Museums
The Gunma Museum of Natural History boasts an impressive collection centered around dinosaurs, fossils, taxidermy and historical dioramas. Visitors flock to this expansive museum to marvel at the exhibits and learn about the natural world. It is a popular destination for families with children, who are captivated by the displays and interactive activities offered. The museum provides ample opportunity for photo-taking, allowing visitors to capture memories of their experience.
This is a great museum to learn about dinosaurs and animal history. You can see various dinosaurs bones and taxidermy of many animals. You can stay for hours in this museum. Dinosaurs were bigger than I imagined. I felt sorry for animals that went extinct because of humans. It’s a good place to teach kids about the importance of biodiversity.

Had a fantastic time and was blown away by everything they had to see. Lots of local plant and wildlife to see! Kids loved it! Will be back!

It was a lovely afternoon activity on a gloomy day. There is a message at the very end of the exhibit which was very moving. Basically, it was talking about how special our planet is, and how important it is to protect it. I very much enjoyed my time.

A good museum in the area! Definitely a place to visit!
Mr. No Tengo Dinero — Google review
All information at each exhibit is in Japanese, except the name of the exhibit which is also written in English. The exhibits are very visual so you can get by without reading Japanese. However, the information provided is very interesting and educational. Same with the interactive media - Japanese only. I can read Japanese so I didn't ask, but it maybe worth asking at the reception if they have an English brochure. Parking is a disaster on a busy day. No parking attendents directing the flow. Elevator is concealed - you have to ask to be brought to it from the lower floor. Its visible and accessible from the upper floor. Good value for money. Kids are free in. The kids enjoyed it and learned a lot. Good rainy day location. It gets excellent reviews, but we've been to many museums in Japan and I found it to be just average.

Gunma Safari Park

Outdoor Activities
The Gunma Safari Park is an animal park that offers guided bus tours to see various animals such as big cats, giraffes, and elephants. For a more personal experience, it is recommended to drive through the designated area where visitors can get up close with the animals. The park also features a petting zoo with birds and rabbits that visitors are allowed to touch while following safety rules. Additional activities include feeding bengals and holding hamsters.
Fantastic experience! Definitely a must see. It’s wonderful to see animals in large enclosures. The whole family really enjoyed the drive through safari.
Tokyo Viking — Google review
We went there with our own car. The area with the farm animals it was nice. Animals seem overall healthy but some animals specially the cheetah, lions and other wild cats are sharing a very small space and looked quite stressed with people coming close. The loud pop music played in the park was quite annoying. They should play some nature sounds or just let the animals have some peace.

It is a good place to spend time with family. You can use your own car or use safari car or safari bus. There is ¥500 fee to enter the park with your own car. We ride our own car for safari. It took ¥2700/person + ¥500 for rental navigation tab in english. It was good to see animals roaming without any bars. Driving through the pride of Lions was thrilling experience. In the middle of safari, you can park and take a walk in “walking safari zone” where they have caged animals including both herbivores and carnivores.

Recommend to go by personal car and enjoy this zoo by drive in the area where is settled for drive through. You can get close with all animals in that area. Very excited when arrive at tigers and lions zone. Please follow the rule for your safety. The zoo is very wide area. There are variety of animals. There is walking zone too. The rabbit cage also fun because the zoo allow you to touch the rabbits but you have to run and catch them. Please careful that the rabbits may bite you. And the others activity you can do here such as feeding bengal, hold hamsters.

A very good experience, can see that the animals are hyper and happy . The area is very clean and the animals is not provoking. I think they have very good management. We drive along the roads and can look at the animals closely

Lovely place to go. My kids really enjoy it. Currently if you live in gunma children are free, but bring proof of residency.
Thomas A — Google review
Great experience! We could go around in our car and they gave us a tablet audio guide. A lot of the animals come close to the car, and you have to stop for animals all over the road which was fun. About halfway, we stopped and could go around a walking safari which was fun. Lots of animals to see and we could touch and feed some. Plenty of toilet facilities, a gift shop, and a small amusement park which was fun for the adults and the kids. A great stopover on the way to other sights in Gunma. We spent two hours here but didn’t know about the amusement park in advance, so we probably could have spent a bit more time there. Recommended!

Myogi Shrine is an ancient mountain shrine, boasting traditional Edo architecture and nestled amongst trees. A popular spot for tourists, especially during cherry blossom season. It can be reached by a short walk from Matsuida Station and showcases a magnificent temple surrounded by cafes and museums. For the adventurous, there is a hiking trail to Mount Myogi from the temple area with various difficulty levels including rocky hills and cliffs to cross using chains.
Beautiful temple full of nature and traditional Japanese architectures! They synchronize really well with all things there! The myogi mountain background is also breathtaking scenery as well. Today was a bit rainy day but if you look out from the top of the place you’ll see the beautiful city of Takasaki! The place is really clean so be respectful and keep it nice and cozy! Come and enjoy! Cheers 🥂
Mr. No Tengo Dinero — Google review
Wonderful place to visit specially during cherry blossom. From Matsuida Station, walk few minutes to this temple area. The temple itself is quite magnificent, and there are some nice cafes and even a museum in the surroundings. Past the temple, the hiking trail to Mount Myogi starts. The main path is a medium level hike (you can choose more demanding routes if that is what you want, with rocky hills and cliff to cross with chains). We did the hike but visiting only the temple was worth coming.

Attraction: Nice place to visit on your way to your destination. Many buildings are closed, so you can only see them from the outside. There are two rather large buildings that you can walk through one has a second story with a few exhibits you can read about. There's not that much walking since the museum is quite small. Fees: We paid $1,000 yen per person, but there are discounted rates for children. Food: There are several places for small snacks and light meals outside of the museum. We didn't try any of them and so can't recommend. Parking: There's no parking specific to the museum but there are small parking lots spread around town at the entry. Going rate is $500 yen for a full day.

#Kenny's Tour Day n Nigh' Tomioka Silk Mill, recently approved as World Cultural Heritage. This is No.05 venue I wouldn't tell other people. I definitely don't recommend other people to bring guests for the time being until the refurbishing ends in next Spring/Summer. The moment I visited it was under refurbishing and main interior aspects were hidden somewhere instead photos and panels were exhibited. Despite under construction they charge visitors NORMAL admission fee JYen 1,000 plus extra charge of JYen 200 for you to see actual construction. NO way. It should be opposite as the appearance value of the venue is less than so expected as World Cultural Heritage(WCH). Kenny @ Justavi 誠に残念な管理・展示方針で、このままでは早晩経営が苦しくなりそう。

One of the world Heritage Sites of Japan. Full of its historical remains. Access is really inconvenient, however if you have a car its easy. The walking inside the Silk mill feels like you are living at 18th century. It really feels that you time travel and went back to 18th.

Tomioka Silk Mill dates from 1872 and is one of the earliest extant examples of an industrialised mill or factory from Japan. It stopped producing silk reels in 1987 after 115 years and has now become a museum showcasing Japan’s industrial heritage. It features detailed and informative displays about the history of the site and the silk making process. Entrance costs 1000 yen. The town is best visited from the nearby city of Takasaki.
Raymond Lind — Google review
If you take the Jyoshin Electric Railway from Takasaki, the return fare from Takasaki Station to Jyoshu-Tomioka Station costs 1,620 yen and an entrance ticket to Tomioka Silk Mill costs 1,000 yen, for a total of 2,620 yen. If you buy a discounted return ticket to visit Tomioka Silk Mill at Takasaki Station, the price is 420 yen cheaper at 2,200 yen. If you wish to purchase a special commemorative ticket, please make sure to buy it at the ticket office, not from a ticket machine.

Sights & Landmarks
The Nukisaki Shrine, located in the Tomioka area, is a must-see attraction. It features wooden pavilions and an ornate 17th-century shrine that can be reached by descending a long staircase lined with cherry trees. The shrine's unique placement and well-maintained decorative buildings provide visitors with a calming and centering experience regardless of their spiritual beliefs. The main stone steps leading to the shrine's entrance offer great photo opportunities.
I think it is one of the “must see” locations in the Tomioka area. Usually uncrowded, you can enjoy the unusual placement of the shrine, down a long flight of stone steps. There are large old trees and well maintained decorative building to appreciate. The calming, centering feeling you receive from such places with our without spiritual belief is certainly worthwhile. Enjoy walking up the main stone steps in the front. Bring your camera.

(Translated by Google) While driving, I really wanted to eat ramen, so I found a restaurant near the end of lunch time (after 2:00 p.m.) and went in. There were two groups of customers at that time. ``Ogiya Ramen'' had caught my eye for some time and I wanted to try it out, so I was feeling a little adventurous. The interior of the store had a somewhat nostalgic feel to it, and was built in the same way as cars and ramen. The restaurant had a counter and a table for four people, but for some reason most of the chairs at the counter had paper written with an "X" on them, making it impossible to sit down. I don't think it has anything to do with Corona, but it was strange. The taste and price of the ramen is just average from a chain restaurant, so it's not something that makes me a repeat customer. I ordered miso ramen and Chinese wonton noodles, and although I felt that the miso ramen didn't have enough punch, I felt that they were a little particular about using thick noodles and differentiating them from the thin noodles of the Chinese wonton noodles. The miso ramen had fresh grated garlic in it, and the soup didn't have much of a punch, so it was a little strong, which was a bit of a shame. I felt disappointed because the overall taste was as good as I could imagine... Ramen restaurant
"Iseya" is a nostalgic and old-fashioned ramen shop that offers a taste of traditional Chinese noodles. The shop has a historic charm and is known for its authentic flavors that evoke memories of the past. In addition to their signature ramen, they also serve sekihan rice balls, inari sushi, melon soda, and other classic dishes.
(Translated by Google) Ramen is only Chinese noodles! It's an old-fashioned taste, but on the contrary, it's a taste that can't be eaten now. The ultimate cup of chilled body. It was a shop that seemed to come out as a lonely gourmet. Other than ramen, sekihan rice balls, inari sushi, melon soda, etc. Astringent! I got a towel to celebrate the New Year.
