The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop is a small bakery in the Lake District, famous for its delicious gingerbread. The store was founded by Victorian cook Sarah Nelson in 1854 and today it's visited by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and others from the local area. The gingerbread is made using a top-secret recipe that has been passed down for generations.
I love gingerbread. But any gingerbread I've ever had within my lifetime doesn't come close to the majesty of this gingerbread. The flavour is amazing, with the perfect amount of that sweet and slightly fiery ginger, and the texture is perfect too. Soft and buttery, but still with a crunch. We visited one morning to get a sample, and returned later the same day to stock up before we were leaving Grasmere for home. Don't be put off by the queue - it moves quickly and you won't be disappointed!

Best gingerbread in the world - I agree. So good. I went back for more later in the week. A cosy little shop, with a queue outside,It went really quick. Staff were quick and really lovely. The gingerbread was a very reasonable price. I bought gifts in a lovely tin. Other products sold range from skincare to chocolate and souvenirs. I would highly recommend you visit if you're in the lake District.

This tiny wee shop is whipping out some pretty amazing tasting gingerbread. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was super tasty. There was a queue when we visited, but it went down quick enough and is well worth the wait. The biscuits are so buttery, sweet, and just a nice level of fireyness. Totally worth it

Very unique textured and flavoured gingerbread, moreish and flavoursome. The gingerbread fudge is one of the best sweets I’ve eaten in my life. Incredibly friendly service and lovely quaint shop. Must visit if you’re in the Lakes. Great to buy gifts for loved ones.

I arrived early not long after opening so didn't need to queue but about half an hour later the queue was coming out the door and around the corner. I absolutely love visiting to get my Grasmere gingerbread fix when I'm home visiting. The shop is tiny but sells lots of their homemade products at reasonable prices. The smell is just amazing! Just to the back of the building is a church and grave yard which hold William wordsworth and family grave and a lovely park to sit and enjoy some gingerbread

We were greeted by a long queue of people but it was worth it! Once you are in, you are served very quickly, so go in prepared what you wish to buy. I recommend the gingerbread and fudge. On your way out turn left to visit the graves of Sarah Nelson (to your right as you enter the old graveyard) and William Wordsworth (to your left, there will be signs).

What a beautiful little gem this place is. The quality of the gingerbread is outstanding and you can taste how fresh the products are, always a queue to get in here and I can see why. Took some gingerbread back home with us which was superb and other assortments.

Every trip to The Lakes is superb, but making it extra special is a quick stop in the famous Gingerbread Shop! If there is a queue it is worth it, the staff are always friendly and the gingerbread tops the lot! A simply must 👌

Beautifully presented old fashioned shop with staff wearing mob caps. The gingerbread is good too. Surprisingly cheap Kendal Mint Cake sold here for much less than you pay in the many outdoor gear shops.

Cute little shop for gingerbreads in Grasmere. There's always a queue here but it moves pretty quick. Inside there're two sale ladies dressed in lovely old fashioned costumes. I bought 2 packs of gingerbread and enjoyed them with tea. The shop is next to William Wordsworth's Garden entrance. Gingerbread: 6 pieces £4.50

Oh my goodness me this is the best gingerbread I have ever had and surely the best in the world. It was sooooo good. There was a long queue but it was well worth it. I want to go back and buy some more!

A beautiful place run by lovely people. A piece of Lake District history. The gingerbread is without a doubt, the best I have ever tasted. The price is very reasonable for the quality. Will be returning on every visit for sure.

First time being here, recommend by work colleagues, very cute and quaint shop, couldn’t believe the queue for such a small shop, don’t be put off though it goes down fast! Lovely staff chatted about the history and products. We came away with some gingerbread packs, some different flavoured fudge and some mint cake. They do deliver worldwide. The gingerbread itself is lovely, crumbly on the outside, a good crunch to the biscuit and a delicious ginger flavour without being over sweet. The fudge is also worth buying, very nice. Would buy again, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Claire Cronin (All Things Dark & Dirty) — Google review
Glad to have ticked this off while in the Lake District, the experience was very cool and it's a lovely little shop the staff were lovely. A big queue even on a rainy late October weekday. The gingerbread isn't to everyone's taste I would say but I guess those who love gingerbread would enjoy this certainly worth a visit in the area.

This is going back about a year or so. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a connoisseur of anything ginger, I even eat raw ginger! I was given this place as a recommendation. Being a city guy, I entered a quaint village near Lake Windermere, it felt I was transported back in time, to a rural time where community was genuinely present. It's much needed downtime where the pace of life is slower, that's beautiful. This little shop offers up some of the finest ginger confectionery in the land and it's true! Service was quick and very friendly, an old school type of service, as opposed to the consumerist centric style found in cities. I purchased a few of the standard gingerbread pieces, just to ease myself in. I took one bite and I felt something akin to a warm comfortable hug. Think of a festive gingerbread latte, just far more refined and without the artificial flavours. There wasn't a hint of superficiality about the place, it seemed sincere in its goal, just make amazing gingerbread. The fiery ginger flavours were well balanced with a hint of sweetness from the brown sugar and molasses. All in all, it's an amazing recommendation. 10/10
Zahid Saddal — Google review
The best gingerbread I’ve ever tried! We queued a bit even though it was a weekday in September. The shop is really small but the staff is very nice and do not rush you at all! We bought a box of 12 gingerbread and we do not regret at all. It’s really good! I definitely will buy again because I won’t survive without it now that I tried it. I recommend trying with goat cheese on top for a unique taste.

The Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere is a cottage where the poet William Wordsworth lived and wrote between 1799 and 1808. The museum contains personal belongings of the poet, as well as artefacts about his life and work. It is open by timed ticket to avoid overcrowding, and includes a guided tour.
Great tour of Dove Cottage, the guide was lovely and well informed as we're the other staff members when I asked questions. Museum fab. Grounds and views from the grounds beautiful.
Julia Parkinson — Google review
I was so impressed by this museum and the work they've done to preserve the Wordsworths' legacy. The whole staff at this museum was so informative and friendly and helpful. You can tell they are really passionate about the work they do there. We did the tour of Dove Cottage, and I was really pleased with they way they structure it. The 10-minute film they show before having you enter the cottage was very entertaining. Not a typical documentary style. You could tell it was made recently with a high production value. Dove Cottage itself was the real treat. Our guide was able to answer all of our questions, and we loved seeing all the tiny details throughout the cottage. The wooded areas were gorgeous, of course, and I could have sat there all day. The museum exhibits were all lovely, but what I really appreciate is the emphasis on community involvement. I loved the way you could tell local schools and volunteers had helped craft some small parts of the exhibit. You could tell this place is a real labor of love, and it made it all the more special. I would be thrilled to come back here. Highly recommend!

It may have just been me but I found it a bit confusing at first as to where to go for tickets but eventually saw the signs. Unfortunately we had arrived a little late & because the next tour was 40min away meant it would be too late for us leaving so we didn't tour inside Dove cottage. However the grounds were lovely to look at and took some pictures of the cottages from outside. There's a little cafe we got a sandwich, cake & drink & sat outside. Staff were all very friendly & the Sensory Garden we really enjoyed too.

I came here primarily to see Dove cottage. I left totally moved by the whole experience. I cannot recommend this place more. From the general atmosphere to the friendly, helpful and enthusiastic staff, please take the time to support this amazing venue.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage and wonderful garden. Our guide Jessica was super friendly and did an amazing job, was very eager to share her knowledge and answer everyone's questions. The small group size was much appreciated as space inside the cottage is quite limited. Were also able to explore the premises by ourselves which we really enjoyed.

We had an amazing trip and the staff was incredibly friendly and patient, answering all of our questions. The exhibition was fantastic, providing a thorough insight into the life of Wordsworth. We were particularly impressed by the valuable manuscripts on display at the museum. The location is easily accessible for bus travelers. Additionally, Grasmere is a stunning place and definitely worth a day trip. Highly recommend!

a lovely spot celebrating the lives and works of William and Dorothy Wordsworth. great exhibitions and nice introductory video before the visit to the cottage itself - the member of staff who accompanied us was clearly really knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we had a nice chat about Dorothy's journals and the recent surge of scholarly interest in them. café was also lovely and serves a great sausage roll!

The second time I've visited this wonderful home that belonged to William and Dorothy Wordsworth. It's like stepping back in time and everything is preserved so well, the staff are knowledgeable and helpful! A must on your literary trip to the Lakes!

The house was lovely. You had to watch a 10min film about William and Dorothy Wordsworth before being able to explore the house. The different rooms were all beautiful, and the backyard too. It was nice to see how they lived.

What a great find! This is one of the most beautiful museums I've been in. Dove cottage is brilliantly laid out, you feel transported back to the nineteenth century and expect Wordsworth and his family to return from their walk any minute. The gardens are wonderful and give beautiful views. The staff are friendly, helpful and well informed about the whole history of the family and the place. A delightful experience. If you're in the area, this is unmissable.

I was given the absolute privilege of being able to handle and read from a first edition of Wordsworth's Prelude that was owned by his daughter. This is an absolutely fantastic space and does amazing work in terms of both historical preservation and education.

Visited here on a Wednesday afternoon. It was so lovely to see Dove cottage where William Wordsworth lived with his wife. The village is quaint. It wasn't a very nice day quite wet & windy so that's due to lack of pics. Well worth a visit x

William Wordsworth museum and the Dove Cottage he used to live. Visit duration about 1.5hr. There will be a 10 mins video introduction in the beginning following by the tour of the cottage. And then you can stay at the museum for the exhibition. Nice tourist attraction. The ticket is valid for one year which is very good! Highly recommended.

It’s decent - but not a lot to see unless you have very specific interest in Wordsworth. The video on Wordsworth was the highlight of the visit. Grasmere is one of the most beautiful places in the world though. Interestingly I felt you will understand the emotions of Wordsworth much better on the grassy highlands than inside a house.

Country house
Allan Bank is a beautiful 1800s villa with gardens that was once the home of William Wordsworth. The property features a woodland walk, rope swings, and atmospheric old rooms where visitors can enjoy picnics and write on huge blackboards. The house has an interesting history as it was owned by one of the founders of the National Trust. The gardens are stunning and well worth exploring.
Visited yesterday in the rain. Fantastic place. Great that dogs are allowed in the house. Enjoyed coffee in the kitchen and sitting looking for red squirrels. The garden walk is fabulous. Lovely welcoming staff. Highly recommend a visit and we hope to return. Thank you
Denise Armstrong — Google review
Grasmere is a beautiful village benefiting from the surrounding classic lakes scenery. Allan Banks is located within easy walking g distance. There is no parking unless you are a blue badge holder. The grounds are quite pretty, but the views over the surrounding area are better. The 'house' itself is a little tired and is barely worth a visit, although there are a few children's activities
Graham Sexton — Google review
We went in hope of seeing a red squirrel and thoroughly enjoyed the woodland walk, very steep with lots of steps but worth it. The house is a place to relax, they even provide blankets to have a snooze
Christine Peart — Google review
What a brilliant place to visit for Red Squirrels! It’s £5pp for entry, but so worth it as you can easily spend an hour just sitting and looking at the red squirrels on the feeders. We visited on a wet and quiet Sunday in October, and the day seemed perfect for it. Amazing visit.
Meg Towler — Google review
This National Trust property is certainly quite the hidden gem! Onsite parking is limited and reserved for blue-badge holders only, but don't give it a miss; the walk up to the house is scenic and paved the whole way. It only takes about 5-10 minutes up the drive and is so worth it. The house itself is very cozy and laid out as a series of reading nooks with coffee and tea available in the shop. Walks around the grounds are available for every ability level and red squirrels are easy to spot. I particularly loved the kind and knowledgeable volunteers and staff members who look after everything. I'll certainly be back!
Aurora — Google review
A lovely atmosphere, welcoming staff/volunteers. Fantastic views from house & grounds across Grasmere & Grasmere village. Unlike a lot of properties you can walk freely around ,sit on furniture, read a book, make yourself a,cup of tea - honesty box. The garden is lovely, tranquil. Red Squirrels frequently seen & yes, we saw one happily gathering food while there. The woodland walk is very steep in places, wood land management currently taking place.

What a great place on a rainy day like today, sush a relaxing NT. Have a cup of tea in an armchair by the fire, read a book, dog friendly even in the property, dog treats from the staff, and lots of useful information

Lovely walk from Grasmere village, interesting house. Games for kids. No cafe but coffee & tea are available. The woods walk was great steep at places.

Not a lot to see. Grounds pleasant. If you're in the area might be worth a visit but don't go out of your way.

I really enjoyed our day out at Allan Bank, even when it rained! Walked up in the rain. And sat inside and had our picnic lunch watching the world go round. Then the rain stopped and we ventured out to the wood walk trail! Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, and we saw Morris dancers as well.
Ryan Toal — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit to Allan Bank and was impressed with some of the history that goes with it. Friendly staff too. If you get a chance, go for a walk on the path within the grounds, it's quite fun and scenic.
John Clayton — Google review
Good. House is minimal. Some benches could use a tidy up.
James Cummings — Google review
Stunning scenery, amazingly friendly staff and a beautiful house set up for people to enjoy rather than just pass through. Would be great for kids too. Well worth going just for the little walk in the woods. We went in summer but would be lovely in winter just reading in the living room with the fire on and a cuppa (you can help yourself to tea and coffee)
Matthew Greaves — Google review
Lovely place! Well worth the £5 entry fee, which includes access to the house and grounds, which are completely dog friendly (both the grounds and house, which was a nice surprise!) as well as free tea and coffee in the house. The grounds include a fab circular walk, well signed with good paths and stunning views of surrounding areas. We were also very lucky to see red squirrels!! There were great activities for kids, both in the grounds and house. The house is an open space, and isn't traditionally restored, but has been used in a really interesting way - people can come and go from room to room, taking seats to view the scenery and, eating theit lunch/snacks, reading and chatting. There is a great activitiy room for kids (and adults! It was chalk drawings when we were there) you can then pop to the kitchen for complimentary tea and coffee. There is a great second hand book sale as well, which we spent a while browsing through. The volunteers were really helpful and knowledgeable and we really enjoyed the local artists exhibition 'Big Faces'. Well worth a visit!
E W — Google review
Absolutely lovely place, everyone so friendly, from the man in the entrance hut who cracked fungi jokes (there was a small exhibition), to the staff inside and even the other visitors. I really enjoyed looking around the house, unlike other similar properties there is so much to do - crafts for the kids (or adults!), lots of books to read or buy, fantastic views (saw a red squirrel!), plus help yourself to a brew and sit beside a roaring fire. I also walked the woodland trail - some of the path is very steep with uneven stone steps so best to take care but it was worth it, had some amazing views. Well worth a visit.
chrish — Google review
We had a lovely visit here, your able to make yourself a hot or cold drink from the facilities provided. Nice to hear about the history of the house, being owned by one of the founders of the National Trust. Great house to look around & the gardens are stunning. Be sure to walk around them.
Ian Beckly — Google review
In gentle lands where nature smiles, A house stands proud, midst verdant miles, A Trust-held space, where hands can feel, The soothing touch of time's soft wheel. Here, sip your tea, read books, unwind, In gardens sweet, peace you will find, The views around, a feast for eyes, Such beauty vast, 'neath open skies. Venture forth through woods, a must, Where trees stand tall, in grandeur thrust, And if fortune smiles, you'll chance to see, A red squirrel, wild and free. A day spent here, a balm for soul, In nature's arms, we find the whole, A realm where beauty, peace entwined, Bestows on hearts, a calm, refined.

Lovely church of St Oswald's and the grave of Wordsworth's and is family with the river running to the side is a beautiful setting in the middle of one of the best Lakeland villages you can ever be. Lots to see and do in and around this great place. Even without seeing the different places connected to Wordsworth's
Derek Hall — Google review
A delightful old village church, best known for its association with the poet William Wordsworth, but well worth a visit in its own right. I came here while on a day trip, and was impressed not only with this church's great antiquity - it dates from around 1250 but its origins go back to Saxon times - but also its welcoming atmosphere and the friendliness of the locals I met there. It stands right next to the River Rothay, and it is believed that the tower was built of boulders from the riverbed. The most spectacular feature inside the church is the unique timber framed roof above the nave, and there are also some small but beautiful stained glass windows. I found the info panel describing the ancient rushbearing ceremony, still held here every July, very interesting reading. There's a nice little bookshop near the entrance. The Wordsworth family graves are behind the church, close to a lovely daffodil garden, and there's a quaint little gingerbread shop in a former schoolhouse next to the churchyard entrance. There's usually a queue here, but the gingerbread is well worth the wait!
Valerie Hinchliffe — Google review
Quite and beautiful place Situated by the banks of the River Rothay in the centre of Grasmere village, St Oswald’s is a historic place of worship, much loved by local people and over 100,000 visitors each year. Its services are attended by a faithful, local congregation as well as many who come to stay in Grasmere. St Oswald’s has a fine musical reputation and is home to the annual Grasmere Rushbearing. St Oswald's Church is in the village of Grasmere, in the Lake District, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Windermere, the archdeaconry of Westmorland and Furness, and the diocese of Carlisle.[3] The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.[4] As well as its architectural interest, the church is notable for its associations with the poet, William Wordsworth and his family, and for its annual ceremony of rushbearing. St Oswald's dates from the 12th century, with an extension in the following century.[2] The chancel was added in the 15th century and the sanctuary in the 17th century. An extensive restoration was carried out between 1967 and 1973, which included new pews and a pulpit. The church is built in blocks of calciferous sandstone and has green slate roofs. The roofs have coped gables and cross finials. Its plan consists of a three bay nave with a south aisle and a south porch, and a three-bay chancel with a north vestry. On the gable between the nave and the chancel is a twin open bellcote. Gargoyles stretch from the eaves of the chancel. The lower courses of the north wall of the nave and a blocked doorway date from the 12th century, and a medieval cross slab is built into this wall. The remainder of the fabric of the nave is from the 13th century. The chancel dates from the 15th century and in its east wall is a Tudor three-light window. The vestry dates from the 20th century. The arcade consists of four rounded-headed arches on round piers. The south wall of the aisle has recesses for a tomb and for an aumbry, and there is an aumbry in the south wall of the chancel. The bowl of the font is Norman, supported on a 20th-century shaft. The stained glass in the west window dates from the 19th century.[2] The single-manual organ was built in 1975 by Eric Mason of Bolton

Beautiful. A gorgeous church in Grasmere which holds the burial site of William Wordsworth, the famous English poet. Right by the church is a curving pavement with names and places if those who funded each slab. In addition is a lovely, small girl gingerbread shop that sells some amazing treats! A very old a very famous church. The whole family of THE most famous poet is buried here... guess his name??? I went to see this place especially to lay flowers there. His writings amd his life story how he lives in such a peaceful place and probably that was what gave wordsworth the inspiration to write. The Church itself is small but very old architecture. Graves are between the church and grasmere gingerbread shop, i.e on north west side of church. One of the must goto places above ALL others if you visit lake district.

Very Nice Places Grasmere Daffodil Garden opened in 2003. A piece of waste land near the church was chosen to try and emulate Wordsworth’s famous poem. “I wandered lonely as a cloud, that floats on high o’er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils. The plan is to have 10,000 wild daffodils blowing in the breeze. The idea of the garden is to raise funds to promote the heritage of the Vale of Grasmere and it’s traditional ways of Lake District life. This is achieved by selling Daffodil bulbs, which mean you can put down “some roots in Grasmere” yourself. You can also buy a stone which is engraved with your name and home town. This is laid in the form of a path through the garden. Once the path is finished, sponsorship closes. The stones are made of Lakeland slate, and tend to be bought by people who have a fondness for Grasmere. It isn’t a memorial garden, more a celebration of Grasmere. Donors names are entered in the Book of friends displayed in St Oswalds Church. The charities sponsored by the garden are, The Friends of St. Oswald’s. St Oswald’s church has over 100,000 visitors per year which obviously takes it’s toll on the building. The money helps to pay for it’s renovation and maintenance. Another charity to benefit is The Lakeland Housing Trust. Because so many houses are snapped up as holiday homes, it becomes more and more difficult to find affordable housing for locals. The Trust buys and lets homes to young families at a subsidised rent. The Wordsworth Trust is another beneficiary, helping to preserve the literary heritage of the poet’s bond with Grasmere. His grave overlooks the garden. And finally, The National Trust gets donations to help farmers to maintain country features which would be difficult otherwise because of low hill farm incomes. So the next time you are in Grasmere enjoy the peace of the daffodil garden knowing that it is helping preserve the beautiful Vale of Grasmere.

Lovely quiet spot behind the church in Grasmere. Beautiful gardens and a short stroll ending by the river. The paving has been sponsored by people from around the world - it is interesting to see the names and locations.

Cute little garden with a great history. We walked past the big line for the gingerbread shop and was surprised to find the garden nestled up to it. It's view of the stream that ran alongside was so English. Well worth a visit if you are in the area, especially if the daffodils are in bloom.
Chris Austin — Google review
Small, but tranquil little spot. Really interesting to see all the names on the ground. There weren't many daffodils left by the time we went (Mid-April), but it's still a nice, calm little space.

He might have wandered lonely as a cloud, but you can only do that atop the fells, round here. Grasmere being the destination of choice for every coach tour, you'll never be alone here.

Very Small garden and not much area of daffodils too. Nice for a little walk around. For tourists it can be covered in 15-30 mins

A wonderful garden to walk around. The Wordsworth daffodil garden in Grasmere is somewhere to take some time out and switch off from daily life. In a beautiful location in the Lake District too and when visited on a spring afternoon like we (Hazel and Zoe) did, then it's a joy to see the flowers out in bloom.
Hazel Blackbourn — Google review
Beautiful garden. Take a walk or sit and relax. It's green and clean.
Rakesh Kumar — Google review
See if you can get there in time for the church bells sounding. The ideal time to go is the spring when the daffs and snowdrops are on show
nell waler — Google review
This small but beautiful garden is right next to St Oswald's Churchyard and very close to the graves of William Wordsworth and his family. The well-kept path is made up of around 3000 paving stones inscribed with the names and home towns of people from all four corners of the world who, by sponsoring their stone, have supported this garden and helped to raise funds for local heritage. I came too late in the year to see any daffodils, but there were a few lovely rhododendrons and other flowering plants. There are benches where you can sit and take in the wonderful views of the surrounding Lakeland fells. From the gate at the foot of the garden, you can enjoy a peaceful and scenic walk along a footpath that runs alongside the river.

Wow - where to begin! We can now see why this fabulous little place is packed out and fully booked - make sure you book in advance this is not to be missed! As soon as we arrived we were seated and served by the fantastic front of house. A gentleman full of life and character and a warm welcome received. Cocktails were sensational! Food was incredible, we can't put into words how epic the flavour, quality and courses (all 3 of them!!!) Were. Wine was fabulous and this place is a must go when you are in Grasmere from arrival to departure it was absolutely incredible!!! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening

Incredible food, incredible service. I will always come back here as long as this restaurant is in business whenever I visit this area again. The food was exceptional! The specials menu changes regularly which makes it even more special to me to know they source local produce. The flavours in every dish we ordered, were prepared with so much understanding and love for food from all around the world. This place deserves a Michelin Bib recommendation. No fault to anything here. Service was incredible. Super friendly staff who I felt super warmth from (could be because they are family owned? - I’m unsure). Please visit here if you want to go out for dinner.

Absolutely incredible food! We’ll portioned sizes and delightful wine selection. The staff are very friendly and relaxing and the atmosphere was wonderful for a romantic date night. Lots of wonderful artwork on the walls. Would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a delicious meal but booking is needed! I had the lamb and stuff courgette starters, pasta of the day (amazing!) and ginger cake dessert.

This was quite simply the best meal we've ever had! Every dish has clearly been prepared by someone very special who is passionate about the dishes they create - the blend of spices and flavours were fantastic. The staff were friendly, engaging and couldn't go out of their way enough to ensure we had the best night. It was our first visit to The Jumble Room but definitely won't be the last, this place is certainly the hidden gem of Grasmere.

Visited during a girls birthday celebration weekend. Just wow 🤩 Service was personal and attentive without being intrusive. Cosy atmosphere welcoming of walkers and celebratory guests alike. Food….what can I say….we’ll still be discussing it until our next visit! Delicious, satisfying and exceptional quality, we can’t wait to return.

Best two evening meals I have ever eaten in my life. Michelin quality food and wine, served by the most wonderful team in an amazingly laid back and relaxed building. This is a destination in its own right and will be the main reason I will return to the Lakes in the future. Do not tell anyone, they will all want to go.

Safe to say I would love to go back to the Jumble Room. The food here is absolutely stunning, nice variety of choices and the food is cooked superbly with amazing flavours and textures. The staff are really brilliant, nice and attentive and have good knowledge on the food they are selling. Only a small place but the decor is very good and there is a nice atmosphere.

Our favourite restaurant in England. As it is a family-run business, you really feel part of the family when you dine at the Jumble Room. Emily and Ross are so lovely When serving, and Chrissy’s food - wow! We dined here as our last meal before getting married, and it was superb. The drinks were fabulous, but the food was incredible. A must visit!

The best food I have had!! We had the cod for starters, 10/10. Stew for main so tasty and the bombalinos (mini doughnuts filled with biscoff) for dessert, they are the best things I’ve ever tasted!! & great whisky selection.

Absolutely amazing food! We loved the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, great wines and the food was top notch! Had the special mushroom & truffle tortellini starter, hubby the cod, then lamb stew and chicken. Everything was so tasty! Would highly recommend any day of the week! A great find!

We didn't realise a table was so highly in demand but luckily managed to fit in due to a cancellation, we found out why you need to book ahead! The menu was unique and worldly with both of our dishes being cooked to perfection. We sampled the cocktails which were equally amazing all set within a lovely atmosphere.

We received a wonderfully friendly welcome and felt extremely well cared for from start to finish. Delicious and creative food served with passion. Even though we were dining late (9pm) we were not rushed and would have had time for three courses if we could have managed dessert! Easily the culinary highlight of our short break in Grasmere. Thank you!

Greens Cafe & Bistro is a small, local cafe that offers vegan and vegetarian options. It has loyal followers who love its cakes and pastries. The cafe is situated in the heart of Grasmere village, opposite the village green.
Been coming to Greens in Grasmere for years. Favourite cafe in the entire lake district. Family run so the service is always good. Not the cheapest but certainly the best quality food and drink. You certainly get what you pay for, which is decent homecooked food made with quality ingredients. Nice atmosphere. Be lucky to get a table inside on a busy day. Dog friendly dining area outside. Homemade cakes are lovely and their coffee is excellent. Best I've tasted in the area

Arguably the best cafe in Grasmere. The owners are always very warm and welcoming, and excellent customer service comes as standard. A good reasonably priced menu full of delicious food and drinks. My go-to place for breakfast or lunch or just to grab a quick espresso before heading to the nearby fells. Highly recommended 👌

Rarebit with Attitude-it tasted as good as it looked, maybe even better! It was great to share because we didn't want to spoil our evening meal. Washed down with a Lime and soda and a Eel River IPA. Lovely outside seating area for people watching.

Lovely little cafe with great food - very good vegan and gluten free options. Hot chocolate was great. The menu was different to the one on their website, but still had a good range of options. Would recommend and go again, their attitude to dietary requirements was outstanding and I felt very safe eating there as a coeliac.

It is a nice little place in Grasmere. I like that you can sit inside or in nice weather outside. I drunk hot chocolate with mint was really pleasant. We ate some cake too, was tasty. Serving was immaculate as always. Same nice, kind staff.

Nice little place with 3 young men serving lots of vegan options. I Couldn't finish the whole meal and one of the guys went out of his way to make it possible to take it home. So nice! Could park in front of the place for free - for one hour. Dog friendly so many cute dogs around. Don't know why I thought it was 100% vegan, but it isn't. They have breakfast, lunch, soup vegan as well as cakes and plantbased milks for coffee.

We popped in for lunch today. Really friendly especially as we had a bit of tired 3 year old. Sandwiches were very tasty and exceptionally fresh. Soup was flavourful and hot which was perfect on a soggy day in the Lakes.

Wonderful cafe serving excellent lunch options with a lovely shaded patio. We came after a tough hike on a hot day with our dog and enjoyed Buddha bowls and rhubarb sparkles with really nicely flavoured falafels and hummus. Service was very lovely, especially to our parched dog who gladly accepted their offer of a dog bowl with water. We’re already thinking of coming back tomorrow. Update: we came back the next day and ordered takeaway salad and a sandwich. It made the perfect picnic for our hike. Huzzah.

We were welcomed in at 3.30 pm on a rainy April day, when all the other cafes and restaurants in Grasmere had turned us away or closed their doors. We were soaking as were our dogs but Greens turned out to be a haven for the tired walker, looking for wholesome nourishment. We met the lovely Karen, the owner, who left a London life to create something special in the lakes, a more wholesome and healthy offering than your average. Generous portions arrived, seemingly all home made. I had a very simple but delicious chicken and humous sandwich accompanying a thick warming red lentil soup. Followed by a glorious slice of their home-made Bakewell tart, made with an abundance of ground almond, less sugar and hence healthier than anything you would buy commercially (or even in Bakewell, where I had recently been). The staff (Karen’s offspring?) were lovely and attentive, and showed our dogs a lot of love. We left feeling that fate had handed us a winning card in bringing us to Greens!

Very friendly staff and great food! Definitively a gem in this town🌟 We ordered lamb curry flatbead with additional vegetable soup as part of the meal and an open sandwich - Rarebit with Attitude. Everything tasted delicious but I was most surprised by Rarebit with Attitude, it was so good!!! Sweet and savoury open sandwich that I wish I could eat it everyday😍 Definitely coming back if I come to the town again👍🏻

Perfect stop at the beginning or end of a walk. I'd like to come back for a proper meal here at some point. The lunch smelled amazing in the cafe. We stopped for some cake and tea. They gave us extra hot water, had a hot vegan brownie (among other vegan options) and when my parents in law got a piece of cake that had a big hole in the bottom (from a baking bubble) they gave them a second piece to make up for eat. The staff were really generous and friendly, and I'd give them more than 5* if I could.

Mathilde's Café is a highly recommended establishment that offers both top-notch coffee and delectable Scandinavian cuisine. A visit to the adjacent Heaton Cooper Studio is also strongly suggested. For a fantastic lunch experience, patrons can choose from excellent options such as Heidis of Grasmere, Mathildes Cafe (located next to the Heaton Cooper Gallery), and Greens of Grasmere. The café itself boasts a breathtaking view and a charming ambiance.
Nice cafe with a very adventurous menu! The building is very nice with large glass windows and good views over Grasmere and beyond. The food and drinks were very tasty with a lot of choice. Would recommend it!

Great coffee - our flat whites were spot on! This is a unique cafe in Grasmere with a clean, modern aesthetic and picturesque setting. Inside there’s a few tables, and if you’re lucky like us, you can enjoy your coffee by a floor to ceiling window that really brings the quaint garden indoors. Outside, the tables at the front of the cafe were mostly occupied by cheery dog owners and their pets, adding to the lovely vibe. The staff were lovely and very upbeat, despite the never ending queue of customers on a warm August day. We also loved the exhibition that was on in the gallery space, which also enhanced our experience here. I’d really recommend stopping in if you can.

Lovely lunch at Mathilde's on a Monday. Sun was shining view was lovely staff were friendly and lots of choice for food. I enjoyed the Hot dog, my Mum had the Meatballs will definitely recommend that then my Dad had the soup of the day. I enjoyed the Milk hot chocolate which was soooo delicious. Definitely worth a visit, beautiful paintings and artwork and ambiance.

Didn't expect to much to be honest given the service initially was pretty slow but then the food came and it was immaculate. Gorgeous modern cafe in an absolutely stunning little town. Although staff struggled to keep up with orders (it was over Easter), they were all friendly and keen to assist. Would definitely recommend.

What stunning view from this cafe... picturesque...had tea , cake and chips from here , service good.It is an art store and cafe both. The saffron pistachio cake that we ordered looked great but taste wise it was alright but will highly recommend it for the location. I also liked how they had real flowers in little vase on tables , most cafe's these days have artificial.

Wonderful place. Stopped in for a reviving pot of tea after a walk around the lake. Sunny, buzzy and a delicious Scandi inspired menu. Best hot cross bun I’ve ever had. Gingerbread also very tasty. 😋 All the other food we saw coming out looked amazing too (hot dogs, schnitzels). Art gallery is quality with some skilful water colours of the local landscapes on show.

What a gem in Grasmere! Cosy, lovely cafe serving delicious food and drinks. All the food menu looked so good and the cakes are different and attractive. I could sit there all day to watch people walk by. The fact that the cafe is located inside/next to the Heaton Cooper Studio sets a unique, artistic atmosphere. I felt like I escaped the touristy realm for the time I was there. I had a spring salad with mint dressing and toasted buckwheat, topped with blue cheese. I enjoyed the flavours and how everything came together in a bowl. Huge amount of cheese worth £1.50 extra. Good portion to keep me going. Lovely filter coffee and yummy hot chocolate! The only regret is I didn't have the cakes because I was so full from my lunch. I was literally so upset because they all look SO GOOD.
Prangvalai Poontawee — Google review
Art cafe with a Swedish twist, recommended in our cottage guestbook. Nice breakfast/lunch/pastry options. Requested for affogato with whisky marmalade and chocolate flavors but received two marmalade scoops :( luckily it is the less common flavor that arrives and it tastes quite nice. The citrusy whisky gelato also goes well with the espresso. Cheese and seeds scone looks and tastes good when toasted. A little more on the bread side. Not very crumbly, but the slight stickiness is also lovely. The shrimp and egg open sandwich is quite refreshing, especially the sour cabbage. Sourdough is a bit too oily— there’s literally oil dripping from it, but the bacon is super crisp. Service is friendly, but as said, can be better organized.

We enjoyed several treats over a few days during our stay in Grasmere: coffee, tea, gelato, savoury soups and burgers, tarted, cakes and scones. The staff were always friendly and helpful, the food fresh and very tasty, a varied seasonal menu and good value for money. Dog-friendly outdoors only and there is a sheltered outdoor area with a few tables for those with pets. The setting is beautiful and it’s a popular spot. Get there early for a full range of options because they do go fast 😋
Rebecca Dunkerley — Google review
Everything here is excellent. I even ordered a salad (unheard of, feels like a missed opportunity for something greater) and I was really happy with it. Open faced sandwich was also a joy (everything on it was playing a part and it was a delight according to the eater!), as was the soup. Cakes also excellent. My gingerbread and lingonberry cake was a complete win, and I'll be making similar back home! Service was relaxed and friendly, and they cleared plates as they'd spotted we were queuing for cake, and offered more water etc. Can't fault any of it.

Bar
The Tweedies Bar & Lodge is a cosy hotel in Grasmere with a pub, restaurant and garden. It's well-equipped for active guests with drying facilities, cycle storage and a comfortable sitting room with wood-burning stove. It also has several lawned areas as well as a vast beer garden for sunnier days.
Stayed one night in February 2023, the room was very good, the renovated interior of the building was excellent, the quality of the breakfast was excellent ( locally produced & high quality). We ate and drank in Tweedies bar. We ate at the pub grub end of the options really good, good beer too. Not cheap but it's expensive to operate in the Lake District it's a really really nice place everyone who stays in Grasmere ends up there.
Ian Wallace — Google review
I only ate here, the food was good, the service was reasonable, no complaints there. One thing that isn't specific to Tweedies but does apply, there is nowhere in the UK that takes advantage of a tourist like the lake district! £19+ for a cheeseburger is unbelievable! Doesn't matter how good a burger it is, £19 is never right.

Absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere was lovely, nice and quiet, yet a rumble and hum of conversation and slight hint of background music. The staff were attentive, funny, and approachable. They couldn't do enough for you. And the food, well...that was absolutely delicious, plentiful, and perfect. This is always my restaurant of choice in Grasmere, and never had a bad meal there... Visit and you won't regret it!

Outstanding hotel in perfect location with beautiful rooms. Rooms: The rooms are spacious and beautiful. Comfortable and well equipped. It is a dog friendly hotel and there were a lot of dogs when we visited I was so surprised when in the room we could only hear the very occasional dog. I love dogs so that was a plus anyway. The common room is Comfortable and lush. Service: Staff are very friendly. There was only one poor woman running breakfast service and I think she completed a marathon up and down and around everyone. She did an amazing job and service was great and she was so happy, please get that poor woman some help. In the attached bar it is super busy and not much space inside but outside is wonderful so happy to sit outside. Service is quick at the bar and well stocked. Location: Right in the middle of the small village close to all shops and some spectacular walks. Close to everything and could spend days rambling around that area.

We spent a few days in Grasmere and found Tweedies the perfect place to stop for sitting in the garden and having a few ales (good selection). My son has eaten (& drunk) here and recommended it. Lots of picnic tables (need more benches with backs). Inside bar and restaurant looks nice and they have live music at weekend. Recommend

It's a nice cozy bar area and the beer good. What I did not like was no clear displaying of prices, no change so would only take card, the less than friendly staff and lastly when you finish a pint, they swoop and almost snatch your glass from your hand. All most peculiar, as it could be an awesome place, but for me it was rather disappointing. I only went to the Bar and did not stay in the hotel.
Steve Crossley — Google review
Great food and drink and atmosphere. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. To access the bar from the hotel does involve walking around the outside of the hotel. Not normally a problem, but in the appalling weather we had a bit of an issue. We successfully changed our meal reservation from the bar to the hotel restaurant to overcome the challenge!👍

A wonderful hotel in a great location. The room we stayed in was great although I was perhaps a touch too tall for the low ceiling of the mezzanine, however this didn't affect our stay. The provided breakfast was excellent and in a lovely breakfast lounge in an area of the hotel. The staff are polite in both the hotel and in the bar, which also has an awesome selection of ales.

This was the second time we visited, and the food was just as delicious. We had the meat sharing platter, and it was worth every penny! High quality food and the plate was really well portioned. The bar staff were welcoming and friendly. There was a roaring fire which was definitely appreciated with the wet and stormy weather outside. Good choice of local ales 🍺 Dogs Welcome, we had 3 and they were all welcomed! 🐕 I'm sure we will be returning next year, I would go out of my way to visit for lunch and experience that meat platter again!

Tweedies Bar and Lounge came highly recommended by friends, especially for their burgers, so we were excited to give it a try. However, our experience was a bit mixed, and it didn't quite live up to our expectations. We ordered the much-talked-about burger, hoping for a flavorful and juicy delight. Unfortunately, what we received felt rather compact and appeared to be more on the processed side. The taste, too, didn't quite match the rave reviews we'd heard. We couldn't help but wonder if the football match being on might have affected the quality of the food that day. On a more positive note, we decided to try the fish and chips, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The dish had a nice flavor and was enjoyable. Despite the initial disappointment with the burger, we believe in giving places a fair chance. It's possible that our visit coincided with an off day, especially with the football match going on. We would be willing to return to Tweedies Bar and Lounge for another try, hoping to experience the food at its best. Sometimes, even the best places have their off moments, and we're hopeful that the next visit will leave a more lasting positive impression.

Faeryland Grasmere is a charming spot on the water's edge where you can indulge in a delightful experience. You can hire colorful rowing boats and explore the magical setting, perhaps catching sight of sprites dancing among the reeds. The café offers an extensive selection of 30 loose-leaf teas to accompany your scones, jam, and cream, served in elegant china cups.
Beautiful views across Grasmere. Boats to hire and kids able to buy food and feed the ducks. Also delicious coffee. A proper little haven.

Great row boat hire on grasmere. Quiet lake so nice to row out around the island and back. One hour hire leaves plenty of relaxing time with the oars up to admire the views. Coffee at the café is very nice and wholesome cakes on offer.

One of my favourite places to come for tea and scones in the entire country. Hidden gem with SO many teas to try out. All sourced specially and blended perfectly. So peaceful and served with China cups. Knocked off a star as I often turn up to find they have closed early or not opened at all despite their website saying open :( Please update the Facebook to say so I don’t walk all the way to find you closed! Other than that, perfection!

Visited in May 2022. Hired a rowing boat. It was £24 per hour for two, plus a £20 cash deposit (if you don’t have cash, you’re asked to leave something like a phone or credit card with them). Good instructions before setting off. Safety equipment offered. A circuit around the nearby island will take you an hour, with rest stops and time to take in the stunning scenery. Had a nice coffee as well.

Very beautiful place.! Good place to enjoy Tea and some excellent cakes with reasonable rates. Also, you can hire a boat and row it yourself for £25 per hour. Free parking on location while you are in the property enjoying cafe or boating. Also if you want to explore the lake you can opt to park in nearby parking which is a long stay parking. Overnight camping not allowed.

A peaceful & charming spot for tea and cake. The scones were delicious and the staff were friendly. The location is a real sun spot to sit and watch the ducks and rowing boats.
