Impressive historical church in the middle of the city center of Arezzo. You definitely will walk along this nice place and building when you pay a visit to Arezzo. We were here in September 2021, while it was not too crowded. We didn’t pay a visit to the inside because you can see the inside through a “door window”… .

This Basilica has being built in the 13th century and it is famous for the fresco on the wall by Piero dela Francesca. Visitors are allowed only for specific time , around 30 minutes, in the church and you have to buy a ticket before which costs 8 euro.

Piero della Francesca was an Italian painter and mathematician, whose work - centered almost exclusively on religious subjects - exerted a strong influence on many Renaissance painters. he gained his reputation through his artistic representations in perspective and through geometric forms, as well as through the theoretical knowledge formulated in his writings. To its recognition were added very realistic elaboration of details, refined color palette and bold decorative solutions. In 1452, Piero della Francesca receives the order for the decoration of the choir of the church of San Francesco in Arezzo, after which the cycle of paintings was born illustrating the most important episodes of the "Legend of the true cross", inspired by the story "The Legend of Gold" by Jacques de Voragine from the thirteenth century. The cycle contains six large scenes, three on each of the two sides of the chapel, as well as a group of smaller frescoes. The work on this monumental work will take many years, as the artist travels all the time and always accepts new orders. The fresco will be finished only between 1462-1466.

Good stained glass windows & ceiling paintings. In the crypt there was an exhibition of Style & Costume in Italy 1900-1960 which was very interesting with some fine exhibits & a nice fresco ceiling.

A definite must see if you are anywhere near Arezzo. The church is quite amazing and the frescos are quite amazing!

Absolutely gorgeous place! Not so many tourists, great atmosphere and very organic place (no barriers etc.). Seems like the cathedral management trusts tourists to behave and allows them to basically walk around which creates as I have said an organic experience. Entry is free.

This is my fourth time visiting Venice, and my first time in the summer, in August. My advice to everyone is to come in the fall or spring, because in summer Venice becomes unbearably crowded. Crowds of people, disgusting service in restaurants (though of course not everywhere), and long waits for cabs all lead to an uncomfortable atmosphere. Parking lots are often overcrowded. However, in spring and fall there are no such problems and you can have a great time. Venice is a beautiful city, but not during the vacation season.

The Cathedral in Arezzo was my favorite church. I liked that they had the real candles to light, beautiful architecture, different Chapel in church to pray. Overall less crowded. Also loved that this church had holy water as some other churches did not.

The first cathedral of Arezzo was built on the nearby Pionta Hill, over the burial place of Donatus of Arezzo, martyred in 363. In 1203 Pope Innocent III had the cathedral moved within the city's walls, to the current site. The cathedral however lost the relics of Donatus, which were transferred to the church of San Donato in Castiglione Messer Raimondo (in what is now the province of Teramo). In spite of this, the cathedral is still dedicated to Saint Donatus and at the high altar houses a 14th-century arch named after him.

Well preserved Cathedral with some hidden treasures inside. The ceiling was painted elaborately. Must see place when you are in Arezzo.

A Gothic style ancient church built across 13th and 14th century and financed by local Guelfi ruched families. The church hosts the incredible painted crucifix realised by Cimabue. The building undergone restoration in early 1900 and in 2005. It's a must-do stop while touring around Arezzo.

The Arezzo home of the 16th Century artist/art historian Vasari. Approx 5 decorated rooms and a terrace garden. At July 23 entrance was €5. Interesting in itself but more so if you have in interest in high renaissance art. Would take somewhere between 30 mins and an hour to go round.

Beautiful little collection of paintings , dreamy painted ceilings / frescoes in sixteenth century artist Giorgio Vasaris home (which he bought in 1541) On display there were just four small rooms (on the first floor) plus a pretty walled garden, so you can easily fit this visit into a morning in Arezzo even if you just have a spare half an hour or so. €5 was a fair price for a little aesthetic satisfaction, but I had imagined more than one floor would be open to view and that the layout would be set up as his original home would have been (the kitchen , the boudoir, the living room etc) however that was a total assumption I made up in my head before hand . I didn’t book online but was lucky there were no other people inside when I arrived so I was allowed straight in. They do recommended booking as they only have certain time slots and are apparently closed Tuesdays! July 2023.

Very small but beautiful rooms with frescoes in the ceiling, especially notable the one with with the arts depicted (music, sculpture, painting and architecture) and the main one with the fireplace. In the latter there is a central depiction of the allegory of virtue, fortune and envy (virtù, fortuna e invidia). Depending from which side of the room you are looking the painting a different one of the three seems victorious! On the walls fire (on the fireplace side) with a city in flame and abundace on the opposite (with a city flooded).

Today we visited the small family owned vineyard Villa La Ripa. What a beautiful place and history of the vineyard. It was fascinating to hear the story and follow Claudia‘s little anecdotes about her own & family’s experiences as she grew up here since she was 6 years old. The wines, cheese & olive oil we tasted were very delicious. We like, that the wine is produced only from grapes, that they grow & harvest themselves. The room you do the tasting in is also beautiful. We left this place overjoyed.

The wine tasting was great. We really liked the Peconio and Syrah-Syrah. The rosé is a very smooth one, not as sweet as you would expect. During the tasting you also get some very good cheese and olive oil. I can fully recommend it.

Brilliant visit with friends to this winery! The villa itself is spectacular, and the wines were lovely. Particularly the sparkling rose was my favourite. We had a picnic in the vineyard and it was such a fun experience. Thank you for the hospitality!

We visited on the Sunday of the first weekend in July to escape the ' antiques fair' held that expensive weekend (of which the vast majority of stalls sold mostly 'tot' ). We mostly had the site to ourselves. The mainer reason for visiting is the glorious views over the town and the hilly countryside. A slow walk around the walls is relaxing and the site is not too expensive to enter. You can walk through the inside of some of the walls to cool down afterwards. The Fortezza is accessed through Parco Il Prato a largish park that was being set up for their summer festival. It was a good (if slightly expensive cafe) to sit and enjoy a cappuccino and after the visit.

It worth the visit is stupendously restored with fabulous lighting inside, The walk all over it perimeters of the wall of the Fortress is let you see the wanderlust of the Tuscan landscape, including the two towers and the Spire of the Cathedral from there, is a place where they hold live music and arts display too.

Interesting museum, built inside a former monastery which in turn was built on top of Roman amphitheatre. You can see half of the remaining Roman ruins in the garden of the museum. Highlights from the collections are the small baby statue which were offered ti the gods for request of fertility, some beautiful roman painted vase and great jewellery. Also very strange Etruscan tools called "graffion" similar to metal hooks we still nowadays don't know the use.

This museum was initially a Roman amphitheater (!) i at about 1300 monks took it and transformed into a monastery. Me and my family ventured around many beautiful rooms packed with artcraft from the Neolithic time to Etruscan and Romans with some very unique pieces !!!! I took us a bit more than an hour to go around and we loved it. What we enjoyed the most was the people who worked there who gave us incredible information about the objects we where looking at. Very friendly and knowledgable indeed. They really made our visit unforgettable. Thank you very much!!!! We’ll be back for sure!

Be aware of the different opening times before and after April 1st, also you have to be exactly on time e.g. at 3pm, 4.30 pm and 6pm. The doors open for 10 minutes and are closed until the next opening time which is 90min later. If you like museums and medieval art it is well worth visiting, for which each turn has 75 minutes.
