Shiogama Shrine is a hilltop shrine with a tree-lined stairway offering sweeping bay views and spring cherry trees. Located near Sendai city, it's easily accessible from downtown Sendai, just a 30-minute train ride away. The shrine boasts a history of over 120 years and is surrounded by cherry trees, making it a popular hanami spot.
Beautiful, Peaceful, Serene, Magnificent Shinto Shrine ! -40 min drive from Sendai Station (a lot of places to stop by on the way to shrine). -Parking available but google navigation can be a bit misleading for parking spot, so please navigate and be careful. -Beautiful view of bay from the shrine. -Entrance is free and shrine is open everyday. -About 200 steps to the main compound! -Coffee Cafe outside the shrine! I visited here on 3rd May 2021 during my Golden Week Holidays! If you want to collect stamp book (Gosyuin), please say "Gosyuin Kudasai". I got mine here! I went again on 11 Dec 2021! Stay Safe and happy, Wish you a Happy Visit! -Love Happy

Remarkable and historical Shiogama boasts a history of over 120years , it was said to have been the first shrine built in the Tohuku region. A very nice environment, calm and beautiful scenery. Recommended to have a visit.
YF Tham — Google review
If you're going there by car in winter time, make sure to fit car with winter tires, parking area sometimes gets full and you have to park uphill and to go there it's narrow slippery uphill road covered with snow and ice. If you don't have experience to handle such road, don't challenge it there.

A serene and tranquillize shrine in the heart of Shiogama city. It is not crowded so you can enjoy the nature as well.

Temple atmosphere itself gives us high energy. I love to go there again. A well maintaind temple with full of lush greenery and located in a hill. Has a very steep stairs from oneside and accessible by car from the other side too. Area is big and can walk for hr or two. Beautiful matsuhima islands also can be seen and its very nice as i went there near sunset time.
Chamila Niroshinie — Google review
Located in a very lush and green area, the temple is well maintained and beautifully decorated. I went to visit early morning and there were almost no people aside from a few on a morning stroll or doing morning gymnastics. The temple is clean and open, and there are public restrooms on the hilltop should it be needed. I don’t know how crowded it might be during the day, but I got to enjoy the holy site in silence :))

Beautiful, beautiful shrine. I really enjoyed it. One entrance makes you go up a lot of stairs, and the other doesn't.
Sophie Solioz — Google review
Worth coming to have a look if you're in Shiogama, but wouldn't come out of your way to see it or anything. Just another one of Japan's many shrines, and like most of them the area is pretty with some nice well maintained gardens and historical building and structures. Entry is free. The stairs that take you up here get the heart pumping, just as a fair warning.
Shane Fakelastname — Google review
This shrine is truly a special place that must be visited. Do yourself a favour and plan your trip during spring so that you can see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. We were lucky to see some late snow which added even more beauty to the experience. Take the time to walk the long steps and take in the natural serenity of the gardens and surrounds.

Beautiful place and there’s lots you can see here. I recommend going in spring since you get to see the cherry blossoms.

Tohoku History Museum is a modern facility showcasing artifacts extracted from local sites, along with an Edo-era farmhouse. It's an excellent destination for history enthusiasts who can borrow the free English audio guide to learn about Japan's history from prehistoric times to contemporary era. The museum is conveniently located next to Tagajo Station and offers reasonable entrance fees.
Amazing place if you are a history buff. I absolutely loved it! You can borrow the English audio guide for free and learn in detail about the history of Japan from the stone age to the modern era. Easy access from Sendai Station because the museum is just next to the Tagajo Station. The entrance fee is quite reasonable too. Staffs are friendly and helpful.

An impressive building with a good exhibition area. It lacks the wow factor for a five star rating but is worth a visit. I imagine that one to two hours is sufficient to see everything. Outside are some relocated historic buildings which are very good.
Marcus Wallis — Google review
The museum is surrounded by sakura trees and a little lake. It is also next to a nature and historical trail so it's a good place for leisurely, educational, historical...you get the drift. Come here for coffee and ice cream while overlooking the scenery.
Heidi Ng — Google review
Excellent museum! All main exhibits about yhe History of Tohoku are in multiple languages (including english) Special exhibitions are typically only in Japanese. Highly recommend taking an hour or two and visiting while you're in the area!
Mike Lickers — Google review
Great little museum at a good price! Most of the displays had English translations which is great for forign visitors like myself. There's also a really neat outside area with a few old school style buildings. There was a man who worked there tending a fire in that area who spoke with me. Even though I don't spreak much Japanese he was very patient and kind to me, which I really appreciated.
Brennan Dougherty — Google review
This is actually quiet a beautiful museum. I has a complete package of museum, a garden, an old traditional house, library, children corner. Although not seems to be recommended probably due to many better spot surrounding it such as matsushima, this museum in my opinion deserves a visit, especially if you like history stuffs.
Anung Riapanitra — Google review
The main exhibit is pretty good; the Lascaux Caves exhibit was kind of weak - not much explanation and they fluffed it up with quite a bit of filler.

This is gives very welcoming feeling and spacious library. Environment is very calm and peaceful. Can select books easily. The starbucks in the side is an added advantage. Really love to go there again and again. Has quite English books too.

(Translated by Google) This library is definitely not ordinary. First of all, there is a green terrace surrounded by shrubbery next to the entrance, and even though it is outdoors, there are terrace seats. What's more, the wall that separates the terrace from the inside is made of huge glass that extends from the third floor. Can you see the interior from the station exit? At first glance from the outside, it was hard to believe that this was a city library. Now, what is even more impressive when you enter from the entrance is the atrium wall itself, which stretches from the first floor to the third floor on the left, and is approximately 20 meters deep. It's probably a huge bookshelf. On the right hand side, there was a huge space with a glass wall that was three stories high and was used as a spacious cafe ``Starbucks'' space, and it was quite crowded with people working and chatting. Furthermore, another aspect of this building is the space on the first floor in front of the entrance for the bookstore ``Tsutaya Shoten,'' which sells paperback books, comics, magazines, picture books, and more. Masu. This was my first time visiting this place, and it made me feel like I wanted to move to this city.

Environment is perfect for the readers but English literature content is very countable. However, it provides me the absolute pleasure of reading....

I absolutely love this place. The library has very cool architecture that features lots of sunlight areas and book-filled-cabinet alleys. It also has DVD store, cafe and a restaurant. I would definitely visit this library more often if it weren't so far away from where I live in Sendai.

Just out the exit from Tagajo station on the Senseki line, you'll find a posh-looking new building. Three-story high glass windows cover half of the building, completementing the mostly solid structure of the other half. This could be a church, a bank, or a any of a number of other private institutions. Instead, the sign to the upper left of the face of the building reads Tagajo City Library. Inside on the first level, a Starbucks and a book store await the caffiene-starved, book-hungry patron. The open air of the lobby reveals not only the easily accessible elevator but also the business side of the second floor, Tsutaya. The national video rental chain has open a store in a prominent spot in the library, with great new titles on display and visable even from a distance. A great place for kids, this building boasts two different child-oriented spaces, including a two-story play structure indoors, at the back of the children's book section. In addition, a short walk away, you'll find a separately carpeted area for smaller kids featuring big picture books as well as smaller books with simple vocabulary for the developing mind. The children's book section alone carries over 30,000 titles for kids to enjoy, according to the Tagajo City Library website. The foreign books section seems to be at the back of the third floor study area, but if you have come with small children, be warned. Unless your children are especially quiet when you enter this area, the employees of the library will come to you not to provide assistance but instead insistence that you leave the purely silent room. Open from 9:30 AM to 9 PM, the Tagajo City Library is the place to read, relax or study.

(Translated by Google) In addition to being adjacent to Tagajo Station, there is also a parking lot nearby, and parking is free for 2 hours if you use the facility. It's easy to search for books, so if you're a frequent library user, you'll find it comfortable. Inside the building? There is also a Tsutaya and a restaurant where you can eat. The learning corner is also relatively large and full on Saturdays and Sundays. I don't know about the reservation system as I haven't used it. There is also a kids corner on the first floor, but it doesn't feel noisy, probably because it's spacious. I thought it was a good facility with enough facilities to spend time reading a book or drinking coffee, and I could feel that they were considerate of the users.

The atmosphere isn't bad. But I don't understand why the staff tried to exclude foreigner who came and study there but not Japanese who did the same thing? I don't mind if it's the rules that we can't study there which 'EVERYONE' must follow but why you use 2 standard??? And at that time there wasn't much people too.
