Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Maui Ocean Center, also known as The Aquarium of Hawaii, is a 5-acre family-friendly attraction showcasing a diverse array of marine species. Visitors can view living reefs and rare corals in the turtle lagoon, as well as watch sharks, rays and large fish interact in the impressive Open Ocean exhibit. One particularly remarkable feature is the 3D humpback whale sphere that will amaze visitors.
Great place to learn about the ocean and the history of Hawaii. The fish tanks are beautiful. It has a tide pool where you can touch star fish and other sea animals. The best part is the shark tunnel where sharks can swim over your head and under your feet. Awesome place for families, couples or by yourself.
Rachel Park — Google review
Beautiful center filled with phenomenal displays, a theater, and amazing aquariums and a glass tunnel where fish and sea-life swim around and over. The 14-minute humpback whale 3D film experience is breathtaking and powerful. You can almost touch the whales swimming in front of you in your comfy reclining seats (and viewing is part of the ticket cost). Live sharks, fish, turtles, and sting rays are abundant… and the property and vistas are majestic of both the mountain side with the huge wind turbines and the harbor and Pacific Ocean. The Hawaiian history and marine life educational films and displays were insightful. The gift shop is one of the most robust I’ve been in. Clean bathrooms. A nice coffee and snack shop. Lots of benches and seating. Ample parking.
Tom Anderson — Google review
The 3D IMAX whale movie is beautiful but a little short. The 3D glasses are very heavy. The rest of the exhibits are very educational. Enjoyed the staff discussion when they were feeding the green sea turtles which they do four times a day. There's paid parking up close but just on the other side of that lot is free parking when you first pull off the road well worth saving a few bucks you just have to walk a few extra steps.
Kirk Scharein — Google review
Been here when I was a kid, went on a date here, and brought my son here on a couple occasions. It’s just as I remembered and more. During our last outing here for a 1st birthday party, we ran into Dan a few times while exploring the aquarium and he is a full of great information. He added to the experience and made it much more enjoyable. The jelly fish tank, the shark tunnel, the playground area, and the tide pool are the must dos. Will definitely be back for another experience soon.
Malulani P — Google review
This is a great aquarium to visit for people of all ages. It's clean and the animals appear to be well cared for. We spent several hours visiting each exhibit. It was so fun watching the sea turtles swim around. They are truly magical creatures. The shark tank was super exciting as well. You walk through a tunnel and the sharks are swimming all around you. Overall, its a great place to visit.
Wander And Travel — Google review
Not the biggest aquarium but really pretty and well made, easily half a day if you take your time the whole day. The 3D whale experience was the most impressive 3D movie I've ever seen, up close to these majestic creatures in every detail and a sound system that let's you feel their songs! I was breathless! This alone was worth every penny!
Tanja Awesome — Google review
Incredible! The humpback experience alone was worth the price of admission. When you pay to park, get the max and take time to check out the shops and restaurants in the village. Wear sunscreen as many of the exhibits are outdoors. We're a family of 4 (both kids under 8) and the kids both had a great time. The shark tunnel was really cool and we happened to get there right at feeding time! Everyone we encountered was helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.
Liz Welch — Google review
Very nice aquarium with lots of historical information and great displays. Easy to spend several hours here. Parking is additional so it is a bit pricey but worth it for a unique experience.
David VerHoef — Google review
This is the most incredible aquarium I've been to. It's an inside, outside one. The sphere was terrific, and you learned much about humpback whales in 15 minutes. Definitely hang out and watch the feeding of the sharks and other fish in the big tank. So cool!
Tina Burch — Google review
My family thoroughly enjoyed this aquarium. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The 3D humpback whale experience was amazing. There was lots of sharks (black top, white top and grey). They have 4 different types of moray eels, garden eels, octopus, jellyfish, stingrays, green sea turtles and so many different kinds of fish. There is even an interactive sand box that allows you to create islands and oceans. You do have to pay to park in the lot ($2/hr or $8 for 5 hours)
Adam Humenuik — Google review
This aquarium is amazing. I underestimated how much there is to learn here. You can spend a whole day here and I'd recommend it. Their tanks are incredible, and the whale movie is really special. Their gift shop is ridiculously cool, boasting everything from books, toys, cooking items, decorations, art, and jewelry. It was so good we came back the next day just to pick up some items we really wanted. The Seascape restaurant next to it is 10/10 quality. Pricey, but you probably won't find a better meal, maybe on the island.
Evan Tumminello — Google review
Excellent in every way - the 3D humpback experience is worth the price of admission alone!! Highly recommend this stop on your visit, was one of the highlights of our 9-day trip, and we nearly blew it off. See it and leave plenty of time to explore the exhibits. Great place!
S. H. — Google review
One of the best aquariums I’ve ever been to. I love the connections and stories they provide in relation to Hawaiian culture, heritage, and history. The gift shop is phenomenal - so many unique items, including coloring books made by a local artist. The touch tank had wonderful sea creatures all harmless and interesting to touch - including starfish, sea cucumber, and sea urchin). Would def go back, and try to see their feeding times (I missed all of these because we couldn’t find the times to plan around then and we ended up going in the afternoon so we didn’t have as much time to be able to see any, and there were limited available at that time frame).
Jenn Islam — Google review
Great little gem. We popped in here for something quiet to do and we were not disappointed. The facility is fairly priced and has a great selection of animals and displays to keep everyone at all ages happy. Fish looked healthy and displays were clean and well presented with a great amount of information around. Staff were really friendly and really passionate about the animals on display.
Jason Griffin — Google review
Price for entrance is $30-$40 depending on… adult, child, senior or kamaaina (local resident). It was well worth the price we paid for. We saw lots of ocean animals and it was pleasant. Suggestion to add description to all fishes and coral that are on display. Some did not have name so we didn’t know what the amazing animal was called.
V B — Google review
Super aquarium with a great setup and wonderful use of indoor and outdoor spaces. Great 360 degree 3D movie on the way out is a great way to cap off the experience. We particularly enjoyed the turtles, the local fish information, and the history of Maui that was provided along the way. The sharks are beautiful and fascinating in an alien sort of manner, and the jellyfish are graceful yet creepy to watch with their massive stinging potential. The informative signage everywhere answered all of our questions, but there were always staff members around in case questions were not covered or if anyone needed assistance. We enjoyed our visit a lot and would recommend this to visitors of any age.
U. Speckman — Google review
The sea life living at the Maui Ocean center is plentiful and varied. The tanks are beautiful and the exhibits are really well maintained. The shark tank is especially exciting. I didn't have children with me but there were lots of kids at the Ocean center and it was wonderful to see the amazement on their faces. The staff is friendly and very helpful.
Laura Willman — Google review
The Maui Ocean Center was a very beautiful place. The whale video in the sphere was also a very interesting experience and a must see. We enjoyed seeing all of the wildlife. They also had a couple of people creating grass flowers/ fish for souvenirs. Overall great experience!
Cilena Wood — Google review
We had a free Sunday so decided to check out the aquarium. We've been to many aquariums and while this one is smaller than ones at home (Monterey Aquarium and Long Beach Aquarium) it is still worth the visit. We saw quite a bit of Hawaiian fish, enjoyed "petting" some starfish and sea cucumbers, watched the sea turtles, and of course loved the big tank with sharks. The 3D movie was definitely a fun experience - wish it was a bit longer only because it was so amazing. Recommend buying tickets online - I believe there's a slight break in price.
Sheri Freitas — Google review
Mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits, very cool to see all the different marine life and how it relates to Maui's nature ecosystem. The tunnel is an incredible experience and you are able to get amazing photos. We really enjoyed the Humpback 3D sphere experience -- very well produced and felt like you were right there under the water with the whales! It's pricey to go, and it was a little bit smaller than I expected. But still worth it! Staff were all very friendly and the gift shop has lots of good finds!
Laurel Hanna — Google review
Medium sized, clean, and vibrant aquarium. Maybe a little pricey to get in, but the fee goes towards great programs set up in the state and that the aquarium is a part of as well. Just as expected, nature conservation and historical education on Hawaiian/Polynesian culture is the main staple of this center. They do a fantastic job teaching you about sea life in simple yet educational ways with many interactive areas, also in their Hawaiian culture exhibit. Tickets in advance are cheaper than in person.
A Hatter — Google review
It was a great experience, I wanted to update the price. As it is now $55.44 per adult person and $3.00 plus a $2 fee an hour to part it took us 2.5 hours we could have stayed longer. So we his was more pricey than we expected, but glad we went. The 3D whale video was amazing, you felt like you could reach out and touch them. The images are of the big tank where a diver was explaining and feeding the fish.
Jay Weaver — Google review
Great place to visit. Really enjoyed the living reef exhibit as well as the turtle exhibit. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. The 3-D sphere was super cool! Expect to spend about 2 hours enjoying the various exhibits, and maybe 2.5 hours if you really want to take in the high volume of information throughout the ocean center.
Tyler Penn — Google review
Loved this place! It is nicely maintained and there is plants to see and experience. The 3-D Humpback Whale movie was exceptional! Strolling through the indoor aquariums, one can forget about time and space. I could have watched the fish swimming indefinitely. My favorite attraction was the sea turtles viewing area. Splendid creatures! Lastly, the gift shop is amazing! Probably one of the best shops on Maui.
Steve Smith — Google review
An experience for sure! This wasn't my first time to the center but it was my children's first time. Parking costs now and you will indeed get a fine if you don't pay! Buy your tickets online and save yourself a couple bucks! The whale sphere was an amazing experience! Nothing like seeing a whale in 3D. The other exhibits were entertaining. I was sad my kiddos didn't get to go around and trace the rocks for a prize but it was super windy. Disliked how pricey it has gotten but the kids had fun. Definitely recommend.
Chloe Martins — Google review
Very informative regarding the history of the islands and the challenges that have and do face the wildlife of the Hawaiian Islands. The 3D whale experience was wonderful. It’s in a cute little area with some delicious restaurants and quaint shops.

Celebrated my best friends daughters birthday party there! Fun activities for the kids. The employees are fun, friendly, patient and really good with the kids. But there needs to be more people on staff. We had to wait a long time to change activites, get serviced at the concession. The 2 employees working did their best and were patient with everyone. But kids waiting around in the sun during a birthday party .... is no fun. Still recommend this place!!🎉🎉
Rhema Flowers — Google review
Really fun little park. The employees are always friendly. The mini golf has little spinning wheels at every other hole with mini games (like use your foot instead of the putter this hole). You WILL get soaked on the bumper boats, and if you ask, the staff can tell you how to do flips on the trampoline. It is also right next to the aquarium, so you can combine the events if you like.
James Byrer — Google review
Cute little mini golf course. Had fun. Nice shaved ice stand and food truck outside that you can take your food from onto the course. Had a great little date with my boyfriend. Adorable baby chickens running around too lol
Mizz Mia — Google review
Cool spot, don’t be scared of the price, it’s $20 for 36 holes. The course is pretty cool. Definitely some unfair rolls but hey part of the game! Removable flag sticks was a unique touch. Worth checking out if in the area.
Erik Bacher — Google review
Pretty cool place. Nice and open. We did every event there. It was all pretty cool but the staff hate life. It's a bunch of teens who are obviously annoyed with the families. My husband and I couldn't help but laugh at how slow they all walked and little they cared. A kid fell out of the bumper boats and they did nothing. They truly don't care. So play at your own risk. Also bring drinks and a cooler for in the car.
Danielle Roberts — Google review
Great family choice to spend some family activities. This is a place that you can miss. Mini golf, rock climbing, and bumper boat fun. Staff is amazing and friendly.
Gwendolyn L Agcalon — Google review
We were pleasantly surprised how clean, friendly, and wonderful this stop was! Staff was excellent and the bumper boats were a trip highlight for our kids. Great for a day when snorkeling/ocean conditions aren’t great.
Liz Ditty — Google review
One of the best and most entertaining mini golf courses I've been to. There are actually 2 18 hole courses which were really fun and take you through a cave that has a waterfall on the outside. I appreciated the layout overall - the bridges and rivers and the rope fences - in general attention to detail. The courses were also well kept and in great condition for play. My husband and I went on a very windy day but it didn't affect the experience much so that was great. The place also has little bumper water boats and a trampoline but we didn't try those.
Maria Stoica — Google review
Honestly this is my go to mini golf experience and date spot. There's 36 holes plus a mountain climbing post, and jump thing in a harness, and boats. Good price for 36 holes, pretty challenging on a few and it's not too busy so I never really felt like I had to wait too long or people waiting on me. Locals and tourists come. Also excellent shave ice out back in the lot.

Need to break up the long drive with kids? Located right before the drive to the West side. In Maalaea. My kids and I have loved this place for years. we will stop and I’ll let the kids jump on the trampoline. $11 for a jump ticket. The most well spent $11 dollars. Totally prefer this over a quick shaved iced treat with more sugar rushes and bathroom breaks…. This is a great reward for long drives and good behavior. Highly recommend the other activities like the rock wall, put put golf, bumper boats as well.
Charlotte Chandler — Google review
Local born & raised here did a birthday pack for my 10 year old pricing is ok for what you get in the package They should offer different rates for locals I think especially for extra tickets Because $95 for 12 extra tickets is pricey Charge the mainlanders that price . Some of the workers were nice Others not so much.

Fun little sports park! Perfect for a relaxing day on vacation, especially with children. Prices for mini golf were extremely reasonable ($20/adult) and prices include unlimited plays in their two mini golf courses. Would highly recommend!
KarS — Google review
Stayed in Kihei for most of our Maui visit. This town was about a 20 minute drive from where my SO and I stayed. Super cool locaction right off the harbor. Def make some time to enjoy the views off the harbor and take a little stroll in the plaza area. The plaza offers lots of chances to get some souvernirs and photos. Definitely an area worth spending a few hours in. The aquarium is also located across the street, within walking distance. The golf park itself was a great way to spend some time enjoying the beautiful weather Maui has to offer! There are spinners at every stop with trivia and trials that makes the course interactive and challenging! But in a fun way. Beautiful flowers all around. Overall, fun spot and would recommend

Trilogy Excursions offers a romantic and luxurious dining experience on their Captains Sunset Dinner Sail, departing from Maalaea Harbor. The sailing catamaran provides an intimate setting for guests to enjoy delicious cocktails and a three-course dinner featuring options like Beef Crostinis, Smoked Salmon Wedge, Caesar Salad, Rosemary & Garlic Crusted Steak, Lemon Butter Caper Mahi Mahi, and more.
I cannot recommend this tour company enough. The entire experience was perfection. The guys on the tour were all super nice and helpful. Seamus and Chad were the two stand outs, very attentive. We were able to snorkel at Molokini Crater even though the waves were pretty big the Captain was able to get us in there. We heard whale sounds while snorkeling which was the highlight of the trip for me. We then went to Turtle Town closer to shore and saw several green sea turtles and tons of fish around the coral reef. Lunch and drinks were excellent. We are a party of non drinkers so Chad kindly made us non alcoholic cocktails which were awesome. Thank you guys for making our first snorkeling trip so fantastic!! I wish there was a way to tip with credit card as neither of us brought cash. Please let us know if there is a way to add gratuity after the fact because they all deserve it!

Wow wow wow!!! We did the sunrise tour and it’s AMAZING!! I love it. It’s soo worth it. The crew are super lovely and super nice and friendly. They called 15 minutes before departure, just to make sure if we’re gonna make it on time. I loved how they cared about their customers and made sure everyone who booked was coming and not to miss anyone. Highly recommend this company.

Our friends took the charter to Lanai a few years ago and mentioned that it was their favorite part of their trip to Maui. It lived up to everything they said it was. Captain Turtle, Zach, Becka, Chancy and Ash were all amazing. Each was well versed on the islands, the history and was prepared with tons of facts. They were also very attentive and ran a safe, clean and most of all fun trip. You will get to snorkel in an area of Lanai that is not only fabulous but also is only allowed entry by Trilogy. Afterwards you will be treated to an amazing bbq chicken recipe before sailing back to Maui with your beverages of choice. We thought is was expensive when we bought/reserved it but it ended up being worth every penny. Don’t skip this trip.

Fantastic experience with Trilogy Whale Watching out of Maui. The catamaran was extremely stable in spite of heavy winds and waves. Crew great fun and informative. Super whale spotting throughout the two hours. Also served drinks and food as part of package. We have done many whale watching trips in Hawaii and elsewhere, and this was the best all round by far.

The. Best. Time. Ever!!! We did the sunset cruise with two small toddlers and let me tell you, it was so much fun! The drinks were so yummy and we were surprised that the food was good as well. This cruise was a highlight of our vacation. We originally didn’t have this excursion planned but we wanted to give back to the Maui community the best way we could and boy, are we glad we did. Our crew was from the Lahaina harbor and they were so grateful to have all of us on board.
Tatyana Welch — Google review
We did all those charters on the island. Trilogy twice. Snorkeling, dinner, etc. Trilogy is probably the best. The boat is nice, the crew is really good and seems to take pleasure to do their job. The food was better than other places. I would not say excellent but that’s absolutely normal because there is no kitchen on the boat. They outsource but it was the best food we had on this kind of private boat experience. A magic experience for couples, family, friends. They give choices between beef and fish. I think beef was the best. Their cocktails was pretty good too. They have blankets, but you should think about taking a sweater if you go to dinner. Don’t forget your Dramamine if you are sensitive on the water. The trilogy is pretty good on the water so you will have a less bumpy ride than on others. You can park easily. They are on the left side, near the 93. (This is the most visible sign on the port- they are at the 99 if I remember well) You can also put your own music.
Ryo Shigemitsu — Google review
This excursion was one of the best parts to our trip! The catamaran is big, had a great crew and easily got us to two dive locations. We saw hundreds of fish in the first and a moray eel! In the second we dived with turtles!

I’ve gone on 3 different excursions with Trilogy this summer and they all have been incredible! I did a sunset dinner cruise, the Kaanapali snorkel, and the West side snorkel. Every single one was completely first class. All of the different cruise staff I met were incredible, very friendly, accommodating, and professional. The lunches and drinks were delicious, I highly recommend this company and any of their excursions! You will have a first class experience.

Haycraft Park is a small and quiet county beach park located between Maalaea Beach and Sugar Beach. It offers a peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for picnics, leisurely walks, and sunset viewing. The park features shade trees, a beautiful beach with ample sand, water, and showers. Visitors can also enjoy whale watching and may even spot Honu (turtles) from the beach.
This is a very small and quiet park. Out of the way, almost as though only a few people know about it. There is only an outhouse no restrooms but there's also water and a shower. There's also a grassy area to put down a blanket. We noticed some regulars here with fishing poles. I imagine it would be a lovely place to view the sunset. Ample sand.

A very idyllic spot on Maui. This park has beautiful shade trees and a beautiful beach. Was just there last weekend and saw incredible whales. Also can see Honu from this spot as well. You can start on this beach and walk all the way to Sugar Beach in Kihei if you want an adventure. Check out Haycraft Beach Park. You'll be happy you did.

Haycraft Park is a great beach to relax and unwind. The crowd is less, making it a peaceful and serene place to enjoy the beauty of Maui. We stumbled upon this beach unknowingly and were pleasantly surprised by its charm. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet spot to soak up the sun and enjoy the ocean.

Great little hidden gem at the end of the street from the air bnb where we were staying. Locals were camping there but very friendly. I got to play with their baby, Mila, and it was especially endearing when they introduced me as 'Auntie'. Beautiful, clear beach, very quiet. The only thing that was a little icky were the sea cucumbers!

Nice beach to relax on. Careful of the thorns in the sand from the local bushes. I would wear sandals or water shoes. Doesn't get super crowded. There are a lot of turtles you can watch from the beach as well.

Nice out of the way beach, little rocky but very chill and lots of space. The beach goes on forever so it's impossible not to find a great spot!
Gary — Google review
Not a five star beach due to the dirty feel of the park, limited parking and a disgusting porta potty. BUT.....4 star because you can walk for miles on the beach, see turtles in the wave, find sea glass and small shells and observe the Kealia Pond from the ocean side. Great photo opportunities and diverse sand. Take plenty of water or go early in the morning to walk as it can get very hot. Other than the porta potty at the park, there are no bathrooms for miles.

We stumbled upon a gallery named Makawao Fine Art while wandering the streets on vacation. The owner, David, treated us like old friends and showed us impressive artwork without any pressure to buy. Although we didn't expect to cross paths again, we couldn't stop thinking about one particular piece. Determined to see it again, we returned near closing time and David kindly assisted us throughout the purchasing process. He even covered the shipping and made our day by giving my wife an early Christmas present.
We were just wandering the street and found ourselves in "just another art gallery on vacation". David understood this but treated us like old and welcome friends, showed us some great pieces and offered a mild sales pitch with NO pressure. When we left there was little expectation we would ever see each other again. Over the next couple days I kept thinking about one piece in particular and found a way to get back there again. We walked in at about closing time and he stayed and helped us through the process, even picked up the shipping and made the wife's day with my early Christmas present. Every buying experience should be like this.
