Looks beautiful from the outside. Nothing much to see inside. Mostly are empty rooms. There was performance when we came to visit. Not spooky at all. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It's basically a historical trip back in time to the colonial era from a train enthusiast perspective. If you want to gain the most experience possible, please do hire a guide there.

I think all tour guides should respect visitor who do strolling around by themselves. I know some visitors paid them to guide, tell in details and take some photos but sometimes the tour guide case out other visitors who are taking photos. Its such a shame, historical landmark but has tour guide minim appreciate other visitors. Despite of all, i love this place because its authenthic building

Perfect place to stroll around and enjoy the vintage cultural and architectural heritage of Semarang. Famously known as to having less than 1000 doors, built during the Dutch colonialism era. Infamously known for its haunting and mystic vibes, due to its rich history and cultural background.

It's a popular historical building. Beautiful Dutch Colonial building with rich of history. Unfortunately there was no parking lot, so it's better to use a public transport or chartered car/bus. 2nd floor can not be accessed IDK why.

It looks better, than the first time I came here couple years ago. There's UMKM that's sell food and drink. Poorly we couldn't go the second floor building (front part). I wish I couldn't see people standing on the grass.

A very beautiful old colonial building. It's worth a visit. I enjoy the atmosphere here. Quiet and serene even some tourists could be a little bit noisy. The ticket price is IDR 20K for local tourists and 30K for foreigners (November 2023).

An astonishing historical site. This building complex was established in 1907 as the head office of the Dutch railway company. It has hundreds of doors, almost a thousand, that's why people call it "lawang sewu", which means thousand doors. This place is well maintained, despite of its old age. The Catholic Dutch architecture buildings with hundreds of doors (which were rounded to thousand = Sewu/Seribu) are obviously the main attraction to this place and it's quite well-preserved by the local govt. They had quite lots of infographics to read from to know more about Lawang Sewu and had many photographs and paintings from old times to view. You could unironically get a bit lost while exploring, or at least that's what happened to me. There are too many doors to step into and go out from. Not every story/floor is open for visitors, though. If you're looking for a classic recreational site to visit with family, friends or loved one, this is such a good place. There are a lot of food stalls, coffee place, clothing store and even live music and CFC restaurant to spend time in. Restrooms were under a fixing process when I visited so it wasn't quite nice. They have a Musholla for muslims to pray as well in case they need it.

Come here at night.. Just like other old buildings, it has unique architecture.. Oh, the name itself implies about thousands of doors but I don’t know if it’s actually one thousand door in here.. Pssst, if you love train then come visit this place, you’ll see a building full of history about it..

If you haven't then you should visit this place. Good to see the history of trains in Indonesia and this historic building with literally so many doors hence the name lawang sewu (in Javanese) which translates to 1,000 doors.

This is our second visit! Unfortunately the ticketing system has changed.we paid 40.000 for two, to find out that’s just an entry to the front only not close up to the actual temple. We still have to pay again to enter the temple. This is not fair seem no one say about anything at the entrance. If they explain up front, we would have choices and we are ok to pay at full price for whole visit. Being honest upfront is best policy, especially when it come to visit a tourism spot

Very interesting and cultural place. If you want to visit I suggest you bring sunglasses or an umbrella, as it can get really hot. There are some great spots for photos if you are a traveler. The entrance ticket is also very affordable, but if you want to pray, you have to buy a prayer ticket and you can walk around taking pictures. If you only buy a tourist ticket, you are not allowed to enter the prayer area. The best option is to buy a prayer ticket when you enter the Sam Poo Kong area. If you like architectural photography, this place is a must visit!

Undoubtedly beautiful in architecture. Feels like in China! Love every detail here. Been here several times since I was a kid, this place still takes my breath away! The lantern, however, is more festive during Chinese new year.

A famous temple in Semarang. The temple is spacious. Aside from the prayers section, people can go around the temple as well since there are lots of picturesque spots. Other than that, there are lots of food stalls and souvenir shops inside. I went there at ~3PM and unfortunately, the food stalls are closed. If you want to pray there, many friendly staffs are ready to guide you, so you do not have to worry.

Icon of Semarang city, full of cultural heritage buildings and monuments. The parking lot is quite spacy. The officers are friendly and welcome. We can sit on the gazebo and hearing bell ringing softly by the wind. So relaxing. It is quite hot due to limited big trees on the field though.

It would’ve been a 5/5 star if only it’s a lot cleaner. Everything else tick the boxes for me; amazing history, well preserved structures, but the cleanliness surely is something that needs to be improved. But love the experience regardless.

Things that you can put in to your bucket list when you’re in Atlas City, one of the top notch destination located in the heart of the city, pretty easy & affordable to get in. It also has a giant parking space so you don’t need to worry to park your vhcl.

The place is great! The entrance fee was 25000 per person. When you wanna explore the temple inside, you have to pay 20,000 more. There’s a different rate for foreigners. It’s a good thing I look Indonesian and can speak very little Bahasa. I paid the local price. 😁

Watched a concert yesterday The temple is really cool. Every corner seems perfect for taking photos. There are some areas specifically reserved for worship, so we can't just enter freely. Some locations can be viewed by removing your shoes. There's also a service for taking photos in Chinese royal costumes

There is a mosque in Semarang that is as big as the one in Jakarta. Many people come to look, take pictures, and pay homage. I didn't go inside the mosque, but took pictures and looked around the building. There was also an observatory tower there.

Wonderful mosque architecture in the capital city of Central Java, Semarang. Finally got the chance to visit and perform subuh pray before going to Solo. Many jamaah visited the mosque even before Subuh Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the toilet and wudhu spot should be improved a lot. It was really uncomfortable see rubbish everywhere. The floor was slippery so it can be dangerous for people to walk here to have wudhu There was no cleaning officer there, plus the visitor has no awareness to keep the place clean It was very disappointing

Masjid is very big and beautiful with giant umbrellas similar with Masjid Nabawi.

The mosque is breathtaking. The architecture is also beautiful. It has its own style. Also this mosque is HUGE! When you come here I advise you to go to the information centre first. I went here to pray by myself and got lost (but the view is great anyway so it's fine). But it is very hot if you come here to enjoy the view in the middle of the day.

This mosque have an old giant or big Qur'an in hall of mosque, the architecture like Medina mosque but in little version and astonishing mosque complex, in this front of mosque plaza they have very big Bedhug and they have tourist attraction in top of mosque tower we can see semarang city around here, in parking lot area they have many food stalls selling many original hand gifts from semarang city, i take a photo shot this mosque in rainy day, editing it, and voila this photo very amazing.

A visit to Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah on 7/Mar/2020. The most unforgettable features of this mosque to me are its outdoor arch and the purple color used, maybe the number of mosque I have seen is not large, I guess purple color is rarely used. After I arrived at the mosque for a while, I heard Adzan from the minaret, it was resonant, I was deeply attracted to stay there to listen to. I even record the voice, when google map supports to upload a video, I will update. There are 4 pillars looking like umbrellas, the function of them are used as shelters for prayers in rainy days. The inner side of the mosque is luxuriant, visitors (prayers and non-prayers) are free to come in, I lingered in the mosque for more than 1 hour.

The umbrellas were closed even though the day was super bright - cost saving, understood. But the toilet and the place for taking ablution was lacking of fresh air and was wet wet wet.. inside the mosque, as most of mosques I have ever been to in this country, children were running here and there, women talk-siding loudly sometimes giggling, and of course some were taking nap..

This is the most iconic church around Semarang. It was built in the Dutch Imperialism time , but still standing right now in the northern part of overall Semarang City. Place is well known as a landmark. You can pretty much find motorcycle or car parking spots in anywhere nearby to visit, there are no direct spot here. Building is definitely well maintained, inside and outside, and well kept. The surrounding, it has a small park, and around there it's mostly cafe nowadays. If you like to take photos , you can just go here and take photos as you like. There are always a good surrounding here.

GPIB Semarang is a dutch heritage Church which now functions as tourist destination. Located in Kota Lama Semarang area, it is very well managed and preserved. I dont think visitors can easily walk in, so only see it from outside. The place has many good spots for taking pictures, and it looks good both at daylight and night.

Open for public to visit but also open for Sunday Mass. Located at the heart of Semarang Old Town. The building is still properly maintained. The style is very 'Dutch'. Come in the morning for a great view and less crowded for photo session.

This is one of the most well known church and the oldest Christian church in Semarang. Also called as "Gereja Blenduk/Church Blenduk", it is such a wonderful classic masterpiece. The shape of the building (neo-classic style) makes us remember to the church in Europe. The church is currently active and well-maintained. It also has baroque organ that inactive because of the unavailable parts. Good for selfie, and adjacent to Srigunting Park that makes the place comfortable.

This Protestant Church is actually still being operated every week for praying purpose but if you want to come and visit, you need to pay for charity for about 10,000 IDR/person. There wasn't many room of this place that we can visit due to security reasons, still seems like another church supposed to be, the difference is only about the architecture of the building.

Waroeng Semawis has been closed since the Pandemic. No more Night Market Street Food. We went at 7PM on a Saturday Night and the whole street (Jl. Gg. Warung) is empty with closed shops. Opt to the new Alun-Alun Masjid or Semarang Old Town instead.

Whoaaa... I never found a long street with full of street food market like this! You can find any traditional or modern food street in this place. Even halal or not. Choose what you want to eat, but I guess, you'll be confused to do it, hahaha. For me, gudeg koyor is the best. Oh, there's a live music, too. Some of the tenants just use cash for the payment and the others has a Go-pay barcode, but I didn't try if it really works or not. The road is wide, so it's totally okay for disable or people who use wheel chair.

I went here on a Friday night and it's not the biggest market but there is afew nice food stalls. There's some seating to eat your snacks and some love music to enjoy. It was quite lively but not that many Chinese dishes.

Despite the crowd, this place is quite clean. I found many interesting and delicious street foods here. But the price is not exactly cheap but still acceptable. It's a touristy area, after all.

This is like street food center. You can find many kind of snack, or even local food. There are many tables and chairs so you can spend time with your family. This Semawis night market is open during weekend. And for moslem, you need to be careful with non halal food

Night market, only on friday, saturday and sunday night. Didn't come here for the food actually but the ambience and the chinese- market-vibes. But unfortunately after pandemic they got quite deserted, guess not so much people come here. There are various kind of foods, from desserts such as waffle, snacks, beverages such as mango juice and wedang tahu, and main course with rice. They also have pork dishes incase you're curious. P.S. bring extra money, I bet you couldn't control yourself from trying many kind of food here.

Night market, only on weekends. Mostly street food. So many choices of snack n yummy food and drinks. A bit hard to find a parking space. Recommended place to visit if you’re in Semarang on weekend. If you’re looking for local street food in Semarang, Waroeng Semawis is a great place. Located in Chinatown and near Johar Market and Old Town. They offered various food from halal food until non halal food. Can find shoufle pancake, seafood, fried tofu, pork satay, siomay, batagor, bakcang, conglik ice, ice potong, cakwee, jasmine tea, lumpia, kwalik tofu, crepes, and many more. You can also find street singers singing songs with beautiful voices. In here, a bit hard to find a parking space. Recommended place to visit if you’re in Semarang on weekend. Open from 18.00-22.00. Per person can spend of more than 50K for 1-3 kind of foods. Just don’t forget to bring your umbrella in case suddenly raining at night.

A Buddhist temple just outside of Semarang. They have detailed carving and statues that are extremely beautiful u can enter without paying a price and you can pretty much go everywhere on the kompleks and take pictures. Recommended if you want to to do a cultural visit or to pray if you're a Buddhist

You can easily spot the pagoda from main road. It’s quite big and has a lot of good spot for your photos. Coming early in the morning is recommended. The parking is not too spacious but you can still park your car since this place is not too crowded.

For those who love to take a train to everywhere,,this train station definitely should be count as one of destination place...this station have most of facilities that station needs,,such as toilets,Mushola,lots of charging plugs and gift shops...with it's original decoration and interior like in Colonial Era,this station still have it until now and well maintained..their cleanest should be count as well👍

Old train station at Semarang. But overall service and cleanliness is largely improve. Its very comfort and convenience to travel with train nowadays. Has good scenery as well at the surrounding station. Food station at the platform deck should be improved to give wider option and selection to customer waiting.

One of the train station which still active in Semarang and mostly use to board the executive train,but some business class or economy premium also stop here. Good and clean station. ATM available and some convenience store also. You can take a snack or coffee before you take the train or some special food made in Semarang such as Bandeng Juwana or Tahu bakso bu pudji here.

The old town area is quite well maintained

This is the main train station in Semarang, Center Java. Old architecture building but still in good condition with modern facilities. Need more improvement in toilet and another facilities. They have coworking space. Nice place, not to crowded, large waiting area, huge parking lot. Very awesome atmosphere in this train station.

My friend and I describe this as a “tourist trap.” It is included as a tourist destination in an article we found, but little did we know that it’s in a middle of nowhere. The canyon is not even natural-made. It’s made from the constant quarry. For photo’s sake, you can visit the place but make sure you have your own mode of transportation because I don’t think you can find a Grab car or bike when you’re there.

This rock and soil mine has very low activity during Eid Mubarak holiday so we can get clear picture of the view. The road is accessible when you use sedan or SUV but rather danger if you want to go further close to the mountain especially when it rain. We go 4WD and go deep and in high ground to get stunning view. Its worthed the risk actually, amazing view, would even better for sunset time. The road is much like off road, with many of big rocks hasnt cleared along the road. The minus thing is not recreational area it only open for public. So not much activity can be done but taking picture or filming the sight seeing.

We went up around 5plus evening, so sky was not bright anymore. But really, nothing is spectacular. The viewing spot from top was kinda dirty, rubbish around. Not worth to visit, in my opinion

Beautiful place, even better in the evening to see sunset. Tou can also see ungaran mountains from here. The site is also use for quarry, so you will see a lot of construction car pass by. But the road access is quite bad, I visit using motorbikes.

Its a beautiful spot, perfect for photography, yet never go without preparation. Naturally the scene is an active mining location, there are numerous mining activities there, and the road is like an offroad track, a sedan or car with low ground clearence definitely can't go there, especially when its rain. Very dangerous! Despite all that, the place is a beautiful spot to take a photo.

This place isn't managed as a recreational place so there are not many things to do here aside from taking photos. It's not far from the city but the road isn't good for vehicles so be careful. The mining activities continuously change the shape of the hills. The last time I was there, the hills didn't look good as in my previous visit.

THIS place actually is a sand mining area. The ongoing mining activities creates hills and canyons. People find it interesting to take photographs of the place specially in Golden Hours that is in the morning or in the afternoon. The place is Instagramable despite the path to the place quite hard to travel. It's best to use motorcycle to get to the location. It will be easy to move to other spots since the place quite big. Anyhow there is other way to reach the location by your own car. Just follow the route of dump trucks of the site.

It's actually a Quarry. What's left of it is today's scenery, haystack hills consists of volcanic rock layers. The view itself is quite pleasant, especially when around sunset. Quite dusty and windy in here, if you want to visit Brown Canyon I recommend to bring your own mask. Don't get too close to the hills, it's quite high and vertical. Be aware of rock avalanche.

A "tourist" sites that gives America a grand canyon scenery. This is the site of a stone quarry that is still active but is open to the public. If you visit here you'd better have a mask because there are still other trucks carrying mining materials. Access to this location is not so good. If you geologists this place is good to learn volcanostratigraphy. Hopefully, local authorities can make the site a conservation site so that it can become a natural tourist attraction with visitors.

Staff, very welcoming and so many worshippers singing in the service, so heartwarming. As a solo traveller from the UK, I was so happy to be here amongst the lovely people of Java and it reminded me of home. Thank you. Church itself is beautiful and spacious. The Service on Saturday was very popular which added to the wonderful atmosphere.

A beautiful and stunning church near Lawang Sewu. Had an afternoon mass at 16.30 WIB on Sunday and the health protocols are applied nicely. The Mass is in Indonesian language. The seat place made of wood and quite spacious. It’s cozy inside as there are AC inside. Near the entrance door, we can find and pray to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to Mother Mary. They have big parking spot, or we can park at the school field which is adjacent with the church.

A well-preserved old Catholic church located near Lawang Sewu. Their weekly mass is in Bahasa Indonesia. But because it does not have a big capacity, make sure to come early if you dont want to sit outside 😬😬😬

This church can be regarded as the Capital of The Archdiocese of Semarang. The cathedral is look stunning and beautiful. This church is also one of the church that maintain much of the Liturgy regulation. You can find an Eminent organ in this place, quite rare to be used in Indonesia. Have a mass here is cozy because there are Air Conditioners inside this place. Beside this church you can see and pray at a small park with quite huge Holy Cross and Pieta Sculpture. Behind the seats, you can find also place to pray to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to Mother Mary. This cathedral is easily accessible since located adjacent to several well-known place at the heart of Semarang, such as Tugu Muda, Simpang Lima, Jalan Pandanaran, etc. Many public transportation go in front of the complex, such as Trans Semarang and angkot. I am surprised that in the complex of the cathedral, I can also find several ATM.

This place located in an expensive land surrounded by important buildings like Lawang Sewu, A big Church, Museum Mandala Bakti( now it has many businesses inside of it include a Starbucks ), A big market of Johar, then governmental building ( Udinus was next to it), Also a big building of public library ( now it moved for a while ). It was a circular garden inside of a junction of roads, the view was beautiful and free to enter. I used to pass around it daily in the evening after an additional class on certain days when I was in Junior High School.

A square located in the down town of semarang, in the same area you can see and visit lawang sewu building. That is the old building which is built when Dutch was here in Indonesia

Nice place, nice memory

Historical place, clean and has a big parking space. Nice place to hangout and have a lot of food tenant for lunch, dinner, etc.

Historical landmark. One of the icon of Semarang. In the middle of busy street during rush hour or fast vehicles when its empty so becareful if you want to go there.
