Arakawa

Arakawa is a special ward in the Tokyo Metropolis in Japan. The ward takes its name from the Arakawa River, though the river does not run through or touch the ward. Its neighbors are the wards of Adachi, Kita, Bunkyo, Taito and Sumida. In English, the ward calls itself Arakawa City. Wikipedia.

Fabric store
Sights & Landmarks
Nippori Fabric Town is a bustling area along Nippori Central Street, featuring numerous stores offering a wide range of fabrics, buttons, and sewing supplies. Situated near Nippori Station on the JR Yamanote Line, this textile district boasts over 80 fabric stores spanning approximately 1 km on both sides of Nippori Chuo-dori Avenue.
Favourite place to buy clothes for the growing children each time we visit Tokyo. Very reasonable price and many selection at Lemon shop. A very convenient place to shop if you are a busy parents when you have kids with different age and gender as you don't have to visit different shop. Everything display so conveniently according to the kids height. We also like to shop at the Edwin shop near the JR train station as it always have discounted item which is really affordable for a mid class family budget. The view along the street is so pretty when the cherry blossom sakura is in full bloom when we last visited on the 27th March 2019 even during the night when the shop closes. Nice place to walk with kids as it was not crowded.

I love the selection all around this area. Notions are in separate shops, so you have to hop to different buildings to make sure you get everything you need. Also, there aren’t many garment patterns available (just basics like yukata, kids’ shirts, etc.), so you might have to go elsewhere if you want to make a more elaborate garments.

Best shopping for my family who loves art and craft. So much fabric and materials to purchase especially at Toamato. Pls give yourself up to 3hrs at least to shop around if you are looking at purchasing to stock up. Fabrics can be as affordable as 1m for ¥100. Good advice is to pull a small luggage along with you. Save the trouble of having to carry so many bags.
Ivan Michael Pung — Google review
If you like sewing you have to go to Nippori!! I spent five hours going from shop to shop (didn't even sit down for lunch). So much stuff, reccomend the five store Tomato shop 🍅
Ida Hedman — Google review
A famous street to get a look of Japanese fabric, buttons or all items relate. Just a few minutes walk from nippori station but don't expect it cheap.
Harraz Naufal Mahfuz — Google review
This is a wonderful place for buying fabrics, yarns, leather and other small things for hand craft! The selection is wide and the patterns are very special. In terms of price it’s affordable - it goes from at low as 100 yen per meter to 1500 yen per meter of fabric.
Helena — Google review
Lots of choices in fabrics, leather & other sewing / dressmaking materials. Prices and designs varies on shops & franchises. Saw lots of foreigners came here, good sign that the location is worth visiting.

Tomato store was 4 storey! Many fabrices to chose frm! Reasonable price! Great place for fabric!

Lots to see, lots to shop, not enough luggage to take it all home
Audrey Chin Quan — Google review
This place is amazing 😩 and all store owners are kind, you can find literally ANYTHING you're looking for. Each store had a physical map for the fabric in both Japanese and english, the pamphlets also included what each store has to offer. Regret not buying more fabrics. Until next time 😍❤️
Asmaa Marafie — Google review
As the place suggest, this is the road where the entire street is full of shops that deal with fabrics and handicraft. This is for those in tailoring or fashion to come and get the required materials for whatever they wish to do.
Rodney Sea — Google review
Had such a wonderful day moving down the street from shop to shop. The staff were all lovely. The selection and prices incredible. I wish I had longer as I hadn't realised some of the shops close at 5-5:30pm so I missed out of doubling back to grab a fabric. So much choice but it didn't feel overwhelming like some others stores and areas can. People who sew tend to be a quieter more organised crowd.

Nippori Fiber Street is the valley of fiber stores and used clothes shops. The atmosphere is nostalgic!
Ryo Tsuzukihashi — Google review
I visit this fabulous fabric town whenever I visit Tokyo! It is the best place to get bargained cloths and accessories, lots of good quality and made in Japan items can be found. The shops are friendly to tourists as well! Some shops accept credit cards and IC cards for payments now, yet still recommend to bring some cash for small shops~
Lornice — Google review
For a fashion designer, or anyone who sews, this street is heaven on earth! Gorgeous fabrics and very low prices. I’ve been twice and I just dream about it when I’m not there. You can get cashmere coatings for $20 a meter! I love Japanese fabrics and they have a great assortment at fabulous prices. This should not be missed by anyone who’s looking for sewing hardware or inexpensive leather and crafts supplies.
Linda Teufel — Google review
Nippori fabric town has a soft of slower, calmer vibe to it where people browse the stores for fabric and craft supplies or anything else that catches their fancy. If you love fabric, especially Japanese patterned and made fabrics, the place is perfect and you can spend hours shopping. However, decision fatigue is REAL in a place like this when the entire TOWN is dedicated to the business of fabric. You can get tired pretty easily and a trip here is not meant for anyone who doesn't like fabric or crafts. Still, it was a very fun and unique experience for me to go here and I found beautiful fabric to bring home.

The Arakawa Natural Park is a beautiful green space located near Machiya station and the Tokyo Sakura Tram. It features wooden walkways, viewing platforms, baseball and tennis facilities, as well as playground equipment including swings and slides for children. The park boasts serene ponds with swans, turtles, carp fish and bountiful roses. Despite being situated in a sewage treatment plant area, it offers an insect park with sculptured trees to explore.
Who would have thought that such a nice garden park would exist in the middle of a sewage treatment plant? Swans in a pond and bountiful roses!
Todd Johnson — Google review
A fantastic park for families, little kids, or adults to walk or jog in. Swings and slides for the little ones, sculptured trees and insect park, also. Swans, turtles, carp fish, and large ponds. About three minutes walk from Machiya station, or a couple of minutes from the tram line station nearby. Free entry from around 6 am to 9 pm most days, I believe.

I found this place while staying in the Arakawa section of Tokyo. I been to all the other more famous wards and sights that Tokyo had to offer. When I travel though, I also like to check out the more local flavor. Whether its interesting or even if its just boring. Well, I walked around Arakawa and found this cute park and it was a very pleasant surprise. I just happened to walk right into without knowing where it was or that it was even in the area. I had no clue what I would find and this was beautiful. A very lovely park in Arakawa and I certainly would recommend it if you're in or planning to stay in the area. Would I say go out your way to see this park if you're visiting Tokyo? No, I wouldn't. Especially if you're pressed for time. If you're in Tokyo for an extended period or better yet; if you're living in the Arakawa or Taito ward, it won't hurt to check it out if you're in the area.

Yūyake Dandan, also known as the "sunset steps," is a renowned staircase in downtown Tokyo, offering a picturesque view of the sunset. Located just a 4-minute walk from Nippori Station on the JR Yamanote Line, these steps lead down to the vibrant Yanaka Ginza shopping street. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through this bustling pedestrian row filled with food and craft stores.
Quite a hill to walk up the stairs, very unique shops will be intriguing!

It's a spot famous for being cast in many movies and animation. Nice spot to stop for a moment and take in the city life. I like this area, so many different shops and local artisans. Open and closing hours/days vary a lot, so don't get sad if you miss a place or other, it's okay.

An old vibe stairs and some little shops that sell anything modern. I love the food! Went there with little expectations and end up buying dorayaki mont blanc at Shiawase Dorayaki / Dorayaki Happiness. 😆😆😆😆 The one with fresh cream was soooo good.

Interesting little block of shops that we checked out when the Yamanote line went down. The tea shop is pretty neat if you're into that sort of thing. There's a bunch of street food items available at a reasonable price too. Not worth going out of your way for but worth checking out if you're in the area.

Shioiri Park is a charming urban green space situated along the Sumida River, originally developed as part of the Western Shirahige Urban Redevelopment Project. This versatile park serves as both a recreational area and an emergency refuge, offering amenities such as barbecue and picnic areas, tennis courts, and playgrounds. The park's integration with the Sumida River's super levee creates a pleasant waterside environment.
I love this place very relaxing and good for the family walk you san see sakura in spring a river and most of all the skytree view

"Oh-kanzakura" were early bloomers, and they had been in full bloom in the park. The trees grew along the river and formed a flower tunnel. Magnificent. There were a lot of tourists and locals who came to visit even on weekdays. I was lucky to take a few snapshots and enjoyed a walk under the blossoms.

Fantastic park! Plenty of space, large climbing structure, beautiful trees and clean toilets. Ideal age for kids to play is 4 years + but there is a small kids section too. I brought a 2, 4 and 7 year old and all had a fun time. Plenty of bike parking too. Some areas are closed for safety sake or repair? Not sure.
Jared Bester — Google review
The park is quite lovely and big. Although we came here on a rainy day, it’s still an ideal place to go for a walk, especially when the sky is clear and not too sunny. But unlike other reviewers’ photos that shows lots of cherry blossoms, I didn’t see any. I don’t know if they’ve already fallen down or they haven’t bloomed yet. So if you want to see the park full of flowers, it’s best to wait until the weekend.

Cherry Blossom update as of 31 March 2024: have a row of full bloom cherry blossoms lined up right outside Minami-senju station. Less than 5 people were there taking photos, so it is a nice photo spot! Be mindful as it is near cycling area, so quite a number of bicycles will cycle past.
jocelyn tan — Google review
i visited here last week. although the forecast said the sakura blooming season in tokyo is around 23rd march, when we went, it wasn't fully blooming yet. only a few trees were blooming, so there were a lot of people crowding around them, making it difficult to take pictures properly. however, since it's located beside the sumidagawa river, the atmosphere was really nice for walks. many families were taking their dogs 🐕 for walks, and it's quite close to the asakusa and ueno areas too.

Visited 3.16.2024. It was really nice to catch cherry blossom when flowers in most places were not blooming yet. Easy stroll by the river and we spent a couple of hours exploring the area. Convenient with a short ten mins walk from the train station Minami-Senju Station. There are supermarket and shopping mall nearby. You can walk towards Skytree along Sumida River; we took Tsukuba Express to Asakusa.

Buddhist temple
Water & Amusement Parks
Jōkanji Temple is a Buddhist temple that houses the grave of a renowned beauty, Mr. Wakamurasaki, from Yoshiwara Yukaku. The temple has a history of mourning for the women and workers from Yoshiwara Yukaku and Sanya. Visitors can purchase incense sticks to offer their prayers as they wander around the temple grounds in search of the grave. The red stamp offered at Jōkanji Temple is highly praised for its aesthetic appeal.
You can see the "Shin Yoshiwara Memorial", the grave of the famous courtesan Wakamurasaki and the Jizo statue of the prostitute Sayoginu. It is really off the beaten track. Recommended for the fans of Edo's dark side.
Stelios Prezerakos — Google review
(Translated by Google) Although it is a small temple, it is a place that tells the history of this area. It is a temple with a long history that was built in 1655, and a prostitute who died when Yoshiwara Yukaku was damaged by the great earthquake of Ansei (1855) was thrown into this temple. The prostitute who broke the rules of Yoshiwara was stripped naked, wrapped in straw mats (coarsely knitted straw mats * rather), and thrown into the temple. At the present Jokanji Temple, there is a memorial tower for the thrown prostitutes. There is another sunflower Jizoson. This is related to the neighboring Doya town, Sanya. The situation may have changed now, but most of the workers in Sanya are no more than themselves, and most of them do not receive their remains after death. Therefore, Himawari Jizoson was erected to give the workers of Sanya the peace of mind of the world after death. Kafu Nagai has visited many times during his lifetime, with his poetry monument and brush mound, and Kafu's memorial service will be held on April 30th, the anniversary of his death. "Born in a difficult world, die in Jokanji" (Hanamata Hansui) (Original)

(Translated by Google) In the senryu of Hanamata Hanasui, there is a poem about Jokanji that says, ``Being born is a world of suffering, dying is Jokanji.'' It seems that it was once called ``Nagekomiji''. In addition to the Shin-Yoshiwara Soreito Pagoda, there are many famous historical sites such as the grave of the tragic courtesan ``Wakamurasaki'' and the Neck Washing Well, and if they are open to the public, you can freely visit them. However, perhaps because of the location, the graveyard is not as spacious as expected, and the tombstones are quite densely packed together and the passageway is narrow, so please be careful not to get in the way of the family members.

(Translated by Google) ``Yoshiwara prostitutes who died of illness or committed suicide did not read sutras and had no graves, but they were sent to this temple with 200 yen of money and thrown into a hole called Sobaka... ” There was a scene in the movie ``Nemekyo Shiro Kashou'' starring Raizo Ichikawa in which the poster girl of a night naki soba shop says this. In the story, which was not in Ren Shiba's original work, Kyoshiro lived in the vault of Jokanji, and it seems that it was officially approved by Ren Shiba. Nowadays, the place where the souvenir used to be is padlocked and no one can go inside, but photographer Araki's geta shop in his parents' house was right in front of Jokanji, so the temple precincts and the somb are also Araki. Apparently it was a place for alumni to play. According to Jokanji's website, when many prostitutes from Shin-Yoshiwara died in the temple during the Great Ansei Earthquake in 1855, they were thrown into this temple and buried. This is said to be the reason why it came to be called "Temple".

Unagi restaurant
Restaurant
Unagi Obana is a renowned unagi restaurant located in Minami-senju, Tokyo. The restaurant is housed in a beautiful building with a charming courtyard and is known for its use of natural eels instead of farmed ones. Despite its popularity, each dish is cooked fresh to order, ensuring high quality and integrity. The restaurant has limited seating and tends to have long queues due to its exceptional food.
Details for Foreigners (a bit tricky). Exceptional Unagi with soft texture and great services. Highly recommended by my Japanese Friend. Directions: I took the Hibiya Line to Minami-Senju station and head towards south exit. Once you are out of the exit: 1. Turn right , walk to traffic light (do not go up the bridge which is on your left). 2. Cross small road ahead, cross again to your left fo the opposite side of road 3. Turn left (Google map will ask you to Turn right) and walk down street (building on your right, road on your left). You will pass by a Worship statue named (吉展地藏尊)before the zebra crossing. 4. At the zebra crossing, turn left and walk straight about 1 min and you are at your destination! Instructions: 1. Opening time 11:30am. I reached 10:50, already second seating. After me, another 6 pax and lunch queue is full. Suggest to come at 10:30am. 2. The lady will ask you for number of pax and wait. 3. 11:25am, everyone starts to go inside and once 1st batch is full, lady will ask you to wait at the bamboo seats beside the entrance. 4. Lady will come and ask you for your Unagi (only) order in Japanese menu. The first one the list is the eel box, 2 prices (medium $5600 large $6300). Second one is eel with sauce only and Third is steam eel. I can’t recall the rest. The other orders are made when you are seated. The lady asked us if we want English menu once inside. 5. I waited until 12:30pm to be seated. 6. Server will come with English menu and take order. Hot green tea is provided in the meal. 7. I recommend you order Yakitori and Omelette to start with as the eel will take a while. 8. Toilet is located at the right corner of the shop when you enter. 9. Once you finished, take the number tag given to you and exit. When you wear your shoes, the cashier is beside. Food 5/5. Excellent soft Unagi with skin easily peeled off. The rice on the eel set is not too sweet, just nice. The steam eel with wasabi and soy sauce is out of the world! My favourite! The yakitori (comes in a pair) is juicy and tender! As for the omelette, its good but not the highlight. The liver soup is a clear broth. Nice but I don’t like the texture and taste of the liver. Service 5/5: It started drizzle and the lady attention to details amazes me. First, she brought out insect repellent (scented) and placed 3 at various bamboo seats . Second, she offered 2 couple who sat outdoor umbrellas. Third, the drizzle stop and it was sunshine, she brought out fans in a bucket and place outside the door for us to fan! Amazing! Price 3/5: JPY17,2xx Expensive but worth it. Ordered the rice box (large), steam eel, small bowl of rice (Gohan), omelette, yakitori and eel liver soup x1.

A quit and beautiful transitional Japanese grilled eel restaurant. Usually people need to be there wait online before the restaurant open otherwise you won’t be get in. Food was delicious. Service was great( take time to cook ) we will definitely go back sometime.

Super good unagi in the outskirts of Tokyo. The thing with the unagi at this place is the meat is so soft, it's unlike your regular unagi restaurants around Tokyo. I can explain how perfectly cooked the eel is. There's likely a wait, I waited for an hour. They only have about 15 or 20 seats inside. In October 2018, they redid the seating so you don't sit on the floor any more. Note that they also close very early, last order is at 7, you probably don't want to come for dinner.

Great place for eel in a more traditional setting. We arrived at 10:30 and was already part of the second service. I don’t think they do a third service so if you plan on eating here for lunch make sure you arrive early. We were seated around 12:30 and the food came around 40 minutes later. It was the best and softest eel I’ve ever had, would recommend.

The staff knows English. The staff is very nice, service is amazing Their only entree is Unagi. It's amazing, 10/10 taste. It's so tender, soft, and buttery. We lined up at 9:54, were the first ones there. By 10:30 there were about 20 people in line. They open up at 11:30. They fit about 10 tables, 2 people each, so 20 people total for the first batch.

Just perfect without description. Eel was tenderly cooked with the fat beautifully flowing down and have the rice covered. Even we were waiting outside for almost 2.5 hrs, I would say the patience i paid was more worthy than expected.

It's a must go place. Worth for the line up n price. The taste of the food is super delicious. The soy sauce is definitely top grade. Eel liver soup is a must have.

Very soft and flavorful. The most delectable unagi that really is worth the long queue.

I've only ever had unagi in the US and nowhere else in Japan so take this review with a grain of salt. I came here based on a mark weins video and decided to spend about half my day traveling , queuing and eating lunch. Based on the reviews, I arrived at around 9:30 on Wednesday and was super early. Easily the first person in line. Seating is limited to the first 15 people or so, and around 10:30 more people started showing up. They do not take reservations or large parties. If you have a large group like five or six people I recommend you get here at 9-930 am so you are all together, otherwise you may have to wait until afternoon service . They have a pretty methodical way of ordering and queing. It's first come first serve and around 10 to 1030 an employee comes out and takes your name and place in line. She comes out periodically every fifteen minutes or so and does this to get the names of others in queue as well. You are grouped by party members. There were some people who were part of a group that came in late but they were able to get in to the first service even though they weren't queuing up. That's kind of unfair to me. The whole party should be present in the queue to make it fair to everyone, especially if they are waiting for two hours or more. Closer to opening they come out and ask you what kind of eel you would like. There's three or four choices I believe and I went with the classic grilled eel in their sauce. When the doors open you walk inside and take off your shoes and are handed a little flag that lets you keep track of your shoes. You enter in the order you queue and they have tables now instead of floor cushions. They then serve you tea. I took this chance to go to the bathroom because after waiting in line for two hours I needed it. It was a really nice and clean and modern bathroom. They have wooden sandals that you wear when entering the restrooms. You only get one chance to order food and once your order is in it can't be altered. My friend wanted to order yakitori after we finished our meal but we were not allowed too. We could keep ordering drinks but once the food ticket is in thats that. Kind of a bummer to be honest since we wanted to try more food. In retrospect, I honestly thought it was just above average and probably not worth the wait, especially with how the ordering and queing is. Again, I've only had eel once in Japan and my prior experience is based on unagi don dishes in sushi places in the US , so I'm not familiar with the different types of eel or unagi dishes that actually exist in Japan. The service was decent and if you can overlook the way they do things in regards to ordering and queing, then you'll enjoy this place. Well deserving of their Michelin ⭐️, this place excels in their food and service. They’re known for eel, which is the only entree on the menu. A few other side dishes are available to choose from, with the egg omelette and the chicken skewers being my favorite. A liver soup was recommended by the waitress, but it was really hot outside and I couldn’t handle hot soup. We arrived a few minutes before 10AM on a Saturday morning, and were the 7th in line. At 10AM, one of their staff came out and took down our party size and name, and then she let us inside the courtyard and took our order. It was 90+ that day, and the heat was unbearable, but luckily they have shaded seatings where we waited until they opened. Around 10:32AM, they placed a sign outside the front stating they were done accepting guests. I counted around 30ish people. The door opened at 11:30AM, and they let in a round of 15 people. The second round started about an hour later, or however quickly the food was served and the guests would eat. I suggest coming at 10AM and seating during the first round. The people who came 10 minutes after we did had to wait for the second round. The drinks and appetizers arrived shortly after seating. A short moment later, the omelette and skewers were served, and they were delicious. The eel with rice was the best I’ve ever eaten. If not for the bones, it wouldn’t even need chewing. I highly recommend the eel here, it was so good. The staff were friendly, and they spoke a little English, enough for us to order the menu and ask for directions to the restroom. Important points to note, this place is cash only. You’ll have to remove your shoes upon entering, so leave your holey socks at home.

What an experience Unagi Obana was. We Went an hour before opening time and there was already a small line. Luckily we made it through the first service. Speaking of service, it was top notch, the wait staff took our orders while we were in line and had our entree on our tables pretty quickly. The food, absolutely delicious eel. Never had any eel like this. It was butter in your mouth, not overly powerful on the teriyaki sauce which really brought out the full flavour of the Unagi. The combination of the rice was just a match made in heaven. You do have to pay a lot more for this experience but it is definitely worth it. Great Unagi Don, probably one of the best I've had. The unagi is extremely rich, fatty and creamy. Seasoning is good too, though I'd say a little weak for those with stronger pallette. What also sets this place apart is the level of service, the staff are just so nice and welcoming and the place will make you feel like home. You do have to pay a premium to eat here though. Can be around 10,000yen per person for an Unagi don. Overall 8.5/10, would return

This establishment is lauded as the premier destination for eel cuisine in Tokyo. A noteworthy aspect of this restaurant is its no-reservation policy, necessitating patrons to arrive over an hour before the doors open to secure a spot. Despite the early arrival, expect to join a lengthy queue, a testament to the restaurant's popularity and the high demand for its offerings. The wait, however, is part of the experience and, in my opinion, well worth the anticipation. One of the restaurant's distinguishing features is its commitment to freshness and quality. Meals are not prepared in advance; the cooking process commences only after you've placed your order. This approach ensures that every dish is served at the pinnacle of its flavor and texture, particularly notable in their signature dish, Una-jyu—a delectable serving of marinated eel laid atop a bed of perfectly cooked rice. Be prepared for a wait of over 30 minutes for this dish, as it is prepared with meticulous care to ensure the highest quality dining experience.

We arrived at Unagi Obana on a Saturday morning just before 11:00am and there was already a line of about 40 people. My wife and I were the literal last ones for the opening service as a lady put out a sign after we got there saying that they were sold out for their first service. Once the doors opened at 11:30am, the restaurant fit about half the line (20-30 people). Warning to those that don't make the first batch, there is a LOOONG wait until your turn. We did not see a party leave the restaurant until 12:30PM, which was strange because they take your orders beforehand and they specialize in eel. Surprised it took so long to cook everyone's orders, but I've never grilled eel before, so what do I know! We finally got in at about 1:15PM (reminder that we were the last ones in line) and got our food around 1:45PM. For me personally, I thought the eel was just okay; it was fine. I did not think it was better or worse than other eels that I have had in the past. For full transparency, I would not consider myself an "eel guy". I don't mind it, but would not go out of my way to eat it. I went because my wife wanted to try it, and she said she really enjoyed it. She likes eel more than I do. The service was great and everyone was super friendly. Overall, our total experience was 3 hours (not including travel time). For me, I would say you could probably find the same quality eel at a restaurant with way less of a wait. 3 hours is a lot of time to commit, especially if you have limited time on vacation.

Darjeeling Restaurant is an Indian eatery that offers a cozy ambiance with vintage decor. The place is known for its phenomenal culinary journey, especially for vegetarians. What sets it apart is the exceptional service and the warm hospitality of the host. The decor creates an elegant and rich Indian dining atmosphere, making guests feel like royalty. Additionally, most of the menu items are gluten-free, catering to various dietary preferences.
Found this restaurant purely by chance.. having now read other reviews, there seem many mixed opinions.. I can only explain our experience. It was magical from start to finish... The decorations are out of this world, and it felt like a indian palace.. the tables are laid as if royalty is due.. Cocktails came beautifully decorated and tasted great... The main meals were beautifully presented and very tasty, the flavours were very gentle as in all food in Japan. We did also have Tea with the owner a seemingly restaurant tradition, and he told us of his love for tea and business.. a very charming guy with interesting stories.. He also upgraded our table for us as we do order a large meal 😋

Extremely photogenic garish interior, decent food (chicken kashmir curry was sweet and strange, though), and bad service. Was basically chased out of the place by the manager who ordered my partner and I to finish up in 5 minutes when I was still halfway through my chai because there were two groups waiting. And half of the staff weren’t wearing their masks properly even when talking to guests. Hoping madly that I didn’t catch covid here. Won’t be coming back again; once is enough.

Very poor service same as other people review. Depends on how they are busy, very change. Depends on people, service is very different. I am so upset about thier service. You can feel Indian atmosphere there and food is not bad. It’s just service is poor so it’s not worth to spend your money in this restaurant. I won’t back

I really love this place! The decor is really impressive. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were just right. The owner is a friendly guy and gave us information on the food that we ordered, he also treated us to some free tea after our meal. Would definitely come back here again. Our bill came to ¥6,180.

I had a GREAT time at this resturant The host there was very welcoming and really knew how to sell their food. I had a taste of the Chicken kashmir and the mango lassi which was more than enough for me(perfect portion of food tho) . They were were both very good and is a 10 out of 10 would recommend! (my vegan friend was also satisfied by the amount of vegan options:)) Everyone I was with, and everyone I knew who went there had a great time, and I very much recommend this no matter if you're a lover of Indian food or not. Great experience!

*** CAUTION: A delicious Indian curry restaurant with the POOREST HOSPITALITY *** Food is nice, quantity is plenty enough, and the interior is also great. The price is a bit more expensive than other Indian restaurants in the area, but is still acceptable enough provided that it's for tourists. BUT, the owner and staff's attitude toward its guests is something which makes me feel that I WON'T VISIT AGAIN FOREVER when we didn't order drink and we saw the owner became pretty rude at once. I would suggest him to tell his other guests that they could enjoy a nice tea set after finishing dishes if ordering drinks now instead of what he, in reality, said "you won't enjoy a nice tea set unless you order drink now" to us. It would be a nice choice ONLY IF you are going to order some drinks first. GOOD LUCK, guys.

Returning to Darjeeling restaurant in 2024, after my daily visits back in 2017, was like stepping into a cherished memory that hasn't aged a day. The moment you walk in, the decor is transcendent. The culinary journey here is nothing short of phenomenal, especially for vegetarians. But what truly sets Darjeeling apart is the unparalleled service and the extraordinary host. His kindness, gentleness, and generosity fill the space with warmth, making every guest feel like an old friend. An incredible storyteller and a tea expert, he weaves magic into the air, leaving you hanging onto his every word. His passion for tea and storytelling elevates the dining experience, making it not just a meal, but a journey through the senses. My heart (and belly) were overflowing with contentment, as I once again got to experience the magic of Darjeeling. It's a rare gem where every visit feels like the first, where every meal is a celebration, and where every goodbye is a promise to return. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

This was not a Japanese dining experience, but this place is wild. The decor is incredible, creating the most elegant and rich Indian dining atmosphere. Each table has its own unique decorative features. Above all, like most Indian food, most of the menu items were gluten-free (I'm coeliac). The owner, who is also a tea merchant, gave us complimentary tea after the meal, served in an elegant teapot and cups.

Sakura Cafe & Restaurant Nippori is a charming spot with a great location near the old street. The food is delicious and they offer a variety of cuisines from around the world, along with an English menu. The staff is friendly and speaks excellent English, creating a lovely atmosphere. While the shared toilet and bathroom may not be suitable for those sensitive to cleanliness, it's definitely worth trying out for its reasonable prices and cozy ambiance.
We tried the aftetnoon tea. Amazing. I have been in Tokyo for 8 months now. This was like a little taste of home. If you brought your friend here for a special occasion, YOU would be HAPPY. The afternoon tea we had was delightful.

Nice lil place to stay at. Nice foods. Great price. Awesome location to old street. Customer service is fantastic. My only comment is because the toilet and bathroom is a public shared, therefore expect it to be quite dirty. If you are a germophobia, this place is definitely not for you. Peace!

Had their Loco Moco and Taco Rice. Both were good for the price. They have a decent variety of world and craft beers though too much of a focus on novelty than quality. The staff were all very nice and could speak English for the most part and the cafe area was clean and welcoming. It's open 24/7 so it's convenient if you need time to kill and are hungry.

This is a nice cafe with very friendly staff and delicious food. As there aren't many vegetarian options on the menu, the chef created a new dish for me, using lots of different types of vegetables (all from an organic farm in northern Japan) to go with Japanese cheese rice. Can certainly recommend.

The place was very interesting. They don't have table/chair but put a board on the floor and serve the foods on it. It was packed with people so literally we were all next to each other. We ordered all-you-can-eat course but actually it was not. What people imagine with all-you-can-eat in Japan is somehow we can order what we want, but once they served the foods they even didn't ask if we want more and didn't pay attention at all. It was bit different from what they say in the menu. (The dessert was fig jam. I'm not sure it's dessert actually 😅) Anyway the foods overall were not really bad and portion was big. One thing, I found hair in salad and the cups/dishes/forks were not hygienic. Well, I just embraced this might be part of middle east culture at the end after meeting the owner. He suddenly came up and was going around the place making some jokes of customers which are definitely pretty far from political correctness. He introduced himself as うざい店主 (which means annoying owner) and it was 😂 But I could feel his warm mind, even he acts like the Turkish ice cream seller. If you want to see the belly dance show, they will charge you additional 550 yen for each.

I have went twice for the lunch course (2200 yen). They have much cheaper options that have a lot of volume, but I wanted to try the full range of dishes. They offer Uzbeki, Persian and Turkish food. I tried the Uzbeki course out of curiosity, and it was so delicious I came back for Persian New Year to have the Persian course (which was equally delicious and made me miss my family’s cooking). They also offer very cheap lunch sets that have a lot of volume by themselves, but if you’re really hungry and curious about a wide range of dishes, I recommend the courses (You can even mix the courses). The atmosphere is very interesting with the entire shop being covered with wall to wall Persian carpets. In addition, the owner is a very nice Persian guy and always makes conversation when I come in. On taste alone I would give 5 stars, but including the variety and cost (not sure about Uzbeki food, but the value you’re getting is insane considering the average cost of Persian food in Japan) it is as an easy recommend!

Not gonna lie it's alright, rather cheap for foreign food in Japan. But where they get you is the 'all you can eat'.. if you speak English I'm pretty sure you know this means a buffet, correct? Apparently not. Despite being advertised as 2,200 yen all you can eat it's via order to order, and the kebab/roast chicken can only be ordered once per session otherwise itll cost money in addition to your 2,200 yen. The food is alright but the service, it is a bit strange. The Japanese girl who's maining the front is a bit rude and she only speaks English to those she knows will spend a lot, I saw it myself (lol). Maybe it'd be more worth it for the 1100 yen lunch course but I'm not sure about coming back. *EDIT I asked for dessert and all he gave me was a plate of 4 walnuts even though the sweets on the menu seems to be actual sweets??????

I went for lunch on a quiet weekday so I was able to just walk in and get seated. The dining area is on a bunch of rugs, and you'll be eating on the floor so you do have to take your shoes off. I wasn't super hungry so I was happy to see options for a light meal. There were lots of people with the lunch chicken plate and some guy ordered the whole chicken for himself. The price was also very reasonable given the locale. The menu was a little different from their website and customer photos here so maybe ring ahead if you really want something. The service was OK, a bit on the rough side for Japan, but probably normal everywhere else. It's probably because I'm not a native speaker but it was super hard to hear what was being said with the plastic sheets hanging and the music in the background. I really liked the decor though, and enjoyed just sitting there looking at the pretty lamps.

Burari is a hidden gem in Japan, offering unique and delicious chicken-flavored ramen. The broth is rich and full of umami, with a sticky texture that indicates it has been boiling for a long time. The chicken charsiu perfectly complements the flavorful broth and noodles. The serving size is just right, leaving you wanting more. Ordering is done through a machine with English translations available, and the staff are helpful and friendly.

Uber delicious chicken flavored ramen! Tucked away at the back of an alley, the shop can be difficult to pinpoint. Several ramen shops in the area too so make sure to ask around. The light creamy smooth soup, heavenly! Noodles were great too. Excellent chashu also. Very friendly staff.
