We loved this short route. We did it by road bikes (bad idea, we had to carry them most of the way) but it's a medium difficult path on foot. And the possibility of cooling yourself in the brook is exceptional! Just please take your garbage with you!

Awesome trail along the stream (officially a river) from Benamahoma to El Bosque, about 10 km round trip. The trail is shaded along much of it's route which helps keep it cool even on a hot day (is was 30+ degrees when we walked it but with the shade it was fine). There are some rocky sections and stone stairs so you need to be in reasonable shape but in general an easy trail.

Nice easy walk. Lot's of shade cover. Avoid at the weekends as it can get very busy.

Brilliant walk, about 1hr 30 mins each way. Loads of waterfalls and a really enjoyable few hours in nature. With a nice drink half way.

Great route, but start early to enjoy it on your own! The route indicates that it is 5km each way and takes 2 hours each way. However we completed the 10km in roughly 2h45 and we don't walk fast. We started the route at 8:30am on a Saturday, and I would recommend anyone to do the same. By 11am all the large groups of walkers were out, and that ruins the tranquility, on a Sunday this would be even worse. Start at Benamahoma, walk to El Bosque, have a coffee in the cafeteria at the end of the walk in El Bosque, then head back to Benamahoma and the bar at the end opens about 11:30am.

It is a beautiful site and to be up there in the castle gives you a spectacular view of the entire zahara valley. This is a beautiful site in all of Spain and definitely should be on your bucket list, it is awe inspiring and wonderful.

Staying in the town itself is nothing. Start your climb up to the remains of the 13th-century Moorish castle and you will experience the magic of this place. Amazing views of the Zahara el Gastor reservoir and its turquoise waters. All these valleys and mountains around and the town below. The wind gently chills on a hot day and the silence all around. Fantastic place!

Amazing scenery from the top of the tower. This is a spot full of history and open for further research. You get to visit the homage tower, which is very well conserved. There's plenty of bits of information about the different epochs of the old, disappeared medieval city, and a small interpretation center at the rediscovered ruins of a church. Great experience that requires a lot of slope climbing, so be prepared! The stone pathways are a bit slippery too and there aren't too many handrails, so take care and enjoy one of the most amazing views and historic places in the area.

Loved hiking around here, it's a really pretty place. We stopped here while driving from Seville to Ronda. It was a nice 3-4 hour visit.

This is a must to visit. But be prepared with good walking shoes. The slopes are quite steep, but the tower is well worth the climb. Visit the small modern building on the side of the fortress for some good archeological information. The glass floors will give the children something to talk about. Views are outstanding, and you can see the junction of the three provinces from here. There is only one entry and exit point. So don't look for another. There is an entry fee of 3.5 euros per adults and children are free.

Amazing iberan and roman ruins that tell the ancient history of the region. The experience is great: you can join a 2 hour long guided tour every morning to climb up the area where the old city of Ocuri lays. After a short walk up the mountain, where the necropolis and the old roman pathway are found, you get to an ancient stone wall first built by the iberan people and expanded by the roman people. Then you get into the rest of the city proper: the baths, the forum and several houses and water wells have been discovered already, but there is an amazing amount of ruins that still lay waiting for their time to see the light again. All in all, visiting this place brings the oportunity to picture a small bit of the old ages. Acompanied by our kind guide Isabel, the tales both of the ancient times and of how these ruins were discovered are enlightnening and fun.

Very interesting guided trek up the mountain discovering the Roman town of Ocuri. Isabel is Incredibly knowledgeable and completely dedicated to the continuous archeological development of this site.

Our guide, Inma, spoke excellent English and had a good knowledge of Roman history in the area. The visit was worth it just for her input. Sadly the site was pillaged by its original owner back in the 18th century. However the foundations, some walls and cisterns survive. The mausoleum or Columbarium is, unusually, still intact. Make sure you catch the video interpretation, it puts everything into perspective.

A lovely find. Small site with lots of features remaining. Still pretty rustic - do not expect glitzy signage and slide shows- but a fabulous guide, hand outs in English, with short film at the end of the tour to help imagine what it would have been. Great coffee next door too. Worth booking for a visit.

We tried the circuito termal in this tiny, simple and cozy spa, with jacuzzi, Turkish steam bath and cold showers. It's very unique and the interior is very cute :) The jacuzzi could have been a bit warmer (and I missed a finnish sauna), and the other customers were a bit noisy, but it was wonderful after hiking and hours on the road. The Santa Maria de la Mesa church is a small but beautiful and impressive church in the centre of the historic mountain township setting of Zahara de la Sierra. A pleasant small nature pool has hidden inside the mountain. A side way out of mountain road where is easily skipped. It’s late June and the parking lots are fully occupied! That surprised me for the first time, but soon I understand the reason. Crystal clear cold water with green surroundings and blue sky, how lovely! A little escape for locals, families favorite spot. People laughing, children playing, birds singing... We enjoyed our picnic and swimming in few hours over here.

Lots of shade and breezy when the area around is sweltering hot. Well equipped with a family area, cafe and bar and a restaurant. There’s picnic tables too, which you can reserve at the weekends, and play areas for kids if you have them. This is a cool spring water artificial lake that’s accessible and welcoming. Gorgeous setting.

Quiet little spot in the middle of the mountains. Really good for families with small children. Artificial pond with cold water, perfect for 40 degrees days. Also perfect for a picnic, tables available. There is a snack bar with drinks and ice cream.

I hate being this blunt, but I cant help it here. Without a doubt the worst meal we had in Spain. The tuna salad was inedible: big pieces of tasteless iceberg salad, unripe tomato, canned carrots and beetroot and canned tuna + no dressing. Unforgivably low standard for a restaurant. The mushroom croquettes were so oddly gooey that we couldn't eat them. Pick anywhere else if you care the least about food!

When we were there they had no coffee, no olive oil and no juices! The food was delicious but quite over-priced, and there wasn't much choice open in the rest of the town. The goats cheese was lovely as was the patatas bravas. Felt quite commercial and touristy

Visited after pandamic. It was wonderful experience. Very clean and well serviced. Meal and prices are excellent. The view at sunset could be something magical. The restaurant is located in one of the main streets of Zahara. Terrace is also nice and the atmosphere great. This place is something you should visit in your trip to cadz white villages. The Zahara view from the reservoir at night is a good final point to the visit.
