Haven't been here for years! Walked round the town and then went to the abbey. We thought we'd be able to have lunch but something was happening and we couldn't so got a cake and a coffee instead. Cafe is lovely and to the side of the entrance (loos downstairs) after a drink we had a look round the cathedral itself. There was a school practising for a carol concert but we could still wander round. Enjoyed the visit. Great wall art and a lovely tomb. Looking at the rose window really makes you understand how big it is. We went at Christmas time, the Nativity scene wouldn't be there all year but was good to see. There's a shop in the foyer.

A dream come true for me, to have the privilege to be able to actually visit this special house,. I was given the most amazing tour and the explanation to all my many questions explained so professionally and kindly. Being disabled I was amazed to be shown a special lift that the gentleman guide assisted me to use. This made my experience a very easy mobility transfer. Me sincere thank's to Neville my guide. Free entry, although donations suggested or donation boxes in every little corner, there is also a tour - not sure how often, but on a Sunday it was twice during mid afternoon, but didn't have time to take part it - it was stated that it runs about 1hour. Did not know much about it beforehand, were visiting in neighbouring town, but didn't expected to find such a big church in a small village/town - well, its a cathedral*. Beautiful architecture and floors, decorations, few/some signs to explain what you're seeing. If in the area, think it is worth a visit, nearby is a large park and a pub in-between, if interested in a walk.

Lovely cathedral, very big and full of things to see and learn. The children and I really enjoyed spending some time in there. Bonus there was the band rehearsing and we had a free show!

A beautiful place to visit and learn historical stories from the past. Being there during a school day, I could observe how the pupils/ children are introduced to the historical past, through teaching methods that involve storytelling and small skits in which the pupils are actors in the scenes from the past. The place is loaded with a lot of history and hope. I also had a delicious hot chocolate at the cafe inside the location!

I love the history and story of St Albans, particularly as it is named in honour of the first British martyr and saint. The St Albans cathedral is very impressive and I loved visiting it. There are numerous rooms and areas of the cathedral to explore and appreciate. I noticed they have done well to be wheel chair friendly in each area that is usually accessed by steps. There is a little Cafe if you're in need of a tank refill before exploring more. It was my first experience tasting a lemon drizzle cake, which looked like nothing special, but was absolutely divine! Although we didn't attend one of the guided tours, I expect it would have been well worth it (but we had a toddler and newborn with us, so negated that ability). Give yourself a good couple of hours to explore, appreciate, and enjoy.

One of the oldest churches in Britain! A stunning place to spend quality time in St Albans. There’s a cafe and a gift shop inside. It’s pretty marvellous to see how well kept this place is, kudos to the people who take care of it and donate for its upkeep. The architecture is marvellous. There’s a stunning park nearby and a lake. It’s close to city center so you can find tons of places to eat and hangout. Definitely recommend.

Very impressive cathedral matched by the beautiful grounds outside.Charming staff inside giving helpful information .It is a place of worship which embraces you with open arms .The choral music enhanced our visit. We were permitted to take our dog inside to our amazement. No entry fee but it is recommended to put a little donation towards the upkeep I would highly recommend a visit.

Simply love this Cathedral... came here 2 years ago and wanted to return again... beautiful high ceilings and because it is October, we saw and chatted to " the flower ladies ", who were preparing for the Harvest service at the weekend.... The flower displays were simply stunning... so beautiful and artistic.. We saw the beautiful wooden carvings of the choir stalls and the Bishops wooden chair.. beautiful piece of work... lovely gift shop, although a little bit expensive and cafe too...... The Cathedral is FREE to enter, but to keep up the finances, donations are welcome... could spend hours in here.... well worth a visit.

Such a beautiful church. I love the 'Bayeux' type tapestry of the beginnings of the building of the Cathedral over 100's of years. Great history! A very friendly and relaxed place. Very welcoming to visitors and local folk. And a super café with keen and helpful staff.

This cathedral has an unmatched history. The visitors are received in a nicely designed welcome centre. Entrance is free although donations are encouraged. There is so much to see, one should not rush. There are a few signs only to explain various features, some more would be great for those who are unable to join one of the guided tours. Everything from the huge rooms to the small details are worth studying.

One of the best churches I have ever visited in the UK. Lots of original wall paintings and carvings from the middle ages. No admission fee, donation is welcome. Guides are on site, they are very helpful and prepared. Do not forget to find the mask wearing COVID-time, stone statue carving on one of the shrines.

The Cathedral is well presented with access to most of the building,with very informative comments at relevant areas. Great way to see historical sites free admission but do ask for donations which I feel is more than fair.

Great cathedral in the centre of this wonderful city, there are guides that take you on a tour roughly an hour in length. Check times of the tours with the help desk manned by friendly staff. Great sounding organ from 1962 that was recently refurbished. They have concerts in the cathedral on various dates during the year, please check St Albans Cathedral website. The usual services during the week and weekends taking place in the mornings, midday and early evening. Great cafe serving lunch, cakes and tea or coffee, and a wonderful shop for gifts or to treat yourself. I adore this Cathedral and always go there whenever I am in St Albans. Please visit this wonderful Cathedral and support it by giving some of your loose change or donate whatever amount with a contactless card. Light a candle or write a message on a card and post it on the board, maybe it will be read out at a service. Go to a service to experience the spiritual wellbeing and sing a few songs with the congregation.

A very lovely cathedral which mesmerising stained glass windows, skyscraper high ceilings and detailed carvings. Lots of useful information boards scattered around which help you to learn more about this grand cathedral. Lots of choices in the gist shop and a nice looking cafe. I was lucky enough to enter when their choir were singing and they sounded marvelous. I would go there again and you should to.

A lovely place to visit. An extraordinary building with a 1000 years history. We even witnessed a coral concert. Beautiful architecture, interactive activities, panels explaining the history, loads of volunteers to help and tours available for free, donations welcome. At the end of visit you can have a lovely meal in the church caffe looking at the park nearby. A great experience.

St. Albans is a beautiful cathedral with long history, that is worth a 20-30 minute wander through. There are informative signs throughout showing key highlights of the cathedral, such as the medieval mosaics, doors, and ceilings, as well as a timeline of key events just before the entrance. It is free to visit, though donations are appreciated. Facility-wise, they have a very nice cafe, clean toilets, and a gift shop.

Visited St Albans Cathedral on Bank Holiday Easter Monday, what a beautiful place it is. You are free to walk around the Cathedral and grounds, there is no charge (although donations are encouraged understandably). Even if you are not religious, to be in this space is incredibly moving, the architecture and detail are astounding. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed our visit, albeit short, here. Wonderful architecture and decor. Very welcoming staff in the entrance shop & café. There is no charge to visit, but they do suggest a donation. We visited on the day Hertfordshire University graduation ceremonies were in full swing, so the place was heaving with everyone in their finery - it added to the atmosphere rather than spoil the occasion, even if some slight restrictions were , necessarily, in place for a period. The website has a virtual to check out before you go.

Beautiful cathedral with historic background extremely well presented. Definitely worth visiting when in St Albans. Probably the highlight of the visit to the town. Strongly recommend.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. I could have stayed at the cathedral for hours. It’s beautiful, it has history, and it’s a must-see (IMHO). There was a tour group we tagged along with and the tour guide ended up giving us a quick recap of the first half. We appreciated that!

Firstly, I have to thank Laurie, our guide for bringing this Holy place to life, he was very knowledgeable and personable. I loved the way that the wall murals were illuminated to show what they (probably) looked like. Beautiful altar screen and ceilings. Well worth a visit.

Can this place get a lesser review. One of the best places to visit in UK with lots to do. Consider for a day trip out of london Lots of parking option although paid but not too expensive. Can pay by app, card or cash. Toilets readily available Accessible Walk through the park and enjoy nature. Cathedral itself was the crown jewel- The main altar- you actually need to sit down and take it all in. I won’t post any pictures as I don’t feel they would do justice to the beauty of the place. The peace despite the footfall is astounding . Free guided tours with volunteers almost every hour . Delve into the history and marvel at the architecture. Lovely cafe for some cake and tea. Souvenir shop with some notebooks for the little ones. And like the most beautiful things in life, it’s free!

Great for most things you'd want of a park and pretty big. The main areas have all the usual family stuff and ice creams etc, and there are some beautiful nature areas around the edges beyond the bits of roman wall. There are little valleys/dells of woodland with bluebells etc, and lots of interesting geology so brilliant if you like archeology and fossils etc. There are toilets at the museum car park but that one gets very busy on Saturdays, so the Westminster leisure centre is a safer bet especially if you are meeting friends. Overall a great place, but I've never liked the very man made lake/pond which is shallow and usually filthy! Happily though, I read on a sign that they are looking to make it more natural, so that will improve it greatly! There are some bits of chalk stream around it that are much nicer, and I hadn't really explored much of til recently, lovely for a doggy dip or paddle. Chalk streams are also quite a rare habitat, so you can learn a bit about wildlife too, and hopefully the lake improvements will help to preserve it.

Lovely park with lots of space for picnics and Waterpark for children. We measured the trunk of an oak tree (3,86m) in the park,just for fun and it seems the tree might be 491 years old.

A wonderful park with great Roman history (and named after the Roman City where it stands). It is a wonderful place if just wanting to stroll through, but also has several good signs highlighting the Roman (now ruins) city walls and gates. It was slightly flooded when we were there but no impacts to the main paths.

Lovely big park with a nice trail for a walk or jog, playing football, and enjoying the greenery. The Cathedral can be seen from here and there's a lovely lake. There's a café on site offering hot and cold food and drinks. It was nice seeing the hypocaust and the Roman Wall. There is a children's playground and on other side there are various outdoor exercise equipment.

This park has an amazing view of St. Albans Cathedral. It is perfect for a good walk, also there are areas for football and cricket. The park also has two ancient roman ruins, London wall and an impressive roman mosaic which unfortunately is hard to see because is located inside an enclosed structure.

When visiting St.Albans the Cathedral never shines away from dominating the skyline. On a nice day you can always capture excellent views of the park, lake and Cathedral and you can always stop and have refreshments in the many venues nearby.

It is a park that can come and walk every day. beautiful nature the birds that fly and foraging freely, they are beautiful and pleasing to look at.

What a lovely park, with roman ruins, the oldest site of Christian worship in England (St. Albans Cathedral), the old roman theatre and walls, and a lovely lake. Made for a lovely day out from London and just 25 minutes from Farringdon Station.

Attractive large park providing an open expanse of green space a short walk from the city centre of St Albans. The tree lined lake and network of footpaths make it ideal for a walk, but there's also an abundance of history in the area, with sections of Roman wall situated around the park, a Roman mosaic, and a museum. Some of the city's best views of the cathedral can be enjoyed from the park. The historic pub and cascading mill race nearby are also worth a look while visiting. Facilities include a model boating lake, play area, café and toilets, though the toilets were closed at the time of my visit in early 2024 due to flooding by the lake.

Great museum and amphitheatre. Wonderful park. Took my grandchildren (10 + 8) and they loved it. Nice play area. Little cafe. The only downside is parking - not enough. We had timed tickets for the museum and were panicking! The main car park was full with people waiting - we don't know the area and had to find an alternative place to park. Roads are permit holders only. Really difficult, but we found a little car park fortunately.

We went to the Comedy festival. A superb evening. A wonderful selection of fast food. Curry, burgers, chips etc, So good. Beer, cider, g&t. The show wad so funny. My wife and I were in stitches.

Beautiful welkept hilly park in the heart of St Albans, Hertfordshire. It has a lovely lake with ducks, swans 🦢 and even sea gulls! There's plenty of benches to sit down on and take in the glorious views of Verulamium Park. You will find an onsite cafe, a museum and children's splash park play area. Perfect place to walk the dog and unwind in the fresh air. Very relaxing with plenty of space for everybody to enjoy. I would recommend Verulamium Park to everyone! 😀

Beautiful park. It has many different things, such as a playground, Minigolf, an outdoor gym, netball court and huge open fields, perfect for picnics.

It was really busy however we found a parking space within 10 minutes Historical with lots of information regarding the park. Really clean, tidy and well kept. Great afternoon out

Absolutely beautiful park on the edge of St Alban's city centre. At around 100 acres in size it's got plenty of room for everyone. On my visit it was a nice day and people were having picnics and lots of dog walkers, but still tons of space for everyone. It's the site of an old Roman town of which it's got its namesake, and some of the walls still stand, so as a history buff I had to spend some time here.

Beautiful big park, lots of greenery, has a large kids playing area, a lake with swans and geese, cafes, football areas, historical roman ruins to walk around, parking is fairly priced. A lovely park for a family day out. Highly recommend!

200 acre grounds with a park restaurant and rich Roman history. One can still see the Roman walls and mosaic. It's close to the old pub, museum and cathedral making it a complete well spent day.

A very nice park, it has a big playground with a trampoline, mini golf and beach ball nets, huge open space, lakes with ducks and goose. Parking was fairly priced we paid 1.65 on a Sunday. Highly recommended family day out.

My friends little girl absolutely worships Peter Rabbit, so we decided to visit here for the day so Ava could live her best life with the love of her life! Even though the farm is definitely geared towards little people, my friend and I had just as much fun as Ava did. There’s so much to see and do, that it’s definitely worth getting here early and spending the whole day enjoying the various available activities. We all loved meeting and feeding the animals. Personally I’m a huge fan of small farms; it’s a great environment to introduce children to animals, and cultivate a lifelong love and respect for our furry friends. You could tell the animals were well cared for, and you could see the love staff had for them. The indoor play barn was a lot of fun, but Peter Rabbit’s Adventure Playground was definitely the winner in terms of play area. Highlight of the day was Ava getting to meet her beloved Peter Rabbit! My personal highlight (apart from feeding the animals) was a much appreciated caramel latte! Food was okay, not fantastic, but it did the trick. Loved visiting the gift shop too - lots of lovely paraphernalia to purchase. Kudos to all the staff here who work so hard to ensure the children have a magical day to remember.

Great day out, suggest arriving for opening as it truly is a whole day out. Worth every penny, as we arrived at 11am and still didn't cover everything before closing. Stage shows and character meet and greets are fun and engaging. We will be back again for sure. Softplay and little village are great to escape the sun or rain for an hour or so.

Plenty for young children to do, they can have fun feeding the farm animals or petting the smaller animals. Rides for little ones, tractor ride. Cafe and soft play area. If the sun was out would have been even better.

I can say there is the best activity farm in UK. We went to there with my son’s classmate family and have been there all day. Nice playgrounds, beautiful soft play area. We just doesn’t like cafe. All food was cold and not delicious. Don’t forget to ride the train

Took my daughter and son there on a school trip. We had so much fun. There are loads of activities to do both indoor and outdoor. There is plenty to choose from. You find different animals that the kids can enjoy petting and feeding, a tractor ride and other different rides. There is plenty of space to sit and eat and their toilets are clean.

This place was incredible and so much fun for the kids. The park is what they fell in love with the most (that and they got to hold a Guinea pig. I just wish it was more affordable. A family of 4 cost us £100. Not something I could do often.

Visiting Willow farm with your family is an absolute blast! It's such a gorgeous farm with loads of fun things to do. From the little playground to the massive sandpit, bouncy castles, and trampolines, there's something for everyone here. Your kids will love the huge area where they can ride diggers and play to their hearts' content. And if that's not enough, the soft play area is sure to be a hit with your little ones, complete with a cafeteria where you can grab a bite to eat and relax with your family. My son had a fantastic time, and I'm sure your kids will too! Don't forget to check out the funfair area where the children can enjoy some exciting rides. This farm is a must-visit for families with kids. Keep the great work up!

Where do I start. This place had everything my boy could dream of, we came here thinking it looks a cool farm and could pet some animals. Was we wrong this place has it all. It's a good day out with kids. Plenty of seating tables. Beautiful green farms and park. A tractor ride is a real attraction for the kids. Lot of activities for the kids

The best santa experience ever! There is a lot to keep you and your kids entertained whilst you are waiting to see santa. Mrs Claus welcomed us in and offered to take a photo with my daughter, which was lovely. The elves were dancing around and throwing pretend snow around. Whilst this was lovely, I saw some of the flakes went into the kids' eyes, and the parents had to help them out. There's lots of decorations like carriage, sleigh, and Christmas trees to see as you're waiting and take lovely photos with your kids. Once we got to Santa, my daughter really enjoyed her time chatting to him. She went to the toy shop and excitedly chose her gift. We purchased some lovely photos. The gingerbread man and teddy bear workshop were fantastic. My daughter really loved making her teddy bear who she has not let go of since she got it, and she really enjoyed decorating her gingerbread and eating it! She enjoyed the rides outside. I will definitely be coming back next year and definitely recommend this to other parents, too! I would definitely go early as the wait time tonsee Santa is nearly 2 hours and so you are not rushing around afterwards to get the other activities done!

Came here for the Santa/Christmas event and it was fantastic. As well as visiting Santa and getting a gift, the littleuns had the opportunity to decorate gingerbread, make a gift sleigh and build their own Christmas or Peter Rabbit soft toy. The grotto itself was decorated to a top class level and the staff were very engaging and friendly. All in all, a great experience.

Fantastic day out for little ones. There's lots to do outside and inside which is good in case the weather is bad. A good balance of activities, rides, shows as well as animals to pet and feed (less about the animals and more about activities however). Animal feed is very well priced at a £1 and 2 cafes have sufficient food/drink/coffee at reasonable prices - not too high as expected at these places. Ticket price includes access to all activities and rides including tractor ride so no hidden costs once you're there. Soft play inside one of the cafes and can get extremely busy especially at lunch time - I'd say go early. I went a few times before deciding to get an annual pass and think it's an excellent place. They always keep things interesting by changing shows, putting on different events such as maize maze, potato/pumpkin picking, foam party, different music/songs on tractor, dinosaur dig, egg hunt etc. Plenty of places for picnics with benches with cover too. Staff are very good at making sure parents/children stick to the rules. Nothing worse than having much older kids join the younger (under 2s) soft play or bouncy castle or bouncy pillows when you have a small toddler/baby which could be knocked over. Staff are always friendly and work hard to keep the place clean and tidy. I'd say more suited to younger children maybe 1-6 but certainly fun for all the family.

Shame to start with a negative, but the entry to the site WITH a pre purchased ticket was very slow! We took 30-40mins to get our wristband and get through. However once inside the variety of activities was superb! Site was very clean throughout. Staff were friendly. The shows were great both my 4 and 9yr loved. Piggy race was hilarious. Play areas were varied and wide spread. Craft tent was a hit! We didn't get time to visit everything and had a thoroughly enjoyable 4.5 hours! We will need to visit again!

It is a lovely farm. Facilities is good enough, good for family with kids. Toilet is clean and warm. The restaurant doesn’t open when we visited, but provides microwave to heat the foods for kids.

Best place to take the family for a day trip. We pre booked the Christmas event which had, shows, movies, arts crafts, santa, that's without the usual animals and adventure playgrounds. Well worth booking at least once for your children.

This place was amazing and such great value. See photo for entrance prices. It comprises of three parts to the visit. The first is the museum, there are so many artifacts to see. The mosaics and small findings are in such good condition. The next part is the building with the mosaic in situ. Then there is the amphitheatre. The entrance ticket gets you into all of them. I'll definitely be returning.

Small but very nice museum with a great selection of Roman artifacts, (you could probably spend a good hour or 2 looking around, all very interesting, plus there's the hypercaust and open air Roman theatre nearby as well) All very nicely displayed, especially the mosaics, but museum entry was slightly pricey considering we also had to pay to park the car and open air theatre wasn't included, although entry reduced if combined ticket purchased, but I thought the museum shop was a bit of a let down, very little in it really and what was for sale there was very expensive or very overpriced. Did enjoy museum though

Enjoyed our visit to the Verulamium Museum St Albans. There's a pay and display car park opposite the museum and so much to explore nearby. The old theatre ruins are a short walk away and the Verulamium Park is situated opposite with a wildlife attraction on site and a nice café with plenty of benches and seating arrangements.

Adults are now £8 (but only £6 if you book it online on their website) as a history buff, this really was a museum I’ve been looking forward to. They have displays of original artifacts ,skeletons, and some of the most stunning original mosaics in Europe. It’s extremely detailed, educational, and fabulously catalogued; including drawers, that you can personally roll out and see things that are not set up on the countertop. The videos are informative and I learn things that I didn’t already know; which is awesome. I actually learned a lot in there. What I was looking forward to seeing is the fashion of the women; the statues ,the art , the clay. I really appreciated seeing a lot of things like fabrics pins and needles and brooches and jewelry. One of my favorite parts is the coin 🪙 collection! It’s very impressive and well presented. The wall art that the ancients did were impressive with aesthetics . The lead coffin ⚰️ , is one of the finest specimens of its kind in the world. Some truly original stuff to see here that you will never see in the rest of the world.! And BTW, it’s an award winning museum. In a beautiful surroundings of flowering trees, gardens, and a gorgeous ancient park land.

It was a lovely park to visit on a weekend, especially if you have a dog. You can also venture through the park and into the small town centre too. Lovely weekend street markets are going on, and I now buy my coffee beans from one of the market stands there, too.

Good place to learn about the history of Verulamium. Exhibits from as old as 2000 years are preserved here with utmost care for everyone to experience.

I bought a joint ticket to also see the Roman theatre around the corner also so £9 each altogether. We had the museum practically to ourselves when we went on a Monday. Beautiful examples from the former house and village. The mosaics beautifully displayed and preserved.

It is an amazing experience for immersing in Roman Britain because the museum is showing you aspects of every detail of everyday life in Verulamium, the ancient name of St. Albans. Do not miss the drawers under the showcases if you want to have a closer look to some artifacts.

I went with my daughter and 8 year old grandson as he's been studying the Romans at school. It is easy to find and parking is good. There are lots of very interesting exhibits from coins to mosaics and skeletons. It is very interactive and there is something interesting to do for children from 2- 92 (drawing, coin rubbing, try making a mosaic and many other things). It was half term so I suspect there was even more stuff than usual. There were only a couple of members of staff around but they very engaged and knowledgeable again with all age groups. Once you've looked around inside, it is worth visiting the Roman theatre and new excavations which are outside and just across the road. A very well thought out and interesting museum and tickets are a very affordable. The toilets outside were a bit basic and actually one was quite dirty, but that's more down to how customers behave than the museum. Well worth a visit. Plenty of places, benches etc outside to have a picnic too.

Fascinating insight into the Roman world literally under our feet. Great for adults and children alike. Some amazing items on display. Definitely worth a visit. Also, the Roman theatre was really interesting.

We attended here for a school trip and it was surprisingly interesting. We learned about the origins of St Alban's and saw various Roman artifacts. We mainly stayed in the Museum area but there were various other sections to visit. There is also a playground for the kids to enjoy. My kid asked to go again, so I'll probably be returning with the other two as well.

Lovely little museum, loads of interesting items and loads of history, has plenty of interactive bits so great for the kids. Spent about 45 minutes to an hour overall. Really nice place. The little sections about make it feel interesting so you don't feel board. 10/10 for a small museum.

We loved the exhibits and enjoyed our time there. It was good for our daughter who had been learning about it at school. There were quite a few school children who were on a school visit but their teachers controlled them well.

Went on a school trip. Well laid out, basement floor with lift access for toilets and Childrens pegs for bags. Shop at the front on the entrance. Discounts for residents and free access for carers. So many artefacts and the mosaics are breathtaking! Well worth a visit to see them. Staff are amazing, super friendly, attentive and asking if my autistic son needed any further support. Workshops for the school kids really entertaining, dress ups and guessing games. Walk across the park to see the stunning mosaic with free entry. Another short stroll from the museum is a playground and cafe! Closed on Sundays Time we spend at the museum (2 hours) 1 hour at the workshop and other hour looking around.

Quite a unique museum, and perhaps a little bit expensive for entry, however lots of exhibits across three hangers. The exhibits include the prototype Mosquito, an actual Comet and many other aircraft. Each exhibit is very well documented as is the entire story of De Havilland. Overall, a good place to visit if you have an interest in aircraft history or engineering. More suited to late teens and adults as younger children may not appreciate the information and exhibits as much.

I visited the De Havilland Aircraft Museum with friends and my granddaughter. The entrance price is reasonable. There are lots of exhibits in hangars and outside. At the time we visited, there were more volunteers than visitors, which was good for us as they spent time explaining various exhibits to us. Some of the outside exhibits were closed due to the muddy conditions and/or for maintenance. The gift shop and Cafe are both run by volunteers. The coffee machine only dispensed half full cups. This would be my only complaint. I will return in the future to spend more time in order to read the many detailed information plaques and examine the exhibits.

This is a small but perfectly formed idea of the perfect museum. Exhibits you can walk around, and walk into. Explore cabins. Take photos of cockpits without perspex in the way. Wonderful volunteers with plenty of knowledge to part out. Even some nice pictures to purchase 😉

This is a really great museum filled with aviation history. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of De Havilland and beyond. My nephew really enjoyed taking part in a demonstration, sending morse code messages and exploring the planes. A fun half day out for adults and children alike.

This is a small museum with lots of enthusiastic volunteers and well worth a visit. It is less than five minutes from the motorway and way better than any service station. The cafe serves excellent cream teas and the museum has lots of exhibits. There are frequent short talks and presentations and plenty of opportunities for questions. A visit here certainly breaks up a long journey.

April 24- Open Day! £30 for the car and up to 5 of us. Great value as normal entry is £14. Even that is great for what you see and able to soak up. Volunteers do a brilliant job and the planes and whole place is amazing Recommend. Support heritage and restoration

An excellent museum for anyone interested in aeroplanes and aircraft engineering. It has the world leading aircraft and engines developed by De Havilland which became Hawker Siddeley Aviation and then Airbus. Three complete Mosquito aircraft, a Vampire which was the first successful UK jet fighter, a Comet, the first jet airliner, a 146, a 125 ...There is also a room devoted to the De Haviland technical school which was located in Salisbury Hall, including the workpieces we had to make as apprentices, a trip down memory lane, thank you to the volunteers who spoke knowledgeably about the exhibits. There is also a shop with a wide stock of books, models prints and memorabilia. Will come back for a second visit in the summer.

I've been wanting to visit for quite some time and I'm glad I finally did it! From start to finish, you get to see amazing aircrafts as you walk through the history of De Havilland- from the Mosquito to the Comet. There's many planes to which you can walk up the stairs and take a closer look inside the cockpit and you can walk through the cabin of the bigger planes to really get the feel of how commercial flying used to be like when it all started. Family friendly, very helpful and informative staff and volunteers, full of knowledge and passion. You can easily spend a whole day there!

A great day with plenty to see. Excellent history write ups dotted about plus aircraft outside you can go inside. A nice cafe and being a model show day hot food and drinks were outside very reasonably priced. Plenty of helpful volunteers are the oil in the machine. Definitely should visit for this piece of aviation history with actual WW2 Mosquitos as the stars of the show.

Fantastic relatively small aircraft museum where you can learn everything about the De Havilland aircraft produced over the past 100+ years. Great covered displays of many historic aircraft. Especially of interest the famous Mosguito fighter bombers. Other exhibits include the famous Comet aircraft and many more. I was lucky enough to get a free guided tour by one the volunteers which enabled me to see some restoration work in progress. An absolute must see place for aviation enthusiasts.

Arrived about an hour before closing, somewhat expecting to be rushed through the museum but in no means did that happen. Plenty of staff around who had a vast in depth knowledge of the displays, although some exhibits had closed they reopened them for us to view. The most enthusiastic volunteers I have seen in a long long time and the museum was very clean, tidy and well presented. Thank you for the hospitality and will definitely be going back soon!

The museum is great! I have lived in St Albans for years, with children and wished we had gone sooner. My younger ones (7 & 10) loved looking at all of the aircraft, parts, engines as well as the wooden games and Easter Trail. We will be back again when the sun is shining to enjoy the little play area and outside.

Excellent museum including the only Comet 1 airliner with the famous square windows left and several Mosquitos. The guided tour is well worth doing. Also has a good selection of second hand aircraft books for sale in the shop.

Amazing place, I visited here in the late 90s early 2000s, long before new hangars had been built and newer aircraft displayed, it was amazing to see so many and it brought back some fond memories of visits I had with my late grandfather

Nice day out although not a huge place. Thought a bit pricey at £14 per adult considering it can took me just over an hour to go round with a toddler. There was some nice activities for youngsters such as colouring and other craft stuff. Several aircrafts you can enter and walk through both inside and outside if weather permits

A small but well kept selection of famous aircraft including THREE complete Mosquitos. A charming lot of competent volunteers take plenty of time to explain what you see and the surroundings are beautiful.

The spiritual home of the Mosquito. Excellent exhibits of world famous aircraft and the opportunity to see restorations happening in live action. There is an excellent café and gift/book shop with items for all ages. Highly recommended.

A really interesting museum with plenty of volunteers about if you want any detailed info on the exhibits. Plenty to see in the hangers and many planes stored outside so you need good weather to enjoy those. Will certainly make a return visit.

The clock tower is an impressive landmark that is definitely worth a visit. Its architecture is stunning and the clock itself is a marvel. The tower is located in a bustling area with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, making it a great spot to spend an afternoon. The view from the top is breathtaking and offers a unique perspective of the city. Overall, I highly recommend checking out the clock tower if you're in the area.

Lovely views at the top and really interesting history. There are 93 steps that are quite steep and narrow... however you can stop at each floor to read history or to let people pass up/down. The volunteers were very informative and fun, would definitely recommend.

A symbol of civic pride. St Albans' Clock Tower is the only surviving medieval town belfry in England

It is quite cramped and narrow inside and you have to leave bags at the security desk, but the views are good.

After St. Albans Cathedral, this tower is probably the most iconic historic building of the city, build in early 15th century. The building is categorised as grade 1 (most important grade of historical buildings in England). Other buildings around also tell about the french history of the place. Really awesome to visit.

Entrance to the tower for adults is £2, kids free.

Whilst closed when I visited, the Clock Tower is worth a visit. It was nearby that Queen Eleanor rested prior to her post mortem return to London. Charing Cross London being the penultimate stop before Westminster Abbey.

A Grade I listed belfry, constructed around 1400, and claimed to be the only remaining medieval town belfry in England. The Clock Tower is about 20m high, having five floors, including the roof. Each floor is slightly narrower than the previous, as you can discover by climbing the 93-step narrow spiral staircase. A lovely view of the Cathedral can be had from the top - also the colourful market stalls on Wednesdays and Saturdays - all for a nominal fee. Beware though, the staircase becomes increasingly narrow - and I’m fairly slim!

The Clock Tower is open 10:30 - 17:00 every weekend and bank holiday from Friday 7th April to Sunday 1st October 2023 Entry is £2 for adults. If you're feeling energetic enough it's worth climbing the 93 steps to the top for a view over the town centre.

Had an amazing afternoon, walks are very laid out and the pathways are immaculate and tidy, I went with a pushchair and it was easy enough for us to go around

A tremendously well-maintained forest, cared for by the Woodland Trust, with some beautiful areas of ancient woodland. Often staffed by friendly, helpful volunteers. We visited in April 2022 when the bluebells were in bloom, and was impressed by the paths laid throughout the Langley Wood area to preserve the woodland. The arboretum is fascinating, with an example of every tree found natively in the UK, and planted by the tree species’ usage. We saw a lot of wildlife, including a red kite and nuthatches.

It's a nice place to walk with your dog and relax, but I think it's even more charming in summer, because it was a bit muddy today. Anyway, I recommend this place.

Well maintained Woodland with decent paths. Good car park. Busy on days when the weather is good. There are paths to escape the crowds though.

Beautiful forest for walking. We have been there in sunny November and loved there. Not any activity for kids , any playground around but we played with leaves and built a house with woods. I can recommend for sunny days

Lovely spot with a good car park, large spaces and nice walks. Very popular with dog owners. Newly planted forest areas are nearer the car park, while one of the longer walks goes to an ancient woodland - Langley Wood, which has a lovely bluebell display in the late spring.

A nice walking and jogging place. It was a bit windy and chilly but it was worth it. You can see so many dogs and kids during your walk which is very nice. Car park is free and having abundant space. The entry road seems a bit narrow but there are places for passing over. Looking forward to our next trip there.

The perfect place for a gentle walk in the countryside. The bluebells this time of year in the woods ate amazing.

Went through the forest for a nice walk out, the forest itself is wonderful and fairytale-esque. Lots of dog-walkers about, and for good reason as there's plenty of space for them to roam.

This is a newly planted forest build around a couple of ancient woodlands so don't expect the big trees experience. Lots of room to wander. Dog owners well behaved on the whole. There are a series of hardcore made up paths suitable for prams and mobility chairs as well as feet. Further there are a series of tracks which, depending on the weather, get quite muddy, whooppee. The single lane entry road needs patience and there are designated passing places. Parking is adequate but would get very busy during good weather and holiday times. There are no lavatories or a cafe so either bring your down or trot into nearby Sandridge which as a number of refreshment options. A marvellous effort by The Woodland Trust.

Lovely peaceful spot. The house Tour was full when I visited - need to book in advance for this. Also the writing hut does not currently revolve. It was pleasant to sit on the porch - G B Shaw's favourite spot (when not writing in his shed!).

The volunteers were incredibly lovely and knowledgeable and made the visit - there was lots of seating across the gardens which was welcome and it was very peaceful. I think the plan is to do more work on the gardens which Shaw loved so much as they would benefit from some love and attention although I am realistic to understand this is a never ending task . A bit more colour on a lovely sunny day would have been welcome .We were glad we went and whiled away a couple of hours in a very pretty corner of the countryside. The cabin/bookshop was a lovely welcoming little gem.

It was a very busy day with lots of visitors as it was the Bank Holiday. Some young children were unfortunately not enjoying themselves. It was difficult to glean much from the NT volunteers because there were so many people looking round. It was interesting and I will book for the guided tour on a normal opening day as I feel there is much to learn about Bernard Shaw. The gardens were very peaceful with plentiful benches to sit and enjoy the views from.

Great NT property in Central Hertfordshire. Lovely garden for a sunny day. We were there with kids, which was fine. You need to book in advance to see inside the house and there are very limited options in the shop/cafe, so would recommend you bring your own snacks and drink.

Book in advance of your visit. Thanks to very helpful staff I was able to see inside the house of Bernard Shaw which would have been such a shame to miss. Very comprehensive guide informs you of his life filled with anecdotes of him and his wife. The grounds are large and worth walking around to see the small writing hut that could rotate to face the sun

For a house visit you need to book a tour at the ticket hut as you arrive. The garden is delightful.

Really super talk at Shaw's corner. Really knowledgeable guide. Lovely gardens. I really liked the sculptures in the house and garden. There is a good shop here and a mini shop selling light refreshments (there isn't a place to sit and eat where you buy the drinks/ice cream from but you can sit on the bench in the garden). I loved hearing about George Bernard Shaw and the house has alot of interesting artifacts. Parking can be an issue but we were able to park in the Church carpark down the road; not much of a walk back to Shaw's Corner from there. If you want to park at the property I'd recommend arriving early. Staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend especially if you are really interested in George Bernard Shaw.

Wow what a charming place. I stumbled upon it by chance when hiking from Hemel to St Albans. Very well preserved with a working water mill, open Saturday mornings and Sunday at some point. You can visit 4 floors of the mill and buy their bread, buns etc and even go on a baking course. There are toilets and limited parking, it can get busy with people coming to buy the products. Very nice staff.

Truly takes you back in time ⏳ it's nice to see how things used to work in the past. The bread and pastry from the bakery are great 🍞🥨

Excellent bread making course with Steve. A thoroughly enjoyable day and a box of products made on the course to take home, not to mention a lovely hessian bag and other goodies. If you are looking to improve your skills, start a new hobby, or give a gift of a course to someone else then look no further. Highly recommended. Products available to purchase to take home, now I have a sack of organic flour to use, can't wait!

Lovely place to visit! Great variety of different breads to buy (including a very dense loaf called ‘The Brick’). I would highly recommend grabbing an Eccles cake and enjoying it on the benches outside (weather permitting). Worth the walk from St Albans! Will be back again in summer.

Visited one rainy Sunday and it was amazing to see the mill running. They provided plastic covers for my muddy boots so I could explore the mill. You could easily spend a hour or two here (if you like this kind of thing). Lots of detailed information on displayed. The bread we bought was delicious and all the more so knowing it had been sourced and produced within a mile of the mill.

Wonderful mill, with so much history. It takes you back in time. The owner is lovely and the bread is delicious. Highly recommended to visit

Really nice and relaxing place to go on a Saturday afternoon, the mill is crammed with interesting (for me anyway) info and has helpful staff on hand to answer questions about the milling process. This is a genuine hundreds of years old watermill that is still used to mill grain commercially and the breads they sell here are delicious!

I took my granddaughter to the Redbournbury Watermill & Bakery today. She enjoyed exploring the different floors of the museum. I enjoyed the nostalgia of the old tools in particular. The selection of breads and cakes for sale was good and at reasonable prices. The picnic area is a nice place to sit and enjoy the ambience. It is run by very friendly volunteers.

Fantastic historical mill and bakery with beautiful scenery. The bread sells out quickly. Well worth your time. High wheel base cars are recommended.

Lovely experience and a hidden gem near St Albans. Very fascinating to see how the mill works and all the history that is associated with it. You can buy flour and fresh bread at very reasonable prices and walk around the estate and enjoy the nature. It feels like time has stopped and you are transported back to 1900s Will highly recommend it to everyone

Beautiful working Flour mill with 4 floors of great history and information about the workings of the mill. Set in beautiful countryside with the beautiful watermill and see the diesel pump across the water that make the electricity for the mill. Amazing breads I bought corn bread and pumpkin bread only for £4. Great picnic seating area outside too.

The layout is so much better. And it's lovely to see the wasted space filled with flowers and plants. Where it used to be a restricted area. The redevelopment of the cafe/restaurant looks great. Although we didn't visit it.

It is a very good size garden centre with different options from inside and outside plants and furniture. The little caffe place is lovely which makes very nice hot meal and cakes

First visited here on a coach package holiday during the return journey home, an unscheduled stop-off, but well worth it! A well stocked and organised garden centre and aquatics store with a wide range of associated products plus an excellent restaurant that coped admirably well with the arrival of our coach party all eager to sample the food on the fairly extensive menu. Before we continued on our way home we had a chance to thoroughly browse the items on offer and my wife was really impressed with the Christmas Decorations on display and for sale, it being her favourite time of the year, and obviously couldn't resist buying some as gifts for ourselves and family! Our second visit was a rendezvous, as a half way point between Norfolk and Dorset, with my wife's son and daughter-in-law to exchange Christmas gifts and to be able to speak "in the flesh" instead of via the phone! It still impressed, no doubt we'll be doing the same again here!

Fabulous garden centre. Well cared for. Lots of choice. Also lots of garden equipment, home accessories, house plants and a lovely cafe. Now have a new loyalty program too. My favourite in the area.

If your into gardening and plants, definitely a must visit. The selection of stuff was crazy. The staff were friendly when needed and helped as much as they could. They had a good selection of cacti, of which I purchased a couple and some good seed to grow during the British winter (diakon radish). A bit pricey, especially the home stuff. Can be found cheaper online but I guess its the experience that your paying for.

A great place to stop off on a longer journey. The selection of fine foods gave me plenty to choose from for Christmas presents, lots of unusual finds. Excellent. Not too far from Starbucks over the other side of the road if you fancy a coffee, although it does have a.cafe in-house.

Amazing service from Burstons restaurant for our mum’s funeral afternoon tea. Nothing was too much trouble and Laura and her team looked after our party so well. Delicious food too - highly recommended for a private function. And loads of parking too. Thanks to everyone

We went to visit Santa in his grotto and it was absolutely lovely. The decorations made it feel really magical. It wasn't busy or crowded and the 'elves' and Santa made such an effort to engage with our two young children. It's the best Santa's grotto we've been to. The gifts given to my two young children were great too. For the price it is really good value.

Nice garden centre near St. Alban's with a large range of goods on offer. Plus a restaurant that was very busy on my visit. The garden centre was all set up for Christmas when I visited and some of the staff were dressed as elves (I hope they got a Santa bonus). As in itself, it was nice, bright, and modern. Prices were reasonable but more expensive than places like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi and Lidl, but then again the plants were clearly cared for and still alive (unlike some supermarkets). In all, nice garden centre, well stocked, helpful staff. Would have liked to have tried the restaurant but being popular does have its drawbacks 😂 with a long queue.

Has an aquatic centre so automatic 5⭐️ But lovely little garden centre, bit of pain to get out onto the 414 if it's busy but just have to floor it 😉 Cafe was very busy so unfortunately didn't manage to visit that. Loads of indoor plants however, with loads of helpful advice around on what ones to get/ how to care for.

Mother’s day lunch was an absolute shambles. Took an hour for our starters to come and when they did it was thoroughly underwhelming - Soup and half a baguette, pate with a single slice of toast , and a mushroom which was all cold by the time it arrived. Waited another 40 minutes with no sign of our mains or our plates being cleared so cut our losses and left. Young staff moping around didn’t seem to care no one was getting their food. Why have a preordered set menu if it isn’t prepared for when people arrive!!! Dreadful.

Really lovely and amazing nursery so many items from bird products, plants and cards to choose from. Something for everyone I'd say huge variety!! Friendly serving staff also. Had a great lunch too and if you can't finish it you can take it home, I did finish mine though 😉 Noticed there were umbrellas in large pots around the nursery incase of a rain fall great idea 💡 😀

Lovely garden centre. Nicely organized and signed and good knowledgeable staff helping on any questions. Great plants and gardening product selection. Cafe shop with table service can get busy with queue to be seated and served but our experience on busy Sunday was quite pleasant.

One of the best and largest garden centres for 15 kilometres. It is a family owned business on a 3 hectare site. The quality of plants is a testament to how good a family business can be compared to chain garden centres. It is a nursery and much of the stock is grown on site. Looking at the stock quality I could not find any problems. Much of the stock is under cover with a trickle water system keeping plants healthy.

Place is huge! Massive variety and friendly and helpful staff. Everything is well looked after. Prices seemed perhaps a little higher than other garden centres but otherwise, superb and you are paying for quality

This is a large very well stocked garden centre, and unlike a lot these days very focused on plants. It is certainly a one stop shop as they have most gardening related things all under one roof. The staff always appear to be happy and approachable and the ones we spoke to went out of there way to help. We visited to see the celebration garden at the side of the nursery it's open all year round but August is the time to visit whilst it's all in bloom. They have a restaurant it looked good but we chose to take coffee and cake near the celebration garden. The celebration garden raises money for charity It's a great shame that few people appear to donate. Toilets were clean and tidy. Dogs are permitted as long as well behaved and kept on leads. There is masses of easy access parking on site.

CELEBRATION GARDEN next to the garden centre is a must to visit if you are a big fan Dahlias. We went early September and was really beautiful.

Nice, wide selection of good quality plants. Lots of gift ideas, so can easily spend an afternoon mooching round the centre. Really pleasant cafe, with fresh scones baked on the premises. Very happy with the orange and almond one that was available that day.

Lovely nursery with everything garden related that you will need. Wonderful cafe too, the place just has a nice calm vibe to it.

Did a click and collect from here last week. Very simple and order was ready at the pickup point (to the left of the main building entrance, where the larger car park starts there are large gates). You call the number on the sign and a very helpful lady came and opened the gates. I could see my order waiting to be collected. Painless and took about 10 minutes in and out. Highly recommended.

We go every year to buy our Christmas tree, literally a tradition now and I have to say another year where we were met by such kind friendly people! Thank you soo much to the two gentlemen that helped my son and I with our tree and even got him involved with passing it through the netting device with such enthusiasm he was so excited! Wishing you all a great Christmas and we will be back every week for our little Christmas village bits 😊

This place is incredible. I have used them both for delivery and in store shopping. The range alone is a gardeners dream, the staff are attentive and on hand, the centre itself is well laid out and clean and it has a good atmosphere. It really is a one-stop shop for all your needs whether you potter around in a garden, own a gardener business or like me have allotments it truly has all you need. A must visit.

Wonderful garden centre, and the indoor plant section in particular is amazing. It's huge and well stocked with a vast variety of plants. Very helpful information provided everywhere about specific plant care, and care brochures available by scanning QR codes. Added to all that, very friendly helpful and knowledgeable staff on hand. It's certainly the best and largest indoor plant section I've ever seen. Very worthwhile visiting.

Shame it is situated on a busy and fast paced road. Parking is good but don't think you can park close to the doors for a fast entrance and exit as the way in is nowhere near the way out. Just park where you can and park with care. Excellent selection of plants, pots, garden decorations and other bits. I always go to get my roses from Ayletts, make excellent gifts due to the wide selection and names of them. Can browse without being hassled which is great. Only downside on this visit was being pressured to get their app. One gentleman wasn't keen and the "just log into our WiFi and down load it", "it won't take long", "just go to your app store" did not work, he seemed to be dismissed for not wanting to do it. Most places just ask you if you have the app and if you don't they move on. Stop the hard push for the app. Unless you are giving away cash incentives he clearly wasn't interested and only wanted his plants! Why not set up a little table to promote the benefits? Other than your big sign on the way in, there is nothing else showing the reasons to get it. Just a suggestion. Found the perfect rose for my friend though so all good

Lovely spa, included with my platinum everyone active membership. Only marked down a star as it was such a sunny beautiful day, the sun terrace didn’t have any of the tables or loungers out.

Management at this place need to tell the young people who work there to wake up, look interested, go faster , care about the people who use this centre and provide some service in a quick, fast manner .. !! Everyone walking around doing nothing !!! Takes 3 people to serve a coffee in a disinterested, I don’t want to be here , I’d rather be looking at my phone kind of way .

First time here and I really enjoyed it. Frindly reception, great changing rooms, the Learner pool (and the small one for babies) was clean and not crowded. My 9mo baby loved the whole experience. We will certainly come back!

Been coming to this facility for a couple of years, so really welcomed the December 2022 renovation. However despite the new machines and all the overall quality of the gym has gone down! Too many people crammed in a small space, gym stretching area regularly packed, changing areas and showers in poor state. To the managers: I can see you want the business to grow but you've got to keep the standards up too or people will move on.

I’m not sure I’ve ever encountered such rude and dismissive staff. I attend here regularly for a class as a non-member and everything seems to be a problem for them. The hall we use is always boiling hot and the toilets are dirty. Hopefully the current uncertainty over parking will be resolved but for now I have to pay on top of paying for my class. Don’t even think of leaving a bike locked here because it won’t be there when you come out - and if you ignore this advice and your bike is stolen don’t even bother asking about cctv.

Great leisure center, many amenities, not too busy during the day. I took one star off as there's no soap in dispensers in the pool area every time I visit, and changing rooms can be messy during peak hours, but in overall strong 4+

I have been a member since WL opened. It was great at the start. Good range of fitness classes, friendly staff, parking was easy, just press one button, you got 2 hours free. However since then, the classes are reduced, changing rooms are now run down, lockers and showers are barely fit for purpose. They took the soap dispensers out. They are Luke warm at best. Ceiling in the gym has been leaking for years, even after the gym refurbish Dec 22. Parking is now awful, they replaced the simple machines with a very slow internet connected machine, which are often out of order. Now they have changed it once again, you now have to register your reg in the WL reception area, to get your two hours parking included in the membership, they have only installed 3 machines, one is already out of order, it is already causing queues and taking time out of your workouts/free time. And if you return within 24hrs, you have to pay on top of your membership. I decided to cancel my membership. However council tax has gone up, parking charges up, services poor.

Very impressive, booking my activity was easy and upon arrival the service was excellent. We went swimming and the changing rooms are clean and well spaced put and the pool itself is very nice, lifeguards made sure my 8 year old could swim properly before allowing him on the inflatable and its the attention to detail regarding safety that I though was really nice, seems this centre has plenty to offer....its inspired me to look a little deeper into the activities they run and possibly take up a sport.

Significant improvement since the December 2022 renovation. The weights/cardio/machines area is top notch now, big upgrade over the the previous area with all new equipment. If I have to complain about anything, the lockers/bathrooms could be much improved. Also the WiFi signal in the facility is very poor.

Wanted to take my 6 month old in the baby pool just for 30 mins. Website hard work but figured out there was public swimming when I wanted to go. Not clear that you still need to book just for public swimming during a week day. Tried calling to check but no answer so just turned up and was told the pool was too busy and should have booked… went to the cafe… over £7 for a sandwich and drink and saw the pool had hardly anyone in it… not the best experience… went to Herfordshire sports village instead. Free parking and no need to book, a much nicer experience.

I’ve just read a lot of negative reviews 😬 however I can’t really agree with them based on my experiences. The facilities as I see them are excellent. I feel that we are very lucky to have this sports hub in a very convenient location for many. The coffee shop is spacious, the wall is great, the gym is large and airy, and the people I’ve encountered are helpful and friendly. Hopefully the issues I’ve read about are taken care of.

Your App needs sorting! It’s impossible to book a session. Be it swimming, yoga, Pilates, I have been trying for hours today but cannot log in. I cant even log n to cancel a class in advance. Something. Will charge me for. Swimming. What is gong , why do I have to get t on the hour? This breaks up my flow, and seems pointless, I end up leaving. When I as for help on site, I just get a shrug of shoulders from staff This really isn’t worth the membership fee.

The gym and classes are great but the upkeep of the facilities is appalling. Constantly loosing coins in lockers. Ceiling in the gym leaks. The screen in the spin room is glitchy. Reported in February one locker is full of rubbish and it's still full of rubbish in April. Hardly worth £40 a month when you can't keep it at least clean

Very disappointed with our visit today. We booked the family swim (for half term) and on arrival were told we could only use the competition pool, which was freezing. My two year old wanted to get out after 15 mins - in tears with chattering teeth. They wouldn't let us use the toddler splash area since it was near where swimming lessons were taking place (this wasnt flagged at booking). Receptionists offered little apology. I don't think you can say something is family swim and then have conditions which aren't suitable for kids.

A very poor experience today (16.11.23). Booked over the phone the 2-3 session for 2 adults, 1 x5 year old and 1 baby. Paid on arrival and changed, on entering the learner and water confidence pool and were told they were closed for lessons and only the big pool was open. This was entirely unsuitable for a 1 year old and cold for a 5 year old. I had to immediately change the 1 year old back into clothes and returned to reception, grateful to be given a refund by a lovely girl. The other adult and 5 year old remained in the pool (although extremely cold) while I and the baby sat on the side, and they were looking forward to staying til 3. At 2:55 they were briskly told the session was over. When my husband said 2-3 was the advertised session (it clearly states this online) she shouted ‘sessions are 55 minutes you need to get out and ask at reception.’ This should be amended for the advertising online. A very poor experience and we will find an alternative leisure centre in future.

I don't know about the sport facilities but the café staff are pretty terrible. Let's start with the positive: coffee costs GBP2.7 for a small americano. It is of a reasonable standard, though. Staff fairly incompetent. Asked for a small americano with a splash of milk. Was immediately charged for a large and then asked if I'd like milk. Menu offers a wide array of snacks but when I requested a sausage roll was abruptly told that they can only offer me porridge. Ridiculous. EDIT: another customer was served a bacon sandwich after I was offered porridge. But she then returned it, describing it to me as 'inedible'.

Fascinating place, to be able to step back in time and see how the trains used to run. My grandchild loved it nearly as much as I did.

A great little gem of a signal box and gardens alongside the railway. The staff there are very friendly and will show you around the working signals that are in the garden. The highlight is a demonstration of signal working from the signal box from a very informative gentleman. Refreshments are mugs of tea and free biscuits and you can keep the mugs for a nominal fee. You can also watch the mainline trains from the garden or from the signal box. A big thankyou to all the staff and including the lady that sold me a DVD of past lines in Hertfordshire. Highly recommended for all ages even adults. Free entrance but do please give donations to the running of this amazing place in St Albans

Lovely bunch of volunteers who have restored an old and derelict signal box and made it into a community asset. Open around twice a month and worth visiting. Lots of good stories about the railway, and demonstrations that would be good for children. Nice little garden as well. Book shop and tea and biscuits on offer.

Really excellent, detailed experience. Shown around by 3 knowledgeable guides, with plenty of hands on bits to keep a 12 year old boy and 9 year old girl entertained. Ended up spending more than an hour there

To see the work that has gone into the restoration of the building you can understand the devotion everyone had and has to keep the Signal Box up and running for people to see. It may well be free entry but I'm pretty sure every penny donated by visitors is used to the last penny in the upkeep or to purchase more historic items before they are lost.

This was a brilliant couple of hours. The people running this place have so much knowledge about the history of the signal box, local area, trains running on the tracks right now, physics and engineering of the signal operations. They were excellent at engaging my 9yr old son with both knowledge and hands on operation of the signals. They shared their enthusiasm for railways and history and connected with him in a way that other museums have not been able. Just brilliant.

Fascinating place. Variety of displays for adults and children. My friend and I enjoyed the demonstration in the signal box very interesting.

Small museum with a peaceful ambiance. Staff are really friendly and the gift shop has the cutest gifts. Lots of aesthetic paintings, art and filled with history.

Great museum to explore. We found the old jail cells and courtroom interesting. . We enjoyed reading about the history of St Albans too. There was an exhibition featuring the history of local Jewish people, which was very informative. Recommend a visit if you're in the area, it's a short 10 minute walk from the cathedral (a must see!) . Would recommend 1-2 hours for the museum. Visited with my children, 12 and 8 yes old.

It was a court before and now they turn it into a cafe, and have a little bit of background introduction to the history of st.albans. You can also visit the dungeon used to lock the criminals

Such a nice place. An art gallery n museum together at one place. Museum is downstairs n art gallery is upstairs. Cool art exhibitions as well as great historic stuff in museum. Great location right in the middle of city. Shopping centre, cafes, pubs around. Worth to visit. Even now a days just beautiful with Xmas vibes.

What an amazing space, if only to experience the cells and court that were once in daily use and now you can sit and eat cake and sip a nice drink. Great photo opportunities in here!

This is an extremely historic building. It is not only grand in stature. It is also has amazing history. I love drinking afternoon tea inside a converted courtroom. There are plenty of toilets, and a few historic relics dotted over the place.

Love this place and always make a point to visit it when I’m in Albans. It’s right in the center of the city so it’s so convenient. It’s not massive but has very limited work. My fav part is the courtroom cafe! Great place to grab coffee and snack. Staff is very very pleasant

I attended a regency ball in the upstairs room which can be hired out for weddings, etc. Plenty of space. Easy access toilets. Sweeping staicase and a lift for the less able/ heavy equipment.

A great museum about the city. Thanks to the museum staff for telling the story of the exhibits.

I didn't get to look round the museum on this visit, but will definitely be back. It's a great place to stop for a coffee as the seating is in the old courthouse. It was really quirky and fun. Lots of photo opportunities. From the dock you can go down the stairs a prisoner would have taken to the cells.

So unique having cake and coffee in a formerly working courtroom with the toilets underneath in former prison cells. Love it!

Attended a party of about 200 guests here. The teens really enjoyed it. Far to noisy for the adults. It is a fabulous location for a party, conference, lecture, etcetera. Plenty of parking, some less than 10 minutes walk away. There is a drop-off point for those unable to walk far. Some of the daytime staff were on duty in the evening I was there. They are willing to explain details about some of the exhibits and the history of the building.

Loved the time for tea exhibit and the crimes & art exhibits in the lower floor. Very cool. Quaint little place. Buy from cafe and eat in courtroom! Great way to repurpose a town building.

It's a very nice museum. Three levels with various displays, exhibitions and art. Toilets, unique cafe in a court, cells underneath, a shop...if you want a free day out in St Albans make this one of your destinations

Smaller than it was years ago but still excellent with a great range of products from (mostly) genuinely local farms, unlike the Saturday market fruit stalls which are mostly just flogging from wholesale

The market is steeped in history with a special Royal Charter granted in 1553. However, the market is well documented as far back as the 9th century. The current day market is firmly established in the city centre and runs the length of St Peters Street and Market Place. From August 2020 the market has extended its footprint to allow for as many traders as possible to have a stall while allowing for the necessary social distancing measures. Just approaching Christmas 2020 only essential stalls are allowed; including a butcher, cheese monger, bakery goods, takeaway food and lots of fresh fruit & vegetables.

Nice hive of activity. Some good artsy stalls. The colour of flowers and fruit are invitational. The food stalls have a good variety. I settled for chinese.
