Located on the same street is Avenue Bistro, an eatery that offers cuisine with a Mediterranean twist. Alternatively, you can opt for Pier One, a fish bar situated nearby. If you're craving North African-inspired dishes, The Hungry Bedouin is worth a visit. For those who prefer fine Indian cuisine, the British India Restaurant is highly recommended.
Sophisticated and beautiful food, wine and design. My husband the foodie is incredibly particular when it comes to food, wine & cheese boards (whereas if I'm hungry please just feed me vegetables and comfort food, preferably in a calming beautifully designed setting). If he's not at London's most exclusive restaurants he's here, and we love it

It's a very peaceful place to go. Looking at the menu looked a bit pricey. However, the food quality was really good and it was worth it. Everything was delicious, portions were good size, waiting time was perfect, and Mollie (waiter) was lovely. Very much looking forward to coming back. We had two starters, two mains and two beers and it was about £70.

Pleasantly surprised by this place. Food portions larger than anticipated. It was very delicious. Staff were lovely. And it has a nice ambience. They have lots of regular customers. They have child seats but I didn’t see any baby changing facilities. The ladies/disabled toilet is large enough to put a pushchair in…

What a beautiful restaurant with superior staff that make you feel so welcome. So attentive and never left without anything. Food is flawless and never had a bad experience in over a year of visiting regularly.

Went with friends for Sunday Roast approx three years ago all round. Booked in advance for four as we sat down table next to us we’re just being served their roast dinners. I remarked to my friend how the roast potatoes these people had on their plate looked more white than anything else. Ours came out looked like white with a brown stripe running down them as if been under the grill. The Yorkshire puddings were shop bought as all looked as if from the same mould such was the shape identical. Worst was the bowl they deserved deserts in came out and the vegetables it contained for four was disgraceful. One Cauliflower head approx twelve green beans and some carrots I asked where the peas were as phoned in advance as one friend only eats peas and was told peas always served. Was told we can do you peas friend said not too worry felt she was embarrassed by having to ask. Personally think no doubt wanted to charge for peas as an extra. All they did not serve us with was raffle tickets in order to see who got what from the dismal bowl of vegetables they bought out. Would have thought in a high end restaurant which they think they are with four people there would be four of each vegetable in the bowl so customers would not have to hope they got the winning ticket in order to get the vegetables they liked. Did complain have never been back nor would we disgraceful. Like so many all greed less they serve more they save.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Avenue Bistro. The service from the team were outstanding - they are super professional, friendly and so kind to our dog (they immediately brought over a water bowl as we sat down). They're dog friendly both inside and outside, which surprised us as the restaurant decor is beautiful. The food was so delicious and were generous portions. We were sad they only took cash tip and we didn't have any cash on us - I've never wanted to give a tip so much in my life! We'll definitely visit again and be sure to have cash tip on us next time!

Lovely family meal out with 3 generations. We all had food we liked, from burgers to seabass, kebabs (proper!) to steak. Can't recall a place before where I liked every single dessert. Lovely staff, and very helpful and attentive.

Excellent Sunday roasts. Food is good, staff friendly. I asked a mixed roasts which was not on the menu but they took the trouble to make it happen for me. The restaurant is bright and open with a modern touch. Parking freely available on the streets. Food 8.5/10, ambience 8.5/10, service 8.5/10, value for money 8/10. A real gem!

We had a lovely meal at the Avenue Bistro on Saturday evening, there were 11 of us in our family party and everything went very smoothly. The food and the service was great and we would definitely go there again.

We booked a table, quite last minute, but they were able to accommodate us. We were welcomed by someone as soon as we arrived and given a choice of table. The atmosphere was lovely, clearly a very popular restaurant. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was excellent. You definitely get what you pay for and it was worth every penny. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

This restaurant has a lovely bright and airy atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and were extremely helpful when asked about their gluten free options. The food was beyond perfect and the portions were incredibly generous. We will definitely return.

Visited with three friends on a Friday lunch time whilst we were out on a motorbike ride. We hadn’t booked but the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, found us a table to sit and somewhere for our helmets and stuff to go despite being full of customers. Food was fantastic and really made our day. Will definitely be back. Thank you!

On my initial visit to The Lock & Barrel, I was pleasantly taken aback. The interior of the establishment is quite spacious and roomy, featuring a delightful beer garden at the rear that basks in sunlight. Two gentlemen were overseeing operations and provided some of the finest service I have encountered in quite some time. They were incredibly hospitable, amiable, and attentive. The prices for their food offerings were very reasonable and the portions ample, while also being delectable and artfully presented.
Called in today after a lovely day on the pier. Food was absolutely lovely, can't beat quality homemade food and staff were great. Still can't move nearly 3 hours after eating. Definitely visit this place if your in the area

Friendly atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating and an ok selection of beer. Opted for the smoked haddock. Was ok, but poor plating and tired looking veggies made me give this a 3 star rating rather than a 4. Would return but try something different.

First time in this pub. I just popped in for a quick lunch. The welcome was very friendly from all the team and they took my order and poured my drink super quickly. The food arrived quickly and was very nicely presented. It tasted great too. I had the mushroom Stroganoff and I'd definitely recommend it. If you are passing this way you you give this place a try.

Was tempted to go here for lunch after seeing the online menu to try a crusty baguette 🥖 with chips & salad. Arrived to discover its now under new ownership & that's no longer available. Had a small plate Ham, Egg & chips but be warned the small plate is very small, probably more child size & one of the smallest small plates I've had before. The ham was lovely but only half a slice? Staff all very pleasant and location is good too. Prices reasonable compared to similar venues like this. We'd visit again but they need to update this website & menu on there.

Popped into The Lock & Barrel before going for a Curry next door, great service from a lovely couple of younger people. We were looking at the unusual wording on the ceiling, which the young lady explained was the name of the original shop on this site. Would highly recommend and we'll be going back. 👍

First time visiting this pub and was really pleasantly surprised. The inside is very big and spacious with a sun trap beer garden at the back. Two gents working and had some of the best service I've experienced in a long time. Very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Food was very reasonably priced, big portions, tasty and well presented. Will definitely be coming back and reccomending to friends.

I went with my family last week. The pub was fairly quiet and we were a table of 6 adults and some kids. The girls at the bar were lovely, quick drinks and good coffee. However after waiting over an hour for food, we were told the kitchen was just about to start cooking it. We couldn't wait any longer so paid for our drinks and went to greggs instead. The lovely ladies on the bar were so apologetic but there was clearly some sort of issue with the kitchen as we were not the only ones in there to take our custom elsewhere. Such a shame.

Very very poor food. it was the bank holiday, sign outside read carvery . Went inside sat down waited a long time before seen. Now the best bit . dryed out meat, very limited veg, no carrots , and you are not allowed to severe yourself ??? Will never return and would not recommend.

We had 2 ploughman’s lunches here. The onions were in a pot of water and no pickles. Just lettuce bread cheese ham. Very poor value for money. Don’t think we will eat there again. Had a portion of thick chips which was very tasty.

Excellent pub in the heart of Frinton, friendly staff and the lamb burgers on the specials menu were excellent. We felt the price of £13.50 each was really good value especially as the lamb burger came with chips / onion rings / slaw & salsa dips / bacon / cheese / pickles / tomatoes / gerkins

Wow! The food here is excellent 👌 Garlic King prawns and a portion of fries were our sharing lunch. So tasty and at a very reasonable price. The bread and balsamic/oil dip was a lovely added bonus. Thoroughly enjoyed, we will return!

This was my initial visit to Pier One and it certainly won't be my last. I went with a friend who follows a vegan diet, and he was extremely pleased with the options available. While the prices were a bit on the expensive side, the exceptional service more than made up for it. The staff were all young, lively, eager to assist, and incredibly friendly. The chefs were also approachable and skilled at their craft.
Absolutely outstanding service from walking in the door. We had two dogs with us who were given just as much of a welcoming and attention. They liked the free sausage too. We had fish and chips which was excellent and I highly recommend the haloumi fries. Can't wait to dine here again! Thanks!!

Pier one is fine. The haddock and chips I had well very well cooked, and was enjoyable. Very limited drinks selection, and as we were eating outside, it would have been better if a screen were to be put up between tables and pavement (as in photo). Otherwise a fun eat!

This is a very dog friendly restaurant, the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The food is good with a variety of food on the menu which should suit most people. There is plenty of parking nearby, and the town is friendly and vibrant.

This is the 2nd dine in experience, and have had several takeaways from here. Each time all the food has been excellent. However just wanted too too give some praise to Louis/Lewis. He has served us on every occasion, and can’t speak highly enough of this young man. So polite, so professional and impeccable manners during service. Well done though both the young waiters, excellent service
Michael Vickers — Google review
I don’t normally leave negative reviews, usually just move on and chalk up to experience. Today however was hands down the worst fish and chips ever. My wife had cod and chips. The batter was mostly an undercooked mess the skin almost raw. When I took a bite out of my steak and ale pie, the first chunk of meat was stone cold whilst others were Luke warm. We threw almost our entire meal in the bin outside. More than £20 wasted which we could I’ll afford but had decided to treat ourselves. ------------ *update* Thank you for your reply. I was kind of expecting a terse reply having since read your responses to other complaints. The reason I don't usually leave negative reviews and the reason why we didn't complain on the day is that we are not keen on confrontation. I am not sure that the way you respond really helps your case though. In the first instance, criticising the way in which people choose to complain (as you have with other reviewers too) does not magically invalidate their negative experience at your establishment. Secondly, had I seen the responses you have left for others, It would have actually reinforced a negative opinion of your restaurant rather than have encouraged me to give you a go. Had I seen a positive and open response to criticisms, showing genuine concern, I would not be deterred from coming and would give the benefit of the doubt. The fact that you do not respond at all to positive reviews and only aggressively to negative ones might suggest a lack of concern for your customers.

We were very pleasantly surprised to have found this lovely restaurant on Connaught Avenue in Frinton on Sea. The blackened cajun salmon was really well flavored. I would definitely recommend the chicken milanese too. Desserts were scrumptious. Service was really good, the waiter took his time to answer some questions we had with the menu as we were quite indecisive as to what to order, there was so much choice. Nice and clean. Inviting atmosphere. The owners were really lovely and friendly, took time to have a chat with us. We will definitely return.

We went for lunch with our dog who was completely spoiled rotten with treats, fish, sausages and a puppachino. The food was lovely and really reasonably priced and the staff were lovely. Cannot recommend enough.

This was my first visit to Pier and will not be be my last My Partner and I were accompanied by our friend who is a Vegan. He was over the moon with the Choice available to him. I had the Whitebait to start followed by Muscles Both of which were delicious.. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient. He went out of his way to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Really a great place

So pleased I popped in after speaking to someone. Gluten free fish and chips cooked every day. Light and crispy batter good size piece of fish and not too many chips. Perfect to complete my seaside visit eating on a bench on the front.

Slightly on the high side (at least for my pockets). The service ice made up for it though, everyone young, vibrant, eager to help and very friendly. Chefs were approachable too and sound as a pound. Will return and be more adventurous when ordering. Great to snack. Brilliant main courses options. I saw gluten free and vegan options. Welcomed well behaved dogs.our were a bit mischievous yet they still smiled. Just a nice place. I’d even go drink when record shopping near by!!!

Gluten free fish and chips! Prior to finding this restaurant/takeaway we went to ‘young others plaice’ around the corner to be told they only sell gluten free fish and chips on Fridays which is disappointing! However it was the best thing that could have happened as we then stumbled upon this place! So so fresh piping hot, service was amazing and portions were very generous!

Great place for lunch. Fish was incredibly fresh, staff were attentive and friendly. I had the Scampi which was very succulent. Food came out at a good pace, drinks were delivered immediately. My Peroni had no head on it but tasted good. N.B. no high chairs for kids

"The Hat and The Mouse" is a highly praised restaurant that offers amazing food prepared by a skilled and passionate chef. The place is known for its hand-made desserts, friendly service, and reasonable prices. Customers appreciate the quaint premises and the delicious, carefully packaged takeaway options. The breakfast menu is also popular among visitors who enjoy the tasteful decor with little wooden mice as part of the ambiance.
Very friendly, great service, good food, good portions. We both really enjoyed breakfast this morning. I love the decor, very tasteful and love all the little wooden mice. Highly recommend.

I visited to see my elderly father but was disappointed in the service provided. Squashed in and patronised with no understanding of my 85 year old father's mobility and no toilet facilities. We were told to use the public toilets some distance away. I would not have booked if this was known. Food mediocre and expensive. Not worth the 90 min train journey.

My parents rave about this place, so I went with them today. Food is amazingly good! Chef is seriously skilled & passionate about his food; he even runs classes to teach other budding chefs. Even the desserts were hand made and utterly delicious. If I had another stomach i would order again. Great friendly service from the ladies employed there. Premises are small but quaint and prices were very reasonable for the quality and flavour of the dishes served up. I will be visiting again as soon as I can!

I have had multiple takeout meals from British India, a restaurant in Frinton, and the food has consistently been delicious. The portions are generous and they use fresh ingredients. The service provided by the staff is exceptional; they are welcoming, friendly, and great to talk to while waiting for your order. As an independent business, British India contributes to making Frinton awesome.
Beautiful food, great service, friendly staff, reasonably priced, would definitely return and recommend. In the photo is a chicken tikka main, mushroom rice and mushroom bhaji 👌

One of the worst restaurant experiences ever. First, the waiter somehow forgot that we ordered starters. We've waited for an hour and only after asking again they realized they forgot us. He also forgot to bring us napkins and when he did after finishing the starters, mine was dirty. I ordered a simple dish, it was a chicken omelette with fries and peas. I never thought peas could be screwed up. See also picture... I think they were left for years in a freezer and then heated up in the microwave. At least it's how they looked like. Just disgusting. The omelet was dry and also the fries were squishy like they were heated in an oven.

Came to try after reading other reviews. Food was very nice and decent portions however won’t be returning to dine in as the room we was put in was so dark we had to use the torches on our phones to read the menu. No social interaction or friendly greeting We felt we were shoved in a corner and basically forgotten about. Took ages to get a drink ordered and then we had to ask to order our food and there was no offer of further drinks.

Visited last night with my partner. We were both really impressed with the experience from start to finish. We were welcomed by a friendly faced gentleman who took us to our table, which was lovely and clean with some well presented origami napkins. We ordered drinks, starters, mains, sides, and dessert. Everything was cooked perfectly, meats were tender and of good quality. The taste and aroma of the foods were beautiful. The dessert was coconut ice cream topped with a cherry in half of a coconut shell, which was a nice touch. On our visit, the establishment was clean and tidy with friendly and welcoming staff who had great knowledge and recommended some wonderful dishes. All in all 5 star experience. We will be back soon for sure. Thank you to all at British India who made our evening nothing short of wonderful 😊 I must add that the prices are great, I was very surprised to see we spent under £50 considering we both had drinks, starters, main, sides and dessert.

We have had several meals from British India and the standard of food has been consistently very high and deliveries reliable. The only problem is their use of plastic takeaway containers. I wish they would consider the environment and use non-plastic containers for the sake of the future.
