Beaches
Coligny Beach Park is an oceanfront recreational area featuring well-maintained walking and biking paths, as well as amenities like Wi-Fi, swings, and the option to rent beach equipment. It is a popular destination for families as it is conveniently located near a playground and the Hilton Head Island Children's Museum. Locals also frequent Islanders Beach, where they can enjoy grilling facilities and picnic pavilions in addition to swimming in the Atlantic Ocean.
I love this beach park. The trees are so beautiful and the water was so clear. They have lots of pine trees and the bright green leave plants. I also love that parking was easy, at least when we went in December. They also have bathrooms and showers.

Free public access to the Atlantic Ocean in a Hilton Head Island, SC! Beautiful boardwalk bringing you into the heart of the park. Clean restrooms, rinse off area, changing rooms and lots of shaded seating stops. Wheel chair and scooter accessible mat also available. Beach with lifeguards is very clean with several umbrella chairs and prime seating for families enjoying the day at the beach. Would definitely return!
Elizabeth Kibby — Google review
Beautiful beach with all amenities like washrooms, foot wash, changing rooms, showers, parking. Walk to the beach is a pathway with beautiful trees, you can take your carts along with beach chairs. During the day beach was quite jammed but when I went in the morning around 7am it was much less crowded and looking more peaceful and beautiful then the day. Water of the beach is very very salty so if you skin allergies take precautions. You get Chairs along with umbrella shed on rent but I did not take it so don’t know the rent. P.S- I would request to each of you reading the review not to leave your plastic cans/items near the beach( I saw many during the day visit). Also other request would be to minimize the use of plastic so that our oceans don’t get destroyed.

Wonderful beach! Very clean and well maintained. We loved the walk up to the beach. There is plenty of seating where you can just rest and admire the beauty of the park. Just a short ways from the main Coligny Beach Park entrance, there is tons of safe, free parking. People (tourists and locals) are very friendly and will guide you if you need help. We particularly loved the outdoor changing area because we visited the beach again on the day we had checked out of our hotel. We were able to let the kids get in the ocean and play in the sand, and then come and rinse off and change into dry clothes right at the park. This extended our trip and gave us another day to enjoy the beach as we still had a safe area to get dressed. The park is close to tons of restaurants and shops. Just leave your car in the free lot and go explore. It’s worth it!

I live in Atlanta and don’t mind driving here because it’s clean, family-friendly, has free parking, and it really is beautiful. I love this beach! Lovely place to spend the day with my family

This place is really nice. The beach is usually very clean and well maintained. Has a nice long wide mat that makes it easy to get through the soft sand. There are some nice shops and places to eat. All of which are within walking distance from the beach and where you park. Definitely recommend coming here. FYI It does get crazy busy during tourist season

Beautiful place, flat beach area, soft sand nice to walk in the area that close to the water, not crowded, there is clean station and toilets. Pretty nice and clean side walk. Ocean water is pretty cold right now. friendly wave all day long..

Cool beach, gets busy during hot days for swimming. Many people around so it's mostly safe. Nice sunrises over the Atlantic and decent sunsets. Oceans can be flat as pancake or have 4-5 foot choppers in the same day. High and low tides add about 20 yards to beach area. Fun place to people watch
M Caff — Google review
This was our first time coming here. Making our way to Florida. This park is actually really nice & convenient! So many wash off showers, bathrooms are decent, swings to sit down and chill. The beach sand was so nice, there was some trash here and there. The waters are warm!! I've never felt the waters that warm before. I recommend this park though, it's a nice place to take the family.

FREE PARKING! HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE right down to the ocean! There are mats lining the path that wheelchairs can roll on easily. This place is stunning. Very little shells on the beach. It's nice to see a city put so much into public access. Restrooms, showers, water faucets and more! The water was good and cold from the fountain which is a surprise. The sunrise was pretty even if that one cloud blocked it a little. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance too!
Ray Smith — Google review
A beautiful park with lovely bench swings on the walkway to the beach. We were there in December and the temps were in the mid 50s. It was warm on the swings and cooler on the beach, where it was windy. If you dress for the wind it is a beautiful walk along the beach and not very crowded this time.if year.
Hadassa 1 — Google review
A good beach access point for the public. It has all the necessary after beach clean up facilities. The restrooms were kept as clean as possible for a public restroom. There was good enough sanitations. The park had several shops and restaurants which were unfortunately all closed as I visited on Christmas day.

Coligny Beach Park on Hilton Head Island is a must-visit destination for both solo travelers and families alike, the boardwalk leading to the expansive beach offers an intoxicating blend of natural beauty and modern convenience. The crown jewels of this picturesque location are the enormous live oaks that shade the park's well-maintained boardwalk that transforms the park into a cool retreat even in the peak summer heat. They're not just functional – these age-old guardians of the island possess a rustic beauty that adds a unique charm to the landscape. The park's splash pads are a real delight, particularly for children. A fine mist keeps visitors cool under the South Carolinian sun, adding an element of fun to the soothing serenity of the beach. The area is kept clean and is perfectly safe, making it an ideal spot for families to create lasting memories. Adding to the park's tranquility are the numerous swings scattered throughout the park. There's nothing quite as relaxing as swinging gently under the protective canopy of the oaks, enjoying the soft sea breeze and the hypnotic rhythm of the nearby ocean waves. Coligny Beach Park is a harmonious blend of leisure and nature.

Best beach to spend an afternoon with friends. Very clean beach. Found sand dollars and starfish. Life guards and helicopter kept eyes on water for any potential threat of sharks. Warnings were given and everyone had to get out of the water. It was about 30 minutes. Then the all clear was given. Clean bathrooms. Definitely my favorite beach!
Spedrock W — Google review
Beautiful beach, easy access and lovely rest area with water spigots to wash off your feet as well as showers to rinse off completely. Could use more parking but there isn't anywhere to add it - plus, it's walkable from many of the condos nearby. The sand was perfect and waterntemp was cold but bearable for an October sunrise.
Patricia Batchelor — Google review
Love the fact if you are in a wheelchair you can go and see the beach with no problem. Also if you have a hard time walking in the sand they have a cover over the sand in which makes it easier to get there. The cover doesn't get hot either.

Out of all my visits to this magnificent island, I never once had been to this beach access in Coligny Plaza, as I always have beach access inside Sea Pines, so I decided to try something new. What sort of local guide would I be if I didn't? As far as the actual beachline goes, it's a beach, so everything there was what I expected it to be, but as far as the entrance, it was well-maintained and there were enough restrooms around! The beach itself also extends quite largely, so there's plenty of room for everyone!
beastlycharizard13 — Google review
Looks like a well maintained area, clean with restrooms, showers, swings, and short easy walk to the beach. parking upfront was easy to find as we went during winter. Parking was free. We didn't stay for very long but enjoyed the area quite a lot..there is shopping nearly and restaurants too. We saw lot of people with dogs too.

Great beach with a lot of space to set up chairs, blankets or whatever. A lot of walkable or bikeable stores and restaurants close by. Stations to wash off feet, showers and bathrooms. There is a wheelchair accessible mat at the entrance that brings you to the beach as well as beach wheelchairs you can borrow for free.

Coligny Beach is a high quality spot with nice facilities, including restrooms and changing cabanas. It’s a great walking beach, especially at sunrise. You can rent chairs and umbrellas ‘in season’. There is plenty of parking nearby.

The first time I had been there and it was very clean. It had a lot of added family touches. Share toys and clean up area for the beach. The changing rooms and the restrooms were very clean. I loved the porch swings as well.

Specialty Museums
The Coastal Discovery Museum is a learning center situated on 68 coastal acres. It offers educational programs and guided walks through ancient buildings, trees, and wildlife habitats. The venue includes salt marsh boardwalks, open fields, gardens, trails, and a butterfly habitat spanning 1200 square feet. This habitat is home to around 13 species of native butterflies found in the Lowcountry region. Visitors can explore the natural history and cultural heritage of the Honey Horn property.
This is a great spot to visit if you have an hour or two to explore the inner exhibits and the exterior trail. It's a very educational place and is great for all ages. We went in the rain which wasn't bad. We could still are our way outdoors with an umbrella and raincoat. We especially liked the history and lantern exhibit. Quite a nice treat.
Julie Goldammer — Google review
This little museum is an absolutely wonderful thing to do if you enjoy nature walks and scenery. There's chickens, a horse, bee hives, a camellia garden, a carnivorous plant garden, a butterfly house (butterflies are released for migration October-April), a piece from a NASA rocket, and plenty more 🥰 The volunteers were all incredibly sweet, one of them gave me several cuttings after she noticed me admiring a potted plant near the front desk. Which made my visit that much better. Highly recommend it! But not great for a rainy day, as most of it is outside. Entry fee is just a $5 donation :)
Kathryn VanNuland — Google review
We had such a great time! We spent the first part exploring the indoor museum and were treated with animals, history and an amazingly knowledgeable volunteer who helped us gain our bearings and truly made us feel so welcome. Then we explored every bit of outside! So much beautiful nature to explore and so much to learn. Great for kids, adults, couples, everyone!

Visited for the Gullah Celebration 2024. I am glad I was able to make it because it was a good presentation of all things Gullah on the island. There were lots of beautifully created crafts and I am sorry I could not buy them all!

We had such a great day at the coastal discovery museum. The grounds are beautiful. There are so many things to see and learn about. We had an excellent tour guide who explained about Myrtle the turtle and horseshoe crabs. We spent about 2 hours in total there but easily could’ve taken longer! A great learning environment for kids and adults.
Katie Collett — Google review
Great spot to visit and learn about the island wildlife. There is a museum (with lots of info about the birds, fish and turtles), a few outdoor (and partially shaded) exhibits including a butterfly house, two walkways into the marshland, and a couple small barns. It's free for the most part (you can leave a donation if you want) and there is a small gift shop if you want to buy a souvenir. Overall this was a fun and informative place to go.
Mike Moore — Google review
The museum itself was delightful. But I paid full price for a ticket for the Gullah history tour, and I felt it was way overpriced. I would have liked more information about the history of the Gullah people and their culture here on the island and not just pointing out neighborhoods where they lived. There were very few butterflies in the butterfly house, and there were no carnivorous plants growing in the carnivorous plant exhibit.
Julie Overbeck — Google review
Very nice place to visit. Museum well done and informative. Came in March, outside would be nicer in warmer weather. Free, but we donated.
Greg DeCicco — Google review
so awesome!! visiting this museum was free (but they do accept donations!) and it is a beautiful area to walk around. there is a great butterfly garden that you can walk through, pretty trails, and they even had a little meet-and-greet with some animals (this was $7 a person, but it’s totally optional. i would absolutely recommend, though!!). we got to hold a corn snake, turtles, and baby alligators. the staff was super friendly and nice and i would love to go back.

Be prepared to walk.and bring bug spray. Very informative, nice walk-around to see the marshes and different plants/animals. Cute gift shop as well as some canned things for sale. Children's activities and live horseshoe crabs & a turtle!! Our kids loved it.
Ali Bettencourtt — Google review
We stopped in to the museum to check it out with our 8 and 1 year old daughter's. There is a lot to explore on the grounds and inside the museum. They have a scavenger hunt for the kiddos to do which involves hitting all of the checkpoints on the map. Great for a quick home school lesson if you're on vacation and playing hooky! This kept us busy for a good couple of hours while exploring and learning about the low country and all it has to offer, as well as the history of the land. We visited towards the end of March and I think with it being the off season, the grounds needed some attention and they could stand to update a few things but all in all, it wasn't bad. I would assume it's a little more lively during the peak season. There was no entry fee but they do accept donations. There was a kids room inside the museum with their pet turtle and some other fun things for them to play with. There's a lot to learn inside and out. I would compare it to a National Park welcome center and gift shop. We're glad it wasn't raining because the scavenger hunt and trail are all outside so be prepared and plan for a fair weather day!

We toured the museum and its grounds and found both very interesting. We also took the Blue Crab Discovery tour with Carol Horowitz, who was an excellent guide! We enjoyed the Dolphin and Nature Cruise, and the crew was also excellent. We will definitely make a visit the next time we're in Hilton Head!

WOW, WHAT A GREAT PLACE. Enjoyed our afternoon in the museum and walking the around the Horn Trail.

We visited the museum July 5th. It was very spacious with air conditioning. It has very beautiful local art displayed along with information about local wildlife, and Hilton Head history. We also took a class in the Exploratory Laboratory. Amanda taught us lots of fascinating information about alligators, horseshoe crabs, and the environment. She was very friendly and deeply invested. Thank you for a fun and educational outing!

Stoney Baynard Ruins

Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
The Stoney-Baynard Plantation, also known as Baynard Ruins or Braddocks Point Plantation, is a popular historical site in Hilton Head. It offers visitors a chance to explore the ruins of a Civil War plantation home and slave quarters with purported ghost sightings. The plantation dates back to 1790 and was destroyed at the end of the Civil War. Located near Sea Pines Nature Preserve, it is one of Hilton Head's top attractions for those interested in history.
We visited here on bike. It was hard to read about the history of it all, but it's so important to rememeber. It was Incredible to me that so much is still standing today. Worth a visit!
Chelsea Whitney — Google review
The Stoney Baynard Ruins site is located within the Sea Pines / Harbour Town area. So, if you're not a resident or guest or staying within the community, you must purchase a $9 pass at the Sea Pines gate to enter the community. It is well worth the small fee as you have access to Harbour Town and some other areas - but the Stoney Baynard Ruins were astonishing and emotional; a plantation hand-built by enslaved people that endured the unthinkable and their small living quarters nearby (emotional). Incredible craftsmanship that you won't see today. Keep in mind that while walking through the area, you will be stepping on the shells used to construct these buildings. It gave me goosebumps.
Catherine Teringo — Google review
A very intriguing piece of history that I frequently visit whenever I visit the island! Not much is left of these old buildings, since they were all destroyed in a ferocious fire, but historians have done a very good job of describing what was there!
beastlycharizard13 — Google review
As far as history goes, this is an interesting spot. However, its not the lost exciting ruins we've seen. Not a lot left to see, but there were info plaques at each remain. Still worth a stop if you are out on Hilton Head!
Olivia Rene — Google review
If you enjoy history and you visit Sea Pines, you need to take a few minutes to visit Stoney Baynard Ruins. It only takes about a half hour to walk around and see what remains of the plantation house, slave quarters, and kitchen, as well as a foundation for a Union soldier structure. Signage along the path describes the structures. It was interesting to me how much of the foundation and walls of the plantation house were built with "tabby" cement made with oyster shells, sand, and water. The oyster shells are still quite visible. The plantation house was a two-story 1,885 square foot structure, whereas the structure housing enslaved people was 335 square feet, and that small structure was divided in two to house two families. Captain John "Saucy Jack" Stoney built the main house between 1793-1810. After he died, his sons inherited the plantation, but later it was sold to William Edings Baynard. So, those two family names, Stoney and Baynard, are how the site obtained the name of Stoney Baynard Ruins. Union troops invaded Hilton Head Island on November 7, 1861, and the Baynard family fled. The Federal government then took over the property. Due to a fire on the property, ruins are all that remain. But it is worth seeing and learning about, and imagining a very different way of life that existed on the island in times long ago.
Greg Squyres — Google review
Interesting history and some very cool ruins. Maybe a 10 minute visit but worth the short walk.

I’m a history guy so anytime I can visit and learn from the past I try and stop. There is a gate fee (currently $9.00) to get into Sea Pines. Plenty of other things to do. I found the history of this place interesting and is was awesome to learn how the foundation was made. There was no one else there upon arrival. A great way to take in the history and walk around.

There's not much to this spot. Mainly just the foundation and some placs describing what was once there. Note that you do have to get a day pass to access this side of town. It's considered a "Plantation".

Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park is a forested area with pathways for walking, an observatory to view wetlands, a picnic area, and access to the beach. It holds the significant distinction of being the first self-governed African American community in the United States during the Civil War. Established in 1862, it housed liberated individuals from various African regions.

Hallelujah. Finally the black population of the 1700 and 1800s in Hilton Head SC are given recognition for their backbreaking enslaved free grueling and gruesome labor for their white plantation owners. The blacks built Hilton Head and the sea pine islands and allowed white plantation owners to rise to power, fame and wealth. This site was excavated 3 years ago and just recently being advertised. Hallelujah! I am thrilled for an upgraded history of this area which is now covered end to end with white wealthy property owners.

There wasn’t an event when we went. Really just a grove of beautiful trees with signs that describe the history of Mitchellville. We were looking for some Gullah Cultural spots, and this was a fascinating piece African-American history. Also the beautiful view of the marsh and the walk to the beach made it nice destination if you like birds and nature and want to see what Hilton Head might have looked like before. Went on the Mitchellville 10AM oral history tour. It's the first established and self governed Freedman establishment prior to Emancipation. The buildings are reconstructed but Ms Cora who normally does the reenactments for Harriet Tubman gave us a walking tour including several praise songs that led to an almost 2H tour. While this was omitted from my American history classes the African American family of 9 from Brooklyn on my tour had heard of Mitchellville. This historic site is ADA compliant for those using an outdoor wheelchair or outdoor wheeled walker. There are benches in front of most of the buildings allowing people to rest between the stops. There is a handicap accessible bathroom in the park. I have osteoarthritis in the feet and appreciated being able to sit as we moved from building to building.

The Palmetto Dunes Tennis and Pickleball Center is a renowned tennis facility located in South Carolina's Hilton Head region. Known for its quality and fun, the center has won numerous awards and is considered the best place to engage in tennis and pickleball. The center offers daily round robins, competitive matches, clinics hosted by excellent professionals like Coach Patrick who provides insightful advice tailored to individual needs.
I definitely give the highest rating for the pickleball club at Palmetto Dunes. I had a lesson with Nancy earlier this week which was very, very helpful. She listens to you and is very easy to understand, Hopefully, I will find that my serve and 3rd drop shot have significantly improved. Next, the staff at the front desk (a man and a woman, not certain of their names) are very helpful and pleasant. It makes signing up for lessons and round robins very helpful. -- Life is good. Contentment is not fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of what you already have.

I agree with Tennis magazine that Palmetto Dunes is the very best tennis facility in the Carolinas. Everything about the staff is fabulous. My game always improves when I take advantage of the clinics. They are so focused on teaching skills and tactics and having all the tools help get the teaching points across. It is always a big part of my vacation at Hilton Head

Fantastic Pickleball Courts. My wife and I happened to be staying across the street from the Palmetto Dunes Tennis and Pickleball Center and decided to reserve a court to play Pickleball for a while. We were really amazed. There are 24 courts in perfect condition with all levels of players on different courts. The price was very reasonable and we'll be playing again during our vacation.

The teaching pros, the staff and the overall experience are why we come back every time we visit the island. As experienced players, my husband and I have multiple clinics, lessons or a daily round robin to improve, fine tune or just enjoy the game. My children, who are the definition of beginners, were placed appropriately in clinics based on their abilities. This is the BEST place to learn or play tennis on island!

Palmetto Dunes is by far the best tennis and pickleball facility we have ever been to! My kids are 4 and 6 and they absolutely LOVE the tennis clinics. Patrick Walker is an incredible instructor. He keeps the kids engaged and having fun while they learn proper technique and advance their tennis skills. The improvement we saw over a two week span was incredible! Additionally, my husband and I also took lessons from Patrick and he’s just as adept at imparting advanced skills and knowledge to adults as he was with children. We spend extra time in Hilton Head each year just to enjoy the facility and take lessons there!! We look forward to returning next year!

If you love tennis, this is the place to be on Hilton Head! Daily round robins, great competition, excellent pros, variety of clinics. Coach Patrick is an excellent addition. He tutors/instructs based on the individual, with clear, insightful advice. His vibe is extremely positive. His laugh is so infectious, you will be improving your game while you are laughing! The pro shop is a good option for tennis gear and clothes. Personnel are very friendly.

Excellent instruction & facilities, very pleasant & accommodating team in the club house, great way to meet lots of nice people who live or vacation on Hilton Head Island. Call out to Sarah H, Rick, Jamie, & Reggie for their enthusiasm and patience working with Pickleball rookies and providing excellent instruction. We appreciated the clarity of instruction and their ability to break the game down into components we could understand. They teach you in a way you can continue drills and learning on your own. The front office team does a great, efficient job managing the incredible number of people scheduling and rescheduling lessons, round robins and court time. First class operation enhances our annual visit to Hilton Head and Palmetto Dunes. Thanks and see you next year! Dave & Bonnie B

Had a wonderful experience at Palmetto Dunes Tennis Centre! I took two clinics, one semi private lesson, and booked court time to play and every session was great. The pros were incredibly knowledgeable, gave great coaching and cues, and were super friendly and inviting - special shout-out to Eric, Hank, and Mike! They have a wide selection of daily clinics available for different skill levels, which was great as somewhat beginner player. I highly recommend the centre and will certainly be back!

I have had tennis lessons at Palmetto Dunes over the years. Patrick Walker, Head Tennis Professional, has been great to work with. At 80 and still 4.0, he assists me with valuable tips and drills to reinforce his instructions. I am grateful for two tips he gave me on increasing forehand speed and ball toss placement. On court professionalism, consistency in skill development and humor has been rewarding in my improved techniques. He is always on my do do list when visiting Hilton Head Island. You can’t lose!

Two Sessions with Two Excellent Pros! My wife (4.0) and I (3.5) were at Palmetto earlier this month. We did two 90-minute sessions. One with Eric Wammock and one with Patrick Walker. Our session with Patrick was great! He got my wife to swing a with a little more power. She still has to practice it more to maintain consistency (as with any change) but it's needed as she sometimes place up at 4.5. The biggest takeaway I had is 11 more mph on my serve - no joke - I measured it on a speed clock when I got home. One little hitch correction on my swing made a world of difference to the power. Our session with Eric was also great! We did some drills and then he found an area we both needed to focus on... the smoothness and timing of our court movement - especially on balls that are farther away / harder to track down. We did a great drill that made us realize a little slower is OK. We could still get the ball and depending on shot selection get back into the play or go for a winner. Really helped us both. For me during a match I'm not tearing around the court as much now like it's do or die to get a ball to keep the play going (a little more control and a little better shot selection can work in these situations). I cannot say enough about this place and these two pros! We will definitely be back.

Eric, Patrick, and M.C. do an excellent job with the tennis clinics! They are very knowledgable and provide very good instruction and tips, with different topics each day. They bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm every day as well, and they take a real interest in helping you improve as a player.

Really enjoy the pickleball community at Palmetto Dunes. Wanted to commend Noa on her instruction and hosting the round robin events. Not only does she want everyone to compete and have fun but she also brings a good message. Tonight’s was “when you bring good energy to the court, good energy will come to you”. The Skull Creek Boathouse is a great place to go for seafood and Southern classics like po boy sandwiches. They have a sprawling, tree-shaded outdoor bar where you can get your hands dirty and deliciously dirty. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, perfect for enjoying such big food servings with your buddies.
Great food and atmosphere. We got the signature dishes (rainbow rice bowl, blackened catfish), and they were excellent. Hush puppies, California Roll, were great, kids loved them. My daughter got the fried shrimp, she didn't eat it, said it tasted like cardboard. She was correct, it was like a rubber grub coated in cardboard... Fortunately she was full from the appetizers. Great beer and drink selection. Great service. For how many people they were serving they were remarkably efficient, but I never felt rushed. Other than the fried shrimp it was great food and great experience.

Nice place for a family lunch, even sitting outside in December. The boathouse offers a nice mix of seafood, sushi and tacos. Service was solid. The one outstanding plate worth mentioning specifically was the surf and turf roll, and we had it topped with eel. Pretty great!

We arrived at 4:45 and were immediately seated inside because there was a wait for outside seating. At 5pm, there was a very long line of people waiting outside to put their name in for a table. Our server was good, but she was so busy that we had to ask a few times for things like an extra set of silverware for one of our kids who didn’t have any. Our seafood was cooked perfectly as were our kids’ steaks. We ordered 2 appetizers, 3 kids meals, and 2 entrees, as well as 2 drinks. With tax and tip, we paid more than $220-a little expensive.

Very cool place. Delicious food. Relaxing atmosphere. Like we ATE!! The staff was very friendly. Only issue was, and I hate to bring it up, the food service came out in 3 waves. We had some people done eating their dinner and some that have not got their meal yet. Then everyone watched as the final person got their dinner. The food was fabulous when it came out. That’s the only reason I gave a 4 star.

What a great seafood restaurant in Hilton Head Island. Incredibly courteous and polite staff! Their selections, let's say... superb with plenty to choose from.  The location is super convenient. Kudos to the Skull Creek Boathouse staff. We will definitely return again and again and again! If it were possible to give more than 5 stars, I would.
Andy Shizak — Google review
We enjoyed our lunch here today, our server Miriam was helpful but too busy to be too attentive. The food was decent, the mussels were large and served in a delicious cream tomato sauce. The beet salad was tiny and pricey for the amount of salad I received. The seafood chowder was a star, truly outstanding. It was nice to sit outside on a nice day and watch the sea birds.
Amanda M — Google review
Extremely busy place but the food is worth the wait. We ate outside in a great atmosphere by the water. Service was very attentive and everyone thought their food was delicious. Some of the best fried shrimp I have ever eaten. Other highlights were the cold bowls, chowder and key lime pie.

Had a really nice evening at Skull Creek! It's such a beautiful location, and the food was really fantastic. As a Northerner, I was originally skeptical of pimento on fish, but boy was it good! And the collard greens were flavorful and a little spicy (in a good way!). My party had a really nice evening here, and I would absolutely recommend it.
Alex Studd — Google review
Went on a Sunday at 4:00, make sure you ask for their early bird special menu “Sunset Supper” (4:00-5:30). Got seated outside right away. Fans kept everything cool, nice shade and ambiance. Was very happy with portion size’s being it was the early bird specials. The salads were generous, the ranch dressing A+. Seafood chowder was very good. Broiled and Fried Seafood trio came with filet of flounder and 3 shrimp/scallops each. Daughter had the Mahi tacos as was happy. Fried chicken sandwich was good. The only negatives- fries under seasoned and rice a tad on the dry side. “Cupcake” our waitress was attentive and kept our cold drinks full. Leaving at a little after 5:00 there was a line out the door just to put your name in, so get there early.

Skull Creek Boathouse in Hilton Head was the highlight of our trip! We had an incredible meal with zero wait at 5 pm on a Friday night. The infused jalapeño berry margarita was a refreshing delight. The blackened catfish with pimento cheese and collard greens were absolutely amazing. The patio had a fantastic atmosphere and vibe. We were tempted to go back twice because everything on the menu looked incredible, especially the wide variety of local seafood. Highly recommend to anyone visiting!

Skull Creek is a hidden gem on the Hilton Head Island. As an annual visitor I have come here a few times. This resturant ends up busy very quickly and does not reserve tables in advance. My recommendation is to get your complete party there early to ensure seating quickly. Food is great and the menu gives lots of options for seafood. Skull creek also offers many different seating options from bar to dinning to outdoor options too. Food has always been great too.
Crystal McCausland — Google review
Very busy place with 2 different restaurants right next to each other. Food was great! Everything tasted fantastic. Kids didn't like that the fried shrimp had tails. Drinks were solid. Lots of options. You can sit in or outside. Service was OK, probably due to the crazy busy spring break crowd. Would try again.

This restaurant is worth the wait. We arrived about 6pm and it was about a 45 min wait for first available seating. The food was delicious. My partner loved his steak and was raving about it all night. I ordered the shrimp and scallops and they were the best I ever had. The green beans were also delicious. Service was good !
M. K — Google review
Food was pretty good and our server Fred was awesome. We were a group of 8 so had to sit inside or wait 1 1/2 years at 5pm so if you want to sit outside you definitely need to get there early. We had a variety of food and everything was pretty good. I did the smaller of stuffed shrimp, scallops and crab cake. The place does a good job with service . The outdoor bar was super cool as well with the view of the water.
Andrea DiCastro — Google review
What a gorgeous place. The service was outstanding, as were the views. I got fried flounder, and it didn’t have much flavor. Tartar sauce, and the cocktail sauce were also pretty flavorless. What a gorgeous setting and other peoples food looked great.
BuckWild — Google review
The view was astounding and we loved every minute of our meal. We hadn't even ordered and an older lady was trying to rush us from the bar. She was informed that we hadn't even begun our meal. Everyone was trying to get our seats. If you want a less crowded environment and an opportunity to choose the best seat, arrive well before 5. We were recommended this place and it was a great suggestion. The menu has featured items from the Food Network as well!!

Nice restaurant with a great seafood selection! The inside is a little outdated but adds to the charm of this seaside restaurant. Our server was kind and quick with her service. Our party of 6 was served with relative speed and all our food came out hot.

Great place to unwind and fill your belly. The Bloody Mary was delicious. My husband had a beer. Enjoyed our meal. Had fried pickles for an appetizer. They serve fresh locally caught shrimp.

Last night we had an amazing meal! My husband got the largest snow crab legs I have ever seen. Twice the size of your typical snow crab. They were absolutely incredible and we will be back every time we are in town. Also, they had Peanut Butter Pie which we took back to the room and devoured together in bed. Ryan was our server and was friendly & knowledgable through the chaos of a busy Friday night. I had a shrimp boil, the corn was cooked to perfection (Indiana girl) Thanks for outstanding service, food & view!

Ate here a few times while we were in Hilton Head. Great atmosphere, we sat outside one night and saw a beautiful sunset. Also saw a gator going past. Service was good. Typical pricing and food. Be sure to visit the little shop across from entrance. Interesting souvenirs etc. Would definitely go again.

Such delicious food, along with great views, atmosphere, and service! I had the grilled salmon BAT, which was simply amazing. My daughter had the chilled seafood platter, and it was excellent 😋 They also have great kids' meals and so many choices on the menu. Definitely recommend this restaurant as a must for your list.

We want to thank Jesse and his team and the event planner for a wonderful evening for our son’s wedding rehearsal dinner and welcome party event. Each person on the team kept us mellow and pitched in to help throughout every part of the night. The food was delicious, the attendee service exceptional, and the atmosphere was delightful. Also, a special shoutout to the oyster roast guys. Everyone said that they had a great time. Thank you so much!!

One of my absolute favorite waterfront restaurants! Sit outside on a warm night and listen to great music. Good food and service. They don't take reservations so there is often a wait, but grab a beer and sit down by the water while you wait to get seated.

Beautiful view and great customer service! She crab soup was tasty on a cool Monday but was overloaded with celery. The fish plate was grouper, cod, and mahi mahi. I added a side of shrimp for 6/$10, not bad. The shrimp were very fresh and the batter was very good. The fish batter was different and very greasy. Next time I would stick with the shrimp. Collards were recommended but I would pass on that all together. Overall a great experience but will keep a few things in mind next time.

We ordered the deviled crab balls which were really good, the royal seafood sampler which was good but the scallops were a little bland and the vegetables were steamed and plain (no seasoning), and we got the monk fish which was very good but once again the vegetables were steamed and plain (no seasoning). Overall worth trying.

Seafood restaurant
Old Oyster Factory Restaurant is a waterfront restaurant overlooking Broad Creek that was voted one of the "Top 100 Scenic View Restaurants" by Open Table. The Restaurant specializes in seafood dishes and offers a wide menu with classic and contemporary dishes. It has breathtaking views of the marshland landscape and offers fantastic service.
Excellent selection of fresh delicious seafood. Alicia, our server was great and took fantastic care of us! We also had a beautiful view of the marsh and waterway. We had lunch there the day before and it was also excellent.
Randy Rowland — Google review
As a patron of Old Oyster Factory since my childhood in the 90s, I have many fond memories of good meals spent with family. Just this past week I had the chance to dine there with my own family and unfortunately, my nostalgia of good meals didn't match my current day experience. We had lunch this past week, and the place was practically empty. That was my first red flag. As a party of seven with an empty restaurant I expected service to be quick but the kitchen was very slow, and the quality of the food we received was disappointing to say the least. I ordered the fish/shrimp tacos for lunch. Not only was there an over abundance of cabbage on my tacos that made it hard to find or taste the seafood, but what should have been a dry dish was dripping liquid all over my plate leaving it soggy and unpleasant. My daughter ordered the kids pizza for lunch which was laughably tiny for eight dollars, only about five inches across, and tasted frozen. My mother ordered Fried Green Tomatoes, but was very displeased at what should have been a simple southern staple was over dressed with heavy melted pimento cheeses. My father had coleslaw that tasted as if it had gone past its sell by date, but said nothing because he didn't want to rock the boat. The only highlight of the visit were the five dollar mimosas that the adults of the table ordered. And while they took quite a while to arrive, they did taste very nice. The TL;DR is this: you are paying for a fabulous view and beautiful rustic decor. The food has lost its direction completely. Maybe dinner service is different, but the lunch service is just not worth it, as much as it pains me to say. As an old fan of the Old Oyster Factory, it makes me sad to see the direction the kitchen and menu has taken.

The seafood is very good. Nice raw bar and good selection of oysters on the half shell. The location is beautiful. Come near sunset for breathtaking view while dining on the outdoor patio. But like any place on the water, bring bug spray. Servers were very attentive and well mannered.

Some of the best seafood I have had in a while. The calamari was so fresh. It was chilly outside with a sun went down. So our server went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The service was absolutely amazing. They even surprised us with a complimentary slice of chocolate cake. Thank you guys so much for the experience. I cannot wait to come back and take the kids again. All of you are so wonderful. Many many many many thanks. And also kudos to the chef

I ate so many oysters I almost fell asleep at the table. Definitely some of the best me and my family have ever had! It was my sister’s birthday and the flavors made her day. I don’t know who slept one night, woke up and thought of putting collard greens, pimento cheese, and a fried oyster on a shell but let me tell you. It was a dangerously flavorful combination we all enjoyed. The hush puppies were perfect and my drink was drinking. Not to mention my raw, fresh, delectably delicious raw Mayfield oysters. Next time we will try some of the other dishes you have to offer. I’d recommend this spot to anyone! And thanks for taking care of my wife with that awesome salmon board. She’s allergic to shellfish but didn’t feel left out. Lastly, thanks Diego for the prompt and perfect service.

Jessica was our server. She was attentive without being annoying. She made sure we had what we needed, made thoughtful suggestions, and gave honest feedback about the menu items. The food was outstanding! I would recommend making a reservation. This is a family-friendly establishment with the option of eating inside or outside.

Great experience at the Old oyster Factory! Service by Attila and food were excellent. My wife had a Bloody Mary. For appetizers we had the Gumbo, bacon Shrimp and Oysters. For mains the Fied Seafood Platter and Seafood Fettuccini. Desert the Toffee Brownie with ice cream. Everything was great! The views, even from inside, are great. Do not pass this place up. Highly recommended!

We made reservations online for 9 pm. We did not know that there was a change in hours from 10pm to 9pm. We arrived at 9 and was graciously seated by the hostess. Once seat we were seated, our server Brittany came to the table and was absolutely wonderful. Brittany assured us not to rush, that the hours were just changed to 9pm. Brittany made us feel extremely welcomed. After a long drive from Maine, it was a pleasure to have such an amazing server that made us feel like family. We felt so blessed that everyone from the kitchen staff to the manager made us feel welcomed. Jill and I purchased the kitchen an end of the night beer for making us feel so welcomed and accommodating us. Then their is our server, who was absolutely amazing!!!! We can not say enough great things about Brittany. We truly felt like family. Thank you for everything, Brittany!!!

We are transplant New Yorkers, and we are very selective and fussy. The view, the service, the plating, the food, all exceptional. The plating is a big deal to us. I do not want so much food that I cannot see the plate!! This is one of our favorites. One time I actually dug a few oysters out of the low tide.

A relaxing meal overlooking the beauty of the Low Country. My brother raved about the sea scallops. I ordered the grilled halibut with pepper jack grits…flavorful. The grits were very creamy and absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and the entire experience was exceptional. highly recommend.

We love coming here whenever we're in town. Great food! Great service! Highly recommend coming. You won't regret it! If you come during happy hour, they offer 1/2 price oysters.
Michael Green — Google review
I would say the food was average. We had hush puppies which was plain cornmeal fried, no Onions or flavor. Husband had the seafood platter, the seafood was average, the fries were limp and tasteless so didn’t eat those. I eat vegetarian, so I got the fried green tomatoes. Which were good but could have used a little more pimento cheese. I will say the view is wonderful, right on the water. The inside and the outside of the restaurant is also very nice. Our waitress was great!

We are visiting Hilton Head and found this place online. We made a same day reservation and requested a table by a window. The staff was able to accommodate. Our server was Jevita and she was amazing! The restaurant was busy but service was still great. The food was delicious and I highly recommend this restaurant!

We have been getting to the Old Ouster factory annually for years on beach trips and every year it never fails to impress . The most recent visit we had Nick as our server who was plain excellent in his service . They have recently changed there menu to a smaller selection but the food is still top notch. The swordfish , Salmon , Steak and halibut are all great choices. Dessert here is also a must!!!

Okay, this restaurant was hands down the best food I've had in the region. It was genuinely fabulous. I told the waiter they'd have to pry the plate out of my cold dead hands because I took a pause from stuffing my face and they asked if I was done 😂 It came out hot. The sauce was perfectly balanced and seasoned and the pasta was right on point. Everyone at the table (6 of us) had great food and were really pleased with what they ordered. The menu is decently balanced with a nice selection of local produce and a good selection of wines and cocktails for those of you looking to have a drink with your meal. The wait staff were great and attentive. The view out across the water was lovely. It's a big place and it was absolutely packed, with a huge birthday party on the table next to ours, so it was loud. We didn't mind much, but if you have anyone in your party with sensory issues or problems with hearing, it's something you should be aware of. I didn't go for a wander around so I don't know if they had quieter spots.

This was the restaurant that my wife and I chose for the “nice restaurant” of the vacation. I will say, my wife and I never had an oyster before, but now I LOVE them!! I’m super thankful for the nice server I had. I am bummed I am horrible with names. He was taller, young, and lived in Bluffton. (Give this gentleman a raise haha) He was able to guide me through what I should get and where to start. The meals where amazing also!! I had the seafood pasta and my wife has the scallops. For once also, we got the calamari appetizer, and they gave you a lot!! Drinks where perfect also. Then what made is all amazing, was the beautiful view. It was stunning as the sun set. I highly recommend!!

My wife and I went here for our anniversary and wow we weren't disappointed. The food, service, and location were amazing. Kinda wish I had known to set a reservation so we could have dined inside, but eating outside wasn't so bad. A lot less noise and commotion on the deck. A big plus to eating outside was there was no wait for us. Had we wanted to eat inside the wait would have been over an hour. The view from the deck was absolutely gorgeous, especially as the sun began to set. If you're going to Hilton Head SC, we highly recommend you going to the OOF, even more so if you like seafood and oysters. We took an Uber there and back from our hotel thankfully as the parking lot was very full when we arrived.

Great service, views, and atmosphere to dine in, and the food was phenomenal, my only complaint is I wished the mussels were bigger. The saffron lemon caper butter sauce is a chef's kiss 🤤on the mussels & clams. The Savannah oysters were 🤤wished they would offer a trio platter to try the others, definitely coming back.

The food was outstanding. The service was just right. The views were spectacular. It was a nice birthday dinner for my daughter. The chocolate mousse was incredible. The grouper was delicious and the mashed potatoes were a great substitution for the wild rice pilaf.

The food was fantastic, the service was amazing. From start to finish, our experience was great. We had almost 40 people in our party, so I know it was a challenge. Our waitress never faltered. From the Crab fashioned to the chocolate chip cookie, it was all delicious. If I am in the area again, I will definitely stop here. If I could give it six stars, I would.
Barbie Moorhouse — Google review
We visited this place twice for happy hour during our trip. Half price raw oysters were good and you can't beat Blue Point oysters for $1.50 each. The hush puppies were delicious but honey butter would be better than cold, hard regular butter. We also enjoyed the grouper bites. Common issue I have with the local craft beers are they are double the price over bottled beer at happy hour. While they are good, this caused me to do bottles on our second visit. Great sunset views over the water and marsh. Very good service both times we went.

Evan & James, the Dream Team are the best servers I’ve seen in years. Fantastic service for an 11 top. Checks separated, easy peasy for 3 families at dinnner. Food was excellent. We had just about everything on the menu. Crab cakes, scallops, fillets were all fantastic.

This restaurant is dog friendly. They had a very nice patio with a view of the marsh. The server treated our dog as a guest bringing her a big bowl of ice water. Good selection of seafood with mid day specials. I had the peel and eat shrimp and a Greek salad, my husband had the chicken waffles , and our friend had the shrimp tacos. Food was delicious.
Alexis Wachal — Google review
I enjoyed Hilton Head’s Old Oyster Factory restaurant, but I unfortunately was not that impressed by the food. I wish I had pictures, but the proportions were extremely small for the price. As far as flavor, I would give 3 stars as well. Maybe my expectations were too high. At least the atmosphere and views were beautiful.

Hudson's Seafood House is a family-owned and operated seafood restaurant located on the docks of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The restaurant partners with local fishermen to get the freshest catches possible, and serves up delicious seafood dishes such as oysters, shrimp, and crabs in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Dogs are welcome at outside tables at Hudson's Seafood House On The Docks.
Hudson’s is one of my favorite places to come and eat on Hilton Head. I first came here in 2017 at the recommendation of multiple locals. Outdoor or indoor seating. Fresh local fish and shrimp. Great place for oysters too. We enjoyed the Oysters Rockefeller, a lettuce wedge salad, seafood gumbo, she crab soup, and a blackened catch of the day fish sandwich; all good. The seating outside is great on a deck/dock. There are shade of umbrellas for the tables and very nice covered bar. I recommend you come here. FYI there is over flow parking before you each the restaurant.

Our first time at HH and Hudson’s was amazing! The outdoor deck on the water is the perfect spot. Service and food were excellent, such great staff. We were made very welcome and people randomly helped out keeping things moving- (the owner happened by and bussed an oyster bucket and shells from our table). Both our server Alejandro “Alex” and William the manager were attentive and informative about specialties and various dishes. Our first time but definitely not our last. We tried the seafood gumbo, coconut shrimp, steamed oysters and a crab cake. All were fresh, well seasoned and presented beautifully. Thank you again for a lovely afternoon.

A good family seafood restaurant to go to when visiting Hilton Head Island, the fish is fresh, and the restaurant overlooks the water. Our server Shaw did a great job explaining the menu and the daily special. Expect a long wait before being seated in the summer.

Very very busy but lots of parking. We got in after 3 so had to eat on the patio. Inside closed between 3 and 5. Still very busy. Our server was fantastic. He was attentive, funny and knew the menu. Our Fish and chips were large portions. Halibut was flakey and fresh. Shrimp and grits were good. Shrimp was cooked well not too spicy and grits were smooth. Red rice and sausage were tasty. It can be very sunny and hot on the patio.

Excellent customer service. Perfectly cooked blackened fish in our tacos. Had both bacon wrapped and fried oysters - both tender and delicious. My fiancé likes to fancy himself a foodie... said the deviled crab was the best crab dish he’s ever had. Beautiful waterfront views from the outdoor dining area.

Was on a trip and looking for a great seafood place to eat. Settled on Hudson’s for our choice. This was our first time at Hudson’s and it did not disappoint. We arrived around 6:30 and it was beyond packed. I got our name on the list for two and was given an hour and a 15 minute estimated wait time. Larger groups were looking at 2 hours. You could get your name on list for outside sitting that had about a 15 min less wait time from what I was hearing. At first glance, the place looks a bit run down and small from the outside but inside was very clean and larger than originally thought. There were long benches around the outside to sit but it was a bit hot but to be expected in the summer. There was a beautiful view of the water and docks on the side of the restaurant with both an inside and outside bar to order drinks from. We tried the strawberry daiquiri and it was delicious. Our non-alcoholic one was $9 and was smaller that a Dixie cup. To our great delight, we were called to our seating within 40-45 minutes of putting our name on the list. Our waiter was friendly and came to check on us throughout our meal. We both ordered She-crab soup which was delicious and the Neptune Seafood Platter blackened and paid a little more to have sword fish as our chosen fish. The platter was huge and consisted of fried oysters, stuffed crab and blackened shrimp, scallops, sword fish, baked potato, slaw and hush puppies. I can say there was nothing on our plate that was not absolutely delicious. With tip, we paid right at $138. Had we not upgraded our fish and skipped the She-crab soup it would have been around $118. This was probably one of the best seafood platters I’ve ever eaten so the cost was justified for a high quality meal. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area. You will have to be patient but the meal is worth the wait.

Wonderful time sitting outside on the water. Nice little outside bar and plenty of tables to eat and drink. I ordered the fried green tomatoes to share along with the chef salad. There are a lot of shrimp and seafood plates to choose from. Would highly recommend to eat at. Also has inside dining. Casual attire is fine. The waiter was so efficient and friendly.

Awesome experience. Great food, fantastic service, beautiful views. Despite how incredibly busy it was the servers are very attentive. The Neptune's platter is a great sampler. Crab cake was expensive but well worth it (was our favorite thing we ordered). Note: for anything marked "market price" for how much it cost, make sure you ask what that is so you aren't shocked when you get the bill.

Best fish fry on Hilton Head Island. Fresh seafood is brought in daily by local fishermen including shrimp, flounder, oysters, and much more depending on season. The staff is very friendly, and the food is delicious. Order whatever you're craving, and save a little room for the hush puppies! Notable delicacies include the fried flounder, deviled crab, fried shrimp, and the po' boys. Blackened shrimp tacos were also a hit! Nice selection of cocktails, wine and beer as well. Bring the whole family, eat well, and leave happy!

First time to Hudson’s and I’ll for sure be returning! Freshest seafood ever!…I’ve been all over the globe & this is FRESH! We tried it all; raw & fried oysters, boiled shrimp, crab cake, red snapper, grouper and flounder! Oh & the hush puppies were pretty special-much smaller so the outer crunch factor ratio to the tender center was spot on! Thanks Jeff (our waiter) & William (the manager) you were knowledgeable & friendly which made my first time to Hudson’s FANTASTIC! Key lime pie was excellent too!

We ate indoors and it can be loud and busy because the place is so popular. But, the service and food are phenomenal which is really saying something because I am not a big fish eater. But the salmon salad was AMAZING. probably best salmon I've ever had. We had 6 people with us and everyone loved their meal. My 32 year old son had the snow crab and he said it was fantastic. We even took the risk and ordered dessert and LOVED THAT TOO! Which was a pleasant surprise since their specialty is fish we weren't expecting much from desert. Overall, everything was wonderful.
ragan kontes — Google review
The food was delicious from the appetizer to the peanut butter pie. Had the blackened seafood platter, crab cakes were very well done, lots of crab. Shared the platter with my 16 yr old son as we went for a late lunch. Sat on the deck overlooking the water. It’s a must try for your visit, from NY and would not say this for some of the other meals I’ve experienced in HHI.

Hudson's on the River is a Hilton Head institute. The hush puppies alone are worth the visit (if I could steal them in my purse, I would). Sit outside, weather permitting. Try to time it so you'll be there at sunset. There is something magical about the sun sitting on the marsh lands. Order seafood. The shrimp is so fresh, caught right there. This is a must do/ see in Hilton Head. Buy the shirt, take the pictures, you deserve Hudson's.
Janelle S — Google review
The best hush puppies on HHI! I recommend ordering hush puppies on the side ($3.50). Tasty food for good prices. Staff was friendly, and the outdoor seating was very nice. I had a BLT and my husband had shrimp. We ordered extra hush puppies on the side because they were so good. A great place to have lunch or dinner!

I really like being out on the dock at Hudson's. I did not go inside, but the outside seating and the dock seating were great. I was not a fan of someone walking by restaurant customers on the way to the boats while smoking. The service was fast, thorough, and friendly. Our needs were met very quickly and without having to ask. The food was okay but I really wasn't impressed. The slaw was vinegar based, the potato salad tasted of celery and were very slightly creamy, and the hush puppies were sweet but bland. I had the fish and substituted (fresh) flounder for (frozen) cod, and it was okay but it didn't really stand out. The shrimp was lightly battered and really good. French fries, again, standard. The water was good and did not have any weird aftertaste, though I am not a fan of paper straws. Parking is a little bit tricky due to the nature of the docks and the two restaurants. They do have a really decent amount of overflow parking within a reasonable walking distance. Overall, I am glad that I went and gave them a try.

Amazing! Had my birthday dinner here. We got there later than we wanted and there was a 1.5 hour wait for outdoor seating. We didn’t mind because there was a nice deck waiting area where we had cocktails and watched the sunset. Wish I would’ve brought a jacket though because it gets cold after sunset on the water. Food and service was incredible. We even saw the boat come in to deliver the freshest catch. Highly recommend!

As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Depending on your previous experiences of seafood dinning this place may be good. To me it was mediocre. Would I return, no. The hush puppies tasted better than my whole dish. I had the Neptune platter. Try it if you must, but I would not make a special trip. The service was good though. These ladies were really nice.

Hudson's is one of my favorite seafood restaurants that I have ever been to. I have been to Hilton Head 4 times and make a point to get to Hudson's. Our Server was being trained by another Server. The experienced Trainer was able to make suggestions on our meal choices, which were perfect when the food came out. The menu is huge. I can't make a menu recommendation due to the fact that everything is good. I have never been disappointed in the food or service at Hudson's. My recent visit didn't disappoint.

Great meal. Went for lunch. Wanted a place on the docks. Fishing boats right there. Specials change based on what’s coming in. Local shrimp were beautiful. Gumbo and grits with egg was so cool. Will come back!!

Well, the place is very nice and very large, it has several indoor dining rooms and a beautiful terrace. The team of workers are all phenomenal, very attentive and helpful, but not the food. We ordered the Neptune platter thinking of sharing and what a disappointment. Very poor and frozen and old fish. We got very frustrated because we saw other dishes coming out that looked much better, honestly they should remove it from the menu since it is not worth the price. Another thing we didn't like was the coleslaw, very strong vinegar, inedible.

Even though we’ve been to HHI several times, this was our first time dining at Hudson’s. The hush puppies were the best I’ve ever had. Shrimp was fresh and delicious. And we enjoyed a beautiful sunset as we walked out to the dock right after dinner. Excellent food and service, will definitely return again!

Great spot to check out when you are on vacation! Beautiful decor outside and in! Lovely waterside seating or just stand while waiting and take a few pics! We were seated quickly on a busy night. Our server was attentive and very friendly/knowledgable of the menu. We thought he was the owner the way he presented everything! Food was delish! Our favs were the crab cakes and the bling bling shrimp! Perfection! Food came out in a timely manner, great atmosphere and again excellent service!

A Lowcountry Backyard Restaurant is a small, family-friendly restaurant that exudes southern charm. The menu features seafood, sandwiches, and soul food classics such as shrimp and grits. There is also a kid-friendly menu, as well as family meal platters perfect for sharing. The backyard setting with swings, plants, and fire pits is charming and adds to the atmosphere of the restaurant.
This place offers a spell it home school chill vibe with great Lowcountry food. We got sat immediately and had a party of seven. Great atmosphere. All the drinks are served in mason jars. They had a great outdoor seating section with the biggest umbrella I’ve ever seen. We had great appetizers the crab dip and mussels are delicious. Everything came out quick and was warm and flavorful. My wife and I split the Lowcountry boil and it was superb. Add the candy bacon on the BLT salad was a big hit. We got the banana pudding for dessert and it was holiday badges good not quite as good as my wife’s homemade stuff but it was up there. I recommend this place for call dependable into a family meal South Carolina family meal.

A must-stop restaurant for your time in Hilton Head. We showed up on a busy rainy Friday evening, and waited about 25 minutes for a party of 2 and sat out on the patio. It was warm, and fairly covered so we only got a little wet. We had the shrimp & wild mushroom cobbler with mashed potatoes, and the swordfish sandwich (catch of the day) with grits. Once we ordered, we had our food in less than five minutes- perfectly cooked and at a proper temperature. Amazing experience, incredibly friendly and kind staff. Overall, the swordfish was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever tasted! Again, I cannot recommend you visit A Lowcountry Backyard Restaurant enough!

Word or warning, if you want to come here for dinner there will most likely be a line up. We were a group of six and it was a 40 minute wait when we arrived at 630 on a Monday night. So we decided to come back the next day for lunch, when the place had far fewer people and no wait. Highly recommend the shrimp and grits or the Charleston fried green BLT. We got those and were super happy. I'd never had shrimp and grits so can't compare, but the meal was very tasty! We came back a second day and got more yummy food including the catch of the day sandwich (Corvina) and crab cake sandwich. Both were also great. We also got the bannana pudding and a moonshine margarita and blackberry lemonade. All were great!

We’re traveling from out of town and found this spot on our way to our stay. It’s a small local restaurant with amazing food and service, thanks to Paige! Hands down the best crab cake (sandwich) I’ve ever had. Super moist and packed with flavor and look at the size! The collard greens were perfect and not heavily salted and buttered like I’ve had at other spots. The shrimp & grits was fresh and greatly seasoned. Same goes with Bischick where the gravy wasn’t heavy and the chicken was thin and breaded to perfection! Don’t forget the flight of moonshine as well! We highly recommend eating here and supporting their business!

Best meal I have had down here yet. By a long shot…the shrimp and grits?!? Stupid good. The pimento cheese dip? Seriously. It’s just above anything else. Service was prompt. We sat outside under a large canopy/tent/umbrella. Fun vibe. Would absolutely come back again. Maybe even tomorrow…!

Great little place on Hilton Head Island. Kind of hard to find but it’s worth the hunt. We shared shrimp and grits, which were very good. Had a blackened Wolf fish (that was a new one for me) sandwich that was very tasty and perfectly done. Had a side of Mac and cheese which was so-so (a bit dry), was the only negative of the meal. Banana pudding finished the dinner off. Cute patio, friendly staff.

It hurts me to give them four stars but my last visit was not as good as the two prior. I love the shrimp and grits and I more than love the purloo, but for some reason I tried the meatloaf sandwich. While the side of collards was amazing, the meatloaf wasn’t great. Also disappointing was the service this time. Not horrible but a little rough. Also the cocktails, though good we’re not quite cold enough. An odd issue I don’t often run into. So here’s my advice order the crab dip, the purloo, and banana pudding. Then make sure you are sitting in Angela’s section. I don’t think there’s much to be done about the warm drinks but if you follow the other advice you’ll give Lowcountry five stars.

This place. Charming ✔️ Local flavor ✔️ Sassy staff ✔️ I wanted a lunch that screamed low country, and I found it here. The shrimp and grits, forget about it! No, wait, you'll never forget about it. You'll dream of them in your sleep they are so good! Sit in the courtyard, it is full of ambiance. Casual attire. Casual atmosphere. Worth the visit!

We ate here twice in a week, getting take-out the second time after our meal so we could have their food a third time! Absolutely love the food. Impressed by the range of gluten-free, vegan/veg and local options. We loved: Shrimp and grits Mashed potatoes Fried green tomatoes and the sauce that comes with it Catch of the day sandwich (it was mahi mahi) on gluten free bread Tofu sandwich on gluten free bread Collards Lowcountry burger Also, Cookie is an excellent server and took time to make sure we got what we wanted in the best way.

Loved this place so much! Great outdoor seating for many families with a little waterfall and fun statues for the kids to see. Seafood here was DELICIOUS! I highly recommend the Seafood Purloo that had just the right about of spice and a wonderful flavor throughout. Great kids menu as well that had some tasty options for even picky eaters.

What a find! This tucked out of the way place is great! My husband had the shrimp and grits (really good), I had the shrimp blt salad (yummy). We also tried the banana pudding and key lime pie. Both were great, my favorite was the key lime pie. It was better than what I had in the Keys! If you go, I hope you have Cookie for your server.. she's the bomb!

This was our first time at the Backyard and we both agreed it was the best meal we’ve had on the island in two weeks! The lowcountry fare is rare and a treat for those of us from ‘up north’. The Shrimp & Grits were the best with the Seafood Purloo coming in a strong second. And don’t forget the Banana Pudding. We sat outside on the patio under umbrellas listening to soft guitar hits that were not too loud. And the wait staff did a great job.

This restaurant is amazing! We found it last year and came back to eat here again. Their dishes are truly unique and delicious! Absolutely love the Shimp and wild mushrooms cobbler! Wife says the homemade Thousand Island dressing is the best she's ever had. The Key Lime pie was tart and yummy! Music is a throwback to old rock and roll and atmosphere is comfortable and laid back.

Saw a lot of good reviews about this place and I was super excited to go try it. I feel like I came into this restaurant with high expectations and I was just a little disappointed when it didn’t meet them. Everyone was talking about the seafood Purloo online and my fish was very rubbery and the rice had way too much tomato paste. Overall, the flavor of the dishes were very good and the shrimp and grits are worth trying here. The lobster bisque didn’t really taste like lobster and had an excessive amount of heavy cream. The desert however, was amazing . The banana pudding was sweet, creamy, and a great texture. The ambience of the place was very nice and they did have live music. The outside dining area is a little tight, but overall was a good experience.

Tried the Today's Catch Sandwich, Shrimp and Grits, Lowcountry Burger (not pictured), Seafood Purloo (not pictured), and banana pudding over multiple visits over a couple of years. All are delicious, and this restaurant has become a must-visit for me and my family whenever we come to Hilton Head Island. I cannot recommend it enough. Special shout-out to the banana pudding, it is the best banana pudding I've ever had, and every time I return I must have it again.

Phenomenal meal!! We got the fried green tomatoes to start - out of this world!! The homemade ranch & sweet pickles were the perfect accompaniment ..then he got the shrimp & grits & I got the wild mushroom & shrimp cobbler..inarguably in the top three meals I’ve ever had. Plus add two moonhattens with apple moonshine..chefs kiss.

A server at another restaurant actually recommended this place. We got seated (outside) right away. The food came out super fast! I got the shrimp and grits and the wife got the burger. Both were excellent. Not so excellent was having to constantly ward off the flies during the meal. Service was marginal. Had to go find ketchup and mustard myself. I would come back but would definitely wait for an inside table.

The Salty Dog Cafe is an iconic waterfront cafe with a casual vibe, deck seating, and an outdoor bar. The cafe features a seafood-focused menu and is known for its amazing views of boats and the water. In addition to great food, the cafe has classic beach town decor and a fun atmosphere perfect for enjoying a meal while taking in the sights and sounds of Marina.
Best Setting. Best Menu. Best Service. Best Food. Even saw an EAGLE soaring across the waterway in hunt of a meal. What else does one need when visiting Hilton Head? NOTHING except a place to sleep. Everything is exceptional so further praise is not needed!

Beautiful scenery and excellent food. I had the fish tacos, which were fresh and flaky. Due to a shellfish allergy, my colleague had the South beach roll which contained lobster and shrimp. She stated that as a Northerner, she approves highly of the lobster. The roll was lightly buttered and the lobster to shrimp ratio was fantastic. Be prepared to pay $9 to enter Sea Pines just to enter the neighborhood to come to this establishment.

We had breakfast here this morning and WOW, it was amazingly delicious. We had the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, French Toast and Belgian Waffles. All were the best breakfast we’ve eaten in a long time. The staff was all very friendly and service was superb. We highly recommend this establishment if you are in the area!

Visited on a Wednesday afternoon in March and had no trouble finding a table outside. If you have the option, I highly recommend enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery from an umbrella covered table as we enjoyed it much better than sitting inside. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful when it came to selecting something off the menu. With a place as famous as The Salty Dog Cafe, one would expect the food not to live up to the hype, but that’s not the case for this iconic restaurant. I highly recommend starting off with an order of hush puppies as they’re nothing short of incredible. With a sweeter taste and paired with butter, these amazing doughballs will sure be a crowd favorite. I also opted in for the Salmon BLT which was cooked perfectly and delicious. The group also enjoyed the Gator Melt which was full of flavor, the Big Boss Sandwich which was perfect for our seafood hating friend, and the cast net with scallops (which we expected to come grilled, but instead was fried). Overall, our experience here at the salty dog was nothing short of great as this iconic location continues to reign supreme. We hope to visit again and encourage others to do the same!

OMG! I wish I could eat here every day! The food was so delicious! The soup was more like a stew oh my goodness it was so good! Had to end it with of course Key Lime pie that was…..beyond words I do not know where I found the room to fit it but after someone else ordered their slice I had to get one as well. So if you are looking for some good home cooked food this is the place you will not be disappointed! Also have to say our server was such a sweetheart and so kind best service!

The Salty Dog is an iconic stop here on Hilton Head. I had the burger and it was pretty good but the tomato slice was hard and bitter. If it was December I might overlook it but it’s July in South Carolina and there is no shortage of places to get great local tomatoes. It made what could have been a great burger into a mediocre one. The service was great but I wouldn’t pay the $9 to get in Sea Pines and drive all the way over here to eat again.

Out door area was very nice. Seated quickly. All of our food was stellar. The new-to-the-menu shrimp was fried with an amazing sauce. Some if the best we’ve eaten. The view was magnificent. Parrots around the corner are a plus. Our waitress was amazing.

This was a great spot off the water to go! Food was average, but the service and atmosphere were great! We didn't order anything spectacular (chicken sandwich and Mac & cheese), so perhaps the other dishes would be better. Very seafood heavy menu, but have a few other non-fish options available. The bartenders were fantastic and the drinks were tasty and well made. The bar is on the marina and there is also a neighboring shop and ice cream spot. The pizza spot was closed for the season. We enjoyed sitting and having drinks and dinner on a nice summer evening. There was also great live music! Freshly popped popcorn was a nice added touch. We also did the Salty Dog Sunset Cruise which is highly recommended!

The food was amazing - but I really came on here to compliment our server. Probably the most amazing service my boyfriend and I have had while visiting Hilton Head. I didn't catch his name, but he was a black gentleman with a bit of an accent. Even though they were very busy, he made sure we had everything we needed and was very sweet and kind the entire time. He definitely made our last night at Hilton Head a memorable one. Many blessings to him! ❤️

January 1 2021 was the perfect day to visit. No crowd. No wait. Great food that included rare seared tuna and a salmon BLT with peppered bacon that was crispy delicious. Our server had that cool vibe where he knew the menu and made sure we got prompt service. Bonus...The bathroom walls have cool barn wood look.

Really enjoyed it. This place is pretty good but it's pretty expensive compared to other places with the same quality food. That being said, you're also paying for the atmosphere. It's right next to the water, they have a guy singing and playing the guitar on the back deck, tons of outdoor seating. We had the shrimp gumbo bowl (9/10), the seafood pasta (9/10), the shrimp and grits (7/10), Mahi fish bites appetizer (10/10 GET THESE!) They were absolutely phenomenal! Also the Jambalaya pasta- a little spicy and packed with sausage (9/10). The most important thing to take away from this review is, each one of these meals is probably enough to feed 2.5 people. The dishes are sooooo incredibly big, you could easily split one with someone. We had so many leftovers to take with us. Plan for around $40 per person and sit where you can see the boats coming in on the water.

I’m in love! This place was wonderful. The food was amazing and you get a hearty portion with all the dishes. It was also fresh tasting and my shrimp was cooked to perfection. Lastly the staff was AMAZING. It’s worth the money of a $9 parking pass. I will be back!

Beautiful location on the water in Sea Pines, an exclusive area of Hilton Head Island. Although she was new, our server was very kind and helpful. The food was good but not great, but we really enjoyed the drinks. We started with the gator bites, which were interesting but not loved by everyone. They were a bit too salty and the sweet chili sauce seemed out of place, although the meat itself was fine. The she-crab soup arrived cold but tasted much better after being warmed up. The shrimp and grits were good but not the best we’ve tried. The standout was the seafood mac and cheese, which blew me away! Definitely the best dish we tried and I’d return for that alone. Salty Dog is worth the trip since it’s an iconic Hilton Head location, but it’s also a huge tourist destination and therefore a bit overpriced. Check out the T-shirt shop for some awesome souvenirs and to see the parrots!

It's a really nice spot next to the water. They have indoor and out door seating. And the food is delicious! They also have their own merchandise/souvenir store, a t shirt factory, and an ice cream factory. Worth the visit. Recommend not missing this place when visiting Hilton Head Island.

Visited on Easter Sunday for dinner and then the sunset happy hour cruise. The food was very good as well as the service. They even had luve music on the dock. Then we got on the boat for a very nice 1.5 hour sunset cruise. Had a few beverages on the boat, watched some dolphins and the sun set. It was a very enjoyable experience.

We got a table easily for a group of four adults and two children. Our waiter was Shaine and he was simply amazing! He made our experience there one of our highlights on our vacation. The kids loved the booklet of activities and it kept them very entertained. He engaged with them as much as he did with the adults. You absolutely have to have the hush puppies! They make ‘zillions’ of them there and rightly so! Yum! Two of us had the shrimp tacos and they were fantastic. Big shrimp and a tasty sauce on it. The food and atmosphere are great here. A must do when you are in Hilton Head in my opinion.

Salty Dog is a popular spot, and there’s a reason. It’s a great place to spend some time dockside with ok food and a good vibe. This time we went for breakfast at around 9:30am. We were pleasantly surprised to be able to get a table without a wait. At this point in the morning the menu offered only breakfast items, but there was a breakfast burger as well as breakfast oriented fish tacos if one felt more in the mood for an early lunch. We ordered coffees and juices, and the wait time was substantial and a bit annoying seeing as there were only about 4 tables being served. The food itself was standard breakfast fare. It was good, not special, and the portions were huge. The Bloody Mary was not that good, especially for the price. Overall, Salty Dog is worth visiting, but this is a beach bar, not a fine dining establishment.

We were seated overlooking the pier and was a lovely sight. However the food was just 'ok" We started with hush puppies for an appetizer. They were warm, sweet and toasty, but the chilled butter was so cold it crumbled. My shrimp po-boy was fried and would have been nice to have a blackened option. The bun was slightly chilled. Perhaps steaming it would be nice? Husband had a shrimp basket - again fried was the only option. Served on a plate. Shouldn't a "basket meal" be served in a basket? Both of our meals were served with an ample amount of hot fresh fries.

Sitting outside looking over the sound ,the smell of the wood burning logs in the fire pit on a chilly December day , Christmas lights on the decks. Beautiful atmosphere. We were not very hungry but we wanted to try this place and relax for a bit. I had the hush puppies with honey butter and my husband had French fries very good on both If you're in this area make sure to add this to your stops .
