Restaurante Caravela is a highly recommended dining spot with friendly and English-speaking staff. The food is well-prepared, and the shrimp appetizer and scabbard fish are particularly noteworthy. The restaurant offers generous portions, outdoor seating with scenic views, and a small temperature-controlled wine cellar featuring delicious options from the Douro region in Portugal. Dishes like grilled octopus and traditional fish come with ample sides like boiled potatoes, steamed vegetables, and rice.
After hitting the winery up the hill in São Vicente, we decided to come here on recommendation from our wine tasting leader. We ordered shrimp as an appetizer which was cooked perfectly and the sauce was incredible. My husband got the scabbard fish which was super tender, juicy, and seasoned well, and I got the fish (can't remember the type) with banana on top which was an absolute DISH. The combination of flavors, sweets and savory, was just so good. We also had this beautiful buttercream nut cake for dessert which my husband said was the best dessert he's had. Highly recommend this gem.

We stopped at this restaurant for lunch during the guided tour and the food was delicious. A very generous portion and we all struggled to finish the entire dish. There are outdoor sitting with a great view of the ocean, mountains and waterfall. High recommended. They have a small temperature controlled cellar keeping all their red 🍷 bottles and we shared a delicious bottle of red from the Douro region in Portugal.

We were recommended by a local person to visit this restaurant if we liked seafood. After seeing all reviews as well our expectations were high.We drove from Funchal to get here just to try them out. We got very disappointed. First, the restaurant was empty. After being seated, still took more then 10 min to be asked what we wanted to drink and handed a menu. After making a choice we were told twice that our choice was not available. Our third choice however was ‘disappointing’. The fish was not really worth the trip and the octopus was returned because it was so stiff and un chewable. Only the schrimp starter was OK. Service was also bad because we were not asked once if we needed anything. So we were not impressed and wonder what went wrong with our visit if this restaurant has so many good reviews.
Carlos Flores — Google review
You get food for days at this place, to say that the portions were huge is almost an understatement. I ordered the octopus which looked real nice and had a nice texture, although it didn't taste too much. The sides were a bit boring as well. All in all it was good, but not great.
Max Soneb?ck — Google review
We had fish soup and octopus. Soup made of some leftovers. Small pieces of fish, without spices.....nearly warm. Octopus fried properly but there was no taste. Place has atmosphere of the canteen . Maybe meat from the oven would be better.
Justyna Kucharska — Google review
Very tasty food with good service, and reasonable price. We take steak with mushroom and bacon was on high. 2 main dishes 1 bear and glass of wine 47€

This place was much better than expected. We ordered octopus and traditional fish. Portions were big and came with sides of boiled potatoes, steamed vegetables and rice.

I rate 3,5 stars - restaurant director located next to the beach. If you got a place upstairs you have a pretty nice view at the sea. Sitting downstairs is also okay even if you are sitting right next to a street. They offer starters, meat & fish dishes. We had vegetable soup, garlic bread and cod (bacalhau) - which was served with vegetables and potatoes. Unfortunately I found a hair inside the dish. But nevertheless it tasted good and the portion was huge. Service was friendly :)
Ina Rittershofer — Google review
The food was delicious and came quickly. It was our 2nd choice to eat in São Vicente and weren't disappointed. Staff is very friendly.
Lisa Correia — Google review
Well I presume this is a typical Portuguese restaurant - everything is prepared "roughly". I took the espada with bananas, where the fish was super oily, and even though the sides (veggies and potatoes) were cooked, they were not seasoned at all, and chopped roughly. Portions are big so you are definitely getting full, but everything is lacking taste and flavour. Server was alright but seemed burned out - he could not recommend a dish, and was not really paying attention. Overall the positive aspect was that we got full, but I would not return here.

Delicious! We had the limpets as a starter and octopus and tuna as mains, it was plenty of food but everything was amazing! Recommend you stop and eat here.
cristina oana — Google review
💯 recommended. The boy who served our table is friendly and can speak English very well. I understand someone says it tastesless but I prefer it this way. Think about someone an allergy so the food shouldn't put too much taste or something too much it in. You can add some pepper or salt if you want more taste. Fish soup starter is smell of mackerel in it if you don't like strong smell do not recommend. Grill octopus is great cooked, soft, and juicy. I do recommend 👍. It comes with rice , boiled potatoes, and boiled vegetables.

We went there on Sunday so there was a lot of traffic, but we waited only a few minutes for the table. The owner (I think) was very friendly and apologetic for the wait. My scabbard fish with banana was sublime! One of the best fish I've ever had (as sides included in the dish were a plate of rice and a plate of steamed vegetables). My husband's espetada wasn't very good (the meat was hard to chew), as sides he received fries and a salad. The portions are HUGE. Our waiter wasn't very friendly, but the view from the terrace was beautiful. Here's the only foto I took, unfortunately my camera focused on the building in the background. But I highly recommend the scabbard fillet with banana!
M Kuliś — Google review
Very nice restaurant. They cook well and tasty. Sides are huge, but not as good as mains. They should work on improving quality of side dishes rather than just go for quantity. Anyway, overall it was a good choice for us. We ordered Grilled Espada, Beef and Chicken skewers as well as Garoto and Poncha. Garlic bread as a starter was delicious.
Przemyslaw K. — Google review
Nice location for traditional food The restaurant was recommended by our tour guide. It is located on the ocean coast and they have traditional Portuguese dishes. We ordered espetada and fillet espada banana. The fish was tasty and fresh, but the beef was fibrous and hard. The service was fast, the portions are big and the prices are friendly.
Diana D — Google review
Be warned... Portion sizes are HUGE. Food was really nice, we had a massive salad and octopus main to share that came with rice, potatoes and vegetables. Everything was fresh and tasty. Grab a balcony view if you can looking over the pebble bay and the waves. Unfortunately didn't take many pictures but the fold was great and like I said, portions are big! Service super friendly as well.

Place to go if you’re searching for typical Madeiran food. We chose Lapas, which were delicious and two portions of different fish. Bacalhau wasn’t that good, but the black scabbard fish with banana was amazing.

I had a very well prepared grilled octopus. Excellent. Garlic bread served as apitizer is also good.

Taberna de São Vicente, a hidden gem of a restaurant with an inconspicuous exterior, offers a superb dining experience. Nestled in an underrated location, this establishment surpassed expectations by serving the finest cuisine during the entire trip to Madeira. The chef, who happens to be the owner's spouse, exudes warmth and suggested their most exceptional dishes. The octopus drenched in tomato sauce proved to be exceptional while the scallops were slightly overdone.
Very good and delicious food! Authentic, local place! I can highly recommend!
Mirko Dallek — Google review
Octopus in tomato sauce was outstanding, scallops were a bit overcooked, tuna steak covered with garlic is good but not perfect (to my taste).
Vsevolod Ryabykh — Google review
Underrated restaurant the location looks like it's a sneak bar or so but if you go in the inside you see the real facade. The food was the best I eat on my entire trip on Madeira. The cook aka. the wife of the owner is super friendly she recommended us the best food they had😋
julikiller98 — Google review
Don’t be put off by the modest exterior. The food was super tasty especially the steak skewers. Speedy service and a 5 minute drive from the São Vincente Caves.

The food was absolutely amazing, the prawns especially!! The view outside the restaurant was spectacular, I cannot wait to come back to this island!

Excellent restaurant. Pure portuguese gastronomy and friendly personnel.

I'm sorry to say that the price quality ratio is not at all in favour of this restaurant. Had here the worst fries I encountered in two weeks in Madeira (usually they are natural fries freshly cut, but not here), the fish was OK-ish, but by far not as good as our favourite restaurant in Sao Vicente (which was closed on Wednesday, so we decided to give this place a try) and the espetada was OK, but have eaten better. Overall, not an experience I would repeat. The service was kind, but slow.

Restaurante Lavrador São Vicente is a family-run restaurant with a stunning mountain view, making it an ideal choice for those staying at nearby accommodations like Estalagem do Vale, Solar da Bica, or Casa da Piedade. The restaurant offers well-presented and delicious food, including the option to cook your own beef and tuna steaks on a hot stone. Visitors can also indulge in homemade bolo de mel for dessert.
Fantastic restaurant, great quality food and wine, with generous portions, at very good prices, overlooking incredible scenery. Well worth a visit, we will be coming again! Staff are very friendly and respectful, speak English very well, and will gladly answer questions if you do not understand anything on the menu. Highly recommend having the tuna steak and the Regional (beef) skewer (rare), although it uses a lot of garlic (which is delicious!). The cheese appetiser is excellent for sharing between 2. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert, although I'm sure it would be equally as delicious
Peter Jenkins — Google review
Incredible views. The service, firstly, was amazing. All of the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The food was fantastic, the tuna steak and tuna salad were very fresh and tasty. Portion sizes are HUGE. We really enjoyed our time. A lot of tourists, but the value for money was great. Would love to visit again

If I would have left this review on the first night we ate here, it would have been a 10000/5. The TUNA ALONE MADE ME LIVE AGAIN. Their house wines were great and the regional meat skewer is their ~most famous~ dish. However, the second night we stopped by, it was the worst service we've ever experienced in our lives (dramatic, I know). From the start we could tell our waitress was not listening to us and paying attention to just about everything else in the restaurant except for us. Our meals were 10/10 amazing with me getting the chicken skewer, which has a curry spice to it, and my husband getting the cod. From finishing our meal to getting anyone to pay attention to us to get the bill, it took over 50 minutes. But let me say it one more time for the people in the back... GET THE TUNA.

Delicious food, brilliant stuff and breathtaking view from terrace. Extra nice stuff familiar stuff, we did not wait long time for food and I forgot there bag, when we return restaurant was closed but the owner waiting us with bag. Brilliant. We must return sometime. Thanks

Food was amazing. Definitely the best we had in Madeira. The waitress was exceptional as well. Tuna steak was impressively served on the stone. Fish of the day (sea bass) was fresh, tender and very juicy. Totally recommended!

What a view! On top of that the food is great and service is very friendly. We tried here (on different days) lapas, fish soup, scabbard fish, sandwich, chicken skewers and cheesecake. Everything was well cooked and presented with extra care. White sangria here was the best I tried.

Great little gem in Madeira. Very nice and competent service, great food, and a solid wine selection. We loved our whole roasted fish with veggies, the best in a long while. Stunning views if you come before sunset.
Stefan Schnabl — Google review
Loved this restaurant! I recommend booking to secure a table. The quality of the meat was the best we had on this side of the island and we loved that they stocked the delicious local Quinta do Barbusano wine (recommend the rosé). The waitstaff were stressed as it was a busy service, but otherwise a good experience. Thank you from Australia
Erica Johnson — Google review
What can we say. The view is to die for, the food is definitely a step up from most we've experienced and the waitress was very friendly and made our experience very pleasant. T Bone steak is delicious, portions very generous. The chicken comes out on a giant skewer and is seasoned to perfection. Would recommend for a lovely romantic meal. The place is a real treat, and the wife and I would highly recommend adding this place to your places to eat when in Sao Vicente.
Keith Baker-Biggs — Google review
Stunning view and excellent food. We had fish of the day and meat skewer, each comes with 2 sides of your choice. Both dishes were so flavorful and tasty! And on top of that, the service is very good and friendly. We loved this restaurant!

I’m sitting here after finishing a beautiful dinner with family. The food was exquisitely prepared down to the minute details. The food was cooked to perfection and they catered for all of our needs. I required a meal off menu and they somehow magically created it and was exactly what I wanted. Portions were extremely generous and prices were very reasonable. This is fine dining with an incredible view of St Vincent valley. Service was impeccable and friendly. One of my favourites of Maderia now.

Quebramar rotating restaurant in Sao Vicente offers stunning sea views and is known for serving delicious traditional dishes like Caldo da Romaria, a hearty beef and potato broth. The upper floor of the restaurant slowly rotates to provide panoramic views of the North coast, while the ground floor offers non-rotating tables. The restaurant's location provides a gorgeous view of the shore, and it has both regular and luxurious dining options.
Sin duda, un lugar que recomendaría para disfrutar de una comida inolvidable. El personal fue extremadamente amable y atento. Además, las vistas panorámicas desde el restaurante eran simplemente espectaculares. (Translated by Google) Without a doubt, a place that I would recommend to enjoy an unforgettable meal. While passing through the area, we decided to stop for a quick bite. Unfortunately, the waiting time for simple burger and fish plates was excessively long, and the service was lacking. Nonetheless, the great view and atmosphere added a positive touch to the experience.
Richard Gomperts — Google review
With a very beautiful view of the sea, you are in the right place here. Price and quality match well. I did miss a friendly smile, a hint for the staff :) For lunch we had local beef on a skewer and a beef steak.
F.M — Google review
Lovely view which kind of made the visit worth it. However, I’m a vegetarian and there were no dishes for me on the menu. I decided to try a vegetable soup and french fries on the side. The french fries were as expected, but the soup was not to my liking. Would not recommend for a vegetarian.
Kimberly — Google review
First of all, the view is absolutely stunning and deserves a star in its own right. The portions are also very generous. I ordered scabbard with shrimps and it was good, not great but good. Most of the flavour was in the onions though, the fish itself didn't taste too much. The sides were a bit boring, though. All in all, if you go here you get alright food with a fantastic view.
Max Soneb?ck — Google review
Five stars for stunning views and sounds from the ocean. Pretty quite on a Sunday morning and we got a table right on the edge of the ocean. Nothing wrong with coffee, service or facilities either.
Timo Honkanen — Google review
Awesome place with affordable food tasted yummy would recommend , the service could be a-bit more friendlier, but its worth it just for listening to the sea waves bashing onto the shores

Stopped off for lunch here and was very pleased with our food, Special burger was great for the price (approx 4 Euros), espresso great. Sea view a great added bonus when sat outside
C J — Google review
In my experience, the good thing about the place is unfortunately only the view. We were waiting for our food for quite some time even though the place wasn't busy. The fish we ordered was burned, and in pasta with vegetables, there was a full piece of garlic peel 🤷‍♀️ also a desert called coconut pie wasn’t a pie but more of a sweet omelette. The staff was friendly and polite, but the food just didn't worse the price. Recommend just having a cup of tea or coffee to enjoy the view.
Darya Darya — Google review
It seemed strangely empty but thats probably because the restaurant is huge. They were also closing at 630 so we were eating our early dinner as last guests. The food was good, the server nice. View is great

Ate dinner here 3 times, excellent service from nice waiter - large portions of every meal (compared to any other restaurant on the island), best value in Madeira - loved the quality of each tasty meal.
Alex J. Smal — Google review
We arrived to the restaurant a bit late and were the only guests there. The waitress was very nice and professional. We ordered meat, tuna , soup and some limpets (lapas). The portions were big and tasty. This restaurant deserves more than 4 stars for sure. I’d go there again for sure when I come back to Madeira. Thank you!

From a regular restaurant on the ground floor to a luxurious one on the top, this place has more to offer than what meets the eyes! Absolutely gorgeous situation with parking and great ocean view. I was served some if the best french fries that I've had on the island but amazingly with my mushroom omelette. A practice which I find not very tasteful but they were great. Very professional, polite and we'll dressed personnel. I'll be definitely back for the fish!

Restaurant
The Restaurante Pub Ferro Velho in Madeira offers surprisingly delicious food and a great Sangria. The menu includes tasty options such as Steak and Eggs and Chicken Piri-Piri, all at reasonable prices. While the place isn't extravagant, it excels in preparing basic dishes exceptionally well. The service is nice, but it's worth noting that the restaurant only accepts cash which may catch some guests off guard.
Feels like home. Excellent quality over price. Highly recommended.
Enrico Buscaroli — Google review
Surprisingly good! One of the best Sangrias we had on all of Madeira (always a good sign when there are strawberries inside!). Everything that was served was very delicious. Steak and Eggs, Chicken Piri-Piri, I can basically recommend everything that they have. There's nothing extravagant here. Just basic stuff but really, really well prepared and tasty, at very reasonable prices. One negative though: Place is cash only, and I wasn't prepared for this as this was nowhere indicated.
Thomas Kupka — Google review
You need to try Espada (yes Fish with banana) and chocolate cake (heaven in mouth).
Maciej Frankowiak — Google review
It's a lovely place, good and hearty food and nice service. Giving it four stars because my order was messed up a bit, as i ordered just tomato soup but i got tomato soup with egg (both were on the menu). But everything else was really nice, and the soup was still very good.

Basilio, the owner of this wonderful restaurant, took amazing care of me and my pregnant belly. I was only craving chicken soups and he made them every single day during our visit! Who does that? I felt so cared for. We will definitely come back once our baby is born. ☺️
Silvia Miranda Filak — Google review
Great food, great drinks. The owner was so nice and great atmosphere! Our group of 4 each ordered a steak and drinks each and dessert and ending paying less than €90. They also only accept cash.
Michaelene Carranza — Google review
Unfortunately a tourist scam Not very welcoming and waitress was very unhappy with us not wanting to eat. Consequentlty when only ordering drinks she definitely overcharged us. No prices on the menu and for a can or coke and a small beer we paid 6,50 € without an invoice given. 100% a scam that goes right into her own pocket. Food on other tables looked very small compared to the price asked. Definitely not worth going here
Melanie Ulrich — Google review
I stopped off here quite late and starving a few evenings ago after finishing some hikes. The service was awesome and the food was delicious, and I got to enjoy my food outdoors. The restaurant seems to be open late, so if you’re looking for an option later in the evening give this place a try.
Alvaro Sanchez — Google review
Unfortunately but cannot recommend especially because it was more pricey than other restaurants. Espada con banan was ok (though we had much better on the island) but the cod fish was partially raw and really bland. Only poncha and beer was ok Our worst dining experience on Madeira. There are much better places in Sao Vicente.
Michał Maj — Google review
Quite good food but also expensive. Nice staff and restaurant overall, and the sangria was good!

Delicious Espada com Bananas and a little bit cheaper than in other restaurants. Very good sweet Madeira vine. Quick service. The only minus is a lot of smoking people, however it seems to be tipical here.
