Megami Lake is a stunning recreational area surrounded by serene mountain views and diverse vegetation. The lake is well-maintained, providing visitors with a lovely promenade to walk around while enjoying the lush greenery in summer and the colorful foliage in fall. During winter, skiing is available while hiking opportunities arise in summer. Additionally, the lake hosts an enchanting Fairy Festival that adds to its charm.
Beautiful lake near the Yatsugatake mountain range. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re coming from Matsumoto or Karuizawa. Lots of skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer

Shirakaba Kogen Kokusai is a small ski resort that specializes in skiing and offers beginner and intermediate level runs on fresh powder. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of Mount Tateshina. The skiing area is compact and limited to skiing activities only, making it an ideal destination for those who mainly want to focus on skiing.

(Translated by Google) Visited on the afternoon of Saturday, March 16th, 2024. [Snowboarding ban lifted] Starting last season, snowboarding was also allowed. Snowboarding is allowed this season as well, except for some limited dates. If you prefer skiing only in the Lake Shirakaba area, "Blanche Takayama" is now your only option. However, the skiing ratio was still quite high. [Snow situation as of 3/16] Even though it's mid-March, there are no bushes out in the area, and it looks like there will be plenty of snow this year until the end of March. The snow quality at the top of the slope was fair for this time of year, and the bottom was heavy and wet. The quality of the snow was better than expected, even though the temperature was predicted to rise to nearly 10 degrees. Only the White Horse course was closed. [Characteristics of the slope] There are many parts, including the main course, that are surprisingly wide, allowing you to comfortably enjoy wide turns. However, the weak point is that there are no courses for complete beginners. If you can't get a good ride, it will be difficult to ride gondolas or lifts, and it will likely be limited to beginner parks with snow escalators. The "Rabbit Course", which is listed as a beginner's course, is narrower and less slippery. If you are new to skiing or snowboarding, we recommend the nearby ``Shirakaha 2in1'', which has a similar lift ticket and has a wide gentle slope (pleasure course and holiday course). There are many moderate slopes, and if you are a beginner who can swing well, you can spin the gondola without getting stuck. This is a fun slope for intermediate skiers. On the other hand, there are no steep slopes, so it may be unsatisfactory for advanced climbers. The Thoroughbred course, which is considered an advanced course, is a level that you can get down to without difficulty if you can do the Bogen properly. Considering it was a Saturday afternoon, there weren't many people, and there was almost no waiting for the gondola. In fact, considering it's a small ski resort with only one gondola, lift tickets are too expensive (1-day ticket on holidays: 5,400 yen, 4-hour ticket: 4,860 yen), and I feel like they're losing customers. [Overview] The advantage of this ski resort is its wide, medium-sized slopes that even intermediate skiers can ski comfortably on. There are few people and you can ski comfortably. Parking is also free except in front of the tourist center. On the other hand, it's the only one and it's small, so if you get tired of it, you can just move to Shirakaba 2in1, which has a common lift ticket. Personally, I was satisfied with it, but I gave it a rating of 4 because of the high price of the lift ticket.

Early in the morning (-6℃ on this day), the road to the ski resort turned to ice after passing Lake Shirakaba😱. We arrived at Shirakaba Kogen International Ski Resort while walking the icy road. There is a charge for parking near the gondola during the busy New Year holidays, but on weekdays after that, it is free. I arrived around 7:30 and was able to park without any difficulty. I'm glad it's close to the ski slopes 🤩. I'm also happy that the building is close to the restroom. The warm restroom warms my heart lol😆. Before the start of the gondola, we headed for Mt. Tateshina. There's no one there except the patrollers. A sticker runs next to the ski slope. While climbing the slope, I heard the signal for the start of the gondola 🙄. I thought it would start at 9:30, but it turned out to be an hour later and I was skipped. Maybe I should have waited 😀. The stickers were only usable on this slope, so you can't ski Mt. Shadow-cut picture, glass, music box museum of the world

(Translated by Google) I was moved to unexpectedly encounter a fantastic and beautiful space. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't remember Seiji Fujishiro's name, but I have a strong memory of his papercuts being used on NHK's ``Ohanashi no Kuni'' when I was a child. Naturally, I had never looked at Mr. Fujishiro's work in detail, and my only knowledge of ``cutting'' was something I made in kindergarten: ``cutting out a piece of paper and pasting a piece of cellophane over it.'' However, this time, I was surprised to see the actual cutouts up close for the first time and learn about their fine detail and delicate color expression techniques. The gradation of the sky, the folds of the clothes, the texture of the hair, all of the subtle coloring that could be mistaken for coloring if you were looking at it without knowing it, are all expressed by overlapping cellophane colors... It takes a lot of skill to draw illustrations of the parts that will become shadows, a sense of color for the colors used there, and extremely detailed and patient work to reproduce them... I know that if the artist does not have these elements in place, it will not be completed, which is true for works of art other than paper-cutting, but I have not been able to understand or evaluate my own paper-cutting until now. The technical level required for the work was shocking, partly because it was so low. The space surrounded by large works several times your height and the seasonal scenery of Lake Shirakaba is a sight to behold. Of course, I'm sure it will suit the viewers' sensibilities and whether they like it or not, but I hope they will enjoy immersing themselves in the space that is colored by the light contrasting with the shadows. Actually, as a child, I didn't like the way the eyes of the people in Mr. Fujishiro's cutouts were hollowed out (or should I say realistic?). This time, I didn't feel that way at all, and in fact, I was able to appreciate the greatness of the work to the point that I was even moved. Does that mean I've become an adult...? I thought to myself. There weren't that many music boxes on display, but it was soothing to hear the sounds of a live music box for the first time in a while. The time required was less than an hour for the paper-cutting and music box parts. The glass is not displayed in a museum, but for sale in a shop.

Insane amount of meticulously pasted shadow glass pictures. There were some truly grand gorgeous ones covering the entire corridor, hauntingly beautiful and mesmerizing. The only drawback was the complete lack of a/c and the poor ventilation inside the facility, which unfortunately made the visit less enjoyable especially during the recent heatstroke-ridden weather.

If you like teddy bears (cute), this is the place to be! Budget at least 1 hour for the museum, I went 1 hour before closing and finished the museum right on time. Also, be prepared to take many photos, all of the 11,000 bears in the museum are cute! The exhibits are themed based on countries and cultures (e.g. UN, Egypt, Swiss). There is a scavenger hunt where you have to find their mascot (Gutty) wearing different outfits. It's a pretty easy hunt but it would keep children entertained. For non-Japanese speakers: the counter staff speaks very minimal English, there's an English/Chinese language brochure. Exhibits are bilingual (English + Japanese). However, the activities are only in Japanese.

The ticket office was not crowded at all, so I bought my ticket right away. The sky was cloudy in the morning, but it was relatively empty. It was around noon that the number of people increased. From there, I only skied on the lower course, but this one had better snow quality. However, near the center of the course, the lower layer of ice is quickly exposed, so I think it's safer to ski using the full width of the course as much as possible. I myself am a snowboarder, and there are some people (snowboarders) who take advantage of the drops at both ends of the course to jump, but there are also people who do this without checking their surroundings, so please be careful. By the afternoon, the skies had cleared up, the snow surface was easy to see, and the course was empty, so even though we were up at 3:00, we were able to ski as hard as we could in the end. It was a satisfying day. There wasn't much traffic on the way home, and I was able to get home safely. Due to construction, some parts of Daimon Pass are open to traffic on alternate sides.

(Translated by Google) I used it from noon on Saturday, but it wasn't that crowded and it was easy to slip. My impression is that there are more schools and more popular. The rental place doesn't have many chairs, so it's easy to check the size of your boots while waiting in line. The view from the top is spectacular, and you should go there at least once. The course is wide in many places and there is little pressure. I didn't eat this time. MARK II — Google review
(Translated by Google) I used it on Saturday afternoon, March 16th. [Parking lot situation] There are two parking lots, one on the Core House 2in1 side and one on the Lumiere side. This time I parked on the Core House side, but only the 50m part near the slope is paved. The farther you go, the longer the walk will be, and your shoes will likely get muddy when skiing in the spring. Although there was no snow on the access road, there was still snow in the parking lot, and there were some areas where it was difficult to park on normal tires unless you were able to park on a paved area. As of 13:30, I couldn't park on the paved part and it was quite far away. The Lumiere side might be more vacant. [Slope status] Even though it was a Saturday afternoon, there was no need to wait for the lift. The course was wide in many parts, so I was able to ski without worrying too much. Only the canyon course was closed, the rest were completely open. The ratio of skiing to snowboarding seems to be slightly higher. Although the temperature was forecast to rise to nearly 10 degrees Celsius, the snow was not soggy, but the snow quality was tolerable, making it slippery for March. There is sufficient snowfall and it looks like we will be fine until the end of March. [Characteristics of the slope] The slope-based beginner course is the perfect slope for a rare debut on the slopes. The pleasure course on the Core House side and the holiday course on the Lumiere side have wide, gentle slopes, and are highly recommended for beginners in both skiing and snowboarding. The picnic course marked for beginners is narrow, at around 4m wide, and is not recommended for beginners. This is especially difficult for beginner snowboarders. On the other hand, the intermediate-to-advanced course at the top of the slope has a lot of slightly steep slopes, so even if you can hit the slopes well, it might be difficult for beginners. For intermediate level skiers and above, the slope is steeper than a certain level, so you can enjoy it without getting tired. [Overview] The wide gentle slope at the bottom of the slope is a beginner's paradise. The upper part of the slope can be enjoyed by intermediate level skiers (level 2) and above. The slopes are a little tough for intermediate skiers (level 3), so for those at that level, we recommend the nearby Shirakaba Kogen International Ski Resort. I gave it a rating of 4 because the lift tickets are expensive. A one-day holiday ticket costs 5,400 yen and a 4-hour ticket costs 4,860 yen, which are honestly expensive considering the size of the ski resort. Instead, parking is free even on Saturdays and Sundays.

(Translated by Google) The ski resort is short in length and wide in width. It's artificial snow, so the board can run on it. The view from the top is highly praised. It wasn't too crowded even on Saturday. Lockers and restaurants are also available. The parking lot is muddy from the middle, so if it's not covered with snow, it will turn into mud. I bought my lift ticket in advance online, where I could buy it without waiting in line, but it was difficult to know where to redeem it, so I had to look for it.
