite waard om even te stopped.

Wonderful spot, and free to visit. On top of which it is a stones throw away from the spring of eternal youth. Of which he seemingly chose not to avail himself.

A beautiful walk to see this historical mythic spot. You can encounter other magical or intriguing sites along the path to see it, including the forest itself. There is a board in English and French describing the lore of Merlin’s stone at the sight. Come with a little gift if you want to make a wish ;)

Don't waste your time and rather visit Dinan or Saint Malo!
A pair of stones and a muddy pound it's what you will find as a Merlin's tomb & youthful fountain 🤣 it's s joke to get it as a touristic place because it's not even conserved & take cared.
I really don't recommend to spend the time to go here.
Located at the 3rd place of Bas des Lices in Rennes, this crêperie specializes in galettes with Mordelles flour. The prices for their first galettes range from 10.20 euros to 19.90 euro, making it a good value option for budget travellers. Besides fresh groceries, they also sell pastries and coffee.
A nice calm Creperie near the market. I went there for dinner and was very delighted by the food. Both the traditi bacon Crepe and the caramel crepe (for dessert, of course!) were great and satisfying. The price was affordable and the service was also very good. Food arrived super fast. Definitely recommend!
Ronativ — Google review
Great market to find fresh produce.
You can find everything from fruits and vegetables to freshly caught seafood to cheeses and meats as well as some local specialties.
There are also some foodstands that sell meals made on the spot like couscous or chinese food.
We also found the cutest flowers and plants vendors.
If I lived in Rennes this market would definitely be my go to destination for food shopping. Highly recommend.
Wafaa Huss — Google review
Even though I had read up on this market before our trip, I was not prepared for how amazing it is! It is so worth it to plan a trip to include a Saturday morning in Rennes, just to experience this market.

All fresh and km0.
It really gives a city like Rennes the feel of an small village.

This sweet little restaurant has a rustic and classically French feel. The service is great and staff are very friendly, and the food is absolutely fantastic! I had the best dessert crêpe of my life here: L'Insulaire, with rhubarb jam, raspberry coulis, and chantilly whipped cream. Amazing!

Parc du Thabor in Rennes is a large, landscaped garden with aviaries containing non-native bird species. It's close to the city centre and is a great spot for couples on a romantic break. The gardens feature beautiful roses and an aviary with parrots, doves and songbirds.
Beautiful park with a lot to see. The park has a mix of formal borders and arboretum. There is a bandstand with regular shows over the summer. A Japanese style pagoda birdhouse has cockatiels and lots of other birds while a farmyard area has chickens. Lots of interesting sculptures are dotted around the gardens. There is also a vegetable patch and rose and dahlia show beds.
Lynda Barron — Google review
The parc is very big and beautiful.

Loved it so much, so peaceful, quite a pleasure to come and relax and look at the birds. Also, loved the ping-pong tables, it's super fun to play table tennis outdoors, under the shade of the trees.

A great park situated in the city. Many open spaces, walking paths, gardens, and even animals. The botanical garden is really nice. The Orangerie is a magnificent building. Excellent park for a picnic.
Bill Allan — Google review
I enjoy parks!
And when you say the word Park, better to give it a value: indeed, this park is composed of several spots, including a nice garden with large fountains "Jardin à la Française", a Café, a botanical garden with a diversity of plants and flowers, each named after a celebrity, a playground for kids, a table tennis is also available, and so.
The park can be done in like one or two hours, and you can choose your best spot within, then relax, and spend a couple of hours or the rest of your day; depending on how much you seek nature and relaxation.
Patrick Kattan — Google review
First place to visit in Rennes, especially when the roses bloom. But there are flowers all year round there + magnificent trees + nice statues, marvellous views, fountains, even small waterfalls, lots of birds, wild or domestic, etc. Place to picnic and enjoy the sun in summer...
Igor Berezhnoi — Google review
Beautiful park on the edge of the city. You can spend a short time to walk through or stop a while and enjoy the ambiance. We found plenty of seating available to enjoy our packed lunch in park after having enjoyed walking between the vast array of flora.
If you in Rennes put it on your list to visit.
The 15th century gatehouse with a barbican and evidence of a drawbridge is the best historical remnant of Rennes city walls. It's located in the old town area, making it an ideal photo spot and great place to walk and relax.
It looks very good after restoration

Really cool massive medieval site, a must-see in Rennes, near the Cathedral (that you must visit too, very majestic)
Julien RAGAS — Google review
You would never find this place without a recommendation, but it is a gorgeous, welcoming little restaurant with delicious crepes. The staff -- which seemed to be a family to me -- were warm, polite, and forgiving that our party did not speak a lick of French. This little back alley (literally) creperie is surrounded by many busier, happening ones (we joked that this area must be "the creperie district"), but Mordelaises is a true gem.
Michael Morrissey — Google review
A very interesting and well-preserved historical architectural medieval artifact. It helps the imagination and stimulates interest in the history of Bretagne and France as a whole. The building went on throughout the tenth century. Gate through passage, the remainder of the fortress walls of the city of Rennes. It was the main entrance to Rennes. Named in honor of the city of Mordelles. Mainly served as an entrance for processions. Equipped with a movable bridge, which is preserved. Very essential impression. There is information on the stands, however, only in French. But the name of the street is in Breton :)

The majestic Parlement de Bretagne is a historic building in Rennes, Brittany that once housed the parliament for Brittany. Today it houses the Court of Appeal, where it is possible to have a guided tour of its 17th-century architecture. The Parlement de Bretagne has a storied history and was accidentally set on fire in 1994, but was restored and reopened five years later.

As English speakers with limited French, Sacha was a wonderful guide and gave us a brief overview in English before moving to the next room, despite the tour only being officially only in French.
The parliament itself is amazing and not to be missed, both for understanding Bretagne and Rennes. He was well received by the native French speakers. He is well versed in French and Breton history and ably (and graciously) answered all of our questions.

Happened upon it by chance but worth adding to a list of destinations in Broceliande. Truly an historic iron foundry complex, dating to the 17th century, both for French & American history. It adjoins a beautiful lake and there's an excellent country restaurant on the hill above the foundry.

9 euros per adults didn't go in. 1 coffee split into 2 cups! very weak and disappointing too.
Dramatic, restored medieval castle with several towers displaying relics, history exhibits & art.
This place is super cool. We took a tour and learned all sorts of interesting information. Loved the layers of history. Loved the views... would have liked to see more areas but we understand some are not yet restored and might be unsafe. I would be willing to take the risk, but I know they can't risk it.
Jasmine Ensign — Google review
We only had the chance for a quick visit to the castle from the outside. On this years Road Trip through France we've seen lots of castles and fortresses.
This here was another fine castle. Really has the looks of a fairy tale castle. Big and deep moat as well. A small drawbridge brings you across it where you could buy tickets for the visit. Looked really interesting and is something we will do the next time we come around.
But just from outside you can see the different parts and sections of the castle quite well. Even though the entrance itself is small, the gate and the attached twin towers are massive. A statement!
Other tower all around the castle are impressive as well. It's just a fantastic piece of architecture and a sight to behold.
On the plaza in front of the castle you will also find a war memorial, worth checking out.
France has a lot of wonderful castles. In this here is a good example in a wonderful town.

Lovely attraction to visit! The displays in the castle are beautifully arranged and very interesting. Not very accessible though - we had a stroller with us, and we had to take turns at going around the exhibits as there were steps everywhere (unless there is a lift / ramps that we didn't find).

A fantastic castle with the town museum inside. The self-guided tour takes you through several rooms in the castle up and down steep stone steps. Great views over the picture-perfect town from the battlements. €6 ticket for adults. The museum is closed for lunch 12:30 - 14:00. Don't miss the goats in the moat.

Certainly the vehicles are magnificent and the staff welcoming, but we pay for a driving course at a certain price to end up feeling like chain customers. Not even time to take a photo next to the vehicle that the instructor tells you “to the next one” for the price paid I find it deplorable. My friend was constantly being picked up when he wanted to speed up a little... result in the video he drives at 40-80km almost the whole way. On a straight line he was able to push to 120km but straight away it was picked up by the monitor saying that he was going to “trigger the ABS”. You might as well drive on the highway literally in your own car.
In short, disappointed with the service. Customer service to absolutely review.

I offered a Smartbox for 5 laps of a Ferrari to my man: with the two discovery laps of the circuit he still had three laps in a Ferrari. Apart from almost 45 minutes of waiting before getting into the Ferrari, the first lap is the discovery of the machine, the second lap just begins to put you at ease and the last lap to start enjoying!! We will come back for sure.
Next time it will be the Mustang 🏎️🏁 and for me this time 😜☺️👍

Châteaubriant is a town in western France, about 350 km southwest of Paris, and one of the three sous-préfectures of the Loire-Atlantique department. Châteaubriant is also situated in the historical and cultural region of Brittany, and it is the capital of the Pays de la Mée. Guided tour of the castle is available both in English and French. A wonderful castle in the heart of Chateaubriant. I don’t know if at times you have to pay but I did not have to pay to visit. It’s a really pretty castle to see. Unfortunately, they have something going on when we visited with animation characters spread around the grounds that definitely detracts from the esthetic of the place. Also, when we visited a wall had recently collapsed (mid July 2023) and certain areas were closed to the public. Even with those two negatives I’d still highly recommend a visit.

With all my reviews of French places, please accept that I know far too little about what's normal locally and my language skills are almost nonexistent. So: how amazing is it that attractions like this are free here?! The grounds of this chateau were fun to explore, there were a couple of interior areas to look at, you could go up onto the walls and there was a fab interactive digital history exhibit in French and English. There are so many different ages and styles of building in this one structure. You could probably go around everything in an hour, maybe an hour and a half, so it's not a long visit but well worth it. There is also the town to walk into from here and a lovely waterside park just below the chateau.

Legendia Parc is a must-visit entertainment park in Pays de Retz, offering themed train rides, live shows, and a variety of animals from around the world. The park is particularly enjoyable for families with children or anyone young at heart. With well-cared-for animals and participation in conservation programs, visitors can observe the animals being fed while learning from their caretakers. The beautiful walking trails provide ample shade and lead to stunning natural features like the gorgeous cascade on the blue walk.
Lovely park. Really enjoyed it here. The actors are really good in the "spectacle"

The park looks fresh and modern and the animals are visible in a natural-like environment. Magic storytelling is seamlessly integrated with the tour along the animals. The shows are nice with a decent storyline, surprisingly good acting and nice stages/decors and costumes. A lot of opportunities for picknick. Some playgrounds for the kids would be nice, though. Definitely worth a visit ! We spent a good five hours in the park and didn't get to see everything...

Park has a good mix of shows and an engaging storyline that leads you through the different areas. Kids loved all of this. Animals are not the usual crowd pleasers, so don't go there expecting to see lions and tigers. Anyways what the kids liked most were the impressive sized pigs.
Overall the vibe of the place is relaxed and close to wilderness. Take it easy and enjoy.

If you are in the Pays de Retz, Legendia Parc is well worth a visit, particularly if there are children amongst you (or any adults with a child's heart!) The animals are well cared for, and the parc takes part in 2 conservation programs. Do try to see them being fed as you will get the best chance to observe them, and the talks given by their carer are very interesting. The walks are beautiful, with ample shade, making it pleasant on a hot day. The cascade in the blue walk is just gorgeous. We managed to catch 4 out of the 5 shows, with different members of our party preferring different ones. "L'auberge des loups" captivated the children, while I thought"Les corsaires" was a most enjoyable romp. All in all a great day was had by all, complete with a nice meal at the "Ogre bleu". Will definitely return!

Verry nice place for the kids.
Adrian ANTON — Google review
Great 6 hours spent here! About €45 euros for 2 adults, 2 children (infant was free). Wasn't sure what to expect but it's a fairly interactive farm with lots of animals to see.
You can walk through the enclosures for some (the goats were very enthusiastic looking in our buggy for food) and buy popcorn to feed most animals, some will eat from your hands. There's not that much info or intervention from staff so it's just a wander round and have a look type thing.
There were also some activities - long slides, basic playground equipment, pedal karts, and a new high ropes crossed with trampoline activity. The age limits on everything are very conservative but generally ignored.
We followed the cleudo-style trail around the animals which our < 10 year olds enjoyed and were very keen to come again. We didn't get as far as the corn maze or museums (the latter looked a bit less impressive)

"Music Sacrée À La Cathedral De Nantes" is a sacred music event held at the Cathedral of Nantes, featuring beautiful performances in a stunning and historic setting. The event showcases the rich musical heritage of the cathedral, with its acoustics enhancing the experience. Visitors can expect to be transported by the ethereal music that fills the sacred space, creating a truly memorable and spiritual atmosphere.
The Château des Ducs de Bretagne is a historic castle situated in the heart of Nantes. Built in 1207, it served as the seat of the province of Brittany until 1941, and was home to the Dukes of Brittany for over three hundred years. Now a national historical monument, it houses the Nantes History Museum with over 850 artefacts showcasing the region's rich heritage.
After going to tons of history, art, and culture museums all throughput France, this has to be at the top. We went kind of late with only about an 1.5 hours left until close so we were only able to visit the museum and not the exhibition. There is free admission every first Sunday of the month. It was well worth the visit. The history of Nantes was very interesting and the displays were really captivating.
The amount of stairs kind of hurt as it is basically the whole castle (very well preserved) but there were lots of elevators.
You could also walk around the castle and within the courtyard for good views of the city from higher up.
Kathy Nguyen — Google review
Located in the center of Nantes, the Castle 🏰 of the Dukes of Brittany is one of the most important monuments of the city's heritage. With almost half a mile (500 meters) of walls and the Flamboyant Gothic ducal residence within the walls, the castle forms an impressive ensemble. 😯👌🏻
I recommend to visit this incredible place 🙌🏻🤗
Marco Flavio Delgado Martinez — Google review
The museum is well structured, offers a great insight on what Nantes was (its very beginning) and goes all the way to today. I think that it is a must since it makes you have a different perspective about the city you know now. Also, it’s a historic place because the duques used to live there. In terms of accessibility, I have to say that it was well conditioned too. It has access to all the floors in respective order with a lift. You have the explanations in different languages too: English, Spanish and French, which makes it easier to understand. The whole exhibition is hosted in what used to be the living quarters of the royalty back in the day and every floor or area tells a different story. Request a map at the start of your visit to keep you oriented and do the tour in the right order. The visit can take 2 hours. Last but not least, enjoy it!!

Amazing free Chateau to visit in Nantes. The grounds are beautiful and there's a moat with koi, turtles, and ducks swimming. Inside there's a cafe, a museum(need to pay for this), and the ramparts(free). We walked the ramparts and took in some great views of the area. There are a few placards around with some information about the area and the Chateau as well.

Might be one of the best museums I have been to. This was my 1st stop with the 48 hour Nantes Pass and I was not disappointed!
The Museum is set inside the Chateau with about 90% of the focus on the history of Nantes through the ages, with 10% on the caste scattered throughout.
As one would expect, most of the text is in French, but they do offer audio guides from the front desk of which I was able to get an English version. The museum is organized into just over 30 rooms that have thematic groupings but each their own individual theme when you step into a room. The audio guide is very good at giving a brief overview and then there are selectable options if you want more detail on certain artifacts.
The main highlight for me was the use of multimedia devices in a number of the exhibits which really took the museum experience to the next level. They have one unique feature that I've never seen before where you can pilot a virtual hot air balloon around the historic city circa 1750 and then set the balloon down in various areas and move around the digital rendition of the town.

Very interesting, beautiful, and well preserved castle in the centre of Nantes. Plenty of possibilities to walk around before actually having to pay entry to the interior rooms. Nice view on the surrounding area.

The design of the castle looks very unique, and although I didn't spend much time in it, yet I noticed and liked few stuff. I liked that it's surrounded by water where ducks swim and play around, which is a nice scenery, and moreover the grass down there is very beautiful where people sit and enjoy their time, quite unique. I recommend any group of people passing by to go there and spend some time around it.

It was the weekend of march 2023, the sky was lovely. I booked the ticket day for student, so the price for visiting the monument is so cheap. You should change the ticket before come inside the Castle of Ducs. It so big and large, we spent about 2,5 hours to all exploring. There is a map in the reception and the locking to put the bag and the coats 🧥. You can read the history of Nantes and also watch the short video in the museum. Outside the castle 🏰, there is the place to see the city center. Near by the Gare center.
Highly recommended for your trip in Nantes.

A must-see in Nantes! Beautiful castle with a museum inside. The museum is focused on Nantes history, it's very well done & full of interactive media! You need at least 3 hours to get through the main exhibition. I recommend bringing wired head phones for the audio guide.

Excellent museum - couldn’t tell you the last time I spent 3 hours happily exploring a museum. Great exhibits, wonderful audio guide in English and really informative. Highly recommend!

Very interesting castle musée to visit. I'd recommend to spend at least 2 hours including the Genghis Khan exhibit.
At the GK exhibition, you can borrow their English guide book in exchange for your ID.
There are locker that's free and can easily fit a 45l backpack. I think there are bigger lockers too. You'll pick up a coin from near the reception and use it.
Many of the exhibits have English but I'd estimate around 90% don't. Kinda hard for me whose French isn't up to date.

One of the best monuments that you can visit in Nante!
Here you can do all sorts of things! You can visit the courtyard of the palace, you can walk around in the walls of the palace, you can visit the inside of the palace where you will find the history of the palace and the history of the city of Nantes, like the past of Nantes in slavery trading, the ww1 history, ww2 history, etc.
It’s a must go if you never visited Nantes!

A must visit in Nantes! My visit here was during an educational activity which was for a short duration in the premises. Got a glance of the Genghis Khan's exhibit at the museum. A revisit is required in order to explore all the museums and programmes here.

The Passage Pommeraye is a luxury shopping mall in Nantes, France. It has two levels of upscale boutiques, and was built in 1843 under the direction of the architect Henri Labrouste. The arcade is adorned with ornate statues representing traditional Nantais industries, and was extended in 2016.
Beautiful christmas decorations in the passage. Better than the standard mall!

Beautiful shopping place with many stores. The wizard shop is amazing for all the Harry Potter fans
This beautiful and imaginative attraction has some of the most fantastic machines you will ever see. It is perfect for all ages and is located in a forgotten corner of the city.
Amazing place to visit! The machines are incredible and they demonstrate all of them with some people getting to ride (talks are in French, obviously, fair enough). Worth staying in the gallery until they do all the demos as once you leave each section you can't go back. The ticket price is fair, just be aware it's either for the gallery OR a ride on the amazing mechanical elephant. But you can still see the elephant up close and in action. There is also a view of the workshops and you can climb down the incredible Heron tree and see its prototypes. Check the opening times if you're going at all "out of season" as it was afternoon only on the day we visited. Highly recommended.
Caitlin — Google review
It's neat and has a lot of interesting machines to see. The machines as art are really amazing. They're intricately designed and really quite beautiful. They do shows of the machines that are displayed in the gallery, then a walk up the terrace to see the workshop and a short movie, and finally a walk along a metal tree lined with plants.
8.50 to see the gallery, 8.50 to ride the elephant, 8.50 to ride the carousel. The gallery ticket and elephant ticket allow you to go up to the terrace as well. With that said the machines movements and actions are all quite simple so don't expect any great feats or robotics.
Nick — Google review
An amazing place! This was a very special place for all the animal machines there are and how realistic their movements are. I was blown away by how big and accurate they are. There was a bit of a queue to buy the tickets so I’d definitely recommend getting them in advance. As for the prices, I took a picture and posted here too. There are different prices for individuals, students and families so take it into account. If you want to have an elephant ride, that’s extra. The elephant machine can carry 50 people! The exposition is very interactive. The staff regularly asks for volunteers to help controlling the machines. It’s perfect for all ages. Take your time to enjoy all the tour, including the construction area. There’s a video room and they show how it all started and also what their vision and future plans are. Go for a stroll on the branch too. A unique experience and view.

Amazing place. Especially to bring kids there. Lots of fun for everyone.
Tickets can be but at the door or there are some slots available on line. Place is still growing so expect more in near future.
Highly recommended place to see in Nantes

A very nice place for all types of people, singles, couples, families, and kids. Really enjoyed being there with my partner.
- The big elephant was going around and spraying water on people and everyone was following it. You have the option of seeing more information by buying tickets and going inside the building where other similar animals are found inside, which are quite nice as well. The elephant offers rides as well so many people enjoy the show from being inside and over it, yet I think it's more enjoyable to play down to it.
- The areas around have playgrounds so some people were playing basketball. Also Going to the river is nice as well.

Very interesting creatures in a cool setting. Very cleverly engineered animals and creatures which take you back to a Jules Verne-esque universe. The giant elephant is beautiful and graceful but watch out, it might squirt you with water! A must visit when in Nantes.

The coolest thing I've seen in a long time. I'm obsessed with this place and everything in it. Worth buying a ticket in advance so you don't have to wait in line. Also fun to wait around and see all the machines move but it can get a bit crowded. The green garden area is my favorite 😍

This place is a dream come true for anyone into machines and Transformers movies! The elephant machine is seriously mind-blowing, looks like it belongs in the wild. Just a heads up, the info is all in French, but they've got this cool app, "Les Machines De L’ile,"

that you can use in your language. Oh, and if you're planning a winter visit, bundle up; it gets pretty chilly. Overall, for mechanical engineers and machine geeks, this spot is a must-visit.

Very impressive piece of Machinery, all the family can enjoy those huge animatronics creatures made of wood and metal. Note that they are scheduled at specific times so make sure you check when the “things” will be wandering. Enjoy!

The Gallery is somewhat underwhelming, however the elephant ride is good fun and overall it is very good value for money. The large carousel also looked like fun but probably better if you have children with you. It was also a bit more expensive. The small carousel looked great for younger children and good value.

Great place to be and unleash the nerd in you, kid or adult :P
Running away from the elephant spraying water was ridiculously fun.
Elephant ride is was already reserved and complete for the day so we couldn't ride it but enjoyed our time a lot in the gallery and carousel anyway.
Reserving your ticket online might be a good idea in high touristic season.
bur?in u?ak — Google review
The gallery was really interesting, with many different mechanized animals. If you are lucky, you get to ride in one of the machines as it is demonstrated. We "flew" in the heron bied machine, with the audience watching us, it was a really cool experience. Children love it too! After the visit you can use the ticket to enter on the opposite site of the building and have a look at the workshop. This is also a really good spot to be in when the elephant returns from its round. You then exit through the three branch.
Maarten van Beek — Google review
Amazingly good fun, especially for pre-teen children. I would recommend the ride on the Elephant and the Gallery of the Machines, but not the Sea Carousel as the ticket only gives 1 ride rather than 1 ride per level (there are 3 different levels and for a family of 4 or 5 it costs just over 33 euro for a 4 minutes ride)
Laura Carle — Google review
Such a fantastic experience... it's like a little Steampunk Disneyland! We enjoyed half a day here, riding the elephant and carousel, visiting the machines demonstrations and the workshop. We're heading to Toulouse tomorrow to ride the Minotaur as well.

During winter it's not a very attractive place to visit. But that said, the magnificent elephant is a must-see even during g days there are no rides on it. I assume the rides are during summer when the crown is large. The suvernier shop has expensive goods.

So fun and unique! The only main attraction in this city.
Mechanical animals that you can ride on.
You should look at the time slots of the elephant ride before your visit. The ride is 30mins.
The museum will take you an hour-ish or less to finish, before you take the elephant ride at last.
Haynes Cheung — Google review
Loved this interesting interactive exhibit! My son had told me about it, so we were excited to visit. A rugby exhibition was happening nearby, and there were two carousels nearby created by the same people that if I was a kid I'd die to ride. One carousel was three in one! Three stories of carousels. The exhibit was guided, and they had older children and adults ride or run them - a giant me mechanical spider, a heron that "flew", etc. But of course the piece de resistance was the elephant. For less than 10€, you could ride on this enormous elephant in a 35 minute ride ( you have to book a time for the ride). A once in a lifetime experience! Great for families OR adults. Plenty of parking a block away in several parking garages.
Dee Golles — Google review
Really impressive and interesting! If you are in Nantes you should absolutely go there and see the Elephant and the carousel right next to it too.

Absolutely loved this place! The way they have the displays and demonstration in the shop and also for guests to try was amazing. They let you be part of the crew that operates the machines to make it move, such an interactive experience! This place is worth the visit for young and adults to experience.

Liam Sweeney — Google review
We were there on 4th September, as most of the schools already opened, the zoo was not at all busy. We brought our own picnic. Most of the animals were sleeping because of the extreme heat but I particularly loved the African plains, but 5 kilometres to cover the entire zoo on foot is ver hard with a little one without a pram, I am hoping they will work on providing electric buggies to travel in the zoo or provide good tree cover for the summer months for us to enjoy the zoo.

Edit: For some reason my review got 1 star while this should definitely be 5 stars.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this zoo. It is not necessarily one of the best-known zoos in France, but this zoo should definitely be on your list of good zoos in France. Obviously its a different scale compared to the big zoos like Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine or Zoo beauval, but there is some proper zoo design quality to be found here.
Most zoos have at least some enclosures that are not quite up-to date anymore, but we had a hard time finding such enclosures in this zoo. Even the former bear enclosure was already of a respectable size, yet now the animals got a huge and beautiful enclosure.
Our favourite enclosure was without doubt the south-america enclosure (Iguazu park): it was a lush aviary with plenty of birds, several free-roaming primate species, armadillos, margay and an indoor enclosure with free-roaming sloths and some terraria. A perfect example of clever enclosure design, interesting species, visitor immersion and efficient use of space.
In general the collection is impressive with some favorites for the general public (gorilla, orang utan, lions and a fullblown africa savannah), but also plenty of rare species (snow leopard, margay, bat-eared fox, blesbok and rock-wallaby).
The latest expansions are huge enclosures that are highly impressive. Undoubtedly fantastic for the animals and as such an impressive new part to the zoo.
We were less excited by the tiger enclosure. This enclosure was also huge, but as these animals don't live in groups we had a hard time finding the animals in the enclosure (we found one tiger all the way in the back hidden in the grass and another one pacing the fence to the side). Also the enclosure was quite open and in my opinion lacking trees that would have made it better match the natural habitat. Personally we would consider a different choice of species that make for a more attractive group-based species. We could see a nice group of painted dogs or Dholes make for a huge improvement.
So despite the big zoos in France i would highly recommend visiting zoos!

Planète Sauvage is a wildlife park located to the southwest of Nantes, offering a unique experience for visitors. The park features a safari area where guests can embark on an exciting journey and capture stunning photos of various animals. Additionally, there are marine shows with dolphins that provide entertainment for all ages. Visitors can explore an African area and stroll along a raised walkway through a monkey habitat, immersing themselves in the natural surroundings.
I advise this animal park for all family.you can bring up your sandwiches or diner over there.you can see all kind of wildlife even dolphin training.

I recommend to visit this zoo.
They have a walking route, this is not very long but you can see a wide range of animals, some are not in enclosure like Lemurs.
You can watch a Dolphin show, probably they tell you a lot about these great animals but I don't speak French, there are quite a few trainers who at the same time make them do tricks so hard to see and photograph everything but the show is great.
There is a possibility to go with a bus or with tour own car on a Safari, where you can see a lot of different animals up close.
We were here during a weekday of season, and it was not really crowded but I can imagine that in weekends, holidays or in season it will be.
There is a restaurant, the food is really good, quite expensive but if you're having a nice day with family or friends you might as well enjoy it.

If you don't like traffic jam then do not come in high season like August, before you end up complaining and give 1 star review. Overall visit was fun..kids had fun.. saw 3 cheetahs from very close and they are beautiful. Dolphin shows were amazing, kids will love it, only the big cats family is missing some cats for example : we didn't see any single male lion. There are restaurants inside the pedestrian area..there are picnic area inside the safari track.
Gabrielle Duplenne — Google review
A very beautiful parc. Divided into two parts, a pedestrian part and a car-safari part. We first did the pedestrian part, a nice walk along the beautiful animal enclosures. The animals have spacious enclosures that look very well kept. We also saw the dolphin show, which was fun. We were here on a sunny and warm day, luckily there was a lot of shade due to all the trees, lovely. The pedestrian part took us an hour and a half.
Then we set about on our safari. This took us approximately 1 hours (it wasn't too busy on the track). Coming close to so many animals was really amazing.
A recommendation for anyone in the neighborhood!

Brilliant safari zoo, perfect for families with animal-loving children! As a family of 5 we played around 120€ for a day pass. The park has a zoo-like pedestrian part you have to do first. This is very well done and there are plenty of animals to see. The safer is brilliant, buy the pop corn to feed the animals, the kids loved it. We had cheetas running beside our car!

We have just finished our 2 day/ 1 night stay at Planète Sauvage and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We stayed overnight in one of the Savannah Lodges located within the park, and with giraffes, pelicans, watoussi cows and lots of different antelopes wandering close to the water in front of our lodge.
The lodge is really spacious, and has a lovely terrace to relax and watch the animals from. We ordered the meal in our lodge - very tasty and veggie options are available.
There are two sides to the park - one where you drive round in your car (or you book a 4x4 trip with a guide, and the other side is a pedestrian area set into different geographical zones - we loved feeding the lemurs (a perk when you book a lodge!)
We visited at the end of September, so there were no crowds and you could easily see all of the animals during the safari.
Highly recommended!

Interesting place with different animals, not huge parc, so one day will be enough to see all the locations ♥️
There is a part (around whole park) where u can go on your car or take an excursion with a gide to feel all the beauty of safari! Animals will walk around your car - kids were so happy that I can't describe!!! 🥰🥰🥰
As well there is KM5 where you can eat your picnic, kids can play with goats and everyone will have fun I can promise 😉😉😉
For sure it is a "must see" point in Nantes❤️

Good experience sleeping at the Lion Lodge!
The accommodation is great! Our lodge got a master bedroom and a mezzanine with 3 single beds. The decorations are very nice. The living area has a huge glass to have a view and observe lions. The check in time was at 16h00, so we arrived at 16h and got to see lions for 15 minutes, then they all left (to eat/sleep?). No lion until the next morning. Finally, they went out around 8h30-9h30. The check out time is at 10h00.
The zoo is great. I recommend you to join the 4x4 to visit the opened area, since you will have a better view (unfortunately, the visit was only jn French).
Overall, we had a great time! Will definitely gp back! :)

A great old piece of architecture, still being repaired, wonderful views over the river and down the valley. The original château fell into disrepair and was purchased by an artist who turned it into a feature of the gardens so it's basically lots of walls and very few rooms.
