We stopped by during our guided tour with the private guide. I took a stroll around the pool area and it was a sunny warm day so there were a fair amount of people enjoying a swim in the natural pool. The cafeteria has an outdoor sitting area for a quick coffee, drinks or coffee. Kids friendly place, and there are loads of families around. Great atmosphere and view for photos.

Amazing day activity, 4€ for all day entry. Depending on the weather, different parts of the pools close (f.e. when we visited the whole complex was shut down at 16.00 due to large waves). Pools are connected so you can even get a decent swim in refreshing ocean water. There are changing rooms and no sunbeds.

The place was amazing. I used my decathlon snorkelling mask to see some beautiful fishes. The water was very cold but ok once you are in. Note that the area to get in is very slippery and we saw many people falling. Please take care and enter with caution.

Unique and cool place to go for swimming. And for just €1.50. Not very crowded but maybe depends on the day you visit. Some lifeguards controlling crowds. Some parts were closed probably because of waves. I believe that during calm weather everything is open. Also there is lockers but I think they are available for and extra charge. A MUST-See, must DO on your trip to Madeira, even though it's on the other side of the island from Funchal. Although make sure you go on a weekday, when it’s not crowded. There are all different kinds of natural pools with different depths. My favorite was the diving board off the east end into the ocean. Definitely bring food and water, as available concessions are limited.

Porto Moniz has two lots of swimming 'pools'. The one to pay which is almost man made and the second more natural with pools among the natural rock formation. They were leaning the former so it was closed but we were thrilled that the natural one was free of charge. Don't know if this is always, we were there end December. The sea was rough a d a couple of people were thrown off the legde so respect the ocean and keep a look out for big waves. The area itself is beautiful too and warrants the long bus ride from Funchal!!

Neat swimming area on the island of Madeira. There are two natural swimming pools about 500 yards apart. Both have restaurants and bars that overlook them. Absolutely gorgeous and unusual setting. This area is almost an hour away from the cruise terminal, if you are traveling by ship. I didn’t try the water because it was February, windy, and the Atlantic is already cool. This was my favorite area on the Portuguese island.

It's one of the coolest places I have ever been! If you are visiting Porto Moniz, you have to go here! Some of it was closed off due to weather, but we had more than enough area to explore. I would recommend going in the early morning if you want less crowding as it gets busier as the day goes on!

This is definitely a must see!!! Even if it lays on the north part of the island, the road is very good and it just takes around 40 min to drive there, and it’s totally worth the road trip! There is a couple of supermarkets in the village, but also along the road, in case you want to save some money and have a picnic by the water. Oh! And the entrance is free!!

It’s a great experience there are free pools towards the right and we don’t need to pay it natural infinity pool. It’s a mesmerising scenic view of the ocean as we lie and see it from the natural swimming pool. Once lifetime opportunity to experience it. Paid parking everywhere along the pool and Laura restaurants, where we can have dinner and snacks or a drink after our swim.

Very quiet when I arrived at 10am. Got busy around 1pm, even for February. The water was cold although I still went for a swim. Everything was very clean. Although there were only 3 Women's toilets there were plenty of changing cubicles and lockers . No sun loungers at wintertime so bring something to sit on. Cafe was shut.

The pool is beautiful, the water is very refreshing (but better move while in there, the weather is amazing even end of November but the water feels chilly until you get used to it). Best spent 3 EUR of the day, shower, changing room, toilet all included, a most swim experience.

Quite nice place, can't complain. It's small, doesn't take much time. The bad thing is that some fish have too small aquariums for them and they clearly need more room to be happy:( But it was cool, i saw sharks and a ray and many other fish.

Was well worth the 7 euros. Multiple small tanks with many different species, and a big tank you can see from different sides. Even our 5 month old loved it.

After my visit, I felt extremely sad for the fish imprisoned inside too small tanks for their size. And honestly i blame myself for supporting them to continue torturing poor animals by paying 7 € for entrance. It's even sadder to see them trapped in such tiny tanks just next to a great ocean.

A nice way to pass some time. A little bit pricey at €7 for something that you could quite easily only spend 15 minutes in - if you weren't to pore over each exhibition. The exhibitions were generally in good condition however some of the Grey Mullet had far exceeded their tank size and deserved a larger environment.

An enjoyable afternoon spent watching the variety of sea creatures including a class of scuba divers practicing their skills. Having seen behind the scenes, I was impressed by the amount of work that is undertaken to ensure the fish are kept under optimum conditions.

This aquarium is simply a joke. It's very small, and in no more than 20 minutes (and I'm being indulgent) you're done seeing everything. But that's not the biggest problem, it's that the species of fish and other life in this aquarium are absolutely mundane, commonplace things I've seen in other, much larger and better laid out places. The Children loved the Aquarium. It might be very small in route, but the kids loved it. For the little fair amount as entrance they enjoyed a lot and we got quite a few cool pictures.

I do not understand the pricing as I've been to several other aquariums for 25% to double the price where the visit is ten times longer and much more well equipped and produced. Only visit if you have extra cash to throw out and you've ran out of things to do at Porto Moniz, which I would say is far fetched. Save the money for some actual natural and non-captive fish watching like having scuba diving or go dolphin/whale watching on a boat.

Very good and a little bit hidden restaurant in Porto Moniz. When you come around the corner don't take the first entrance but go to the left and follow the path/stairs up to the Sea View terrace. The food was very good. I have had the chicken gyoza and the typical garlic bread (which was excellent). The service was very good and you have a very good view to the sea and the waves. The prices are a little bit above the average - but worth it! Recommendation.

TL;DR: Don't come here. The only good thing about this place is the view. The service was incredibly slow (like, 20/30 mins between courses, and the espressos didn't even arrive). The worst thing is the price: the bill for 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 glasses of wine was 85€. Great place to enjoy sunset and views of Porto Moniz. Nice and friendly stuff, tasty food. Just recommending to make a reservation in advice and in the balcony! This is probably the best place to eat in Porto Moniz.

Really amazing service, views and food. Definitely worth coming straight here if visiting Porto Moniz. Food isn’t necessarily mind blowing or super unique but it’s still really delicious, cooked really well, and reliable. Also more of a humble, romantic atmosphere which we loved. We got tuna, catch of the day, and baked mussels + a liter of sangria. We left super satisfied and absolutely loved our waitress and the amazing lunch view of the ocean. All together a 5 star experience and one of our more memorable meals because of the service and the views.

The fish soup by itself makes it worth it to come here! Otherwise, our other items were solid but not outstanding (we tried the grilled limpets and salmon risotto). We came at a quiet time around 4pm and the balcony seat had a wonderful view of the waves.

Me and my colleagues decided to dine in and it was probably the biggest mistakes that we've made during our holiday. Apart from the beautiful view the food was horrible. We've ordered two steaks and chicken steak and we kindly asked if water was an option for the table. The water was just half a jug of tap water which contained some weird leaves floating inside it. The steaks we're extremely salty uneatable and not seasoned properly was rather bland and disgusting. Chicken steak was uneatable just too salty very salty. And surprisingly to us the chips that came with were also salty. So we were just eating dry sand for lunch. They couldn't get anything right... Awful.. After we finished eating the lady that served us didn't even bother asking us about the food quality why we haven't finished our food or nothing.. We barely touched our food... Which just shows how much they "care".. The smell of the restaurant didn't help as well with the atmosphere.. And to top it off they don't even have a normal drink menu... Just awful place overall I'd recommend avoiding this place at all costs rather stay hungry.

We arrived at 1:00 PM without a reservation and were shown to one of the few remaining window seats. I believe the seats filled up shortly after. The main course came with an ample amount of side dishes perhaps a bit much for an adult female. :-)

Food is absolutely Horrible, the Tuna is absolutely burned, feels like cardboard. The Fries are very bad, service absolutely horrendous. Servers are very arrogant. Arriving here you feel like you are not welcomed. However, the location is nice.

Very nice place to dine whilst visiting the lava pools, especially if you get a seat by the window which offers great views of the sea. All of the food that came to the table tasted really nice, couldn't fault any of it. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented. The toilets were very clean. There is a souvenir shop and a display telling of the old whaling industry that used to be here.

The Cachalote Restaurant setting is absolutely spectacular. We had lunch here in mid-October 2022 as part of a bus tour of Madeira Island. Although the cod that I had was good, the service was anything but. Granted, the restaurant was very busy at the time, and the long rows of tables are placed so closely together that the servers had to be gymnasts to navigate between them. I quite frankly couldn't wait to get out of the place, ergo, no pictures of the interior.

Stopped here for lunch that was suggested by the tour driver. It was a set menu but with a small selection. I had the pork and the wife the local fish. Both meals were good and the portion size just right. Dessert was also included along with the local white wine. Which was quite good. The staff were friendly, and not rushed so a relaxed lunch meal time. Views across the front. Value was perfect.

Had the octopus which was grilled to perfection👌🏻 very tasty and filling nothing like ive had before! Followed by the homade chocolate cake which had coconut inside was delicious! 10/10! Perfect meal on the terrace to celebrate a birthday! The staff were lovely even though some dont know english that well but very humble and kind! Everything was spot on! Prices matches the quality of the food! Highly Recommend

We stopped over for a quick lunch while visiting the area. The service was Okay, The staff are friendly but nothing stands out especially when we asked for recommendations but the waiter was a bit flat. Wine 🍷 was a bit over priced and food was pretty average. I had way better fish stew in Maderia. Their one was a bit watery and the fish they used weren't great. Not somewhere I'm rushing to be back for if around in the area. Safely to say a typical place for tourists. Although the view from the top floor terrace was good that's why I gave it 4 stars for the atmosphere.

Our server recommended the fish and seafood macaroni. What he didn’t tell us was that the crab was fake as in they served us IMITATION crab. You’d think that a restaurant by the ocean would serve fresh seafood? Think not. What a shame, what a scam. And for 33 euros?!

Great restaurant with good selection of dishes. Espada(black scabbard fish) is served here in a few differente dishes and is absolutely delicious. Pleasant service and if you come early enough there will be plenty tables to choose from.

Good service, we had tuna salad and cheese salad, both were very tasty and well presented. This place is a little gem well worth finding.

We had our lovely lunch in this cafe during our visit to Porto Moniz. Absolute loved the food and the taste. The cafe seemed to be quite busy but we were quickly given our fruit drink which was very fresh. Though vegetarian and vegan options are less, but whatever they have is tasty. Soup was tasty and absolutely loved the vegan sandwich. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting this area.

Great little lunch spot with Seaview. Fresh chicken & tropical fruit salad, good coffee, & first cafe we have come across in Madeira with a specific vegan sandwich option. Great food portions. Homemade cake was light & tasty.

The restaurant has mostly good sandwiches, these are reasonably priced. The fruit cocktails are very good. It gets crowded, so you have to wait a while before you get your turn.

It’s rather an extended snack bar than a restaurant. I ordered a soup (bread separately) and dessert. The service was prompt and dishes tasty. Bonus: the best ocean view of you sit on a balcony.

Food was delicious, they have great pita with garlic. Tuna sandwich was amazing and if you are lucky you can get a nice table with nice view to the ocean from the balcony.

Tourist trap! We ordered grilled limpets but they only had grilled mussels, and we got charged 8.5 EUR for just 6 of them. Seriously?.. The pork in the pork sandwich also tasted quite bad. They are the only few restaurants around the natural pool so I guess they don’t worry too much about review. However if you do go due to limited options around the area, please at least avoid the grilled “limpets”/mussels and pork sandwich for sure.

The food was beautifully prepared and absolutely tasteless. I didn't want to finish it. Only vegetable soup and fish soup were delicious. The chocolate cake was 3/5. I don't recommend this place.

This restaurant is one of the few in this city where one feels like a guest. It's a pleasant service, despite the fact that they have a lot of work. I only had a seafood soup and even so they let me sit on the balcony terrace with two tables :). The right choice, I am extremely satisfied. Well thank you

The special prego and the vegan (maybe it was vego) sanga with a side salad was enough to fuel two hungry blokes who’ve spent the day walking and swimming. Was great service and the food was grouse

Good place to eat. Not too high prices besides having cheaper options in the island, not in Porto Moniz though. The stuff is friendly and speak many languages, easy to communicate. The only weak point is that it was really hot in the place. It's not something the restaurant can handle that easily but it's a point. Recommend to eat if you step over this small town.

Nice restaurant in the village. The prices are reasonable (maybe just above average), the service is very nice and fast. The kitchen is available until late hours. The balcony has limited space but beautiful.

For dinner I avoided the pizzerias and seaside restaurants at Porto Moniz which seem to cater mainly to the tourist crowds. Instead I had a great Fruto do Mar salad at this lovely sea-side bistro Continua (found thanks to google reviews!) sitting on the balcony with a great view almost all to myself (the bliss of travelling alone). Only regret is I couldn't try other snacks they have - the sandwiches looked super delicious when I saw them being served.

Very popular with visitors. I got a place on the small veranda straight away although I waited ages for service. I didn't mind as it's a great place for chillaxing. The vegan sandwich was delicious and I had it with fresh lemon tea.

Staff were friendly and accommodating knowing we were tight on time (lunch break for a day trip tour). Ordered the 'prego à conchinha' which was so good, a side of 'batata frita' and 'sopa de peixe'. Every dish was good and affordable!

Fantastic spot. The best soundtrack to your meal ever. In the 10 years we have been coming here, it is the dodgy rock music that brings us back time after time! Who doesn’t live a little AC/DC with their food? The food is good and well priced. Best in the town.

The ladies here are so friendly, and their service was amazing! We stopped in for lunch while visiting Porto Moniz and loved it. The food was great and fresh, and the prices were extremely affordable.

We are disappointed. Friendly service, but for 14€-fish we didn't expected to have spoiled tomato and the fish was extremely salty.

The food, service, and atmosphere are good. But the best part is the view, especially when the sea is waving.

The service in this place was abysmal we had to get our own menus and it took a long time to get served. However the food was quite good. Small nitpick but you couldn't select the rarity of your meat so it was a bit of a potluck. I got a rare whilst my companion got well done! Maybe find a different restaurant.

Decided to try this place, since its right next to the natural pools. We had lamb chops & stuffed trout. Lamb chops had more fat than meat & way over cooked. Trout was stuffed with veggies that were still raw (crunchy). Staff did not smile, seemed like they hated their jobs. Not friendly. Do not recommend this & will not return. I usually take pictures for my reviews, this place wasn't picture worthy.

We ordered soup and fish. Was waiting for 35 minutes, then I started to ask when we will get our soups. After 5 minutes we got 1 soup from 2. Was necessary to explane that we ordered 2 soups! The second soup was delivered together with fish. Soups was very hot, so we started to eat fish and find that it was quite cold... But portions was big. After we finished I understood that is necessary to go to the bar and to pay. Other guests was doing the same. Orhervise you can wait for a waiter next 15 minutes.

The seafood and fish soups were absolutely delicious, and bolo do caco paired perfectly with both! Mussels were fresh and tasty as well, and the service fast and friendly. Pricing affordable.

The fish of the day on the grill is delicious and the portions are huge! Very good food here! The staff is very nice! The view over natural pools is fantastic!

High value for money and super friendly staff. We got there half an hour before they closed and they still welcomed us! We ordered the fish soup and seafood soup, and they could get you full with all the ingredients. I enjoyed the soup a lot, they were a bit salty though. Mussels are good and garlic bread is average. I will definitely come back to try other dishes!

The food was absolutely disgusting. Potatoes looked like from school canteen ale they weren't even worth eating, the fish with passion friut is the worst idea ever. Shrimps were overcooked and everything was underseasoned. To addition everything is overpriced. I highly recommend not to eat in this place.

They have a very good “fish of the day”. And the chicken skewer was really great. The people who wrote about pizza, I mean you are in Portugal where they have the best fish dishes , why would you order pizza? Only an American can write those bad reviews about ordering pizzas.

After we waited 55 minutes they brought the main course and forgot that we ordered soups. Restaurant is lacking at least 2-3 staff members. Girls that are serving tables are very kind.

Bad (sassy?) service. I ordered the tuna steak which came with fries and a side salad. This meal and the meals of others at the table were rather boring food of average quality. Kind of bland interior.

Fish soup came with lot of fish bones, some were small, but some were the size of olive. Lazy cook l, danger food. When I told it to the waiter, he dismissed it even when he was looking at those large bones. Highly not recommended. I wish I looked at the reviews before I went in.
