To be honest I came here just for the salt ice cream and wasn’t disappointed. Only four stars because beyond the ice cream there wasn’t much to see or do, all the same I’d come back for that delicious opportunity to put salt on my ice cream without feeling weird.
Well worth the 100 yen entrance fee if you can speak some Japanese as the staff are very friendly and have great stories to tell of the area and the history of salt making in the region.

From there, a staircase leads to an uphill hike lasting around ten minutes to reach the lighthouse.

Bonus tip #2: as you leave the place, cross the road to the other side and look to the left. There's a really nice waterfall (Tarumi Waterfall) that you can walk over to. I loved that the water just cascades right to your feet (before flowing further on to the beach just below you). On a hot day, the cold water is a godsend.
