Daisetsuzan National Park

Mentioned on
National park
The Daisetsuzan National Park spans over 2,267 sq. km and boasts of 16 peaks, a variety of trails, diverse wildlife, and alpine vegetation. The park's five major peaks are approximately 7,560 feet tall and are climbable. The park is known for its beautiful views in every season but visitors should come prepared with proper snow shoes during the winter months when the snow is thick.
One of the best, most rugged national parks in the world. The wind is no joke on the peaks. Bring a windbreaker with a hood for any season. Not a lot of water, so plan ahead! I went in late September and the fall colors were already in full swing. Also the backcountry trails are very steep. If you have knee problems, probably don’t try to summit these mountains. It’s intense on the way back down. But oh so beautiful. My photos don’t come close to capturing it.

Tranquil, rugged, and hard work but it pays off because you'll experience some of the most amazing natural beauty the world has to offer. I hiked to Ansei crater and although it was particularly technical and difficult due to deep snow/terrain it was the most rewarding experience. The views were like nothing I've seen before, including large sulphur deposits. This was a half day hike too. Rental car is recommended for agency in traveling, and of course hiking shoes/boots

Autumn is also a good season to visit Hokkaido. Lovely. I just love it.
Louis Ho Wee Keong — Google review
Great and unique place to ski. Beautiful views also a bonus (when visibility allows in the winter). Primarily supports side and back country skiing. After taking the tram to the top, you can hike or skin around the mtn and further to the top, and reach various types of excellent off piste terrain - both above tree line, glades, as well as tree skiing lower down the mtn. Great place for strong intermediate to expert skiers.

A must visit destination in Hokkaido. very beautiful scenery. Rent a car and drive to this place. Go up to the top with cable car link to watch beautiful landscape.
myap393 — Google review
Was not prepared for the first visit and was having difficulty tracking in the snow. The view was stunning and definitely worth coming back every season. Wear proper snow shoes as the snow is thick.

Never been here but Google insists I have, I just wanted to see how far it was to a location to another attraction (I have added Japan to my bucket list of places to visit). This park does look amazing with spectacular views and amazing wildlife.
Meaghan Edwards — Google review
Came here 9/4. We started hiking right after the first cable car, where many opted to take the second lag as well. It was a nice prep hike, only took us 40 minutes to the 7th station. Then we started hiking to the summit, took us 1 hour 10 minutes total. I read many worrying about hiking boots and hiking sticks. We didn't have any of that and made it to the top and down successfully. The view up at the summit was stunning, with patches of snow. Only thing I would do next time is bringing a thicker jacket. The peak was pretty chilly.

Sahoro Resort Ski Area

I was a beginner and i never had much experience with skate board or surfing. But Hokkaido`s powdered snow made it very eazy for me to learn because each time i fall it felt like falling on a cushing.

Second time visit here. Really enjoyed the powder and blue bird days on the slopes. The only pity is that there is only one gondola and you have to queue for more than 15 minutes and ride another 15 minutes to the top.
yu chiu — Google review
Well groomed slopes. Not too crowded. Nice areas for beginners. Excellent Japanese hospitality. Less challenging than other places. Slow chair lifts and gondola. Some green roads may be difficult for beginners.

Our 4th time here but the worst one ever. Inexpirenced team (except a few long term exceptional ones). Issues pile up one over another. So sad to see such a great resort become so run down with less service mind. The attitudes receptionist and the cleanliness of ofuro (onsen) are the worst of all. Every question you asked, they would make them impossible missions from early check in, half day ski pass to late check out. No policy for the laundry room so people can just leave their clothes in the dryer indefinite. Complains cleanliness of ofuro and lounge areas were not addressed at all. No internal co-ordination. Receptionists often walked away from us when another receptionist came out without any handover of our questions / tasks between them. We had to repeat our questions / asks over and over to get one matter done. The only way to get things done is to speak o the head of house keeping. I don't think we would ever plan to be back to our beloved resort with all of these disturbance to our stay/plan.

Decent little ski resort. Could benefit from some better lifts, the gondola is the only way to the top, and the line can get pretty long. Also they had signs up indicating that the North facing slopes were open (looker's right), but they were definitely closed. We were there on a relatively snow free day, but there was still some powder to be found if you looked for it.

Beautiful slopes n great snow.. Hotel resort staff n employee are excellent. All restaurants still give excellent services, very recommended..I shall come back again.
Yovita Bray — Google review
Epic skiing all over the mountain! If you are wanting fresh lines just make sure you come in the weekend when the top lift is open as the lift accessible backcountry is epic.

Great mountain especially if you like off piste. Lift tickets are a bit expensive but no crowds

Stayed at this free and well maintained campsite in the center of the island of Hokkaido. It had clean bathrooms, running water, and a relaxing atmosphere.

Nice place. Quite a few nice, flat sites. Mine was like a bed of peat moss, very comfy! Two kitchen areas with lights and fire pits surrounded with bricks all over the place. Most of them are grown over, but if you look around for a bit of brick showing, you can find one near most of the sites.

Nice free campground, power. Water, shelter. Nice dude at the gymnasium where you check in. Please do check in, even though it's free anyway, I kind of get the feeling it justifies his position, and he likes talking to somebody.

Free camping. Check-in at the nearby giant grey gym building. Basic facilities. And good mobile phone reception.

(Translated by Google) The plateau is cool even in summer. There is no view between the white birch trees. The facilities are old but well maintained, and it feels like an old-fashioned campsite, so I think experienced campers will have no problems. Since it's a mountain, there isn't much flat land, and the grass at the bottom was in good condition. It is close to the site from the unloading area, and can be used automatically depending on the location.

(Translated by Google) Overall, there are many places that are sloped, but personally, the best location is flat, and of course it will fill up from there. Since it is managed by the town, the facilities are generally clean and can be used free of charge.

Outstanding. The terrace seating overlooking the garden was nice even in drizzly weather. The food was spectacular and the cheese was the highlight. I hope the owners are proud of what they have achieved here. Hokkaido distilled to perfection

Drove 2hrs for this and it was definitely worth it. Was worried that it will be too cheesy. But it turns out just right. Would visit this place again in future

Went to try local cheese in the area. Had the raclette, cheese platter and fromage blanc. Probably wouldn't order the raclette but the cheese platter was delicious, particularly the soft ones and the whey jam was the true winner here.
