Absolutely worth a day visit in Mdina! Lovely fortress with small streets that are magic and romantic even if you go alone. It has a certain vibe. It is also the place where they filmed famous series ir movies like Game of Thrones, DaVinci Code

Omg this city is amazing! If you want to go back in time and feel like a princess or a knight (haha), if you want to walk on history and get an insight of this amazing island and its history, yes you have to go!

An utterly stunning location. Yes it's tourist orientated, however unlike some places I have visited it's not spoilt by that. You could spend a lot of time here, as around every corner there is another draw dropping edifice, or view. Many different languages can be heard, it's truly cosmopolitan, be prepared to help out groups and couples taking photographs, it's fun.

Medina is extremely beautiful but its not silent at all. They promised no cars and there was full of cars nad some Wolt scooter driving all the place making horrible noice. restaurants full and noisy. I imagine this place bit different.

The Silent City in Mdina Malta is breathtakingly beautiful rich with history and every corner is Instagram perfect picture! There’s a cafe that overlooks a vineyard down below and their Cakes and pastry are a must try, deliciously-divine!

On the tourist route of things to do in Mdina. Only option was to purchase a joint ticket for the museum & cathedral, as far as I could tell. The museum was packed full of religious memorableia, but not particularly well or interestingly displayed or presented - quite old fashioned actually. The cathedral was impressive, stunning, gob-smackingly ornate but not really my thing! There is a lot of competition in the 'opulent church' tourist market but this one sadly does not stand out or differentiate itself. I understand however that many may appreciate this cathedral for the truly religious significance it represents.

Nice collection, but we are not fond of the fact that there is only combined ticket available to see cathedra and the museum. With small child it doesn't have much sense to see such things. And the ticket for 10 € is too expensive just to skip the museum and go to see the cathedra. Bathroom with diapers changes is nice in the museum though. As about Duerer exhibition. I thought that there will be some paintings, but there were only drawings.

Very nice museum. You get in using the same ticket as for St Paul's Cathedral. In the ground floor section they store religious artifacts (plus so much more, such as scrolls of music and lyrics), while in the first floor paintings are stored. Bathrooms are on the first floor, which are very clean, and there is also a bathroom for handicapped.

Nice collection with paintings from 15th, 16th century and i can't believe there is even a small collection with Abrecht Dürer's copper and wood-carving prints.

You need to take the ferry from mainland Malta to reach this island, it's a small town with a lot of cathedrals and old buildings. You need at least 4 hours to go around this place. The public busses are very convenient here.

There are several rooms on two floors where they show many things and mementos of Malta's history, you can go through the past and understand many things about the history of this country. All in all for 10€ to have museum and cathedral together is worth it.

There’s always a dark side to medieval times. People would get tortured for a simple crime. Want to know how? Well, you have to visit this museum that is beautifully set up. The romans cut St Agatha’s breast, the Arabs threw rocks on tightened down prisoners, the inquisition set blasphemers on the wooden horse and many more. You’d also get a historical view about the different civilizations who took control of the archipelago

Ok now this was quite interesting learning about the Mdina dungeon and it's history throughout the centuries. A picture really dose tell a thousand words. I do recommend visiting but please I must highlight, don't take children below the age of understanding.

This was a curious little tourist attraction tucked away in M’dina. Only €5 to get in, it uses some of the original cells and cellars of the city to tell the tale torture and violence in Malta from Roman times up until the French Revolution and Napoleonic era. Interesting slice of history, the displays are actually quite informative, although some of the waxworks are a little crude by modern standards. Quite a bloody history really. Although the Middle Ages were really quite grim. So much maiming and general abuse. The masks of shame were very odd. I’m sure I’ve seen that boar wandering around a convention centre in the past... 😆 Small vending machine and toilets hidden at the midway point. Useful to know. Look out for Napoleon….

This was a super wee find. It's different and very scary at the same time. Definitely not suitable for wee ones as the displays are graphic and sometimes you think that the models are actually looking at you !! The eerie screaming certainly adds to the grisly atmosphere. Some of the torture methods were quite horrible !!

Came here a couple of years ago, great place to visit when in Mdina. Full of interesting history on the darker side of Malta. Great for everyone but may scare younger kids.

I have been to so many places like this… but this one was really scary and taught me a lesson to never end up in places like this or their modern versions…..just for 5 euros this place is must visit….to experience the medieval times…that’s why never disobey the royals or those in power

Tickets were pretty cheap and it’s a good way to kill about 45 mins and learning about the medieval tortures at the time. The Mdina Dungeons Museum is located at the entrance of Mdina, right after the main Gate. The entrance fee is only 5 euros, which is quite reasonable, however, the quality of the wax figures is quite low. It is not too bad if you just want to spend some time and have a look to the figures. Furthermore, it is better that children do not go, as they could be scared by most of the wax figures.

DO NOT COME HERE !!! If you want to see badly made puppets and read long texts about torturing methods for 5€pp then come. Otherwise, spend your money on ice cream.

In the museum, first we can see a 3D film about the Knights of Malta. Then next up, an interesting tour where the story is presented with human-sized puppets. Very interesting.

Quirky little museum about the Siege of Malta in 1565. While maybe not the most informative of museums on Malta (especially if you've already visited other museums about the Siege), it is possibly the most amusing one. After the slightly corny introductory film, you are guided through a series of mannequin scenes about the history of Malta. The mannequins are very expressive and very convincing (maybe a bit too much so at times), much more than the laughable mannequins you see at most other historical museums. Also, a nice extra is that the audio guide plays automatically as you walk through the museum. I've never seen that in any other museum, it definitely helps smoothen the whole experience.

Very interesting experience, history of Malta explained in a easy way. There is student discount if you have student id card. Only downside is that it was super cold inside.

The museum tour gives a very good summary of Malta's history. We've been coming to Malta (and Gozo) for a long time, but I didn't know much about Malta's history, here it's incredibly well summarised and to the point. Now we will love Malta even more. The tour guide lady was really nice and professional, as an extra she even had some nice words in our native language. 5 stars!!!!

An interesting insight into the history of The Knights Of Malta through a 3D film and an audio-visual guided tour. The various displays depicting various historic scenes are well done. The only downside is that you can not go at your own pace. The museum is worth a visit if in Mdina.

It was musty dusty and old! We waited up to 25 minutes to go into an old room with terrible story telling and old school wax figures. Has so much potential!

Ticket: 10 eur Nice small/mid size museum in Mdina You can have the audio guide at the entrance. It is included in the price and highly recommended. The palace is well maintained and really full of interesting pieces. Visit takes about an hour or less.

Interesting house. Good audio guide included in the price. Some fascinating displays and art in the rooms around the courtyard . Super rooftop cafe was a welcome find too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The audio guide is interesting and informative. The museum staff were very helpful. We had our lunch in the rooftop cafe - wow what a treat. Great food, wonderful service and such a fabulous view.

A must for anyone visiting the city. Wednesdays are cruise liner days sp avoid these, and try to arrive in the morning.

Lovely old town full of alleyways and picturesque buildings. Lots of great landscape and panorama photo opportunities looking out across the island. There's a few very nice restaurants with great views out over the landscape that are worth seeking out. It's kept very clean and there's a lot of shops aimed at tourists but seemingly little else - we didn't see any locals or signs of life aside from the tourists! Definitely one of the stops worth getting off at if you're on the sightseeing bus tours.

Lovely place to visit you can just take your time and have a walk around. we took a horse and carriage ride which was nice the driver told us it was the second highest place in Malta. Great architecture and place to take a few pictures worth a visit.

This review is not about the gate, but about the old town of Medina. It's really incredible. No matter where you turn there is so much history. Trying to see everything in a day is almost impossible. And if you want to visit all the museums there is a combined ticket, but before visiting check the working hours, because some of them are closed on weekdays.

The silent city is really worth a visit. It is beautiful, lots of beautiful doors and flowers. You can really enjoy the medieval style. The road stones are slightly slipping.

We spent a half day at this place while visiting Malta. It is a historic area with small but picturesque lanes and buildings. We met a fan of the series "Game of Thrones." He mentioned that a number of scenes in the series were shot here. He was comparing scenes in the series with what he was seeing in front of him. He showed us a couple of scenes and corresponding locations. We took pictures of those spots. I must say that the place by itself is breathtaking. We couldn't stop taking pictures. There are a couple of restaurants in a courtyard. They have excellent food and location. We had lunch at one of the restaurants. The horse-drawn carriages manage to find their way into the area. They add to the charm of the place.

Great historical location on the island if not the best. The souvenir store has all the best stuff and easily accessible. Definitely recommend getting the chariot tour ride through the city of Medina. This is a must see spot and is well worth it. There is a bar or restaurant inside to eat and lots of fun stuff for the kids to partake in.

This was our first stop in Malta. To actually see where some episodes of game of thrones was filmed was out of this world. It's actually making us watch game of thrones all over again. During this visit we stopped and talked to locals and our driver mentioned to us that people that actually live here are not able to sell or you cannot buy real estate within this city. The reason is these people are ancestors of the noble people and are not allowed to sell. This was just fantastic to hear. Please do it yourself a favor. Stop by and take all this and it is truly magnificent in its beauty. Take a full day. If they have some restaurants. Eat drink, take it all in. Take lots of pictures. These pictures will not do justice on the sheer beauty of this place

This place has an odd vibe, like you just stepped to some kind of time machine to travel back several dozens years. The whole exposition is quite old and it shows (But at the same time it has some charm to it). Although few things were interesting in summary I can't really recommend it. But if you are spending whole day in Mdina and go for combo ticket I guess it's not a bad choice.

Only visited the small plaza which is the natural history museum's entrance. Quite nice and cosy.

This is fine for the type of museum it is, but it's more for students and learning about natural history and general and not really tourists visiting Malta. That's perfectly reasonable of course but you should understand that if you're a visitor looking for something more unique in a visit to Malta. It's certainly interesting to compare it to other natural history museums in other cities/countries.

An underwhelming museum. The animals and plants section has some interesting information however all their taxidermied animals look quite tired and worse for wear. The minerals section is nice however it is fairly small. Overall it isn't really worth your time or the €5 entrance fee.

Loved the exponats. There were some creepy and weird ones, but also very pretty things. Loved the variety!

If I could rate this 0 stars, I would. It’s like a time warp into the 60’s. There was even a plaque on the wall that read “evolution?”. It is clearly a money grab and the nice building is what draws people in. DO NOT waste your money or your time. An embarrassment to science everywhere.

Needs a big over haul. Just outdated, heritage malta done great work around the Island but I think it is about time for a big update to this place. The palazzo is stunning by itself. The displays must be updated.

A small museum of natural history. I enjoyed the exhibition with animal skeletons, with various stones and fossils. It was interesting to see the artifacts and read about the history of Malta.

A beautiful building houses this national museum which has several exhibits including a wonderful fossils and mineralogy room, prehistoric animals and archaeolgical significant artefacts. Small gift shop with lovely jewellery and keepsakes at the entrance / exit. Tickets can be bought at the door, advance or can use multisite pass.

Very nice museum! Although it's very small it offers a lot! From birds, reptiles and mammals all over to geology. There's something for everyone. I also liked the different aspects in the avian section. Here the history of hunting and trapping as well as conservation measures were explained in great detail. Make sure you don't miss the turtles hanging from the ceiling (they can easily be missed). If you're in Mdina make sure to visit the natural history museum of Malta!

This was an interesting venue, and it was somewhere my companion had intended to visit for some time. Unfortunately, the plan provided didn't make it clear that, to pass between the minerals room and the other rooms on the same level, you had to go downstairs, across the forecourt, then back up again, because of intervening offices! Signage for this and to the lavatories would have helped. The booking clerk took one look at me, and (correctly) decided I must qualify for the over-sixties discount (€7 instead of €10)! There is a room containing many examples of rocks, minerals and semi-precious stones, most with their chemical formulae and origins, that will be fascinating for those with a specialist interest in them (I admit that, after a time, I started to glaze over!). Other rooms deal with the geology of Malta and Gozo, a section on each of the smaller islands, birds, insects and other wildlife found on the islands, and fish found in the surrounding waters. We had a fascinating couple of hours, and may well return when we are next in Malta. All in all, well worth a visit, but be aware that the promised refreshment facilities are limited to a single machine, and there are no lifts between floors.

The natural history museum in Mdina is located just inside the city walls in a grand old building. Whilst it is only €5 to go in, I would suggest it is overpriced, the museum is quite small and no interactive features at all. The exhibits and artefacts are all dated and looks to have seen better days. You would struggle to spend more than an hour here even with children that are interested in the subject. In addition to the main two floors there is a small room in the adjacent building on rocks and minerals.

Beautiful tour! The hosts were so polite and welcoming. It was a very relaxed 30 mins travelling around and learning about the history of the area. The price is very good too.

This is a great means to explore Rabat and its surroundings. Very reasonably priced, and the train journey was very scenic. Enjoy the picture that we took during the ride.

After a walk around Mdina, we choose this terrace right in Mezquita Square, with wonderful view. We tried a maltese traditional plateau for two with cheese, sausages and vegetables. It was delicious!

Great ambiance! Service is relatively fast and portions are on the bigger size of things. All in all, combined with the location the prices are great value for your money The only thing I would love to see implemented for a cafe that says they offer a "medieval experience" is old looking plates, wooden or steel jugs for all drinks and no, or just very basic cutlery.

Really not a must see. Better spend the few Euros on a good coffee or a guide who will guide you through the city. Outdated film which tells a very interesting city history in a pretty boring way. The second star is for the comfortable chairs.

One thing this place has that makes it worth a single star is its fantastic location. However, the food is simply disappointing. Yes, they're not a dedicated restaurant but they should think about improving their food a bit. Aside from the slow service, their ftira was stale, dry and had an awful texture. If you want to experience proper Maltese food, there are other places in Mdina and Rabat to do that. Mdina Experience would only tarnish your visit to the lovely city of Mdina!

disgusting, i ordered a mexican hot dog, and it was full of cheese sauce and was impossible to eat. I told the staff and they didn't offer me a solution or a discount.

1st of all - I’m rating the restaurant not the exhibition!! 2) Place is really lovely located, they serve really good Home Malta Vine (or how was it called). So if you want to have a drink in a lovely location- go there. 3) restaurant service friendly but we had to wait a bit too long until someone noticed that we’re done with food and our glasses are empty. 4) We ordered Maltese Salad (I’m disappointed - served with no dressing - looked good but SO DRY, if they didn’t give us olive, vinegar balsámico, salt and pepper it would be uneatable like that. Ingredients like Maltese sausage and veggies fresh and tasty but mixed together without a dressing unfortunately not). 5) my friend ordered tuna wrap, asking waitress like 3 times to notice that she doesn’t want OLIVES in. Guess what? There were so many of them, she ate like a half of her food and was so disappointed. Fortunately she’s not allergic to olives. And tuna wasn’t too good unfortunately. Two stars for wine and location. We left the tip because it’s not waiter’s fault that kitchen gives visitors not too good experience but please, if someone asks about something - try to make it possible or warn that it’s impossible.

We stumbled upon this restaurant on the streets of Mdina! It was beautiful, the location and the staff, which was very kind and the communication was on spot! We ordered Maltese Lasagna and Maltese Timpana. We took a bite out of the food before taking this picture and it was delicious! Definitely ordering it again if we’re visiting!

Amazing coffee, tea and food. Also ot’s not expensive. I really recommed it. Atmosfere is amazing!

Nice interior, welcoming service. Definitely makes you feel like you are in an authentic medieval European restaurant, true to its name. I had the vegetable wrap and was pleased, but a little surprised that the potatoes were just Lays chips. The soup was a nice warm treat on a cold night. The food could be better but we were just happy to be indoors. We did have the true Mdina experience, with people coming out of the trapdoor in the ground next to us, very interesting. Solid 3/5 stars.

Lovely interior but the food was bad, huge portion of bread and cheese with the Mexicana but unfortunately the bread tasted stale and the cheese was not good and took much longer than expected to arrive. Would be much better to give smaller portions with better ingredients. The wine coolers were tasty and refreshing.

Our first meal (lunchtime) in Malta. We were hungry so would have eaten anywhere. Food was reasonably priced, but was rather bland for the sandwiches and I had the Maltese lasagna which was extremely salty and was just overcooked pasta with some red sauce. They served a decent selection of drinks, Bert as well as soft drinks

If you are looking for a beautiful green park overlooking the Maltese city then Howard Gardens is a great place for both daytime and after-dark photo shoots.

Howard gardens provide a quiet spot just outside Mdina, offering beautiful views of the medieval city Howard Gardens is one of the larger gardens in Malta named after the first Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Howard OBE (1862-1925), and was inaugurated in 1942. The Howard Garden is situated between popular Rabat and Mdina, very close to the Roman Villa, forming a natural border between the two cities. When visiting the gardens you will see an orchard of orange trees, a football ground, a tennis court, trees and shrubs as well as benches and pathways

These gardens, which are freely accessible to the general public, is conveniently located at the border between Mdina and Rabat. The gardens are gorgeous and all the plant life are maintained well. There are statues, plenty of benches and public toilets too. Fantastic place for a summer evening stroll when the crowds start to thin or at sunrise if you’re after something a bit more tranquil. Beautiful gardens!

V-e-r-y impressive! I love visiting churches etc everywhere I go. On the outside this didn’t seem so interesting, but I am só glad I went inside. The paintings and decorations are truly stunning. It’s not really big, so Ind definitely recommend stopping by, even if you only have five minutes. Chances are you’re passing by anyway so why not go in!

A very hidden little gem - the shooting location for Littlefinger's brothel in the early Game of Thrones seasons! So thrilling to hunt it down in the old city and stand there in person.

Game of thrones lovers must know this place :) loved it, it is so peaceful and nice!
