Went to see exposition but mainly for virtual reality movie “Angelų Takais” which requires to buy tickets online and better register for specific time online. Then came in a little before to see and read about Čiurlionis, watched the movie and finished looking the exposition. Would highly recommend. World level art!

One of the most interesting museums in Lithuania, it is a must-visit during your stay in Kaunas. The main exposition is related to the life and work of the most famous Lithuanian painter, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. It looks absolutely splendid, with beautiful and slightly mysterious paintings and a music hall where visitors can listen to Čiurlionis' musical compositions. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. Thank you, Robertas V.P. General Manager, BANQUEINVEST'com

One of the most interesting museums in Lithuania) You must visit it when you're in Kaunas. It is a good example of an art gallery where you enjoy Lithuanian art from the Middle Ages till the 21st century. The main exhibition is connected with the life and creativity of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. It looks absolutely great - wonderful and a bit mysterious paintings, contemporary installations, and a music hall where you can listen to Čiurlionis' musical composition. I highly recommend exploring an exhibition devoted to the history of money in the interwar Lithuanian Republic (1918-1940). These banknotes are more like a piece of art! The national museum boasts some original fabulous art deco masterpieces. There is an exhibition hall of Lithuanian traditional applied and decorative art. You can see not only some folk costumes and handicrafts but also it is possible to watch documentaries from ethnographic expeditions and listen to folk music (audio recordings from different parts of Lithuania) and video guides on wearing traditional headdresses and accessories. The museum is worth visiting 💯

Main exhibition consists of M.K. Čiurlionis paintings. You can also get a chance to see other paintings of various lithuanian artists depending on the ongoing exhibition theme.

The exhibition and the building are beautiful and worth a visit. Material on all exhibition is translated to English so you can easily understand what is going on. The extensive exhibition of Ciurlionis works is fascinating, especially if you spend some time to listen to his music.

Great place for education. Beautiful art. One of the greatest Lithuanian artists ever. Beautiful music and paintings.
Educated, well prepared, helpful and friendly staff.
There is a place for children to play and educate themselves. Not only toys but lithuanian educational toys as well.
Clean, looked after environment.
A lot of signs to know where You are ant where to go next.
VR 'Path of Angels' is an amazing experience. Happy to see art from the past to combine with technologies from today and create unique art experience.
I personally recomend to experience 'Path of Angels' firs before continuing to paintings and music. Then You can discover visuals from VR in real paintings.
Overall amazing experience. Everyone should visit this museum at least once in a lifetime, but I recomend more often.

Liked this galley. Some of Lithuanias main painters from 1900 to 1930s. Separate exhibition space for leading painter and composer Ciurlionis with a music room to listen to his symphony. I listened to a piece The Forest and the Sea: wonderful. You are only allowed to a few photos here. Cafe on ground floor. Helpful staff.

V. Putvinskio g. 55, Kaunas, 44248 Kauno m. sav., Lithuania
This massive, modern church offers aerial views of the city below from its rooftop terrace. Completed in 1922, it is one of the most impressive buildings in Kaunas and an important symbol of Lithuania's independence.
It’s a monumental Roman Catholic church. The church was consecrated in 2004, and in 2005 it was finally completed. It is the largest basilical church in the Baltic States. Its special features are high ceilings, narrow oblong windows, large capacity and location on a hill. Due to its height, it is a strong landmark in the city. At night, it is beautifully illuminated and thanks to its white color, it is very distinctive. This church has its own elevator to the viewpoint on the roof, where there is also a small chapel.
Cirrus Sanofi — Google review
One of the interesting places that a lot of tourists visit. It is located on the hill so you can see it from many places in the city. Apart from seeing the exterior and interior you can get on the roof (for a fee) and look at the city panorama sprawling around you. There is an elevator as well as stairs to the top.
Tadas Malinauskas — Google review
Sunning visual landmark on top of a hill. Fairly modern in design and minimalistic inside. You can go onto the roof to get views over the city. You have to pay for this; at the time of our visit, it cost 2.5 euros to take the lift or 1.5 euros to take the stairs. My partner said she had done enough walking and threatened me with death if we did not take the lift. The views were stunning from the top viewing platform. I'm not great with heights, but I was OK with this even though my legs wobbled a bit.
Paul Meagher — Google review
Roof access is 1.50 euro via stairs and 2 euro via lift. The panoramic view on the roof is breathtaking. And the amazing thing is that ghost-like building on the right hand side will be teared down and lofts will be built over next year, so it won't ruin the view. There are also wooden foldable chairs, so I assume mass takes place on the roof terrace on special occasions. Church is very protestant-like inside, although it is catholic.
Ilona Mo — Google review
What an amazing place! The staff are very kind and the interior is a bit basic, but they let you go up to the terrace for around 2 eur to get a beautiful view of the city.
Logan Meeks — Google review
The pictures do NOT do the size of this place justice! It is one of the most impossing buildings i have ever seen. It can be seen all over the city.

Something that you've never seen) The most unusual Catholic church in Lithuania! A very high ceiling, massive columns and very modest interior decoration. The church looks restrained. It has nice stained glass windows and modern religious paintings. The most important thing is that there are a lot of free space and fresh air. My recommendation!
Iryna Panina — Google review
Super view to the city. You can reach the top by elevator or by foot. Climbing by stairs takes about 170 steps. Affordable ticket prices. There is payble binocular on a top. Be prepared for wind. Entrance to the church is free.
One of MUST SEE in Kaunas.
Stanislav Nikitin — Google review
Modern church with top terrace. Views from above is amazing. Lift to terrace cost €2.5 per person or €1.5 for stairs. Have to visit if you in Kaunas.
Andrius Šeršniovas — Google review
How do you even rate a place like this? It's definitely worth seeing but I'm mixed as to the reasons why. The building is to my tastes absolutely hideous. If Stalin had ever built a Church it would have something similar. People state the view from the tower is great, I was so struck by the monstrous outlook I forgot to go! The interior is pointlessly austere, close to no decorations apart from a few icons...
Klaus Wanderer — Google review
very beautiful inside, be sure to climb to the top of the lift 🛗 3 € ticket 🎟 there will be a beautiful view of the city but I was not lucky in the weather, but everything was exactly full of views and took interesting photos

Akropolis is a large shopping mall in Kaunas with a variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment options. It is conveniently located near the bus and train stations and the new town, and it is very clean. The food court area is popular with locals and visitors alike, and there are a number of high-end stores including Zara, Massimo Dutti, Tommy Hilfiger.
Very clean mall with a lovely food court area and a ton of shops. Having a grocery store attached is a good feature. In this Covid era, felt quite safe as there is security at each entrance checking vaccination documents and reminding folks to wear masks properly.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Kaunas is a 19th-century Byzantine-style Catholic church. It is known as Soboras and was originally built as a military base during times of social unrest. Today, it serves not only as a place of worship but also houses an underground museum for the blind. The church is a prominent landmark in Kaunas, visible from any nearby rooftop, and is located at the eastern end of Laisves aleja, the main pedestrian street.
A beautiful church that located in the middle of huge square. One of the most remarkable places in Kaunas.

Extremely aesthetically pleasing church. Both inside and outside as I read it's recently been renovated. The church sits atop of the main street leading to the town hall and castle so if you're ever in Kaunas you should be in the vicinity.
Would full advise giving this place a visit 👀

The church looks very nice from far away down the avenue. Getting closer you will see that it is not kept in its best form, plaster is coming off at various places. But the square is nice. There is a walking tour from here every Saturday and Sunday at 12:00h.

The church is opened again. There are still works ongoing in the outside and only one entrance can be used but you can enter. Internally there is a series of paints of Jesus sacrifice, as part of an exhibition. Both inside and outside is beautiful. The refurbishment of the building, fully revealed how magnificent this building is.

Extremely impressive space, open and airy, full of light with modern stained glass and very impressive large brass light fittings sculpted to look like an array of trumpets (the clarion blast?). The parish priest (I think; the one who appears to have some cerebral palsy) cuts a powerful figure with deeply spiritual speech.

The Sugihara Museum is an interesting museum that tells the story of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara and his work during World War II to save the lives of 10,000 Lithuanian, Polish, and German Jews. The museum charts the hero's life from pre-war Japan through the aftermath of the war.
This is my favorite place in Kaunas. The museum is small but well maintained. The video, which regarding the background history and how Mr. Sugihara decided to help the Jewish people by issuing visa so they can go to the free country, was super touching. A nice gentleman’s kind action could save so many lives. It’s a valuable history not just for Jewish, but also for the rest of the world. People can choose to do the correct things even though no body is on their side! That’s is Mr. Sugihara’s spirit.

The Sugihara House in Kaunas, Lithuania, is a poignant tribute to Chiune Sugihara's courageous actions during World War II. This museum offers a compelling overview of Sugihara's life and his issuance of visas to Jewish refugees, allowing them to escape persecution.
Through well-curated exhibits and interactive displays, visitors gain insight into Sugihara's extraordinary humanitarian efforts. The Sugihara House serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion and bravery in times of crisis.

This museum, which is the Japanese consulate of Lithuania, has a lot of information about Jewish refugees at the time of the mentioned dates. How Jewish refugees suffered, how they got to Japan, and the historical development of this process are clearly revealed. I recommend everyone who comes to Kaunas to visit this museum.

Before I start looking for places to visit during my stay in Kaunas, I have never heard anything about the story of this place. But now I am really happy that I learnt so many things about the actions of these two brilliant diplomats. I really recommend every tourist/traveller to visit this place. It is like visiting a history museum of Lithuania during ww2. You will need around 1 hour or more to watch the introductory video and tour yourself around. The 5 euro entry fee is small (you can donate more, if you like) from my point of view. Bonus: It is open on Mondays, when almost every other museum is closed.

An must visit for every person who has an intrest in the second world war and the holocaust. The museum recunts the story of the japanese diplomat Yoshiara who saved during the holacaust by issuing transit visas. The museum tells his story and recrated his working room with pictures.
The only drawback is the while the efforts of individual lituinian that were granted the state of Rigutuous of the nation are extremely commented, norhing is said about the colaboration of the lituinian authorities with the Nazis in the Jewish extermination between 1941 and 1944.

I just found the museum in the list of museums in Kaunas and it is available to visit on Mondays.
Wonderful staff, taking time for a visitor with less history knowledge and educating with philosophicall thoughts.
Even very quiet member of staff - a dog, unusual element of museum for a moment.
It was very interesting to get to know diplomats' language and that historical time documentation.
Knowing history directly from documents, organisacional life desicions of the country with more authentically restored interior in original museum building.
Stronger bonds of friendship with Japan through its devoted, brave person to humanity, who tried to get to know our country. Big human with big heart in complicated time.

The Pažaislis Church and Monastery Complex, constructed in 1664, showcases the mature Baroque style of architecture in Northern and Eastern Europe. Designed by Giovanni Batista Fredianio, an Italian architect, the complex boasts exquisite decorations by Lombard sculptors and frescoes by Florentine painter Michael Archangel Palonis.
It is one of the oldest original buildings in Lithuania builded in XVII century by Kristupas Pacas for camaldul monks. Thanks to the less number of people, the original church atmosphere which has to be magnificent and rigorous could be fully enjoyed. The paintings in the main dome were depicted by Italian artists and they seem to be painted in a humble way.

Monastery with beautiful surroundings.
Monastery, that is very beautiful and quite big area wise. Entry is 6€ regular or 3€ discounted and completely free for disabled people.
The areas that you can go visit in the actual monastery are very limited and could also be more visible. Since you only have some guidance where you can go. Entry to the monastery was also a bit of a hassle to find since it doesn't look like an entrance to guests at first glance.
But the places that are available are very interesting, especially the church itself and the inside. Just be aware that holy mass is conducted regularly in the church so that you are respectful of that.
Location wise, the monastery lies in a very natural environment with a big park around it and also a lake close by. Free parking is also available right by the monastery that has plenty of spaces. They even have a hotel that has part of the buildings in the monastery.

I just had to tell you about this incredible experience I had at Egle’s Sanatorium today and yesterday. It felt like stepping into a paradise on earth! What struck me the most was the diverse mix of guests, from young adults to families with little ones, all seeking relaxation and wellness.
The highlight for me was the amazing selection of saunas they offer – from Himalayan salt saunas to infrared ones and even an ice room! It was truly a unique and rejuvenating experience, unlike anything I've ever encountered before.
The cleanliness of the place was impeccable, and despite any language barriers, the staff was incredibly polite and helpful, going above and beyond to ensure everyone felt welcome and comfortable.
And can we talk about the swimming pools? So refreshing! Plus, they had high-quality towels and even a foot disinfection machine for added hygiene.
Overall, I felt like I was in heaven! It's definitely a place I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a blissful escape. Thanks for letting me share this with you!

5 stars for the workers highly explored and 0 for the reception and administrative program. A doctor makes a program for you and after you cannot change if you don't like some activities, it's too expensive for the quality, the treatments are more showing off and pointless than real health.
so 1 star for the place in general.

I and my sisters stayed there for 5 days, at the apartment AP06. It was clean (the whole Eglė's Sanatorija was clean) and had everything we needed, even washer mashine.
The girl at the registry, her name Viktorija, was wonderful explaining everything. I would advice not to go there too early because you may have to wait for the room to be cleaned.
Procedures were good, most workers were very nice and attentive. Exercises in the pool by Daumantas B. were great, he is very energetic and fun to exercise with. Healing massage by Eglė G. and Algimantė R. Were great as well. We all liked 'Wellsystem Medical Plus' massage as well.
I would recomend one thing, to have open and close times on the pool changing room doors. Because it closes in the mid day 15:00-16:00, to be cleaned.
Thanks Birstono Eglė.

This is a sanatorium-it is not a SPA. Expect quite a few (indeed, the vast majority) of people to be present for their recovery, and senior age (75-80 probably, some 90 possibly even). It felt like a retirement home, which was a bit odd and unexpected.
The room was cosy and spacious and had a balcony, AC, tea kettle, and a mini-fridge.
All the staff were super friendly and professional, and the procedures were fine too. Just something about tea-oxygen cocktails-too much oxygen can cause quite a severe headache-that was my case, and I skipped this one after my first try, even though I had a few more sessions to come.
Parking is free and there are plenty of spaces.
The food was average-it felt like each day they were serving almost the same thing. There are plenty of other comments about it - majority it was true u fortunately.
The pool area is actually amazing. There are several different kinds of saunas there, just some of them are way too hot-definitely above the "120 standard"-in some cases it went to 50C or maybe even more + 90-95% humidity.
For those coming here with compensation from LT government, I would say it is amazing, but even some reviews say it is not :(
For customers paying full price, I would recommend maybe a different place, because the retirement home vibe was everywhere and it was really odd, with all due respect for elderly people. When my time comes-i'm OK to be there, but not yet:)

Good location. Small rooms. Very unfriendly reception and lobby bar staff. If you do not take FB, no options to have a lunch or dinner. SPA changes and cancels procedures anytime without offering other options.
Amber SPA is great!
However good location to have a walk to the city and by the river.

Egles sanatorija is the best sanatorium, where the price matches the quality and everyone here will find what they need.
An attentive doctor will listen to you and prescribe the procedures that suit you.
In a modern, spacious complex of buildings you will be greeted by cozy rooms, Great SPA , and Restaurant with tasty food.
Around the sanatorium there are picturesque views and a beautiful pine forest in which you can walk and walk.
Finely Egles Sanatorija wonderful place to keep your health at high level!

There were some enhancements over previous years:
Now most of the staff will speak or understand English, but who doesn't won't be so nice to you;
In my room there was A/C;
There is a car charger (two type 2 plugs), but it has no reserved space for EVs so it's occupied by non-EVs;
Something that didn't change:
There is a wide choice of food at the buffet all-you-can-eat restaurant, however, no one in the staff cares to explan to the ignorant guests some basic hygene rules, so be careful.
Someone was vomiting for a few days, it turned out it was due to drinking water from the pools.
The rooms kept like 3 stars hotel, not 4 as it claims to be.
The car parking is huge and currently the open area is for free, with garage for payment (5 Euro per night).

THIS ISN'T A TOURIST SPA, AVOID. Its a hospital for old people, you will be absolutely ignored here.
Literally walking around aimlessly, no one guiding. All spa treatments unavailable as fully booked. Random receptions shut.
Room has random weird dark spots on carpet. I feel completely scammed.

It is a sanatorium as stated in a name:) people come here for healing and it’s an amazing place. Clean, lovely , friendly.

Really good location, very clean, very professional stuff and facilities.
The only problem too many russians or belarusians, can't tell the difference between these two. I was surprised that they are allowed to come to places like this at all. But it looks like the bloody rubble is not an issue to the company. If one of them will be your next door neighbor, he won't fallow the rule not to smoke in the balcony and when you will come back after the swimming your room will stink like cheap pub, if you will leave the windows open. But otherwise, the facility is really nice, will come back for sure.

An amazing atmosphere and the staff will go out of their way to ensure that you're reeking all of the benefits from the establishment.

Very poor place. Went for few days spa break and come back very disappointed. All buildings apart from each other. Hotel is in one building and all procedures are in few other ones. Every time you need to put your coat on and off in cold weather.
Restaurant facilities very poor like 1960s. Only getting one small meal which is not enough. You have to sit with random people on one table which is weird.
Not recommended at all to anyone. Better leave this place alone. Very, very poor

Beautiful location and friendly and helpful staff. However Poor quality everywhere - super small ‘ luxe ‘ hotel rooms, very bad quality food ( once i as given microwaved pancakes which were like rubber and gave me stomach ache) and very unrelaxing Russian pop music, completely wrong atmosphere for relaxation. It would be much better experience just with a little more attention to detail and atmosphere, so it feels more like spa not shopping centre

An excellent museun in a beautiful region of Lithuania!! Free entrance and only 1€for an English audio guide which walks you throughout the exhibitions and the history of Alytus. Super friendly staff. We personally loved Mrs Ausra, the museum's director, who is so passionate about her work! Extra points for the lovely games the kids can play: quality wooden toys, jig saw puzzles, vr glasses (the adults will love them too!). Goodbuy Alytus! Hope we see u again!!

A must visit to learn about Alytus history. They have permanent exhibits showing how houses looked in the last centuries and another that highlights wartime periods. They also have changing exhibits and the current 2 we saw were about the cotton industry that Alytus had and right now they have some excellent paintings by a variety of artists of bridges from the region. That was my favorite part today. Not much was in English but you can still imagine what is going on with the interactive exhibits. They had a couple VR headsets and some audio and video portions of the permanent exhibits. I think this museum works for kids and adults. Thanks for the staff and their help in making our visit special today. See you next time.

Really nice place to visit, especially before Christmas to get into Christmas spirit. Get ready to walk a lot and keep warm. There are two places to get a hot drink, some chips and other warm snacks. Well looked after toilet facility. "Menulio takais" has lots of lights which were located all over the place. Although, the lights were a bit too static in most places, I missed more movement, maybe some more lasers shows, but overall experience was great, well recommended.

The best place I've ever visited in my life. It was so pure and earthy. There wasn't snow, instead it was sunny day. We visited this place to celebrate Užgavėnės (welcoming spring season). As you can se ein pictures, it's afolk tradition, wherein they say goodbye to winter and welcome the spring. Hoping that the flowers will bloom again 🌹🌞🌻.
Lithuanian people are very happy during this time. Many visitors visit this place.
The moment you enter this museum, it's a huge jungle. Go wherever you wanna go. Explore everything.
NOTE- entrance is strictly under surveillance. (During our time, police officers were there at the entry points).
Don't forget to try their "marinated broccoli and broccoli water". It's their fav. Also don't forget to try pancakes. They're very tasty.

Very large territory, allow the whole day. Great place to learn about the old Lithuanian ways of living, architecture and interior of the old villages. Lots of different things to see, a couple of small shops, a nice little coffee shop in the ‘town’ part of the museum.

This is a really good open air museum, you will be on a Journey through different time period of lithuania, while surounded by open nature.
You are free to roam around the park/museum at your own pace and enjoy the beautiful building from different eras of history.
all the historical gardens are kept nicely maintained, and if you visit during the day you can take a tea/snacks in the local shops there.
This museum if very dog friendly with lots of space for the dogs to feel free and take a break from the city.
Price wise its very cheap for the amount of things to see, we paid 2.6 euro per person, a 2€ fixed price for parking plus 0.5€ for 1h of parking.
parking is free from 21h (9pm) but close to visitors at 22h (10pm)
We visited at 19:00 (7pm) and the park was basically empty, this is why I would say it's an awesome place to take your dog, they will be able to rund free in the big fields since there's nothing else but open fields, be sure to keep the leash on or available at all time.
The museum also ofers sleeping areas that are available through booking.com, we didn't book it because of some change in planing, but from what we saw the sleeping areas (visitors can be outside all day) seem very nice, the exception is that you dont have private bathrooms nor a kitchen, wifi is also not available.
overall it was a very nice Museum, and I would call it a park.

Big are filled with rural buildings. Hint to visit that place is riding with bicycles or buy car ticket (30€) and drive throug. There are rural building complexes from different regions: Dzukija, Suvalkija, Zemaitija, Anykšciai and one town center. Dwelling-houses, stables, granaries etc. Windmills also. Good museum. Local museum workers help and explains when you have a questions.

It is a beautiful huge park and you definitely need a whole day to see the whole area but it is a really nice showcase of the buildings during previous times. The buildings were beautifully maintained and my favourite part was the gentleman doing the scarfs, aprons etc live in one of the buildings. I would recommend to bring your own food as we had the bad luck of being there when the cafe was closed. There are plenty of picnic area. I would recommend a bit more of interaction between the people sitting there instead of them (most of them but not all) just being on their phone and appearing unfriendly and unapproachable.

Amazing place to visit. If you are interested to travel back in time, then you must visit this museum. Good weather recommended for the best experience. Prepare to spend here about 4 hours at least. You can take some food and drinks with you and make a really great picnic here. This museum represents 4 main regions of Lithuania: Zemaitija, Aukstatija, Suvalkija, Dzukija. You'll see interior and exterior of houses which is common to each region. You'll see in this museum how rich people lived, how poor people lived, which tools they were using for work and household. Lots of interesting stuff. So if you tired of the city and would like to spend a day in the countryside this is a place to go. The ticket price is 8 EUR.

A fun ride. If there's anyone seeking some soft adrenaline this place is a must go. There are few options with monster trucks, to drive with a driver and to try driving yourself. We went for the first option and it was very fun. There's also racing cars around and you can drive with them. The sad thing is, the prices. It seemed pretty expensive at first when buying the coupon, but then when arriving they asked to pay 30 euros more because of rising gas prices... While it's understandable it is also absurd..

Trakai Island Castle is a picturesque medieval fortress located on an island in a tranquil lake. It was constructed around 1400 to provide stronger defenses for Grand Duke Vytautas. The castle is characterized by coral-colored brick towers and serves as the home of the excellent Trakai History Museum, which displays various artifacts from past eras including chainmail, medieval weapons, embroidery and glassware. During summer months, the castle's courtyard becomes a magical stage for concerts and plays.
Very beautiful place. Exactly in hot weather I am very recommend to rent a water bysicle and go across the island around the castle. I will love it, I promise you. For renting any water attraction you need a cash! Souvenirs in front of the main bridge to castle supports card payment. All restaurants also support cards.

Cute little castle on an island in Trakai outside of Vilnius. We went on a Sunday and it was remarkably quiet and peaceful.
You cross a bridge over the lake to get to the castle island. You can then either pay for a ticket to see the castle or you can simply walk around the perimeter of the castle. We were short on time so we opted for the latter. We walked around the outside and didn’t see a single person in the middle of the day on a weekend.
We also got to enter the main castle gate and have a look at the courtyard without paying for a ticket.

This is a lovely castle and certainly worth a visit if you are staying in Vilnius or surrounding area. It makes a great day out. There is ample parking in the town and the castle is an easy walk. All the usual tourist souvenir shops are on the way.
The castle is in excellent condition and has a large number of exhibits from around the area over the centuries. This are arranged in the rooms, mainly in the main keep. They cover different periods in the castle’s history.
You can walk all around the castle, both around the outside and within. You can even rent a boat and go right round the outside. Some of the views across the lake are really nice, though there is nothing that really stands out. The gift shop is really good and actually cheaper than many of the market stalls in the village. I would certainly recommend a visit.

The Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights in Vilnius, Lithuania is a very sad but important museum that tells the story of Lithuania's occupation by the Soviet Union and the resistance movements against it. The museum houses a vast collection of artifacts, photos, and prison cells where many Lithuanians were tortured and killed after WWII.
I can't say enough good things about this museum. A person could definitely spend an entire day here, soaking up all of the history. The best word I can use to describe it is emotional. The museum itself is very well kept, clean, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. There is also a great selection of books that you can buy at the ticket sales window.

Very interesting museum. The most thrilling and atmosphere part is basement where prisoners were kept. One of the most interesting aspects is that there are a lot of similar places still functioning in Belarus or Russia, so if you want to know what political prisoners have to deal with in those countries - just visit this museum. Also very interesting exhibition is located on 2nd floor where you can see the equipment that KGB used. Lots of devices like metal detectors and surveillance equipment.

Title: A Fascinating Journey into History at the KGB Museum in Vilnius
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recently had the opportunity to visit the KGB Museum in Vilnius, and it was a truly enlightening experience. The museum provides a glimpse into the dark past of Soviet occupation and the atrocities committed during that era.
The most captivating aspect of the museum was undoubtedly the basement, where the cells, torture rooms, and execution chambers were located. Exploring this area was a chilling and thought-provoking experience, as it offered a stark reminder of the harsh realities faced by individuals during that period. The museum has done an excellent job in preserving and presenting this part of history, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the struggles endured by those affected. The basement section deserves special recognition for its authenticity and the emotions it evokes.
The exhibits throughout the museum are informative and well-curated, providing a comprehensive overview of the KGB's operations and the impact it had on Lithuania. The artifacts and photographs on display serve as powerful reminders of the oppression faced by the people and the resilience they demonstrated in the face of adversity. The museum effectively presents historical information, and the audio guides are a valuable resource that enhance the overall experience.
The staff at the KGB Museum were knowledgeable and approachable, willing to answer questions and provide additional insights. Their passion for preserving history and educating visitors was evident, and they contributed to making the visit informative and engaging.
One aspect that could be improved upon is the layout of the museum. At times, the flow of the exhibits felt a bit disjointed, and it was challenging to navigate through the different sections. Some additional signage or a clearer pathway would be beneficial in ensuring a smoother visitor experience.
It is important to note that visiting the KGB Museum can be emotionally intense, as it exposes the harsh realities of the past. Sensitivity and respect for the subject matter are crucial when exploring the exhibits, as they depict the suffering and trauma endured by many.
In conclusion, the KGB Museum in Vilnius offers an eye-opening and immersive journey into Lithuania's history during the Soviet occupation. The basement section, with its cells, torture rooms, and execution chambers, stands out as the most compelling and thought-provoking part of the museum. The exhibits are informative, and the staff is knowledgeable and approachable. Although the layout could be improved, the museum effectively presents a significant chapter of history that should not be forgotten. I recommend visiting the KGB Museum for anyone interested in understanding the impact of the Soviet regime and paying tribute to the resilience of the Lithuanian people.

I learned so much about the atrocities committed under Soviet occupation to Lithuania. It’s a very text heavy museum to visit so be prepared to read a lot.
It’s very interesting and takes you through various stages of soviet occupation. Allow atleast an hour and half to take in everything. Some information outlines the deportations, the killings, mass graves and the resistance (freedom fighters). The downstairs KGB prison is a harrowing and solemn experience that you should definitely walk through. You can just feel the sense of torment and horror.
I was shocked to find cells that were padded and used for torture while others were filled with ice cold water in solitary confinement. There’s also an execution room. It’s a very interesting museum to visit and I recommend it 👍🏽👍🏽

An interesting museum, about the Soviet regime in Lithuania. In the building are 3 floors and all of them well made to tell you all those sad stories, but still i highly recommend taking a guide! It will save your time and also make it more informative.

Interesting and informative museum, for sure. Contains some very sad parts of Lithuanian history during Communist rule, can’t be denied. However, deep anti-Soviet bias that is shown by the museum’s lack or downplaying of the Lithuanian (White) partisans’ involvement in antisemitic actions during the Second World War. Not much, if anything, is said about how at the beginning of the war, the Lithuanian nationalists were more than happy in cooperating with N*zis against communists and Jews in hope of getting independence - which by the way they never got, as they became a vessel of N*zi germany and ended up exterminating almost completely the Lithuanian Jewish population. In conclusion, for a museum about genocide, the Holocaust in Lithuania is very much downplayed and not mentioned and instead Soviet crimes, which by no means should be undermined, are the only thing shown throughout the museum (except for a room dedicated to the Holocaust in the cells section of the museum). Again, for a museum about such topics, as freedom and genocide, such unashamed and proud bias is shameful and only serves nationalist propaganda goals.
I recommend a visit, just to see for yourself the bias.

A lot of useful information, I think it would be worth it to take an audio guide, however it’s quite expensive 5euro when I was there, you might feel overwhelmed when you read this much but nevertheless I strongly recommend visiting this place for foreigners not knowledgeable about Lithuania’a history

Heartbreaking place, which is a must to visit. Especially if you come from any country being occupied by ussr or russia. Worth reminding about unhumiliated crimes done by ussr.

The Museum opened shortly after Lithuania gained its independence from Soviet Russia in 1991. The KGB operated out of this building for nearly 50 years. The basement prison remains as it was found after their departure. Interrogations, confinement, torture, exercise yard, and executions were all conducted here and seen here. Exhibitions on the upper floors deal w the "pain & dramatic times in the history of Lithuania: the loss of independence, brutal reprisals at the hands of the Soviet regime, and the bitter fight for the reestablishment of independence." Unbelievable sad and revealing 😔.

Interesting museum that navigates the visitor through the Lithuanian rexent history during Soviet occupation. The most spectacular exhibit is apparently the KGB prison on the basement. You can feel the horror of those that suffered there. The rest of the museum is nice however quite small. Is a must if you ate visiting Vilnius. It took around 45 minutes to see the whole museum.

The vibrant and well-preserved Senamiestis in Vilnius is known for its historical structures, including baroque and Gothic churches as well as the neoclassical Town Hall. The medieval Gediminas Castle Tower provides a panoramic view of the city while Vilnius University dates back to the 16th century. In narrow alleyways, small shops sell amber jewelry, wood carvings, or Lithuanian cheese.
The Vilnius Cathedral, located in the heart of the old town, is a beautiful and important Roman Catholic cathedral. It features a chapel that honors Lithuania's patron saint, St. Casimir, as well as its catacombs which are popular for guided tours. The interior is relatively unadorned due to the many years of Soviet rule when decorations were stripped and it was used for various other purposes unrelated to worship.
The Cathedral Basilica of St Stanislaus and St Ladislaus of Vilnius is the main Roman Catholic Cathedral of Lithuania.
It is situated in Vilnius Old Town, just off Cathedral Square.
Dedicated to Saints Stanislaus and Ladislaus, the church is the heart of Catholic spiritual life in Lithuania.
Architectural style: Neoclassical architecture
Opened: 1783

This time we visited the crypts of Vilnius Cathedral. And it must be said that when you think you know a lot about this building, it can only mean one thing - you haven't been under it yet. Although today's Cathedral was only built in the 19th century, its crypts may date back as far as the 15th century, or even earlier. If you want to find out which of the buried rulers of Lithuania have already been found and which have not yet, if you want to experience the feeling of cozy claustrophobia and hear the story of the Romeo and Juliet of the Lithuanian manor - the crypts of the Cathedral are just right for that.

The history museum Gediminas Castle Tower in Vilnius tells the story of the city from its settlement by Grand Duke Gediminas in the 15th century to present day. The tower, which is one of Vilnius' oldest and most popular tourist attractions, offers a 360-degree panorama of the city and exhibits objects related to Lithuania's history.
What an amazing piece of history to have been able to visit. It's quite the walk heading up there so have your walking shoes on. Breathtaking views on the observation deck on top of the Castle. You have to check this place out if you ever visit Vilnius.

What is worth most about the tower is the panoramic view of the city. Best times are early in the morning or at sunset. Pay particular attention to the operating hours of the cable car because otherwise the ascent is by stairs (as I did).

Interesting looking building. I would recommend paying to visit the tower. There is a lot of modern history here covering the struggles and efforts made by Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia in their cause to become autonomous. Lots of pictures and information available.
The view from the tower overlooking the centre is nice although in my view you can get an even better view from The Three Crosses Monument.
I would definitely put the castle in my top list of things to do in Vilnius.

We were on a snowy day of minus 8 degrees. Getting up in such a cold is not physically simple - certainly for a person living in a hot country. Reaching the top reveals an amazing view of the entire painted city. We decided not to enter the museum and the cable car did not work either.

It has a small exhibit that is worth having a quick look around but the main attraction is the tower itself.
The views from the top are of the entire Old Town and some of the rest of Vilnius and these are unrivaled.
There is a hillside train to assist people getting to the top of the hill if walking isn't possible but the only way to access the tower is stairs.

All that's left from the castle is one tower and some ruins. You can climb the tower or use an elevator, entrance is paid.
To get to the hill you can use a ferry ride for 1 € per person/ride. Or you can climb pretty steep hill and stairs to get on top. Not recommended for people with movement problem/bad knees etc. - use furnicular instead.
However, you can get really nice view of the town from here. One of the best. I would say.

If you go to Vilnius, this is obviously the one place you should visit. Access to the mount is free. The views across the city from the top are fantastic and the whole site is interesting. Within the tower there are a few exhibits, though they could fit a lot more in, considering they charge for entry. You can either walk up or take the funicular up.
The walk on the side coming from the river is quite steep, with stairs at the top of the path. There is a much easier walk from the main square. I would certainly recommend a visit, just for the views.

When you enter the chapel, you feel an amazing atmosphere of tranquility, and see the miraculous painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy. It is also called the Madonna of the Gates of Dawn or the Madonna of Vilnius. This painting was painted specifically for this chapel in the 17th century. Me and my wife went to great city Vilnius in the middle of this month and saw this magnificent, mega-historical old place. It was so cool to learn about its history and how many churches were around it and how many people loved it. The Gate of Dawn (Lithuanian: Aušros vartai) is a UNESCO heritage spot. It was built between 1503 and 1522 to protect the city from bad guys. It has a painting of Mary that is very special and people say it can do miracles. The painting was made around 1630 and crowned by the Pope in 1927. The gate is the only one left from the old city wall that was destroyed by the Russians in 1799. In 1702, the gate was attacked by the Swedish army, but, according to the legend, St. Mary helped the defenders to win. We liked it a lot and I recommend you to see it too.

The Church of Saint Anne is a stunning gothic church located in the heart of old Vilnius, one of Lithuania's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Constructed from thirty-three different types of clay bricks, the red hue of the church can be attributed to this unique attribute. Today, The Church of Saint Anne is grouped with neighboring Saints Francis and Bernardine Church, with tourist routes going through both.
A 520-year-old Gothic church, built of red bricks. Outside there is a small tipi tent with wooden beams that warm the tent and the atmosphere. The church is functional and has a partner activity, in addition you can enter and be impressed by it. Highly recommended

This was far & away the most beautiful landmark I came across during my time in Vilnius. Even after seeing about a bazillion European cathedrals/ churches/ chapels, etc…this one stands out.
They apparently used 33 different varieties of bricks (colors, textures, shapes & sizes) to create a sort of “flaming” facade. Come near sunset on a clear day, & be rewarded with a true sight to behold.

According to a well-known legend, Emperor Napoleon, after seeing the church during the Franco-Russian War in 1812, expressed a wish to carry the church home with him to Paris 'in the palm of his hand' you can understand why this was said about this church. The church has detailed sculpting and made with red brick it’s quite remarkable. Inside the church as well maintained and they haven’t tried to do many renovations so the original paintings seems to be in view and has a very gothic architecture to it. It also has a large pipe organ as well. A church not to be missed if you are in Vilnius. Highly recommend

One of the most beautiful church in Vilnius for me) This church is one of the most pre-eminent examples, and probably the most unified example, of the Gothic in Vilnius. The monument and its panoramas are also important historic sites, and symbolize Lithuania's rebirth.
I thought it would be more difficult to getcto the top of the hill of three crosses monument, but to be honest is closer than what you think. And also you could choose the natural pathway into the greens instead of the principle road for a little taste of adventure and nature touch. I found interesting Land-art there as well. From the monument you have a good view of the city from above. Definitely worths the effort. 👍🏻

One of the most predominant locations in Vilnius, the Three Crosses Monument besides its historical nature, offers a great panoramic view over the city.
You can choose to hike up or walk up a very well maintained stairway. Grab a snack and a coffee with you and relax with the city view.

Three Crosses in Vilnius is a monument consisting of three crosses on the Hill of Three Crosses. This symbolic memorial was created to commemorate national heroes and events in Lithuanian history. Three crosses are also associated with Christianity and the Catholic tradition, being a symbol of faith and spirituality. The monument was created on the site where wooden crosses previously stood, erected by believers in memory of those who died in the name of faith.

A little demanding for aged people since need to take over 300 steps to the top, (don't worth it is pretty Safe and there are chairs for rest) but it definitely worth it. When I go in sept 2022, all direction sign is blank but it is not difficult to find the way. Another point to notice is that the path on the left side of the river is more easy to walk than the right size.

Great panoramic views of Vilnius from the monument. It is a very short walk ( and climbing stairs) from the Gediminas tower ( around 20 mins). The nature walk to the monument was also amazing. There is a pagan monument fo the godess of fire on the way. Gives a peak into the pagan history of Lithuania. The resemblance of the Lithuanian names for the pagan gods to Hindu ones was astounding.

Good place to enjoy a nice view of the city, there are not many other spots for such a view. The ascent is moderate, via a series of wooden steps (don't worry, the steps are not very high) you reach the small plateau fairly quickly. The crosses themselves are unspectacular, but the view is magnificent.

A must-see Vilnius landmark, that represents the (very bloody and utmostly cruel) beginning of christianity in Lithuania. Even now the chilling winds torture you cruelly as you approach this notorious hilltop, just as the Franciscan missionaries, that ventured in to bring the light of Jesus to these pagan lands, were mercilessly tortured.

I advise all tourists to visit this place. Lovers of parks and nature will definitely like it. This place also offers a beautiful view of the whole city, you can see all the sights. This place is also beautiful in the evening/night because Vilnius at night is special.

I read via google reviews that this place is worth it if you love nature in the city and a climb on a hill. It was definitely true!! It was an amazing place 😍 I came up here early (9:00) and was together here with 3 other people. Beautiful natural area covered in snow. Felt like I was on top of the world! Be careful with the snow it was very slippery, I fell 2 times. But oh well, it was an adventure. You need to come here lovely people! 💜

This is a must to visit! Up to the monument, there is a marked and paved trail with wooden stairs across the forest, too. It is a lovely place to just walk around, and the views from up here are breathtaking! I definitely recommend going here in the morning as otherwise, you will be taking pictures into the sun. And I would have imagined it is much less busy during the morning, too; I practically met no one during my walk.

Well worth the climb up the 300 stairs to get to the three crosses monument and view over Vilnius.
Not wheelchair friendly. Stop any time going up and enjoy the forest.

Good place promising great views of Vilnius. Free to enter but can be a steep climb. There are various access points.

Great lookout point, easy to get there, there is an asphalt road. However, it was currently closed and fenced, but it was possible to get there, and there were still quite a few people. I was there in the evening, so I had the opportunity to see Vilnius at night from that place. I definitely recommend. However, it would be better if they wrote down below the hill that it is closed and it is not possible to officially get there.

Bit of incline to get to the top but really worth climbing. There are multiple routes which you can go up from and most of them have stairs so you don’t need special shoes to go up. It’s only a little shorter than the Vilnius University tower but you get a panoramic view of the Vilnius city and it’s very pretty at night as well.

A short 8 min hike. Totally worth it. Great view, even better than the castle view.

Really interesting monument with a long, interesting history. Also some great views when your at the top! Please make sure though when your up there that your not climbing (or your kids) on the monument. A few people were and it’s not ok. This monument means a lot to many people.
There are a fair bit of stairs but it’s not to bad.

Nice cardio hike up the hill for an amazing view of Vilnius.
The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is a beautiful example of Baroque architecture, with 4 chapels and 5 ceiling frescoes. It was built in the latter half of the seventeenth century by Hetman Mykolas Kazimieras Pacas, who intended it to mark the citys liberation from Russia.
Church of St. Peter and St. Paul at Vilnius

The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is a Roman Catholic church. It is the centrepiece of a former monastery complex.
The main altar is dominated by a large painting the Farewell of St. Peter and St. Paul.
There is one of two large Turkish war drums (timpano, 140 cm (55 in) in circumference) that were seized from the Ottomans in the Battle of Khotyn of 11 November 1673 and granted to the church by its founder.

Historical place that should be on your list while visiting Vilnius. Beatiful in the shape, wonderful in the complexity. Place that much gorgeous that even red army spared destroying the place while occupying the city.

Hugely recommended. It's a little off the tourist path, like a 30 minute walk from Cathedral Square, but it's really a must. You have trolleybuses that take you here if you want.
Outside it has a nice facade, but it's the interior that's amazing. White carved and full of details. Much better than other churches here, it's a must. Also, it's free, obviously.

One of the most stunning cathedrals I have ever went to.
1. Small but meaningful details on the walls, ceiling and pillars. All beautiful looking.
2. Church is still in use for praying, mass and weddings.

As I saw that the facade was hidden behind the scaffolding (August 2022), I regretted the long way from the city center. But only until I came in. It's worth to see the inside, wonderful decorations, amazing architecture. I didn't expect such a baroque masterpiece.

This is the church to visit if you are going to see just one church in Lithuania. The outside facade is plain, but inside it is an architectural beauty. It's truly a structure of arts.

Facade currently under renovation but interiors are the most beautiful in Vilnius, really stunning and worth a detour (about 1 mile from Cathedral square)

Beautiful church full of sculptures inside. They were renovating the front of the church

Amazing church, well worth the trip! Its decorations are something unique, and the maintenance is perfect to say the least. All is perfectly and purely white and you can spend many many minutes looking at all the statues and Latin writings. The panel outside briefly explains it’s history

A good walk up from the city centre but a very impressive interior. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the city. Free to enter

The most beautiful church in Vilnius for me) This wonderful church produces a wow effect on every visitor. You should use Google to get to the church because it is located far from Vilnius Old Town. It looks unremarkable from the outside. On the other side, the church interior is a real feast for the eyes. The church looks majestic and has a rich artistic interior decoration which seems to be too pompous. Every painting and sculpture is executed very skillfully. The huge chandelier in the shape of a giant ship in the centre of the ceiling impresses everyone who visits the church. There's a museum here too. My recommendation)

it is truly one of the most beautiful churches in Vilnius. built in the Baroque style, its stuccowork includes about 2,000 sculptural works the church is decorated with an organ. It is here that the relics of Kpzymir are buried. in this style, the temple was built by Italian architects Giovanni Pietro and Giovanni Maria Gali. it is a pearl of architectural Baroque.
