Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools are popular attractions on Madeira's northern coast, with convenient steps and changing rooms for adults and children. The pools are set into the volcanic rock, giving children a unique swimming experience. There is also a beach lounger service and restaurant nearby.
Looks amazing, unfortunatelly it wasn't that warm to swim in. There are paid and free one. The one for free looks more naturally, but the showers and changing rooms were closed due to COVID-19.

We stopped by during our guided tour with the private guide. I took a stroll around the pool area and it was a sunny warm day so there were a fair amount of people enjoying a swim in the natural pool. The cafeteria has an outdoor sitting area for a quick coffee, drinks or coffee. Kids friendly place, and there are loads of families around. Great atmosphere and view for photos.
Carol — Google review
Very cool natural pool - literally! Make sure you bring everything from the car you need for a day here because you can’t re-enter with your ticket. The on-site restaurant is good for a little lunch and to get some beers.

Porto Moniz Beach in Madeira is an exceptional destination for a day of leisure with loved ones. The natural pool, a harmonious union of nature's creation and human ingenuity, provides a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for all. Adjacent to the pool, we were delighted to find a vibrant market offering an array of delightful drinks and delectable cuisine. The flavorsome food options and refreshing beverages added to the overall charm of the experience. Moreover, the presence of a nearby park enhanced the family-friendly atmosphere, offering additional recreational opportunities for everyone to relish. To our pleasant surprise, today's visit brought us the joy of savoring a delectable assortment of freshly grilled food, which further heightened our enjoyment. The abundance of entertainment and drinks in the vicinity ensured a lively and delightful time for all. Overall, Porto Moniz Beach stands out as an exceptional destination, where natural beauty blends seamlessly with human creativity, making it an ideal spot for a truly memorable day with family and friends. We highly recommend this picturesque location for an enriching and joyful experience on the beautiful island of Madeira.

Amazing day activity, 4€ for all day entry. Depending on the weather, different parts of the pools close (f.e. when we visited the whole complex was shut down at 16.00 due to large waves). Pools are connected so you can even get a decent swim in refreshing ocean water. There are changing rooms and no sunbeds.
Anna F. — Google review
The place was amazing. I used my decathlon snorkelling mask to see some beautiful fishes. The water was very cold but ok once you are in. Note that the area to get in is very slippery and we saw many people falling. Please take care and enter with caution.
AMIT ARKAD — Google review
Unique and cool place to go for swimming. And for just €1.50. Not very crowded but maybe depends on the day you visit. Some lifeguards controlling crowds. Some parts were closed probably because of waves. I believe that during calm weather everything is open. Also there is lockers but I think they are available for and extra charge. Big restaurant too, with a lot of seating.
Lina Grakauskait? — Google review
Three euros for an entire day of nice (cold) water. So refreshing and a nice view too. A bit too windy for our taste, but well worth it. Can be busy at times. There is however a lot of space.
Alex Schepers — Google review
The Porto Moniz natural pools are one of the major attractions as well as outdoor activity in Madeira. The pools are well maintained and clean. There is natural beauty surrounding these pools. Many good restaurants and cafe are in the area. It is worth spending few hours at the place on a sunny day.
Praveen Mehrotra — Google review
A MUST-See, must DO on your trip to Madeira, even though it's on the other side of the island from Funchal. Although make sure you go on a weekday, when it’s not crowded. There are all different kinds of natural pools with different depths. My favorite was the diving board off the east end into the ocean. Definitely bring food and water, as available concessions are limited.
Jerald Bell — Google review
Really cool place. The opportunity to essentially have a natural wave pool is really fun and the setting is beautiful. There is a decent bar/cafe on site and it easily accessible. Would recommend visiting if you are in the area
Sam Monson — Google review
Must do experience on Madeira Island, if you visit the western part of the island. Its better to bring some food and drinks, as you are not allowed to re-enter. There's a bar over there, but it gets crowded easily.

The natural swimming pools of Porto Moniz are considered the district's landmark and are one of the main attractions on the north coast of Madeira. This attraction is attracting an increasing number of visitors due to its particular beauty and the comfort that its infrastructures offer. The natural shapes of the basins of volcanic origin - formed over thousands of years by the cooling of lava - allow the constant entry of sea water. The water has a quality that is considered excellent due to its constant renewal. The sun terrace has an area of 3,210 m² and the swimming area is 3,800 m², with a depth of about two meters, making the natural swimming pools of Porto Moniz the ideal place for the whole family. The facility has a children's pool, playground, changing rooms, bar, first aid post, parking lot and disabled access. Sun loungers and parasols can be rented so that you can comfortably enjoy the tranquility that this special bathing complex offers. In addition, the surrounding landscape with its panoramic views of the sea coast and its cliffs will not leave anyone indifferent.
Karin S. — Google review
Porto Moniz has two lots of swimming 'pools'. The one to pay which is almost man made and the second more natural with pools among the natural rock formation. They were leaning the former so it was closed but we were thrilled that the natural one was free of charge. Don't know if this is always, we were there end December. The sea was rough a d a couple of people were thrown off the legde so respect the ocean and keep a look out for big waves. The area itself is beautiful too and warrants the long bus ride from Funchal!!
Corinna Durocher — Google review
Neat swimming area on the island of Madeira. There are two natural swimming pools about 500 yards apart. Both have restaurants and bars that overlook them. Absolutely gorgeous and unusual setting. This area is almost an hour away from the cruise terminal, if you are traveling by ship. I didn’t try the water because it was February, windy, and the Atlantic is already cool. This was my favorite area on the Portuguese island.
Brad Warren — Google review
Beautiful pool, very well organized, with lots of space to sit and very easy access to the water. The volcanic scenery is unique. The Atlantic Ocean waves often break and spill into the northern edged of the pool, which is quite a thrill. There are very well organized showers, change rooms and restrooms. There are also quite a bit restaurants around. But when we were there the water was quite cold.
Alon Melamed — Google review
Great public natural swimming. 3€ is entrance fee. There are everything you need in pools. Good stuff. They are rocks where crabs are living.
Marek Hajdučák — Google review
Was rather a wet day when I visited, so it wasn’t too busy and had a very enjoyable swim around the rock pools. Enjoyed seeing the fish. Just be aware of that to get a locker will cost you €5 in addition to the entrance fee. Very basic changing rooms and toilets. Cold showers. But well worth a visit, especially when the waves are high and crashing over into the pools
Jeannette Warr — Google review
It's one of the coolest places I have ever been! If you are visiting Porto Moniz, you have to go here! Some of it was closed off due to weather, but we had more than enough area to explore. I would recommend going in the early morning if you want less crowding as it gets busier as the day goes on!
Pat Speight — Google review
The natural swimming pool is a must try experience if you're in Porto Moniz! The entrance fee is 3€ for adults, most people just leave their belongings next to the natural rocks or poolside (at your own risk). Wonderful experience with the waves crashing in
Kai L — Google review
This is definitely a must see!!! Even if it lays on the north part of the island, the road is very good and it just takes around 40 min to drive there, and it’s totally worth the road trip! There is a couple of supermarkets in the village, but also along the road, in case you want to save some money and have a picnic by the water. Oh! And the entrance is free!!
Alberto Hylander — Google review
It’s a great experience there are free pools towards the right and we don’t need to pay it natural infinity pool. It’s a mesmerising scenic view of the ocean as we lie and see it from the natural swimming pool. Once lifetime opportunity to experience it. Paid parking everywhere along the pool and Laura restaurants, where we can have dinner and snacks or a drink after our swim.
ajith lewis — Google review
Very quiet when I arrived at 10am. Got busy around 1pm, even for February. The water was cold although I still went for a swim. Everything was very clean. Although there were only 3 Women's toilets there were plenty of changing cubicles and lockers . No sun loungers at wintertime so bring something to sit on. Cafe was shut.
melanie horridge — Google review
The pool is beautiful, the water is very refreshing (but better move while in there, the weather is amazing even end of November but the water feels chilly until you get used to it). Best spent 3 EUR of the day, shower, changing room, toilet all included, a most swim experience.

Unfortunately the weather was bad. It was cold and windy. We didn’t stay there for very long. But i think when the weather is warm and sunny, i think you can have a nice swim there.

Beautiful place !! ❤️ A natural pool like the ones of Porto Moniz have plenty of space to chill and lounge. You can park your car for free in Porto Moniz, next to the pools. Aquarium
Zoos & Aquariums
Aquário da Madeira is a small aquarium located within the historic Forte de Sao Joao Baptista de Porto Moniz, built from local basalt rocks. It features various fish tanks, including one for larger fishes and highlights sharks as its main attraction. While some visitors find it relatively small and express concerns about the well-being of the fish, others see it as a nice place to spend 15-30 minutes or bring kids for an educational visit.
Nice little Aquarium. They have several small open fish tanks and one big one for the larger fishes. For 7 euros you can take your time to focus on the details of the fish tanks and its inhabitants. Close to the natural swimming pools at the ocean. Bring your towels and a swimsuit

Olga Lemaniak — Google review
Quite nice place, can't complain. It's small, doesn't take much time. The bad thing is that some fish have too small aquariums for them and they clearly need more room to be happy:( But it was cool, i saw sharks and a ray and many other fish.
Annike Nurme (Lilleke rohus) — Google review
Was well worth the 7 euros. Multiple small tanks with many different species, and a big tank you can see from different sides. Even our 5 month old loved it.
Elspeth de Jong — Google review
Nice place but not really worth its price - you`re not going to spend more than 30 min there. A bit creepy was the fact that there were dried crabs and other sea animals very near the living creatures
Lina — Google review
Worst place for a fish to be, animals shouldn't be blocked in such a tiny space, felt terrible to whiteness this. Don't recommend it at all !
matthias sertori — Google review
After my visit, I felt extremely sad for the fish imprisoned inside too small tanks for their size. And honestly i blame myself for supporting them to continue torturing poor animals by paying 7 € for entrance. It's even sadder to see them trapped in such tiny tanks just next to a great ocean.
Seldi — Google review
Small Aquarium on Madeira for 15-30 min watching, but very good exuse to take your kids to Porto Moniz - a small town with charming landscapes 50 km from Funchal. Tickets 7 EUR adult, 4 EUR kids above 6. PORTO MONIZ is a must during your stay on Madeira. We spent very pleasent day. 1 hour Journey from Funchal is full of surprising opportunities for great picture.
Sebastian Lasinski — Google review
Very small place. I don't think it's worth the price and definetely not worth the ride from other parts of the island. Overall it is nicely done, but after 15 min it starts to get a bit boring.
Marian Baca — Google review
Small aquarium, some nice specimens, but you're done in 10 mins. They have a small seating area in front of a very large glass window where you can see all the fishes, small and big, just wandering around, which was nice. 8 EUR entrance is a bit expensive for what you can do here.
Adrian Gut — Google review
I recently visited the aquarium and was quite disappointed by the experience. Firstly, the size of the venue was surprisingly small; even when taking my time, I was able to complete the entire walkthrough in a mere 15 minutes. However, my primary concern was the well-being of the fish. It was disheartening to see several of them confined to tanks that seemed too small for their size. A bit sad to see
Yanilla — Google review
A nice way to pass some time. A little bit pricey at €7 for something that you could quite easily only spend 15 minutes in - if you weren't to pore over each exhibition. The exhibitions were generally in good condition however some of the Grey Mullet had far exceeded their tank size and deserved a larger environment.
Edward Bignell — Google review
An enjoyable afternoon spent watching the variety of sea creatures including a class of scuba divers practicing their skills. Having seen behind the scenes, I was impressed by the amount of work that is undertaken to ensure the fish are kept under optimum conditions.
Nick M — Google review
This aquarium is simply a joke. It's very small, and in no more than 20 minutes (and I'm being indulgent) you're done seeing everything. But that's not the biggest problem, it's that the species of fish and other life in this aquarium are absolutely mundane, commonplace things I've seen in other, much larger and better laid out places. And I wouldn't have given this aquarium a low grade if they hadn't charged me 7 euros for a ticket (June 2023). When you ask visitors for money, then the visitors have certain demands too.
Cristian “Mumu” Matei — Google review
To avoid... This aquarium is really too expensive for what you can see: 2 mini sharks and few basic fishes. Really disappointing for the price. No explanations and some of the tanks looked dirty and the animals/ fishes not in good health. Took us about 15 minutes to visit as there is nothing there.
Fanny AZNAR — Google review
Nice little aquarium with many kind of fish and other invertebrate sea animals, like starfish, octopus, crabs, lobsters, etc. There is discount for children and seniors. Recommanded for all who like underwater sea life, except those who expect a multi-storey hyper modern aquarium for this price...
thomymiskolc — Google review
The Children loved the Aquarium. It might be very small in route, but the kids loved it. For the little fair amount as entrance they enjoyed a lot and we got quite a few cool pictures.
Mohammed Ibraheem — Google review
7-10 minute experience for a total of 7 euros. 1 tank displayed with minimal ammount of species. I do not understand the pricing as I've been to several other aquariums for 25% to double the price where the visit is ten times longer and much more well equipped and produced. Only visit if you have extra cash to throw out and you've ran out of things to do at Porto Moniz, which I would say is far fetched. Save the money for some actual natural and non-captive fish watching like having scuba diving or go dolphin/whale watching on a boat.

The View of Porto Moniz offers breathtaking panoramic views of the town, coastline, and natural seawater pools. One of the best vantage points is from Miradouro da Santa, accessible via the old road south from Porto Moniz. The route may be challenging with its switch back roads, but the stunning view makes it worth the effort. Visitors can enjoy this incredible place with family, friends or as a couple and marvel at the fantastic scenery from atop the town and swimming pools.

Sea View Restaurante is a hidden gem located in Porto Moniz, near the stunning natural pools of Madeira. The restaurant offers a unique take on local seafood, with dishes like fish soup and grilled tuna accompanied by an array of interesting vegetables. While the staff's attentiveness and service pace may fall short at times, the exceptional quality of food and the mesmerizing ocean view make it a serene oceanfront haven worth visiting.
Surprisingly good restaurant among so many bad ones! The food is relatively simple like burgers, shrimps, dumpling and sushi but tastes excellent, and is well served by kind locals. We really enjoyed eating there, although we could not see the ocean view because it was dark. Highly recommended, I attached some.pictures. best in port Moritz!
Nadi B — Google review
The food was unfortunately really bad. It was the first time for me not to finish the meal I ordered because how unpleasant it was. I ordered a salmon risotto which sounded really nice - but it was really salty and oily. The salmon itself didn’t taste fresh either. The others at my table didn’t like the food they ordered either. The presentation of the food was nice, there’s a nice view over the sea from the restaurant but I wouldn’t waste money on food that you won’t even eat.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sea View Restaurant in Porto Moniz, Madeira, and while the stunning ocean view and ambiance left me mesmerized, I must address the staff's attentiveness and pace of service, which fell short of expectations. However, despite this drawback, the overall experience and the exceptional quality of the food warrant a visit to this serene oceanfront haven. Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately captivated by the tranquil atmosphere and the breathtaking panoramic view of the sea. The soothing sound of crashing waves and the refreshing ocean breeze set the stage for a memorable dining experience. Now, let's delve into the heart of the matter—the food. Sea View Restaurant delivers on taste, showcasing a hamburger that is undoubtedly one of the best in Madeira. The presentation was appealing, with a perfectly grilled patty nestled between a fresh, soft bun. Each bite offered a burst of flavors, as the juicy patty, expertly seasoned and cooked to perfection, danced on the palate. The toppings, such as the crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and tangy pickles, added a refreshing crunch to the ensemble. The attention to detail and the thoughtful combination of flavors in the burger were truly commendable. The secret house-made sauce provided a tangy and slightly sweet element that complemented the meat splendidly. The overall culinary experience was undoubtedly a highlight, demonstrating that Sea View Restaurant takes pride in using high-quality ingredients and crafting memorable dishes. However, I must address the service aspect, which left room for improvement. The staff, unfortunately, seemed inattentive. Despite the service shortcomings, the serene atmosphere, the picturesque sea view, and the exceptional quality of the food at Sea View Restaurant make it a worthwhile dining destination. It is my hope that the management takes note of the service concerns and addresses them, as it has the potential to elevate the overall dining experience to new heights.

The best restaurant of the entire Island of Madeira! We stayed 10 days discovering the island and this restaurant is the best one! I'm very disappoint with the rating of 4.2! This place is 5/5 stars! Food is fresh and super high quality. I really can't believe someone give one star rating at this restaurant! Absolutely impossible to understand for me! Me and all my family we had a great time and excellent dinner! Reasonable prices also for the quality, service and quantity! 100% recommended with no hesitation!

Beautiful presentation of delicious dishes. We had the Thai coconut soup (rich flavor) and the vegan bowl (much more elaborate than the waitress was able to describe, with herbed hummus and pieces of dried fig, apricot, walnut).
Mich?le Drivon — Google review
Nice view, for the rest very eclectic and random combining of flavors and cuisines in the menu and on the plate, which don't seem to work together... . Unfortunately the worst culinary experience on the north west side. I don't know if the restaurant below is much more different but we were tricked into thinking that that is where we are going just because of the same name. We don't dare to return and give the restaurant a chance. Also, for 4 Bites of fish 19 euros? We didn't encounter this in other restaurants.

Have been twice in a week. Once with a group, they gave an excellent menu and rate. Lots of clean plates and happy faces. Visited again with my mother on her short visit to Madeira. The plating was stepped up when dining off the full menu rather than a preordered group menu. Everything just had a little extra flare. Even the view and the ocean conformed and offered a little more when we came just as a pair to dine. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Sitting watching the Atlantic throw it's spray furiously was mesmerizing. The food was wonderful and they have a rare decent selection for vegetarians for Madeira.
Alfred Charles — Google review
The view is fantastic! However, the attitude of the waiter cools be waaaay warmer, also he included in check the item we didn’t ask for, and when I noticed that, he threw the change on the counter like he did me a favor 🙄. Vegan burger with sweet potato and walnuts you can find in Google pics is not on the menu anymore. Overall, you can only have a rice “bowl” how they call it and noodles with wild mushrooms (no more vegan options)

Very good and a little bit hidden restaurant in Porto Moniz. When you come around the corner don't take the first entrance but go to the left and follow the path/stairs up to the Sea View terrace. The food was very good. I have had the chicken gyoza and the typical garlic bread (which was excellent). The service was very good and you have a very good view to the sea and the waves. The prices are a little bit above the average - but worth it! Recommendation.
Ap Blyre — Google review
TL;DR: Don't come here. The only good thing about this place is the view. The service was incredibly slow (like, 20/30 mins between courses, and the espressos didn't even arrive). The food was nothing special, for sure not much local. In fact, I'd say it's more of a touristic place. The worst thing is the price: the bill for 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 glasses of wine was 85€. This is way out of standard for Portugal, but regardless, considering the service and the quality of the food, it's definitely a red flag.
Matteo Principe — Google review
Good service and atmosphere. The restaurant has a terrace with a beautiful view on the natural pools. Strongly suggested to ask for a table there. The food is good with original composition and taste pairings. Prices aligned with the rest of the restaurant and the level of quality proposed

Really amazing service, views and food. Definitely worth coming straight here if visiting Porto Moniz. Food isn’t necessarily mind blowing or super unique but it’s still really delicious, cooked really well, and reliable. Also more of a humble, romantic atmosphere which we loved. We got tuna, catch of the day, and baked mussels + a liter of sangria. We left super satisfied and absolutely loved our waitress and the amazing lunch view of the ocean. All together a 5 star experience and one of our more memorable meals because of the service and the views.

The fish soup by itself makes it worth it to come here! Otherwise, our other items were solid but not outstanding (we tried the grilled limpets and salmon risotto). We came at a quiet time around 4pm and the balcony seat had a wonderful view of the waves.

Me and my colleagues decided to dine in and it was probably the biggest mistakes that we've made during our holiday. Apart from the beautiful view the food was horrible. We've ordered two steaks and chicken steak and we kindly asked if water was an option for the table. The water was just half a jug of tap water which contained some weird leaves floating inside it. The steaks we're extremely salty uneatable and not seasoned properly was rather bland and disgusting. Chicken steak was uneatable just too salty very salty. And surprisingly to us the chips that came with were also salty. So we were just eating dry sand for lunch. They couldn't get anything right... Awful.. After we finished eating the lady that served us didn't even bother asking us about the food quality why we haven't finished our food or nothing.. We barely touched our food... Which just shows how much they "care".. The smell of the restaurant didn't help as well with the atmosphere.. And to top it off they don't even have a normal drink menu... Just awful place overall I'd recommend avoiding this place at all costs rather stay hungry.

Portions are huge and the food is tasty. Defo share rather than ordering lots! Plenty of tables and nice bathroom facilities. Free swimming in the rock pools close by. Great views 🙂

We arrived at 1:00 PM without a reservation and were shown to one of the few remaining window seats. I believe the seats filled up shortly after. The main course came with an ample amount of side dishes perhaps a bit much for an adult female. :-)

Very nice view at the ocean. Service was good. Table and chairs were cleaned before we got seated. Food was good and we did not had to wait long.

I liked the place, its surroundings. Impressive sight. People take swims in natural pools with water from the Atlantic ocean.

Food is absolutely Horrible, the Tuna is absolutely burned, feels like cardboard. The Fries are very bad, service absolutely horrendous. Servers are very arrogant. Arriving here you feel like you are not welcomed. However, the location is nice.
João Strasser — Google review
Very nice place to dine whilst visiting the lava pools, especially if you get a seat by the window which offers great views of the sea. All of the food that came to the table tasted really nice, couldn't fault any of it. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented. The toilets were very clean. There is a souvenir shop and a display telling of the old whaling industry that used to be here.

The Cachalote Restaurant setting is absolutely spectacular. We had lunch here in mid-October 2022 as part of a bus tour of Madeira Island. Although the cod that I had was good, the service was anything but. Granted, the restaurant was very busy at the time, and the long rows of tables are placed so closely together that the servers had to be gymnasts to navigate between them. I quite frankly couldn't wait to get out of the place, ergo, no pictures of the interior.
Rosalind Gardner — Google review
The seafood is decent and there are good views of the Atlantic. However, the restaurant is very short-staffed. At lunch time when we went, there were two people who collectively greeted new dinners, prepared drinks and waited tables. That's too much for two people. As a result, service is very slow.
Anthony H — Google review
The atmosphere is 6 stars 🤩. It was a great experience in Madeira. The only thing that could have gone better was the service that was a bit slow but it's not their fault because it was already half full when we went for lunch. My recommendation is to go earlier. Definitely something to repeat!

Very good restaurant. We visited this restaurant by Google reviews and it was worth it. Potato’s, salads on side dishes, big main course. Definitely worth to eat here!

Restaurante Polo Norte is located in Vila Porto Moniz, near Porto Moniz in Madeira, Portugal. The service at this restaurant is friendly and attentive. The food is decent, although the portion sizes could be larger for the price. However, it is still sufficient for a small lunch snack. In addition to their grilled dishes, Restaurante Polo Norte is known for its seafood options.
The food is amazing and super tasty. I had grilled chicken and squid and it was soft, tasty and huge portions. The service was tquick and the atmosphere super cozy, I really felt like in a small family restaurant.

We got grilled squids and sword fish fillet which tasted nice. Good value for money and friendly staff.

Stopped here for lunch that was suggested by the tour driver. It was a set menu but with a small selection. I had the pork and the wife the local fish. Both meals were good and the portion size just right. Dessert was also included along with the local white wine. Which was quite good. The staff were friendly, and not rushed so a relaxed lunch meal time. Views across the front. Value was perfect.

We visited this reastaurant several times and it was always great dinner! Our favourite starter were limpets!!! You have to taste it!!!! With garlic bread it was so yummy! Everything was tasty! It’s better to book the table. Restaurant was busy in the evening.
Blanka Antošová Kejíková — Google review
Good food, quality coffee and cold beer in a friendly environment.

I ordered Fish soup and it didn’t have any fish in it, it seems that it was prepared from the packets, had no vegetables, potatoes herbs, like the soups I tasted at other restaurants. I told the server and he was understanding. The octopus house style tasted okay, nothing spectacular compared for a similar price point. Also ordered the local bread with garlic butter, that was never brought to us. The soup was excluded from the bill but the bread was included. How do you rate that!? The server apologised again Overall not a great experience, I do not recommend this place at all!
Yelena Antonova — Google review
Had the octopus which was grilled to perfection👌🏻 very tasty and filling nothing like ive had before! Followed by the homade chocolate cake which had coconut inside was delicious! 10/10! Perfect meal on the terrace to celebrate a birthday! The staff were lovely even though some dont know english that well but very humble and kind! Everything was spot on! Prices matches the quality of the food! Highly Recommend

We stopped over for a quick lunch while visiting the area. The service was Okay, The staff are friendly but nothing stands out especially when we asked for recommendations but the waiter was a bit flat. Wine 🍷 was a bit over priced and food was pretty average. I had way better fish stew in Maderia. Their one was a bit watery and the fish they used weren't great. Not somewhere I'm rushing to be back for if around in the area. Safely to say a typical place for tourists. Although the view from the top floor terrace was good that's why I gave it 4 stars for the atmosphere.
Carol — Google review
Our server recommended the fish and seafood macaroni. What he didn’t tell us was that the crab was fake as in they served us IMITATION crab. You’d think that a restaurant by the ocean would serve fresh seafood? Think not. What a shame, what a scam. And for 33 euros?!

Great restaurant with good selection of dishes. Espada(black scabbard fish) is served here in a few differente dishes and is absolutely delicious. Pleasant service and if you come early enough there will be plenty tables to choose from.

Conchinha is a popular cafe and restaurant located at Rua dos Emigrantes 4, offering a variety of delicious cakes and lunch options. The place is known for its friendly staff who speak multiple languages, making it easy to communicate. While the cafe can get crowded at times, the fruit cocktails are highly recommended. Visitors have enjoyed the fresh fruit drinks and tasty soups, although vegetarian and vegan options are limited.
Absolutely AMAZING! Fair prices, great food and the kindest staff. Staff speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish. The food was phenomenal. I’d recommend the tropical frappe and the bifana sandwich. The only downside is that they close early(18:00).

Good service, we had tuna salad and cheese salad, both were very tasty and well presented. This place is a little gem well worth finding.

We had our lovely lunch in this cafe during our visit to Porto Moniz. Absolute loved the food and the taste. The cafe seemed to be quite busy but we were quickly given our fruit drink which was very fresh. Though vegetarian and vegan options are less, but whatever they have is tasty. Soup was tasty and absolutely loved the vegan sandwich. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting this area.

Great little lunch spot with Seaview. Fresh chicken & tropical fruit salad, good coffee, & first cafe we have come across in Madeira with a specific vegan sandwich option. Great food portions. Homemade cake was light & tasty.

Great service, fantastic tuna sandwich, and even better passion fruit cheesecake 🤙🏻
Tom?? Buri?n — Google review
The restaurant has mostly good sandwiches, these are reasonably priced. The fruit cocktails are very good. It gets crowded, so you have to wait a while before you get your turn.

Very pretty place, tasty food, friendly staff. Only thing we didn’t like was little bit old seating. I think restaurant is at very beautiful place, it has a great potential if it was a little bit renovated :)
Nikoleta Nižnanská — Google review
It’s rather an extended snack bar than a restaurant. I ordered a soup (bread separately) and dessert. The service was prompt and dishes tasty. Bonus: the best ocean view of you sit on a balcony.
Yuliana Tsybrivska — Google review
Food was delicious, they have great pita with garlic. Tuna sandwich was amazing and if you are lucky you can get a nice table with nice view to the ocean from the balcony.

Great food with friendly service! They do an amazing job!!

Tourist trap! We ordered grilled limpets but they only had grilled mussels, and we got charged 8.5 EUR for just 6 of them. Seriously?.. The pork in the pork sandwich also tasted quite bad. They are the only few restaurants around the natural pool so I guess they don’t worry too much about review. However if you do go due to limited options around the area, please at least avoid the grilled “limpets”/mussels and pork sandwich for sure.
Joanna F — Google review
The food was beautifully prepared and absolutely tasteless. I didn't want to finish it. Only vegetable soup and fish soup were delicious. The chocolate cake was 3/5. I don't recommend this place.
Anastasia Veselovska — Google review
This restaurant is one of the few in this city where one feels like a guest. It's a pleasant service, despite the fact that they have a lot of work. I only had a seafood soup and even so they let me sit on the balcony terrace with two tables :). The right choice, I am extremely satisfied. Well thank you
Martin Rysavy — Google review
The special prego and the vegan (maybe it was vego) sanga with a side salad was enough to fuel two hungry blokes who’ve spent the day walking and swimming. Was great service and the food was grouse
Guy Walker — Google review
Good place to eat. Not too high prices besides having cheaper options in the island, not in Porto Moniz though. The stuff is friendly and speak many languages, easy to communicate. The only weak point is that it was really hot in the place. It's not something the restaurant can handle that easily but it's a point. Recommend to eat if you step over this small town.
Nano Feliz — Google review
Nice restaurant in the village. The prices are reasonable (maybe just above average), the service is very nice and fast. The kitchen is available until late hours. The balcony has limited space but beautiful.

For dinner I avoided the pizzerias and seaside restaurants at Porto Moniz which seem to cater mainly to the tourist crowds. Instead I had a great Fruto do Mar salad at this lovely sea-side bistro Continua (found thanks to google reviews!) sitting on the balcony with a great view almost all to myself (the bliss of travelling alone). Only regret is I couldn't try other snacks they have - the sandwiches looked super delicious when I saw them being served.
Yulia G. — Google review
Very popular with visitors. I got a place on the small veranda straight away although I waited ages for service. I didn't mind as it's a great place for chillaxing. The vegan sandwich was delicious and I had it with fresh lemon tea.

Staff were friendly and accommodating knowing we were tight on time (lunch break for a day trip tour). Ordered the 'prego à conchinha' which was so good, a side of 'batata frita' and 'sopa de peixe'. Every dish was good and affordable!

Beautiful cafe with lovely staff. We tried the home made fries and they were amazing. Fresh juices, delicious. 😋

Fantastic spot. The best soundtrack to your meal ever. In the 10 years we have been coming here, it is the dodgy rock music that brings us back time after time! Who doesn’t live a little AC/DC with their food? The food is good and well priced. Best in the town.

The ladies here are so friendly, and their service was amazing! We stopped in for lunch while visiting Porto Moniz and loved it. The food was great and fresh, and the prices were extremely affordable.

Located in Vila Porto Moniz near Porto Moniz, the Snack-Bar Restaurante Salgueiro offers a vegan-unfriendly menu and has received negative recommendations due to its staff. However, patrons can enjoy free Wi-Fi while watching sports competitions on a screen or television. Despite these drawbacks, this establishment provides excellent value for money with its welcoming and accommodating staff. Even when arriving just before closing time, guests are still warmly greeted.
Running in the restaurant from a heavy rain - with 80 other people in the same time. Despite this we got the food in appropriate amount of time. It was delicious and filling. +Panorama windows. Worth to have a lunch here if you really hungry.

We are disappointed. Friendly service, but for 14€-fish we didn't expected to have spoiled tomato and the fish was extremely salty.
Slavko Tretiak — Google review
The food, service, and atmosphere are good. But the best part is the view, especially when the sea is waving.
Amir Damercheli — Google review
The service in this place was abysmal we had to get our own menus and it took a long time to get served. However the food was quite good. Small nitpick but you couldn't select the rarity of your meat so it was a bit of a potluck. I got a rare whilst my companion got well done! Maybe find a different restaurant.

Decided to try this place, since its right next to the natural pools. We had lamb chops & stuffed trout. Lamb chops had more fat than meat & way over cooked. Trout was stuffed with veggies that were still raw (crunchy). Staff did not smile, seemed like they hated their jobs. Not friendly. Do not recommend this & will not return. I usually take pictures for my reviews, this place wasn't picture worthy.

We ordered soup and fish. Was waiting for 35 minutes, then I started to ask when we will get our soups. After 5 minutes we got 1 soup from 2. Was necessary to explane that we ordered 2 soups! The second soup was delivered together with fish. Soups was very hot, so we started to eat fish and find that it was quite cold... But portions was big. After we finished I understood that is necessary to go to the bar and to pay. Other guests was doing the same. Orhervise you can wait for a waiter next 15 minutes.

The seafood and fish soups were absolutely delicious, and bolo do caco paired perfectly with both! Mussels were fresh and tasty as well, and the service fast and friendly. Pricing affordable.

The fish of the day on the grill is delicious and the portions are huge! Very good food here! The staff is very nice! The view over natural pools is fantastic!
Anca Adochitei — Google review
High value for money and super friendly staff. We got there half an hour before they closed and they still welcomed us! We ordered the fish soup and seafood soup, and they could get you full with all the ingredients. I enjoyed the soup a lot, they were a bit salty though. Mussels are good and garlic bread is average. I will definitely come back to try other dishes!
Elizabeth Kwan — Google review
The food was absolutely disgusting. Potatoes looked like from school canteen ale they weren't even worth eating, the fish with passion friut is the worst idea ever. Shrimps were overcooked and everything was underseasoned. To addition everything is overpriced. I highly recommend not to eat in this place.
Alex Saran — Google review
They have a very good “fish of the day”. And the chicken skewer was really great. The people who wrote about pizza, I mean you are in Portugal where they have the best fish dishes , why would you order pizza? Only an American can write those bad reviews about ordering pizzas.
Miriam Safari — Google review
After we waited 55 minutes they brought the main course and forgot that we ordered soups. Restaurant is lacking at least 2-3 staff members. Girls that are serving tables are very kind.
Noela Ostric — Google review
Bad (sassy?) service. I ordered the tuna steak which came with fries and a side salad. This meal and the meals of others at the table were rather boring food of average quality. Kind of bland interior.
Cameron Birchall — Google review
Fish soup came with lot of fish bones, some were small, but some were the size of olive. Lazy cook l, danger food. When I told it to the waiter, he dismissed it even when he was looking at those large bones. Highly not recommended. I wish I looked at the reviews before I went in.
