This was surprisingly fun! When I first heard “salt mines” I wasn’t sure how fun it would be but you see the way they invest in the tour experience and it pulls you in. Our tour guide Niklas was EXCELLENT - Expert at swapping between German and English, talking to kids, teens, adults. The slide was the most fun. I’m from Minnesota so it was a fine temp in the cave with a light jacket - the coldest part is when you take the “train” into the mountain. We were staying in Salzburg near Old Town so it takes some maneuvering to get there via public transit. Do not take Uber Taxi - it didn’t show the metered fare before we selected it - I mistakenly assumed it would be cheaper than the 50 Euro Uber and it was 70. We took the train home. Thanks to Niklas for a great experience!

This might have been the highlight of our trip to Austria. The kids (8&6) were super reticent about going, sure that ninety minutes would be too long and ‘why do we always have to go on tours’ but they ended up being blown away. They couldn’t say enough about it afterwards and kept on bringing up new things that they were impressed by. Our tour guide was super friendly and helpful. She seemed to go out of her way to include my youngest and feel like she was getting a special tour. The views from outside the visitors Center are astonishing and they have a special platform for taking lovely pictures.

Wow, what a wonderfull experience! We were 6 adults and 6 kids and we had an amazing time. The tour starts with special clothes you put on top of your clothes. Then you go by a small train to the mine and then start walking. At some point you even cross to Germany! There is also a fun slide inside and a boat with a lights and sounds show. It was so much fun and so well done, we all enjoyed it so much. It costs 30 eur for adults, it is not included in the salzburgcard. Don't miss it!!

The tour is conducted in both German and English, so it is okay for those who may not understand German. Very cool looking displays, as well as informative videos shown at different stations to help visitors better understand the history of salt mining in Austria. There is a short boat ride within the salt mine, and a station to taste the brine if you like to try. There are two slides as part of the guided tour. For the first slide, your photo will be taken as you slide down (you can purchase a physical copy of it for €9 at the end of the tour). Your sliding speed will also be measured and shown on a display panel as you reach the bottom. Think kids will like the slides. The second slide is longer, but no photos taken/speed measured.

This was quite the fun excursion. The app is very helpful when you can't hear everything the guide is saying. The slides were great, I wanted to do them again!

We had not planned for this during our vacation in Austria but decided to go the day before because the weather forecast showed rain. This was very fun. There were two very fun slides and a fun train ride (2x). Our tour guide was great. The shop was very nice as well. The only negatives I will say is that our tour was too full. There were about 60 of us and finding spots on the train were difficult for those last in line. Also when we had to watch a movie or gather around to look at something he was explaining, many people could not see. The guide could have been better about instructing others to let children come forward or to make a wider circle. There were many rude people on our particular tour and they shoved their way in front and blocked views for little ones. Very frustrating. At first, I was sceptical about visiting a mine but I quickly changed my mind about the service and organization. I was a speleologist in the past so I know the dangers of heading deep into a mountain. We were given thick clothes to not get dirty and keep warm as inside the mine there is 8°C all year long. The journey started with a 3 min banana train ride and then proceeded by feet in a circle for then get back to the train and outside. The whole tour is 3 h. The tour guide explained professionally but also funnily to us in detail the history of the mine and the way from the past to modern times the salt is still extracted today. There are two wood slides in the mine, they are an example of how people in the past were used to moving from one tunnel to the other. We tasted the brine, one drop can cure your soar throat! The air inside the tunnel has 100% humidity with salt particles and it gave us two irritations to the throat for the whole two days after the visit, however, I suggest going.

One of the best mountain coasters we did. The view to the top is amazing. There is a very tasty restaurant at the top, which also exhibits a ski equipment from different times. There is also a hiking trail that lets you climb to the top.

Incredible experience! Fun for all ages! There is a nice chairlift to the top and you can ride the coaster down to the bottom. If you just want to enjoy a drink or some food you can take the chairlift to the restaurant at top and return on lift as well. Amazing views from the top!

This activity was soooo much fun! There is a pub at the top so you can stop for drinks. The karts go as fast as you let them and the route down on the tracks takes you through some beautiful views. Well worth a visit.

We all had a great time. Hubby and our toddler went a couple of times, our teen friend was initially reluctant and then did 3 runs! Our athletic friend hiked up and took the chair down. Something for everyone. Even a little imbiss at the bottom for snacks and a lovely restaurant at the top. Very fun!

The ride was pretty good. There’s a beautiful view of the land down below. Make sure you put the bar down on the ski lift because my group didn’t know until halfway up. Be prepared to stop many times on the track. The people in front of me when I went kept stopping and getting out of their cart. Otherwise very nice ride. It’s about 10 mins Long if taken at a slow pace.

YOU NEED 3 RIDES TO ENJOY IT FULLY We were there with my wife and our 3 yo and bought 3 rides each (kid was free), so that we can both ride with him once and the third ride we asked to connect both sledges together for a new experience. The first ride is a bit adrenaline even with breaking, which is great. The second ride you need to stop breaking for a new rush of adrenaline. And it's better to have a 3rd ride also in case someone in front of you is scared and constantly breaks and thus ruins your ride (making you also contantly break instead of going widly fast).

So much fun with unreal views! The lifts up are breathtaking and when you think you are at the top it goes even higher! We went later in the day like 5pm. Not many people. They have a restaurant at the top and some great photo ops. Then the slide! One lever for forward and back to brake. Some of the turns are pretty tight so if your a thrill seeker put the petal to the metal! It takes 4 minutes of awesome views to slide down. We would have done it twice but they were closed when we got down. We all loved it and got great video on the way down!

The museum has many interactive equipment and could be very interesting for children. The staff is friendly and helpful. The two downsides are lacking, or rather confusing parking place. Also there was a lack of books and literature in English language to buy in the museum store, which is regrettable. A must-visit for history buffs in the area around Salzburg.

Nice place, but you really need to have at least a bit of overview about celt culture, to trully enjoy the experience here. The map of the museum is placed behind the ticket purchase stand, so you don't really have an idea, what content awaits you. We got there 1 hour before the closing and that is not by far enough time to fully explore the museum. Ideally at least 2.5 to 3 hours.

Excellent museum covering the Celts of Central Europe and then the local area especially saltmining, copper mining and social change. Some parts had English translation on the walls, other parts had printed laminated sheets. Really well explained and thought-provoking.
