Nukabira Gensenkyo Ski Area is situated about 60 km from Obihiro City, serving as the Tokachi-side gateway to Daisetsuzan National Park. The area features the Nukabira Gensenkyo Visitor Center and the Higashitaisetsu Museum of Natural History, both developed to integrate nature activities, environmental conservation, and information dissemination.
Very nice and calm, I enjoyed very much.

My plan was to stay there for 4 days for skiing at the town. But sadly they have a races on my stay (schools ski races), the slopes was not open for publics. So make me need to change my plan and moved to others places to stay. I think they should publish on them official website or office FB page to others people know they will not open for the public.

(Translated by Google) 2024.3.10 Nukabira Genkyo Ski Resort has made its debut. On that day, a junior technical championship was being held. This season, the Tokachi region has light snow and a warm winter, but even though it was around mid-March, it was possible to ski on a wonderful slope here. There is a little less snow than usual, so the bushes are showing in some places, but you can still enjoy it. On this day, the 2024-2025 final test drive event was being held by Parson from Obihiro. I used to work at Sahoro, but this time I got to test drive a different model from next year. It was a happy moment. thank you very much. [The experience of actually skiing at the test drive event will stimulate your desire to purchase!

(Translated by Google) Visited for the first time in several years. Although it had bottomed out, there was still about 20cm of powder left, and this season I was finally able to ski without worrying about scratching my board. Ah, how happy I would be if I could climb two more climbs like I used to... (Original) 数年ぶりに訪問。底づきしてしまいますが20cm位のパウダーも残っていて、今シーズンやっと板の傷付きを心配しないで滑れました。あ~昔のように後2本上れたならばどんなに幸せなことだろうか・・・

(Translated by Google) The other day, I went to Nukabira Ski Resort with my kids for the first time in a few years, and while the 4,000 yen one-day ticket was fine, the 800 yen one-time ticket was way too expensive even though only two lifts were in operation. Isn't there? Even at a certain ski resort, it's only 300 yen. If you are bringing small children with you, you may have a hard time deciding whether to buy a single ticket or a one-day ticket. Great place to stop if you are driving through daitsutzen National park east side. It has movies explaining the main attractions, hiking trails and the history of the old JR train which remains you see all through you drive on road 273. Movies also in English!there is an insect exhibition and also outside you can take a short 30 minutes hike in the woods and soak your feet in a natural hot bath near the onsen area.

It was excellent place for kids and family to learn the nature of that area. The centre is a data base/library of nature and creatures by presenting in graphics and specimens. Very impressive and worth to stay at least an hour or more if time is available.

This is the place you're looking for, if you would like to overview the nature and Ainu culture of eastern part of Daisetsuzan National Park. Here is available to purchase souvenirs related to the local nature. In addition to the local natural information, they provide the remarkable collection of worldwide insects, which fascinated me so much.

Absolutely incredible display of the flora and fauna of Daisetsuzan National Park along with multimedia in Japanese and English. They also had an enormous collection of beetles and butterflies from around the world.

Friendly, informative staff. Nice clean facility with clean modern restrooms, including a fully equipped handicap restroom. There is a wide variety of information about the wildlife, history and geography of the area, in English as well as Japanese. It's a really nice place to stop and rest, and there are rotating displays that keep it interesting even after many visits.

National park
The Daisetsuzan National Park spans over 2,267 sq. km and boasts of 16 peaks, a variety of trails, diverse wildlife, and alpine vegetation. The park's five major peaks are approximately 7,560 feet tall and are climbable. The park is known for its beautiful views in every season but visitors should come prepared with proper snow shoes during the winter months when the snow is thick.
One of the best, most rugged national parks in the world. The wind is no joke on the peaks. Bring a windbreaker with a hood for any season. Not a lot of water, so plan ahead! I went in late September and the fall colors were already in full swing. Also the backcountry trails are very steep. If you have knee problems, probably don’t try to summit these mountains. It’s intense on the way back down. But oh so beautiful. My photos don’t come close to capturing it.

Tranquil, rugged, and hard work but it pays off because you'll experience some of the most amazing natural beauty the world has to offer. I hiked to Ansei crater and although it was particularly technical and difficult due to deep snow/terrain it was the most rewarding experience. The views were like nothing I've seen before, including large sulphur deposits. This was a half day hike too. Rental car is recommended for agency in traveling, and of course hiking shoes/boots

Autumn is also a good season to visit Hokkaido. Lovely. I just love it.
Louis Ho Wee Keong — Google review
Great and unique place to ski. Beautiful views also a bonus (when visibility allows in the winter). Primarily supports side and back country skiing. After taking the tram to the top, you can hike or skin around the mtn and further to the top, and reach various types of excellent off piste terrain - both above tree line, glades, as well as tree skiing lower down the mtn. Great place for strong intermediate to expert skiers.

A must visit destination in Hokkaido. very beautiful scenery. Rent a car and drive to this place. Go up to the top with cable car link to watch beautiful landscape.

Was not prepared for the first visit and was having difficulty tracking in the snow. The view was stunning and definitely worth coming back every season. Wear proper snow shoes as the snow is thick.

Never been here but Google insists I have, I just wanted to see how far it was to a location to another attraction (I have added Japan to my bucket list of places to visit). This park does look amazing with spectacular views and amazing wildlife.
Meaghan Edwards — Google review
Came here 9/4. We started hiking right after the first cable car, where many opted to take the second lag as well. It was a nice prep hike, only took us 40 minutes to the 7th station. Then we started hiking to the summit, took us 1 hour 10 minutes total. I read many worrying about hiking boots and hiking sticks. We didn't have any of that and made it to the top and down successfully. The view up at the summit was stunning, with patches of snow. Only thing I would do next time is bringing a thicker jacket. The peak was pretty chilly.

Bodies of Water
Nestled amidst towering mountains, Lake Shikaribetsu is a picturesque destination offering a range of activities. In winter, it transforms into an enchanting ice village and becomes a hub for snowmobiling. With a circumference of 16 kilometers and surrounded by forests and high mountains, the lake boasts a mystical ambiance. Families with young children can delight in encounters with various wildlife while adults can immerse themselves in the serene atmosphere.
Passed by this lake while driving through to Taushubestu River Bridge and was not disappointed. Was pleasantly surprised to see such a wonderful and beautiful lake that I have to stop and admire the view.

Lake Shikaribetsu is a beautiful high altitude natural lake. It’s protected so there is no development except for the onsen and a campground. The lake water is clear and the mountains rise up in all directions.

Nice place to stay in and out of the city.We went here during winter festival.

I don't imagine to go there by my Honda Fit, not 4WD, just FF. If weather is fine, you can access here easily by car. I went there in the begining of February. It is mid-winter in Hkkaido. Lake Shikaribetsu has a snow and ice festival in this time. You can stay in the ice hotel and enjoy ice bar on the lake. Also they have a hot spa on the lake. Tkis is the really special hot spa you can enjoy only in this period. That's a terrific experience you'll ever have.

Highly recommended for family with small kids. Kids can enjoy delightful encounters with natural creatures like fox, chipmunks, crayfish, ducks, and so many insects while adults can submerge themselves into the soul-cleansing atmosphere. Unfortunately, we went there on a cloudy/rainy day and couldn't see the stars at night. But it is known to be one of the best places in Hokkaido for the star watching. We had a lunch at the restaurant called Lake View in the Fusui (風水) Hotel. Food was good, and it also offered a stunning view of the lake. We could buy a discount ticket for both lunch and onsen (hot spring bath) at the hotel. The onsen had the rotenburo (open-air bath tub) where we could see the whole lake. Totally recommended. We will visit the lake again for canoeing and trekking soon.

Naitai Highland Farm offers a peaceful outdoor experience with stunning views of grassy hills and scattered rocks. It's an ideal place to unwind and soak in the natural beauty away from the city's hustle and bustle. Visitors can enjoy a nice meal at a nearby restaurant or grab a snack. The area is also known for its picturesque road, perfect for motorcycle tours with its scenic curves. Additionally, there's a charming cafe lodge where visitors can relax while enjoying coffee or ice cream.
Wow. If you are looking for a peaceful outdoor experience unmarred by the hustle and bustle of civilization and breath taking views, This is the place. Grassy hills and random rocks litter the area and is a nice way to stretch the legs and take in the scenery. If you are hungry, or craving a small snack, a restaurant sells lunch items near by. Food is great anywhere you go when in japan so i wouldn't fret on what to get. It's all good. I recommend getting the chocolate and vanilla mixed soft serve and potato fries.
