What a beautiful park! You can find lots of tracks to follow at your own pace, beautiful buildings such as “old fashioned” castle and the Hercules statue. 520 more stairs to reach the top, if you can make it it will be memorable!

Beautiful park in Kassel with a lot of things to see. The park combines nature and historical architecture to give you a good time when visiting. The well maintained paths make walking in the park very easy and just enjoyable with a lot of things to see while walking around it… the views you get just makes it even more worth it to visit. A must visit place when visiting Kassel!

Stunning garden with incredible water features, aqueduct, ruins, lovely bridges and more. It's 1,5km hike up the hill but well worth it. There is no entry fee to the garden but there is a palace that functions as a museum and a small castle that you have pay an entry fee. There is a Cafe near the museum and on top of the hill. The one on top was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays when we visited.

What a beautiful park! The buildings and the nature is fantastic. You can follow the trail and the view after the climb over is gorgeous specially with fall colours.I loved it!

This park is filled with natural beauty and historical structures. There’s mountain, forest and 3 amazing castles. You can take a bus from main train station to the top of mountain where herkules is. And you can see all the beautiful landscapes while climbing down.

An absolute wholesome experience. You can book a two days trip here book a nice little air bnb (I stayed at helga's- the couple is super sweet and helpful) visit the wilhelmshöhe and reserve a nice brunch/frühstück at some Cafe. It's worth the visit. Breathtaking view and a must visit place.

This is a very large park, basically a half to full day event with a wonderful castle, this amazing waterfall and Hercules construction, and more. Not a huge amount of parking so when the water falls are operating it may get very busy. All free, except the parking :)

Lots of ups and downs. There are several signs telling stories of the historical events of the park, but all of them are worn out to the point where you can't read anything - a real shame such a historical significant place! No public parking places - you have to park at a nearby hotel.

Great place to enjoy nature and hike. The view from the top is splendid which made the trail so worth it (there's a bus though that can take you all the way to the top, or can take the car to avoid walking).

Here, encountering early morning tourists whose smoke seems to taint the pure spirit - here, no poison is needed. A swift return, circling the Löwenburg like a perfect drawing in a Disney landscape. Even Michael Jackson would have liked to erect fences here, but it remains a public place, a park that I miss painfully wherever I am in the world. Here, one feels alive, the heart beats faster, faster.

A great park and quite naturally a must-see when visiting Kassel. Of course, summer is the best time for a visit as the water features will be active, but even in winter (when I visited), it's a five star experience if you visit the five stations of the water features and the other highlights. Despite it's erratic layout, the park is easy to navigate thanks to many maps scattered throughout. One point of consideration is that after snowfall has melted and frozen again (which was the case during my visit), various walkways and staircases can become very slippery, to the point of becoming dangerous to walk upon.

What a lovely place to visit. Nice walks in greenery. Fresh air, sound of flowing water, birds. You can easily spend your whole day here. 6€ ticket is worth it. You can visit the top of Hercules statue, museum, Löwenberg all in the same ticket. The view from top was awesome.

Running. Definitely a great location for your run, especially if you are into hill training. Lots of places to see along the way in case I need to catch your breath. Paved and unpaved roads, plenty of shade in the summer and during winter, the trees protect you from the wind.

This is the best experiences I had in Germany. It is wonderful with nature and location of the forte at the top of the mountain. You have to take a long way with steps upwards to arrive at the top. It is simply worth it. Be careful of slippery steps of snowing

Beautifull. We went to see the free to enter Monument outside, parking was next to it. You can make some water dance for a slight € wich was a fun little activity to watch. Everything looks beautifull and i can't wait to see it once the waterfountains are put back on and are in season again. Really recommend going here, but please watch out with fear of hights and its not save when you are not a stable walker!

Nice place to visit. There are a lot of stairs but we were with a child on a buggy. At first we thought we couldn't go down, but on the right side of the movement there is a path to go down, making it accessible for people who can't walk the stairs, but can go down and up the hill.

I had an amazing hike to the top from the city center. I had the chance to wander around the castles on the way and visit the museum before I head up to the statue. It was around 2.5 hours of walking and it was stunning. Definitely worth a visit.

Just like the previous reviews I’m also recommending this place to everyone who is interest in nature and architecture. It isn’t that easy to go down all the stairs and afterwards all the way down to the castle BUT I‘M TELLING YOU IT‘S WORTH EVERY STEP. Going up you can take a Bus and then start from the top and walk down until you reach the beautiful castle. If you want you can even walk through a foresty park and see a tiny waterfall as well. As a bonus there is one of the cutest tram stations I have seen in Germany so far.

A good experience. Specially the view of the Kassel from top of the monument is breathtaking.. The path is a long one and includes a lot of stairs so you will have to put some effort into climbing. My 5 stars is because I really enjoyed the climb. It was really crowded on Sunday. The water show happens late, but luckily it happened on the day I visited i.e Sunday.

Paid parking and a crazy amount of steps just to see really various ídols. Wondering if the closed off caverns attracted human sacrifices by certain spiritual groups. Pretty good views though.

Excellent walk in the woods and great view from the top. You can take the bus upwards and walk down with a view. There is some Cafes on the road as well so you can take a break half say down.

Must visit heritage site. You can park and take the shuttle to go up. Your parking ticket includes shuttle to go up and return. But if you wish to walk, you can walk through the park and go up the stairs to reach the Hercules monument and walk down. Or you can do one way by walk and one way by shuttle. Walking down the stairs and down hill is easy and so we opted to take the shuttle to go up and walked our way down to the parking. Check out the timing of water flow and make sure you are at the edge of the park where the water falls after flowing down the steps from the Hercules monument.

All of a sudden trip to this marvelous place in Kassel. The view from the top and the perpendicular Wilhelmshöher Allee is just insane. Visit during the sunset would be recommended. Beware it takes 500+ steps to reach the top of the monument.

A very nice experience. An interesting monument that emerges from the culture in Germany. When asked, many people from Germany did not even know that there was a park like this in Germany. I recommend the tour, but it takes a little more time, because there are also parks and waterfalls that you can visit. It also has a castle. Bring some water and comfortable shoes.

There are great trails for walking and cycling. It is also a very suitable place for a family picnic. The building in the park also looks incredibly majestic. It has a great atmosphere and view. There is also the opportunity to see the city of Kassel from above.

We visited the lower ground of the castle while on a family vacation. The views are amazing, lovely gardens and many green alleys to indulge in nature. Gardens are very well maintained and are simply breathtaking. You can enjoy a lovely view of the City from the top part of the castle

The museum is good enough to enjoy the stories of the Greeks. However, it has no ancient monuments as it contains prototypes for statues, vases and temples. However, It contains some nice art work and it is the only place in Kassel to buy souvenirs as postcards and magnets 🧲 😀. A bit expensive souvenirs, but it's okay..

A beautiful art gallery housed in a new classical palace in a landscape park. The gallery holds a fine collection of art including works of Rembrandt and Rubens. The landscape park is named Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe (which means mountain-park) and it has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2013

apart from a handful of gems, second rate works from second rate artists. reflections, bad and sometimes flickering lighting deserve the exposed pieces. one entire floor closed (without explanation, possibly because of missing enough employees) and many works removed from the walls with hooks left falling down. unpleasant and amateur staff seal the visit. how sad.

Absolutely stunning! When we visited the fountain wasn’t working (it was in April) but this absolutely did not diminish our experience. It was still impressive! The complex is quite a way up, so if you would like to avoid a climb and a hike, you can take tram 1 and then a bus to the top, and then walk down :)

Probably the most prominent feature of the park and the main attraction to visitors! This 350 meters long water Grand Cascade stretches from the Neptune fountain at the bottom all the way to the Octagon with Hercules statue at the top. It's quite a hike with many stairs to reach the peak, however there are plenty of features, such as fountains, statues and sculptures, on the way to stop and admire. Platforms and observation decks offer nice views of the surroundings as well as of the cascade itself. I had a little bit of an issue with the cleanliness and the maintenance. Unfortunately a lot of cigarette butts, broken glass bottles and plastic trash were omnipresent, taking my focus and joy away. As for a world heritage site I would expect a different level of presentation. This is the place where the water show starts, at 3:30 PM every Wednesday, Sunday and some public holidays. It's a slow process if you are watching this at the Neptune's fountain at the bottom of the cascade. It takes approximately 10 minutes until the water reaches the pond and covers the cave. It gets very crowded here, and I mean CROWDED, therefore I recommend coming early (I secured my place right in front nearly 45 minutes prior to the start). It's quite a unique experience to see this extraordinary water spectacle! The roaring water adds a completely different atmosphere to the whole place! Visited on a Sunday in August 2022.

Must see. I started from the bottom of the hill and it was quite a climb. There was no water on the day otherwise it would have been even better. I went inside the castle and up to the pyramid. It costs 6euro but the ticket is also good for you to go into the museum.

Easily one of the best experiences in my life. If you are to visit Kassel, DO_NOT_MISS_THIS! It is best to follow the water as it goes downstream. There is a particular order of venues you should visit as the water flows on. Just follow the crowd and keep the timetables in mind. It is also good to bring some wine and food along.

The website was a littel bit straings on telling when the waters are on. So we did not see the whater but. It was a nice walk whith nice vieuws. Very romantic and picturesque castle! Löwenburg also known as Lion castle was intentionally built as an artificial ruin castle, therefore it is very rich in decoration and ornaments. Visitors can stroll by its courtyard and admire its features for free. As the major renovations were completed just recently, in July 2022, the castle looks stunning and brand new! I was, however, disappointed with the organization of the visit! I purchased a 6 EUR combined ticket allowing me to visit the Octagon with Hercules statue and Wilhelmshöhe castle along with the Löwenburg, however I was unable to do so. The only option to visit the inner chambers is with a guided tour that needs to be booked online and in advance. Unfortunately I was not informed about this when buying the ticket in the information center earlier that morning, therefore I was not able to get in as all slots were booked. This quite complex scheme of booking takes all the fun away from exploring such a beautiful place. Nice views of the castle can be experienced from Turnierplatz, a vertical garden with benches located on the south side. Visited in August 2022.

Set in the scenery of the Bergpark above Wilhelmshöhe Palace, the castle of Löwenburg, built between 1793 and 1801, was among the earliest mock-medieval »ruins« of Continental Europe. Even within the gesamtkunstwerk of Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, it is an outstanding monument in its own right. Landgrave Wilhelm IX (r. 1785–1821, later Elector Wilhelm I) commissioned his court architect, Heinrich Christoph Jussow (1754–1825), to create the building. The castle was intended to serve two purposes: on the one hand it provided the Landgrave with a maison de plaisance, on the other it was designed to represent the historical status of the House of Hesse, which had been in power since the Middle Ages. Although the structure resembles a semi-ruined knight's castle from the outside, its interior conforms to the characteristic layout of a Baroque country palace. It also includes, besides the princely apartments, an armoury and a Neo-Gothic chapel. The castle's patron found his final resting place in the crypt beneath the chapel. The castle's immediate surroundings were laid out to conform to the medieval theme: they included a deliberately old-world castle garden, a vineyard, a tiltyard, and a menagerie. The Wolves' Glen at the foot of the structure was originally intended to provide the setting for a monumental waterfall, which would have become a major element of the park's Romantic water features if it had been built. The project was abandoned early on, however. The castle's artfully ruinous appearance became a sad fact when the keep and other parts of the structure were destroyed during WWII. Construction work is underway to restore the keep, reinforce the existing structure, and re-furnish the rooms with their original furniture and fittings. Once the work is complete, visitors will be able to experience Löwenburg as it looked in the time of Elector Wilhelm I.

Visited while on family vacation. Totally amazing place with plenty of beautiful views and tracks to enjoy on the grounds. Definitely well worth a small hike up, now I haven't seen any track or sign for buggies or wheelchair users. As there are a good few stairs to claim up at the final part. But there might be an alternative road, that I'm not aware of.

Nice castle located close to the Hercules monument, you just have to walk 900meters, meanwhile you look and appreciate the environment that is gorgeous. I recommend spring and auntumm too visit it.

Amazing looking castle. It has so many adjustments and rebuilds over the years that it has so many different styles to it. It was closed when I was there, however.

At the time of visit the castle was under intense construction so we just took pictures from afar. Took electric scooters all the way up to it from the city. No bathrooms. Very beautiful.

It is a nice historical place to hang out in Kassel. There is no entry fee to visit this place. Even though, you have to walk around 2km to reach hear from the nearest public transport this place is worth visiting. Normally a little busy on weekends.

Looked great from the outside although the castle is not really big. Quite far from the entrance or the park but good to take a look and maybe take pictures. I did not get to have the guided tour and see the inside so it was not really something special. Maybe I would recommend you to get the guided tour so your trip there will be worth your time.

Hey everyone....Landgrave William IX had the Löwenburg built in his Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe between 1793 and 1801. It was designed to look like the ruins of a knight's castle to emphasize that his family had already ruled the state since 1567. The complex therefore contains everything essential from the Middle Ages of the castle - from the impressive castle guard to the rosters and armory...

It's a nice stop on route, but I wouldn't go out of my way. They do nice tours which are good.

Very interesting place but if you do not buy tickets to the castle online in advance the personal doesn't allows you to buy the at the place. It's a shame but well, they must have enough visitors. Park and castle from what we saw was very nice, we didn't go to Hercules statue because it was under reconstruction. Otherwise I suggest to visit it, it is interesting to see even only from outside.

The museum looks very cool and modern. But it's a very text based museum. Not a lot to see. They try to make it interactive but it does fail. It is a maze. The stories that are there are written in a very dull way. The museum itself is a very cool building

This was such a fun experience and so informative. Us as the adults learnt so much about the history of the Grimm brothers and their achievements. I only ever knew them from the fairy tales. We all really enjoyed this and will definitely visit again.

We visited both the permanent and the special exhibition. Especially the latter was very interesting. There is a swing that you use in combination with VR-goggles for a really cool ride through a "dream?" World into outer space. The staff was really helpful and friendly as well.

It's a very well made museum and a great one for lovers of fairy tales and passionate linguists. The Grimm Brothers were pioneers of the modern German language and their story is depicted in these fascinating panels that remind one of a Chinese shadow theatre. Some installations were not my cup of tea, but the stylized forest is awesome! I best loved the room where the tale of Rumpelstilzchen is recounted in countless different languages and dialects (a video instalation). Definitely recommended!

Great museum to know more about Grimms brother works.

Very interesting display of their life. They spend a lot of time on their incomplete efforts to make a dictionary of German words. An "art installation" of movie and TV clips based on Grimm fairy tales was interesting.

Everyone knows the Grimm's brothers for their folk tales. The Grimm Welt Museum is a large space that has an interpretation of his life and work. Recommended by adults with a large connection to their inner nest. Information only in German and English languages.

Great building, airy, good food. The display is cool though a little confusing to navigate, more about their literary achievements than their tales but interesting.

Everyone has listened or read at least one tale in their life. This tale is very likely to be the Grimm Brothers. (Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood etc.) Here must be visited to get to know the authors of the great tales we read.

This museum was not what i expected but it turned out to be so much more! I had really only known about the Grimm Brothers through their fairytales but from this museum i learnt so much more about the brothers and their lives. It was a really interesting museum with lots of exhibits and information on the brothers. Quite a few interactive exhibits too bring the fairytales to life.The roof gallery is great too as you can see over Kassel. If your in Kassel or the surrounding are then i would recommend visiting the museum!

Quite nice museum, very modern, friendly staff, placed in a big green sea. A bit of Grimm's history made in a modern description (with a lot of effects) - more for adults/ teen, not so interesting for small children

The Planetarium is hosting a wonderful exhibition from QUEEN! Something that shouldn't be missed! Not only is the place a very beautiful building but it is also a great place to go out and enjoy the beer gardens! I saw many people enjoying their selves on the lawn and making a nice spring evening better!

What a beautiful park, great for a stroll or just sitting on the grass. There is a restaurant in the orangerie building and a playground close to the water.

A large, maintained green space in the heart of Kassel was a welcome respite from the crowds in the public squares. Enjoy the peaceful trails, water ways, and swimming birds throughout. There are lots of places for picnic lunches and benches for seating.

Not fun or interesting. I can see how that would attract some people and offer an interesting visit, but not for me. The temporary exhibition is nothing to see at all.

The idea of the museum is great, but the experience hasn’t fulfilled my expectations. Some tombstones, three coffins and a couple of explanatory posters and trinkets are not worth the 8 euros admission.

I loved this museum! I visited during Documenta 15, so my impression is colored by the additional temporary exhibits. It's on the smaller side and quite divers in regards to the passing rites and beliefs, super visuals, no grotesque depictions. A highlight is the Café. Don't miss having a cup next to a coffin and hearse. Memento mori , indeed!

Unique museum in Kassel looking at cultural and social aspects of death. Wish there were more museums displaying this very important side of end of life.

Very interesting and worth to see. On Saturday tickets for adults cost 6 EUR. The exhibition shows how different cultures are dealing with death and gives some impression on how it changed throughout the years. It could be a bit scary for little children but may help to understand what does it mean when someone passes away.
