Architectural Buildings
"The First Romanian School" Museum, located in the Schei district near St. Nicholas Church, is a historical gem that dates back to 1583 when the first courses in the Romanian language were held there. The museum houses around 4,000 old books and over 30,000 documents and artifacts related to Romanian education in the region. The building itself has a rich history, having been reconstructed in baroque style in 1760. Additionally, adjacent to St.
Though I found myself in this location in late afternoon, it is worth special attention and a special visit. One of the special highlites of Brasov. The territory is great. I Haven't managed to visit the museum because of the late time. The cathedral is GREAT! A breathtaking ensemble. I just walked around it, watching and admiring... For now I can 't describe a lot, having not seen much. But sure - this highligt is worth a separate time, spent.

Such an interesting museum! ✅ Very kind and funny guide - many detailed explanations, presented to the children's liking. Tickets cannot be bought in advance. No appointments are made for groups. Maybe change this rule, it would be easier for groups. Visited November 2023

What an amazing museum and tour! It was more than worth the visit. We went on our first day to Brasov, and it was closed; so so happy we returned. The guide was incredibly kind and full of fascinating information that he presented in a fun way. He made the visit interactive, as we were “pupils” of the school for the day. I visited with my 11 year old son, and we were both surprised at how much he enjoyed the visit too! He gave our guide full credit for making it an experience and one he wants to return to! Thank you!!!

Not sure how to present the school and experience... For me it was welcoming and educational. My brain struggled to remember the bits and pieces of the story that I knew. The short tour takes you through an important part of Romanian history. The tour is condensed, a lot of information in a short time, but the guide was engaging and the stories good.

Nice and comfy experience, thanks to (Iywan) our guide who was amazing. He was funny informative and helpful. The place is nice and worth visiting.

Absolutely a must see if in Brasov, the tour the guide gave us emmersed us in another world (so sorry we did not get your name, you are an absolute credit to the museum) that we were honoured to be part of, part hystory part theatre play, you learn and love to rediscover great men that made hystory and lots of artefacts available only here. Great gifts to take home, hugely recommended!

Such an interesting museum! Our guide was so kind and knowledgeable. The museum itself was very interesting and we gained a lot of insight into the rich history of Romania. The tour was engaging, intriguing and interactive. As a student teacher from Dublin this museum was a must see for me and it didn’t disappoint! I recommend for everyone who happens to be in Brasov to pay a visit to this little museum.

We had such a great experience visiting this amazing historical landmark. If only we could all be conscious of the hidden treasures we discovered here. Our tour guide, Teacher Ioan, revealed such interesting informations, presented in a professional and original manner. Our visit here was real ‘food’ for both mind and soul.

Very interesting experience! We had a very nice and knowledgeable guide. Learnt a lot about the history of Romanian school and first books The guide was friendly and held the whole tour in English. However, we felt that the whole tour went on too quickly and the guide was very rushed, moving from subject to subject almost immediately and without leaving any time for questions

"The first Romanian School " Museum main building is in renovation but you still got the opportunity to learn about the history of the language and education of Romanian culture in the Barac house. You can achieve or buy the tickets from the tour guide, and if you fail to meet him, please try contact him via mobile phone. The tour guide is the best example of a good and witty teacher, please attempt his class with an open mind and opportunity to learn.

Lovely museum and church, filled with rich history, artefacts and a knowlegeable and fun guide. Great and unique gifts as well to take home. Worth a visit and while it may seem pricey, it's a small price for conserving a significant part of Romanian people history.

We just so happened to stumble on a tour that Ion was giving. He is extremely knowledgeable about Romanian history and events leading up to the establishment of the first Romanian school. Being an American born Romanian, it made me realize how little I knew of my ancestral country, but also motivated me to learn more and be proud of being Romanian. Ion is very engaging and presents very well. I will be coming back here with more of my family in the future! Highly recommend to anyone and everyone to come visit.

Church
Sights & Landmarks
The Black Church in Brasov is a grand Gothic church, renowned for its unique architecture and rich history. Its name derives from a fire that occurred in the 1600s. The interior of the church is adorned with murals and Ottoman rugs, adding to its atmospheric gothic vibe. A visit to this iconic landmark is recommended for anyone visiting Brasov. It's not just a religious site but also serves as a historical attraction filled with valuable information about the city's past.
The Black Church is a must-see if you are going to Brasov. It's a big quiet place, filled with history and information. The church is built in a Gothic style and it reflects the architecture of the city. You can also go on a little "easter-egg" hunt in order to find the statue of the falling child.
Transilvania Trap Squad — Google review
A great experience! A beautiful church, a lot of history that takes you for a couple of moments back in time. A lot of German writings that impress through the meaning of it, but also through the old language used previously. Highly recommended when in Brasov to visit the church.
Lua Sav — Google review
Beautiful, striking gothic church just at the back of the main square in the old town. Pay for tickets (20 lei for adults) in the small shop opposite the main entrance. The church has beautiful high vaulted ceilings and beautiful carpet decoration and murals. Well worth a visit to gain some history to Brasov.
Livvy Dee — Google review
Great, solemn building. Has the feeling of a museum more than that of a church. And it is. Entrance requires a fee. Still, very much worth going inside.
C?t?lin Ionete — Google review
Big building. Very cold inside. The inside air is antique ❤️Beautiful architecture. Great history. Tickets cost as 20 lei Ro each. Easy to find.
Stela Caraus — Google review
A very amazing place, you need to pay a ticket in the little room in front but the church is very well kept, with a lot of sign and history, we can see it was built by the catholic, but it then became protestant, and the whole story is written there, a very beautiful place full of history... i highly recommend if you love history and you can also enjoy the beautiful town of Brasov.
Luca Billerach — Google review
Nice church with tons of history. Lots of trilingual information inside. Many beautiful statues and historical spots. Pity it's just 1 floor. It's definitely worth checking out. Tickets are 20LEI

A must see when you are in Brasov. Tickets: 20 lei for adults 10 lei for students. Is a quick visit at just one level (ground level) 15-30 minutes. The Black Church is a monument full of history, inside is cold and smells like old wood. The pieces of art (picture, sculpture) are interesting to observe and the huge organ is a unique view.
Burghelea Oana — Google review
Always a pleasure to return to the most Eastern Gothic cathedral in Europe, magnificent proof of more than seven centuries of Saxon (Sachsen to be very precise) civilization in Kronstadt~Brasov, in the South-Eastern tip of Transilvania~Siebenburgen. Beautifully restored several years ago and carefully preserved by a small but vibrant German community, proudly surviving in the heart of 2021 Romania.
Silviu Radulescu — Google review
So simple and clear design. Unlike in France, you need to buy ticket to visit this church, which is a good way to raise money to maintain these beautiful buildings (why don't we do the same in France ?). The explanation of the church history is quite well done, in 3 languages, with some very interesting and beautiful tombstones. Coming from Bulgaria, with many Orthodox churches , the contrast is striking. The Romanian Lutheran churches are very straight forward, beautiful.
Xavier Gaubert-Amy — Google review
Amazing building and was made from bulgarians. It was very spectacular. Hope next time we can see inside too.
Elica Kircheva — Google review
Visiting the Black Church in Brasov was an awe-inspiring experience that left me utterly mesmerized. This imposing Gothic marvel, also known as Biserica Neagră, is an architectural gem nestled in the heart of the picturesque city. The Black Church's location in the heart of Brasov's historic center makes it easily accessible, and its towering spires can be seen from various vantage points around the city. Be sure to explore the charming square that surrounds it, filled with cafes and shops offering a delightful taste of Transylvanian culture. Whether you are a history enthusiast, an architecture aficionado, or simply a traveler seeking a moment of serenity, the Black Church should be at the top of your list. It's a place where the past meets the present, and where the beauty of human creativity and devotion truly shine. Don't miss the opportunity to witness this Gothic masterpiece; it's an experience you'll treasure forever.

Brasova is the place I regret not being able to get into. It was closed when we arrived as there was a long traffic jam on the road. but it also has a very magnificent and intriguing appearance from the outside.

A stunning piece of architecture and a must visit site when in Braşov. This is a really large structure that is stunning and stands out greatly. There is a really nice little store attached to the church that is great for souvenirs and gifts.
Matthew Harwood — Google review
Great historical place with information in several languages. Second time I visit the church, first time in 2007, and it have become much better information wise than previously. The 20 lei entrance fee is not a bother as it is well worth the visit.
Clabbe Bjurström — Google review
Majestic gothic cathedral. The exterior is centuries old. Don't miss the impressive organ on the inside. You have to buy tickets from the gift shop across the street, opposite the main entrance.
Stavros Tzelos — Google review
One of the best churches I have ever been in. Although the entrance isn't free, and inside it's very cold, I can say that it is worth it to visit the church once and look at all the paintings.
The Chosen One — Google review
Not great, not terrible. Just an average experience. Don't be fooled by the reviews on the internet; most of them are written by Romanians who love their country and do their best to promote it; in addition, in Romania we don't really have awe-inspiring castles and cathedrals, so it is understandable why someone who has never traveled to Western Europe is impressed by this church. I'm not saying that the monument is not worth a visit, I am only saying that the entire experience could be a little disappointing for someone who has seen the majestic european cathedrals. Positive points: - those who appreciate organ music (not my case) can attend the numerous concerts organized in the church - the collection of carpets - finally, money was found for the restoration of the statues on the exterior wall of the church

The White Tower is a restored 15th-century watchtower in Brasov, Romania. It offers a museum experience with photos and pictures of the city's history. The tower has an open semicircular plan shaped like a horseshoe and was once the most interesting defensive bastion of the Fortress of Brasov. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Black Church, Republicii Street with its Renaissance, Classic and Baroque architecture, and other historical buildings in the area.
From here you can have a great view and you could plan your route through the historical points of the city , sit on a bench with your loved one and have a nice moment together or just enjoy 1 last peek of the city before you go back home (like I did) 😎
Florin Constantin — Google review
The location is quite good to capture the old city of Brasov including the Tampa hill and the BRASOV text from above. Reaching the white tower is quite easy. You will have to go to the streed behind the walls and then at some point cross the first bridge to the left and hike to it. The tower was not opened on a Monday and I don't know if it ever opens for visiting.
Radu H. — Google review
An interesting site that offers some of the best views across Braşov. The walk up is a rewarding one with stunning views, it is just a shame that the tower is covered in graffiti.
Matthew Harwood — Google review
It was closed, you can make some good picture there were you can see some part of the city.

Narrow high stairs to climb up. Much more difficult than the black tower. But it's well worth it once you get on top. Great that there are multiple views from around the city to enjoy the entirety of the center area.

Fiftish steps upwards a steep hill lead to a noteworthy local historical site. Despite the panoramic views it offers, this place craves attention... No public acces over the past years.

Great location to see old center, great view. Not that much space to walk though and it fills with people really fast, since its not that much to see there.
Chief Tec — Google review
This place has a really nice view over the old part of the Brașov town. It is easy accessible, but the stairs can kill someone with heart problems. Can be improved and provide a better experience for the tourists. When I visited it wasn't open for visits. It should be better promoted.

A walk through the woods or climbing uphill hundred stairs ~ it is probably the best place for Brașov city viewing. Standing on the wooden balcony at the pavement of the White Tower, you can spot all the high rises churches, buildings of the old city center and also the surrounding medieval walls, hilltop fortress, and bastions. Beautiful place!
Sumandra mitra — Google review
The best place to gaze at Brașov cityscape. The view from the wooden balcony of the White Tower is perfect to spot all details of the old city center and the surrounding medieval walls, hilltop fortress, and bastions. I enjoyed walking the Street Behind the Walls (Strada După Ziduri) then climb the stairway to the Tower. The Tower itself needs restoration.

The Stâna Turistică Sergiana is an artisanal cheese farm situated in the mountains of Poiana Brasov. It offers visitors a chance to experience traditional Romanian life and culture through its cheese production. The restaurant features live music and excellent food, making it a must-visit for tourists from all over the world.
A place where you need to go at any cost if you're in Brașov! Nice atmosphere, with live music! I've been in "sergiana" restaurants many times, but this one is different! Also they have live traditional music ! Good quality of food , and good products! This place is a must, specially if you're a tourist from a different country! It will take your holiday to another dimension.

The restaurant is famous for lamb. We were 3 guys and 2 are lamb lover so we ordered 2 lamb dishes, one is good one is not. The first name I forgot, but I think it is top recommended which you could easily find it on the first page first line of the menu. The second is grill lamb chops, which is too dry to taste the fresh of the meat. Besides, have to say the lamb quality itself is good, so hope the chief could improve the grill skill. And the environment is great, but it is not friendly road to arrive.

A wonderful place to experience Romanian culture. The perfect blend of interior design, food, and service. Everything is styled in the classic rustic Romanian tradition. The food is fantastic, fresh, and rich in flavors, made from high-quality ingredients. A huge thank you for allowing us to visit with a dog. It's quite challenging to find a pet-friendly place in this area. They allowed us to have a special table and helped our dog settle in comfortably. Truly outstanding hospitality. Thank you so much.

A great job at making this feel authentic. The food is great and also the service. Must give it a try if you are in the area. Keep up the good work!

What a place! Wow ,Wow and WOW! The service it's very good ! The food is incomparable with other dishes in the area, it's on another level! Homemade bread ! they make in their ovens in the same place behind the restaurant, bacon, ham, peppers dipped in Romanian vinegar and many other traditional Romanian goodies. The prices are normal, they are not exaggerated and I really thought that at such a quality, the price will certainly go up, but I was wrong, the price is quite normal, it's really worth it. I was fascinated by this place. I will definitely be back soon I recommend 100% Thank you Stână Turistică Sergiana!

Authentic Romanian cuisine in a very beautiful spot. The food is absolutely delicious. The homemade baked bread that comes with the soups is enough to accompany you throughout your entire meals. Tripe soup with onion and sour cream is a must try! For sure will be coming back when visiting Brașov and Poiana Brașov!
Tudor Costea — Google review
Love the whole aesthetic, It's a re-imagined old Romanian restaurant/tavern: all made of stone and wood, rustic, even the chairs are hand-made. The service is superb, if you order soup, it'll be at your table in maximum 5 minutes, the other dishes take a bit longer, but still quite fast. All of the food is incredible, left completely full, in a good way. Looking forward to come again

Cool place to check out of you area on the area. The lake with the boats looks amazing, but it's closed.

Food was good and fast. Fair prices. Good service & awesome rustic decorations. The only downside is getting there, as the road is not paved (might be a problem during rainy days). Also google maps might not take you there correctly! So take the turn fron the main street only of you see the big Sergiana indicator.

Great place to eat and enjoy the Rumanian countryside. One of the best bread I’ve got in a restaurant ( it was free but I don’t know if it cost otherwise), it was warm and soft with crunchy crust! Portions are pretty small so I recommend soup and main dish. Excellent papanasi ( Rumanian donuts ). Good service with friendly stuff.

Also the styling of the location is very thoughtful, in sync with the nature, it really feels like a time travel capsule back in the days 😅 Irina was our waiter and she was just lovely, always attentive and we appreciated this. I wasn't that satisfied with the food, very big prices, didn't had all the things in the menu, The last mile is on dirt road so I got my car dusty. The place though is looking very nice and traditional. Next time I will go to another Sergiana restaurant, the one from Rasnov was amazing.

I love this restaurant for many reasons: The staff is professional, the food is great, the atmosphere is nice, perfect location etc. Friday I had lunch here. Catalina was the one who took care of me. What a wonderful restaurant. I agree with the other reviews that say the restaurant is”my favorite in all of Romania“ The menu is 10-15 pages long. Pork, Lamb Beef, Chicken, Wild Game, traditional soups, appetizers and the list goes on. A surprisingly full wine menu, from the various regions of the country. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We had an AMAZING EXPERIENCE at this restaurant. From the moment you walk into the restaurant you greeted by friendly staff wearing traditional clothes which warmed my heart immediately. The decor at the restaurant takes you back in time. Then came the food! Absolutely amazing. We had salate de vinete, zacuska as an appetizer, the warm bread was probably the best bread we have ever tasted at any the restaurant. Then for the main course my husband had Mitch ( very tender meat) that came with polenta, I had sarmale(soft cabbage leaves with ground meat) were extremely delicious, our kids had “mamaliga cu brinza si smentana”. Everything tasted great. And even though we were full, we didn’t regret getting “papanasi” for dessert-super fresh, soft and not overly sweetened with jam.Our server was super friendly and nice. We had wonderful time at this place, can’t wait to go back and definitely recommend to others.

I have been there many times but lately they went a bit lazy. Food dropped in quality, service is simply bad (nobody noticing us coming in, forgetting about cuttelry, bringing wrong orders, saying the dish is grilled while clearly cooked/reheated in a pan), and they shut the lights off briefly every time they bring a flambé order. Inside the light is a tad bit too dim. Prices do not reflect the service. In other words, if those things don't bother you, by all means, go for it. It's a nice experience, especially for foreign tourists. But if you remember this as a great place, don't revisit.

One of my fav places with great Romanian food in all Romania. Atmosphere on top, with live music, with bears on the walls. Food is very delicious, especially ciorba. Their bread makes you order more and more. Mici are very delicious. But papanasi is something to come here for. Only disappointment is new hotel that is build In front of it and closes beautiful view of the mountains

It is an excellent place for a traditional romanian meal. The service, the food, and the atmosphere are absolutely wonderful. Just make sure you come hungry.

One of the best traditional restaurants I've ever been. Better book table in advance.

This is the most iconic place to eat in Poiana Brasov. I know it for more than 30 years and witness the services during different ownerships. Visited twice in a week in December 2023. Lunch service during weekdays was fast however I find it very very very expensive for the offering. Tasty bean soup, unbalanced cheese and cream corn polenta was my choice. We were surprised being given a whole bread but hey, it came at price. Super expensive price. Same as the snaps (tuica de gutuie) 10€ for 40ml. Yes, i asked for it. The weekend dinner was a mega failure. We booked in advance. Table for 16. We were received by host with traditional music band, carols, snaps and ham; all nice, however ham was un salty while service was rather ad-hoc. Nice caroling choir from students at local university. No introduction nor story telling about the place. The dinner started with long wait time at a table that had chairs bumping into chairs from near by tables. the waiter and supervisor pushed us towards sharing platter for starters. Easy for kitchen but not enough for us. Lots of bread, expensive snaps and imbalance platters. While we order mains, we were told that waiting time was 50min for a fried chicken to share. I had a tasty venison stew just to realize that 90% of it was mushrooms. The red wine we try on manager recommendation was an imbalanced romanian merlot (dradara never tried before) at more than 100€ per bottle. 1 hour into our dinner guests arrived at the table near us; a group of 10 teenagers; they started their conversation loudly using trivial words, breaking glasses and ruining the overall atmosphere in restaurant (Picture this: we had local band music and carols). We asked for manager to assist and we were actually offered to be moved at different table. We were asked not the new comers. At no point the manager or waiters intervened to keep atmosphere as it previously was. We couldn’t even have a normal conversation at our table due to noise. We did not engage at all with neighbor tables. As a result we lost appetite and left the restaurant with unfinished food and drinks. We chose this icon place for Saturday night dinner as it had a special meaning for us. Again, a total failure. The service was pushy old style trying to recommend expensive selection for food and drinks. I feel sad to experience such dinner as this is a place closed to my heart which is ruined by the service under new ownership

Nice, cozy, hunting-themed restaurant with a lot of space to accommodate large events. The staff are kind and helpful, and the food is delicious - I recommend trying the Csorba soup and choosing the Wolf's plate with different types of meat. it was my first time there 33 years ago with my family, and it still remains one of my favourite restaurants.
Amazing place with very tasty traditional food. The atmosphere was great.

Noting that we don't speak other than English, they were very helpful to explain us the ingredients and help us decide what to order. So 5 stars for the hospitality. The food was amazing. Really very good. Considering that it is an outdoor service, they are very well organised and the ambient is so nice.

It's probably just me, but the atmosphere is at times a bit loud. Of course, that's because people are having a lot of fun and the live music is loud and sometimes it's too long. But the food is great, the service good. Overall, a nice experience.

If you want to try Romanian food and more this is the perfect place. The staff is so careful, attentive, the atmosphere is great. The food is amazing, so tasty and the presentation of the food is great. Sura Dacilor is a perfect place to eat if you come to Poiana Brasov. I totally recommend.

Great restaurant, great staff, delicious and well made food in a magnificent place under the snowy mountains of Poiana Braşov which is surrounded by a magical, dense and superb forest! Feeling enchanted straight from the beginning that you step your foot in that place and restaurant!!

Nice restaurant with a huge terrace, great food, a bit understaffed or maybe it was just a crowded day. I definitely recommend it for traditional romanian food.

The best traditional restaurant in Brasov County. Maybe the only one serving hunted meat like boar and dear. The taste is so good, very well prepared and the desert is wonderful. We served a cheese pie with vanilla lemon sauce. I strongly reccommend.

Great food and great service. We came here in extra season, so in full seson( July untill end of February) is full and have to wait to catch a free table. But it is worth the wait!

Amazing place with good food. Pretty good price to food ratio. Overall experience was very good. Service was overall fast with friendly staff.

The food was tasty. The portions however were really small. Even the lemonade was served in the smallest jug I have ever seen (mobile phone for size comparison). Service was really bad, we had to ask several times for things like silverware, salt &pepper, etc. Expensive for what they offer, poor value for money.

Grand Restaurant Brasov offers a great place to have a meal with friends or family. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, and the service is friendly and efficient. They usually host family events, weddings, and other gatherings, but they are also a restaurant - so there's always something going on! The band (URANUS) playing in the background can be hit or miss depending on your taste, but all things considered it's a great spot to celebrate any occasion.
An excellent restaurant with some wonderful and friendly people, with very good food, drinks and wonderful bands, especially the Ardelenii band! It is wonderful to have a place to have fun on Friday and Saturday with family or friends or to celebrate certain events in your life! I warmly recommend this restaurant.

Avoid the location during summer time, no air-conditioning or any ventilation at all. Great for weddings and events, friendly staff and very welcoming 5🌟 for them. Most of the guests staying mostly outside because of no ventilation and no Ac indor, shame...

A festive place for big events, such as weddings. Though there are better places in the city, I can't complain about anything in terms of services.

If you feel like you want to go to a wedding, book a place at the Grand Restaurant on Friday or Saturday and you will have an unforgettable experience.

It's a good place for celebrations. Huge restaurant with large dinning tables and a great dancing area. The food is exactly what you'd expect from a place like this and serving to match. Prices are in the mid-low range, as we were a party of 12, eating and drinking for less than 400 euro, tips included. They usually host family events, weddings and others, but they are a restaurant. There is also a band that plays Romanian and international music coupled with a DJ, not so handy. Honestly I was disappointed with the DJ, but the band (URANUS 😁) is quite OK.
