Haruna Shrine

Shinto shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Haruna Shrine, an ancient Shinto shrine situated along Haruna River, hosts various festivals throughout the year and is a great spot for those in search of a place to pray solemnly. The construction of the shrine appears to be ongoing; however, it remains accessible via bus from Takasaki Station. Along the way, visitors can enjoy picturesque views of the area's scenery including remaining snow from previous days.
Super nice peaceful place I wasn’t expecting that good but it’s really awesome enjoyed a lot the waterfalls the mountains the trees and greenery all around

Beautiful, serene and tranquil shrine in the mountains of Takasaki City. This shrine is really old and now undergoing major renovation works. It's still very much worth a visit if you're in the area.
Matan Katz — Google review
The shrine area was magical. It felt like walking into a fairy-tale. Also, I highly recommend the hike from the shrine to Haruna lake. It is difficult, but the view over the lake is amazing.

Good place to walk to a main building of the shrine. Also there are many nice Soba noodle restaurants in front of the shrine gate.

Not too touristy, 1,300 year old campus of shrines curved out on the side of mountains in Gunma Prefecture. Very somber, impressive buildings - not because they are foiled in gold or they have the record ranking size, but because they have quietly endured the time, and still existing. When I went there, it was the 2nd day of the New Year, and yet still, not too many people were there, daring the bitter cold air of the cedar woods and frozen water falls. I live in western NY, so I know cold - this place carried it's own winter bitter! True to the essence of Shintoism, even the smallest and the most eroded structures are still kept, tendered and their dieties are well respected. A little Cha-Ya (tea house) half way up the lane that's leading up to the main shrine, reminded me of how things were perhaps 1,000 years ago, treating those who have traveled days or weeks, or even month to get there, on foot. ( I'm pretty fit BUT their official "15 minutes to the top shrine" was a bit of a stretch - a handful of really old ladies in their 80- 90 something were walking with a cane, taking rest every few steps up a very steep stone starts) This place is famous for the plums. Their Plum Cake (Ume Manju) was very tasty, with a whole cooked plum inside, wrapped inside of not too sweet red bean paste.

A very good place to visit for those who are looking for a solemn place to pray. It's my second time to visit this Shrine and it seems the construction is not yet finished so I can't rate it 5 stars. From Takasaki Station, we ride a bus and stop on the foot of the Shrine. When we arrived, there are remains of snow from the last day. It took us 15minutes to reach the Shrine since we enjoyed the scenery Haruna Shrine offers. The road is cemented, there are few sloppy stairs but it's not that hard to ascend. I've seen a shop where you can buy foods in case you've got a hungry stomach. For those who have cars, there is parking near the entrance of of the Shrine.

Gunma prefecture has significant place in the history of japan and Mt. Haruna can be described as the one integrating the harmony and cultural depth of the japanese ethical principles. The shrine itself is complementary to the ethical practice. Very calm, excellent atmosphere and elegant. If you get a chance to visit I recommend to hold some extra time and walk along side ways towards lake haruna. It's simply breathtaking..

A tranquil place with solemnity where you'll find a nice trail leading to a Japanese shrine of hundreds years old inside the mountain. Everything is so original without much artificial decoration. Lucky that not many foreign tourists (particularly.those from.mainland Chinese) know this place, the site remains quiet and one can really enjoy an escape of busy life here walking leisurely deep in mountain. Definitely a five star tourist site as of today.

for sure very nice !!' A little girl came up to us and said she is the guardian at Haruna and wished us much luck today. In return my friend gave her a bite of his sandwich & I wished her a trouble-free day. (wonder what country the girl was from -- > Nepal ???

It was local market + museum. Bus stop by for rest time but it was useful that we can rest bit, taste local food with know about the Yamba History. Hope this kind of rest zone will spread to all the Japan areas.

Pretty cool road station. There are great views of forests and water in all directions. Parking is pretty limited and the shops are high traffic due to other station’s location next to Yamba Dam. The ice cream stand has some excellent flavors I recommend the blueberry vanilla soft cream combo - I don’t recommend the coffee jelly soft cream combination as there is really nothing special about it.

Local market with cheap vegetables, and great view near the station!

Dropped by on our way home from Kusatsu Onsen. Toilets are clean and if you buy something you get a free cup of amakuchi rice wine, not sure if it’s all year round though. We do regular stop over here each year.

Only came here for the stamp but happy we stopped! Cute michinoeki with a free footbath, hot sweet potatoes and a curry restaurant as well as a local farmers market. Theres a convenience store that sells cute and delicious pastry. Its right next to a huge blue lake which you can see whilst in the footbath. The scenery of the lake, the bridge and ths mountains is breathtaking.

Karuizawa Snow Park

Mentioned on
Ski resort
Outdoor Activities
Karuizawa Snow Park is a modest hotel located just 5 minutes away from the station. This ski resort offers casual rooms and an on-site skiing/snow park, hot spring baths, and tennis. Visitors can enjoy sled and tube rides with their kids, while a walkalator saves them the trouble of going back and forth. The resort also features a tiny house for kids to play in, as well as a bouncy snowman that both children and adults can enjoy.
Great place to enjoy the day, despite the lack of snow, the snow maker helps some of the fields for skiing. The snow park allow the small kids to enjoy funny time in winter.
Alex Y — Google review
A proper place to enjoy the snow. Whether you are skiing, snowboarding or just to play at the snow park, this is the place. The amenities are also family and kids friendly. I believe the place is well kept and parking should not be a problem.

Very flexible activities to select and pay for accordingly. Kids love the place. I like the fact that it's not over crowded.

Jojo Romero Dagtay — Google review
They have natural snow and the view of the mountains around is amazing. They should lower the price for the snow play area for little kids though, considering that many people come with small children. The parking is free though so overall the experience is still better compared to other ski resorts in Karuizawa. I didn't try the food in the restaurant because it looked disappointing... Lots of curry, ramen and fried stuff, Japanese fast food...
M M — Google review
The paradise for families with small children. We went there with my 16 months old to show her snow for the first time. It was the end of the season (March) so some of the snow was mushy but there was more than enough left to have fun with her. They have a “presi park” that’s just amazing for kids under 8, with many things you can do: sledge, tubbing, bouncy castle, many snow toys like outdoor slides, wheelbarrows, snow striders etc… Inside there’s also a play area for kids if you want to go to when they’re tired or cold. They have changing tables, high chairs and sell diapers. The cherry on the cake is that there are so many families with babies a few months old in carriers to pre-teens. Cries and snot aren’t look down on, it’s just expected as part of a family vacation. I really like that kids here are part of your day and it’s not a resort where you put them into daycare. Will definitely come back with the next kiddo
Claire Lukasiewicz — Google review
It’s a nice place for beginners and people who want to go skiing or snowboarding. There is a playground for your little ones. This place is a complete package for a family trip. This is a huge parking space.

The place was really lit! It was a safe haven for me! It felt surreal! 😊 Coming from a country where it's literally summer all year round 😂✌🏿, to see snow was always on top of my bucketlist ever since I was a kid! Thank you Karuizawa Snow Park and Resort for this great experience! 💙 . . . . . #snowexperience #snow2020 #wheninjapan #wandering #travel #travelwhileyoucan #skiingforthefirsttime 💙

The place is about 5 minutes from the station. It will cost you flat rate of JPY710 to get here (the cab driver didn’t charged us extra). It is convenient for people who want to enjoy Karuizawa with kids because of sled and tube ride. They have a walkalator to save your legs going back and forth (it’s cool!). Kids can also enjoy the little tiny house right after you climb with the walkalator. Bouncy snowman is also nice because the adults can get in as well to watch their kids. And there’s a nice kebab shop just outside the area and it tastes really good. Overall, I highly recommend this place for families with children.
Kentaro Mitsuma — Google review
It’s nice place for beginners and people who wants to go skiing or snowboarding somewhere not too far from their place. And there is outlet malls and beautiful places nearby so after skiing or snowboarding people can also visit beautiful places in there.

(Translated by Google) Up to Maekakeyama. I climbed from the Asama Sanso trailhead, so I didn't climb Mt. Kurobara. I thought it would be a good idea to climb there this time since I had climbed there before, but if you want to see the whole picture of Mt. Asama, it would be better to climb it. There was snow near the top of the mountain, and some people were wearing chain spikes. Since it is an independent peak, the wind is strong. The path was easy to walk from start to finish.

(Translated by Google) I went on a weekday between three consecutive holidays in September. It was my first time eating raw corn, and it was very sweet and delicious. The cherry tomatoes were delicious, but perhaps because it was a bad day, there were very few ripe ones, which was a shame. The other pears were unripe, and the prunes were overripe and bursting with flesh, so I thought I would have enjoyed it quite a bit in August. It was 1,500 yen, but the all-you-can-eat corn experience alone was worth it. gradually? The corn was also being eaten up. (Translated by Google) Young landlady? Everything is ruined by this person's arrogant customer service. Filled with as many green beans and potatoes as you like, put them all in a plastic bag and head to the reception desk. It took 5.6 minutes from the field to the reception desk, pushing the trolley around. There was a separate charge for potatoes added to the bill, and when I looked suspicious, the young landlady got involved. "It's not in the bag. If it's like that, you wouldn't say it was packed. It makes me question common sense." It must have come out of the bag while the cart was rattling around. I felt the worst at the end of a fun time with my child. The child's tension also dropped. Even though I've been going every year for over 10 years, I can't remember faces or names. In the end, he gets angry. The elderly president was a very nice person. That's why I look forward to going every year. This is exactly the pattern of the second generation destroying the company. In the end, I couldn't eat the potatoes for which I had to pay extra because the insides were damaged or eaten by insects. This young lady? If you see one at the reception desk, consider yourself out of luck and give up. If this person is not there, it is a great place where you can have fun all day and the kids will be very satisfied. Because of this person, my family will never go to Ishida Tourist Farm again. It's really disgusting.
