Truly unique frescoes from Piero de la Francesco and a cross from Cimabue. A beautiful church. There is an entry fee to be paid.

Morning Mass at 7 a.m. at the Cathedral - Wonderful - A story like Giorgio Bassani +++++++++++++++++++++ Italy, again, has become a country which is very attractive to travel to - to better understand what people do and what "notion" (Begriff) of time people have. Over the last years, I went several times to Arezzo, a city I know from the 1990s. Indeed, Arezzo is a small town, quiet, well structured. Go to a good Hotel (Graziella Patio), and come along to take photographs for better understanding. Bring a powerful "camera" (indeed : camera), since the places and streets, most paved, are complicated. And have time, to look at the People, have some coffee or a beer at Piazza Grande. After getting somewhat acquainted with the city, establish a new exercice, to get up early, somewhat at around 6 a.m. . Have a first coffee. And go the the Cathedral, absolutely up the hill, and you will have to go not too fast. The street is steep. Usually, if you are erally acquainted, you will see three religious sisters coming from the side, in her habits. The morning mass is held at 7 a.m., in the wonderful side chapel. There may be around 40 to 50 people, of all kind, and of a multitude of ages. Some, as you may guess, are going afterwards to work. For the time being, there is alwys an old priest, quite tall, wonderfully speaking and singing. It is very religious, but all means it has nothing of "Kitsch". When there is the benediction at the end, you feel relieved and can go back to the Hotel, to have real breakfast. This time, you are going downwards, it is easier. Here some photographs taken in Arezzo in May 2016, with fog. I presume Giorgio Bassani, who was born in Ferrara and was Jewish, a great writer, would have liked the story.

Updated July 2022 Free admission. Inside you’ll find plenty of fragments of frescos that have yet to be restored. It also has quite an intricate altar, despite its dim interior.

The „Pieve“ is located at the main place in Arezzo, the entry is free of charge. Interesting crypt and decoration.

the house can be visited separately or in a ticket combined with the church of san francesco. the visit lasts 30 minutes. you only visit one floor and the garden of the house. in the house you can see frescoes painted by Vasari and other painters from that period. The house is well preserved. Vasari, painter, architect and Italian art historian, became famous through his work: "The lives of the most renowned Italian architects, painters and sculptors, from Cimabue to our times." Giorgio Vasari was born on July 30, 1511 in Arezzo. In the year 1550 the first edition of the work to which Vasari's reputation is linked appears: "Vite de 'più eccellenti architetti, pittori et scultori italiani da Cimabue insino a' TEMPOS", in which he orders the materials collected since 1540 on the life and works great artists. During this period he meets Michelangelo, who advises him to also deal with architecture. In 1568 the second edition of his capital work of art history "Vite de 'più eccellenti ..." appears, enriched with new materials and which constitutes to this day an indispensable source of documentation in this field. In 1554 he settled in Florence, invited by the Duke Cosimo I de 'Medici, who hired him for urban and architectural works. It begins with the restructuring of the old palace ("Palazzo Vecchio"), then continues with the construction of the administrative building "Palazzo degli Uffizi", which will be completed only in 1580, after his death, and which will later become the famous art gallery. In 1563 he begins the great frescoes for the decoration of the "di Cinquecento" salon in Palazzo Vecchio, and in 1565 he begins to build the so-called "Corridoio vasariano" ("The Vasarian Corridor"), which unites Palazzo Vecchio with Palazzo Pitti, crossing the Arno river over Ponte Vecchio, which should serve as a refuge for the ducal family in case of need.

Wonderful wine tasting and tour personalized by the owner, Dr Luzzi. He is very passionate about his wines and is very knowledgeable about the history, art and architecture of the beautiful villa originally started in 1000AD. Bigger and better museum than expected. Good insight into prehistoric to Medieval history of the region, highlighting most interestingly the Etruscan era. Beautiful pieces from Etruscan and Roman times. Too bad some of the top pieces from the Arezzo archaeological site are located in Firenze such as the actual Chimaera, but those are replicated here in loving ways.

A superb collection of maiolica (pottery) competing with Bargello and every national museum, arms, medieval and Renaissance painting : Signorelli, Danti, Pierino da Vinci and the largest and stunning collection of Vasari masterpieces.

Fantastic museum and building, which holds the offices of a very nice olive oil and wine producer.

It is a very interesting museum, with o lot of unique pieces. It is definitely something you should not miss when you visit Arezzo

Update July 2022. 5 minute walk from train station. Free admission to view Roman Amphitheatre from the park. ( although you can pay for museum entry and up close access. However, museum has very restricted hours) see attached pictures. It was nice to view the ruins and it’s ground. Not much explanation but it allows your imagination go wild!!
