Absolutely brilliant! If you love the Roman era and anything to do with the Roman Empire and its people, this is a perfect place to discover lots of interesting facts, including a perfectly preserved amphitheatre and the barracks. Can't wait to go back! You need to plan a whole day to visit as it is in 3 different sites. You need to buy entry tickets at the Roman Baths which allows you to look around in the bath area. We didn't seem to need tickets at the museum or at the barracks. For those who travel by public transport, the best bus routes are #27 and #28 from Newport Bus station to Caerleon but check in advance in case they changed it. Have fun! 😁

This museum allows you to understand the history of the Romans coming to Britain. Although the exhibition is not large, every exhibition is very precious and worth seeing.

We spent a couple of hours exploring Caerleon. The baths were fascinating although my grand daughter wasn't impressed she's 5! Lots of local roman history with lots still undiscovered it seems. We also walked up to the museum which is free and filled with great things to look at. We also found the amphitheatre and barracks. Worth a visit and a wander. You have to pay to park at the baths, but you could park at the amphitheatre and walk down, all are close. Worth an hour or two.

Omg I love this place, we've been here so many times, from a young child to an adult an the history of this place still amazes me! You can see loads of ruins an get to feel what it would be like to be a roman! I can't imagine 6people in one toilet room can you ? 😅 it's perfect for all ages well worth the visit.

A lovely little village with so much history! This Roman bath house was tucked back off the main street in an unassuming building at the back of what seems to be a pub carpark, so keep your eyes open for it! But it was a great fine. Friendly staff took our £4.80 (each) entry fee and we wandered around. Lots of signage and viewpoints, all clearly laid out detailing the history and some fun interactive games for the kids (and us big kids!). A lovely little find. Glad we followed those brown Road signs!!

Very nice for an afternoon visit to the baths (pay for) and the free museum and outdoor sites.

I visited the baths (£5.00), the baracks and the amphitheatre (these are free). I didn't go to the museum so I don't know if there's an entrance fee. They are not all in the same place, for the amphitheatre and the barracks it's a 5-10 minutes walk. There's not really much to see, but it's informative and a nice addition to the list of Roman ruins fans. Public transport - lines 29, 29A from Newport Friars Walk bus station

Superb exhibit of rare (in Britain) Roman outdoor bath. Staff are welcoming and informative. Parking requires the RingGo parking app or coins as the carpark is owned by the pub next door. If you don't want to visit the pub (to get parking for free) park at the Amphitheatre instead as it is only a short walk.

Hidden gem filled with a lot of informative displays and audio about Roman bathhouses in from 75 AD. So many things were excavated. Loved the Slaaaaave!! Audios and the kids play zones. Loads to visit

The highlight of my visit to Caerleon and well worth the admission price. Don't forget to listen to the audio presentations as they really give colour to the whole experience, and are quite funny too!

Worth a visit - light effects make the big pool look pretty special & there are lots of info boards with just the right amount of info to enjoy reading them. Wheelchair accessible (maybe less so if you have a big power chair). Parking outside (or park for free near the amphitheatre & walk over).

Amazing area with lots to see especially if you live all things Roman! There’s the excavated barracks, Amphitheatre, Roman Baths and Museum! Really fascinating so glad we visited! The village has a few pubs and coffee shops plus hotel so you can make a whole day of it!

It's OK. Pricey for a couple of minutes it takes to walk around. The museum down the road is free and much better time spent.. car park is tiny and you have to pay. I recommend going to amphitheatre and park there and walk back up..

Very interesting remains of Roman baths, with engaging explanations that bring it to life. We really enjoyed it.

Amphitheatre and Fortress were a little underwhelming - too few information signs and little explanation of architecture etc... But the Caerleon Roman Legionary Museum was pretty great - helpful staff, good signage and open great hours!

We had a really enjoyable visit to this fabulous museum.and garden in Caerleon.So much history and many interesting artefacts found locally on display.Kids would love it as there is an area with helmets and things to dress up in.The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable and told us lots of interesting facts about the area.Will definately visit again.Id like to see the Roman baths,which look amazing.Well worth a visit if youre in the area or live nearby.Oh and its free entry to the museum too,though you can give a donation if you choose!

Free entrance & Free parking available, about 3 min walk from the museum - both for cars & coaches. Really great stuff to see & lots of activities for kids. Can dress up as a Roman soldier, fight with swords (made of soft materials) & see how Roman barracks looked. The garden has an olive tree, along with other things Roman. Really useful if it is a rainy day and any outdoor activities are difficult. Free parking available, about 3 min walk from the museum - both for cars & coaches. Drive past the Priory hotel to find the parking. Might get filled soon on busy days.

The museum was an excellent experience. Entry is free and there is a thorough amount of exhibits to go through. Of particular interest were the several full sized models of Roman soldiers of various ranks, completed with armour and weaponry. The outside garden, with various plants that were used in the time of Roman Britain were fascinating as well. There was also an abundance of fascinating artefacts recovered from the local areas on display.

Really informative museum, with a lot crammed in to a comparatively small space (though plenty of breathing room - it never felt cramped). The Roman garden out back was really pleasant as well, and staff were really helpful in providing information (and one was kind enough to refill my water bottle). Great spot - hugely recommended for those interested in Romano-British history.

Staff/volunteers were entertaining and helpful. The museum displays were amazing and we loved the garden. We came across a lovely, fluffy cat who would’ve sat on my lap all day if we’d let him/her. Would recommend. Even better, it was free. Next to a church with beautiful grounds (and squirrels). Also within walking distance of an outdoor Roman site so best bring your coat.

I haven't been here for years and took my children today for the first time. The staff were lovely and the kids had a great time dressing up, colouring and pretending to battle. It would have been lovely to have had something interactive for the younger kids, but it was very enjoyable.

Excellent! Having spent the summer in Italy, which was actually lacking in Roman related museums, we decided to give here a go to see an actual Roman solider. And despite only being half an hour down the road it didn’t disappoint! We spent around an hour in here looking around, dressing up in play clothes and a good 15 to 20 men’s speaking to the gentleman outside who had extremely good and interesting knowledge on Roman history. On his recommendation we went across the road to another free to visit area and he also recommend another nearby Roman village that we’re going to visit next weekend. FREE to get into but we put a nice donation in the box as it’s worth the money. Was a steady stream of people who were coming to visit but it wasn’t crowded. Got a magnet for £1.50 at the gift shop was is cheap by gift shop standards.. will prob come back in the future and will watch out for any special events.

Today I had the chance to be a part of a school trip to Caerleon museums.I was so impressed the way the lesson about the Roman Era was presented The children were involved to take part of a small piece which gave them the chance to touch to the life of the Romes ..there were Rich people and Slaves... It wasn't the boring museums ...it was like interactive game .. The second one with the swimming pools 1500y ago ...The story ..about the pool,the warm room...the soldiers . OMG I fell in love with the history /something i didn't like much at school/.. Thats my second trip with this school and I am really impressed the way the children are studying.

Awesome awesome awesome! We went over Easter when they had the *Roman bootcamp " for the kids and it was so good. The guys running the bootcamp had so much energy and enthusiasm it made the kids love it and pay attention. If this is ruining again I can't recommend it more. The rest of the museum is very good as well, the recreation is the sleeping room and the armour you can try on went down a hit.

It's a nice, informative museum with knowledgeable staff at hand to fill in the gaps...of which there were many. It was walking round the exhibits which included everything from tiles, coins, weapons all the way to even Roman soldiers. Be sure to enquire about their faces and I was also curious about their size too. We enjoyed our foray into the National Roman Legion Museum.

Fascinating museum, small but such a lot of artefacts to look at, great history and lovely little Roman garden! Definitely worth a visit

Spent an hour exploring the museum and its Roman artefacts. Free entry and educational facilities also provided for young children. Two knowledgeable and charming members of staff Megan and Lauren made for a pleasant visit. Clean toilets including disabled toilets available. First visit despite living locally for 62 yrs.

Fascinating insight into Roman life at the fort with loads of finds on display. There are some recreations of soldiers' uniforms as well as a barrack room set up in the way it would have been. Kids can try on legionary armour and there are play sets as well. Out the back is a Roman garden with a little house at the end - on holidays there is a re-enactor dressed up offering info on weapons and Roman medicine. Well worth a visit. It's free, with an option to donate £5 - it's brilliant, so well worth supporting

I love a bridge, and a transporter bridge is wonderful. The information boards were very interesting. The gondola was on the other side of the river and it looks like its not being used. I will definitely go back when I have more time to go to the other side.

We were lucky enough to attend the last open day before the bridge is refurbished. It was a glorious sunny day and we loved climbing up to walk across the top of the bridge. Not for the faint hearted though! Volunteers were all lovely and very enthusiastic. Can't wait to go back in 2024.

This transporter bridge will not appeal to everyone but people that enjoy engineering and structural design will like this. Created at the turn of the 20th century to fill a need to get to the other side of a strong river and still allow tall ships to pass through under the bridge. There are only eight of these still working in the entire world so if in the Newport area stop in for a quick viewing.

One of only a handful in the world is being restored again and has been closed through the CoVid pandemic. It is a wonderful sight, we were given an update by a passing cyclist with a transporter bridge hat on which was very kind. Hopefully opening again soon 😃

It's an interesting and rather unique experience. Must walk over the top, unless you are afraid of heights of course. It's 50 metres high and it's a mesh floor so can see all the way down while walking across. There are 278 steps on each side so fitness is also needed beside courage. The wind is very strong at top, be careful with loose items, phones and cameras. In exchange for the effort the view from top is beautiful, can see the movement mechanism, and there's an easter egg from the past around the middle 😃

People come from many different countries to visit this iconic landmark. It's something that all Welsh people should be proud of as it's one of the few transporter bridges in the world that is still operational. Walking across the top of the bridge gives marvellous views of Newport and beyond. The long walk up the stairs is well worth the effort and the staff are friendly as well as knowledgeable. The bridge isn't open every day so it's worth checking online or with Newport city council for the exact opening times. Certainly well worth a visit.

What a fantastic icon and a one off gem in Newports Crown. Staff really helpful and knowledgeable, especially Rob, looked a bit like Captain Birdseye, but very informative. Lots of info and artifacts to be seen at the local information centre. While I was there to walk over the top, I was joined by a guy who travelled up that morning from Cornwall, he read about it and decided to come up 👍 well worth a trip and do the walk over then return by the gondala, all for £4.

The transporter bridge is a Newport icon, with a beautiful gondola taking you over the Usk from West to East Newport & back again. A walk over the top is recommended (if you can manage the steps) for fantastic views of the estuary and city. It is closing in September 2020 for a couple of years of much-needed maintenance and hopefully a brand new, improved visitor centre. They are still fundraising for the money. Go and visit whilst you can. The Newport Museum & Art Gallery has a featured display about the Transporter Bridge, if you want to to visit there after your trip.

Impressive. Run by volunteers with open days, no one about, all locked up whilst we were there. Not a lot else to see as this is beside a very busy road. Had concerns where I'd parked the car. A lot of rubbish, damage and signs of cars being broken into.

I absolutely loved this place. The staff were very helpful. I had booked a mobility scooter which was a godsend. To pick it up at the reception which was a bit of a walk for me, they said that they would have brought the scooter to where the car was if they had known. The cafe had a good choice of snacks. We both had a lovely sandwich, coffee and Welsh tea. We set off following the map given. There's a choice of routes you can take depending on how long or far you want to walk following the paths surrounded by reeds and flowering plants. There's also a pontoon over water with a lot of assorted fish. Different birds can be heard whilst you wend your way through the wetlands. This all so enjoyable especially if your a nature lover.

This is a very large nature reserve with a welcoming visitors centre, shop and cafe. There is a children's play area outside the visitors centre. Parking used to be free until a few years ago. You now need to pay for a token at the visitors centre before you leave, this was £4 when we last visited. RSPB members can park for free but still need to collect a token from the visitors centre before they leave. There are a large variety of walks around the reserve and you could quite easily spend a few hours here. Some of the paths link up with the wider walking networking, including the Wales Coast Path. There are also a couple of bird watching hides located at different parts of the reserve.

There's a reasonable amount of parking, and it's not too expensive if you're staying for a while. Pay using the machine in the building to get a token that opens the barrier. There are varying length walks, it's not too far to get to the path along the coast where you can see various birds such as curlew and oyster catcher on the mud. You might catch sight of a bittern. The cafe is good and has big glass windows that look over some water. At the moment (Jan 2024) there's a good chance of seeing a kingfisher there. There's some play equipment for children, plus picnic tables.

This was just stunning. We weren't sure what to expect visiting and my what a lovely surprise. Beautiful weather, views and just a lovely place to be and enjoy nature. Totally recommend!

Great place for the family to enjoy nature. We Pay for RSPB membership so parking is free. Staff are great The shop looks really nice with a wide range of bird watching and feeding products. Toilets on site are very clean We didnt eat at the cafe, but it looked nice. The only down side was I did spot a bit of litter. It amazes me that even at place that are nature reserves some people still drop litter.

Superb wetland area for wildlife. Excellent staff in the shop and cafe and generally the volunteers that help around the site. Excellent place to view the starling murmurations in autumn too.

Very nice open space walked to the light house and along the coastal path a fair distance lovely views not many birds,as in swans or ducks seen tho on that day

Nice flat easy walking. Not many birds to be seen but August can be a quiet month. Impressive nos of bees, including the rare carder bee, on everlasting pea and other flowers. Nice cafe/restaurant and shop. Plenty of parking free for RSPB members.

Nice walk and friendly staff, Just wish there were some bins on the dog route to put the dog poo in and that there was more seating for dog walkers outside the cafe. it was also quiet expensive. £4 parking, £4 for a sandwich which wasn't the biggest portion. Could be a bit expensive if you have kids.

Love the wetlands, great for a decent walk and lots of great wildlife. Saw my first whitethroat there :)

A changeable day ... sun ... rain. Relaxation place for adults and children .Spaces to play and visit. We returned to this location to walk, but this time with a puppy Hugo. There are no bins to put the dogs' poo bags in. So if we still have a trail for puppies, it must be set up as such with everything they need.

Lovely hidden gem. Plenty of nature all around. Sculpture trails, pond dipping, a little play area for the children (not as great as the old park that was there before but a little wooden house to climb in and a wooden tower with rope) parking is £4 and you pay in reception and get a little token you need to pop into the barrier to open it on your way out. Car park closes at 5pm. We seen lots of ducks and the children enjoyed running around. Definitely worth a visit. They have a little gift shop and Cafe and you can hire binoculars and bug hunt backpacks.

If you love nature, this is the place to go,lovely walks. Nice little cafe that does snacks coffee and cakes. Looking onto a beautiful lake.

Lovely wetlands to explore although there weren't many migratory birds about due to the time of year, there were lots of lovely bees and insects that we spotted. All the volunteers and staff were absolutely lovely and so friendly and helpful! We signed up for the RSPB membership at the entrance with the lovely tall friendly lad and came across another couple of volunteers/helpers that offered me the use of hiring a mobility scooter to scoot about with over the terrain (much to hubby's delight at not having to push me up that hill in the regular wheelchair we were using haha!) Even my teenage kids enjoyed themselves using the binoculars we hired from the front desk!

Excellent place for a nice walk and a look at the local wildlife. There's also an RSPB centre with toilets, cafe and shop, so obviously we had a lovely time.

It was Newport marathon day, so we had the place to ourselves. Had a lovely lunch in the café. I recommend the Welsh rarebit it was wonderful. The staff looked after us so well, and we had a table overlooking the pond, it was lovely. Well worth a visit, lots of walks, very informative and a lovely lunch. What could be better!

A great place to explore, the amphitheatre is easy to find, free parking outside and easy to access. If you are visiting, the remains of the barracks are just across the way, you could then pop along to the museum (it's free) and the Roman baths (chargeable) which are just down the road. Plenty of history to explore.

Easy access from the car park. Dog friendly place. Access to the site is free. From April 1 through October 31, the site is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. From November 1 through March 31, the site is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Last entry is always 30 minutes before closing. This Roman amphitheater is said to be King Arthur's legendary Round Table. Built around AD 90 to entertain the legionaries stationed at the fort of Caerleon (Isca), this impressive amphitheatre was the Roman equivalent of today’s multiplex cinema. Wooden benches provided seating for up to 6,000 spectators, who would gather to watch bloodthirsty displays featuring gladiatorial combat and exotic wild animals. Long after the Romans left, the amphitheatre took on a new life in Arthurian legend. Geoffrey of Monmouth, the somewhat imaginative 12th-century scholar, wrote in his History of the Kings of Britain that Arthur was crowned in Caerleon and that the ruined amphitheatre was actually the remains of King Arthur’s Round Table.

Caerleon Roman Fortress Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths encompass the archaeological ruins and sites of the Legionary Fortress of Isca Augusta spread across the town of Caerleon, near the city of Newport, South Wales. Notable for being one of only three permanent legionary fortresses from Roman Britain (the others being York and Chester), Caerleon has provided a unique opportunity to study the archaeology of a Roman Legionary fortress, less affected by the medieval and subsequent urban activity of most such fortresses. Having attracted the attention of eminent archaeologists throughout the 20th century it now has four major public archaeological venues, including the museum run by Cadw, called 'Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths' (Welsh: Caer a Baddonau Rhufeinig Caerllion Amgueddfa), featuring the excavated fortress bath-house. Also open to the public is the most complete excavated amphitheatre in Britain, a series of barracks and the National Roman Legion Museum. The fortress and its surrounding civil settlement have been the subject of continuing major archaeological investigations into the 21st century. Background and history Main articles: Isca Augusta and Caerleon Roman Wales was the farthest point west that the Roman Empire in Roman Britain extended to, and as a defence point, the fortress at Caerleon built in AD 75 was one of only three permanent Roman Legionary fortresses in Roman Britain. It was occupied and operational for just over 200 years. Caerleon's archaeological history The earliest description of Caerleon's Roman ruins is in Gerald of Wales's 12th century Itinerarium Cambriae. He was fully aware of the Roman historical significance of Caerleon and also gives extensive archaeological detail. Much may be fanciful or drawn from other locations however, and the features were certainly not apparent by later centuries. But his description confirmed Caerleon as a notable historical site: Caerleon means the city of Legions, Caer, in the British language, signifying a city or camp, for there the Roman legions, sent into this island, were accustomed to winter, and from this circumstance it was styled the city of legions. This city was of undoubted antiquity, and handsomely built of masonry, with courses of bricks, by the Romans. Many vestiges of its former splendour may yet be seen; immense palaces, formerly ornamented with gilded roofs, in imitation of Roman magnificence, inasmuch as they were first raised by the Roman princes, and embellished with splendid buildings; a tower of prodigious size, remarkable hot baths, relics of temples, and theatres, all inclosed within fine walls, parts of which remain standing. You will find on all sides, both within and without the circuit of the walls, subterraneous buildings, aqueducts, underground passages; and what I think worthy of notice, stoves contrived with wonderful art, to transmit the heat insensibly through narrow tubes passing up the side walls. There are further indications that significant ruins or building survived into the medieval period. The vast stone complex of the fortress baths are thought to have been destroyed in the 13th century,and the ditch at 10 Mill Street was identified as still standing open in the Middle Ages. An engraving of 1783 shows a crumbling tower and roman stonework. The Antiquarians Through the 1840s some ad hoc excavations were made, which, along with finds from construction works culminated in the foundation of the Caerleon Antiquarian Association in October 1847, with the twin aims of carrying out excavations and providing a museum to house the finds. An early project, possibly even predating the new Association was an excavation of the extramural bathhouse. This was alongside the medieval castle motte, within its bailey, on land owned by John Jenkins and it was undertaken by John Edward Lee, who became the secretary and initial driving force of the Association.

Amazing. Let your imagination run wild, as you stroll through some ancient history at this old Roman ruins in Wales. What really took place here? How many people were sitting in the old amphitheater watching. Awesome stuff! A must see!

Good place to visit for an afternoon stroll. The ruins could do with a few placards to say what the various features are as they do in Tintern Abbey. Did not do the wall walk as it was overgrown. However. these are small niggles that did not spoil the overall experience.

Excellent Roman ruins and base for the Second Augustan Legion many years ago. Plenty of Roman things nearby for a full day out including the museum (with Roman gardens), baths and barracks. Lovely town too for a stroll, shopping, lunch or a drink.

I can't believe I haven't been here until this year after having lived my whole life less than an hour away! Really interesting site - plenty of families with children playing about - would be ideal for outdoor theatre in the summer! Plenty of free parking nearby, and lots more Roman remains to see around the town.

Will worth a visit when in the town. Free, surprisingly well preserved. Could do with a little more explanatory signage (there's only 1 sign up above the area) Parking next to it or on the road - don't bother with the paid one next to the baths.

A nice family park. If you are looking for a peaceful place to spend time with family. This park has ample parking space, please do carry cash.. the card machine was not working when we were there.. the best part of the day was to cherish the musical band at the park.. a wonderful place.

Great park with super tea room. The park is on a hill with some steps and paths on an incline. Mature trees and beautiful flower beds. Really loved the quaint old fashioned tearoom serving lunch snacks, cakes and teas and coffees. Outside the tearoom builfing currently has scaffolding around it, but is is open. Very quick efficient service and great selection of cakes.

Beautiful, well maintained, Victorian park. The tea rooms are pleasant, serving nice refreshments. There are lovely childrens' play areas. It is lovely to walk around or have a picnic. Definitely dog friendly, with lots of dog walkers. Very clean.

Beautiful park with steep hills, my daughter really enjoyed walking around and playing at the park there. Perfect Sunday morning walk!

It's a lovely place to walk with your family. Easy parking, coffee, toilets and a very nice, quiet and beautiful area to walk or seat in one of the multiple benches and relax.

We were there for our passport appointment and wanted to kill an hour. What an amazing beautiful place to let kids play in the play area, enjoy the lovely grounds and amazing tearooms.

Amazing park to walk, sit, shout and laugh. Well maintained, long walk pavements alongside huge old trees. One of the oldest trees of Newport reside here, many times this place gives me lot of positive thoughts to immerse with nature. Have felt how big this earth and how tiny are we self. Benches with memories, greenery and dogs playing around, just everything makes this place perfect! Last and not least, the coffee house over the top offers reasonable priced drinks, desserts and buffets. Overall a very good place to hangout self or in groups .

Belle Vue Park is without doubt the prettiest park in Newport. Throughout the year it offers beautiful colours. The tea rooms and bandstand are especially gorgeous. Offering refreshments and bathroom facilities in the old ornate building, which also has craft and food market events in summertime. The bandstand has the occasional activity or event going on through the summer. There is another court yard with centre fountain, but sadly I have noticed it has been unkept and is looking shabby of late, which is a shame. The roman columns are also a real gem at this park, especially pretty in autumn with bright red leaves cascading over the top. I really do love this park and often walk my dog there as it is peaceful and popular with dog walkers, having bowls of water dotted around the park to keep them hidrated during the walk. It's also a great park for families with children, having lovely walks, with lots of open space for a picnic, and a playground area that is well kept with all the usual park apparatus. On the down side, parking isn't great as you have to pay, and it isn't very big so can get full very quickly in summer, but there is free parking outside the upper gates if you're lucky enough to find a space! Also, I would say, this park isn't fully disability friendly, and it is important to note that it is steep on a hillside so may be tricky in parts. Saying that though, it is fairly accessible, with wide, well maintained pathways that give access to most areas if you can't use the steps, but for wheelchair users, I think you'd struggle and would definitely need a helping hand to fully enjoy this park. All in all, this park is definitely worth a visit. Peace and tranquility are assured.

Lovely garden, long as you dont mind a hill to walk up, as the whole of gardens is based on a hill. The cafè at top is well worth it!! From cream teas, jacket potatoes, other lunches and variteies of cakes. Me an daughter had tea and cake just a shame did not have time to stay for lunch. Staff were more than helpul and friendly. So will be back, also worth a pop in even if have to do a hospital visit.

Lovely quaint park some lovely little paved walking. Good carpark facilities great little cafe serving hot and cold drinks. A range of cakes, sandwiches and hot foods. Holds small food market events from time to time.

Went to park today. Beautiful day as you can see. Lovely tearoom and there was a craft Market but we arrived just a bit late really. But did see the amazing male voice choir. What a fantastic place and if I lived in Newport I would love to live near there.

Wonderful place to have day out or nice dog walk.park is very calm and quite and mind refreshing one. There is a nice cafeteria inside the park. Pay and display parking available ,accepts cards and cash. Toilet facility available. Nice place to bring your kids and family.Seperate kids play area is there. Realy amazing place filled with natures beauty.

This park is a slice of tranquility in the centre of Newport. I found it 3 years ago when I moved here and I've been visiting ever since. Its so beautiful to visit in the spring and summer with all the wonderful flowers and trees. The grounds are really well maintained and it is such a great place to walk your dog. Some of the levels of walking are quite steep so be mindful if you struggle with that. A wonderful cafe at the top entrance, serving drinks and food, seating indoors and outdoors. Really friendly staff. This place will always be one of my favourite.

It's absolutely fabulous. We had lunch here, and the food was freshly made. Also the staff are so friendly and helpful. Too wet for a walk around gardens, but the building to dine! Is magnificent. 👌

Lovely location for a few hours out,conveniently located minutes off M4 and well signed. Good cheap parking and lovely little visitor centre, shop and well stocked cafe, all very dog friendly. Shame more of the locks haven't been restored, much work still to do.

Great place to have a short or long walk with the family and dog. Parking was free today as the machine was all wrapped up but normally £1 for 4 hours. There seemed to be a couple of charging places for EVs. Walks are beside the old canal which is not full of water but is surrounded by woodland and birdsong. The cafe/museum and staff are very dog friendly. We all enjoyed a lovely ice-cream including Suki who had a home-made pupicicle!

Family friendly walks around the old canal. The reason for the four star rating is that the proximity to the M 4 makes it noisy. There are toilet facilities, a small shop and a cafe that serves hot food( pasties and bacon rolls) and hot and cold drinks.

Was a nice walk, peaceful, though not the best canal walk I have done but still enjoyed it! I have also been spoilt with BaNES and Somerset based canal walks! Lovely little stroll but sad to see the state of some of the locks.

Second hand book stall Clean and accessible toilets Duck food can be purchased for 50p each There's an area for children to sit and colour, play games etc in an area full of information and the history regarding the locks The lake is peaceful to sit around, plenty of benches available to sit down at and a few picnic benches The paths are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs and you can walk for many miles so on a dry day it's a wonderful place to visit

Went to the canal Centre for a walk and some food. Food was really reasonably priced and staff were friendly and food came out quickly. Parking was cheap at only 1 pound for 4 hours. Quite a steep walk in places but path flattens out every so often to have a breather.

Really enjoyed my visit, lovely place to walk enjoy the scenery and have refreshments at the cafe.

Lovely area to walk, dog friendly and great views down the valley. The locks are amazing feat of engineering from the 18th century !!! Some have been restored but of course money and volunteering has been in short supply last couple of years ! Great little cafe with lovely treats and good coffee, plus a little souvenir shop to help maintain the area. Well worth a visit.

Lovely place for a couple of hours walk around. Very friendly and dog friendly cafe treats and water provided. Reasonably priced and good food.plenty of disabled parking which is free with a blue badge. The locks, which are the reason you will be going after all, are in need of a little tlc, which is a shame because they would be very impressive. As it stands, they are very overgrown and in a very poor state even as a historical and non functional site.

Good pub grub but their own brewery's beer is the star, as is the lively but sensible atmosphere compared to the clubs/bars around it which are staggeringly loud meat markets. Great place.

Good venue, covid controls are very thorough and well managed. The beer selection from Tiny Rebel overall have slipped in my opinion over the last couple of years. Quite synthetic in taste and not like the TR of old. Average prices fiver ish per pint and food is excellent. Friendly staff.

Food was already finished at 9pm before I arrived, would be nice to have this on a sign somewhere. however the beer is excellent and had lots of different winners which I enjoyed!

Amazing experience! The food, atmosphere and staff are amazing, would definitely recommend you come here, the beef burger is so delicious its almost like pulled meat its so tender, the chicken wings were out of this world and the gravy cheese and chips (i could happily ask for seconds)

Popped in yesterday to watch wales v South Africa , loved the decor and service was sharp. I had the tiny Max burger and some boneless buffalo wings, which were amazing burger was quality and I was nice and full before the game. I was only drinking Diet Coke so can't comment on the beer but the look and some of the different names of ale looked awesome, will be back.

Super cute place. Friendly staff. Amazing buffalo sauce and proper fried pickles - even the ranch was good (I'm American so this is important). Loved seeing dogs there as well. Great selection of beers.

Just ordered a delivery from here. Firstly my 2 bottles of beer were missing. Second my food was late and cold. I ordered the seitan wings - gross! Rock hard & dripping with grease. Then the vegan burger - looked and tasted disgusting I couldn’t eat any of it and not even any beer to drown my sorrows. What a horrible experience.

Food is out of this world! Service is super friendly and quick, and it’s never too busy on Sunday which is great!

Had the vegan roast it was delicious. Staff were friendly and transparent about the food wait times. Will be back for more

Thought Tiny Rebel might be the same quality as Brewdog but they are poles apart! Visited on saturday lunchtime and the place needs a good clean to say the least. Had a paddle of tasters and a glass of wine. The tasters were vile and totally undrinkable (pineapple lager 🤮 stout with vanilla and coffee 🤮 and a partially drinkable one). Wine was equally horrible - overpriced and weak. Sadly not a good experience for us at all and a shame as we love our real ales and trying new things but did not enjoy the drinks or dirty seating at all.

Pretty quiet, not many people, so the place felt a little flat as a result. The music overpowered and conversation. Well laid out. Plenty of seating. Nice decor. The beer is as you'd expect from tiny rebel. Had food, typical offerings of burgers and fries with pizza etc. Had the bear fries and pizza fries along with chicken wings and onion rings. All ok, but nothing outstanding, however they are cheap, so definitely no complaints. Nice clean loos, and a nice lounge area downstairs

Great family place. Loads of animals (endless sheep!) lots of the animal were friendly and would come over so it's a wonderful place for kids that like to pet them. Cafe was really cheap - 2 full breakfasts with hot drinks was £13 which I thought was great. All staff we interacted with were very friendly. Play parks all looked like great fun too but my baby was too young to appreciate them!

Loved it, friendly staff. Gutted I couldn't bottle feed the lambs 😩.. Cows have big tongues and Emu's terrify me.. 😬 Absolutely loved feeding the animals, definitely going back. ❤️

Fantastic place to take the kids. You can get animals feed bag from the reception (costs 50p per bag). This is our first time to visit and we all really enjoy it. We had a discussion with Richard. He is very nice man and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are a lot benches to have a rest and lots of things for children to do. We are definitely going back.

What a farm, good range of animals for all the kids and big kids, my little girl loves the cow and they have a good range of cows. The staff where friendly and helpful, over all good day out there.

Fantastic farm with plenty of animals, some good soft play and an indoor play area as well. Make sure you wear wellies if it is raining or has been as it gets a bit muddy in places, but it is worth it. A wide range of animals to see as well. Now is a good time to go as you will see baby goats and lambs, and if you are lucky you may see them being born. I would have given it 5 stars, but the price was more than we expected, and that was without food and drink. £25 for 2 children and 2 adults was a little more than we were expecting.

Excellent farm park to bring children. There are a variety of animals, apart from cows, 🐐 goats, 🐑 sheep and horses there are Guinea pigs, peacocks, alpacas, emu, turtles, Highland cows, reindeer, turkeys and geese. There are play areas in almost every section. Washing stations in every area and a nice picnic area. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. There's a cafe on site with play area for under 4s. Would love to go again.

Welcoming, pleasant farm situated in a straightforward and easy to find location. Affordable entry fee with the option to purchase animal feed at 50p a bag. On select days, tractor trailer and pony rides are offered for around £2 per person which is also reasonable. Friendly, hard working staff and a wide variation of animals to see, all well cared for and looked after. Plenty of picnic areas both indoor and outdoor as well as play areas for all ages. Clean toilet facilities, disabled access and suitable for pushchairs/prams. Cafe on site with hot meals and refreshments on offer for okay prices but we took our own picnic so didn't get to sample. Plenty of parking, ample room and space for children to run around and burn off energy and there are also fishing lakes on site. Great place to visit for a morning/afternoon out with the kids.

Always a variety of activities for my 3 and 6 year old grandchildren to enjoy no matter what the weather is. The animals are well looked after and the children always enjoy looking at them and feeding them. It has all of the usual farm animals plus peacocks, guinea pigs and alpacas. It is very god value for money and the staff are welcoming and helpful.

Attended a Wellbeing Event being run by Diabetes UK as a stall holder. Beautiful venue, lovely toilets. Cafe - I would recommend the 3 bean chilli jacket potato. It was outstanding

Went to see the Alice in wonderland adventure and the tiger that went to tea although the staff were amazing and friendly I thought for what was there the tickets were a little expensive but a lovely idea.

Watched the Robin Hood Pantomime this year with my family. It was a fantastic experience, entry was quick and easy. Booking had been very simple and the online tickets were easy to access. The seating was very good and more room than a lot of similar sized theatres. Would definitely go back again.

Lovely place and the venue was just amazing seen Lulu and was brilliant and the staff was so helpful and kind with my daughter they went and got her a large poster as there was no merchandise on sale.

Really lovely theatre, went to see the cirque the greatest show and it was amazing. Had great seats, lovely and clean, plus it was a lovely view of the river whilst enjoying a drink from one of the bars.

I take my Granddaughter here for Dance Tots on a Tuesday morning. Lucy is absolutely brilliant. My granddaughter gains a little more confidence with every visit.

Just watched Beauty and the Beast at The Riverfront. Superb performance by the cast, the wife, children, and grandchildren were all amazed at the show. And what a show, if you can get to see this, you will not be disappointed.

Took the grandchildren to see the Pantomime. They loved it. We all enjoyed it. It was a last-minute booking, but our seats were great. Wouldn't hesitate to go again.

A lovely, small, laid back theatre providing a wide selection of entertainment for all ages. Have been to see talks, shows and a pantomime here and each visit has been fantastic. So lucky to have a place lime this in Newport and would highly recommend a visit.

The Riverfront is staffed with people who are focused on looking after customers. The cinema is economically priced, but, the chairs are not very comfortable when sitting for over two hours. The cafe serves excellent Starbucks coffee.

Watched a Body Painting Expo that showed the talent of Coleg Gwent. The theatre was so comfortable and seemed like all the seats had a good view. It was a good size as well, not too big. Will go again even though I don't live in the area.

Attend every year for the pantomime, this year was beauty and the beast. Fantastic performance, the writing gets better every year. Cinema for the family and other events are always good fun. Helpful staff and great venue.

Great venue for shows. Seen a lot of tribute acts here and enjoyed them all. Staff very friendly. Box office staff really helpful. Will be back again in April.

Really excellent free museum. Lots to see. We didn't have very long but could have stayed a lot longer. The puppet diorama of the chartist uprising is definitely worth a £1 too.

Great couple of hours out, good for all ages. They even have a sheet that children can fill out, which encourages children to really engage in the educational side of the trip.

A fantastic free museum! I could have spent a few hours in here if i’d had more time. Highly recommended if you’re interested in studio pottery or ceramics as the gallery showcased a huge array, from Wally Keeler to coronation mugs. A visit while in Newport is a must!

A hidden gem in Newport city centre! Art gallery on the top floor (lift available) is a curious eclectic mix of displays including permanent ones devoted to all things ‘tea’ and temporary exhibits from local artists - when we visited it was ‘ how green is my valley’ by Ron McCormick. The museum on Level 1 is accessed through the library and once again contains an eclectic mix of fascinating artefacts from Welsh history including interactive displays, and mosaics. There’s a kids activity trail to keep them busy too! Food and drink is limited to vending machines and seating area on top floor.

A lovely little museum and gallery, plenty to see. Friendly and helpful staff. There is a gift shop and refreshments available in the museum cafe. Museum entry is free, so you can’t really complain, not that there’s anything to complain about anyway. I was very satisfied with my visit there. The gift shop and cafe prices are very reasonable and the level of service was great.

Absolutely worth a visit if you haven't been before. Wonderful idea for school holidays, especially as it is free.

I previously gave a critical review due to the contracted opening times, I'm over that now. And, having finally visited the museum I can say that it is a genuinely excellent place to visit. I had no idea I was living on such a hotbed of historical activity! The presentation, access, and general atmosphere make this one of the best museums in the south west of England and south of Wales!

Lots of eating places here. Sadly Cineworld has shut which was disappointing...and there is a Next and New Look and River Island. The University campus is on the other side of the road. However. not sure where all the customers are meant to be coming from...hardly the demographic as far as I could see...as usual the KFC is shocking in terms of service standards and hygiene...and of course there is the incredibly run down shopping centre adjoining it..and no public toilets to be seen...and very weird access to ridiculous steps and inadequate lifts...would like to come back in couple of years to see what state it is all in....

Diserves higher rating, but several shops gone. Still worth going as the restaurant area is brilliant. Plenty of parking. Makes a nice day out as a walk along the river front near by an added bonus with it's history.

A very modern town centre shopping centre with a variety of different shops, bowling alley and a restaurant/cafe quarter. The shopping centre is also a convenient access point to the city's bus station. On our most recent visit we decided to park in the shopping centre car park. The car park was quite busy but we quickly found a parking space. Parking fees are reasonable for a city centre car park but you might be able to find cheaper parking at other sites. There were a several disabled parking spaces around the outside of the car park providing easy access to the lifts and stairs up to the shopping area.

Many nice restaurants there ! And M & S foods haul & Saintsuberry & Costa ,KFC , Prezzo, Wagamama ,TGI Friday ,so on. The Next store had great selections of men's clothings at wonderful prices ! I found / bought so many cure made in U.K.birthday cards !! 4 for 3 ( price of 3 of equivalent price cards !! ) I loved the Costa upstairs there !! Very convenient w/ toilets !

Excellent place, easy parking and lots of good shops. It is a good idea to have a walk close to the river Usk.

Nice place, but not sure where to go, or what was there.. unlike other shopping places this has no map. We haven't lived in that area for 20+ years so alot has changed, and outsiders don't always want to wonder around, they want to know whats available. Just a thought, so good shops if you want clothes, and we popped into Holland and Barrett, always good for healthy food suppliments.

Disjointed area. Since the demise of Debenhams and other shops nearby, also including a coupleof restaurants on ground floor. If it rains it's undercover at least. Shame it promised a lot when it opened. Covid didn't help. 😒

More shops are starting to move in here but still closures the retraunt sector is very nice with landscaped views i have put the pictures i took here while in the area i walked through the centre to the te developed indoor market i thought it was ok as many people eating in the modernised well laid out market place i enjoyed my visit as i went to sèe a show at the amazing riverfront theatre worth a visit for sure

It's a pity some of the shops are vacant. Otherwise, I would would of gave it a 5 star rating. However, I will give the car park a 5 star rating for the amount of disabled parking spaces, and they are quite wide.

Good selection of shops. HOWEVER saw a lot of antisocial behaviour such as someone pulling a knife on someone, and kids fleeing other kids. No wonder people go to Cardiff, Cwmbrân, and Bristol.

I like the restaurants but they need to keep stores from closing by offering competitive rates. If all that is left are painted boards there will be a knock on impact to those that remain and they'll all close. Please, keep this alive or we'll have a ghost town. UPDATE...Oh come on Talisker Corporation please! Empty stores won't earn you any rent and incidental foot traffic is lost for others. Debenhams has gone, the Cinema vacated as are so many other units now. Newport Centre needs quality shops and restaurants, not empty comic stores and 99p stores - please fill with prime stores. Reduce the rates and keep stores, at least until there is an over demand for units. Look how depressing it looks boarded up.😢

I loved how it is set out and the shops and eateries. However, the rubbish that was flying around there was disgusting. It needs to be better looked after

Multiple choices of shops and restaurants. Moreover, the shopping centre is clean and tidy, with good atmosphere. Hopefully, more stores will open at Friars Walk. By the way, Friars walks lights look amazing at night. It truly stands out in Newport. I find with the shopping centre now, is the fact that there are still very old areas and run down areas around it. I think it all needs to be rectified and sorted. It would be lovely to see it all end up modernised.

Facilities a bit dated, seating small and uncomfortable. Lack of local parking resulted in parking some distance from the ground in a side street. Plus side good efforts made to encourage and facilitate youngsters in the ground

Sweet stool before the match in the tent. Club Spytty for the kids & a chance to meet some of the players before the match for photos & autographs. No outside food or drink to be taken in. Disabled access & toilets.

Awesome day out with family and friends in the hospitality care of a friend at the club. Food was amazing and the win for the dragons was even better.

Compact ground with open stands behind the goals. Decent facilities (bar food, toilets) available to away fans - and friendly stewards. If the new (Bisley) stand is replicated then it will increase capacity and overall look of the place. A short walk over the footbridge to the city centre, where you can find all the normal chain eateries (Las Iguanas, Nandos, Zizzi etc) in the Kingsway Shopping centre as well as plenty of parking.

Not a bad ground for a league 2 football club. Enjoyed watching a game here end of last season doing a bit of groundhopping. Better than a handful of L2 grounds out there. Good food and bar in the away area. Couple of really nice stands. Was also really impressed with the quality of the pitch. Also very baffled by the choir in the home end!! Was also very impressed with the Thatchers Cider adverts in the ground being in South Wales and not Somerset!

Great atmosphere with helpful stewards. This old-skool stadium is worth a visit. The last minute equaliser, on the last game of the season, to save the game made it even more enjoyable. 😉 🔴 ⚪️ 🚂

Visited to support my 10 year old daughter in a girl's football tournament. Venue was very clean, organised and helpful staff. Tournament held during a school day so all food facilities were closed.

Came as an Eastleigh Fan for the cup. Nice stadium with good facilities. I must highlight your stewards as a credit to the club. We had a good laugh with them whilst at the same time we knew they were taking their job seriously.

Very old school ground, very little cover, toilets miles away... But honestly not the worst ground I've ever been too (get there early though because the lines are massive as there's only 1 way in for away fans! Food is really nice, plenty of drinks on offer... A decent little away day, right next to the River Usk as well, amazing view walking across the bridge!

Have been to two concerts here with family recently, the acoustics were fantastic and the concerts were great value for money. It really is a beautiful, welcoming cathedral and nice to attend a service, light a candle to remember loved ones or just reflect on life. Highly recommend a visit.

Attended a London Film Orchestra concert here. I'd never been to the Cathedral before and as a disabled person I'm always a bit apprehensive with new places but I needn't have worried. On arrival at the queue I was immediately escorted to the accessible entrance after being asked if I'd wanted to go to the bar or toilet before going in. Everyone was really helpful and attentive. The concert was amazing and I had a fantastic evening.

Looked great from the outside, couldn’t get in as it was closed but wasn’t a problem. The walk up and around was worth the hill climb.

Wow 5th century cathedral one of the first apostles churches in the UK Wales. Beautifully placed on the top of the hill in Newport city. The new church integrated with the old church . The old arch and the superb preserved columns in a Corinthian style sounds throughout the centuries kirie eleison, Amen. In their touch one can feel the past, thousands of services and liturgies(ΘΕΊΑ ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΙΑ), throughout the centuries brings the past in front of you in quietness. Really worth visiting when you stop at the Newport town. Past and present and still more into the future.

Really lovely little cathedral. My husband carried our pushchair up the stairs as we didn't realise there is an easier way with no stairs round the other side. There is parking right outside too.

St Woolos Cathedral has been a site of worship since the early 6th century. According to legend, the soldier-prince Gwynllyw was converted to Christianity when he was told in a dream to search for a white ox with a black spot on its forehead and, when he found it, to build a church as an act of penitence. Gwynllyw’s church, founded on Stow Hill, was almost certainly made of mud and wattle and has therefore been lost. The modern church dates back to the Norman period including the arched entrance and nave, constructed 1140-1160. The present building consists of a 12th century Norman church enclosed within a later mediaeval structure, restored in Victorian times and with a recent east end extension. In 1921 the diocese of Monmouth was created and the church was designated a cathedral and the east end was enlarged in 1960.

Lovely simplicity of decor, good liturgy and a wonderful choir. The organist would benefit from playing for something other than funerals. The protracted pauses between verses were a sad hindrance which undermined an otherwise gracious musicianship

Beautiful building, just a shame about the exterior looking old and worn out. The scaffolding does it no justice, although understandably necessary for repairs.. The choir sound amazing and the director of music does a fantastic job. Well worth a visit even if its just to listen to the choir!!

Tiny, but the Norman parts are well maintained. The modern area by the main altar looks out of place at first but it grows on you

Not too much to see yet but the introduction talk was very informative. We were able to see some of the preserved beams and planks. Gift shop with many interesting items available..

Visited today following a quick Google for things to do locally due to sporadic weather. Safe to say this exhibition was really worth visiting, as it combined both highly interesting artifacts and displays relating to the vessel. But also information delivered by a knowledgable and enthusiastic guide. My advice to anyone with an interest in this subject is to visit now while you can still experience the artifacts up close before they go off for exhibition. As you are truly surrounded by the very timbers found in the river which are now preserved.

We honestly thought our visit would be 15 minutes but over a hour later we were still there thanks to the wonderful, informative guide Lionel who was so knowledgable and interesting that we left feeling very pleased with gaining a greater insight into the history of the Newport Medieval ship. So many thanks Lionel! Please try to buy a book or give a donation if you can as they deserve it. Highly recommend for all ages!

Brilliant place to visit . Very educational. Staff all so helpful and welcoming. Many thanks especially to Bob Evans and Charles Ferris who were excellent tour guides. We had such an interesting time visiting Newport's medieval ship. We were taken on a guided tour by a knowledgeable gentleman who was more than happy to answer any questions we had. To see the timbers of the ship in person was fantastic. I hope we can visit again once it has been rebuilt. I would recommend a visit to anyone who is interested in history or ships.

Open day was amazing! An awesome insight into the history of an historical gem that NCC tried and failed to cover up. Rats, sinking ship, ironic really. 2002 and flat packed to this day. Shameful. It may not be the Mary Rose but its as good as! More open days and charge a £ pp. Why the Mayor was there I haven't a scooby! Anyhoo, Newport Medieval Ship Appreciation Society should be a done thing.

Very interesting to see. Open day with lots of other things to see & do but very busy. Great entertainment for the kids! There seemed to be traffic chaos as cars were parked badly on the roads around. Will definitely go again but not on an open day!

ABSOLUTELY incredible! A true national treasure, a ship hull found in Newpor dating to 1400's, such an interesting visit. I highly recommend.

Very interesting historical exhibition for Newport. Our guide Kate was extremely friendly and took us through the history of the ship itself and the excavation process.
