Some purely amazing ruins. If you're anything like me when I first hear "ruins" I don't get too excited. But oh boy was I wrong here. Seeing the famous Buddha head in the tree alone was quite the site. Then to see this amazing architecture both overgrown and seeing a bit of what used to be was very worth. Such an amazing place and very beautiful. Well worth the drive

This is where the famous Buddha head in the tree. And also a place where you can take nice IG photos but foreigners has to pay 50 baht (5 times) more to go in. I definitely can afford the entrance fee but I still do not support dual pricing.

Love it here always. Recommend come in the morning before tour bus come, so you get pictures without people in your background. If you drive behind the park you will see some elephants too.

This place is nice and impressive with the Buddha head grow inside the roots of the tree. It was crowded around the Buddha head in tree but other parts of this scenic spot. When taking picture with the Buddha head, you must sit down to show respect. Even for a selfie, the guard will also ask you to lowered your body. Tickets are sold at the entrance. The ticket is 10b for local and 50b for foreigner. Do take note, for the foreigner who resides in Thailand must also pay the foreigner price which is 50b. No matter you hold a long term visa, Thai driver license or the pink identity card. Toilet is charged 5b per head.

Large and magnificent ancient temple not to be missed. Many buildings still have walls to step in to see inside. Could very well be nominated as the world's heritage. No monkey in here

This place is amazing. You could spend hours looking through the ruins imagining what they would have been like originally. There's also another entire section of temples across the road, behind where everyone else goes at the main tourist area, which is in fact more intact, and it's only a two minute walk to the next block, where there are no tourists at all. This place is truly an amazing temple complex and it covers a very large area. It's located right next to one of the main streets of town, so easy to get a drink, meal or tuk-tuk nearby also. Entry to the main park is 10 baht (around 40 cents AUD). As part of the Ayutthaya Historical Park, it is highly recommended to add this place to your list of places to visit in Thailand, and there's another eight or nine temple complexes within spitting distance! You could literally spend a week looking at them all. It is only an hour and twenty minutes from Bangkok by taxi and expect to pay around 2,000 baht (around $80 AUD) for a return trip. If you find a good English-speaking taxi driver, they'll even give you a guided tour and get you around town.

Had a great time here. Lots of historical significance. Definitely a must visit, it's a doable day trip from Bangkok. Would recommend renting a bicycle (50 baht) to get around the area. It is quite sunny so best to bring a hat, water, and sunscreen haha Also need to dress appropriately to enter the temples. Entrance fee costs 50 baht.

Ruins are cool and probably the most unique you’ll see in the area with the Buddha head in the tree. Cost 50 thb to get in and staff are friendly and helpful. They will make you cover up if your shorts are too short, especially women. There are places on site to buy clothes if need be and the prices are very reasonable.

Of the six temples on the combo entry ticket, this one was definitely worth a visit. I'll let my photos tell the story. One note - there were ramps for those in a wheelchair to access the main part of the temple grounds.

We especially went to this temple ruines for the buddha head in a tree, which is something you really have to keep an eye out for because it's quite easy to miss, but the ruines overall are very beautiful and definitely worth a visit.

This temple is pretty destroyed but it has it charm. One of them is the buddha that was held by a tree is very unique and original. The rest of the temple has still few areas that are worth it to visit.

Must visit historic site at Thailand. The Buddha head in tree roots is one of the main attraction bring me here and it’s not dissipated me as well. We went here at around 8:00am — before the crowds arrived. If you will go here, go in shirt and pants (for men) and cover your shoulders (for women). This place is still a Buddhist temple that the locals recognize and respect. At that time, parking is easy.

Stunning ruins from the Ayattuya period. Well kept gardens, friendly staff. 50baht per foreigner. Umbrellas provided on entry as protection from the beaming sun. There were loads of bats sleeping inside the temple.

The busiest of all the temples I visited in the city as you can find in this one the head of Buddha in the tree. When taking pictures remember you need to sit and you can take a picture standing up as a sign of respect as otherwise you are above him. Also you need to remove any hat.

Beautiful place to visit and walk around. We came at sunset which brought totally different lighting. In fact we arrived just before they closed so we’re almost the only people inside making photos easier. Perfect timing except for almost becoming a feast for the mosquitoes, so if you aim to do this bring mosquito spray.

Reasonable entry ticket and wonderful architectural place. Buddha's face in the tree is the highlight. We could see a lot of Buddhas without head reason being, Buddha's head used to be decorated with diamond, emerald and gold which looters cut and take away. Massive place. But the humidity was unbearable. Recommend carrying water bottle, sun glasses and umbrella.

The most visited (mainly because of its location) temple ruin here in historic Ayutthaya. The surrounding park is also nice to walk around. You can pay an entrance fee if you really want to visit the interior premises but if you won't, you can also see it from outside since the surrounding walls are low.

Very nice experience and touring. Many nice experiences. We saw the many ruins making up the temple. The banyan tree growing around d the Buddah's head was interesting. Plus many of the old ruins have settled from hundreds of years of settlement of the soil. Also war with Burma - now Myanmar - may have burned the interior wood structure. 1 ft and 2 ft of tilt seen on 1 temple. Amazing complex to walk around, so many details to explore. Loved walking around here, even though it is a bit touristy. A temple complex. Built on/around ruins that's in the process of being restored/new building adding to the complex. You can still climb the Chedi/Jedi to give you a view of the entire complex. A reclining Buddha is near the entrance. Worshippers and pilgrims may donate to adorn cloth over the reclining Buddha. Incense and candle offerings can be made at the main Buddha. The toilets are located at the entrance of the temple. There's plenty of parking.

Absolutely beautiful temple and one of my favorites during my visit to Ayutthaya. You can climb the steps to get a stunning view of the grounds. There's also a reclining Buddha who looks pretty comfortable. While wandering around, I crossed a bridge and ended up in a place filled with rooster statues. Not just a lot of roosters but the most roosters I've ever seen. It's quite a sight.

I recently visited the Wat yai Chai Mongkhon in Ayudhaya during a trip to Thailand and it was an amazing experience. Also you will see a real Thai culture that relate to religious How Buddhist influences to people believe. During our visit it‘s 37 degree but it‘s calm and peaceful you won‘t feel any humid and heat because of a tree shade and a wind.

Nicely upkept 500 year old temple .. Entrance is free for locals and only 20 or 30b for foreigners. Not too crowded, peaceful temple and very beautiful during sunset. Car park is ample.

Beautiful place, great for strolling, pictures and reflection. If you are passing through this is a must stop. Do expect a lot of native and foreign tourists while visiting, also it’s quite open and quite a few stairs to climb so be cautious about the weather. The ancient temple of Ayutthaya prefecture. There are 3 zone for visit. First, the original temple which ordinary, mystery and calming. The history described the temple was built in 19xx A.D. the king in that time was fight with the enemy while the soldier support come to late. The king decided to punishment but the monk please to stop those penalty. This is the monument of peaceful memory history. Second, the building for praise the king Naresuan. Third, you can feed the fish and turtle in the small swamp beside of temple. The tickets free of charge.

I would mark Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon as a must-go destination of Ayutthaya. Did not know too much about the temple, but anyway all the literatures can be found online. What you should do is take a look at those great heritages. This temple is relatively well-mantianced compared with other temples here in Ayutthaya. Entrance fee for foreigner is 20 baht, free motor parking, spending at least 1 hour here is absolutely worthy.

Another amazing temple, the day that we visit the temple there was a lot of people, also there was a private ceremony. You need to be hydrated because this area is very hot.

We started our Ayutthaya trip by visiting first Wat Yai Chai Monkhon which is a Buddhist temple area combining old and new. The old of Wat Yai Chai Monkhon is not so much ruins as other old Ayutthaya temples, so visiting there is rewarding even without historic knowledge of the Buddhist past. And the old in Wat Yai Chai Monkhon has been preserved or restored well, so it's a real joy to walk there. On the other hand, the Wat is very popular, because it is the main attraction (or one of them) in Ayutthaya. All tourist buses stop there; so, even though it was Friday when we visited there and when local people are mostly at their jobs, the temple was quite rushy because of tourist packs. But after all, Wat Yai Chai Monkhon was the most fruitful temple of our Ayutthaya day.

One of the marvelous places for me. Be careful of dehydration and heat during the day, as it's very hot in the areas of the temple. There is a grand lying down Buddha, and the great pagoda.

By far the best ones I've visited today in Ayutthaya. You can climb up the stairs going to the wishing well. I love that there are no sellers on top and just people looking and dropping coins. It's not too many people going when we went there in midday. This is also the most well-preserved temple we've been to in Ayutthaya.

A really beautiful temple complete with surrounding stone Buddhas, ruins, reconstruction work, and a very imposing tower. It costs 50 baht to go in (or buy the national park pass for 220 baht and enter 7 temples) While you cannot go up the tower, there is a lot to explore. Across the way you can rent some period Thai clothes for picture taking. Bring a nice camera for that...or just for the historical magnificence. Enjoy. Light and aloha 🙏🏽🤙🏽

This temple is design on Cambodian temples, is under restoration since many parts of the temple is very damaged. But the temple still beautiful. We were so lucky that on the way out the temple we had the time to appreciate a local musicians playing their local music, it was very fascinating.

One of the most famous historical temple in Ayutthaya. As know as temple in Thai local drama series. View from the river side is very nice. In front of this temple has some rental shop for ancient dress for photography.

I was surprised when standing front of this place. Good place to visit, especially in afternoon cause you can view river front of temple. Can enjoy the boat tour as well. In afternoon,time of sunset, you feel so peaceful when listen many birds's sounds back their nests. Peaceful in countryside! The attractive point in ancient capital!

Nice historical place to visit. Reasonable well preserved. There is an entry fee so bring cash. Free umbrella is available against the son as it becomes very hot in day time. You can rent traditional wear to click some authentic photos. Define nice to spent some time. Can get crowded so if you want to have photos without people you'll have to time it correct and be patient.

Fell in love instantly with this place and I would get obsessed to live next to here if it's not too hot and humid. Really liked the cafe with Aircon and clear view of the Wat (even tho it's quite pricey). Recommended to visit with a guide so that you'll learn the history of the place.

Bought a private tour online and our tour guide is great and lets us explore by ourselves and tells us some random facts and helped us around. No shelter except for entrance area and toilet need to pay but overall a good place for photoshoot and explore ruins. Wouldn't need to spend too much time there in general. Can buy food to feed those poor doggies

This is probably one of the most famous temples here as it's been featured in several Hollywood movies such as Mortal Kombat. It's a very beautiful site with plenty of interesting features. It seems it's always used for events as when I was there, a crew was installing lights. Costumes can be rented outside if you want to have your photo taken in costume at this beautiful site

Tickets for Thai people 10 baht but foreigner 50 baht that injustice😒. But I like this place very sanctuary and quiet. I think in 1995 this location use "New line cinema 🎥 " company for movie Mortal Kombat 😀 film of my childhood😇😇😇. Here really nice view.

Many visitors were wearing Thai traditional clothes that can be rented at the shops near the entrance (opposite the road). With or without the costumes, it is a great place for awesome pictures. The temple ruins are next to the river and I noticed some visitors arrived by boat. There are restrooms near the entrance.

This ancient buddhist temple dates back to 1630. The structures are very beautiful especially the large one that looks like a rocket ship. There are shops to rent traditional Thai costumes across the road. A great spot to take photos and appreciate historical architecture.

An ancient place full of ancient temples that have been at least partially preserved. It would be interesting to find out what actually led the ancient builders to build these types of buildings, what or who inspired them. Those buildings subconsciously resemble spaceships, at least the largest building in the middle. It's a shame about the destroyed statues, where the upper part of the body, mainly the head, is missing in the vast majority. It is said that in the past gold and the most valuable things were hidden there, it is not surprising that it attracted conquerors.

A serene historical temple next to a river. There is a restoration work carrying on now. The temple compound is big. Many Thai traditional costumes rental store next to the temple, so you can see many visitors are wearing the traditional costumes to visit this temple. It got a really cool vibes here at the sunset time. There is also a cafe near the entrance of the temple.

Ancient temple which amazing architecture, where is reflect how was great and glow of Ayutthaya era. You can found a familiar architecture in Kmer but different landscape design and purpose. Opposite of the place have a costume rental shop in cheap price, but elegant in picture.

Very impressive experience. Some parts of the temple have been under renovation, but mostly, you still can go and look around. You should visit at the time before sunset about 1-2 hours, so that you'll get some nice photos with moderate and natural light. ❤❤❤

This place is nice and seems it maintains way better than the other scenic spots around. It was crowded but it’s also spacious. And so, you won’t feel there are many people around you. A Khmer style Buddhist monastery built in the order of King Prasat Thong of the Ayuttaya period, to serve as a memorial for his beloved mother and to accumulate merits. Though the buildings have been destroyed in the Burmese wars and being left abandoned for hundreds of years, the sophisticated carvings on the buildings can still witness the beauty of the monastery in it's form. Some of the sculptures on the wall depicted the life of the Buddha. Mostly destroyed and abandoned during the Burmese wars a few centuries ago in the Ayutthaya era. It's now no longer possess any monastic function, now the ruin has been left as a cultural heritage. Visited in August 2023.

A line of shop outside to rent traditional Thai outfits to take photos at this location. There is a program to "restore" the location but at the moment it looks to be doing more harm than good.

Entry was free from December 20 - January 5 2024 for the new year. I liked that there was a route that you can follow to see the site, but I was missing some explanation for the points of interest. There were seating available a little after the entrance. It could be hot on a sunny day as there are not many shaded areas.

I booked a day trip from Bangkok to Ayutthaya through Tripadvisor with Big country experience. I absolutely recommend! We met up at River city at 7:00 for check in and departure was 7:30 in minibuses. Our guide was named Sam and he was such a great guide! Good information, well planned stops and many laughs. Important to know is that even if it’s ruins you need to cover shoulders and knees. Four beautiful and impressive stops, including a tasty lunch between the third and forth stop. We were back in Bangkok at 15:00.

Wat Maha That is a must-visit for any tourist in Ayutthaya, Thailand. It is a beautiful and historic temple that is well worth a visit. The temple is stunning. The main chedi is particularly impressive, and it is surrounded by a number of smaller chedis and statues. The temple grounds are also very well-maintained, and they are a great place to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Wat Maha That is also a popular tourist destination due to its role in the Thai drama "Love Destiny" . The temple was featured prominently in the drama, and it has since become a pilgrimage site for fans of the show. I personally loved Wat Maha That. It was my favorite stop in Ayutthaya, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

Beautiful temple complex. Included in the 6 temple ticket. It gets crowded because all the tourists come here and there's a clothing rental across the street and visitors can dress up in traditional clothing and take pictures.

This place is a major landmark in Ayutthaya. First of all, there's a temple with a big golden Buddha statue in it at the entrance. It looks like the newer structure. Second, the reason most people visit is because of the ruins of the temple on the ancient palace grounds. It's a very interesting place to visit and would recommend. However, they have a double pricing system, no matter if a foreigner has been living in Thailand for over 8 years.

Stunning UNESCO site, especially for such an old Thai temple. Definitely one of the more mind-tickling temple experiences I've ever had. Fun fact - this temple was ordered to construct in 1350 and only took 1 year to complete 🤯

Beautiful historical temple and it’s very well maintained. I like that there is umbrella available to borrow at the entrance so you can walk in the temple with cover. I got lucky it is a sunny day and windy. So it is nice to walk around at this temple. The compound is spacious.

A UNESCO World Heritage temple site with the location of former ancient Royal Palace beside it. Site has 3 grand stupas still standing after few centuries. At present, a Buddhist temple now exists on the other side.

Very nice temple. Lot of history. Many walking trails around the temple grounds. The three temple bells are nice survivors of the Burmese invaders. Then see the temple Buddah under repairs. Nice refreshment area for Pepsi and Coca Cola. Many interesting histories. Better with a tour guide.

Surprisingly not as popular as Wat Mahathat with tourists...I think this is far more spectacular. Certainly more pretty with breathtaking views throughout. Very hot and I recommend an umbrella for shade. Duel pricing exists throughout Thailand and entry is 50 bath for foreigners and 10 for Thai. I have no issue with this and mention only for reference. Very beautiful temples, I even think these are one of the most beautiful temples in Ayutthaya. These ruines are quite big so you'll be able to spend a good hour here. The only downside is you cannot enter or climb up the stairs on any of the temples.

A site next to and similar at 90% with Wat Maha That. Ruins except of three standing buildings which cannot be visited. If you have something better to do, skip it. We took a tour there for these sites and a flow market. My opinion is that if you don’t visit these sites you won’t regret it. If you’ve seen the photos you’re done.

The most important temple during the Ayutthaya dynasty. It featured three stupas and contained the remains of the king and prince. It was destroyed by the Burmese invasion in 1767, but was restored after the war. The pagoda in the daytime has an impact, but the pagoda illuminated at night time is also mysterious.

This has got to be the jewel of the site. it's stunning. it's spectacular. it's the photographers' dream!! it's so breathtaking that you could quite easily get emotional. Placing this up there with Ankor wat is easy, although on a much smaller scale, it's equally as awesome, I'm so impressed with how well this site is maintained with very few crude renovation attempts, it is simply architecturally mind blowing,

I recommend going early to enjoy an amazing walk in a well preserved and maintained park, very clean and the tickets are reasonably priced. Beware that there are no atms nearby so bring your cash with you.

Of the six temples on the combo entry ticket, this one was probably not worth a visit. Scenic, but just not as special as the other temples in the area. Note that there were ramps in place to assist those in wheelchairs. Also note that you can access the "ancient palace" on the same entry ticket as this temple.

We came here on a tour, and it was really fun. The historical society did a great job, you can walk around and read on each building and structure. There is also a Augmented reality app that lets you see how it was.

The ambiance here is truly commendable, despite the unfortunate incident of a fire. The establishment maintains its top-class status. A particular highlight is the majestic Buddha statue, which is a marvel to behold. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting this place primarily to experience the awe-inspiring presence of the Buddha.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet is ruins of a quite large temple area. The more one knows about Buddhist history and especially about history of Buddhist architecture, the fruitful is the visit there. A lot tourists - this is one of the places where Ayutthaya tourist buses stop.

One of the main tourist attractions in the city. Tour buses you usually bring their guests in this area so it can get really crowded. If you're looking for a place to connect and enjoy the ruins and the scenery itself, this place is not for you. It's included in the 6 temple ticket.

When we went in Feb mid 2024, we couldn't see the Buddha , was under renovation. Was disappointed. But beautiful temple surrounded by big Pagodas and for 20 THB you can light candle, apply gold foil on Buddha and offer flowers.

The highlight of this temple is the three large stupas standing alongside each other. Apart from that, there is not much else to see here. This is close to other temples, so it’s still well worth of a visit. Nice place to learn history. 👌

This is a large well maintained temple complex. There are three large chedi which are the main attractions of the place there is also a headless statue of buddhe that is worth a visit. The entry ticket is THB 50 for foreigners and it takes about 30-45 mins to complete the visit.

My wife and I loved visiting this place. It has definitely made me interested in researching the history of it. Everyone visiting Thailand should visit here.

Reclining Buddha at the end of a Wat dating back to early period of Ayutthaya. No entrance fee. Very calm atmosphere. You could get there on bike pretty easy. Gotta be careful on the roads though. Narrow country roads (asphalt). There are gift shops and mini supermarkets.

This is a large statue of Buddha in lying posture. The statue is being coloured yellow. People come here for worship. The place is also a popular tourist destination, bit further away from the main temple complex. One can take a cab/ bike/ tuktuk to reach the place. One can also cycle to the place. There are few shops there selling cold drinks and souvenirs. There are no shades here.. so if visiting on a sunny or rainy day, you may carry umbrella. People are expected to wear respectable cloths while visiting the Buddha. There are no entry tickets required for this place.

Secluded - especially on the weekdays. But definitely worth a visit as the place itself is like a mini park. The quaint landscape is serene as you can wander and take breathtaking photos. It can be a little hot though.

This was a wonderful and historic place to visit. My wife and I had a nice time walking around and taking pictures. This is definitely something everyone visiting Thailand should visit.

Seeing the smiling face of this reclining Buddha, despite lying under the burning hot sun, it's like telling us why we should find joy & peace during the difficult times. Probably because of the hot weather, it could also due to this is a relatively less famous historical sites, there was no other visitors around. This place is relatively empty other than the statue and a tall chedi near by. Regardless, this place worth the visit - for the history and for its significance in Ayutthaya history.

Free entrance. I was tempted to gave 3 star to this place, not because the statue was bad or something but because there was a Lady in this place removing offerings and shouting to tourist that make the visit a little unpleasant. Aside of that, this is one of the places that less tourist receives and it’s a shame as is one of the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand. If you are walking around Ayutthaya, bear in mind that the shortest route to this place crosses some alleys with strays dog that are nit that friendly.

You do not need to pay to enter here, you can see the ruins of an old temple and see both reclining buddhas. It’s good to spend a few hours. You can also see the buddhas face on a tree although I was told no one knows how it got there since it was abandoned and when it was discovered again it was already like that. It’s Free !!

You can complete the tour pretty quick, but it’s definitely worth to come cause the Buddha looks awesome, it’s even bigger than the Bangkok one.

This place do not require an entrance fee. It’s a much bigger reclining Buddha than the one at Wat Yai Chaimongkol. Less touristy too.

Very big pagoda with many time King and Queen visitting. The Buddha statue made from gold weighs many tons. The structures seem concrete with hundred of old trees diameter 1 to 1.5 meter. It beautiful but some how touristic. Nice to visit once!

Luang Pho To or Phra Phuttha Trai Rattananayok, Late U-Thong art, in the subduing Mara posture, sitting flat, lap width 14.20 meters, height 19.20 meters, material is stucco and gilded. Luang Pho To or Phra Buddha Tri Rattananayok or this Buddha image of the Ayutthaya people It is considered to be an ancient Buddha image, invaluable to Ayutthaya since the beginning of the city. The Royal Chronicle of the Old City, Luang Prasert Aksornnit edition, states that it was built in 1325 B.E. or King Ramathibodi I established Ayutthaya for 26 years, and when Ayutthaya was about to collapse, it appeared in the testimony of the old city that the great statue Wat Phanan Choeng has water flowing from his eyes which is amazing. Luang Pho To is one of the most revered monks among the Chinese people, known as "Sam Po Kong". The giant buhha, it’s so peaceful. The temple located right next to the main river call jaow pra ya :) enjoy the scenery!

Nice Chinese influenced temple, large temple compound with a huge sitting Buddha inside. Visited early in the morning, not too many people and parking is easy.

Exceptionally lovely and large temple. Luang Pho Toh (the prominent Buddha sculpture) is incredibly gorgeous and echoes sandy glares, you should come to glimpse it yourself here in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. There are sanctums for both Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism. The Mahayana shrines are outer at the riverside. The parking was manageable and the temple was startling.

This is a very beutiful temple. It is ornate and has an incredible Buddha Statue in the main building. There are also several other beutiful buildings on the grounds. They are well organized for the merit making business. The floor is marked with directional arrows. The available offerings are all marked with the price. Once you complete your offering inside, you follow the path to the area where a monk accepts offerrings and does a prayer and blessing for a large group of people at once. Outside the temple complex is a row of shops with souvenirs, touristy items, and lottery tickets, just in case you made a successful and meritorius visit to the temple.

A stunning golden Buddha! It costs 20 baht to go inside to see it, though there is plenty to do outside of the golden Buddha temple as well. Light some incense, place a lotus in water, and rub gold flakes onto a statue of your choice for a wish (according to a guide). Plenty of parking and shops outside as well!

Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan is partly under restoration, so the temple visit is not maybe as fruitful as it could be. The temple is what I would call new Ayutthaya contrary to temple ruins everywhere in Ayutthaya, and it seems to be very popular among Buddhist worshippers. A good place to stop, especially if you have got tired of walking among other temples' ruins.

This Buddhist temple was built around 1300s. Lots of influence with Chinese religion. It’s interesting to see how the Tao influence. The ceremony here is beautiful. We are here during their new year water festival. Lots of people come here to pay respect. Super interesting.

The image is in a meditation posture, measuring 14.20 meters in width and 19.20 meters in height. It is made of molded bricks covered with gold leaf. Luang Pho To, or the Buddha image of Tri Rattana Nayok, is considered an ancient Buddha statue, and it is revered as the guardian deity of the people of Ayutthaya. It is believed to be a sacred guardian since the establishment of Ayutthaya in 1468, according to the historical inscription of Luang Prasert Akson Nit. The inscription mentions that the statue was built in the year A.D. 1325 during the reign of King Ramathibodi I, the founder of Ayutthaya, 26 years before the city was officially founded. As Ayutthaya was about to emerge, it was prophesied that the great sacred guardian at Wat Phanan Choeng would shed tears of holy water. Luang Pho To is one of the revered figures, especially among the Chinese community, who refer to him as 'Sam Pao Kong.' We visited this Wat as part of a boat tour, Beautiful large Buddha, inside plus other smaller ones, didn't have to much time to visit, 20 minutes so didn't see a lot. Would recommend a visit if you are near by. 3btraveler

Free entry. Big beautiful golden Buddha is one of the famous Buddha in Ayutthaya. There are parking lot inside. The temple is located near the river. After making merit, you can go for feeding fish at the raft.

The building outside is nothing special but inside you have one of the biggest statues of Buddha. Really impressive. There is a fee/ donation of 20B for non Thai people.

Wat Phanan Choeng is a Buddhist temple in the city of Ayutthaya, Thailand, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River.It is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm.

This is a Viharn housing a large buddha idol. The place is well maintained having facilities for drinking water, washing hands, there are shops selling lotus just outside the Viharn. There are also umbrellas available for visitors. No ticket necessary. I visited the place in March and renovations were underway, hence could not pay respect to the large buddha. Overall a very peaceful environment.

Large Buddha statue. Cool to see. You can go inside and get your fortune read by shaking a tube of sticks. The fortune reading is “free” but a donation is recommended.

Very nice place to visit. We had a chance to see a group of students practicing a traditional dance so it was a good experience for us. The AR signage around the area around Ayutthaya was no longer working though.

From ruin to master piece!! This is a spectacularly restored temple with the most stunning gold Buddha. Remove your footwear, dress respectfully, and take a quiet stroll inside this magnificent temple. Around the inside, you will see the details of how the temple was destroyed and brought back from the ashes, literally!!

Heritage Temple ok Lord Budda. Situated at Ayutthaya Thailand. Nicely decorated building with East Asian architecture. A huge lord Buddha's statue is situated inside the Temple of golden colour. A true masterpiece! This temple has been impeccably restored to its former glory and now houses an impressive golden Buddha. As an active temple, it attracts pilgrims who come to offer prayers. Beautifully preserved and manicured, this temple area is a great stop on a whirlwind tour of the temples of Ayutthaya. To visit the outdoor temples, foreigners need to pay 50 baht. The indoor temple and Golden Buddha were free to visit (or at least I didn't see a cost...).

Super hot day. 6 April 2024. The largest seated Buddha is not available for viewing. It is still a nice temple to visit.

Ginormous building with a ginormous Buddha! Very neat place with respect to their worship, incense and offerings are available for you to pray and worship or pay respects while here. There is a shoe rack to place your shoes while in the temple. Outside there is a convenient and much needed refreshment stand also offering drinks, refreshing towel and ice cold soda water. My favorite! There are monks here as well on site. Neat place! Beautiful architecture too! No tickets are needed here however they do collect donations!

Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit is under reconstruction, so the entrance is limited and there is not much interestingfor a tourist, but one has in any case to go through this temple area if one wants to get to Wat Phra Si Sanphet, that is, to the ruins of very old temple.

It’s a wonderful site to visit plus it’s free so you don’t have to pay to! You can have a look at the temple and the ruins and after that you can head to the little market next to it. Prices are great and you can buy some souvenirs and delicious local snacks!

Temple was magnificent, not many people there. The path to the temple was really hot but you have a market with cold drinks etc. so its fine. If you plan to go around, I can recommend to take a look.

Don't visit this place of cruel elephants and exhibits of poor elephants moment by moment until they die for money. This is not a free space for elephants, everything is a lie. Shows only for people and tourists. They say they have free elephants with less contact with humans, but that is not true. Don't go there, please, don't contribute to these filthy and inhuman business where elephants are tormented. Tourists are the main culprits for the suffering of poor tormented elephants, because they give money to have fun like that.

A really wonderful place and the closest you'll ever get to Elephants and understanding their role within Thai culture. Truly memorable and an easy day trip from Bangkok.

I came into elephantstay with very little knowledge of elephants but have always been passionate about animals and was eager to learn about how they are treated, etc. As a result I stayed here for 3 days and I learnt so much more than I ever anticipated. The hosts made so much time for my partner and I, for example, they stayed up with us till late every night (even though they had work at 6am the next day) just to chat to us and make our experience fun! They were also so passionate towards educating us on elephants and Thai culture as a whole. They taught us how to speak words in Thai, how to respect the culture, and introduced us to some delicious Thai dishes. After spending a long time trying to choose an elephant sanctuary, we came across this village and it stood out to us. This village offers so much more than just an afternoon of bathing elephants which the majority of tourists are sucked into. They show you how to know when the elephants are happy or sad, what to feed them, how to communicate with them and so much more. I learnt that the elephantstay has the highest number of successful births, has been visited by Thailand royalty, and even has a vet who lives there 24/7 to care for all the elephants needs. Yes - you can ride the elephants which at first may sound unethical, however, I learnt that each elephant is able to happily carry up to 25% of its body weight but the elephants only actually carry around 10%. Also, I rode the elephant once a day for around 40 minutes which included swim-time for the elephant. Therefore, they are not being constantly ridden for hours and hours and giving rides to tourists is actually integral to preventing their extinction as it the main source of income. Not to mention, the elephants enjoy it as they get exercise and are able to eat as much food as they want along the way. I ensured that the elephants were not being exploited, as a lot of articles suggest, because I simply could not live with myself if I was involved in anything that was putting elephants in harms way. Many articles spread a lot of questionable information about the elephants as I have not been able to find any supporting research for what they are stating. I learnt that elephants would be extinct if they were not allowed to work, as work offers them a purpose and the exercise that they need to be happy and healthy. If they do not wish to work, they are not forced to do so at the Elephantstay which was music to my ears as it shows that the elephants are not forced to do anything they don’t wish to do. Therefore, I would recommend elephantstay if you are looking to create deep connections with the elephants and are looking to gain a genuine insight into the life of the domestic elephants of Ayutthaya.

There’s around 10-15 elephants in different sizes and ages. You can buy small and big basket of food and feed the elephants also take photos or videos. The price for food basket 50-200 bat (not expensive). All elephants on a chain for the safety of visitors. Recommend for visit, especially with kids :)

The elephants are beaten, chained all day to do tricks and give rides. Elephants are on extinct list. Even they were not on the list. They do not deserve this. They do not do all this. They are wild. Imagine 80-90 years of brutal captivity. Elephants are hit with sharps in head and they bled while giving rides. This is what humanity stands for, and give 5star reviews to. Think Again ??? Where is your conscience?????

In my time there I got to experience the fun-loving side of Thai culture and understand more about their respect for the elephant. All the food was amazing, and I had some brilliant mealtime chats. What an absolutely AMAZING experience! I spent an unforgettable few days at Elephant Stay to learn, care for and get hands-on experience taking care of these beautiful creatures. My elephant, Rumruay, a 50+ year old beauty and I got to meet each other the very first day. For me, this was a bucket-list item to live on-site and feed, wash, and ride her to feed, and water her in the river. Michelle and Ewa were gracious hosts who are passionate about the health, education, safety and preservation of these animals. I got a first-hand account of history of these animals, the care and everyday hard work of the mahouts, the health and welfare of these intelligent creatures. And, just how instrumental they were in the local recovery efforts of remains in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Better yet, I highly recommend spending a couple of days/nights at Elephant Stay with Michelle and Ewa. The food was very good, the company was fun, educational, and insightful. This is the best place hands down to soak up Thai culture and history, and to learn about the history and emotional bonds domestic elephants have with the Thai people. This is a very happy village and it only exists for the happiness of the elephants. These people live here, treat their animals like family, and work so hard to make sure the animals are physically and emotionally happy. There was no abuse. Why? Because an abused animal is an unhealthy angry one. What is the benefit in having an unhealthy animal? This place also has the highest birthrate, 80 some babies in 20 years. Healthy happy elephants give birth, thats just common sense for ya. Overall this place holds their mental health in high esteem and it really shows in the loving relationships I witnessed. This is a really interactive program, you care for your elephant, feed it, take it to different places to eat grass, take it to the river for baths, bond. The staff takes good care of you and are good teachers. Food is excellent and accommodations are too.

This is my fifth visit to Elephant Stay. To take care of your own elephant for a full week is an extraordinary experience and a unique gift. Elephant Stay is run by Michelle and Ewa beautifully where you are made so welcome while helping to conserve elephants and maintain their rightful dignity in Thai culture. This Elephant stay number 3. How I wish it was more. There is nothing better than being emersed in the Thai Elephant culture at this working elephant village. The friendliness that surrounds the village is infectious and this Elephant experience allows you to be helpful in a small way to the plight of these "GREAT" creatures and some small ones.These amazing animals are receiving loving and caring treatment. Will I return? Certainly will!

We loved our time at elephantstay. The workers truly care about the elephants and the education of the guests on the history and culture surrounding them. We had a magical time feeding, playing with, washing, and taking to the river different elephants. Lunch was provided and we enjoyed eating with Michelle, Lexy, and Eva. Tshirts were provided along with showers. Loved seeing how well they are taking care of such magnificent creatures. Highly recommend a full day at Elephantstay!

Entrance Fee: 50 Bath (included in the Ayutthaya Ticket Park - 220 Bath) It’s next to the complex with the Buddha Head statue in the tree, but this complex is in much much better shape as you can recognize old decoration, style and pagodas are completes.The main attraction is the pagoda in old Khmer style (you can climb and enter actually, so bring a torch if you’re interested). There is a excellent photo right at you enter the complex (only in the morning)

Wat Ratchaburana is one of the most popular temples in Ayutthaya Historical Park. At the end of the high season (beg. in March 2023) the place was not very busy in the late morning. About clothing code - guards did not say anything about my shorts and sandals. I recommend to take a cap or hat because there is a lot of walking in the sun. In the front of the temple, on the another side of the road there is Homglin, a nice cafe with Thai desserts. You can sit there and admire the view of temple.

Great ruins of yesteryear and the ancient capital of Ayutaya. Beautiful to walk around and imagine it as it once would have stood. Step still enable access to the highest point which offers great views down onto the ruins. Well worth a visit and at new year entrance was free but recommend going early to avoid the crowds

Wat Ratcha Burana, with 3 levels underground treasure hall, and in front of entrance, opposite side of the road, there are few interesting coffee, dessert and noodle.

This particular temple ruins surrounded by very positive energy. Cool buildings layout. Very peaceful place. Get a guide to explain about temple and its history. Must visit place in Ayutthaya city. Temple has a history related to Indian mythology. Only temple in Ayutthaya city where you can go inside the stupa. Rest all temples are closed and prohibited to enter.

This is another large Buddist temple ruin located in Ayutthaya historic Park. This beautiful site is located right next to wat mahathat. There is a hill like pagoda that can be climbed up to pagoda. Tourists must be very careful while climbing up. The view from the top is very charming. A huge green grassfield with red ruins can be viewed. For foreigners entrance fee is 50 baht, 10 for locals.

Of the six temples on the combo entry ticket, this one was definitely worth a visit. I'll let my photos tell the story. One note - there were ramps for those in a wheelchair to access the main part of the temple grounds.

What to say? It's a UNESCO world heritage site. Huge temple grounds, well maintained. There is another "next door" and many around the old city. Worth a ramble; much to see and marvel at.

Wat Ratchaburana is a very unique temple with its founding story and whatnot contains. It was founded in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II of the Ayutthaya Kingdom and built on the cremation site of his two elder brothers. The two brothers had fought to their deaths in a duel for the royal succession to their father Intha Racha. It’s also a sad story of how wars rip of history and cultures. It’s remains to remind us of what we miss forever in armed conflicts.

Foreigners 50baht, local Thai people 10baht, you could walk the steps up to the window place, ok that’s worth the ticket hahaha

Wat Ratcha Burana is right besides Wat Maha That. It's actually easy to walk over if you can stand walking under the hot sun. This fascinating temple is well preserved with the main prang in fabulous condition. Historically, this is a significant temple for the Royals.

Enterance fee 50 Baht for foreigner. Can be pretty hot during the day but they provide the umbrella for free. It's the Buddish temple. The temple is broken because of the war. You can still walk around and enjoy the view.

Visit there in October last year with my family, one of the ancient temples in Ayutthaya you should visit. We went there on weekdays in the evening, when there weren't a lot of people and it was perfect weather to walk and look around the temple. It seems like many foreign tourists would like to visit this temple because I met quite a lot on that day. Not to mention, I also got to meet this little cutie 😻 It's possible to drive a personal car and park on the side of the road in front of the temple though it may be a bit hard to find a parking spot when there are a lot of people visiting so another transportation option is to hop a three-wheeled vehicle.👍🏼

We enjoyed our visit here, there are some ramps for access, the cost was 50baht. The views are great from the temple and it is located in Ayutthaya historic Park with several other Wat's. You will find this located next to Wat Mahathat. The tall pagoda can be climbed. But be careful. 3btraveler

Absolutely stunning temple and one of my favourites. It is much less busy than other Wats and it is free entry. You can walk up the temple for an absolutely fantastic view, just remember to stay on the path and not to climb up the restricted areas. Highly highly recommend visiting this Wat!

A large off the beaten path victory monument. Entrance is free even for foreigners. After climbing the monument you can enjoy the view over more rural Thailand and also visit a small shrine in the monument. Really enjoyed my visit and when I went at 1 PM it was just me and two other visitors. Some small van vendors sell food, drinks and worshipping supplies.

One of the most famous temples in Bangkok. Origsaw it across the river, glowing golden at night. On this trip, in February, I managed to visit. It's magical. It's so beautiful and tranquil. I recommend it if you're in the city

A missed opportunity to market this as the Leaning Wat of Phukhao Thong. I was there around 10.30 and I was literally the only one visiting. Unlike the historical park, this is a fully functional temple. They put a modern steel roof over the ruins of the main hall. Something UNESCO would probably never allow at the historical park. There was a woman reciting texts in the main hall, locals consulting a monk and they are constructing a new monastery building. So if you have a bike or tuktuk in Ayutthaya, it's worth a visit.

When I visited this temple, it was not being restored yet, so you can clearly see the effects of time. Like many others said, I too like this rare white 50-meters chedi, for being one of its kind in Ayutthaya. Built in 1387, it's surprising to find out that still an active monastery. Located outside from the ancient city, this wat has less tourists and we get to have the whole place to ourselves. Highly recommended.

Love this temple! It was beautiful and absolutely worth a visit. I believe there are 79 steps to the top. Once you get to the top you can see the rice fields. There is also a beautiful cafe to have fresh smooties after. So peaceful! It is free to enter.

This is a very well preserved stupa. The climb is steep and long. The views are great and there is a wee treasure chamber in its core you can visit. The place is quite remote and surprisingly quiet.

This place is an epitome of beauty and human ingenuity. Buildings, sculptures that express beauty, can be seen by the human imagination. These Buddhist monasteries displayed happiness. The sculptures of the Buddha statue are amazing. We entered by taking five hundred baht tickets. The afternoon was hot so it was difficult to walk in the sun but it was nice to spend time in the six places.

Nice Temple with free entrance. We can climb 80 stairs to the top of it. From the top we can see really nice view of the surrounding. The toilet is clean.

The temple has been under renovation but the pagoda is fully accessible. There is a small buddha statue room situated inside the top of the pagoda, which you can access from a small entrance.

just 2-hours leisure driving away from Bangkok, we came to Wat Phra Ram. besides all the fresh air, we visited the site of the ruined temple. I felt pity that these ruined temples were the evidence of the brutal war hundreds years ago that probably destroyed the historical capital, the temple and the beautiful architecture, and perhaps the culture and the people too. sorry for being heavy.

Included in the 6 temple ticket. It's not crowded compared to the other temples around, especially the one across from it. You can walk around and enjoy the ruins of the tranquility of the area. There are also some shades you can sit.

A temple in the early Ayutthaya dynasty, which is said to have been built by King Rameswan in 1369. It is said that this is the place where the funeral of King Wooton, the father of King Rameswan , was held. The pond, which is said to have been dug by the order of the first king, is called the "Bun Phra Ram" pond and is currently being maintained as a resting park for Ayutthaya citizens. In the precincts, the Khmer-style corn- shaped tower is in the center, and the remains of the main hall and seven chapels remain.

Nice idea for day trip from Bangkok to understand more about the history of Thailand at this unesco site. However due to the proximity from the capital makes it sometime very crowded during peak season such as year end, which make the site more touristy than it should be.

This temple is a restored temple site and sits on the cremation site of the first Ayutthayan King. As I was walking towards this temple, I noticed a number of elephants walking on the sidewalk with tourists riding. I guess the elephant site is nearby. As with most temples here, you need to pay THB 50 if you're a foreigner

Wat Phra Ram is one of the furthest away from the train station. We started here. There are really tall pagodas here. An ideal starting point for your day trip in Ayutthaya!

Small but also beautiful surroundings temple. If you walk from Wat Mahathat, the entrance was kinda tricky cos it would be on the other side of the road. Easiest way you visit Wat Srisunpetch first and then come to Wat Phra Ram. It will be easier to get access.

Beautiful place. We visited around 10 AM and we were almost alone in the place. We bought the 'package ticket' which includes access to 6 sites in Ayutthaya Historical Park for 220 THB per person. You can easily spend 45 min to an hour exploring and taking pictures. Blasting sun can be an issue so come prepared!

Visited in September 2023 The atmosphere of this temple is tranquil and peaceful. No sight of tourist. Not a big place when compared to Wat mahathat. Have been left damaged and abandoned. No longer serving any monastic function, the ruin just remains as a cultural heritage. Overall, a nice place.

This old temple was built since the early phase of Ayutthaya Era. It is believed to be built in the early years of the reign of King Ramesuan, the 2nd King of Ayutthaya Era, in the area where the body of King U-thong, King Ramesuan’s father, was cremated. Since King Ramesuan’s reign lasted only 1 year, the construction of this temple is believed to be completed in the reign of the next king or King Racharhirat I; otherwise, the construction of this temple might be completed during the time when King Ramesuan accessed to the throne for the second time 20 years later.

Is a very nice area of ayutthaya to visit. lots to see very peaceful to walk around not to many tourists

Wat Na Phra Men is one of the few temples in the Ayutthaya Historical Park that were not burned by the Ava troops during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767. The temple is therefore still able to maintain its exquisite condition after many renovations during the Rattanakosin period. The outstanding construction is the ubosot (ordination hall)'s gable is featuring Lord Vishnu mounted on garuda, on top of the demon Rāhu placed between two nāgas and flanked by 26 devas. principal Buddha image is "Phra Khanthararaj" (พระคันธารราฐ), which is enshrined inside the viharn noi (chapel) beside the ubosot. It is a green stone Buddha image that is presumed to be more than 1,500 years old, from the Dvaravati period. Considered as one of five seated Buddha images in this type in Thailand which is worth preserved.[1] The temple is now a recognised ancient monument since 1935 by the Fine Arts Department.

Free entry. Free parking lot. One of the completed temple in Ayutthaya which hadn’t destroyed by the enemies in the past time. There are 4 mains different kind ancient Buddha. The biggest one is Golden King dressed Buddha. So beautiful.

Great energy! Very calm, not too touristy. Beautiful architecture and Buddha statues. I didn’t get to see the smaller one in the Viharn Noi on the right hand side of the main temple, which is built back from 1000 years ago (Tavaravadi period). The main temple has good energy, you can make 100 THB donation for the ornamental robe for the big Buddha statue. The pillars have 8 sides like Makka 8. There are black ancient stone gates in the middle of the temple engraved with anti-theft curse (!?) There’s also the silver Buddha statue in a small hall behind main temple; that one had been struck by lightening and is 500+ years old. Interesting place to visit when coming to Ayudhaya!!!!

This temple is incredibly beautiful and holds significant historical importance in Ayutthaya. It's not heavily visited by tourists, but it's definitely worth seeing. 🛕 🇹🇭

This museum shares the history of Sukhothai. It also predicates the importance of Buddhism, Hinduism, and the evolution of Thai scripts and consonants. It's a must for Southeast Asian historians, enthusiasts, researchers like myself, and those in security studies, politics, and international relations. If we want to learn why there are wars today, perhaps we need to understand history. I summarised in just two words, "greed-jealousy", that's spellbound in our exploits, even today.

It is one of the places where the most gold treasures are kept. Some of the various appliances are used by the King. Part about Buddhism If it hadn't been stolen Future generations will likely see all the true treasures and stories. If you come to Ayutthaya, you shouldn't miss stopping by this place.

More than meets the eye. Entrance fee of 150THB.. with an extensive collection of gold artifacts and art displayed in secure vaults. No photography permitted in the vaults. Slightly off the beaten track.. but still central to everything. Expect to spend about an hour here.

Surprisingly the most prettiest and well organized museum that I’ve seen in Thailand!! If you are really into Ayutthaya historical then you shouldn’t miss it here. The ticket for local is 30thb which is more reasonable than other ancient temple in Ayutthaya. They kept the remaining 20-30% of heritage gold that they found in the temple, the other remaining got stolen. Free ticket for senior over 60 ;)

Nice to visit this museum as its well maintained and modern and well-visited. The gold exhibition was cool to see. The cafe at the entrance seems good and they sell some local art and fashion

The main museum is closed for renovation, but there was a large exhibition of gold and reliquary artifacts found inside the surrounding temples. Very very well designed exhibits with informative descriptions. 150 for foreigners.
