For us Socrates Taverna remains one of the best restaurants you can find in Skala. This has been the second year we came to visit it (with a pause of 2 years between) and we were honestly afraid that after Covid we might not find the restaurant still open, as it is a family business. But what a nice surprise <3! Not only they managed to survive the crisis but their food is still absolutely amazing! The staff is really friendly, they treat you as family and even in the nights were they were fully booked they managed to serve us in a timely manner and have always a kind word to spare. About the food, is really hard to say what I liked most as we’ve had dinner there at least 4 times. Soft and tender beef and lamb, potatoes that literally melt in your mouth, salads that are not only good looking but also good tasting and the Lemon pie…let me tell you it is famous for a reason! The place is kids and pets friendly and the prices are not high for what they have to offer. If we ever decide we want another trip to Skala for us this will be for sure a place, we will come back too.

Can't recommend this place enough , our lovely local bike place rentals park recommended to us Now I'm so glad we went Kefalonian pie to die for pork done to perfection Went the next night too Chicken souvlaki awesome ! And lamb in lemon sauce was gorgeous Go try it out folks 1litre of red wine and food was about 30 euros so won't break the bank Will be going again tonight !

We came with quite high expectations but the overall experience was nothing outstanding, the food was only mediocre (in comparison with other restaurants in Greece even a bit below average). Service was alright, the place itself could use some tissues on the table (there were none) and maybe some extra olive oil on the table as well. Water is served in plastic bottles (glass is always better IMHO). I reckon that high rating on Google Maps is mainly due to reviews of british customers whose knowledge about the beauties of greek cuisine might be a bit limited (no offense).

Tasty and authentic Greek food. This is the place to have moussaka, it was delicious! The Lamb chops were also nice and the desert is a must! Loved the cheesecake and the lemon pie.

Highly recommend! We had a glass of wine and dinner here, amazing aubergine dish with fries, and chicken souvlaki. Also noted most of the cats were neutered, which means the restaurant are working together to improve the health and well-being of the cats. 5* ! Thank you

There are many restaurants in Skala, Kefalonia but in our opinion this is one of the best. We went three times because we enjoyed it so much. I had their daily special on two occasions and it was delicious home cooked food. The service was perfect and so friendly, the chef came out to chat with us because we had said we had enjoyed it so much, she then introduced us to her family, most of who are staff there. I can highly recommend this restaurant.

THE BEST IN TOWN! If you're in Skala, you must try the delicious food of Socrates Taverna. From the Mussaka to the fresh fish of the day, from tirokafteri with pita bread to the Kefalonian Meat Pie...everything is delicious and carefully made! The guys are special and very kind. And...not forget to try their delicious home made lemon pie!

Awful experience! This taverna is ok if you like your food Luke warm and swimming in grease. Chicken too greasy. Roast potatoes not roasted and more like boiled. I could have done better myself. They were very greasy with olive oil. Briam was warm, too much oil. The waiter explained that this was normal. Had half a carafe of wine, last glass had foreign body from the bottom of the bottle. The waitress knocked the price of a glass off. The toilet flush was broken with no hot water. People were queuing up to eat here, with lots turned away… why we did not know! Would never return!

Very welcoming staff are friendly, food was amazing delicious most are homemade including dessert. ITS QUITE popular restaurant probably because the food prices and lower than the rest in the town /resort. Recommended ❤️

Socrates was my favourite taverna in Skala we had the very best Kefalonian family welcome. The food was superb and very reasonably priced. Best lamb kleftiko and lemon pie ever. Located a couple of minutes walk from the busy main street so a little quieter and more relaxed than the bars in the centre. Lots of locals and Greek families dining here so you know you've chosen well...

This restaurant is authentically Greek with great food and a lovely atmosphere. The owner is a real character and very attentive. 5+ stars!

Fantastic food, from the best pork chops in town to the fresh fish, cold beer, great wine & cocktails in a perfect sea view setting in the village, if that was not enough the service is the icing on the cake, very friendly, efficient & charming staff & owner who oversee everything. This is a first night taverna, it was also the one we chose for our last night (and a few in between !!) we will be back.

We came here 4 times during our week in skala, for drinks lunch or dinner. Every time the service was great and the food was amazing. We loved the sangria and homemade lemonade. And the meze lunch for two was the perfect way to spend our final afternoon before heading home.

The services are wonderful and you can feel from the moment you enter there a good energy. The food is good, fresh and you really have to try the marinated anchovies. From some points you can see the sea.

Lovely piece of swordfish. Manager de-boned the fish from the grill really well. Lovely atmosphere and attentive waiters. Prawns were really meaty and sauce was tasty. Baklava pastry was light and flavoured beautifully with whole cloves

Very friendly restaurant Nothing seems like trouble Had the Greek meze for 2 Tastiest meze we ever eaten. The garlic mash was new for me but delicious Squid, octopus, anchovies, tzatziki, taramasalata, Greek sausage, zakanaki fried cheese and flatbreads. Very enjoyable

Right in the center of this town, on your way to the beautifull beach, you have this nice restaurant. Service is top notch, along with an excelent array of dishes, from traditional greek dishes all the way to beef Wellington and more. It had the biggest menu with some unique dishes, not found anywhere on the island (at least where we ate). A preaty good experience along with the awesome view around it and near the beach.

Really well prepared food. Friendly staff and a great location. Very impressed with our meal. One to check out if your looking to eat well at a reasonable price.

Affordable spot. Huevos rancheros on the breakfast menu was very tasty. Heads up if you like your eggs runny - it is cooked through. We had dinner at a later date. The moussaka is massive, which we were grateful for, and made so well! The beef stifado is also worth trying. The gentlemen that accommodated us were lovely. Would happily return!

Just ate the the most wonderful Greek meal for 2. One waiter was surprised we finished it. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff friendly and very attentive. Can definitely recommend to anyone visiting Skala.

Excellent traditional taverna,lovely atmosphere. A real family run atmosphere with plenty of outdoor seating. A good menu with plenty of choice plus always a special on offer. The food is all cooked fresh to order is always hot and tasty. The staff are Great efficient and friendly.

The serving staff (including the owner, Apostolis!) are just lovely. Food is amazing. - drinks are amazing. Really lovely atmosphere. Lots of Greek people eating there too so they are doing something right. They also have a garden for the kids to play in. My daughter got stuck in the baby swing and Apostolis ran to get her out. So sweet!

Great food, great hosts, quiet, on a little street. We tried some starters that were great and then some grilled kalamari and lamb chops that were very tasty. The dessert was great also.

Loved it. Picked this place on the way to Makis Grill, which we will go to tomorrow. Food was amazing.

Do yourself a favour and leave the main high street to visit this place, recommend a quick cocktail at Captains bar on the way there. Food was excellent, service was great. Family friendly and amazingly good value. My only regret was we only went once and didn’t find them early enough. The lamb chops will not disappoint

Tasty food and very kind & smiling person serving us. He can speak English and Italian :) He even offered us a great Greek dessert! There is traditional Greek music and relaxing atmosphere. Good prices, in 5 we ate very well for 62 euros. I would return for sure and I highly recommend it!

Lovely place with a traditional feel. Only plays Greek music which is lovely. Food was really tasty and very reasonably priced. They even surprised us with some lovely Greek desert on the house. The lady waiter was super nice and helpful. There is a short walk from the centre of Skala up the small hill but I definetely think its worth it. The only thing is that they have few cats wondering around which is not a problem if you like cats, but unfortunately I don't. But it's not an issue at all:)

Wonderful quiet restaurant with a nice area for kids to play. I recommend to visit early and have the place to yourself, its like sitting your own back garden (but in Greece!!)

Probably the best tavern in Kefalonia in terms of quality, service and price! If you visit Skala in Kefalonia this family tavern is a must! The food was well crafted and the flavors are indeed what we call original greek cuisine. We tried many different plates, such as lamb, the mixed grill, chicken souvlaki, "gemista" (stuffed tomatoes, as you can see in the picture below). The portions were fairly large, after eating some apetites and the main course you will be full. If you have some space left in your belly you must try the desert of the day which usually served with ice cream. The most valuable asset though are the people working there. Apostolis and all the members of the "crew" are one of the most genuinely polite amd professionals people that l have encountered in restaurants. A big "bravo" for all their work. We stayed 5 days in Kefalonia in which the 3 of them we ate at Apostolis. If we could, we would have eaten there every single day! The perfect 10.

Nice Greek authentic taverna,just of the main strip on a nice quiet side road.Food was really nice and definitely fill the plate and your belly. Greek music playing in the background that adds to the authenticity, the staff were really pleasant even though they were really busy,and they also gave us a free desert . Well worth a visit will definitely return.

The view from the restaurant and food was absolutely amazing. The chef and staff were excellent, prices great. We tried a few other restaurants but nothing compared to this for quality, quantity and price. It just by the Roman villa.

Authentic Greece food. Large selection of dishes, both meat and seafood. Professional staff who make you feel part of their family. Get there early so you can a table with the best view in town. The grilled calamari was to die for. Best calamari in my four visits to the Greece Isles.

Breakfasted here a couple of times. Hubby went for the English Breakfast both times. I opted for pancakes with eggs & bacon first visit and then yogurt with fresh fruit & honey second. Very attentive waiters. Great service. Very good pricing. Also had a snack stop for ice cream Have also since had an evening meal. We stopped for breakfast and were so impressed we booked for dinner! Best meal so far! Great view of yhe sea mainland greece and zante! Costas and his colleagues are superb hosts! Friendly and great service and advice about the dishes! The food was excellent and finished with a complementary ouzo and sour cherry shot! Highly recommend if you're in Skala!

One of many excellent restaurants in Skala: the beef giouvetsi is particularly recommended, one of the best we've ever had.

Perfect.. We had two Starters which were generously sized and delicious, followed by Mousaka and Lamb Kleftico. Both were huge portions and perfectly cooked. Couldn't post a pic of mains because we were too busy tucking in. 100% we will return here.

An absolute MUST visit. We saw the great reviews and thought we would give it a go. I must admit, when we got there we weren’t sure what to expect, but we were blow away by the quality and presentation of the dishes. The crab salad with potatoes (Athenian salad) was a 10/10! The mushroom tuna steak was delicious and the desert (traditional halva) was a highlight! I only took two pictures which might not do the dishes justice. But I was so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant and would 100% recommend. The staff was lovely too!

I was amazed by the professionalism of the place. Most probably the best restaurant we’ve been to on the island of Kefalonia. The food was really good and I recommend the Salmon Teriyaki. The pita bread and tzatziki are super good. Vibe was unbelievably relaxing and service was top notch. We were so happy from our first visit that we decided to come back again 2 days later. Don’t leave without trying there Chocolate dessert with mango sorbet!

The place is cozy, has mostly seafood menu. We had sausage appetizer, crab salad, orzo with shrimps, fried calamari with black sauce, aubergine salad. All was delicious and tasty.

The food was ok, but the portion size was too small. (You can see the octopus and prawns pictures especially). We ordered octopus, garlic prawns and seafood mix for 2.

Great location just opposite the beach in a chilled out strip in Skala. The food is very good with friendly and attentive service. We eat here alot in our week. Would highly recommend.

5 stars all round⭐️ Everything was perfect from start to finish. Even our 9yr old gave his meal the chefs kiss! This place is a must if you are going to Kefalonia and you like seafood. Our waiter helped us choose a beautiful wine and the food was incredible not to mention the stunning view😍

We had a unique experience at Sunrise Restaurant. Food is amazing, every course comes with a twist and an interesting touch from the chef. The service is exquisite, all the personnel is polite and make you feel like 5* Michelin 😊 You should try the Ekmek dessert ❤️

Probably our favourite restaurant in Skala. We loved our starters, main and desserts. The breadsticks were especially tasty, as was the bruschetta with local cheese. The fish platter for two was great. We could not resist also trying two desserts, the halva and the ekmek. The atmosphere was very nice in the restaurant. We walked out full but very satisfied.

For us it's one of the best places to eat seafood in Kefalonia. Very welcoming and lovely owner and staff, delicious food and drinks and a stunning view next to the sea.

Don't visit if you want fresh fish, we visited it last week around 5 pm. We were the only couple at the restaurant and the staff was nice, we ordered the fish platter for 2 but the fishes weren't fresh, and the sardines were definitely not fresh either. They could easily advis us that they didn't have fresh fish to serve at that moment and we could definitely understand. Very disappointed as we are Greeks living abroad and we had only a few days to join fish food. Very nice view, very nice Greek salad and very nice interior

We were recommended to try here by a couple in our hotel once we told them we have fish the night before. This was quite a trek from our hotel as we stayed at tesoro blu, but this is a very nice restaurant. The service was great, the food tasted really good. Obviously not a place to go if you don't like fish as it is 90%+ fish based. We had the teriyaki salmon and the seafood linguine. The linguine was not tight on the portion sizing so very good value for money. The bread tasted good and there are a couple of cats nearby so very cute. We had water, an alcoholic drink and main each for just under €30. We were given a free shot of lemon sherbet and almonds upon paying which were very tasty and free. If you want some nice fish orientated food then definitely make the trip to the restaurant as it's worth it

We really enjoyed our meal here! The service was really great, the main waiter recommended a delicious white wine for our meals. We had cocktails and bruschetta to start- honestly divine! Then we shared the octopus starter, that was also delicious! The octopus was well cooked and seasoned and the fava and caramelised onions were a great accompaniment. Then one of us had tuna and the other had grilled prawns with avocado and they were both very enjoyable. The only complaint was that the tuna was so big! And I’d not call that a complaint at all really. We decided to have the digestif cocktails for ‘dessert’ as we were so full. Also delicious and came with great little nibbles on the side. Do go here, it was a great night. Unfortunately we didn’t have the option of a locally caught fish that night as the weather hadn’t been so good, but as mentioned everything else on the menu was delicious anyway. Ευχαριστώ sunrise

Absolutely amazing! Every dish on the menu is made to perfection. The seafood is fresh. The espresso is delightful. We visited two days in a row because it was that good.

Loved our octopus starter, seafood platter, and sea view. It was the optimal amount of food, and the wine pairing recommendation was perfect. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion or a treat meal as the menu is more pricey... but worth it!
