Excellent day out. Really interesting place. Well organized, everyone helpful and friendly, they make you very welcome. Very educational. Well worth a visit.
Fantastic Place to visit. A lot more to see than I expected. Gives a great insight to life in the workhouse with individual peoples stories. The National Trust have done a great job of recreating the workhouse and infirmary.
When you arrive you get handed a handset that explains things and stories as you go from room to room and then tells stories of objects within the room. The national trust appear to have made a great effort in making the place accessible for all abilities.
What an amazing historical experience. The curators and volunteers at the museum were excellent. Really made history come alive. You are able to "interact" with the exhibits. Listening devices allowed you to listen in to interviews with people who had actually lived there. Every room held a different story. So many books and crannies, doors and 'hidden' spaces. My imagination had no bounds.
Fascinating history of how the Poor Laws were reformed and developed into the Workhouse, which, in itself, was the forerunner of the Welfare State. We were able to catch the tour delivered by Ken - hugely knowledgeable about the history of the site. If you can get on a tour - do so. It doesn't cost extra and you will learn a lot.
We visited during the Easter holidays and they had laid out multiple games/challenges/items for visiting children - many of them knitted (see photos).
A really good day out and Southwell Minster is just the road; also well worth a visit.
Having visited here few times previously I knew this place was steeped in history and very fascinating to learn about how people lived in years gone by. The infirmary is an interesting addition to the workhouse and was not open last time I came. It takes a few hours to walk round and read all the information, great to step back in time and well worth a visit to support the national trust.
Lovely afternoon exploring the workhouse and infirmary. Went on the tour of the outside which gave some more information and used one of the electronic labels. Definitely worth a visit.
I found this place really interesting and educational. To see how these people used to be treated and how they lived was fascinating. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and me and the children had a really good time.
My girls both got an activity sheet to find the items, could dress as characters and were able to touch many of the items.
The restaurant here is fantastic. I had the biggest, tastiest Jacket potato meal I have ever had at a National Trust site. It was amazing and extremely filling. I'd happily go back for the food alone although I do highly recommend a look around the workhouse.
Loved it. So much history, walking through you can imagine yourself there, see and feel the people you shared the place with, and learn much about what conditions were like for those down on their luck. Informational plaques were outstanding in the information they provided. Staff were great and provided a lot of great information.
A fantastic trip back in time to the workhorse. Tours are available to join or you can buy a guide book or use the free hand held devices that you can scan at certain points to learn more about the building. Some nice displays and an art exhibition on the top floor. The volunteers are knowledgeable and those playing people from the time are fantastic and happy to chat, even matron. Cafe and toilets and the second hand book shop. Lots of stairs inside and you can visit all levels. All sign posted so you don't get lost
National Trust saves and presents to the public important part of Britain's history. I was surprised that workhouses were part of the local community's form early XIX th century. I recommend going for a guided tour to find out more details
Free parking and also free admission if you are a member of the national trust. Free roaming of the grounds and house. Very relaxed walk around.
Interesting historical tour of the changes to the poor laws. Good guides in the form of small pads to view info on. Does not really get how grim the place must have been as the building is so well looked after. But interesting social history. Also have a go a the stick and hoop with your kids. It’s surprising how hard it is. Cafe is good.
Fantastic visitor experience, definitely get on one of the free outside tours first, really proves invaluable once inside. Really changed my understanding of workhouses.

No gift shop which was a real bummer, always like to have a souvenir. Would be 5 stars if there had been a half decent one.
Unusual National Trust property. Very thought provoking about workhouse and social services up to 1980s. Enjoyed textile exhibits as well. Womens quilt for domestic violence was very poignant.
Genuinely enjoyed this and the kids (8 and 6) took a real interest in everything. Give yourself a good amount of time, we were there 4 hours, including a picnic lunch (maybe 20 minutes). Each room had good information in it, telling the story of some of the real people who lived or worked there. The hand held devices for information were good and helped to keep the kids interested as they had to find the circles around the workhouse to place them on for the next bit of information. The only downside to these was that the information sometimes went a little too quickly to read, but we're short enough to watch a couple of times to get all of the information. Be prepared to read quickly though!!
All of the staff were very friendly. Toilets were clean - I did struggle to find them but I think this was more my failing than the centre!!
Amazing atmospheric place with a deep history. Cafe staff are superb. Excellent for photography too. A real hidden gem in the National Trust’s portfolio, it’s a shame it’s not celebrated more - there’s more meaningful history there than most stately homes.
When we arrived we were taken by the satnav into the wrong car park. We were met by a lovely lady who was very patient, and let us park there as my wife is a blue badge holder.
On entry the lady explained the layout of the building and gave us an ipad like device that allows you to see information by scanning orange spots around the facility.
The walk around the workhouse was very interesting, well laid out with lots of information.
Staff was fantastic throughout and we finished in the cafe with a toasted sandwich and the best cheese scone I have ever tasted!

This is a great place to visit to learn about the history of the workhouse and those unfortunate souls who had no choice but to enter these places in years gone by.
The National Trust has renovated the workhouse and infirmary very sympathetically, and in a way which shows what it would have been like for inmates back in the day. Interesting that it was still used to house families in the 1970s.
The volunteers are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and I'd like to say a special thank you to Penny who helped bring the history of the place to life for us.
The café serves delicious coffees, scones and cakes, plus a range of other produce. Overall, a very enjoyable few hours were spent in this fabulous place.
Really interesting day out, to see how the inmates lived and worked in this huge place is fascinating. Their individual stories are very poignant.
The staff were lovely and very knowledgeable and there's a great cafe with teas, coffee's and soft drinks plus lite bites, cakes and pastries etc.
We had a guided tour at the start with a period dressed staff member around the outside of the building which was a great introduction to our most interesting day out.. Well done to everyone involved in keeping this historic place alive.. 👍

Lots of rooms to explore and you really got the feeling of what it was like for people who had to go there. Very humbling experience and the National Trust have done an amazing job of renovating it but keeping it as it should be!! Really good how they kept some of the rooms as it would have been in 1970's as well .
The infirmary was fascinating too and the knitted hospital was fantastic!!
Very well worth a visit to experience everything.

Great day out highly recommend the outdoor tour brings history to life. Great staff, nice cafe. Even the children liked to learn about the history and how privileged we are now.
Definitely one of the best national trust locations I have been to. Explains so much about the way of life in the Workhouse and there's actors doing all sorts of activities as well. The only thing that could make this better is if there were an easier way to get there without a car.
A break from the NT stately homes, the Workhouse is a wonderful museum, bringing to life the conditions of an old Victorian Workshop.
Incredibly stark inside, there is a lot of information as you wander around to set the scene. (There are quite a few steps)

This was a very pleasant surprise. We were in the process of visiting the workhouse but decided to give the local church a look and it turned out that this village has a cathedral. A minster no less. I had lots of questions that were answered graciously by one of the clerical staff. The interior is breathtakingly beautiful and has two sections that are approximately 100 years apart. It's noticable that the styles of the two are different. The earlier is Norman whist the style of the latter is Gothic and the contrast is quite stark. Durham Cathedral has the same phenomenon.
I had it pointed out to me the classic builders mistake of starting from two ends and working your way in. A careful observation of the roof shows the attempt to obfuscate the error. The stained glass windows are spectacular and contain two styles of origin which is quite novel. The top teir is original and English but the bottom is French and depicts the people of Paris in the time of Marie Antoinette. How it obtained the glass was I'm told a donation from a very unlikely source. If you want to know then visit and all will be revealed. And absolute gem in the middle of nowhere. Completely unspoilt.
A pretty, large church with a friendly and very welcoming team. It was the best welcoming I have ever had from a church so I was really impressed. The church garden is truly beautiful too and well worth looking around. I could spend some time in there easily and would love a better look around (unfortunately for me they had an event about to start soon but I still got a quick look around thanks to the really friendly staff). I must say that the whole of Southwell was lovely and the people that lived there all seemed really friendly. I'm really glad I visited the area.
This place was surprising, and we actually caught a lady who filled us in on some of the history of the church. I love chatting with local guides and getting the inside scope of a place.
Historian buffs would love this place, and I can just say well worth a visit.
Southwell Minster as it is best known is Grade 1 listed and actually a Cathedral for the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham too and what a splendid place it is . The stone carvings here to my unprofessional eye are remarkably well preserved something to do with it being refounded in 1543 saved it from damage . The earliest church on the site was founded by Paulinus Archbishop of York in 627 . My favourite King , King Eadwig granted land to Bishop Oskytel in 956 who established a Minster Church here . There are many things to see all round this marvellous place . A magnificent Crucifix gazes down on you from the ceiling and I loved the metal stations of the cross . One carved figure head love him or loath him resembles President Trump it is said , I could see a likeness . There are some superb stained glass windows which as with many alter the atmosphere with the time of day . The guides are great very friendly and knowledgeable. You can see the lit up remains of the old floor covered by glass . A thoroughly enjoyable visit in the very picturesque setting of Southwell.

Go to the gift shop outside the Minster for your trinkets there is a better selection.
Fantastic minster, free to enter, lots of volunteers so keen to tell you about the place. It has such history and interesting artwork. They also allow well behaved dogs inside which was a relief on a wet day. The garden behind are also lovely and tranquil. There is a refectory on site too (I didn’t visit).
Such a beautiful setting. Stopped off as was passing through Southwell. Staff were super friendly and informative. Minister itself was stunning as is the rest of the town. Then discovered the hidden gardens at the back. Over all makes for a wonderful half day trip out and all free short of a donation to the minister.
What a beautiful building clean outdoors we'll kept place. While walking around the building we bumped into a nice lady invited us in to have a look around. Would recommend anyone go take a look if around southwell way. You won't regret it.
What a stunning cathedral!! (And so quiet too.) An exquisite Norman nave backed up by some stupendous wood and stone carvings mean this is one cathedral not to be missed. Another delight next door is the Bishop's Palace and Great Hall. Sensitively restored you get a great feeling of history as you enter the historic State Chamber.
This is now perhaps my favourite UK cathedral and a worthy 5 stars! Very highly recommended.
We spent a wonderful day touring this beautiful village and when we came across the Minster It was so beautiful that we decided to go inside. This building is simply stunning and an architectural masterpiece. An old friend of mine always taught me to always look up and this is one of those places you definitely want to do that.
I'm going to be honest that I do not believe so to say, but I can still respect the beauty of this place and the work that went into it. And I also respect the people that do believe. I also believe in certain aspects of religion such as living a moral lifestyle. What I'm trying to say is regardless of your beliefs This is a beautiful building that history has preserved and is well worth your time to appreciate and admire.
This is a lovely building on a wonderful site. Internally I found its layout unusual, the high alter being completely separated from the main body of the church by a beautiful stone screen: it was as if one section was for clergy only. Very obviously musical events regularly took place there. I enjoyed my visit.
Truly stunning, beautifully situated with on road parking to the front and a public carpark just across the road to one side.
I have visited many times over the years, for events, funerals or just to soak up the atmosphere.
Each time I visit I spot something new, whilst there explore the beautiful town of Southwell.
A thoroughly enjoyable visit. The architecture, stained glass windows and acoustics are truly magnificent. We were lucky enough to be treated to a choir practice before an evening performance and the orchestra and singing just resonanted throughout my body. The sun was just beginning to set and was pouring through the stained glass windows lighting up the christ hanging from the ceiling adding to the special Christmas treat. Well worth a visit, already planning our next visit!
Beautiful historical building, definitely worth a visit it'll your ever in the area.
Attended a nighttime play. Fantastic surroundings, both day or night. The gardens around the back of the Minster are beautiful and the interior is stunning.
Wrap up warm if attending any night event, due to the nature of the building it must be impossible to get heating throughout.
Beautiful Southwell Minster. The choir was practicing for evening song and they sounded wonderful. Beautiful stain glass window. Lots of information available. Highly recommend a visit.
Drove through to go to the nearby Workhouse. Came back for lunch and a walk. Amazing and beautiful Cathedral. If passing you must stop for a while.
A stunning space: Norman architecture, with some Anglo-Saxon/Roman details. Don't miss the famous Leaves of Southwell in the chapter house, and the misericordia & individual carved bench ends with foliage & fauna. A shame so few people know about it, it's an absolute peach. Don't miss the archbishop's palace next door.
Beautiful and interesting minster and adjoining grounds/ garden and buildings .Free to enter but donations both welcome and needed for upkeep . Although events such as tribute concerts require paid tickets Clean , information points well set out, detailing the history , Staff and volunteers very friendly and knowledgeable and open to questions . Situated in centre of Southwell so handy for shops and eating/ drinking establishments. Parking nearby and most areas wheelchair accessible. We love to visit here

A 3 minute walk from town centre.
A beautiful place to visit alone or with adults alike and children. Lots of green open spaces. Free to enter and walk around the grounds. A fascinating place if you are interested in the history of Newark-on-Trent. From the knights templars being held in the castles dungeons to king John from the Robin Hood era having lived and died here. Something interesting for everyone. Even a beautiful place to sit and reflect. From the castle you can walk along the river Trent in either direction. Stunning scenery. Lots if different events take place here over the course of a year.
We had all four season in one day but still enjoyed the Newark Castle! A decent walk from the car park & crossing the river bit gives you a great opportunity to view the castle ruins from all angles. And the view when you got up there was well worth it
It wasn't such a lovely day weatherwise but seeing the castle was nice and the gardens and the old qauint buildings around Newark .
Lovely place. Visited with family for an afternoon walk. Unfortunately couldn’t visit the castle as it was closed for the festival. Affordable car park prices, just 5 min walk from the City Centre.
Lovely castle ruin with lots of history. It's free to wander round the grounds and enjoy it and it's located within the city so it's easy to get too
I visited my relatives in Nottingham and had lunch at their new home. They took us to Newark Castle & Gardens.
At first, I thought it would be like other tourist attractions, with ruins and rubble, but it was not like that at all. The scenery was even more beautiful than I had imagined. There is a canal outside the castle walls, and there is a lock to control the water level for the boats to pass through. There wasn't much to see in the castle, but walking around and relaxing in the park was very comfortable.

Went for a walk around a river Trent ,very pleasant ,quiet and not busy - understandable for this time of year. Muddy ground around castle ,but a beautiful scenery. I noticed heavy machinery on the castles ground so I am guessing the are preparing for the spring/summer season
We visited to take part in a medieval event. It was well organised with plenty of activities, the kids loved it. Some parts of the castle were open like the tower and dungeons
Not much left from this castle, just one wall along river Trent.
Garden is also relatively small. Anyway if you will have spare several minutes it is worth seeing it.
Well worth a visit. Historic market Square. Lots of local history.

In a nutshell..... it's just a wonderful romantic place to be with anyone really! Looking at the old ruins reminds you of how things used to be back in the day! Just a marvellous place full of history! Best thing is.... it's free to walk around. 😉👍

Ps there are little secret rooms when you look around the place....but they are locked off to the public unless you have a guided tour.😉👍
Can see the castle walls from far. It takes no more than 3 minutes walking in the park itself, but you can always walk along the river that is in the castle area and enjoy looking at the beautiful scenery.
Rich history and a beautiful setting. It was a lot of fun to explore, especially the fortress ruins and the walk along the canal locks.

Great museum. Incredible in the sunshine. My husband had a great time. We both enjoyed a drink and sausage roll in the sunshine amongst the planes. The gardens there are incredible too, well looked after. We even left with some purchases from the shop.
Great air museum with a wide variety of aircraft to look at both outside and in two hangars. Its best to have some pound coins on you when you visit as if you're lucky the volunteers will occasionally give tours of craft and allow you inside cockpits for a small donation. Nice little cafe too serving a good cup of tea and a little gift shop.
A great visit, staff are friendly and helpful.
One great guy who is a volunteer, he told us about the different types of aircraft guns and the ammunition that's used.
Plenty to read and look at, not much for interaction for the younger kiddies, but the shop have plenty of toys for them 😉
The volcun is a welcome site as you arrive, awesome site to see.
Nice lad on the Reception. It was a quick visit on a wet and windy day, 27/12/22, £10 adult entry which is well worth it to try and keep museums going! Cafe on the grounds but didn't get time to use it, nice gift shop around Reception, with 'pocket money' gifts. Definitely visit again when the weather is better!
Had a great time with my 2 year old son today. Huge selection of aircraft to look at and loads of info around the site which was very informative. Highly rate it here for a great trip out with kids that love aviation. Service was very good, my son says thank you again for his toy aeroplane 😊
First visit and I was amazed that this remote museum had so much to offer.
Great selection of aircraft, outside and inside 2 hangars, really good flow the the site, outside displays were clean and interesting.
Cafe was great and really nice food as reasonable prices.

Amazing little known gem. Great independent air museum. Displays are informative and laid out well. Nice cafe tops it off. Not forgetting it has a Vulcan just as you go in plus a Shackleton that you can walk through. A well presented 2-3 hour visit.

Plenty to see and do. I think it's mainly about research and development aircraft and there's some real beauty's.
Everything is on one level, so ok for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
There's a souvenir shop, which has lots of choice with the exception of diecast. There was a few Corgi, but that was all.
Great place for all the family. Well worth a visit. Entrance for adults is currently £10.
What a great place to visit. The volunteers do an immaculate job on keeping this place neat and tidy and are always willing to stop and talk with people. The cafe had lovely people running it and the food was great especially the cakes.... Even if you don't like planes it is still interesting to look around and I would say give yourself a couple of hours to go around. Had a lovely visit today so thanks to all the volunteers.
Absolutely excellent air museum, lots of well preserved aircraft. Plenty of space so photography is good, lovely cafe for food and drink at reasonable prices. Access easy from the A46 / A17 services for fuel nearby.
What an amazing place so much to see as well as learn great day out, the grounds and exhibitions are beautifully presented. Lovely little cafe and shop not over priced with plenty of variety as well. All run by very friendly and welcoming staff 😊

What an absolutely superb museum of aircraft and memorabilia from all ages set in wonderful grounds.
This was our first visit from South Wales and it won’t be our last.
From our greeting on reception to the superb volunteers and their knowledge this is a fabulous day out for all ages.
(And the tea and cakes in the cafe were wonderful as well)
Had a grand day here wandering around the exhibitions. Most of the collection is either outdoors or in two principal hangers. There is not much in terms of an interactive experience but plenty to see. There are some additional charges to enter specific aircraft which are not included in the entrance fee. Still overall good value foe money if you like aeroplanes. There is a cafe on site.
You can spend a nice couple of hours here with younger children, but probably not the best place to take a teenager unless they happen to be plane enthusiasts! The Vulcan was definitely the highlight, and there were some interesting exhibits for grown ups. The café was definitely worth visiting, serving delicious cakes and tasty coffee.
Newark Air Museum is a great Cold War museum with two hangars packed with aircraft and many external exhibits.
On the day we visited the Vulcan Bomber was open for tours, our guide was a Vulcan crewman and gave an insight into their operations. On my previous visit the Shackleton was open, but it appears that it is presently undergoing renovation. They've also upgraded their cafe since my last visit, the facilities are excellent. Did I mention that they also have a great model and book shop, well worthy of a peruse.
Fantastic museum and well worth a visit. So many great examples of aviation history on display here and a nice mix of inside and outside exhibits.

Lovely afternoon at the Museum with my Dad & SMum. Surprised at the amount of actual aircraft. 12yr old son loved the tour & talk on the Vulcan with the actual pilot! Highly recommended & will visit again

I have been a couple of times and I must admit to being a tad disappointed. There is so much history in Newark and there are some interesting pieces in the museum, but for me it just didn't come to life.
On a positive note, there is a good dressing up box to keep children and some adults entertained.
A great museum in a nice location. You need about and hour and a half to get round it. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable.
A great place to visit, very informative friendly staff
I'm in two minds how to rate this. There is a broad overview of the British Civil Wars of the 1640s (and to give credit it's good they use this terminology) but there is actually relatively little artefact wise. You could easily cover the exhibits within an hour. There are volunteer/re-enactors floating about who are helpful and informed. As a jump off point for the town Civil War trail it's worthwhile including but not necessarily as a standalone visit. If you already have any insight into the period you are not likely to learn much new and there are some gaps.

Good museum. We had downloaded the audio tour to our phones in advance and that was good. Enjoyed the film. There was a great practical talk on how to load and fire a matchload musket. Nice friendly staff.
Great little museum for all ages. My grandson and I have been several times. Free entry for Newark and Sherwood residents. 4 stars rather than 5 because several of the interactive tables weren't working - given that its the school holidays they really were essential to young people getting the most out of the visit. Even the 20 min cinema show was shut ! Always clean and we'll displayed, history is well explained. Generally there's a separate display upstairs. Toilet facilities great. Cafe in the same building, as well as visitor information displays , children's activities often on. Parking nearby (car park fees).
Fantastic museum, high volume of information and artifacts from the wars. Plenty of children's activities from colouring, to playing dress up and toys. The team are extremely friendly and have made a great effort for entertainment for all.
Today we went as part of a home Education group to do a workshop with Donna. Her energy and enthusiasm was exceptional. The interactive armour dress up was great!
This place is an amazing learning resource!
It was also brilliant to see the resident artist Vanessa Stones Artist on the top floor where our children did some craft houses and put them together.
A very great addition to Newark right on our doorstep. First time we have been and looking forward to return for family day on Saturday and spend more time exploring the other three floors we didn't have time to visit!

This is an interesting museum with lots of artefacts and displays about the Civil War and the history of Newark.
The information is clear in most areas. However, the film was very disappointing. It looked to be an interesting film but I am deaf and the film did not have subtitles so l was not able to understand what was happening.
There is a lift to other parts of the exhibition.
The staff were friendly. There is a café and there is a payable car park nearby.
Really worthwhile visit to get a good understanding of the English Civil War and also the importance of Newark. Good for families and those with an interest in the Civil War. Great welcome and well laid out. Palace Theatre cafe accessible from the museum.

10/10 - the most amazing wedding venue - staff are incredibly helpful, and the venue itself is stunning. Kim Larking the weddings coordinator was lovely and made the whole process incredibly easy for us. The staff on site on the day were attentive and made sure our day was perfect. We had our Hindu ceremony for 200 guests in 1 of the rooms followed by our reception for 300 guests in the great hall which is gorgeous. I cannot recommend the venue enough since it has been taken over by new owners! Absolutely beautiful!
A beautiful, very historic, and amazing picturus location.
This place looks stunning from every angle. There is so much to explore. We went on a walking trail and came across some very very old statues, church & graveyard.
There is a beautiful cricket pitch as you enter with plenty of parking spaces.
The staff are so welcoming and kind. The inside of the building is very original. All features have been kept in good condition and preserved.

We went for a look around the hall today and we were shown around by Kim who was extremely helpful and a wealth of knowledge about the hall. What a great place for a wedding really unusual and steeped in history highly recommendable.
Really enjoyed our visit to watch Quuen tribute. Venue is amazing. Staff were first class and really worked hard to make this a special occasion. They really succeeded and we would definitely return. We had a 3 course meal, which was included with the price and again, it was first class, keep up your good work, every staff member was an asset to the company

I have visited Kelham Hall on a few occasions now, manly as a wedding supplier attending wedding fairs or dropping off goods for weddings.
Kelham Hall it's self is a stunning building with very well maintained grounds, on a sunny day no matter where you look you are faced with beauty, wether its from stunning architecture or well landscaped grounds, this place is a photographers dream.
Inside the building is just as impressive with large, high ceiling rooms and a stunning main hall. And some very impressive brickwork.
The facilities are excellent and the staff always seem well organised and efficient.
Absolutely brilliant fun. The game started as soon as you entered and the Murder One team did a mezmerising job of acting and drip feeding you information, clues and evidence. So cleverly done!
The food was delicious, arrived in time with each part of the investigation, hot and beautifully presented yes. A fun, unforgettable evening. Would definitely come again. Thank you.
Attended the Spanish banquet evening here recently on a beautiful Summers evening. Staff were so helpful and genuinely went out of their way. Delicious, plentiful food and a relaxed ambience made for an excellent evening.

Very calming, peaceful place to visit. We have been twice now and wander the garden to sit in shelters a chat quietly. The gardens are well laid out and clean, very well planted and there are very good photo opportunities for something different.
I absolutely love this place! Found it by accident 3 years ago. It's so tranquil. The flowers and trees are remarkable and the coy carp are huge. Very well maintained and live friendly host. The tearooms were open the first time we went and the owner was baking his scones. We just had to have one with jam and cream and a pot of Chinese tea. But unfortunately due to covid the tearooms were closed this visit.
Very beautiful, and very unique japanese garden. I was surprised honestly. It looks from aside a not small place and kinda hidden. But when you go inside you will be surprised. They have very unique crystal room which is astonishing, plus all kinds small beautiful details inside of the garden like: small fish ponds, statues of buddha, exotic plants and trees... and you can feel very calming, and positive, clean energy all around it. Highly recommending. Price is very fair for adult only 7 pounds.
A lovely tranquil place to visit. We've visited in the spring as well when the foliage also has wonderful colour. It really is a work of dedication and love. It always feels very tranquil and calming.

Lovely hidden gem. At first glance it doesn't appear to be very big, but the garden goes further back than we thought. I would advise going nearer opening time as it starts to get busier around 11.30-12. Wear suitable footwear as the paths are mostly stepping stones so this place isn't suitable for small children or wheelchairs.

A hidden gem. Almost looks like a private driveway not too obvious from the main road. Really nice and open garden centre with an excellent array of trees and shrubs in particular. This is the only place we've been able to find an oak tree. Really cute shop with an array of trinkets, preserves and a traditional pick and mix. Really nice cafe too with plenty of room both indoors and outdoors. Will definitely be visiting again. Worth the drive.
I always find beautiful plants here and often more unusual ones. Staff are lovely and super helpful and there's a great little cafe. The downside is, I always spend too much! 😂. They also have a loyalty card scheme. What's not to like!

Really friendly team both in the cafe and in the garden centre. I went with my 92 year old mum and we really liked it there. We shared cheese on toast and a cheesecake with 2 lovely coffees. Plus you can still get a bacon or sausage cob outside of breakfast times which in my opinion is rare but a great idea for smaller appetites. Thanks
I took my boss there and we both loved it. We had food in the restaurant which was very tasty and reasonably priced. We purchased some plants and commented on how fresh and lovely they all looked.

This place was lovely, plant prices was good. Either 3 for £9.00 I was looking for starts which was reasonably to buy. As usual I spent more than my budget. The staff was also very nice lunch 2 for the price of £17. Can't remember the pence but not too much.
Hollybeck is a great place to go for house plants and succulents/cacti, for reasonable and even sometimes cheap prices. Definitely recommend. :) The staff are also friendly too! I’ve been to the café (only once) but I thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink. The hot chocolate was great.

Hollybeck is a nice garden centre.
It has a wide variety of pots, plants, bushes, seeds and trees. It also sells garden tools and other gardening accessories.
There is a shop that also sells books Bath bombs and other gift type goods.
The Tea rooms are very nice, if you like cake there is a large selection to choose from and you can also get a very good cup of coffee as well.
Parking is very easy, there is a large car park with loads of space.
We went for some seeds but they were not in stock. We were too early.
We had a bacon cob, fruit juice and a coffee. Good service. 😊
We were given a 10% card off to use at the shop.
I bought some items and made use of the discount.
There was plenty of choice in the shop. It is well worth a visit.

Popped in when driving past at the weekend, never visited before. Decent selection of plants, well organised but some of the paths are quite narrow, saw quite a few people in traffic jams with their trollies which was amusing.

Attended here after a recommendation from a friend and wasn't disappointed, had a meal which was good but the garden centre was very impressive. My mum spent far too much money and will be returning with friends as she commented the prices were very good.
Visited with my husband who uses a mobility scooter - disabled boys all full but found a suitable one elsewhere. The place is very well stocked but occasionally difficult for the scooter to navigate. Csfe not very disabled friendly as not much room to manoeuvre. Was told he could leave scooter out if we wanted to go inside - he's disabled - can hardly walk - no stick and toilets although adapted for disabilities were too far for him to walk. Otherwise food was excellent and not too long to wait considering they were busy

Have purchased plants & pots, & items in the shop, but the Topiary tea room is a favourite.
The loyalty card is an added bonus.
Hard one to rate, is it the really good staff in the Topiary, or the really knowledgeable garden side staff? Is the food in the Topiary or the vast range of well cared for plants? So I have to make a decision now, I'll call it a draw, they are both equally excellent. Their service is a credit to my waistline as well as my garden!!

A lovely garden centre just outside of Southwell. Great selection of plants that always look in tip top condition. Nice little tea room with selection of very tasty cakes. For the little ones it's worth visiting the wildlife lakes at the back. We always find a little trinket or two there. Can be a little pricey though.
A visit to the Swan Sanctuary here with my grandson. Always a good visit, although a chilly day, still good to be out. Lots of rescue water birds here. All seemed to be hungry, soon having eaten the bird seed we took. A really lovely way to spend an hour or so. My grandson loves the water feature going across the lake - and it gives him something to play with. £3 an adult, children free. You don't get much these days for £3 !! The peacocks were particularly 'friendly' !!
Had a lovely couple of hours here 09/08/2023, It was my birthday and fancied doing something a little different. It was so peaceful and relaxing just being surrounded by wonderful wildlife. Highly recommended for a couple of hours of peace and quiet.

Very tidy and a touch of care all through the plants and pots. Love to pass time here. Plants are a tad expensive but the quality of plants are remarkable. Swan sanctuary is eye soothing. Love this garden centre. One of the best around.

Lovely steak and ale pie dinner at the cafe(with plenty of steak in it). My missus loved it Cooked to perfection and well worth the money. It did look delicious I must admit but she never saved any for me as I was scrimping and only had a flat white!
The garden centre is excellent and well designed and organised. Plants are very healthy. Items more expensive than other garden centres but quality products.
Then we had a walk round the swan sanctuary. Peacocks,swans and varieties of ducks. Great value at £3 for adults .
In all a lovely three hour visit and the staff were very friendly.

We love this place. Great selection of plants, some more unusual varieties as well as more established plants (so yes they are more expensive than other garden centres). Good selection of fruit trees (and other trees), roses, clematis, wisteria, acer, hydrangea, buddleia magnolias plus much more. Lots of pots, including good selection of Heritage Garden. Beautiful bedding plants. The staff are knowledgeable and passionate about their plants.

Good roast dinner on Sunday too but would recommend booking. The swan sanctuary is small but nice for a little walk or to feed the ducks if you have small ones.

Absolutely love going to the tea rooms at reg taylors. We go there for all our special occasions, birthdays etc. We've been going for a number of years now, and we have never once had a bad experience. The meals are presented beautifully and always taste delicious. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. Although not the cheapest place you could go, it never disappoints. We would never go anywhere else.
The garden centre is lovely too, the plants always look healthy and well looked after.
Absolutely the best and poshest Garden Centre I’ve ever been to, amazing selection of seeds, plants, trees, pots and everything in between. Amazing advice from the staff. Also a nice cafe with great selection of cakes and a beautiful interior section with stunning artificial flowers.
There is also a nice walk round the swan sanctuary for a small worthwhile fee.

Walk to the bottom and you can visit the Swan sanctuary which is a gorgeous walk around the ponds and you get to feed the ducks and the chickens etc. Very peaceful!

There's a nice little cafe although it's rather expensive but do very nice tea and scones. Definitely worth visiting ❤️
Lovely garden Center woww what a selection and it’s very posh. So many green houses to look in. The swan sanctuary well all I can say is it needs renaming to bird sanctuary as we only spotted two swans. And hundreds of dukes geese. Peacocks. Ect It’s £3 each to get in and a bag of food is £1. The garden Center is free there is a lovely cafe you could Easley kill 3-4 hours here.

Great evening racing I was there as an owner in the 2nd race friendly helpful staff who quickly noticed that I used a walking stick couldn’t be more helpful will be back shame about the infrequent train service that stops at Rolleston just outside the course but that is beyond the racecourses control

The Owners lounge has moved to the far end of the upstairs, all facilities are great. 1 of 2 coffee machines didn't work but thats only a minor inconvenience, and who wants coffee anyway when you get champagne in the winning connections room. Beers are reasonably priced however it is cashless. Easily accessible track with 2 train stations within walking distance.

Given that the racecourse is undergoing refurbishment due to last years floods we were thoroughlyy pleased with or Restaurant Raceday Package. The 3 coursr meal was excellent and we were looked after by our waiter Tom. The accessibility from the restaurant to the main stand is just through some double doors where you get an excellent view of the course and winning line. Great coursr with efficient staff. It was so good we went back the next day.

I arrived at Southwell racecourse and I'd just had my windscreen wiper blades replaced at a garage. However 260 miles from home the smaller blade came off while I was driving in heavy rain and the larger one looked very wobbly indeed. John in the car park said he would look at them and said both were loose and he fitted them properly in under a minute. What a hero. Please do thank him again.
Well, what a con, mis sold a product. On the website it stated that is was £15 entrance fee however was £18 on arrival. If this was an online offer only it should have been stated.
The website also advertised a circus which was basically a play mat with hula hoops and spinning plates. The Fun fair was 4 rides that went round in circles, all did the exact same thing and catered for the age group 2-6years max only.
For 4 burgers and 3 cans of Pepsi it cost approx £36.
All in all cost £91 to watch 2 races, 2 bored children aged 9 and 14 and have a wasted journey.
It seems like it was advertised to draw people in on a bank holiday weekend so they can get more money from booze and gambling to subsidise the poor attendances at the race course throughout the year.

A big church in the main town centre. Toilets advertised though they were not open when I went in. Wheelchair/pushchair accessible via ramps. There looked to be a cafe and there was some people sat at the tables, I couldn’t tell if it was open as looked very dark in the corner where the cafe is, could benefit from some lighting if possible though I know the church already costs £550 a day to keep open & maintained.
They are operating a children’s coat drive there also which is lovely to see and I hope it helps those struggling to keep their children warm. You can light a candle for 20p and they have some guides available.

Visit the church on Monday afternoon for FREE tea, cake, chat and company. Lovely place steeped in history ready to be discovered.

Well worth a visit
What a wonderful gem in the middle of Newark. No matter where you are in the town, you can't get lost as you just have to look up to see the iconic spire. This church houses some wonderful examples of medieval stained glass and is well worth a visit. Throughout the year, they host different events. Please don't forget to leave donations if you visit as the church is raising funds to repair their roof.
A really magnificent Gothic/Romanesque church. It was built in 12 Century but pieces were added up to the 15th Century. Restoration in the 19th century changed some aspects of the building but does not diminish its brilliance. It is cathedral-like in its size and decoration but is "only" a parish church. Well worth a visit. With plenty to explore and photograph. The tower is currently closed to the public but there is still plenty to see.
This is a HUGE building. Great historically but pretty hard to worship in I would think. The links with the English Civil War are many, significant and interesting.
This is a magnificent church. A minor Cathedral in proportions. With one of the very tallest spires in England. Set behind the spacious Georgian Market square (south of the church) with large gardens to the north.
Present vicar, David, delivers interesting sermons that may challenge 'pedestrian'-churchgoers.And why not? Strong and competent choir, large set of bells rung regularly. A gem of a building in this riverside town known traditionally as the Gate to the North.
Magnificent , very tall architecture. Unfortunately it was closed at the time of our visit. Hopefully will be able to visit it next time.

What a great little theatre. Reasonably priced. Very comfortable seats. A great performance by 'Buddy Holly and the Cricketers'. I'll be looking for other shows for the future!
Lovely venue. Very cozy, very quiant.
Not quite a theatre royal.... Or major player, but nothing to grumble about whilst sitting in the stalls. Row D.
Went to watch 'Dirty Dusting' on Thursday night!
The Perfomance.......also 5☆. Cunningly worded and very good comic timing. A 'reet good chortle.
The Palace.......after xx many years still looks fabulous after being refurbished.
Seats were comfy and the whole place made you glad to experience it. The lounge area is quite crowded before the performance and during the intermission (that word tells you just how old I am 😉) but that just adds to the ambiance. Given how busy it was, the bar and cafe serveries were pretty efficient.
All staff we met were fab and helpful. Pretty sure most of them will be involved with the Palace in other ways to help ensure its smooth running and continued success.
Really enjoyed the night and look forward to going back.
Whether you're local or not, give the Palace a try. It's a great place with dedicated people and some really interesting performances (and no, I'm not a member, just love 'real' things like this 👍😁).
Think Floyd - tribute show. Lovely venue, with fabulous volunteers. Sadly it wasn't full, we were upstairs with only a few others, but, of course, in this climate, we saw it as an advantage !! Such a lovely theatre which we really must support as much as possible. Book a show ....
Went to see Circus of Horrors. Had a really great time, the show was amazing! However the venue was great too, bar had a big selection of well priced drinks and all the staff were helpful and friendly. The amenities looked new and were kept clean. Overall the place wasn't huge but I prefer smaller audiences, would definitely recommend
This is a nice place which is kept clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The seats are comfortable with a good view of the stage. There is a bar with seating and merchandise was available. There is an entrance shared with the war museum. We used the car park over the road. A very enjoyable experience.
Beer prices little too much..£4 for a small bottle of Bud, (which is expected)and my wife can only drink it as a top, and they wanted £1.80 for the lemonade..(not expected)
Allowed smoking right outside the main foyer doors and at the interval it filled the theatre with the smell of smoke.
Other than the points made above the venue is good and staff helpful .
We've only been here once, but we had a nice evening here a couple of weeks ago. The theatre has a surprisingly modern feel and the foyer and bar areas seem welcoming and popular. The stewards were welcoming and helpful.
Great show, however it was spoilt, unfortunately as the theatre has some of the worst seating I have ever seen. They are so small and cramped. The arm rests are hard wood and come halfway down so extremely uncomfortable.
You actually feel like you are sat on top of the next person. No leg room at all. My feet were hanging over the edge under the seat in front, and I am not even very tall. When other people came in to sit on the same row there wasn't even enough space for them to pass, you have to stand up and squeeze into the seat in it's upright position, and even then, they have to push past.
It is the first time visiting and very off putting.
I would hate to think how difficult it would be for larger or taller people. ( even if you are average height and sized it's a real. Struggle!)
It is such a shame they feel the need to cram you in I would prefer more room and pay a little more. The other customers around us were saying the exact same thing.
Definitely wouldn't recommend if you were going to a lengthy show, or one you wanted to move about at, like a musical performance.
The palace theatre is a lovely little Theatre, with great staff working the doors, bar/food areas and Theatre entry ticket/doors.
However on our last visit the sound quality was off, it was way too loud (couldn't hear the singers) and the lighting awful (blinding the audience).
It's unfortunate that this theatre doesn't have the funding or ability to attract too many decent performers, plays, shows etc.
We love the Theatre in general and would love to visit more if the calibre of shows was better.
Lovely theatre. Went to see Trextasy last night. The band were fantastic as usual !! My first time at this theatre. Unfortunately my experience was tainted by a rather over zealous female volunteer who told me off for using my phone to take a picture of the show & people dancing (as i had been told this was not allowed if it obscures the view of others). I witnessed several other people taking pictures & videos during the performance & they were not reproached for this. I understand that this may not be allowed, however I have never had this
experience before at any other show of this kind at any other venue. I am aware the venue is seated however, many people were dancing in the ground floor area during both halves of the show but upstairs in the gallery during the first half nobody was doing this so the overall feeling personally for me felt removed from the atmosphere of the show. My ticket was a present so I did not choose the location of the seat. I would not recommend sitting here if you want to experience the full atmosphere of a show.
Most of the staff were lovely, friendly & helpful. A couple of volunteers I would consider to be unsuitable. (Kiljoys).
What a fantastic local theatre.
Went to see Rod Stewart tribute (SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK) Saturday 11/11/23 and what a great performance this was.
The theatre staff are excellent and only too pleased to help.
Yes it was our first time going there we enjoyed the sounds the seats were ok & ambiance was Great to we have booked to see more shows there looking forward to our next meeting take care
I love small theatres, and this is a great venue with a really friendly vibe. Saw Steve Steinman's 'Anything For Love - The Meat Loaf Story' a couple of nights back - absolutely tremendous.
A very warm welcome when we arrived. Enjoyed the show and the woman serving in the upstairs bar was very friendly 👌🏻
Just had evening with other half at palace theatre Newark. What a lovely little theatre well run and some super performances put on. Makes a great evening out. Many thanks to all staff for making it a great place to visit.

Hidden behind Southwell Minster it is easy to miss this little gem. The former Palace of the Archbishop of York dates from the 14th Century and was wrecked during the Civil War.
The Palace's most famous occupant is Cardinal Wolsey, however in 1646
King Charles I is held captive here before his death.
In 1851 Victorian restoration of the Palace begins after which the Minster obtained cathedral status.
Surrounded by beautiful gardens and now the home to the song school, it is certainly worth a visit.
Just ruin and all but inaccessible now but on a sunny day like today, so peaceful and the adjoining garden is a super area to sit and relax.
Abundant amount of historical relevance too.
Just opposite the Minster and worth a look in. Has some ruins in the grounds also, set in amongst the flower beds. Attractive ceilings and has some good stained glass. Not a lot to look at. There is a lift up to the hall.
Built in the 14th and 15th centuries as a residence for the Archbishop of York these walls have seen many famous visitors. Not least of all King Charles 1 held here before being led back to London for execution . Kings from Richard 1 and John to James the first have trod this ground over the years .

If you love clocks, watches and time keeping then this will be an interesting place to visit for you. The guides in every room are helpful and knowledgeable about the clocks in their care. We spent about 1 1/2 hours looking around. At the back of the museum is an independent cafe - The clock house cafe, which serves delicious food.
Small museum but packed with lovely clocks of all ages well worth the £10 entrance fee !
Interesting museum, the volunteers are excellent and engaging. The demo and talk about the speaking clock was brilliant.
Has all kinds of interesting objects of timekeeping. Well worth the entry fee.
Lovely museum. Very nicely kept and the timepieces are wonderful. Recommend listening to the talk about voice clocks.
If you've any interest at all in clocks, watches and time keeping in general, then this is the place for you. Some beautiful exhibits displaying craftsmanship at its best. Only open to the general public on Fridays 11am till 3pm
This is a lovely Museum with lots of time pieces , friendly staff , very pretty setting house and grounds excellent 😀 will be back with American Family 👪
Spent a really pleasant and educational afternoon here on Friday. You don't need to be a clock geek to enjoy it. All the staff were really friendly and passionate, and I learnt a lot about clocks!
Interesting, informative and different. Knowledgeable guides - all clocks modern and antique all housed in a lovely building. A must for people who are interested in clocks and those who enjoy seeing examples of real craftsmanship
About clocks, watches and any other time pieces including TIM -- the talking clock -- 3 generations actually. Find out gems like the first talking clock woman had to have her teeth filed to stop her from whistling on the recording.
Also the expected cafë.

My wife and I went to seek some advice about an old clock that needs repair. We both entered the building via the main entrance, the door was open and there were no signs displayed to indicate they were closed. After a few minutes a woman who I later confirmed to be the manager confronted us in a manner that can at best be described as aggressive informing us they were closed giving us no opportunity to explain why we were there. Her manner upset my wife and we walked out. This person should not be allowed anywhere near the public with this attitude, anyone else would have been courteous. I cannot comment on the museum but I would give it no stars if this is the level of staff that work there.

What a gem. On the first floor (you need to ask to see it) there is an absolutely stunning ballroom. I had no idea and was not expecting anything so magnificent. Designed by John Carr and built in 1776. It has the mayoral offices and the "tiny house". The guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. Gilded columns, "wedgewood" plasterwork and original colouring - restored in the 1980s. Available to hire - stunning!!!
In the attached museum and art gallery see the proclamation chair - and various paraphernalia of the town council. Art displayed from many wonderful artists including William Nicholson and William Caparne.
Not huge, but perfectly formed local museum and art gallery on 2nd floor of the town hall. Accessible by lift or very steep staircase. The town hall is worth a visit in its own right, designed by John Carr in 1776. Staff are brilliant really friendly and knowledgeable. Things for children to do as well. Real gem.

Not the largest but something of an undiscovered gem. We had only gone In to check out the William Nicholson pictures, but the guide ended up giving us a tour of the whole building including the lovely refurbished ballroom and the mayor's regalia room and the narrowest house in Newark. Lots of local artists, and a great view of the Market Place Check it out cos it's all free!
Free tours of the museum and chambers. Both of our guides were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I would recommend going If you have 1.5hrs spare. Also the ball room is huge and the decor looks amazing.
Terrific place to visit for a touch of real civic history with some fine art thrown in as well. Best of all is the magnificent Georgian ballroom - quite stunning, and an unparalleled architectural gem. Civil war coinage struck during the sieges is most interesting. Knowledgeable volunteer guides do an amazing job; thank you!
The most beautiful wedding venue! We had the most wonderful day and are so grateful to the staff for helping it all happen.
Mr friend had a wedding here it was a great venue and staff were so nice and helpful, it was also a beautiful space with a balcony over the square

Played both Admirals and Commanders courses, and both are in great condition despite the amount of rain we've had the past few weeks. Staff are very courteous and helpful. Very well run club
Over the past month I've play both the Admirals and Commander's courses. Both being a good test of golf. The members I came into contact with were very nice people a pleasure to be with. The bar and catering staff looked after us on both our visits with friendly efficient service. Pro-shop is well stocked and reasonable prices, the staff were also very good. I highly recommend a visit by all golfers, they can cater for all.
The course is amazing and it's very challenging. It has some really difficult holes that will push you to your limits. This is one of the best courses Notts by far! The course is very well maintained and has some great features on the green areas.
After such a great round my mood was further improved by the amazing service from Archie the bartender. I've been to a lot of golf clubs in my life, but none have offered me the same level of service as this one. Archie was so friendly and welcoming.
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging round of golf.
Had our wedding reception here recently (after getting married abroad). The staff and the service were incredible and so many of our guests said how amazing all the staff were. The chef was very accommodating and friendly and the food was delicious and great value. Everyone involved took the stress of the planning and it was smooth sailing all the way through! The setting is beautiful and having the outside patio area was perfect, we had so many comments about how lovely the location was. We can't thank Tom, Sharni and all the team enough for assisting us in having a fantasic day celebrations!
Decent set up & only £18 on Golf now. Play it again BUT will take a buggy next time lol
Great setup, two courses to choose from and a golf range. Food is good and reasonably priced. Golf shop has a lot of stock available for you to browse or buy.
Played the Admiral course today in a comp. Some very long and tough holes but I enjoyed it.
There is also a par 3 course if you want to take the kids or if you are thinking of taking up the game and want to start off at a gentle rate. The golf pros are always at hand to give you help or advice.
Club membership is open for both courses. Update, the Admiral course is closed for membership at the moment.
Bit wet at the moment but with 3 courses and a golf range you will get to hit a ball or three.
Nice course with a lot of elevation and decent enough greens……but a lot of the grass on a lot of the holes was bone dry which made things challenging. Sadly we booked as a 2 ball behind an entire golf society of 4 balls so the front 9 took us over 2.5 hours to complete. I know It happens and it’s not the fault of the course…..but there was no warning from the pro shop, which would have been nice as the average delay on each tee was 5 mins. The Range is extremely good value. Bar staff very friendly.
A 9 hole course and an 18 hole cours I prefer the 9 holes. Very interesting with every hole a challenge. While draining and in immaculate condition.
Good layout. Relatively fast and true greens. Nice clubhouse. Wierd buggy path back to car park which I couldn't find!! Nice to get paperwork discount.
