Lake
Lake Toya is a well-known destination for tourists, featuring a caldera lake with picturesque islands and hot springs. It serves as the main hub for sightseeing in the area and can be accessed by taking four daily buses from JR Sapporo Station, although phone reservations are required. Alternatively, visitors may take the Super Hokuto train to JR Toya Station before using a bus to reach Lake ToyaHot Spring.
Toya Lake is the place that you can enjoy many onsen or hotel which located next of the Lake. So, if you stay there even for one night you will see amazing scenery in nearby. You also can go to a little island located in the middle of Lake by Cruise 🚢 there. If you plan to enjoy this place in Summer, I highly recommend trying all of summer activities like Kayak, Canoe 🛶 etc. Then for complete your holiday don’t forget to ride a cruise 🚢 when the dark comes up. There is fireworks 💥 event that held every day in summer time until October around 8:45 PM for 20 minutes. The fireworks 💥 doesn’t comes out from the land but from boat 🚣‍♀️ in the middle of Lake. Then the boat will be moved every some minutes to another places Or go to front another hotel. Make sure to ride the cruise if you want to enjoy as long as fire up.

We decided to stop at Toya during our trip from Sapporo to Hakodate. Toya is around 2 hours from Sapporo. From Toya Station, we took the bus to Lake Toya, you can purchased the return bus ticket inside the train station. We got off at the Lake Toya Tourism Centre, and the lake is just in front of the building. The scenery is beautiful and serene. Great food and views and fabulous onsen everywhere a nice place to visit when you are in Hokkaido.
Riris Purba — Google review
Very nice view and there is a super chill vibe over there. You can enjoy the free footbath or also stay in the onsen hotel for relaxing experience. During winter time there is nothing much to do but summer time you can trekking and cycling around the lake. Summer time they also have a 20 to 25 mins fireworks daily. You can enjoy the fireworks and onsen together or maybe to join their fireworks night cruise.

Beautiful lake with the serene clear water. So clear, you can see the fishes! Absolute must visit if you are in Hokkaido.

Mesmerized with the picturesque view - never miss the opportunity to explore Lake Toya if you are visiting Hokkaido.

Good place to visit. View will be spectacular particularly on a clear day. Mt Yutoi which is Mt Fuji of Hokkaido , can be seen from here. At the middle of the lake Nakajima islands is there and can be accessed by boat to visit one musium. Nearby another mountain named Mt Usu and Showa shinzan one can visit. Mt Usu have its ropeway and from the mountain summit Lake Toya, Mt Showa shinzan can be visible.

Lovely scenery spot. Interesting and very large lake at Hokkaido. Its never froze and has become tourists spot because of their unique

Such a beautiful, mesmerizing, and a dreamy huge lake in Hokkaido! Interestingly, Lake Toya was formed approximately 110,000 years ago during a volcanic eruption. The lake and its surroundings were so peaceful and tranquil. It is a perfect place for anyone who is looking for a relaxing and quiet vacation. There are also hotels and resorts around the lake with balcony views facing this picturesque lake. Highly recommended to spend a night or two around Lake Toya to enjoy the beautiful nature of this place.

Very pleasant stay. Room amenities adequate. Superb location. One negative comment is there is no bar where one can enjoy the most beautiful scenery over a drink.

STAY AWAY around 1st of November, the amount of flies were crazy I had around 20-30 stuck to me trying to get this picture. I could tell the scenery was actually nice though, if it was more sunny and no flies would be great, although at this time you cannot even get close to the lake Took the loss on my hotel and just went back to sapporo, it was that bad.

Beautiful lake but difficult to travel You have to take a bus from toya st. to toyako onsen st. Lake is very huge . You cannot walk around but can rent a car or bicycle
Graphic Phic — Google review
Pit stop along the way to sapporo during winter in feb. The lake is so vast and amazing with a small island in the center. This lake doesnt freeze over during winter. There is a rope way to the top and a free visitor center of sorts to view the history of this area. In the town there is also a bear zoo to view the bears. Overall a good stop over for photos and a lunch break.

There are many inns where you can see Lake Toya from the open-air bath, so it is recommended to stay at one of these. Long-run fireworks displays are held every day from May to Oct in the Toyako Onsen Hot Spring town area. Lake Toya where Popular resort area centered on a caldera lake with islands, boat tours & hot-spring baths. Stay at Zekkei No Yuyado Toya Kohantei to get spectacular view of Toya Lake. Enjoy during the Spring 6 May where the 42th Long Run Fireworks Festival, a large flowered fireworks come out in the sky of Lake Toya for 20 minutes from 20.45 to 21.05

Mount Usu is an active volcano standing at 2,405 feet high and offers a pedestrian walkway to a lookout point with breathtaking views. It is located near the serene onsen town of Toyako Onsen, which boasts an abundance of hotels and traditional inns. Visitors can relax in geothermal pools while enjoying stunning views of Lake Toya. The area around Lake Toya features numerous hot spring facilities, making it one of the most extensive hot spring resorts in Hokkaido.
One of scenic spots and an active volcano in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Hokkaido, Japan. Nearby there is Lake Toya. You could go to Mount Usu Summit Station using a ropeway (a ticket required - adult is 1600 yen and children is 800 yen). During the winter, the ropeway stops one hour earlier. On the summit you can overlook the underlying beautiful Lake Toya. There is Mount Usu Terrace which sells hot drinks which is perfect for the weather

The trail is a good hike, just be prepared for the parking costs and the buses of tourists in the autumn season. Hiking the other side of the mountains is also great and gives you a great chance to see the power of the 2000 earthquake on the houses and roads the passed through the area. There is free parking available on the western side.

After all the great food in Hokkaido, it's good to take a day out for hiking around mount Usu, the active volcano at lake Toya. The walk usually is about half a day and if you are lucky, you can see steam coming out from the mountain. 🚶
张TakWAI — Google review
Even from far distance you can see the steam coming out from all direction at the Gunnima crater, it is a sight to behold. We went up by cable car so we only went half way down the trail as it leads to the sea side, which is the opposite side to Lake Toya. I suggest others to take the cable car up one way and hike down. Those stairs are relentless as you can see from the photos.
Carnivore HK — Google review
We've been here in mid-september 2017. We took the cable car to mount Usu and watched lake Toya and Showa-shinzan from the first viewing platform. From the second viewing platform you can see the summit of mount Usu. From there we took a short hike along the rim of the crater. The walk was absolutely beautiful and the smoking mounting is seen all along the way. From the end of the trail you can also see the stunning view of southern Hokkaido across the bay. Allocate 2-3 hours for the entire trip.

Nakajima Island, the largest island in Lake Toya, is a popular stop for sightseeing boats. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along well-marked paths and explore attractions such as a small museum, shrine, and a cozy coffee shop that also serves snacks for lunch. The island is known for its tranquil atmosphere and beautiful scenery, offering opportunities to enjoy forest bathing in the vast pine forest and breathe in the fresh air while taking in the lush greenery.

Sobetsu Waterfall Parking Lot is a bit of a hidden spot located on the southern edge of Lake Toya. The parking lot offers free parking and is situated near Sobetsu Falls, providing an opportunity to capture some stunning photographs.

(Translated by Google) 2023.8 I used the parking lot to photograph Sobetsu Falls. The location is difficult to find. According to Google Maps, if you go south from Lake Toya and go downhill, turn sharply to the left at this intersection. There is a building in the photo (apple sign) on the left side of the intersection, so turn around the building. After completing the turn and driving along the riverside road for a few dozen meters, you will see the information board for Sobetsu Falls on the river side on your left, so on the opposite side you will find a slightly larger parking lot with space for 5 to 6 cars. There are no restrooms, so be sure to use them in advance.

In front of the narrow path, there is a Takinomachi bus stop, a clock with a sign saying ``Sobetsu Falls Entrance,'' and a public toilet with an apple symbol.
