Dar Es Salaam Region

Dar es Salaam, a major city and commercial port on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast, grew from a fishing village. The open-air Village Museum has re-created the traditional homes of local and other Tanzanian tribes and hosts tribal dancing. It’s part of the National Museum, which offers Tanzanian history exhibits, including the fossils of human ancestors found by anthropologist Louis Leakey.

Good outdoor place to enjoy with family and friends. A 20 mins boat ride from Mbezi beach and enjoy the beautiful beach.

After you pay for the boat ,you pay for the spot ,you pay for the government tax !!!(make sure they are not arranged well tried to scam me )you arrive in this paradise.water is clean but of course rubbish around the sand while the local that are supposed to keep it clean as they work there ,sell food ,(make sure they try to overcharge ,ask the menu ,but always they overprice you lol 😂..you see all the rubbish collected in different spots !!so maybe they should pick it up before the wind 💨 blows it into the ocean ?:-) nooo they laugh and look always for money 💰…nice beach i do suggest if you are around maybe the beast and the clean all around the area ..go once no more too expensive.

Nice and clean. Make sure you bring enough drinking water. Start your boat trip from Waves, not from the hotel.

Mbudya Island (or simply Mbudya) is an uninhabited island in Tanzania, north of the country's largest city, Dar es Salaam and is one of the four islands of the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve (DMRS). The island lies close to the beach resort and fishing community of Kunduchi and is reachable by means of a 20-minute motorboat ride crossing from the mainland. It is therefore a popular daytrip for both tourists and Tanzanian residents alike, serving as a location for a variety of leisure activities, including snorkelling, sunbathing and hiking.

A place u cannot afford to miss if in Dar e salaam. About 30 minutes drive from the city. Then take a motor boat to the island. Enough places to sit in shade. Water is very clear. Ideal for spending 4/5 hours
Sunil Varma — Google review
It's really amazing there!!! Although the price to visit there is expensive but it worths so much if you just have only few days to spend in Dar Es Salaam. For me, I spent 20000tsh for the boat and 41000tsh for marine reserves entrance fee(I'm not sure if I was chatted), and I got the wonderful feeling of living in a small island in Indian Ocean. It's definitely amazing for me a person who grew in cities since I was borned. I will highly recommend every foreigner to visit there because it will make your Tanzania's trip unforgettable!!

POSITIVITY: Great island.... Good place to hang out and have fun with family, friends. Make sure to take a speaker with you if you are with some vibing crew! But whatsoever, it's also a great place to meditate and breathe. Food and drinks are also allowed to carry with. But yet, the island offers food for cost. The island is so clean(haven't seen shells around, can't know why.... GOD'S CREATION 😇😍) The waters reflect the sky then turn blue, sometimes waters turn into light green because of the sea vegetation ,BEAUTIFUL VIEW❤️ Visiting hours are from 1200hours to 1800hours. GOVERNMENT CHARGES: 6,000 for students WITH THE ID 12,000 for non-students NEGATIVITY: I just wonder why we pay charges for the island and yet, someone has to pay AGAIN for the hut to accomodate(around 15,000)and still pay for a table and chairs(15,000 again) .... SMH! 😑 The washrooms are not that clean, neither have enough water to accommodate visitors around.
Shollah Chokala — Google review
Dar's own mini zanzibar paradise. Beautiful island just off the city coast, with several hotels offering boat rides to the island (reasonably priced), the ride is around 30 minutes with the small boats, the main beach is clean, the water is clear. It can get a bit crowded on weekends. There is another beach on the other side of the island, acvessible by walking through a forest path, its usually quiet with few or no people, but it is sometimes littered with plastic from the city and nearby zanzibar, sad that pollution all the way from zanzibar reaches these beautiful paradises. You can pay for the beach bandas(huts), or beach mats, but recently they have been fewer available. All in all, wonderful relaxation.

Bongoyo Island

Mentioned on
Island
Nature & Parks
Bongoyo Island is a marine reserve surrounded by turquoise waters and boasts two sandy beaches, forests, and boat access. It's a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life to take a peaceful walk across the island. While there is seafood and drinks available, it's important to note that all workers on the island are volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve this uninhabited gem. They rely on food, drink business as well as rent of tents, chairs and beds for financial support.
If you are Dar es Salaam you look for nice beach, to getaway from chaos city of Dar es Salaam, Bongoyo is place to be, it is only 20 minutes away from Slipway Msasani, Boat ticket is $10 and Marine Park fees is $10 for non-Tanzania, but for Tanzanian is only $ 10 for both Boat ticket and Marine Park fees this apply for adult. But the age of 5-14 years old it free. The main food in Bongoyo is Sea Food. And you can get all drinks you want there.
Michael S. Mbwambo — Google review
It's a small island. The beach is good to relax. However, they charge you for the beach beds that are mostly broken and the nature walk didn't feel safe. There was a restaurant that wasn't operational. I would recommend it you want to visit, please bring your own food and drinks, a book, speaker or games to play on the beach. It's a 30/45 minutes ride on a motor boat from slipway Daresalam.
Banice Ndirangu — Google review
Cool place get away though everything at this is place charged sitting on a chair, table even the hut

If you are looking to escape the hectic city and crowded spaces then this is the place for you. The island is nice to take a walk across but make sure you have someone with you. There is ok sea food and drinks. The water is beautiful. It is important to know that everyone who works on the island is a volunteer that works to preserve this uninhabited island. They do so without a salary and rely on the food and drink business as well as rent of tents, chairs and beds. Kudos to them for doing such great conservation work.

Ibrahim Gaber — Google review
A genuine beauty of the nature as it is. Lush greenery, clear turquoise water, white sand. Quiet and peaceful island for a calm day retreat. Not much of activities apart from swimming, sun tanning and walking around, but if that is what you are looking for, go for it. There are some sunbeds and shades, one or two restaurants as well as washrooms. Everything is simple, yet enjoyable.

This island is truly a great place to escape from the city! There is a boat from Slipway (30k return / 27k government fee) running 09:30am (every 1h) and takes about 30min (depending on sea conditions). There is a restaurant on the island, serving tasty food (payable in cash or by card). This was a great trip – highly recommended! (Only goes with 4+ people)
Tom Eggen — Google review
Great location to visit and relax. Very few people, very quiet and the staff are friendly. Limited options for food and drinks though local and imported beers are available. You’ll have to rent the amenities though, about 50,000 TZS in total for food, drinks and basic rentals. Great for a day visit.

The Hotel Slipway, situated on the Indian Ocean, offers bright and elegant rooms in a bayside setting. Guests can enjoy dining and drinking at various bars and restaurants within the spacious hotel grounds. The outdoor pool and gym facilities are well-maintained for guests' enjoyment. The hotel provides an excellent location with convenient access to shops and eateries, enabling guests to remain within the hotel oasis throughout their stay.
What a view! The hotel is located right on the Indian Ocean. The breakfast was excellent. The rooms were nice and very clean. The pool was clean and the grounds were well kept. I also like how there are shops and restaurants in the hotel so the location is excellent and there is no need to leave this incredible oasis in Dar Es Salaam!

A very nice and cosy place. Spacious rooms with all amenities. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Great and humble staff. Best African meals. Located between the beach and main road. Different standalone restaurants are available for a variety of cuisines. Well equipped kids playing ground.

On the slipway to joy and happiness! We have enjoyed our stay a lot! Wonderful hotel with wonderful staff. People were extremely friendly, kind and helpful. Food was delicious. Pool is nice and spacious. Hotel is really big but feels cosy. We will happily come back. Special thanks to the genera manager Alberto, who made us feel very very welcomed. We certainly appreciate it.

I always have a fantastic experience at this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Whether you're interested in watching the sunset or exploring the local bazaar, this hotel offers a perfect combination of relaxation and cultural immersion. The bazaar is a wonderful place to wander around and soak up the local culture. The breathtaking view of the sunset is absolutely mesmerizing, and I always find myself eagerly anticipating to watch the sunset each evening from the comfort of the hotel’s benches.

The rooms are quite impressive and although service is good, the dinning room is open and wild birds keep coming in for the guests food. Some people like the hotel for that but it annoyed me. The location is fantastic

Waterfront restaurant at the slipway is Great place eat out with an ocean view. However crows are a problem as the restaurant is open air. The moment someone leaves the table its surround by several crows who want to eat out the leftover. This is not only unhygienic but scary for other guests who are still having their meals.
Harsh Aggarwal — Google review
Beautiful hotel with beautiful sea views! Staff are so friendly. Buffet breakfast has a large selection to choose from and the food served at the restaurant is divine. Rooms are clean and well sized. Lovely pool area. Walking distance from restaurants, pharmacy, local vendors and supermarket. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Slipway!
Claudia De Sousa — Google review
Comfortable hotel, great area surrounding to be able to get dinner, walk around and just hang out. Proximity to a small grocery store, pharmacy and multiple restaurants is always a selling point for me to stay here. Rooms are comfortable, good air con, and bathrooms are reasonable size. I would call this a "florida" style hotel, as it appears all rooms have a balcony overlooking something, mine had a great view of the bay. Morning breakfast had a good selection, eggs to order and excellent coffee. Beds were comfortable, tea kettles and safe were all present. Would definitely stay again. And look up Freddie if he is still around, he's a great resource and first friendly face you'll see as he helps with your bags.

We had a wonderful stay at Slipway in March 2023. The hotel was cozy and inviting, and the surroundings were absolutely stunning. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, and offered breathtaking views of the area. We loved the selection of dining options available in the vicinity, which provided a great opportunity to explore the local cuisine. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure that our stay was enjoyable from start to finish. Overall, we highly recommend Slipway and give it two thumbs up for being a great place to stay. It was a truly memorable experience!

Location is fantastic, close to lots of shops and a number of restaurants. The rooms are pretty old, but not bad all things considered. The hotel service was good, however service was quite poor when we ate at their affiliated restaurant. There was a conference there, which we found out only after waiting an hour for our food.

I came to Dar from the northern part of the country. Here there is electricity and running water all the time, I loved that. Slipway is a wonderful place to stay, shop, eat and or get a drink. There is a beauty shoreline right outside the hotel. It is full of shops, places to eat and beautiful views. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I will stay there again if I am in that area. Very reasonable prices.
Heather Ochab — Google review
It was OK for one night. I used it for a one-night stopover and in hindsight should have chosen a downtown location due to the distance from the airport. The rooms are clean but the furniture, carpeting and decor are dated (I stayed in the newer building), the bed linen had a nauseating smell of some cheap fabric softener or similar. There is not much to do around, walking is limited, the views were ok but perhaps this was due to the rainy and cloudy weather. Souvenir shops in the complex had no prices displayed so that turned me off shopping there. Didn't have the time to take breakfast.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the exquisite Hotel Slipway in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and I must say that it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish. Dining (★★★★★): Hotel Slipway boasts an array of dining options, each offering a unique culinary experience. I dined at Slipway Restaurant, where I indulged in a diverse range of dishes, from fresh seafood to delectable international cuisine. The quality of food was exceptional, and the service was impeccable. The oceanfront setting created a romantic ambiance for a special evening. Amenities (★★★★★): This hotel offers an impressive range of amenities. The pool area is an oasis of relaxation, complete with comfortable loungers and attentive staff serving refreshing drinks. The spa and wellness center provided a tranquil escape, and the fitness center was well-equipped for those who wish to stay active during their stay. The hotel also has a shopping center and an art gallery, making it a one-stop destination for leisure and entertainment. Location (★★★★★): Hotel Slipway's location is one of its biggest assets. Situated right on the waterfront, it offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean and easy access to the Slipway shopping complex, which houses various boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. The hotel also provides a complimentary shuttle service to popular nearby attractions, making it convenient for exploring the city. Service (★★★★★): The staff at Hotel Slipway are undoubtedly one of its greatest strengths. They were consistently attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure my stay was exceptional. It's the perfect place for a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a business trip. I left Hotel Slipway with a sense of gratitude for the incredible experience and a desire to return. I highly recommend this hidden gem to anyone visiting Dar es Salaam, as it truly offers a slice of paradise on the Tanzanian coast.

Specialty Museums
The National Museum and House of Culture, which was founded in 1934, showcases displays highlighting the rich history and culture of Tanzania and its people. The museum is situated near the waterfront, offering visitors a scenic walk alongside historic ocean-front churches. Guests can also stay at the Tanzanite Executive Suites, a cool and comfortable oasis in the midst of the city's heat.
It's very good memorial place especially for the powerful historical background of Tanzania. Also the place possesses halls which can be used to hold trainings and exhibition.

Well... some nice articles and photos but sad to say. Not in a good condition.... not really worth to visit at this stage...needs improvement. Good is, it is entrance free!! But better go to a market to discover Tanzanian life!
Ralf Schaab — Google review
This is the worst museum I've ever been to. More than 2/3rds of it is empty. I don't know if they are renovating it but they should either close it or charge nothing. It costs $6 and they say they will only accept card payments. The few rooms that you can browse have small digital prints of President Nyerere meeting with African politicians in the 1960s with no real explanations about the significance and letters he wrote to President John F. Kennedy that are full of grammatical and wording issues. This is supposed to be the museum of culture and there is only one small room of bad, contemporary paintings. Local art shops have better works. There is a small hall about early human evolution and fossils but there are almost no bones or fossils shown. Don't bother going here. Tanzania is so rich in history and culture. They could have had an exhibit of the tribal clothing traditions throughout the country or the dark history of colonialism and independence but there is really no history or culture worth seeing here. I saw everything in less than an hour and wanted my money back at the end.
Nick Berkawitz — Google review
Well worth a visit when in Dar. Very nice museum, well laid out with sections on human evolution and the history of Tanzania. Plus lovely galleries. A good way to spend a few hours, especially during the heat of the day.
Terry Buss — Google review
The museum's unique integration with nature sets it apart. Admission is reasonably priced at 5 dollars. Additionally, visitors can browse through a souvenir shop conveniently located at the entrance. Overall, it's an okay experience for those looking to explore Dar Es Salaam.
Tintu Varghese — Google review
I must admit it was a bit embarrassing to visit the museum with a friend who was visiting ( local charges are 2500 foreigners 12,500, they take mobile money when we visited their network was down so they charged us an extra 1000!) The only note worthy exhibit was the cradle of man however most places lakes proper explanations the staff were quite unfriendly and plain rude it felt as though they were there against their wishes. There were lots of cobwebs and dust around most display cabinets. In some places it was really hot even the fans were switched off. In other exhibits there was a repetition of pictures. The museum is filled with newspaper clippings and pictures which can easily be viewed for free on Google. There is alot of maintainance work going on and hopefully that will bring some positive changes. It's a shame that we are a country filled with history and culture and yet our museum is in the state that it is
Sabrina Anver Karim — Google review
The museum is kind of small, and only covers the history of the country. The most important exhibition is the one focusing on paleontology and early archeology in the Olduvai Gorge. The colonial exhibition as well as the selection of contemporary Tanzanian art are educative, but largely superfluous. Still, good value for money since the entrance fee is 12.000 TSh.
Matej Sedlár — Google review
A fascinating museum to spend an hour or two if looking to escape the heat or the rain. I found the staff to be extremely friendly and personable, which was pleasant. The exhibits are interesting and the information cards are very descriptive and well written in English. During our visit, I noted another guest who was visiting with a guide, however, I found that the written information provided was more than sufficient, allowing you to go as fast or as slow as you want. The main exhibit was nice, and I enjoyed the contemporary art exhibit as well, though the rest appeared to be crudely displayed with old discoloured photos and more of an afterthought to fill the space.
Dan Omoigui — Google review
Unfortunately this museum experience was not worth the 12,000 tsh fee. Although the front staff were very pleasant. The items in the museum were minimal and not impressive. Gave me a vibe similar to the Boma Museum in Arusha...Not a must-see attraction

The National Museum of Tanzania located within Dar Es Salam where you can learn about TZ history and culture. If you love old cars, there is a selection of former presidents cars there. No need to hire a guide. You can bi card for the visit fees, they a have an very interesting souvenir shop.
Bousso Kane — Google review
Typical low income museum. Lots of history on history Indian influence... A lot of restoration of the place can help and they should find some funds to restore the place. Sad thing is the Late Julius Nyereresncar collection was not in good restored pieces. The cars do need some restoration and can make it a good highlight for show pieces. The gift shop is kind of basic still advertising post cards and selling of stamps. Might just be a good traditional thing. Lord of good local story telling of people's culture could be introduced and get people to feel the vibe of Tanzania history which is rich. All in all atleast easily accessible. Lots of open space... They should consider to hire out open to events. Has lots of potential. Coming back to history .. i think the German, English governments can help a lot in bringing more artefacts and better quality of history around world wars 1 and maybe 2. A decent library but was too hot. Ac can help. Not at all busy when i went, walk in walk out kinf of thing. Modernization is highly overdue.

Museum describing the history of what today is Tanzania. From prehistoric times up to modern days, a lot of information is provided and many historical items are on displace. There is also a memorial dedicated to those wounded and killed in the 1998 Kenya/Tanzania embassy bombings.
Armin Heer — Google review
I was not sure what to expect but surprisingly, I had a wonderful time. It is a lot of cut outs but if you take one of the guides they offer (for a small extra fee of course), you will have a good time. I did not use the guide as I always feel rushed when I use them but I still had a good time getting glimpses of the history! There was an interior home sapien exhibit going on that I thought was interesting and could be fun for kids. The people were very welcoming and the only time I got a little frustrated was when the guard kept asking me for a ticket but I had paid cash and did not have one. I was just frustrated because I wanted to enjoy the exhibit without interruptions. He did invite me to join him for lunch which I respectfully declined as I was not quite hungry yet. All in all a very good local activity to enjoy and relax. Hopefully they get more art to showcase as some areas are still in renovation and some rooms were pretty empty. Buying tickets was easy. If paying in USD it costs about $6 and in Tanzanian shillings about TSHS 13000

One must visit National Museum and House of Culture to understand history, culture, heritage and way of life of Tanzanian people.
Kuldeep Kothari — Google review
This is a decent small museum with a cheap entry price. It appears to be in a large series of buildings, most of which are not being used, so there is a lot of potential for the future. For right now, it is pretty limited. The best parts are about archeology and the evolution of early humans. There is a nice section on Julius Nyerere and some other heroic founders of the nation. But there could be a lot more! It would be great to see stuff on the amazing mix of tribes and ethnicities that make up Tanzania. Information on pre-colonial times (there's basically nothing on that). There is a small amount on the resistance to the German colonizers, but very little about the modern independence movement. There is a section of contemporary art and a section about African rock art. Separately, there is a sad and moving memorial to the 1998 American embassy bombing. And a collection of cool old cars that were driven by Nyerere and other dignitaries! Definitely worth going, in my opinion.

Flea & Street Markets
Mzizima Fish Market, located in Ferry, is a large market offering a wide variety of fresh seafood including fish, prawns, crabs and octopus. However, the process of purchasing requires hard bargaining and caution against pickpockets. It is advisable to visit early in the day or evening for the freshest catch. The market can be overwhelming due to the numerous vendors showcasing their products. Customers should avoid impulse buying and negotiate for a fair price.
Definitely worth coming during the day to see all the boats and fishermen cleaning their nets. You can buy all sorts of seafood here and eat various things. If you go at night, just outside the bus terminal there are loads of street vendors. Tasty and extremely cheap (200tsh a piece of octopus/squid or a potato) Much better than the more famous and hyped Zanzibar night market

Very nice fish market but be aware of the "tourist prices". Just bargain :)

Lots and lots of fish. Hard bargaining, sometimes cheating. You have to park your car at the outside parking area. The market is generally wet and messy. Don't get excited buying anything you see before you bargain. Everyone will come and show you what they have, it can get overwhelming sometimes. Be sure you bargain to a price you think is right. You can also have your fish cleaned and cut as you like at cheap rates. Beware of pickpockets. Wear easy footwear.

Traditional fish market, where a big diversity of fishes are chopped and cut on spot. Of course, no hygiene measures are taken, but I guess the locals' immune system is already used to the conditions. As for tourists, I would not recommend fish consumption from the market :)

Restaurant
I visited Addis in Dar, an Ethiopian restaurant located in Tanzania. It is known as the longest-standing and most renowned Ethiopian restaurant in the country. The restaurant offers a traditional and soothing atmosphere, immersing guests in Ethiopian culture. The place has a cozy ambiance with elements of a mini museum. As my first experience trying Ethiopian food, I must admit that it did not particularly appeal to my taste buds, although others seemed to thoroughly enjoy it.
Just thinking about the food at Addis in Dar makes my mouth water and heart feel happy. I love this place like crazy. The food is perfect every time we go. The staff are very professional and attentive. The ambiance is lovely. We had take away for the first time tonight and it was still great! I was very happy to see that bundle of injera with our family sized meal!

One of the finest restaurants in Dar es Salaam. The whole experience of sharing food in a traditional Ethiopian platter, the nice first floor veranda, the Tanzanian night sky, the furniture and the music add to a unique experience. All the dishes we tried were well cooked and tasty but the lamb was delicious! The service was very polite and genuinely friendly and the prices were reasonable for tourists.

I wanted to eat Tanzanian food for dinner, but the place that I wanted to go for authentic Tanzanian & East African food - doesn’t have a menu with prices and I read a lot of reviews of tourists being charged ridiculous prices after food was consumed. I’ve fallen for that scam once in Italy, Never Again! So we ended up eating the cuisine of another East African country instead. Ethiopian food at Addis in Dar. One of the few restaurants open on Tuesday night (which seems to be the weekly holiday for restaurants in Dar) Set on the open terrace of a 2 floored house, surrounded by trees, there was a lovely breeze blowing which made for a good experience. We ordered one of the combos that came with misir wot (masoor dhal), chicken doro wot and lamb alicha wot. Added a gomen (sautéed spinach) to this combo. When the food arrived, the injeera was made from rice, not teff and there was a bit of a a cabbage carrot dish too. Excellent food, light on the stomach and tasty too. They had tej and other alcoholic drinks too, but I had a fresh lime soda to combat the heat.

The name is definitely a description of the experience. It's like walking into a completely different world in Dar es Salaam. Top quality food and service with great presentation

Ethiopian delicacy restaurant. Opens late in the evening and is poorly positioned. It lacks good signage too. Poor variety of drinks but the food is manageable

Ethiopian Cuisine is an experience one must have. The minute you walk inside and take in the big mango trees around, incense sticks aroma, warmth of the staff, cute wooden and cane furniture and the Ethiopian music playing in the background you are set for a lovely time here. If you are in a group of 5 you should try the Coffee Ceremony and keep the host informed in advance for the preparation. It was my first experience trying the cuisine and I am looking forward to revisiting Addis to try out every item on the menu. Go there when you are extremely hungry only then you'll be able to complete the portion served to you! Honey Ethiopian Wine is ❤️

Wow. This place is incredible, a quiet spot tucked away from the busier streets. Traditional Ethiopian cuisine with curry style dishes served sociably onto one single sharing plate onto an Ethiopian style rice based pancake. Not only is the service and food fantastic, it makes for a really unique dining experience. The staff are lovely and very friendly.

A little slice of Ethiopia in Dar. Excellent food and service. The beyaynetu is excellent and can comfortably feed two.

Beautiful atmosphere, calm and cozy place embedded with Ethiopian culture and a mini museum-like. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. Gotta say I'm not that big of a fan, but everyone else I went with seem to really enjoy the food, so I guess it depends with your palate. The overall service was really good.

Addis In Dar is a place to be if you love Ethiopian foods. The spot is exceptionally cosy and family-friendly, the food, music and vibe are as perfect as in Ethiopia (those who have been to Ethiopia & Addis In Dar will agree), and service is of a high level which explains the pricing 😜. I wish they had Ethiopian homemade juice options.

Authentic ethiopian Restaurant ! Great Menuecard, every Meal is awesome! My biggest recommending of authentic cooking ( incl. the coffee celebration). Also the vegetarian dishes were Great. So you don't need to go to Ethiopia for a great Taste of this country!

Akemi Revolving Restaurant in Tanzania offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience with its unique revolving concept and modern decor. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the city and ocean while indulging in a variety of delicious dishes from the menu. While some may find the prices on the higher side, it is worth noting that the food, particularly a salad, is tasty. However, it should be mentioned that there have been instances where the service has been disappointing.
Fantastic views of the city. Nice Christmas brunch. Good service. Just a bit too hot due to high celing and December is summer here in DAR. Loved it! Must go place in DAR.

I had a pasta Alfredo… this is the best pasta I have tasted in Tanzania and the place is absolutely stunning! Shout out to the waiters and especially the chef! It is a must visit restaurant you won’t be let down. 5 star everything!

I was unlucky when I went there it was fully booked for a private event, but the staff allowed me to walk around and check the view all around and I must confess it's amazing and allows to have a great overview over the all town. And apparently the structure goes around 360 degrees, so you can stay on a table and see the around view.

Exceptional view of the city can be enjoyed here, India ocean on one side and Dar's skyline on the other. Food was slightly bland for my liking.

Service was the best part, for me. Atmosphere was nice and food was good. I went on my own for dinner during the weekal, and a waiter asked me if I wanted a photo because I was at a great spot for a good background. It was nice to not have to ask someone to take a photo. Also the manager was clearly present and attentive as well. Getting up to the restaurant was a bit confusing. The reservation process was not so easy either- the online option wasn't very clear. It was worth it though, as a tourist looking for something unique for my first time in Dar it was nice.
LaToya B. — Google review
I had planned on visiting it for a long time for the unique revolving restaurant experience. However, that's all there was about it - a gorgeous city view with average food, decor, and service. The menu had many choices, but most seafood options weren't available (on a Sunday night). The cocktails were decent but not great. We ordered pasta and chicken 65. The pesto pasta was delicious, but the Alfredo was just OK. The decor was nice and didn't distract from the outside view (which is the highlight). The restaurant revolves slowly and completes a round only in about 2 hours, which is perfect. However, we were surprised when the staff asked us to wrap up by 10.30 pm, which is extremely early by Dar standards. It's worth going once for the view and experience, but the food and drinks are overpriced for the quality offered.
Sadashiv N — Google review
The food was tasty(I ordered a salad) and the view was amazing. They have round spining/moving floor, so you will be able to eat with a city view and ocean view as well. The Restaurant is not cheap, I paid 22 000tzs for salad. But I am giving just 4 stars not because of prices. The service was dissapointing. As a client it is my decision if i want to tip the waiter or no and in this restaurant i was advised by the waiter to give him a tip, which is inappropriate in my opinnion but it was also kind of funny.

My favorite restaurant in DES so far . Easy to find , the views from the restaurant are priceless, the food is really yummy and the idea of t” the rotating/moving table “ is just epic . You should definitely visit .

I can summarise my experience at Akemi like this- Great view, Good food, Friendly staff. We went there for lunch and were really happy with the food. The revolving part is also very smooth and viewing experience adds to the overall eating experience. They don’t start Tandoor / Oven during the lunch hours. Or it wasn’t on when we went. So we couldn’t get Naan or any other Tandoor items. So make sure to ask them before hand if the Tandon is on if you are going for lunch and intend to eat Tandoor items. One can also ask for special decorations for a table for special occasions . Overall, an excellent place and a great experience. Recommend.

The views from the restaurant are GREAT! I love the revolving center floor so you get to see the city from two sides. Only thing I didn't like was the service, waiter "forgot" my order and I had to remind him TWICE.

The Waterfront Sunset Restaurant and Beach Bar, situated in a charming coastal setting, offers an appealing rustic atmosphere. With a focus on seafood and fish-based cuisine, the restaurant boasts both delectable dishes and breathtaking views. It is an ideal location to savor a beachside experience during the evening hours. Their menu features a variety of options including fish, meat, and vegetarian selections along with an impressive array of cocktails and wines.
Best NYE experience had at the Waterfront. Very well organized and festive. Large buffet selection of delicious food and desserts. The fireworks display at the bay was beautiful. Best way to end off the year in Tanzania!

Tanzania waterfront stole my heart really from the food, the DJ, the atmosphere and the people. The food was amazing we had the sea food platter ( PS try it) and we also danced until they closed.
Jacobine Amutenya — Google review
We came for lunch. The seating area is very nice by the sea, but watch out for the nosy crows! The service was a bit slower than expected. We ordered: - Grilled king fish: was awesome! - Chicken shish kebeb: it was good, but the sauce that comes with it is very spicy, so you may eat it without the sauce if you can't handle spicy. - Fish and chips: it was coated with coconut flakes, so the coconut flavor was apparent. So, we didn't like it much because of that. However, we tried to peel the crispy coating and eat the fish inside and it was okay, especially if you dip it in the tartar sauce that comes with it and/or drizzle it with lemon. The french fries were good. - Vanilla milkshake: it tasted good and rich with vanilla. The childrent loved them. The sunset is definitely sublime here whether you observe it while at the restaurant or in the area around it.

This restaurant, situated near Coco Beach, offers an exceptional dining experience highlighted by its exquisite food, delightful drinks, and impeccable service. What truly sets this place apart is its captivating ambiance, where guests can immerse themselves in the endless vista of water and sky, creating a serene and picturesque backdrop. During our visit, we indulged in a seafood platter that was simply divine. Whether you're savoring the delicious cuisine or simply soaking in the breathtaking surroundings, this establishment promises a memorable and enjoyable experience

Hotel waterfront is ideally located just 7km from the Dar es Salaam city centre on the posh Msasani peninsula, right on the Indian Ocean overlooking Msasani Bay. It offers the best value for money in this upmarket neighborhood. The name says it all. Here you enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the Indian Ocean. The menu is heavily centered around fresh fish & seafood complemented by a wide selection of pizzas from the wood-fired oven. This highly frequented restaurant is very popular with locals and tourists, kids & grown-ups alike. Even if it’s only for a cool drink in its magnificent ambiance. You can reserve the table by connecting with Hotel management. There are various liquor brands and patterns available, so we can enjoy the evening with family and friends. This place is also nice for photoshoots and snaps. In short, it is worth spending money here and collecting the memories.

Best place in the town! Enjoyed the amazing sunset and the high quality delicious food. It is preferable to pre-reserve if you wanna set on table by the sea side.
Ahmed Bahaa El-Dean — Google review
The environment and staff is nice and friendly but the food not at all. The pizza was more like bread with tomato sauce so I had to order something else. The "fresh juice" was not fresh and too much sugar. For that quality of kitchen the menu is overpriced.
Necati Mente?e — Google review
It is located inside The Slipway. The atmosphere is better than their service. It's a lounge at the edge or the shore of the beachfront. It serves cocktails, mocktails, teas, coffees, seafoods, foods etc. I would say their prices match their location even though it's considered pricey. It's cool hangout or chill place.
Mazi Laurinz — Google review
The view here is amazing. I watched the sunset at this place and then went ahead to watch football over their streaming set up. The only thing I found lacking at this place was the service. It was so hard to get the attention of the waiting staff. All in all I enjoyed the ambience and the food.

Too terrible. The taste was nice 1 year ago, but they changed too much now. The most menu changed into another local way. I ordered delivery this time, but only this restaurant seems to call this "Spaghetti Napoli" in the world. I couldn't eat even a little.

Busy bar and restaurant with probably the best view in Dar. Packed at sunset. Good is excellent especially the tikka prawn skewers. Jerk chicken was a little dry and not too comparable to its Jamaican roots! Beer is cold and staff are attentive

The food was spectacular. We stumbled upon this place while on a day trip from Zanzíbar. I enjoyed the prawns with veggies and my significant other enjoyed the chicken. I don't remember the exact name of his dish but, in his words, "this may be the best chicken I've ever had." The drinks were also delectable. I definitely recommend. Flavors are unforgettable! By the way, the food was so good that we didn't get photos. My apologies.

We were staying af hotel Slipway and decided to have dinner at the Waterfront. I had the Tuna, probably the best Tuna I've ever had. Great view over the sea. Wonderful restaurant and great location. Great selection of food for all ages.
Ásdís Ósk Valsdóttir — Google review
The view here is amazing. The food is even better. During the day time and especially during the months of November and December when I was there it gets unbearably hot in the afternoon. It’s an open sitting and might have to put up with the more than occasional cigarette smokers. Did not see a designated smoking area, which is not ideal for a non smoker. All else, the food is fantastic and the waiter who served was able to explain the menu and recommend an absolutely amazing meal which came out in a surprisingly short period. Plating was also well thought out! Possible the best food in Dar es Salaam Masaki areas just yet!
George Wakaria — Google review
Excellent service and one of the nicest spots in the city in terms of venue and views. The food is mediocre, though. Avoid the pizza, which was the worst I've had in Dar. I ordered the sausage pizza and it came with cut slices of hot dog and close to zero marinara sauce (I think they used ketchup).

305 Karafuu is a delightful eatery that recently opened its doors. On my initial visit, I was particularly impressed by the excellent service provided by the waitstaff. They were attentive and well-mannered. The ambiance of the restaurant was also noteworthy, especially because of the stunning Baobab tree that adorned the space. Their desserts are truly remarkable in terms of taste and presentation.
I liked it so much I went back twice. The place is cool, full of lovely artwork and curios, the food is lovely but most of all I enjoyed chatting with Casper the charismatic owner. He’s a softly spoken world traveler with many stories and a twinkle in his eye. Highly recommended.

Visited the new spot in Masaki The place has an interesting design, looks a-bit unfinished but more on cute side especially at night Their menu is on the expensive side and a bit limited especially for vegetarians I asked for their chicken royale with fries. Was kinda disappointing to be honest. The chicken was not juicy and hard to cut through and slightly red inside. The vegetables and sides that came with were just okay. The fries were good. This dish was 27,500 The service was also just okay. Could be improved I have had better experiences at the old 305, so perhaps this was just a one off experience I’d still recommend

☀️ Giving good old pan-African vibes, nice outdoors seating area. 😭 Service is a bit lacking though. Pros: food is decent , nice display of condiments( salt/pepper/pilipili/ketchup) Cons: service is lacking. The waitress welcomed and took our order fine, but soon as we left a 3000 TSH tip (which is the standard as it was just two people and we didn’t order much) her face dropped and acted like we didn’t exist. Very unprofessional behaviour. It should be corrected during wait staff training.

This is the first time I have visited the new location. What I liked: The service by servers was great. The one we had was very well trained and polite. The decor was great especially the Baobab tree. Their deserts are incredible. What I didn’t fancy: I was not impressed by the steaks like it once was in the old location. Their portions have gone down a-bit and were chewy. However the chicken that my cousin ordered was great.

305 Karafuu is a really nice restaurant. I normally go for Steak Royale here and Apple Pie. The decor is beautiful and they put a Tanzanian twist on international cuisine with some local dishes as well. I love the Fisherman's soup as well. I hope they consider opening a branch in Masaki/Oyster Bay as this location is hard to find if you have never been before.

I’ve visited the place twice. I’ve really wanted to try their oxtail but it wasn’t available on that day. I disappointedly resolved to eat something else. The other day I went with a group of friends. We had reserved a table & asked if oxtail will be available before hand. They promised it will be available. When we got there the table wasn’t even set up and guess what there was no oxtail. I’ve given up.

Seafood restaurant
This seafood restaurant in Dar es Salaam, known for its addiction to salmon sashimi, is a popular spot with excellent views and service. It offers fresh and tasty food with well-trained staff. Highly recommended are their two addresses in Stown Town as well as In Dar es Salaam. The added bonus is the availability of good wifi, allowing guests to work undisturbed. The cocktails are also great.
Good location with great atmosphere. A ervice is good and so is the food in which they have range of varieties from Sushi to fresh sea food. You can enjoy a performance of live band on Sundays with great sea views and sunsets. This place has a good vibe

Excellent views, excellent service, the food is pretty great, and they have great drinks too plus live music. Must visit in Dar especially for sunset. Great restaurant. My B & B recommended it, as it was just a few doors down. It didn't disappoint. The food & drink menus were impressive. The atmosphere was both lively and laid-back, and it provides live music on the weekends. The staff were amazing! One recommendation for improvement: feature REGIONAL ARTISTS in the Playlist! As an American, I was really disappointed to only hear American music on each of my four visits. It's a lost opportunity to connect with tourists who value greater authenticity from travel.

Best seafood restaurants in Dar Es Salaam. All types of sea food are available here at very affordable prices. Very pleasant environment located by the sea here is a very busy restaurant. Foreign tourists come here and enjoy a lot. There is no mess of local public here. Many types of alcohol are available here you can choose according to your choice.
