Kyogamisaki Lighthouse

Lighthouses
Kyogamisaki Lighthouse, constructed in 1898, can be accessed by a challenging hike along the clifftop. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Sea of Japan and is a popular tourist destination. The lighthouse boasts state-of-the-art lenses that were among the first of their kind when installed. Despite being rather windy during winter, visitors are encouraged to explore the well-maintained building and enjoy the beautiful scenery while taking photographs.
If the weather is great, this place is an amazing place for the view point! I saw some tourists there as the tour bus comes by there. So i happened to find that this is a tourist spot! Indeed, it’s a nice and beautiful place where you can look over the Japan ocean! During the winter time, this place is windy so I recommend that you bring your jacket or windbreaker of your choice! Look around and take some photos as well have a good time there! Enjoy and cheers!

One of the first lighthouse to use some special lense or something. Building is kept clean and nice!

Although the light house itself was not so interesting, we had fun hiking to the top of the mountain for the view. It is a bit strenuous as you have to walk up a steep staircase in the beginning. But it was short and worth the sweat. We found many traces of wild animals including monkeys. We spend about an hour. Easy to park a car (free) and clean and modern toilets at the parking lot only (empty yourself before the trip). Recommend for a family with kids.

Lovely view and hike. Rather windy

The place where sea and sky meet. It took about 15 min. from parking, and the path was rough, but the scenery from lighthouse was beyond my imagination. I felt I would stay here longer. The lenses of lighthouse are big and rotating slowly. They are like shining diamonds in showcase. You must go to see.

I give 4 because of location….the drive and views are worth it without the lighthouse…get that extra…we and enjoyed the hike.

Kyogamisaki Lighthouse : Kyogamisaki Lighthouse was built in 1898 on this northernmost cape of Kinki region called Kyogamisaki Cape. Standing on a cliff on the north-end of Kyotango Peninsula approximately148 meters above the sea, it is one of the three major lighthouses in Japan. The formation of the columnar rocks jointed around the cape was made by the erosion of waves. This cape is a part of designated coastal area known to offer great scenic view called Geo Park. The lighthouse is designated as one of five such structures built with first class lens made in France. This lense was once displayed in Paris International Exposition. The lighthouse was built in this location to offer safe guidance for ships to come in and out of this dangerous zone of waters. You can also see remains of quarry along the coast below the lighthouse. Those stones excavated from the quarry were used in the construction of the lighthouse. Kyogamisaki was designated as a heritage site to symbolize industrial modenization of the region. This lighthouse opens its access to the public on its Open Day. It is elevation of 12 meters from the ground. Just little west of Kyogamisaki Cape is a scenic area called Tango Matsushima known for its spectacular coastal view. The area was named Tango Matsushima for having similar appearance to Matsushima which is designated as one of three greatest scenic views in Japan. The landscape around here consists of terraced rice field with a background of Japan Sea with a coast line formed with columner rock formation like Kyogamisaki Cape. There are some sand beaches along the coast. ( Trans-word+ : TGM Kyoto Guide )

A very interesting place. It is a house of a very rich merchant in Kyotango. The house is big and beautiful.

Inaba Honke is a historic house in the area that used to belong to a wealthy merchant. The property also serves as a restaurant that offers a local specialty called barazushi as part of a set lunch. It is a layered rice dish with a variety of toppings. This building also has a fantastic Japanese Garden on the property (fully enclosed) and I saw some beautiful shots of a couple who had their wedding photos taken here. I particularly like the view from the second floor hallway/deck, where you can see all of the tiled roofs throughout the town.

A beautiful building with a lot of historical significance. Not much English signage, but they have a flyer if you ask.

(Translated by Google) Plate painting experience and building tour And the rice cake you are looking for🍵 Christmas 🎄 Monday morning I had reserved a painting experience for 11 o'clock. Arrive early and take a tour Buy souvenirs. Like a mansion✨ It was a nice building and a nice garden. I guess it's rare to have the experience of putting something inside a safe. I think it was a great experience for both myself and my son. Botamochi is mildly sweet and delicious😋 It's best to eat it on the spot the same day rather than taking it home. If you take it home, it is better to eat it within the same day. I don't think the person giving it as a souvenir will be able to appreciate the softness and taste of the ingredients since it has a short shelf life. When I ate it after returning home, it was a little hard. The teacher for the painting experience I had booked was very kind and gave explanations that were easy to understand even for my fifth grade son. It was a very fun painting experience. I’m looking forward to receiving it in 2 months ✨🙏✨ (Original)

All of these are handmade and you can enjoy them while looking out at the beautiful garden with moss, so this is also recommended. There is a free municipal parking lot for tourists next to the Shinkin Bank, so you won't have any problems if you come by car. (Translated by Google) I was passing by and saw the botamochi banners and visited. I was told that I could see the inside of the mansion for 100 yen, so I went. As he was a wealthy merchant, it seemed like it cost a lot of money to furnish each room in his mansion. I bought botamochi (bota mochi) and it was delicious. The filling was light and easy to eat. (Translated by Google) A mansion of a wealthy merchant in Kyotango. Although it was a sunny day, there was a refreshing breeze and I was able to experience the splendor of Japanese houses. There were also exhibits and you could touch them, so it was a lot of fun. You can buy local products in the dirt floor space on the first floor, and we also purchase local beer. Is there a place where I can drink? When I asked about it, I was told that the recommended spot was the verandah on the second floor. It was great to have a beer while looking at the sky and the black glowing roof tiles! Sodeshi Rice Terraces

So many levels and intricately shaped paddies on the Sea of Japan. Breathtaking. These rice terraces are just amazing and justifiably on the list of top rice terraces in Japan. The are cut into the mountains and the road winding through takes you up above them all. There are so many levels, and they are all uniquely shaped and hand planted (I saw people out working in them when I was there). I think the best season to see them is the spring when they are flooded / the rice seedlings are just planted. Coming during sunset would also probably be amazing. Like others have mentioned, the roads winding through the area are extremely narrow, and I would recommend parking at the bottom and walking through the area (so you can also take you time taking pictures and not get in the way of farm trucks). I think cyclists would also have an easy time, though the roads are steep and its quite fun to walk through the central paths surrounded on all side by water. Highly Recommend. These are totally worth a stop along your journey.

(Translated by Google) First of all, it is a terraced rice field that has not become a tourist destination, so please be considerate when visiting. I visited around noon on a weekday, but there was no one there as it was a very hot day. Please note that if you access from the east and set it on Google Maps, you will be directed to a road that passes through an alley of private houses as shown in the photo. It would be difficult if you were driving, but if you were riding a motorcycle, you could go around the rice terraces and get back to the main road along the coast. By the way, if you walk up a steep hill, you will arrive in about 5 minutes. have a nice trip!

It's a small, traditional farming village and the roads are quite narrow, so I think it's better to walk slowly instead of driving around the rice terraces. It is a popular spot for photographers from before rice planting to autumn harvest. It may be possible to take photos of the Salar de Uyuni, which is known for its mirror of the sky, around the Golden Week, before rice planting, around the time of Daita. This is the end of winter Makes you feel the breath of spring I was called to the rice terraces of Sodeshi. It is very difficult to drive from the village along the road to the rice terraces above without relying on the navigation system. It's safer to stop. The Y-junction just ahead? T-junction? Turn left from You can go by car. The road is narrow You can't turn around unless you go near the photo shoot point in the back, but I thought it was a good time to see the Sea of Japan from the rice terraces. During the spring and autumn farming seasons We recommend that each person consider this on their own and park their car near the information board along the road and walk to enjoy the rice terraces and the Sea of Japan. The picturesque location of Tateiwa is situated at the estuary of the Takeno River, boasting striking volcanic columnar joints and a sandy bar. This attractive site forms an integral part of the Geopark and offers visitors stunning views. Its unique geological features make it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts seeking awe-inspiring landscapes.
I went there around 5pm on July 2nd. It was very peaceful. A few people were fishing and a few more were just visiting. The walking bridge is another interesting thing about this place. The empress statue is quiet nice too. Moreover, there was an upside down rainbow when I was there.

Tateiwa as a part of Geo Park : There is a legend of an ancient Emperial prince of Japan regarding this Tachiiwa. According to the story three evil demons called Oni were exterminated by prince Maroko ( Shotoku Taishi in his childhood ) sealed into this rock with his mother ( Hashiudo ). ( Shotoku Taishi ) is the very first Emperor of Japan and the one introduced Buddhist way of life to Japan. Two demons were killed and one was sealed into this rock to show the example for their evel doings. The rock stands as tall as 20 meters formed with basalt. To this day you can hear the sound of demon crying around the rock on windy nights. There is a monumental statues of Empress and the prince next to the beach side of this park offering protection of the sea. The location of this place is west of Byobu Rocks. You can also observe some ancient remains of burial mounds around the coast of this area called Geo Park. There is a road station of Tenki-tenki Tango as well as historical museum of this area nearby. You might want to stop by for some souvenir shopping and some learning experience.
