Absolutely stunning in the evening. Definitely make part of your visit walking up and seeing this in the sunset. Partially built temple where only the giant doorway remains standing. Honestly I'm thankful they never finished it because the doorway Infront of the sunset is beautiful. Go earlier or later to avoid the crowds

This is the only building from antiquity that remains in the town of Naxos. There isn't much to see though, just a doorway and some foundation stones. It isn't exactly impressive, though its location commands attention. The sunsets here are particularly beautiful, but expect around a thousand tourists to want to view and photograph them

We went at roughly 10AM and it was cloudy sky's and really windy but it is just simply gorgeous once you're up there. You gotta walk across a little path and pray to Poseiden not to splash you with his small cresting waves. And the walk back to the city is also STUNNING! Very very very picture friendly at all angles. Lasty, it's not stroller / wheel chair friendly but you can leave it right at the bottom and head on up either it. Very safe.

Naxos is a lovely Island. Visited June 2023. Quiet, clean, lovely beaches. Can recommend restaurant 520. Lovely food. Definitely would return here. Visited on small cruise boat. Climbed the hill to the Temple which was not too strenuous but watched the sunset from the boat.

The most famous and photographic place in Naxos. The only thing that stands is a doorway called Portara, and some ruins at the bottom. I have visited here a few times over the years, and it does gets very crowded at sunset but is a great experience if you are on the island then. Also before it used yo he open but now is cordoned off to prevent people climbing on it.

There is just something so surreal about only a portera (gate/door) standing from what was intended to be a full temple. According to records it was never finished, for whatever reason. Now it creates a unique subject for viewing, contemplation, and GORGEOUS sunsets. We loved checking it out from different angles, and cannot decided which was best. We recommend it for any time of the day, though especially sunrise or sunset. The wind 💨 does really pick up in the afternoon, so it can get uncomfortable and/or cold 🥶 A light jacket is definitely recommended! EnJOY!

Can’t be missed if your visiting Naxos. The history behind the temple is that people destroyed the temple but the door (the part that we see now) was to heavy to take away so it had to stay there. The temple is so beautiful in the sunset when the sun goes inside the door.

A beautiful, peaceful sunset. On the way, we heard two young men play beautiful music. There are a ton of restaurants and ice cream joints nearby to visit after visiting the Temple of Apollo - Portara. Parking is hard to find.

Incredible seeing it up close. Went in the evening the first day and second day went to see the sunset. Suggest if you want to be in front of the temple to see the sunset you need to be there one hour before sunset or earlier. But anywhere you go will be okay. While quiet and reflective during the winter visit, the summer months is a lively contrast, with the temple and its surroundings coming to life with a seaside cafe spot that offers ancient history with a lively vibe.

Magical, and completely free. Easy stroll up and around. A must-see. Go at sunset for beautiful photos, but it’s also most likely to be crowded at that time.

The Portara is a must see when in Naxos! The views here were stunning especially looking back at Naxos. There is barely anyone there during the day during peak season as it’s very hot, but once you get up to the top it’s quite windy anyway. It’s an easy short walk from Chora. Definitely recommend!

Probably most famous spot of Naxos. If you want to have it for yourself come during the day and pay attention that you will not be here when ferry arrives. But if you don't mind crowds and would like to feel the atmosphere, sunset time is the best time to be here as crowds come and enjoy music, light and romantic atmosphere.

This site is an absolute beauty. The owner of my hostel suggested that we come around sunset and the views were amazing. Not too busy around late march early April, but still warm enough to walk around without jackets. Amazing!

It was a nice landmark site very accessible to all who enter the port. Night pictures are advisable too! Not many people around due to the season, so snapped some nice photos in nice weather. Doesn't take long to walk up to temple and take some pictures. No tickets necessary.

Definitely worth a visit for those young, old and mobility challenged. I'm in a wheelchair and with a bit of process of elimination I managed to find the donkey and cart stair free access. There is also an elevator which then takes you into the castle itself. I highly recommend wandering the streets first though.

Old castle, not very well preserved. I somehow thought that I would be able to walk on the top of the castle and look down on the village but it was nothing like that. Was not able to go in, just walked on boring alleyways.

It's a nice walk up to the Kastro, if you can find it 😉, with a lovely view at the Harbour and the city centre. Most of all I like wandering around in the old village.

Unfortunately during the off season it is closed but it was still worth the quick 2 minute detour off the main road to just drive by it and see all of its beauty. During the summer it should be back open again for public viewing.

The tickets to enter are €5 each and there’s a dedicated parking outside. The man that worked at the reception was ever so friendly and told us the history of the tower alongside explaining that there are works of contemporary artists too inside. The pray room/chapel inside is marvellous and is worth paying just to see it!

Very interesting 500 years old tower. Worths a visit, just for the history of it. Used to be a monastery. Also hosts exhibits and a festival on summers.

Amazing experience. The day we visit it, there was an art exhibition by Klaus Pfeiffer. A must visit if you are around. There is also a small cafe inside the tower.

Not the biggest attraction on the island, but surely still a nice spot to visit, if you're passing nearby. The tickets are fairly cheap (5€), and the guide at the beginning gives you the information about the tower, and a brochure. The tower is now used as a gallery. Currently, there are works of a German artist Klaus Pfeiffer (1938-2022), who lived on Naxos for many decades. The exhibition is titled "Wings of Icarus", and is certainly worth seeing. On the top, there's also a great place to take some stunning photos.

Beautiful piece of architecture very well kept up by the current owners. You can see some parts of what the original monastery might have looked like. Where the church was and where the table the monks would sit and eat at was. The art exhibition that was on was interesting as well. Definitely worth visiting.

Well recontructed place! The view from top of the building is magnificent. Visiting the place it is like entering a time machine and visiting the past. Especially if the is a tour guide to make an intro for your and a little bit of a history knowledge! Some families with the surname: "Bazeos (Vazeos) : Greek = Βαζαίος" live in Amorgos island and now days they have a famous musician for his voice (a singer) and and his attitude, Lefteris Vazaios (Λευτέρης Βαζαίος). Mostly famous for new age songs from the islands, as the Greeks we call them, Nisiotika (Νησιώτικα)

It'a good place to visit. Ancient rooms of monks with some pieces of International artists. Not so big so you will end to visit in 20 minutes max. Ticket price 5€.

What an unpleasant surprise at Naxos harbour! 50€ per night. When we decide that we will not stay we are charged 10€ for the 30 min we docked! This guy puts the 10 € in his pocket not giving us a receipt! Will never ever go there again! Beautiful, quiet island, especially in the winter. There are lot's of local agricultural products,like famous Graviera cheese,wine and fresh fish. White sand beaches are found on the one side of the island. There is a small airport but mostly boats are the main transportation way. It's very close to Paros island and some other islands make it ideal destination for a combination of various islands vacation. In the summer it's very crowded but I personally believe this Aegean gem is a whole year destination.

Great Island for exploring the little villages and mountains on an ATV! On Naxos it’s a must to explore outside of the main town! Not as picturesque as Mykonos or Santorini but still nice and much cheaper!

As beautiful as all Greek islands. The western part has an almost never ending stretch of sandy beach, including plaka beach. The central part is hilly. Roads in some areas, specially along the beaches are not paved but ok to drive. There is no encircling road, to get to some parts of the island, you need to drive up to the center and take the necessary turn from there. It's always windy in the cyclades and specially so in Naxos. There can be strong chilly winds, be equipped with a good wind jacket.

A Greek island that is part of the Cyclades group of islands, particularly beautiful with its very colorful alleys, with flowers and unique buildings. The existing restaurants, bars and clubs give you the opportunity to taste the local delicacies and have fun both day and night. Naxos must be visited especially by those in love!

I have been to many of the Greek Island from the ionian to the aegean large and small and Naxos is by far my favourite. If arriving by ferry you arrive right into Chora and by plane from Athens then its only a short ride to Chora. Chora in my opinion is the area to stay in or even better on Agios Georgios and a good spot to access the rest of the island by tour, car or bicycle. The north and the interior is quite hilly and mountainous contrasted by the long sandy beaches of the west coast. Great walks cycling hikes etc are available all over the island The town is a mix of quintessential cyclades and modern Greek. The town is busy but not overly especially compared to Mykonos and Santorini. It's a nice mix not too quite not to busy.

Lovely island. It offers so many attractions as beautiful beaches with cristaline and turquoise waters, charming and evocative mountain villages, antiche greek ruins, a lot of outdoor and sports venues. Not to mention the big variety of good restaurants and bars serving delicious Greek food for a honest price. Its location provide a great base for many near islands as Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Milos and much more.

Best Island for relaxing and enjoying true Greek culture. Wonderful people. Naxos has some of the best beaches in Greece. If laying on the beach is not your scene, then you can go hiking, wine tasting, shopping, sailing, or many other things. Naxos town is reminiscent of Mykonos but much smaller and way more affordable. There is plenty of do and see in town with great food, shopping, and sunset views.

Great beach with a beautiful sunset view over Paros island. The waves were calm and the sand was perfect. There are no sea beds/umbrellas and the path towards the beach is a bit narrow and involves a bit of climbing when going back up(nothing too difficult)

Recommend Hawaii Beach over Aliko proper - the water is choppier and more fun to swim in. Some fish - bass and what looked like sole along the bottom. Clear blue/turquoise waters. Bring your own parasol recommended to take a break from the sun (buy one at the local supermarkets for 30-40 Euros.

What an unpleasant surprise at Naxos harbour! 50€ per night. When we decide that we will not stay we are charged 10€ for the 30 min we docked! This guy puts the 10 € in his pocket not giving us a receipt! Will never ever go there again!
