The BEST vacation I've ever had and I've been to the Caribbean and Europe! You get everything from mountains to beaches to cute little towns to wildlife right in front of you. My mom just moved to ME which makes it easy to explore Acadia. It’s now one of my favorites. The views are breathtaking. Sometimes it’s foggy, which gives it this spooky and mysterious vibe. The beehive’s summit is my favorite trail so far. It overlooks sand beach. I would love to explore when it’s fall and the leaves are different colors.

Recommendation: Plan in advance to secure accommodations outside the park and your "must do" activities. A little bit of preparation will be worth the journey.

Don’t expect to see much wildlife, and avoid the heavily trafficked loop road during peak tourist season - unless you want to spend time on a parking lot or walk shoulder to shoulder with thousands of visitors. One of the prettiest National Parks I've visited. I loved being able to climb Cadillac Mountain and greet the sunrise. Otter cliffs were stunning. Jordan Pond was picture perfect. We were lucky enough to visit during peak fall foliage and the park did not disappoint. My husband and I have been to many of the National Parks, and Acadia is up there among our favorites! We spent a couple of days hiking around in mid-October, and it. was. breathtaking!!! The air smells and feels so fresh, the landscape is dramatic, and the wildlife is incredible. We saw bald eagles, seals, and deer. If you head to Acadia, I’d definitely recommend taking some time to walk down to the sand beach! If you walk all the way to the left, there are some tidal pools and grassy spots. We spent a lot of our afternoon laying in the sunshine and looking in the tidal pools. We also loved hiking around Otter Point! Gosh, I can’t put into words how stunningly beautiful the landscape is… if you’re thinking of planning a trip to Mount Desert Island, think no more!! Do it! It’s amazing.

But if you plan accordingly with alternatives/backups for traffic and/or weather situations you can have a fantastic time. We could say so much about Acadia! But I’ll keep this short: - Amazing hikes, they are short, some are exposed with ladders and narrow ledges. They offer incredible views on the ocean and they are very very scenic. Jordan Pond, beachcroft path, precipice trail, beehive, good classics! - The park is so clean, campgrounds are nice if you can book a spot, you can either go hike in the mountains or hang out on the coast. - If you can bring bikes, the carriage road is so much fun, gravel road with scenic views, no cars. One of the best park I’ve been too. They don’t have the big and tall mountains, but they don’t miss it!

I have traveled over the entire United States and Acadia is by far one of the most magical places I have had the pleasure experiencing. You could explore this place over and over, and I would be willing to bet its beauty would forever be shocking, inspiring, and uplifting. You will not regret traveling here and you will definitely want to stay. I would recommend staying in bar harbor, if you can afford it, and hiking every trail you can. The Bee Hive Trail was my favorite and looked beautiful with the fall leaves. I went the second week of October and I think one more week would have been perfect to allow for more transition.

My family and I stayed in the area for a month exploring this great national park. There was so much to see and we still did not have enough time to get to everything. With that being said, the things we did see were magnificent and the wonder that surrounds the trail in this park is amazing. Took a 2 hikes: beachcroft trail up most of Chamberlain mountain, sandy beach. What an amazing beach! The geology is super interesting compared to the south's beaches. Lots of triangle rocks, as well as some sea glass. Also visited thunder hole at low tide. It was still amazing. You can see how the tide booms in at high tide.

Beautiful. The landscape is breathtaking. I have been here at various times of the year and I am never disappointed. Just make sure you bring appropriate clothes. Get here early. It will take you all day to see all the sights that are here. While you can DRIVE everywhere, you WILL want to get out and walk around and become involved in this remarkable piece of nature. Acadia is one of my favorite Maine places to visit over and over. I hike here year round in every type of New England weather. This park is loaded with endless options for hiking the trails and carriage roads. A daily, weekly, or annual park pass is required to enter this Park. The Jordan Pond House is the only cafe inside the Park (that I am aware of) that serves food and drink. Bodies of water here range ponds, streams, lakes, and countless access points to the Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to check the official Acadia NP website to catch any road or trail closures. The autumn foliage here is absolutely stunning during October. The scenic drive on Park Loop Road within the Park (on Mount Desert Island, aka MDI) is approximately 25 miles long.

This was our favorite part of Acadia National Park. The pictures are from the East Trail, our favorite. Parking is tough, because there is room for only 4 cars across from the trailhead and it's a one-way road so you can't backtrack if those spots are full. We went in mid-October when the crowds were gone and most businesses had closed for the season. Be sure to visit the Schoodic Institute. It's a beautiful building and has an interesting history.

Much better than the loop Road in Acadia. It was not crowded and there were many spots to pull over and take pictures of the water and rocks. Visit Winter Harbor on the way and see the fog that hangs around town. If you are from the northwest, you will think that it looks like a snowstorm coming in. I thought that was why it was named Winter Harbor. However, I was told that it was because the Harbor is deep and doesn't freeze in the Winter months. A nice break from the crowded craziness near Acadia/Bar Harbor.

This is a great way to enjoy the power of nature of the beauty of Frenchman’s Bay which is off of Bar Harbor. Just watch the boat pass by or see the seals jumping in the water. This can be a very relaxing way to enjoy your trip to Bar Harbor. There are also many companies that will give you a Bay ride.

Went fishing off a boat by jigging. Caught mackerel, pollack, cunners, cod, and a toad fish! 3 of the cod were over 16.5 inches long. The scenery is beautiful and you don't have to be that far from shore. We saw tons of seals and several porpoises. We used the private fishing tour option from Acadian Nature Cruises with captain Carlos- he was wonderful.

Village Green is a nice place in the Center of Bar Harbor that has surrounding Restaurants, Ice Cream shops, coffee shops,and shopping. It holds craft shows, music and other things throughout the summer season. Nice place to relax and have a picnic,read a book, laptop work, or just relax. The restrooms are also near by. With all the hustle bustle in Bar Harbor, Village Green offers a green respite in the middle of the central commercial corridor. There are some benches and some memorials to view within the park. As a former NH resident & current Washington resident, I was very curious about this exhibit. I’m somewhat familiar with WA coastal native tribes so this opportunity to learn about this east coast’s tribes was exciting. Wonderful!

A great museum that I highly recommend. Beautiful and modern exhibits with some changing content. Listen to speakers in local languages, contemporary music, and two short films. Very friendly staff. It's amazing how much is in the space. Remember to go downstairs too. I had wanted to see the large room but it was closed.

An extraordinary place. The minute you walk in, you feel fabulous energy. The Museum is bright with light color wood decor. A timeline shows you the life span of the Wabanaki indigenous people's lives on the East Maine Coast. Beautiful displays of artifacts intermingled with contemporary art showing how traditions are being carried on.

Meh. Not worth the $10. It’s small and underwhelming. I guess I guess I gave it an extra star on account of the fact that it’s cool they support the local native Americans. But to go just for that isn’t the best idea. They need to put more on display for the price. It should be two dollars to get in. That’s all.

For a fairly small museum you do get to learn surprisingly a lot about the natives who lived in the area. Lots of items to view, small area for the kids to play which was a nice thing to see, and the place was super clean.

Instead of relegating Native arts and experience to the past, this indigenous-run museum shows how the original inhabitants of Maine are still very much present. Informational boards on the wall clearly delineate the various nations under the umbrella term “Wabanaki” and I loved a large wall map showing what the Wabanaki lands looked like, sans recent national borders. In the exhibit that was up when I visited, everyday-use items like canoes and tools and baskets looked to be so carefully wrought as to be works of art themselves. My kids and their friends loved the museum, and one said it was his favorite museum he’s ever been to.

There's something for everyone to learn here and the exhibits are clear, engaging and creative. In the shop there are a range of things to buy including beautiful artwork by native artists.

Very interesting and informative museum which outlines very well the history of Native Americans in Maine and neighboring states from precolonial times to today. Also has a gift shop. The museum is relatively small but makes good use of space. I would recommend this museum.

New owners! Open in 2023 after being closed for 3 years. Family friendly. Kids loved it, especially 4 & 6 year old. They had a real boat inside to play on and ‘catch lobster’, tanks to see crabs, fish, sea stars, lobsters, etc. plus a touch tank. Also a real whale skeleton and local artifacts. Employees were all friendly and knowledgeable. There was also small trail outside. We spent a total about 2 hours here.

On the pricy side and a little run down, but the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They run their own lobster hatchery which I found particularly interesting. We brought our young children and the amount of sitting and talking involved was a little much for our youngest (1.5), but our toddler loved the touch tank. Go early to avoid the crowds during the summer, especially on rainy days. They offer veteran discounts but don't advertise it.

The bigger kids loved playing with the lobster boat and touching the starfish. The youngest loved playing with the sand and the boat playground. We enjoyed the story along the marsh path. You may want to consider bringing bug spray as there were lots of mosquitoes along the marsh path.

This was a fun little place! Consists of a small museum, a small aquarium with a touch tank area, and a few short trails to see the local natural habitats. Talked with Scott at the museum portion for quite a while. He's a super nice fella and has a wealth of knowledge! His former students provide many different artifacts and exhibits for the museum, and some of the items are over a hundred years old! The touch tank had sea cucumbers, starfish, horseshoe crabs, and many other creatures. They also have a blue lobster in one of the display tanks. Very cool place for a fun afternoon stop.

We have been going to Jordan pond house for over 40 years. This year was our worst experience by far. They removed the seafood bisque from the menu, one of the best items on the menu. The service used to be top notch with students from all over the world. Our waiter seemed anxious for his day to end and it was only 12:30pm. We ordered tea and popovers, a staple for us every year, and the waiter came out with a 12 ounce tea pot with one tea bag for three of us. We barely got a tiny cup a piece. When we asked for more tea he said he would have to charge for 3 more cups of tea. But he did bring some more hot water to add to our spent tea bag. In the past every tea order came with your own pot and you usually were able to squeeze almost 3 cups out. What a darn shame, 2023 was my last trip to the Jordan pond house. RIP Jordan pond house!

Looking at a blue lobster was cool but I was fooled by the decent reviews. Worst part of the trip. I wish I would have skipped it and went home and napped. If you have the choice between napping or going here, choose the nap. Presenters are boring and tired and don't run on a schedule. Worse public speaking ever. Maybe cool for a 5th grade field trip for an hour max. If you're not traveling with small children take a nap.

We biked to this restaurant after cycling at Acadia. We split the full ribs platter. Excellent ribs. We loved this place so much we went back the next day. The outdoor seating is very relaxing and less intense than the touristy Bar Harbor vibe. The stout and porter were perfect after a long ride on a chilly day.

This was such a great space for our rehearsal dinner of about 40 people. My husband is a big craft beer guy and this was his favorite spot. We rented out the upstairs of the downtown location. Everyone was so fantastic. They were super responsive. Food was great, and there was such a variety for everyone. They made sure to pay close attention to my son's nut/soy allergy. We loved the buffet style. Beer was also fantastic! Service was top notch. The chef/manager even came out to check with us that everyone was happy with everything. They provided other drinks as well for those non-beer drinkers. They had music going for us. We also ended the rehearsal dinner part at a certain time and they allowed us to invite the rest of our guests for "welcome drinks", which was great because we didn't have to go anywhere. It was a kind of 2 in 1 space. Would absolutely hold an event there again.

5 stars, without a doubt 5 stars. This is some of the best BBQ ribs I have ever had. I have had BBQ in Kansas City, and St. Louis and Mostly Meat was better. The ribs were tender and juicy. I loved the sauce on both the chicken and ribs. I did not care for the potato salad but the baked beans out of this world. This should definitely be your first stop when you're in Bar Harbor Maine, trust me it's better than the lobster.

This is a great little brewery near and in Bar Harbor Maine. They do have 2 locations, 1 in downtown Bar Harbor (full size pub and restaurant) and another location a few miles away in the country, which is the location I'm reviewing. Anyway the country location is where they brew the bulk of their beer. They had 7 beers on tap and one meade to taste. We did a couple of flights to test them all and our favorites was the Coal Porter and Blueberry Ale. They also have all of these in bottles for sale. Finally they're parterned with Mainley Meats, which is an outstanding BBQ joint that's onsite. Anyway if you're in the area then definitely stop by.

Great place to go on a rainy day, but a lot of people get the same idea. The first 25 for each time slot get a free brewery tour. The tour was informative but brief which was very good because it gave more time to try the beers. After the tour you get to sample six or so and beers and the pours are generous. If you can't make the brew tour they also have free tastings available. There is some outdoor seating available but make sure you bring some mosquito repellent.

if you are in the bar harbor area, you will cross this park multiple times, across the Geddy's. it is an urban park in bar harbor. green space offers stunning views of the ocean and nearby islands, with a full 180 degrees of natural beauty on show from the northwest right around to the southeast. It’s probably the best view in Bar Harbor. it is a popular viewing point for tourists. locals say- it is a popular viewpoint to watch the Fourth of July fireworks each year. This is such a peaceful spot to look out at the ships anchored in Frenchman Bay as well as the many islands near Bar Harbor. Grab a space on the lawn to relax or have a picnic and enjoy the view.

This is a cute beautiful park where you could relax. It has a great view to the Frenchman bay. There is nothing much there in the park. Parking could be an issue over the weekends. This part of Bar Harbor is beautiful and full of activities to do. Shopping,food,entertainment, and so much more. Our favorite part was sunset where you can sit and relax or go on nice walking paths and even go walk down a bridge where you can be closer to the water and get amazing views. Parking:lots of spots to choose from and even if you aren't right next to the shops, there are many parking spots down the road and only have to go about .5 mile.

Parking: street parking along Wave Street (main road) don't take the side road down to the trailhead. Duration: took us 30min each way from parking to the summit at a casual pace to take photos and enjoy the views. Th last 150m of the trail ip to the summit is very rocky. Timing: only accessible 90 minutes before and after low tide

Very neat place to visit. I had never been to a tidal island before. You do need to be careful that you time this correctly. Dry passage is only available around low tide. Not the best for low mobility- the soft pebble ground is not the easiest to walk on. Once on the island, there is a short hike to an overlook to see back towards the mainland.

So fun… except we tried to drive our car down on the beach at the urging of a New Yorker and got stuck in the sand! 10/10 would not recommend, unless you’ve got 4 wheel drive. Good thing she was outspoken enough to get a bunch of guys to push our car out or else we, along with our rental car, might still be there. Or washed out into the bay, which might not have been too bad lol! Go at low tide, look under rocks for starfish and under seaweed for crabs, you won’t be disappointed! We even found a hermit crab(we let him go of course). Spent hours here, which just flew by. I did find some beach glass, not much though.. cool mollusk shells abound though, along with tons and I mean tons of snails.

Great little hike with a good view of Bar Harbor. You can cross to here around low tide, it's easy to cross up to 1.5 hours before and after low tide. I recommend not wading through any water and just waiting for the water to recede more, then you can just hike right up to the summit here. It's a very easy hike, no more than 20 to 30 minutes round trip.

Very welcoming atmosphere. Our host, Eric, provided great detail and insights into how wines were characterized and adds other pairing information to the discussion. They have made chocolates that pair with certain wines including a Reisling matched to a milk chocolate with orange and cranberry. Fun experience. Sitting under a 100 year old moose was interesting since we don't see them in VA. Location has outdoor seating if the weather accommodates. Coffees, mustards, crackers, and jams are also available. This tasting room also has a chocolate room with various offers from chocolates. Worth a stop on your travels around Bar Harbors venues if you. An spare the time and want a wine tasting. Even the blueberry-apple hard cider was one of the best I have tasted.

My wife and I consider Bar Harbor Cellers our favorite winery. Blue berry wine (have to try the reserve version if you haven't already) is delicious. This place looks really sweet, and our group was looking forward to it, however a wine tasting with no food makes little sense at noon. The restaurant looks interesting and the six of us would have enjoyed the patio this afternoon, but we likely will not return. It would have been nice to know the hours. A huge thank you to the team at Bar Harbor Cellars as they let us come in for a tasting right after the 4:30 last seating and then talked to us for a good 20 extra minutes after closing. Paul and his team did an amazing job of making us feel welcome and telling us about Sweet Pea’s legacy on the farm. We did a tasting and very reasonable to pick 5 wines. Being the very end of their season, we hope to come back to try more of their wines someday. Our rockstars were the blueberry (extremely well balanced and not too sweet!), the Sangiovese, and the cranberry! We also bought a chocolate bar that had a sweat pea design on top - the dark chocolate, coffee, and blueberry in combination was outstanding. We did not venture into the cafe or other areas of the grounds but it all looked very nice!

Our impromptu stop here was one of the highlights of our trip! The atmosphere was beautiful. But the wine and staff are what really makes this place special. Normally I wouldn't give over 3 stars for a place that has to entirely purchase juice to create their wine, but they do a very good job. They have 4 white, 4 red, 4 fruit wines (3 were sold out), and one cider. You get 6 samples per tasting so Debbie and I able to try everything. I honestly liked everything thing I tasted with the possible exception of the cider, which was a apple/blueberry combination and was ok but seemed a little off to me. None of the wines were real dry and very smooth. The only really sweet wine was the blueberry, which we expected. Their tasting room is in a pretty nice converted barn and they have other local items for sale also. Anyway it's well worth the visit and unless you only like very dry wines you'll certainly find a wine you like here.

This place has a laidback atmosphere. When it's busy, you need to sign in for a tasting, if it's not - go right to the tasting bar. Right now you get 5 tastings for $12. With the exception that the blueberry dessert one (brandy like) counts as 2 pours. We also fo a small cup of chocolates to taste test at the end of the tasting. I enjoyed the reisling, cranberry, and blueberry. Kyle was a great host. Share information about the wines and gave us recommendations for food, beer, hikes, etc while we're in town. The bathrooms are outside the tasting room. Have someone go with you as the locks weren't working. There's a cafe on premise that's open certain hours. It was not overly busy while we were there and while there were people use all parts of the winery, we didn't need to wait for anything. Outdoor and indoor seating. This place has a great vibe.

When in Bar Harbor you want some diversions to enjoy your vacation and Bar Harbor Cellars Winery offers just that. While they have a few rows of vines, the grapes are not grown at the Winery. The winery offers a very nice atmosphere to sip some of their wines. I believe connoisseurs will find the wines come up short. One irritant is check out where the line can be very long and disappointingly slow. Staff and servers were pleasant.

We did the Lulu boat and the girl was great 👍🏼 Keep in consideration this is Maine and you will be out in the water so you may need: jacket/sweater, sunblock, sunglasses or hat. I highly recommend passing by this Lighthouse, whether by purchasing a boat tour ticket or otherwise. Boat tours will not get too close so as not to disturb the wildlife, but you still get plenty close enough to see lots of birds (including bald eagles) and seals.

There are 12 Tiffany (1886 - 1907) stained glass windows in St Saviors Episcopal Church (+ 18 other artists). Brochure provided lists Windows by Number (not user friendly Methodology). Windows are spectacular. Very peaceful. Open to public. Church is American Shingle Style. In early days, 1000s of summer folk attended services here. An attached small cemetery has a central statue commemorating "Eden" , the original name of Acadia Island.

Stunning and extremely historic church. Many extremely famous names called this is their church while visiting or staying at Bar Harbor. There are quite a few Tiffany’s Stainglass windows here. They leave the church open and on Sundays right after church offer free tours which I highly recommend – you learned a tremendous amount about the church and the parishioners and the island itself. It is really quite beautiful!!

It seems silly to "review" a church: Just wanted to post to let folks know the stained glass windows here are worth a visit, some made by Louis Comfort Tiffany. When you enter via the red door, to your left is a small table with pamphlets that describe each of the windows, so you can make your own tour. Before you leave, there's a donation box under the big Rose window and they recommend a $5 donation if you feel so moved. The cemetery next door is also worth a few minutes to walk around, IMHO.

I always enjoy older architectural structures while visiting a location. Bar Harbor offers St. Saviour’s church where you will find a wooden structure built in the 1800s. In New England you find many white churches, but this one is natural wood.

Beautiful, well taken care of. A nice church member was out front watering plants where they had just recently put in a wheelchair ramp. There is a real peace inside this building with lots of history.

Beautiful lake within Acadia. There is a very good trail around the lake which is perfect for biking. Natural forest, feeder creeks and boulders create a perfect atmosphere for walkers, photographers and outdoor enthusiasts. If you are in Bar Harbor you should not miss a visit to this lake.

During the winter months, you can walk with cleats+, cross-country ski, etc., on the carriage roads, as well as skate and ice fish, and you may see deer prancing by while on the carriage road. During the spring, when flowers start to bloom on certain portions of the trail, the smell is overwhelming. During the summer, if you're not a sunbathing person, walking under the trees on the paths might be your thing. Then of course autumn, when the trees turn to vibrant fall colors, you will not notice how far you have walked, because the view all along the way is so spectacular. Then of course the sunsets at various viewing points are grand. I am sure the sunrises are also beautiful, but some people are not morning people.

We biked the carriage road around the lake. There were decent hills all around the lake and it was quite the workout. We did this and then the Ocean Path and my legs were sore the next day. Lots of nice views of the lake and forest and the carriage roads are very well maintained. Packed gravel path that was doable with my road bike, but definitely better suited for a gravel bike or mountain bike.
