Amazing place. We walked through the +\- 1000 stairs from the city to the fortress and it has been a great hike for us and our son (6yo). Stunning views and interesting building construction on top. Highly recommended!

We recently visited Greece and had the amazing opportunity to explore this magnificent fortress. The views were spectacular from every angle. The architecture was phenomenal. Highly recommend adding this to must sees!

Very nice Venetian fortress. The views are wonderful. Of course it's a bit of a hike up but nothing too strenuous. I liked Nafplion very much but my wife wouldn't get off the cruise boat after what we went through in Athens.

Very very windy. The surfaces are uneven so wear appropriate footwear and take your time. The view from this vantage point is incredible and definitely worth however you travel wether by the 999 steps up or by bus. I took the bus... 😂

If you are visiting Nafplio, I wouldn't miss visiting the Fortress. My girlfriend, our 12 year old daughter and I were here and spent roughly 3 hours exploring and we had a very nice and tiring time. Be prepared to duck, crouch and thoroughly enjoy yourself. Beautiful surroundings and it wasn't crowded at all.

Visited March 31st. The spring has bloomed. Flowers everywhere. Purple and red colors. The climb to the top was difficult since my sister and myself are not the fittest people on earth. But the climb was WORTH IT. Views are to die for. Highly recommend. Tickets are €4 up until March 31st and after that beginning April 1st they are €8. Pricey tickets but worth it. We were tired by the time we climbed up so we took a taxi back down to our hotel. Taxi costs €10.

A very impressive fortress includes eight structures at 2000 meters above sea level. Beautiful views over Nafplio city and the sea. Wonderful arches framing blue water views. Possibility to go down by a thousand steps that get you back to the town.

This venetian fortress is a very nice place to explore. You can access it by car or by foot, but be aware that if you want to go by foot, be prepared to climb 999 stairs (this is the local saying, I would say that is even more 😅). The view from the stairs is amazing

Palamidi is an impressive fort above Nafplio with outstanding views. Be aware that it's around 1000 steps(!) to the very top up the stairway. It's quite expensive to get in though, the ticket office is at the top and it's E8 per person (kids under 18 free, and also discounts for 18-25s from EU countries). There's a prison cell and a small church at the top, along with a small cafe and toilets. Worth it for the views, but only just. If you want to save some cash you can just hike 2/3 of the way up the stairs and enjoy the view... But do it before midday when the sun starts shining on the stairway...

Actually the best view of ancient ruins I found in Greece. Even Acropolis didn’t do it. Views on the see are mesmerizing. But it doesn’t look like smth Greece - more like English. And it is huge

Fortress is in very good conditions and really beautiful. Equally beautiful is also view from above. Approach is pretty hard, but can be a good training. There are around thousand steps from the western side. From the eastern side approach is a little bit easier but longer. Also from the eastern side is possible come by car.

A large fortress on top of the highest point in the area, with fantastic and commanding views of the whole area. It gets very busy at weekends, especially just after the schools break up. You have to be physically able to attempt the climb up the stairs. The alternative is the road entrance although parking is limited.

A very well preserved fortress from the 17th century accessible by walk but I would recommend taxi. You need at least 2 hours to walk around. Splendid view on the town of Navplio below.

This great archeological sight showcases both great architecture and the jail cell of a man who participated in the Greek war for independence. It's a great place to visit if you are staying in Nafplio. I spent quite a long time here, looking at every crevice and the picturesque view. It would have been quite a great idea to explain the cell and the general fortress in a better way. For example to show the history of it and the events that took place there. Sure there were some signs but they did not specify anything.

A more recent fortress than all the other archeological sites nearby. It has nice views and is well maintained. Not sure how crowded it is in a more touristic season, but when we went in January it was ideal.

We did NOT walk the stairs! Used the parking lot ( 😊). Very interesting spot to visit, great views as well. Make sure to visit the cell ( maybe not if you’re claustrophobic ).

Walking the 950+ stairs is a challenge and dangerous in parts. But the rewards are many with an ice cold water fountain at the ticket booth and some stunning views. The site itself is brilliant. Very large and again some very dangerous areas where you could plunge to your death but with care and being sensible, climbing over this structure and reading its history is brilliant.

Amazing place of history. An expansive site. Views to die for. We arrived by car. Not a lot of parking available but lucky it was the off season (early October). I did notice that there was a open top hop on hop off bus that probably came from Napflion. Would probably be the best option in peak season instead of the 99 steps or drive.

Nice hike (steps) to the rear gate of the fortress (fortress closed after hours) with a gorgeous view of the promontory, Nafplio's old town. The sunset is breath taking!

Loved visiting the castle during our stay in Nafplio. We did not climb the steps we were able to drive up. It would have been nice to have more information on the castle but definitely worth a visit, stunning views

I know why people give this beach negative reviews because it’s maybe not what you think of as a “Greek” beach. However, I thought it was wonderful. Spent a delightful few hours there is morning before the rains came down. Yes, I’m here when it was quiet so virtually had the beach to ourselves. We came prepared as we knew the bar was closed but they appeared to be working on it. Plenty of fish to spy in the sea too although you do need beach shoes because of the pebbles but that’s not unusual in Greece For me, it was the perfect wee beach. I stayed five minutes in Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia, (a beach people say is a must do) mainly because it was jammed packed with folk. Sometimes less is more

Nice beach with warm water. We enjoyed the walk from town on the cliff walk. Be careful of small biting fish - keep kicking your feet. Nice fresh water showers.

Beautiful, just wow, and the path along the mountain. Have toilets (bring paper), shower and some changing rooms are even available for the public.

Beautiful beach in Nafplion, just below the fortress. Lots of parking, and easy access. It is a rocky beach, so be aware. Water is super clear and blue. Views are great. There are showers, and bathrooms.

Free entrance and ample space to park. A day before,we went but it was filled up with many people swimming and then we return the next day at 6:53am to swim and it was so beautiful, relaxing,QUIET and water wasn’t cold. By the car park area,you have got free things to exercise with. FYI: white small fishes in the sea that will come close to you as you swim. So be careful if you have got wounds that’s still healing because they will come and open it up.

Amazing road to walk, mostly in the full sun, but some benches in the shade. The view is sooo beautiful, one of the prettiest places I've been during my trip in Greece. Only negative thing is that there is a locked fence and there is no other way to go than around it or back. You can just pass the fence, but I got really confused. There seems no reason for it to be there?

It’s really beautiful here. But if you are here off season there is no restaurant and everything looks a bit bedraggled. The see is amazing also when it’s not so sunny. The water is still warm (if you are used to it to go ice bathing). 😉

One of my favorite beaches. Only 4* because the sand is not clean. Because of the turist lack of basic education. Anyway, the water is lovely and clean. Most of the time there are no waves and the water are not very deep (the first meters), so it is fitted for families with children.

Nice beach minus the garbage and the big homeless dogs. Lots of parking for motorhomes or other large vehicles. Sadly the washrooms only exist on the sign as the restaurateurs locked them all up as their own. Their is showers on the beach which is nice to have after a swim.

I recently visited the archaeological museum and was blown away by the incredible exhibits of ancient Greek and Roman artifacts. The attention to detail and preservation of these treasures was truly impressive. The knowledgeable staff added depth and context to the experience. Highly recommend for history buffs and anyone interested in ancient cultures.

A lovely collection of interesting and priceless pieces of art and tools that come from an era long gone. Great atmosphere and not crowded even during peak vacation days in Greece. You might find the entry rules to be slightly discriminatory: if you’re an EU citizen under 25 years of age it’s free, if you’re a non-EU citizen under 25 it’s 3€. Albeit, both EU and non-EU over 25 are required to pay the full price of 6€. I personally don’t see the point in all of that but in any case, the entry is not overpriced in my opinion.

Really interesting museum with very good English translations on all of the artifacts. If it is as hot as it was when we were in Nafplio, 42 degrees, it was a welcome distractions as the Museum is fully airconditioned

Fascinating collection here. Nafplio has beautiful neoclassical buildings and makes an excellent base for exploring historical sites in the northern Peloponnese.

Just another mediocre museum. In case you visited you won't spend more than 15mins inside. Try Mycenae only, this musuem has nothing to offer.

Like walking into the remnants of an episode of Time Team, some interesting flint arrow heads and a selection of broken pots. Just missing baldric from blackadder and an array of small stone walls. Only 3 bucks to get in so it made a cool break from shopping.

It's cool, but at $8 each it's a little steep for what you'll find inside. There's two very small floors of exhibits. The staff working are also ridiculously intrusive with watching the patrons. We often felt as though we were the exhibits and that the staff were there to see us. Pro-tip: bring your own toilet paper. There was none when we tried to use the restroom and when I informed the museum staff they told me that it wasn't their job to tend to the bathrooms. Really nice!

Why the shop assistant ask where I m come from and give me after the answer the price for the more expensive ticket 6€!?? It felt discriminate. Its depends where I come from to pay how high the entrance? Small exhibition, 3€ like in war museum beside will be enough for my opinion. But generally good and interesting.

Nafplio Museum is a cute and quaint little museum in a small town, but perhaps unsurprisingly, it doesn't quite have the calibre of exhibits of some of the bigger museum. There's basically just a lot of pots, and not - to my mind at least - particularly exciting examples. It feels churlish to be complaining about the quality of pots which have survived thousands of years but there we have it. For 6€ it's at least not very expensive, and quite small so you can see everything within an hour. I just wish there'd been a bit more or it had been presented in a more exciting manner.

Full of wonders. Beautifully arranged displays of many of the region's numerous archaeological sites. A small museum, set out over 2 floors, by era and site, with English & Greek narratives and keys. Essential if you are in the area and interested in it's literally epic ancient history.

Athens tends to grab the jewels in the crown so the provincial museums are of limited interest. But worth a visit. It doesn't take very long.

Beautiful historical museum, located at the old town's central square of Nauplio. Two floors, with many foundings, well maintained as well as in good condition are existing at the museum, which have been discovered from areas around the city. Interesting, educational, worth visiting.

This is a small museum containing a large number of old vases from a range of era's. The museum is conveniently located on the main square. Entrance is €6 (at the time of writing) and totally worth it. Highly recommended to anyone visiting the town and interested in these sorts of things

Fascinating ruins but definitely not for mobility impaired visitors. Very quiet, few people, good signage in Greek and English and interesting to see this ancient place. Be sure to visit the archeology museum in Nafplio to see extensive collections from the excavation. Get the combo ticket for 20 euro.

It is part of very old history and unfortunately not as extensive and well preserved as Mykini (Mycenae) yet visit them both and marvel at what people are capable of and given time how destructive w can be through war and our own importance. Great pity that we always repeat the same cycle.

Ticket is 4/2€ (summer/winter). This is probably the saddest archeological site I've ever seen. Despite its importance - a large Mycenean city of ~1500BCE, near Mycene itself - the sorry state of the site and its unappealing context do not make it worth a stop. The city is probably almost as big as Mycene, with amazing cyclopean walls, two entrances, and several specialised town areas. However, I counted a total of 3 information panels: 2 explained small restoration interventions happened probably a decade ago, and a single panel was a map with a layout plan view. No historical explanation, nothing is given you at the entrance. I'd gladly pay a bit more to get at least a small handout. The acropolis has an interesting example of 2-megaron palace - again, if you don't know this in advance, you won't notice nor appreciate this. There were excavation and repair works across the site, without any sign or explanation of what was going on. They didn't look good. Finally, the context. Unlike Mycene, this site is placed on a low hill and is surrounded by a plain with many constructions - including a prison, which ruins the view from the acropolis towards the seaside. Additionally, it's evidently close to a landfill, given the bad smell all around the site. Add also the noise from the trafficked road which makes its western edge. The personnel started closing the gate half an hour before the stated closure time, and the bathrooms were closed already at least an hour before closure, when we tried to use it. It's really sad to see such an important site in this state.

Quite a small monument, that is out of the way, but also comes with a nice view of the surrounding area

Tiryns is a very underrated Mycenaean site I think because it lacks the place held by Homer in Mycenae, Sparta, Pylos and Odysseus’ Ithaca, wherever that may be. But it is a fascinating site full of mysteries and many more questions than answers. And it is rather accommodatingly close to Napflios, and worth an hour or two stop either in your way there, or in your way way from. It’s easy to see why earlier visitors bought into the Cyclops builder story. It’s hard not to wonder how Bronze Age technology managed building these massive fortresses with such large, heavy stone well before the invention of the pulley and the crane. But they did all over Greece and beyond. Tiryns besides being yet another massive Mycenaean fortress has a sense of aesthetics to it, whether by some of the colorful stone used or by employing interesting tunnels and hidey-holes. There is a reason it seems to have survived the dissolution that occurred at the end of the Bronze Age and had a significant population present until well into the Iron Age. Whatever the reason, it’s worth a visit.

A historical gem just so easily overlooked but just next to the main road. Can compete with Mycene closeby but you can be alone , views and remains are breathtaking.

An amazing ancient site that brings you in touch with the civilization that existed thousands of years ago. It’s a unique chance to touch the ancient stones and imagine vividly the mythical ethos that we read in Greek texts.

Well preserved Mycenaean citadel between Argos and Nauplion. Large parking area. Citadel itself could use some additional boards explaining various areas and findings. Visit Napflion Archaeological Museum beforehand to get some context.

Come for the famous "well-built walls", stay for the sloping, monolithic stone floor of the palace's bathroom with peg-holes for the benches and walls, as well as the drain.

Very atmospheric with its great walls and much less popular than its illustrious neighbour. No museum all the finds are in the archeological museum of Athens. But really worth a visit. They are still excavating.

Strengthened and in a good mood, we now go to the excavations of Tiryns (UNESCO World Heritage Site), only a few kilometers away. Schliemann swung his spade here in 1876 and the German Archaeological Society has been conserving and restoring here since 1967. The 725-meter-long Mycenaean fortification walls on the rock plateau, which is only a few meters high, are particularly powerful at up to 17 meters high and 8 meters wide. The largest individual blocks weigh 13 tons. Afterwards we drive to a nearby orange grove, where a small but well-preserved Mycenaean tholos tomb slumbers.

Walking through history is what crossed my mind as walked these ancient pathways. The entrance is not as easy to find as you might think but well worth driving around to find!

The water castle of Bourtzi is a Venetian castle located in the middle of the harbour of Nafplio. The small island of Bourtzi in Nafplion is popular for its strong, impressive fortress. Still known by its Turkish name Bourtzi, meaning the Tower, it attracts many visitors all year round. Antonio Gambello, an architect from Bergamo, built the castle in 1471 on this tiny islet in front of the port of Nafplion, although the construction was completed by the engineer Brancaleone. The design was made specifically to fit the narrow shape of the islet. The fort's design is adjusted to the elongated shape of the islet. In its centre, there is a hexagonal three story tower where the communication between floors took place via mobile ladders for security reasons. The water supply was covered by a spacious circular reservoir situated at the basement of the tower. To the north-east a small harbour was designed to provide access to the fort; today the tourists' boats anchor here. The fort was modified and renovated but never lost its special characteristics. Bourtzi is unique, the only sea fort that exists, and the most recognizable landscape in Greece.

Beautiful place

A beautiful venetian castle in the middle of Nafplio’s Harbour. To visit it you can go to Nafplio port. The boat will navigate around meanwhile the guide explains you it’s history.

It can be visit only by boat, 4.50 euro the trip of 20 minutes. The castle can not be visited. The trip boat offeres a great view of Bourtzi Castle and of the Port of Nafplio as well.

You can take a boat trip around it but can't actually visit. It makes a great subject for a photo though.

You have to take the small boat from the seaside to reach it and it is a worth going experience!

Very beautiful beach but... there’s no sand but rather little stones and there isn’t one place to lay in the shade! If you come here do bring a sun umbrella, something thick to lay on, drinking water and sun lotion. Other than that, there are dressing stalls so you can easily change your clothes!

A pebble beach ,on the side of the medieval castle of Palamidi!!The view is amazing on both sides ,as it reveals the great history and the past of the city of Nafplion!The water is clean and towards the right side of the beach there are lots of rocks ,where you can place your towel and sunbathe!!The best hour is towards the afternoon, where is not so crowded and the sun is going down....

Beautiful beach very close to Nafplio, the beach offers blue clear waters, free seating, a beach bar, restrooms, dressing room, showers and has it’s own free parking space which is very secure. The only inconvenient of this beach is that is a rocky beach, there is no sand, so do not forget to wear aqua shoes to avoid scratches on your feet, out of that is a perfect spot to have a dip and spend some time swimming on the clear blue waters of the argolic gulf.

Absolutely stunning! Our visit in late October was a true delight. The weather was absolutely perfect, with just the right touch of crispness in the air. The serene forest was graced by only a few fellow explorers, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the breathtaking, awe-inspiring scenery.

Great views of the fortress at sunset and the Nafplio gulf on the other side. Worth a long evening hike around the peninsula. However the castle itself is quite unkempt, which has it charm but beware slippery stones and stingy cacti! It's possible to also reach the beach on the North side of the peninsula which is lovely and cool and with bar. Great for an evening swim. Stunning sights all around.

Great view facing the ocean and the Palamidi Fortress 🇬🇷

A really nice area with old ruins of a historical fortress. There are some signs that explain what you see. I think the entire area could have been much more inviting if it was cleaner and more facilitated than it currently is. This area is like a park so ENTRANCE IS FREE. You can easily access it by car or by foot, and the walk up there is not hard and very beautiful if you come through the little streets or the old town. Things to note: 1. There are no railings or safety fences in some areas which are high, so if you bring kids do keep them close. 2. There are great views of the beach and the fortress on the mountain, as well as nice spots for sunsets. 3. If you need to choose between here and the fortress on the mountain, go to the mountain one. Although there’re an entrance free, it is much more impressive. If you went up the mountain and you have time, it’s a nice addition but not mandatory. If you don’t have time for the mountain, come here.

It has a very calm and peaceful view. A historical place where you can walk comfortably. In addition, it is very wonderful to watch the castle and the city in the middle of the sea from above. You can easily go out by car.

You can visit by foot (recommended) or car. Has grate view over Nafplion and it is peaceful. A must visit if you are in Nafplion I think.

Got up there 3:10 and was told i could not enter as it closes at 3:30. Apperently there is a sign at the bottom that does not exist stating this. Unless someone pulled it down. Anyway, worker at entrance was rude and awful. He even got other people involved which Was unnecessary. 0 professionalism. And wouldnt let anyone enter. As a tourist who is coming for a day to visit i suggest being a bit flexible with entry times . There is no sign at the bottom and if there is it needs to be bigger and not a piece of paper that can fly away .

This is an excellent museum. You can learn a lot about the folk craft and dress and style, the culture, with brilliant vibrant examples displayed chronologically through the museum. In addition you will learn more about Greek history and people in a way. The folk crafts are in excellent condition and displayed very well. The museum gift shop is excellent as well and is a must see. I highly recommend visiting it is well worth it!

Small but unique set of displays of Greek clothing styles, furniture, historic events, and machinery since 1830s. There are 2 floors of displays with stairway and elevator to each. Good insight into history of Napflio as a developing trade center.

Honestly I am not very fond of folklore museums but I was pleasantly surprised from the vast amount of exhibits. Everything is extremely well preserved and maintained. The thematic exhibitions are fabulous and the price of 5€ is certainly very low for the amount of information you can learn and the photos you can take. Also the folklore ticket provides free entrance to the isolated exhibition area near the museum (ask for directions at the reception) and also to the childcare museum 5' away. Last but not least the museum's gift shop is one of the best I have seen in a Greek museum. Enormous and with great variety of products. 5/5 highly recommended.

The exposition is quite worth seeing, but not much there. Just the thrill of seeing artefacts from Romantic days give by. Not expensive ticket and gives you a break from the sun. Easy reach as the museum is on the corner of the main tourist area. The gift shop is small but have some lovely hand made gifts and quality reproduction of ancient goods. Look carefully and you will leave with some lovely gifts in a dandy paper bag.

Here Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias was assassinated on October 9th 1831, by members of the Mavromichalis family. He was shot and stabbed. The bullet hole is still in the wall by the entrance. Painting inside the church of the assassination. If you go check out the ottoman fountains in the square with Arabic calligraphy.

Gorgeous church with significant history.

The Church of Agios (Saint) Spiridon in Nafplion, Peloponnese: The church of Agios Spyridon is located in the Old Town of Nafplion, along with the paved streets of the town. This church was first built in 1702 with the financing of the Nafplion Brotherhood of Orthodox Greeks. This is a single-space basilica with a dome and a bell tower constructed in 1853. The interior of the church is solemn and there are many Byzantine icons and paintings around the walls. The painting that marks out for its vivid colors and its unusual theme is the large fresco of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, just opposite the entrance door. Also, another unusual sign for an Orthodox church is the Star of David, a Jewish symbol that can be seen at the floor, almost in the center of the church. This church has an important historical significance for the Greeks. It was there that on September 27th, 1831, the first governor of the newly-established Greek State, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was assassinated by his political opponents, some men from the Mavrokordatos family, a wealthy and strong family that time in Greece who had contributed a lot in the Greek War of Independence. That Sunday morning, Kapodistrias was going to the Holy Mass. As usually, he preferred this church that was dedicated to Saint Spiridon, the protector of his homeland, Corfu. Few men appeared from the stairs opposite the church and shot him. In fact, some of these bullets still have their prints against the wall of the church. These prints have been framed in a glass case. Personally the specific historical church is very beautiful from outside and from inside.

Very nice orthodox old style church, with a very interesting monument of the spot that the first governor of modern Greece Ioannis Kapodistrias was assasinated.

The very place where the history of our small nation changed for worse. The shady assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of the independent state of Greece, turned our country from a modern republic to a puppet kingdom, which is the source of pathogenicity up to this day for modern Greece. Sit on the stairs opposite to the church entrance and let your imagination unfold the tragic event.

A historical spot, in a historical town. If you go to Nafplio (first capital of Hellas), you must walk by the saint Spyridon church (where the first Hellenic prime minister Kapodistria was shot and killed).

Loved the Council of Ephesus icon on the side wall. Very prayerful experience.

Great experience of the Greek military since the rebellion against the ottomans until WW2. A lot of memorabilia of old weapons, photos and other things. Highly recommended.

In this historical building the first military school of Greece was founded. The collection is superb starting from the 1821 Greek Revolution era .WWI&WW2 exhibition items are also included. A visit in this place is a must and everyone should give it a try.

Very educational museum! Nice mix of photos and written information. There was enough in English that we were satisfied. If we need more details about events, we can always do an online search.

The War Museum of Nafplio is housed in the two storey neo-classical building. This building was built originally the to house the first Military Academy in Greece. It was founded by Ioannis Kapodistrias, in order to provide the army with suitably educated recruits. Since its restoration in 1988 it has housed the War Museum. Interesting site of historical importance.

Great place for history. The detailed information is in Greek and English. Plus they have an excellent film on the history. Staff friendly. Clean. Bright. Good location.

The price is fair (3€) for the exhibits. Inside you will see military equipment and uniforms from the Greek Revolution of 1821 until the early post WWII era. The exhibits are well maintained themselves but the building isn't. Also some frames are ill maintained and that's inappropriate for a museum in an important historical place as Nafplio. Overall if you are interested to check bits from Greek military history, give it a try. Otherwise, check the gorgeous folklore museum instead. 3/5

My friend received a discriminatory attitude by a lady there and was asked a personal question which had nothing to do with their amber products. I wouldn't recommend this shop though they have some good pieces at a capped price ofcourse! Answer to the answer: No ma'am, the questions asked were beyond the protocol and government's guidelines. You should apologise instread of putting the blame to him or excuse behind the protocols. Sadly you lost 2 potential buyers

Cute little place with soooo many worry beads, rosaries etc. Doesn’t take long to look around and the lady behind the counter is super helpful- explaining all about them.

Nice small museum at the centre of the old town of Nauplio. It has a big collection Komboloi(rosary) from different countries, unique of it's kind. Two euro ticket for the entrance, photos are not allowed. Nice gift opportunities from the shop at the ground floor.

This was a fabulous stop. Loved learning about Komboloi and seeing a huge assortment of beautiful, handmade komboloi. We bought many as special and unique souvenirs. This is a must see in Naphlion.

Great little museum. Well worth a visit in Nafplio old town. There is a shop downstairs selling Komboloi, but upstairs there is a super interesting museum that charts the history of komboloi around Greece and similar items all over the world. The member of staff was very helpful.

Here Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias was assassinated on October 9th 1831, by members of the Mavromichalis family. He was shot and stabbed. The bullet hole is still in the wall by the entrance. Gorgeous church with significant history.

The Church of Agios (Saint) Spiridon in Nafplion, Peloponnese: The church of Agios Spyridon is located in the Old Town of Nafplion, along with the paved streets of the town. This church was first built in 1702 with the financing of the Nafplion Brotherhood of Orthodox Greeks. This is a single-space basilica with a dome and a bell tower constructed in 1853. The interior of the church is solemn and there are many Byzantine icons and paintings around the walls. The painting that marks out for its vivid colors and its unusual theme is the large fresco of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, just opposite the entrance door. Also, another unusual sign for an Orthodox church is the Star of David, a Jewish symbol that can be seen at the floor, almost in the center of the church. This church has an important historical significance for the Greeks. It was there that on September 27th, 1831, the first governor of the newly-established Greek State, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was assassinated by his political opponents, some men from the Mavrokordatos family, a wealthy and strong family that time in Greece who had contributed a lot in the Greek War of Independence. That Sunday morning, Kapodistrias was going to the Holy Mass. As usually, he preferred this church that was dedicated to Saint Spiridon, the protector of his homeland, Corfu. Few men appeared from the stairs opposite the church and shot him. In fact, some of these bullets still have their prints against the wall of the church. These prints have been framed in a glass case. Personally the specific historical church is very beautiful from outside and from inside.

The very place where the history of our small nation changed for worse. The shady assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of the independent state of Greece, turned our country from a modern republic to a puppet kingdom, which is the source of pathogenicity up to this day for modern Greece. Sit on the stairs opposite to the church entrance and let your imagination unfold the tragic event.

A historical spot, in a historical town. If you go to Nafplio (first capital of Hellas), you must walk by the saint Spyridon church (where the first Hellenic prime minister Kapodistria was shot and killed).

Beautiful church with historic significance.

It is truly ludicrous that this museum demands people to pay a ticket. No wonder it is completely empty most of the time. Why bother paying all that staff if you have no visitors? Did someone think that it would be a quick way to take money off tourists?

Knowing virtually nothing about XIX and XX Century Greek artworks ald loving Romanticism, we were excited to enter this wonderful building. We were not expecting French or German heights, but the result was: few artworks (which is not the bad point) of bad quality. It looked like an exhibition of "inspired by masters" paintings and sculptures - by De Chirico (who was born in Greece), Gericault and so on. Contemporary are obviously cliché. Moreover, one of the employees just followed us all the time, like a guard dog - at least she may have been prettier than the stuff on the walls. Worst 10 euros spent in our life (5 each).

Little Museum full dedicated to the Independence Greek war.

Pros Price is fair (3€) The building is gorgeous. We went when a 1821 exhibition was being held so the theme was only focused at the Greek Revolution of 1821 but the paintings, weapons, statuses and letters were well preserved and of high quality. It has elevator. Cons The gallery isn't very big (about 6-7 rooms) and thus the amount of paintings is rather small. The staff isn't very informative and we had no guide or someone to walk us through the gallery. Overall if you like art give it a shot. Else easy pass.

A family-run distillery since 1869. An informative session on how Ouzo is made followed by a tasting session. You can try Ouzo with 40% alcohol and 44% alcohol, a lemonade liqueur, and Mastika, a liqueur made from the sap of an evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean. The last tasting, Mastika, should not be missed.

It's a family owned and operated distillery for many generations. The tour and the museum was really informative and something to see. The ouzo tasting was great. Such a friendly and welcoming family with great tasting ouzu.
