Lovely cathedral, well worth a visit. Nice refectory so you can stop off for something to eat and drink. Good gift shop too. Make sure to have a look at the clock in the east transept and be sure to visit the chapter house. Recommended.

A very pleasant and enjoyable day out. The afternoon prayers were amazing, and all the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. They do give free tours also which is an added bonus. I would 100% recommend this when visiting Wells and I will definitely be returning.

Fabulous visit to Wells Cathedral and enjoyed the High Places tour (not too many stone spiral steps, I managed well). The building is beautiful and it's almost unbelievable it was built so long ago with just simple hand tools- well done to the carpenters and stone masons of 1175!

Me and my husband went Dec 8th, visiting wells cathedral £8 per adult to go in. The structure of the cathedral was really good and elegant.When i was there looking around, they were students practicing their choir songs. Outside was huge grounds and can take good pictures. The town was only a 5min walk.

Stupendously magnificent cathedral. Frontage covered in carvings, interior awesome architecture. Never seen support structures quite like it. When walking the cloisters, make sure you go right around as there is another garden at the far end.

Beautiful cathedral! Wells is known as the cathedral city, and is also one of the smallest towns in UK. The cathedral itself is very well managed and offers rich history. A must visit! Entry is free, but they do encourage you to donate towards the maintenance of the church.

A beautiful Cathedral and well worth a visit. Donation recommended and advisable when you see the maintenance costs. It was great to see a Cathedral that let's you walk round with your dog.. Otherwise half the party miss out by sitting outside. Doesn't matter if your religious or not, visit if only to stand in awe at the technical skills of the previous generations builders. Absolutely stunning outside and inside. The gardens at the side are also worth a seperate visit.

A nice cathedral for a trip out. 2 hours free parking outside. Got some picturesque graveyard gardens. If you are a book fan would recommend going during the week between 1400 & 1600hrs as the library/reading room are open. Worth the £8pp day admission. Unfortunately did not have time to visit the bishops palace behind (separate admission at £16pp for the year).

Brilliant and quite awe inspiring cathedral. Parts were closed due to a private wedding however the areas we had access to were great. It’s amazing to see the level of maintenance that has been involved in keeping the cathedral in tip top condition. One interesting (and quite incredible fact) was daily the running costs. You can find this as you reach the shop on exit. Very much recommended, especially if you then also head into the town centre and bishop’s palace for more history and amazing gardens.

Absolutely stunning cathedral amazing architecture and stained glass. The clock striking 12 is well worth seeing. I found the volunteers extremely nice and knowledgeable. The cathedral is massive and has a lovely garden. Entry was by donations when we visited but there will be a set fee at the end of the month and I can totally understand why. There is a cafe (but we didn't use it ) and nice clean toilets. A very enjoyable day

Truly one one of the most beautiful cathedrals in England I've visited. Rich in history. Friendly and welcoming staff. Also dog friendly. Went in asook as it opened and we had the cathedral all to ourselves.

Absolutely love coming here, my 3rd visit here. It's so tranquil and the Architecture is incredible. If you come you must walk up the worn stairs and if it is open the chained library which sadly wasn't open this visit though I have been bwfore

A very beautiful cathedral, there isn't any charge to enter but they do ask for a donation for an adult the suggested donation is £8. We'll worth a visit. At the moment the cathedral is hosting a contemporary art display, the artwork was unique.

We have been here during one of our dates visiting Shepton Mallet and Bath. Stunning architecture and an eerie/magic feeling overall. Would definitely recommend.

We visited Wells Cathedral for an evening Vivaldi concert. The Cathedral itself is beautiful and well worth a visit. The concert was beautiful, the musicians were brilliant. If you have the opportunity to attend an concert here would thoroughly recommend.

Wells Cathedral has to be the finest Cathedral I have visited. The exterior is stunning and the interior takes your breath away. The scissor arches alone are fantastic and that's without moving from the door way. Almost impossible to write down all the details but my only suggestion would be to see for yourself.

This cathedral is beautiful and massive, in such a lovely area. So much to see, including an ancient library including christian books/history books all the way from the 1600s. The cathedral houses the second oldest clock in the world, and the oldest working of its kind. It strikes every quarter of an hour. The atmosphere of the cathedral is lovely and quite homely. Private chapel areas open to the public, as well as the charter house. Make sure to check the website for services occurring as some parts of the building may not be accessible eg during worship times. Only one small complaint, we arrived thinking that it would be free to visit as it has been in the past but were not made aware that there is a £8 per person fee, rising to £14 in mid april. A bit of a shock as it did not state on the website nor on google maps. They say those are the recommended prices but the staff seem to urge you into having to pay, not sure if the price we paid was voluntary or required. However overall we had a lovely visit. Includes toilets and a gift shop. May not be suitable for very young children.

We did the 1.5 hour behind the scenes High Parts tour, which was very interesting. Simon & Richard were great tour guides. Highly recommend this tour. The cathedral is beautiful. We had lunch in the Loft Cafe, which was ok, but service to order meals was terribly slow. The gift shop staff were lovely, including Basil, the shop cat who was a counter attendant!

Amazingly beautiful Cathedral. It's huge - quite long. The 24 clock built in 1603 is amazing and chimes every quarter hour. Nice cafe too.

Stunning place, very friendly, very peaceful, off duty cathedral guide on a visit with his own family couldn't help but tell us info about the clock! Easy parking, lovely toilets, no charge just donation, spent much longer there than planned. Wish I lived closer as the concerts advertised look amazing too.

Lovely church from the outside as it was closed the day we visited. Lots of detail has gone into the build of this church back in the day. Got some lovely photos. Will definitely need to visit & see the inside.

Admission on donations. Beautiful cathedral. All the volunteers are really insightful. The library was a highlight for me & I loved how much was open to the public.

Amazing, well kept gardens. A little expensive at £16 per adult but ticket is valid for return visits over a year. We visited on a very hot day but plenty of shade. Lovely peaceful areas. Lots of areas of interest at every turn. Very helpful, friendly staff. Excellent cafe. I thoroughly recommend a visit and will certainly return.

Really enjoyed looking round the gardens especially when the sun is shining. Made use of a free tour to find out more of the history. If we lived closer we would probably visit more often just to sit and enjoy gardens.

Wow. I really wasn't expecting the gardens to be so spectacular! I have been to Wells many times but have never paid to enter the Palace. It's well worth a visit! I attended as part of a group, but will definitely be back on my own with the children. It's absolutely breathtaking as you can see from my photographs. The Palace itself was interesting, lots to see and learn - you could spend all day here so the admission price is worth it, especially when you consider that this includes return visits for a whole year. Thoroughly recommend!

Absolutely stunning!! We've been here before, but never to anything like this, it was a veritable feast for the eyes! And very atmospheric, with Festive music playing via loudspeakers in the background, topped off by some very competent singing by a local male voice choir!! If you're struggling to get into the Festive Spirit, try this experience, it'll certainly help!

Wells is a beautiful location for a day trip, but the Bishops Palace and Gardens is something else. I found the gardens far more impressive personally though, beautiful, peaceful with unbelievably crystal clear waters. Steeped in history it’s a wonderful day out. On-site there is a cafe and within the gardens a play area for children from about age 5 upwards. Once you have purchased a ticket it is valid for the entire year, and we will definitely visit again.

Location is awesome and worth a visit if it's your first trip to Wells. Make sure you find the door in the garden that leads you out to the most and outer gardens. This is where the "Wells" are - the springs that l rise and run down the sides of the streets. The inside is quite interesting but not a lot of artifacts etc

A day trip out for my birthday with my elderly Mum and sister. A great easy walk which allows dogs. The plants are fabulous. Almost prehistoric as the size of some are huge ! Lovely day and made my birthday

One of my favourite places to visit both for the Palace buildings and the exquisite gardens. Allow yourself a good two or three hours as this experience is not to be rushed. They put on a lot of events so check online before you go to see what's happening. Lots of open spaces and a play area for the littlies., and the ducks and swans are always a favourite. There is a cafe on site, but also plenty of places to eat in the Market Square. Highly recommended

Great value for money. Tickets are valid for 1 year which is ideal as to take everything in you need more than one visit. The gardens are fantastic. Saw a swan family was amazing watching the male chase off ducks that got too near the cygnets for his liking. We visited twice this week and will definitely be returning later in the year to see the garden in different seasons. The place is OK with lots of interesting architecture.

Wonderful Wells, and the Bishop's palace in full bloom was very pleasant. Charming nooks and crannies to explore, history to read, sculptures to see, even a play in production. Not only that but beautiful gardens and a play area our boys enjoyed. Only real reason not a 5* was the worry of little people and water, prevented it being an entirely relaxed visit. But that's not the venue's fault.

An exquisite place of calm, beauty and tranquility. Unfortunately, due to filming we could only visit the Chapel and Gardens. This was lovely though. Spring has sprung and the contemplative garden a beautiful idea. If I lived nearby, I would frequently visit.

Wonderful illuminations, what a gem! Had such a lovely festive time in Wells yesterday. A lot of illuminated events elsewhere have horrendous crowds but this one was so peaceful, maybe just caught on a good night but would recommend to anyone. Great food, drink and facilities, friendly staff and the lights were fantastic with really beautiful music. The palace looked stunning and brilliant exhibition by local kids. Not only that can use our pass for a whole year, it's such a lovely place will definitely be back. Took us under an hour journey from Bristol, some might do it faster.

I am not impressed with the gardens and palace. The entry tickets are overpriced. The only good part is the knowledgeable staff that work there. You don’t get to see a lot. The most interesting thing that you can see is natural water springs. The gardens are average. Only small part of bishops palace is accessible. Not worth the money you pay.

So glad we made the trek to Wells! A most charming town. The Bishop's Palace and Gardens are definitely worth the tour. The guides are so helpful (they suggested spots for pictures and took them of my husband and I), and were incredibly knowledgeable. Our guide was descended from one of the Bishops who brought over the beautiful French stained glass. While Cardinal Wolsey never really came there, it was cool to see his name on the wall and his portrait in the palace. The grounds and gardens are so beautiful. There is a nice store and cute coffee truck that offered a wonderful hot chocolate with whipped cream and what is called "chocolate flake" on top that was super tasty. The swans were very pretty, but if you came to see them ring the bell for food around one in the afternoon, good luck. So many people feed them now, they don't bother with the bell! Lol. And beware the pigeons. They aren't shy!

The medieval Bishop's Palace in Wells, home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells, dates from 1210. The beautiful Chapel of the Holy Trinity and St. Mark dates from 1275 and the outer walls, moat and gatehouse were added in the 14thC. In the palace you'll find the golden Coronation Cope used at the coronations of King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II and in the gardens the sculptures of the 'Pilgrim' by the Somerset artist David Backhouse and 'the Weight of Our Sins' by the sculptor Josefina de Vasconcellos. The arboretum area is currently awash with snowdrops and croci!

Absolutely stunning, such a beautiful place to visit. The gardens have been lovingly cherished. They really are a joy to walk round. Lots of little areas to visit and the Abbey itself was a sight to see. Would have been a real joy to see it in its heyday. I d like to go back and see the gardens in early summer. But still a joy in September, as is seeing the cygnets. Also the cathedral is also worth an amble, so much history.

The first houses on this attractive street, close to Wells Cathedral in Somerset, were constructed during the mid 14th century.

This medieval street was built by Bishop Ralph of Shrewsbury and finished c.1348. Apparently it is the "oldest intact medieval street in Europe still used for its original purpose". Vicars’ Close is made up of 27 houses, a chapel, a library, treasury and muniment room (a storage room for historical documents). A dining hall is connected to the Cathedral by a walkway.

Good local produce and Arts and crafts. Always a good turnout as its very successful. Got to get there early for the fresh fish man. Always a cue to buy his great fresh caught fish. Lots of food stalls with a wide variety of goods and flavours. Fresh local flowers too. Every Wednesday and Saturday.

Fantastic market with lots of stalls. Right next to lovely walks around the cathedral, park and countryside. The Parsons Nose sells amazing burgers and the flower stall can’t be beat for quality, price and service. Always enjoy a mooch around!

What a lovely little market, hot and cold food on sale. The aromas in the air are gorgeous. I bought some local cider from the tor cider company.....the vintage is luscious. Brilliant proper market. 👍

Something for everyone at Wells market. Local fruit and veg, flowers and seasonal Holly wreaths at a very good price! Local cheeses to sample. Arts and crafts gifts and collector's antique selection too. Hot food and drinks on offer with a place to sit and enjoy! All in beautiful Wells!

Wells market is excellent. We went in February and thoroughly enjoyed it. Went came back last weekend and it was even better. Lots of great products and amazing food. If we lived closer we’d be going all the time. Lots or reasonably priced parking near by and Union Street car parks has public toilets.

I really loved this place. It was so colourful and vibrant. There was an excellent variety of stalls which sold fresh food. There were also fresh fruit and vegetable stands. There was one lovely stall which was very near the entrance to The Bishop's Palace. The clothing showcased all of the colours of the rainbow. I am far too shy to wear anything that colourful, but I can see the appeal. I also like the fact that the vendors let you look at stuff as opposed to asking several questions so that you feel obligated to buy something. It is an ideal place to spend a few hours. The Town Crier was amazing . It was extremely entertaining to see him.

It's a great experience to see and support local businesses in a beautiful scenery. Many coffee places with some vegan choice around and also a few at the market itself - candles, clothes and food

So glad I put this on my trip itinerary. The quality of food produce is fantastic. Lots of variety of stalls, from flowers, plants and soaps, to clothes, art, cards and crafts. Love it. I had pastys from the photos attached and took them home, lamb and mint and steak and Stilton, to die for!

Normally pretty good, but it is slowly creeping into lower quality/mass produced products. There is still a majority of great stalls, but a small change is noticable

Wells Christmas market, horribly busy, didn't buy a thing,couldn't actually get to any stalls. We were trapped in a sea of people slowly flowing along the path. Could definitely be set out with better access and more space to allow flow. Unlike the terminator.. I won't be back!

Always a pleasure to visit Wells Market, wonderful selection of fresh and ready to eat food, I counted 3 fresh fish stalls, quite unusual for these days. Many stalls selling clothes, jewellery and artisan products, lots of flowers and plants finished off with a walk along the bishops Palace moat and a stroll through the park. Lovely afternoon

First car park to the right up the hill. nice walk .great place to visit and to relax .warning there are height barriers as u go in to gate. Lane to car park is a single tight lane. There's no bins so pls take your rubbish with you.it be a shame if they close this car park if it's because of litter.

Lovely little circular walk with nice views. Could have done with slightly better signage or another map half way round as we got a little disoriented trying to get back to the car. Make sure in wet weather you use appreciate footwear as climbing up the rocks may be slippy in simple trainers. Best to keep dogs on lead after the ascent due to the cliff edges

A walk for the more physically fit and experienced rambler. Not suitable for very small children or people with mobility issues. Dog friendly but must be kept on leads to protect wildlife and for their own safety. Initially the steps down into the woodland are quite steep in areas and can be slippery when wet. At the bottom you will be met by a beautiful broad leaf woodland with a small stream running trough it and lots of wild plants, ferns, berry and animals to spot. We found a wicker sculpture of a bear, but there may be more in other areas of the trails. The walk up trough the gorge is very steep and rocky, walking shoes are a must, and care should be taken as it is uneven and unstable in many places. Once at the top there is a beautiful viewing point over the gorge, making the climb up worth while. Plenty of space to sit and enjoy the view, take photos, catch your breath. (be careful as there are no barriers). The trail back to the carpark loops back down to the woods and up the other side to the carpark. At he top there is a picnic area and some benches to rest on. Also a viewing area back over to the gorge. The carpark is free with a height restriction of 7ft. Next to the car park there is another grassed area to sit and relax plus an information area telling you all about the history of the gorge. On the maps there are a few trails that are coloured, you will notice through the walk, trees are marked with colours to keep you on the right track. No toilets nearby. No place for buying refreshments so take your own. We really enjoyed this trail and will definitely revisit again. Tip: take a camera and binoculars.

Great walk with the kids in the gorge. The climb is not difficult nor long but a bit slippery in places, so hiking boots are highly recommended. Great views on our way down across beautiful meadows. From Wookey Hole it took us 1.5 hours to walk approximately 5km.

The carpark and entrance are free to enter, though there is a height restriction so cars only, a campervan may be to high for access, this Stunningly Beautiful Enchanting natural landscape, be prepared for steep climbs and some mud after rain, so take appropriate footwear. The bluebells and wood aneneme were a delight to behold and the bird song was intoxicatingly sweet to the ears, with the wild dear roaming freely, and rabbits leaping around, this place is amazing, and the view to Glastonbury Tor in the distance a sight to be hold. Look out for the bear!

*DON’T ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU NEED A WALKING STICK - SCRAMBLE REQUIRED* Ended up here by chance after skipping Cheddar Gorge because it was too busy on a bank holiday. Really lovely! Had no idea there was a viewpoint or a scramble, so that was a nice surprise! Couple of things to note - There was no water/stream. It was a sunny 20c day in May, so it had dried up to mud (mentioning in case you are hoping to take your dog for a paddle as we were). The trail begins by the information sign - you have to climb over the grey stone stile/wall there (caused some confusion for everyone, including us 😂). The “rocky path up” is actually a light but steep scramble - also a really fun surprise. Don’t try the red (full/long) trail if you have mobility issues / use a walking stick. A lady ahead of us was struggling and got stuck on the scramble up. There is a blue/accessible trail - try that one instead.

Stunning walk though the woods and up the trails of the gorge. Quite difficult terrain, scrambling up a small stream in some places, so appropriate footwear and walking ability is necessary. The views from the designated cliff viewpoint are no less than stunning. The entire loop took around an hour, about 2km. Recommended!

Lovely moist forest, bit muddy in the winters but great trail to walk. To get to the view point there's a short steep climb at half way point but I've you cross it the views are amazing. On a clear day one can see the Glastonbury tower from here. Has decent parking but easy to miss if you don't watch for it.

Free parking, and beautiful scenery, although the route isn’t clearly marked and we ended up getting lost, so make sure you take a phone with a full battery with you! The viewing point at the top was great, and the walk up the gorge (literally) was great fun too! Great place to take dogs, too.

Amazing walk, definitely not for the faint hearted as some of the routes you need to scramble up quite a steep rocky path. Wonderful views from the view points! Worth going for that, even when drizzling

Stunning walk. Good footwear and plenty of hours daylight a must due to very rocky paths and cliff edges. A decent level of fitness is also required. We did it with our 5 year old without much bother. Really beautiful views once at the top. Downside, we came in our van and couldn't get into the car park due to a height restriction barrier (I don't get the point of this at all), we therefore had to park in a large passing place up the road which is far from ideal.

St. Cuthbert's is a great church. Unfortunately it's in the same small city as England's best cathedral. I have only given it three stars. It's more than just OK but it's not a five star church. They are few and far between.

Went to the fabulous Crib Festival which is held annually at St.Cuthberts. Around 100 Cribs from around the world and made from a variety of materials, from Banana leaves to Cheese. An absolutely stunning display. I work in Wells and often hear visitors comment on St Cuthbert's, mistaking it for the magnificent Gothic Cathedral in the City. I guess that's because the tower of this church is often seen first by visitors coming from the Glastonbury direct and it's also closest to the Bus Station. It's well worth a visit, in it's own right, at any time of the year. The Angel Roof is quite beautiful.

Lovely church. Didn't go inside, the grounds look nice, lots of dandelions growing 😊 visited while looking around hot fuzz locations.

This church is lovely and very interesting. I have never experienced such a sense of calm and peace as when I visited St Cuthberts. There is cold drinking water available to anyone who needs it. Very welcome on a hot day. The atmosphere is very calm and positive. I visited it twice during my stay.

I visited this church and actually enjoyed it far more than the cathedral. A impressive tower, an amazing ceiling, and someone on hand to give us lots of interesting information. Also beautiful flowers in the grounds.

Smashed in the Cellar is a fantastic new exhibition. Full of information, interactive displays, wonderful artefacts.

I made purely a museum visit, whilst there are frequently art exhibitions and activities held here. Delightful old school museum, mainly centred round the pioneering and lifelong archaeological work of Herbert Balch its founder. Very nice experience for adults and perhaps older children. All sorts included from geology and prehistory to local 'byegones' like a miniature replica of a Victorian antique shop and a display about an early photography studio. Wonderful icthyosaur fossil on the way in. I was not enamoured of the WW1 trench with dummies and recorded sounds, it seemed out of place to me, but loved the rest.

Lovely little museum that is well worth the £4 entrance fee. The World War 1 trench exhibit is a must for those with young children. While the shops of Wells High Street exhibition is a welcome look at the past for everyone. The 18th and 19th century samplers are fascinating, but you'll need a torch because they are kept in semi-darkness to avoid the natural dyes fading. The volunteers were friendly, polite and willing to help with any questions and chatted with us as if we were old friends.(30/4/22)

Great rock collection from Herbert Balch, the founder of the museum. But currently undergoing building and improvement work, so might be best to haggle over price if you want value for money. Definitely a Five Star local museum, under normal circumstances, though.

Arrived for a Richard III meeting which was held week before. Museum staff very helpful.

Although I did not go in - (picking someone up from there - looks worth a visit for various fitness / sports plus there is a swimming pool there as well. Enjoy if you visit. (Not sure what the prices are like - but I suspect not too bad as there are lots of vehicles in the car park and plenty of people around).

Reception staff are quick to answer emails / telephone calls. Pool always to a clean standard BUT the changing rooms can sometimes be quite dirty so you have to pick a clean one. Not all pool lockers work so again you have to pick one which works. Overall very happy we are members here just wish the changing rooms were slightly cleaner.

Went there to play badminton in the sports hall. However, the music from the spin class or whatever was going on the other end was excessively loud, with seemingly no consideration for other people hsing the hall.

Categorically the worst website I've used in the last 12 months. To see the timetable, you need to register an account, get a password, and give your address, D.O.B etc. Even then, the website doesn't even work. So fed up I'd sooner swim in the moat than persevere with this nonsense.

I'm a Fusion member and decided to try Wells because of it's Sauna/Steam facilities. I was rather disappointed sadly as they only switched it on at the start of the slot I booked which was just half an hour and it wasn't warm enough until 20 mins in. There aren't any sufficient shower facilities around the area to have a good wash off afterwards unless you want to go to the pool side, but then you are in full view and not sure how you could shampoo and wash properly. The only other shower they have there is also open and the water runs too hot. You would have to go across to the other side where the gym is to use their changing rooms and shower properly. Not well thought out.

Nice local leisure centre, slightly run down, probably due to lack of investment (times are hard everywhere) but seemed very clean and friendly reception. Would go there to swim again

There are some pleasant staff here and the facilities have had some investment, but it’s an average leisure centre at best. Swimming has not returned to its pre-covid timetable and needs to be booked. The gym gets very busy at peak times as you might expect, but the claustrophobia on those occasions is made worse by the imposing decor in the area with a low ceiling, and the way equipment is laid out so that you feel you’re on display when using the treadmills in the middle of the room. Young people are also now allowed in for ‘junior gym’ sessions with adults. Some machines can be out of order and awaiting repair for several months. Signs politely ask you spend no longer than 20 minutes on cardio equipment. Make of that what you will. I do wish they’d do later opening rather than earlier mornings twice a week too, but if you’re an early bird I guess that’s a bonus for you. It’s great that it’s being used and is a community resource, but it feels like the numbers are increasing whilst the facilities are decreasing in quality.

Gopping again. If I wanted to see used nappies in changing rooms or hairs blocking drains I would definitely pay £20 for my family to visit here again for an hour. I don't though, so I will just avoid it.

A very good facility. Polite and helpful staff who can't do enough for you. They allowed us to park our motorhome in the corner of their carpark. We are carers looking after a local person so the Centre was very helpful. They have a gym, a swimming pool and a sauna plus steam room.

Clean and v good sauna and steam room. Shower situation could be better - like more privacy and better showers. Also too many weird mirrors in the changing “village” not great for dismorphia.

Unbelievably rude and patronising staff. I'd forgotten my grandchildren membership cards, and instead of just asking for their names to be checked in, I was read the riot act and made to feel embarrassed and stupid. Unfortunately, over the last few years I've been treated disrespectfully so often by reception staff here, that I'm beginning to think it's part of Fusions staff training. Generally poor hygiene and cleanliness around whole pool area too.

For anyone who wants to freeze their membership for a month or two please be warned that you can only do it from the date of your direct debit. I wanted to freeze mine, put the dates on the form, and my membership was frozen from the direct debit date, 10’days earlier than I wanted. I had to pay to reinstate it (plus a small surcharge!). I can not find anywhere on the website that states it must be from your date of direct debit, so basically unless your holiday or sickness starts on the date your direct debit goes out you can not benefit! Very annoying.

Lovely little pool. There is a shallow bit with bubbles which then leads round into the main pool area. Plus a rapids area around a hot-tub type area (although the rapids were closed when we were there). The family swim session was great - not too busy at all, plus floats and balls to play with. The family change rooms were also better than I've seen elsewhere with plenty of room and some free-standing changing tables which made getting ready much easier.

This place is great and the arcitecture and facilities are good and interesting. The lights are too bright sometimes though.

Amazing, well kept gardens. A little expensive at £16 per adult but ticket is valid for return visits over a year. We visited on a very hot day but plenty of shade. Lovely peaceful areas. Lots of areas of interest at every turn. Very helpful, friendly staff. Excellent cafe. I thoroughly recommend a visit and will certainly return.

Really enjoyed looking round the gardens especially when the sun is shining. Made use of a free tour to find out more of the history. If we lived closer we would probably visit more often just to sit and enjoy gardens.

Wow. I really wasn't expecting the gardens to be so spectacular! I have been to Wells many times but have never paid to enter the Palace. It's well worth a visit! I attended as part of a group, but will definitely be back on my own with the children. It's absolutely breathtaking as you can see from my photographs. The Palace itself was interesting, lots to see and learn - you could spend all day here so the admission price is worth it, especially when you consider that this includes return visits for a whole year. Thoroughly recommend!

Absolutely stunning!! We've been here before, but never to anything like this, it was a veritable feast for the eyes! And very atmospheric, with Festive music playing via loudspeakers in the background, topped off by some very competent singing by a local male voice choir!! If you're struggling to get into the Festive Spirit, try this experience, it'll certainly help!

Wells is a beautiful location for a day trip, but the Bishops Palace and Gardens is something else. I found the gardens far more impressive personally though, beautiful, peaceful with unbelievably crystal clear waters. Steeped in history it’s a wonderful day out. On-site there is a cafe and within the gardens a play area for children from about age 5 upwards. Once you have purchased a ticket it is valid for the entire year, and we will definitely visit again.

Location is awesome and worth a visit if it's your first trip to Wells. Make sure you find the door in the garden that leads you out to the most and outer gardens. This is where the "Wells" are - the springs that l rise and run down the sides of the streets. The inside is quite interesting but not a lot of artifacts etc

A day trip out for my birthday with my elderly Mum and sister. A great easy walk which allows dogs. The plants are fabulous. Almost prehistoric as the size of some are huge ! Lovely day and made my birthday

One of my favourite places to visit both for the Palace buildings and the exquisite gardens. Allow yourself a good two or three hours as this experience is not to be rushed. They put on a lot of events so check online before you go to see what's happening. Lots of open spaces and a play area for the littlies., and the ducks and swans are always a favourite. There is a cafe on site, but also plenty of places to eat in the Market Square. Highly recommended

Great value for money. Tickets are valid for 1 year which is ideal as to take everything in you need more than one visit. The gardens are fantastic. Saw a swan family was amazing watching the male chase off ducks that got too near the cygnets for his liking. We visited twice this week and will definitely be returning later in the year to see the garden in different seasons. The place is OK with lots of interesting architecture.

Wonderful Wells, and the Bishop's palace in full bloom was very pleasant. Charming nooks and crannies to explore, history to read, sculptures to see, even a play in production. Not only that but beautiful gardens and a play area our boys enjoyed. Only real reason not a 5* was the worry of little people and water, prevented it being an entirely relaxed visit. But that's not the venue's fault.

An exquisite place of calm, beauty and tranquility. Unfortunately, due to filming we could only visit the Chapel and Gardens. This was lovely though. Spring has sprung and the contemplative garden a beautiful idea. If I lived nearby, I would frequently visit.

Wonderful illuminations, what a gem! Had such a lovely festive time in Wells yesterday. A lot of illuminated events elsewhere have horrendous crowds but this one was so peaceful, maybe just caught on a good night but would recommend to anyone. Great food, drink and facilities, friendly staff and the lights were fantastic with really beautiful music. The palace looked stunning and brilliant exhibition by local kids. Not only that can use our pass for a whole year, it's such a lovely place will definitely be back. Took us under an hour journey from Bristol, some might do it faster.

I am not impressed with the gardens and palace. The entry tickets are overpriced. The only good part is the knowledgeable staff that work there. You don’t get to see a lot. The most interesting thing that you can see is natural water springs. The gardens are average. Only small part of bishops palace is accessible. Not worth the money you pay.

So glad we made the trek to Wells! A most charming town. The Bishop's Palace and Gardens are definitely worth the tour. The guides are so helpful (they suggested spots for pictures and took them of my husband and I), and were incredibly knowledgeable. Our guide was descended from one of the Bishops who brought over the beautiful French stained glass. While Cardinal Wolsey never really came there, it was cool to see his name on the wall and his portrait in the palace. The grounds and gardens are so beautiful. There is a nice store and cute coffee truck that offered a wonderful hot chocolate with whipped cream and what is called "chocolate flake" on top that was super tasty. The swans were very pretty, but if you came to see them ring the bell for food around one in the afternoon, good luck. So many people feed them now, they don't bother with the bell! Lol. And beware the pigeons. They aren't shy!

The medieval Bishop's Palace in Wells, home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells, dates from 1210. The beautiful Chapel of the Holy Trinity and St. Mark dates from 1275 and the outer walls, moat and gatehouse were added in the 14thC. In the palace you'll find the golden Coronation Cope used at the coronations of King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II and in the gardens the sculptures of the 'Pilgrim' by the Somerset artist David Backhouse and 'the Weight of Our Sins' by the sculptor Josefina de Vasconcellos. The arboretum area is currently awash with snowdrops and croci!

Absolutely stunning, such a beautiful place to visit. The gardens have been lovingly cherished. They really are a joy to walk round. Lots of little areas to visit and the Abbey itself was a sight to see. Would have been a real joy to see it in its heyday. I d like to go back and see the gardens in early summer. But still a joy in September, as is seeing the cygnets. Also the cathedral is also worth an amble, so much history.

Lovely area well maintained by volunteers, interesting history back to the "poor Law period.

A fascinating and unique site, certainly the only one of its kind in the South West. Saved from destruction and cared for in trust by a remarkable group of volunteers, it can be appreciated as a place of burial, an exposition of the heritage relating to the Mendip Hospital (formerly the Somerset and Bath Lunatic Asylum) or simply as peaceful green space. Generally only open to visitors on Sunday, but you can volunteer to help maintain the space on Thurdays.

Incredible history behind this out of the way location. really fascinating and free to go have a look at and on your way back to town there are some stunning views of the cathedral you would never see any other time. great to take your dog to even though not allowed off in the cemetery, there is plenty of off lead walking on the return back to Wells. Definitely go have a look and learn something new and support the volunteers

Enchanting cemetery with beautiful hand crafted sculptures. Lovely volunteers who keep the cemetery paths mowed and talk you through the history in the Chapel. Take your camera as there is plenty of wild insects, flowers & birds as well as interesting artifacts. Tip; Take some money to donate, buy some honey or small wooden gifts.

The volunteers have a vast knowledge of the place & were really happy to chat, tranquil, interesting & thought provoking.

What a lovely place to visit. We were greeted by a very knowledgeable gentleman, who was full of information. The information in the chapel was also very good. The grounds are a wonderful mix of manicured grounds and areas left wild for insects and wildlife. We will hopefully return with a picnic next time.

What an incredibly peaceful space. Clearly the volunteers who run it have worked very hard to keep it as it is and that it’s not sold to developers. Pete was very knowledgable about the history. Could quite happily sit here and read on a nice day.

Really kind volunteers who share the beauty of this special place. There is a little Chapel that holds memories and stories of those who were patients of Wells Mental Hospital, where fresh air, shows, entertainment and healthy food were given to encourage wellbeing. The hospital is now apartments but this sacred place will be a resting place and memorial to all those connected to the hospital. A special quiet area to reflect and just be.... Everyone can visit. Dogs on a lead, welcome and can get a biscuit. The site and chapel is free to visit but the place is run by volunteers and so any donations really welcome for the upkeep.

Lovely setting, very interesting history given by a very knowledgeable guide. Lots to read about the lives of past patients and markers of their burials.

My partner and I who are new to Wells came to look around the town before we moved to get a feel for where we were moving to. We are both artists so have an interest in what's on offer as far as local artists in the area. We are both very nice, unassuming people who wanted to browse the shop to see if there was anything that struck our fancy for our new place, and as a way to view beautiful local art. As we were browsing a woman says to us that "she'd be really impressed if we bought something". I just responded with "I'd love to" as I was slightly taken aback by the comment. I ignored it and continued to look around the shop, then another gentleman walked in and she said it again in front of us and him. We left and I haven't been back since. If anyone ever asked me about the art shops in Wells I certainly wouldn't be able to say anything too positive about this one, and I only like to say nice things. It's bad form, I'm afraid. Guilt tripping people into buying things is a terrible tactic, and I've own my own business and is certainly not the way to conduct it. I look like a young person for my age, but you should never make a generalization or comment like that. I walk past it often and feel sad that I can't go back in, in fear of being ridiculed in such a way.

Called in to the A2 gallery for a browse and was pleasantly surprised by how this has been revived and updated to provide a splendid exhibition of pieces from local artists and artists further afield. It is well worth a visit. It offers art lovers a variety of subject matter and techniques: pottery, sculpture, watercolour, acrylic, oil, collage, and print all beautifully displayed within a gallery that's much larger on the inside than the outer appearance suggests. Even so, it retains its "boutique" atmosphere. Visitors especially should put this on their list. You won't be disappointed.

Superb pieces in a smart gallery, in many different media. Please continue to support this little local gem as they continue to operate online during lockdown. Bought some stunning curved glassware depicting Glastonbury Tor. Reasonable price, super-friendly and professional.

Delightful gallery. I pass it often and always enjoy the window displays. Glad to have the opportunity to browse for an 18th birthday gift for my grandaighter. The intake of breath when she opened the box on a modern silver bangle said it all. It is stunning. And thank you for giving me the time to look, take photos and go away and consult. I'll definitely be back again.

A really nice open green area it's a great place to relax and unwind with plenty of space to sit in the sun and lots of shaded areas there are public toilets here to and a bandstand that looks great. There is a fun looking play park and open space for a kick about.

This is such a great spot on Wells; great for a walk, playing with your dog, taking the children to the playground, play some football or throw a frisbee, you can also walk a little more and sit down by the moat and enjoy the view, the quiet and, of course, the ducks and the swans.

Came her with my 7 month and 2 year old to the park. Fort was amazing. Lots to do there swings little and big had a little climbing fame house and other bits Car park right there it was a pay and display. Clean and tidy.

Beautiful, Wells Cathedral. There was a service in the early evening with the full choir and organ, which sounded amazing and spiritually moving!

I love Wells and beautiful Cathedral. Place to see nice views. You can spend all day with family having picnic or relaxing. Kids love playground which is not far from Cathedral.

Really lovely kids playground, in a nice and convenient location. Picnic benches and a short walk from the city centre. Only slightly marred by the obscene graffiti that the castle is covered in, wouldn't take a lot of effort for it to be cleaned off, would do it myself if I lived locally.

Lovely walk. Great place for the kids to run about and a cool park close by that the kids didn't want to leave.

Good local produce and Arts and crafts. Always a good turnout as its very successful. Got to get there early for the fresh fish man. Always a cue to buy his great fresh caught fish. Lots of food stalls with a wide variety of goods and flavours. Fresh local flowers too. Every Wednesday and Saturday.

Fantastic market with lots of stalls. Right next to lovely walks around the cathedral, park and countryside. The Parsons Nose sells amazing burgers and the flower stall can’t be beat for quality, price and service. Always enjoy a mooch around!

What a lovely little market, hot and cold food on sale. The aromas in the air are gorgeous. I bought some local cider from the tor cider company.....the vintage is luscious. Brilliant proper market. 👍

Something for everyone at Wells market. Local fruit and veg, flowers and seasonal Holly wreaths at a very good price! Local cheeses to sample. Arts and crafts gifts and collector's antique selection too. Hot food and drinks on offer with a place to sit and enjoy! All in beautiful Wells!

Wells market is excellent. We went in February and thoroughly enjoyed it. Went came back last weekend and it was even better. Lots of great products and amazing food. If we lived closer we’d be going all the time. Lots or reasonably priced parking near by and Union Street car parks has public toilets.

I really loved this place. It was so colourful and vibrant. There was an excellent variety of stalls which sold fresh food. There were also fresh fruit and vegetable stands. There was one lovely stall which was very near the entrance to The Bishop's Palace. The clothing showcased all of the colours of the rainbow. I am far too shy to wear anything that colourful, but I can see the appeal. I also like the fact that the vendors let you look at stuff as opposed to asking several questions so that you feel obligated to buy something. It is an ideal place to spend a few hours. The Town Crier was amazing . It was extremely entertaining to see him.

It's a great experience to see and support local businesses in a beautiful scenery. Many coffee places with some vegan choice around and also a few at the market itself - candles, clothes and food

So glad I put this on my trip itinerary. The quality of food produce is fantastic. Lots of variety of stalls, from flowers, plants and soaps, to clothes, art, cards and crafts. Love it. I had pastys from the photos attached and took them home, lamb and mint and steak and Stilton, to die for!

Normally pretty good, but it is slowly creeping into lower quality/mass produced products. There is still a majority of great stalls, but a small change is noticable

Wells Christmas market, horribly busy, didn't buy a thing,couldn't actually get to any stalls. We were trapped in a sea of people slowly flowing along the path. Could definitely be set out with better access and more space to allow flow. Unlike the terminator.. I won't be back!

Always a pleasure to visit Wells Market, wonderful selection of fresh and ready to eat food, I counted 3 fresh fish stalls, quite unusual for these days. Many stalls selling clothes, jewellery and artisan products, lots of flowers and plants finished off with a walk along the bishops Palace moat and a stroll through the park. Lovely afternoon
