Für mich der Schönste der drei großen Gärten oberhalb von Funchal!! Relativ großer Park. Unten im Bereiche des Teehaus viele bunte blühen Blumen. Das Highlight des Parkes liegt aber deutlich darin, das man hier uralte Baumbestände vorfindet. Teilweise so wuchtige Stämme, da könnten sich drei Personen zusammen um den Baum stellen und sich die Hände reichen, es würde nicht reichen, das die Hände zu einander finden. So alte Baumbestände kenne ich nur aus den Naturpark in den USA (sind hier natürlich nicht so viele , wie dort :-) ). Und auch angenehm, der Park strahlt eine unbeschreibliche Ruhe aus. Und selbst wenn 1 oder 2 Kreuzfahrtschiffe im Hafen liegen, ist es hier nicht so voll. INFO : Anreise mit dem Auto gut möglich, reichlich Parkplatzflächen in der Nähe des Eingangs zum Park. Auch eine gute Anreisemöglichkeit besteht mit dem Bus. Auf der Webseite vom Garten stehen die Busverbindung UND Zeiten. These gardens are not so good as Monte Palace of Botanical Garden, but still worth -visiting if you have some free time yet to spend. Free parking in front of the enterance.

What a feast for the eyes. This place is sheer paradise. I wanted to stay forever. I felt like I was in England with such glorious trees and scenery. Tip - get Bus 37 from Funchal.

37 bus gets there from central funchal, sorta hourly on a Sunday but check the timetable. 15mins trip. Very steep uphill. Lovely gardens with tea rooms at the bottom. The Lady Garden was sublime. We went on a rainy day, was very atmospheric.

Very easy to get to from Funchal by the no 37 bus which stops outside the entrance. The entrance is €10 per adult. There are some lovely viewpoints throughout the gardens and plenty of interesting plants and trees to enjoy. I think that the signage could be improved especially as the paths are mendering and there are private areas embedded in the grounds. We visited the tea house which is positioned on the far side of the gardens on the borders of the golf club. The coffee and cake was OK.There was some seating inside the tea house but the outdoor seating was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned for months. The toilets which were situated in another part of the garden were very clean.

Lovely walk around peaceful gardens. We enjoyed the package entrance which included a glass of wine, custard tart and tea or coffee in the tea house.

Huge garden. You don't know what will be at the next corner. Very complex. 2024 mid jan blossoming plants which I noticed: Michelia/Magnolia doltsopa, Telopea speciossima, Protea cynaroides, Banksia coccinea and integrifolia, Crotalaria semperflorens, Sparmannia africana, Strelitia nicolai and reginae, Aenium areoreum. I saw a brave Madeira wood pigeon which ate the Davidia involucrata's winter fruit. Other fantastic and jaw-dropping plants: Huge Araucaria angustifolia,bidvilii,exelsa, Cedrus brevifolia and atlantica var.glauca, Washingtonia robustra, Furcraea parmentieri, Pinus patula ,Cinnamomum camphora and leafless Liliodendron tulipifera. Also attractive with dried spikey fruitpeeled tree was Banksia serrata and nearly blossoming was Saurauia napaulensis. Phormium flax and a variation which was "Yellow wave" were also spectacular. Enjoy all. Come to visit. Highly recommended.

Nice gardens Moderately expensive (10 euros adults 5€ teenagers) would have been better if we hadn't gone in the pouring rain and howling winds. Nice tea room. Definitely worth a visit on a nice day. Some v suggestive topiary 🤣

A huge romantic garden either with endemic species or Asian, Australian, African and American plants as well. Long paths to wander and well planned flower gardens to have a rest on a bench. The tea house has nice variety of cookies and good coffee. The views on Funchal is amazing!!!

Beautiful place. Nice walk however there is quite few steps to go through if you want to go the the very end. Still nice relaxing time. On other side you have a cable car which take you right to the beach. Snorkelling was amazing plenty of sea live. Little restaurant was pretty good. Staff extremely friendly.

A panoramic spot with spectacular views east and west. Even more so if you press on to the end of headland (note that involves probably a couple of hundred steps down and back). Also worth visiting the beautiful stony beach below while you’re nearby, it’s an easy walk down, there’s a good Bar, then the best way back is by cable car.

Perfect sunset place. You can sit at the top of the hill and enjoying it from above or go down to the beach and do the same. Both locations are recommended!

We walked here from Canico and enjoyed the view and exercise along the way. It was a bit of a hike and we were happy to arrive and spend some time relaxing while enjoying the view. The history surrounding the meaning of this statue had me in a thoughtful mood while touring the grounds. The view is so beautiful and the statue is amazing to look at. Definitely worth a visit. Free to enter.

Went here around 1pm and it was cloudy but make sure you still wear sunscreen! Don't let the clouds fool you. Parking was free and only a few minutes of a walk to the statue. Then you can go down the path to get a better view of the ocean and the cliffs. After your hike back up, stop by the small cafe and enjoy a refreshing drink while taking in the view.

A special place to visit. Plenty of parking and in a stunning location with views up and down the coast. I've visited Christ the Redeemer in Rio, seen the one in Lisbon, and now Cristo Rei in Madeira. All with special memories and every one beautiful

Lovely tranquil location at Garagau, Madeira. Plenty of parking, there is a restaurant at the top, also a cable car (approx. 3 euros return) down to the volcanic sand beach, with another bar restaurant down there too. Well worth a visit.

This place is part of the island's history. Not necessarily glorious if you read the historical facts. The statue was built 4 years before the one in Brazil and I assume it is a form of redemption for this place and the events from centuries ago. It is also worth coming here for the wonderful views, especially in the evening. The capital in the distance in beautiful colors.

It's a lovely and scenic place to spend many hours just gazing and the ocean and the landscapes. There are cable cars to get to the bottom and there is a cafe to enjoy a drink with a view. I love seeing all the cacti surrounding the area. To get here by bus I recommend taking bus 155 near the cable cars in Funchal city center.

Beautiful viewpoint of the water, of the city, of the statute. You get a bit of everything. We want for sunset and the views were stunning. Not crowded at all. They also have a cable car that takes you down to the beach. Great place to visit.

We had the pleasure of visiting Cristo Rei in Madeira, and it was an awe-inspiring experience that left a lasting impression. It is a nice spot, views are amazing. There is a restaurant and also there is a cable car to take you down to Garajau beach. There is diving opportunity and a nice beach bar.

Wonderful place to learn diving and get the first diving experience. Did a first try dive here, the guide Jessica explained everything and made sure we where safe at all the time. Great time underwater, will come back for sure! Good to know: to find the diving center you need to walk through the hotel lobby, there are many parking spots in front of the hotel which are very cheap.

Best dive center in Madeira, also the cheapest, after talking with friends that trues other companies and comparing prices and quality services we would recommend Atalaia in Madeira. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t done one dive ever or if you are PADI instructor there they have equipment, guides they speak Fluente English Portuguese and German. Discovery’s starting at 45€. Really nice experience also really nice spots for diving in Madeira

What a great experience! We had our first scuba diving lessons and it was amazing. There were two instructors for two of us, so we had help and felt safe all the time. Definitely would do more hours here but we have to leave soon. During the lessons we got a theoretical part, went to the pool and then went into the sea - during that time we had a lot fun, learned a lot and got to experience the full diving adventure - both instructors knew exactly how to help and what to do! We even got to see a turtle, seahorse and lots of beautiful fishes! Thank you for everything!

Today and saterday I have done two wonderfull dives in the housereef of Atalaia dive center. I am a 80+ dives rescue diver and from moment one I found profesionality in here. During the first dive they first want to check how you dive which is a good thing, cause someone with 80 dives can still be an amateur. This shows that safety is one of the most important things for them (!). After this we did the dive in this wonderfull reef. I saw a lot of fish, plants which I dont even know the name of. I upload the photos to show everyone how amazing diving is here, and how proffesional they are. I highly recommend them, and I wanna thank Sascha, the instructor I dove with for the buetifull dives I have had with him!

Completed My SSI certification at this centre and couldn't have been happier with the whole experience. Pedro was our instructor and was nothing short of an excellent teacher. Calm, relaxed and understood that we wouldn't get things on our first try. He also went into plenty of detail on all aspects of diving especially safety measures. Not only warning us on what we should and shouldn't do but also explaining why we should or shouldn't do them. The overall staff experience we got was stellar! You immediately felt welcome and "one of the gang". Recommended to anyone considering diving to go down and book! They have a wide selection of courses and single dives that you can can do, ranging from no experience to very experienced. Oh and if you like ocean wildlife. This should be an absolute no brainer. Tuna, barracuda, cuttlefish, octopus, pufferfish, eels, lobster, crab, and many other colorful fish all around their local dive site!

Fantastic week of freediving and scuba diving with Atalaia! I've done freediving sessions and an SSI course with Jessica over a period of one week and it was a great experience!! Jessica is an excellent and extremely experienced instructor that focused on what I could improve in my freediving technique and walked me over exercises that helped me make very good progress. I felt safe and relaxed - something really important in freediving. I also have great memories of warm up sessions we've done - relaxing and calming in the morning sun and right next to the water. The team at Atalaia also recommended a scuba diving course I wasn't aware of and that was actually a much better option for what I wanted to accomplish. The location was perfect for me - right on the ocean and away from city noise. Also, equipment is in excellent condition and well cared for. I'm planning to come again in the future!

Atalaia is an amazing diving centre. Located at an amazing place, the people at Atalaia welcomed us very friendly and open. The instructors were very professional, whilst being friendly and willing to think with us. Because of that, diving here is even more of a joy. Their house reef is truly beautiful, with a plethora of different species of fish and other sea life, and very good visibility. Even though the sea could be rough (we visited in January), entering and exiting was made very easy and safe by the instructors. The gear we got was in very good shape, owing to the fact that they replace it every two years. All in all, we can very much recommend this place, whether you're a beginner or advanced diver.

I’m a new diver with only 11 dives, including my owd course dives. Me and my boyfriend did four dives with Atalaia Diving Center + a refresher in a pool. Even though I was crazy nervous all the time, we had great time diving in three different dive spots with three different instructors and divemasters. Everyone was very helpful and we got good information before and after dives. And perhaps next time I’ll remember to breathe more peacefully.

It’s an amazing place for scuba diving in Madeira. Location is fantastic. Staff was amazing, helpful and very familiar. We left our daughter there she felt like home. Me and my wife went for diving with Ainhoa and Pedro. They made the best moment of our life. We will never forget that moment. Really really thanks for the unforgettable memories. Great diving set up! All the staff are very knowledgeable, calm, professional and just really easy to get on with. Shop is very well organised with high quality hire equipment. Guides (Claudia and Marco) were very observant and always checking you were comfortable, also pointing out everything so you don’t miss anything. Pre and post dive briefing are very thorough. Pedro was very calming taking my girlfriend for her first dive. Thank you for your efforts and hope to see you again. Would highly recommend these guys.

Great team, great equipment, beautiful location. Communication was easy, all our questions were answered in preparation for the dive. We were a group of different levels of experience: try dive, refresher and certified dives and we were happy at all levels. View is great - and thats about the only good thing about this place.. - Food is awful - no flavour and overcooked. - Service is downright rude and amateuristic. We were hotel guests, so we have been here many times. They try to rush you, get annoyed very easily, never smile andsome mornings we were not allowed to sit outside on the balcony (even though there were plenty of empty tables). This level of food and service does NOT at all belong with a 4-star hotel. We payed a lot of money to stay at the hotel, and we sometimes did not even want to eat the breakfast here (which we payed for when booking the hotel) - thats how bad it was.. If you are thinking about eating here or booking at the hotel.. I would stay away!

This used to be our favourite restaurant when staying in Caniço, but our last experience was average, at best. The food selection at lunch time has become minimal, on the fish side, there is the fish of the day and 4 (!) octopus dishes. The tuna salad that I chose missed the announced anchovies and there was almost no sauce. The chicken in the chicken salad was very dry. We were the only guests, which is strange as it was always more or less full the years before. Maybe at dinner time it is better, but we decided to look for alternatives for the rest of our stay.

The view is spectacular and you should definitely book a time with that in mind (in darkness there is nothing to see). We really enjoyed our happy hour drinks at the bar and the staff are wonderful - polite, professional and attentive. The food was good but I would say nothing really great. I ordered fish of the day and it really lacked flavour - a sauce of some kind would have really helped. I had limpets for entre and they were very good - I recommend those. Portions were generous. The price was good - not a bargain but not overpriced either. If I had my time again I would have a drink in the bar but not eat at the restaurant. The food just needs more flavour - it was not disappointing exactly but it didn't match the splendour of the location and was so close to being very good that it's a bit of a shame.

Food and service were OK at best. The weakest meal I had in a week, but not terrible, just average. Service was slow and awkward, but got the food and drinks to the table. Staff just seemed irritated.... Too many other great options nearby to bother with this one.

Beautiful Atlantic coast location and views, stylish decor and you can watch the chef's at work if you're interested in how they perform their magic. We both had swordfish, fish of the day with sweet potatoes, broccoli, courgette and small tomatoes. The chefs are clearly skilled. The main courses were tasty and perfectly seasoned when they arrived and both looking like a work of art. Accompanied by a very pleasant glass of house red. Also Coca cola and mineral water. Our desserts were also beautiful to look at and eat. Stewed apples & nuts - cube shaped with vanilla ice cream and meringue and a chocolate and mango creation. Meal for two was €55. Waitress and waiters were prompt, helpful and kind. We will both be very happy to return there soon.

Madeira is a miracle, but for perfection you have to get here - to La Terrasa. This staff colored our days on the island with a miracle of flavors. I would like to thank Dino, who will always be in our hearts, for his warm welcome and many useful tips. Be sure to visit this restaurant and taste the most delicious dishes in a whole Madeira.

Amazing place to have traditional Madeiran food. Good, big portions, well seasoned and prepared. We had the Espada with banana (a must try!) and the Picanha. Both tasted perfectly and the service is extremely friendly. Can totally recommend it.

The food is excellent, tomahawk steak was huge (good for 2 people), prices are normal. The restaurant has a nice vibe to it, there’s great view from the windows. One minus was the waitress barely spoke English - but I’d say it was sufficient to order our meals, and despite that she was very engaging.

The indication that this was a hidden treasure was a bit to much. The food was ok, although not great and the waiters seemed a bit grumpy. Also there were not to many people inside when visiting end of August. The taste of the meat on the skewer was mediocre. The salad, side dishes and starter were good.

Simple but very tasty food. I ordered beef skewers (medium rare) and upon arrival I was asked if meat was cooked according to my taste; beef was delicious and absolutely perfect (that is not always the case). Service was also pretty good. Totally recommended

We hit the jackpot! The fresh (and I mean really fresh) tuna was on the menu. The tuna tartare was one of the best dishes I have eaten anywhere.... ever! Marco, the chef, is a master of his art! The main course steaks were also prepared perfectly, and the whole team provided exemplary service!

A pleasant restaurant with good service. The presentation of the dishes was original and the interior was interesting. I tried the black scabbardfish with banana, which was so good. It's a dish that's not always easy to get right, but in this restaurant, they did a great job! Definitely a strong recommendation.

We ate at Klenk’s Cafe for dinner. The service took more than an hour to bring our dinner. We ate risotto and the cheese “crackers” (that came with the risotto)made of parmagiano were awful, it was impossible to eat it. It had a burned flavour and the waitress was telling us that it is the normal flavour and the chef tasted it and said it’s normal and that: all the people that go to the restaurant “really like it” (we saw other people not eating it while we were there). She started talking in a rude way, while we were just letting her know what’s wrong with the dinner, she was arguing and didn’t want to hear our “comment”. We just wanted to let them know our opinion, for them to improve. In the end: I don’t recommend this restaurant at all, the waitress is VERY rude and the food bad (very very very salty too). They don’t want to hear any critics, just good comments.

The main courses were quite good, and there’s a convenient parking lot next to the restaurant. I found the entrée of lapas to be chewy and not thoroughly cleaned of sand. The restaurant is also more expensive than average around here.

Great restaurant with excellent tasting food! Amazing ocean view and very friendly staff. Nice harmony and relaxing vibe! We had the spaghetti carbonara and the salmon risotto. Both really tasty dishes. And we also got full so there was plenty of food. We also had the local bread for starters (Bolo de…?)

The evening started off very exciting with great home made beer and sausage. The orders were meat with a fillet and sirloin and a chicken cordon blue. The sirloin was tough and the waiter commented that it was fresh meat??? When the steak was sent to the kitchen to sample… the waiter commented that all thought it was amazing. So no steak and paid for it! Could buy a much better steak at Continente!! What a pity that waiters have so little client service skills and argue non-stop. Making it difficult to return…

We arrived and didn't have reservations so they sat us in a small room that had very bad wall paper and didn't match the rest of the restaurant. Kind of a 'back room'. That was ok except the room had a large table of 8 with yelling, misbehaving children and very loud adults. Bad luck I guess. That was ok as well because the food was going to be good, right? It was not. We had the sirloin and onions, asked for it medium well, it came rare... it was served like you would see in a cafeteria. The menu was a la carte so the sides were extra. Didn't make sense since each of us had 2 servings of meat on a plate - excessive but had to spend extra on fried potatoes (which were tasteless). Oh, the onions were not cooked well either. The food was not very good. The plating was awful. The atmosphere was terrible. The price was not great. The service was just OK. We wouldn't eat here again.

If we’re talking about dishes - it’s really delicious big portions, very tasty steak, pastas, good atmosphere inside, only 1 minus is long waiting time about 40-50 minutes to cook this dishes.

We try to have a good stay there. The service at the beginning was ok, but the communication during the whole time was reserved. We ordered some food for starter and main corse to share. The starter (bread) was good. The main dish (ravioli with truffle) was raw. We gave it back in to the kitchen. It was really uncommon for us that nobody gave a feedback out of the kitchen. They grabbed the rest of the food after saying hello (new waiter), without asking anything.

We had a really good dinner here! The drinks and food were brought quickly and the service was extremely friendly.
 In addition the food was very well portioned and really delicious! The interior was a bit random sometimes, with roman and/or greek decoration, but other than that nothing to complain about!

Went there for dinner. Portions are huge and very tasty. Compared to other restaurants in the area you need to order sides separately but that’s all right. Staff is friendly and the service is pretty fast! All in all recommendable.

This was the tastiest food we've had all week on the whole island. The steak was mind-blowing, and the service was great. However, the rooms are lacking air conditioning, so sitting inside is a torture. We asked for a place outside, but the view there was far from perfect, as we had to sit behind the corner.

Should not advertise as a cafe. It is a restaurant. Walked for an hour with my 83 year old father to get there. Refused us for not being dressed for a restaurant. Wouldn’t even let us sit outside for a cold drink. There was NOBODY in. Will never return. We were advised to go there.

I went to Vista d’Antonio with my girlfriend on a Friday night with great expectations because of high reviews in Google. There were 3 empty tables and we were only allowed to sit at the worst one. We had to wait for the menus more than 10 minutes. The waiters and the waitresses had time to play with another guest’s children but not bring us the menus. At first, they brought only 1 menu and placed it in front of me in a way that insulted my girlfriend. Even I felt that they were disrespectful to women. When we asked for another one the waiter disappeared. After a while another waitress came with 2 menus. The whole operation looked very disorganised. We didn’t feel welcomed and left without ordering anything despite being hungry hungry as a bear.

I ate here twice while staying in the area on holiday. The service (I'm assuming the owner and his wife?) was amazing and so personal ~ single American woman, traveling solo made to feel so welcome, not to mention concerned when I didn't finish all of my dinner! I went back last night after a sunset tour only to be told the kitchen had closed 15 minutes prior. I offered to settle for a glass of wine, but after sensing my disappointment, the owner came back with a menu and asked what I wanted in true Portuguese hospitality. I highly recommend this restaurant ~ great food, service, open air outside seating...will definitely return on my next visit in the fall!

Lovely restaurant with great food and an excellent choice of wine. Antonio and his staff made great effort to make us happy. We‘ve spent two evenings there. Everything was fresh and well prepared…as many mentioned it before: don’t miss out on the famous picana! On certain days you might need a reservation, food is served from 8 pm. If you enjoy walking…go for it…might be a bit challenging up the hills. Good thing for your health, you will earn the calories on your way up for a delicious dinner. Antonio and his staff will help you to find a cab back to town after. Also for german tourists, Antonio speaks german very well. Thank you for the great experience.

If you’re looking for a meat restaurant, you should definitely go there. Staff very friendly and large wine menu with good recommendations. The meat is cooked by the chief in a wooden fire in the middle of the restaurant. Very tasty and absolutely tender ! I can definitely recommend this place.

A bit off the beaten track but a great place for steak. We had the pichana for 2 and it was amazing. We had a side of chips and salad to share as well, I've no idea what they did to the chips but they're possibly the best chips I've ever tried! One tip: in the evenings they seat people from 7:30pm and start cooking at 8pm.

One word? : amazing!! What a good restaurant. Outside it’s quite simple. Inside is a transform. Owner showed me his wine-humidor. What a collection. He showed me also his wine from 1878. Man….how rare is that. The food was great. Tender with taste. I will come back!!! The owner is an enthusiastic. Not only with his food, but more about his wine. And that’s noticeable. He picks and nothing to say about it. A restaurant you could walk past it. Don’t!!! Go in, order the meat and ask for a wine fitting the meal. You won’t get disappointed.

Wonderful place to have meat and a nice oven where you can see your meal being prepared. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Good selection of wines and is not expensive. Highly recommended.

We ate here in our first night on Madeira and it was a wonderful way to begin our trip. We enjoyed local fish and beef dishes and wine. The staff was great and great ambiance as well. Absolutely worth a trip if you’re in Canico!

The food is superb and is reasonably priced. The service is excellent, and The Central is the perfect, people friendly joy to eat in. The Espada fillet with the banana and passion fruit was a delicious delight, and my wife enjoyed a very tasty prawn and beef skewer. Cozy little restaurant not to far from Funchal. The food is fresh and very tasty. Apart from the "normal" dishes that you'd expect in an restaurant like this, they are also selling regional beef dishes and seafood - wonderful. Lastly I want to mention the waiters and waitresses there, I have never experienced a service team which was so professionnal while also maintaining such a nice charming atmosphere when interacting with the guests. 10/10

Had a variety of dishes here over 3 evenings, all were excellent but the peppered steak was top of the pile, best we have had and we have had a fair few! Everything about this restaurant is excellent food, drinks, the place itself has a lovely feeling and let us not forget the staff from the chef to all the waiting staff 'thank you so very much' for a fantastic 3 visits.

Delicious food, fast service and reasonable prices. The scabbard fish was best I have had in Madeira. They made it gluten-free. The waiter spoke perfect english. Thank you! Highly recommend!

Delicious food and great service. I had the scabbard fish with banana and passion fruit that was recommended by the waiter, it was the best I had during my stay in Madeira. My friends had Espetada and tuna steak and were raving about it. Lots of food and sides.

I loved my prawn and squid skewer - the squid was so soft, it was all very well seasoned and came with delicious sides! My husband enjoyed his beef skewer too, it was equally generous and tasty. The service was very nice too so we would definitely recommend this place.

Caniço is the cosy village that's home to this excellent restaurant. We had fish in various ways and all we can say is: excellent!

We ate dinner in the A Lareira, Central and La Terraça restaurants near each other. The best food was in Central. Delicious!
