(Translated by Google) Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus, located in Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture, is the largest keyhole-shaped tumulus in Nagano Prefecture, built in the mid-4th century during the early Kofun period, with a total length of about 100 meters. This kofun is famous among kofun fans. For the past few years, a special program called ``Mysterious Kofun'' has been broadcast on NHK General Television. It has been broadcast about four times so far, and a total of 20 ancient tombs have been introduced. This includes the Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus. I (living in Osaka Prefecture) have been studying archeology and ancient history for the past few years, and I've been touring ruins and ancient tombs all over the country with a single-lens reflex camera in hand. In early October, we toured Jomon ruins and museums in Yamanashi Prefecture. This time, I traveled by private car for a week from October 23, 2022, visiting archaeological and ancient history-related facilities and museums in Shinshu, as well as the ancient temples of Shiodadaira. The main objects related to archeology and ancient history are the Togarishi Jomon Archaeological Museum, the Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus, and the Omuro Tumulus Group in Nagano City. I visited Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus on October 26, 2022. Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus is located on top of a small mountain, and we took the tumulus tour bus (paid) from Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus Museum. The kofun is located higher up than I expected. The back of the front part of the tumulus is slightly elevated, and you can see the entire tumulus from here. It is a keyhole-shaped tumulus, but when viewed from above, its shape is bent into a dogleg shape. This is probably due to the topography of the mountain, but I have never seen another tumulus shaped like this. It seems that there were many haniwa lined up in the ancient tomb, but this was the first time I saw the distinctive gosugata-shaped haniwa. This is a very large haniwa with a wide hem. Since this is a tumulus from the early Kofun period, the burial facility built in the rear circle is a pit-style stone chamber. However, its size is extremely large, and it is said to be one of the largest in Japan. The stone chamber has been backfilled, but a full-size replica of it can be seen at the Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus Museum at the foot of the mountain. It was so loud that I couldn't even make a sound. You can see that it is the tomb of a huge powerful person. Near the Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus Museum is Shinano Village, where a village from the middle of the Kofun period, pit-style dwellings, and stilt buildings are recreated. Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus and Mori Shogunzuka Tumulus Museum were the highlight of our week-long trip to Shinshu.

When I finally found ``Amemiya no Watari Park'' and read the words written on the stone monument. "Whip quiet inn, cross the river at night" My mother was sitting there reciting poetry, and there was a passage in it that I heard at night. ``Fourth Battle of Kawanakajima'' The ``Uesugi Army'' set up camp on ``Tsumameyama'' saw that there was more ``cooking smoke'' rising from the ``Takeda Army'' position than usual, and the time for a decisive battle was decided. Find out what's nearby. ``Takeda army Yamamoto Kansuke'' tried to use a cavalry unit to disrupt the mountain at once from the rear of ``Tsumameyama'' early in the morning, but the ``Uesugi army'' noticed it quickly and avoided making any noise so as not to be noticed. In the middle of the night, we descended from Mt. Tsumame, crossed the shallow Amemiya of the Chikuma River, and moved to Kawanakajima. The situation at this time is ``Crossing the river at night in a quiet inn'' (The sound of the whip used to control the horse was also silent; we crossed the river in the middle of the night) Contrary to our expectations that it would be located on a riverbed, the surrounding area had transformed into a residential area. In the past, the riverbed was not protected by bank protection construction, so it must have been quite wide. A long time ago, I rode the Nagano Electric Railway Yashiro Line once. I had the impression that the park was full of ``apple orchards,'' but I can no longer find anything other than this park that indicates that this place was an important base for the Battle of Kawanakajima. There is no parking lot or play equipment. Is it more of a preservation of historical facts than a park?

(Translated by Google) I stopped by after seeing the signpost without knowing anything about it, but I was surprised to learn that it was a famous historical site that was the site of the Battle of Kawanakajima and was sung with the song ``Whipusei Shigen''. It's tucked away on the side of the road, so inconspicuous that you might miss it if you're not paying attention. There is almost no space to park your car in the area, which is surrounded by farmland and a residential area, so if you are going by car, I think it would be best to park a little further away and take a walk. The Amemiya Station ruins were also listed on this map, but they were erased! This must be the work of a heartless person! We will never tolerate such brutality! I want the ones I deleted without permission to disappear. (Translated by Google) Even though it's called a park, it's so small that you might want to refrain from visiting if there are other visitors, and there's only a stone monument, a guide map, and an explanatory text. Surrounded by houses and fields, the parking space is only large enough for a light car, and it is unclear whether it is a parking space in a park. The Chikuma River itself now flows in a faraway place, and there is no atmosphere reminiscent of those days.

(Translated by Google) It is located quite far away from the Chikuma River because the flow path of the Chikuma River was different than it is now. If you are a history buff, you might be thinking, "Is this the Amemiya Ferry?", but if you are not, you might be wondering, "What kind of place is this...?" If you are going with two or more people, we recommend that you go with a history buff.
