Road Station Tendo onsen is a convenient stop on a toll road, offering a footbath, musical fountains and souvenir shop. The Tento la France Factory sells unique and delicious ice cream flavors such as cherry, edamame, pear, rice, almond and chocolate. English service is available. Nearby is a large store featuring local products. The rest stop also includes a park with playground area and water play area in the summer for all to enjoy and cool off from the heat.
They have a pretty nice and hot onsen for your feets here! The food is average considering the price though its good. A bakery can also be found here and the typical souvenir shops.

Jakushoji Temple

Mentioned on
Buddhist temple
The view from the top was beautiful. Definitely would recommend going in the autumn when the leaves change the colour.
Haruki Saka — Google review
This temple is up a winding mountain road and is known as a temple for praying for 'making connections', especially relationships. I have to say it was nice but didn't really blow me away. There is a great view of the fields below, though, and you can walk through the forest above the temple to see the wild plants and mushrooms.

The temple that smokes in the rain is also quite elegant. The main hall was not allowed to take pictures, but you can feel its imposing presence. The road is winding, so be careful if you are not used to driving. (Translated by Google) Its common name is ``Wakamatsu Kannon,'' and its official name is ``Wakamatsu Temple.'' It is the first temple of the Mogami Thirty-Three Kannon Sacred Grounds, and according to the taxi driver, it used to be crowded with pilgrims, but now there are only a few people here, even on weekends. Although the Kannon-do Hall, which is designated as a national important cultural property, is truly impressive, it is not unique, and its lack of other attractions, coupled with poor access by public transportation, makes it difficult to recommend, even if it is not bad. This is an honest evaluation. Also, the hanging Buddha at Wakamatsu Kannon, which is another nationally important cultural property, is located to the right of the inner shrine of Kannon-do, and can be seen by looking through the latticework. Good mall experience - very large with many outlets and overall better than the one Yamagata. Food court excellent. Good music instrument shop. There is also one of those quick haircut salons. Check the web for full list of shops.

Cozy and small AEON. If you are looking for various items to buy, other AEON is recommended. But since there is a free bus from Yamagata Station, it’s quite convenience.
Albert Louis — Google review
Big mall with an arcade, food court, many restaurants, book store and a supermarket, and near to tendominami station. Very useful in a city where most restaurants outside close at 1800
Jy Tan — Google review
A good mall in Yamagata, and quite new. It gets very busy at weekends, and it's not excellently laid out for crowd control. The Aeon style supermarket boasts a "free from" section, seldom found in Japan. Includes gluten free items. With some international brands, it's worth visiting this place if you're foreign and live local.

(Translated by Google) The museum was closed the other day due to exhibit changes, so I went back today. I came here two weeks ago, and the "Irie Asuka Exhibition" was so good that I ordered another one😆 When I heard that the exhibits were being replaced, I decided I had to check it out, so I went back and found out that only one of Mr. Irie's works had been replaced. Still, you can watch it over and over again, including the last one you saw. Please take this opportunity to visit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~↑10/9 added This museum holds exhibitions of contemporary art and materials for a limited time, as well as ukiyo-e prints by artists such as Hiroshige. The ``Irie Asuka Exhibition'' was currently being held, so I decided to go right away because I couldn't pass up the chance to see the hand-drawn and large-scale works up close. The ``Irie Asuka Exhibition'' was simply wonderful. I was amazed at how much talent there is, and I was able to stand in front of the work until my feet hurt, and I lost track of time and admired it for a long time. Even if you don't usually have much interest in art appreciation, this is an artist you should definitely check out at least once ✨ The building itself was designed by Kengo Kuma, and we recommend taking a stroll around the building and taking in the backyard space and bamboo forest. I visit when there are exhibits that interest me, and I also have images from last year's fall foliage season, so I'll post them here. Don't miss it during the autumn foliage season, which is coming soon! There is also a cafe attached, so you can have some coffee time after your stroll.
