This Museum is AWESOME. For everyone who wants to know about Abraham Lincoln's life, I highly recommend it . Mostly, don't miss none of the projection shows. We weren't able to see all due to some technical issues they are having that day and one show was cancelled. All the museum's employees were great. Thank you

Nice museum about Lincoln. Entry price of $15 is too much. Loved the life sized statues of Lincoln and his family. Presentations were nice and creative, but I wish they had more details about his life and growing up. Cafe closes at 3 pm, I wish they had it open longer. There is street parking but the coin slots were not working. There is a parking garage a block away. The merchandise shop has a lot of unique stuff but is overpriced.

Made my semi-annual visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum this afternoon and it never seizes to immerse my curiosity and attention. Very cool being able to view an original copy of the Gettysburg Address written in Lincoln's own hand. The two theater shows are both absolutely incredible. Both sections of Lincoln's life are fabulously brought to life. As an historian, I fully appreciate every aspect of this museum and can't wait to return.

Really nice museum. It has a ton of stuff to look at, very well presented. You will learn things you never knew. Covers Lincoln’s life from his childhood to his death. There are a couple shows that are worth a watch, too. Kids and history buffs alike will enjoy this.

This was such a fun experience! I haven't been here since I came with a field trip. Today I got today take my children through the museum and share those experiences and memories with them. Our kids are 9 and 11 and both found the museum and theatres very entertaining and educational. We really enjoyed how Lincoln is portrayed as a real human with flaws, as opposed to just "the legend". My only critique is the Cafe. There was little to no selection for food ,( I think it was just hot dogs, chilli for dogs, and pulled pork?) Only throwing that in for parents with young kids who are picky. We also visited on a Thursday morning, so that may have played a part? Either way, it was an amazing experience, highly recommend checking this out! There was a traveling experience for you've kids(10 and under), and we didn't check that out since both kids couldn't go in.

Went for the first time today and it was wonderful! There is so much to read and learn that I’m sure I missed a lot! The exhibits are wonderfully done, so many beautiful things to see. They have many authentic pieces behind glass and they had 2 amazing short shows today, they were so neat! Definitely not what I thought I was walking into. The staff was very nice, helpful, and informative. I will definitely be back and I’m sure I will find a ton that I missed! I also strongly suggest doing the scavenger hunt they provide, it makes you really look for the information and adds some extra excitement to it! They have an online version or a hard copy! Even the gift shop had a ton of cool stuff!! I couldn’t believe this experience was only $15! A really good price for the education and fun! The staff also informed us a new exhibit will be opening in March, I am excited to go back and see it!

I learned so much about Abraham Lincoln at the Museum. It was educational. I was very intrigued by the map that showed the progression of the Civil War, with the names of the battles and how much territory was gained/lost, and how many deaths. I didn’t realize how much heck he got from the press. There is a whole section of cartoons from the newspapers at the time of the elections through the Presidency. I also didn’t know that Booth was a fairly well known actor. This is definitely a must see! We did walk over to the Library too, but to look at the books you need an appointment. But there were a few things displayed around the main floor you could look at.

One of my favorite places to visit in central Illinois. My wife and I carried our 2 grandsons 12 and 8 years old and they loved it. Mitch Adams is our favorite volunteer. He loves Lincoln and sharing knowledge with others about this great museum and library. Well worth the trip.

This is a must do for everyone! The museum covers his life from his childhood to his presidency. You get to walk through a replica of his childhood one room cabin as well as replicas of the White House. The 3D show was great. There is tons of information and relics of the Lincoln family. I highly recommend this for everyone to enjoy!

It’s one of the best museum in town. We learn so much and had a one to one guidance with rich information about the president life, from his birth,his childhood, his manhood, his personal learning and self education, his family, his stressful but always forwarding life as a son, husband, father, lawyer and president. I feel impressed for his humbleness in every stage of his life

This museum was absolutely fantastic!! I was so impressed with the realistic exhibits. It was so informative. Very clean. The technology was amazing. The Ghosts show was just incredible. The people who worked here were kind and knowledgeable. The restaurant was clean. The gift shop was very large with a wide variety of souvenirs from which to choose. We came on a school field trip and had a wonderful time.

The Abe Lincoln Museum is really remarkable. So many exhibits and each with detailed plaques of information. There is two different theaters which have shows running all day which I highly recommend checking out. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the gift shop is full of unique items. This museum is my go to place just to be reminded of history or anytime I need some inspiration for a paper or book I am working on. I also recommend reading each exhibit and soaking in everything instead of just quickly walking through.

Loved it. Have always been a fan of President Lincoln (how could you not be?), but was super cool to see and read about his life and his presidency. In particular, I enjoyed seeing a handwritten copy of the Gettysburg Address! 100% would recommend stopping by when in the area!

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum was surprisingly very interesting. They had a couple of interactive theaters that lasted around 15-17 minutes each. An exhibit of how they thought Abraham was raised. That exhibit has a fun scavanger hunt. They have an exhibit of different presidents and their history. And, of course, the political life of Abraham Lincoln all of the way to his assassination. I would suggest calling ahead if you would like a group tour. Otherwise, you are welcome to walk in and pay. They don't allow food, drink, or gum. I would say to take a good 4 hours here soaking it all in. They do have a gift shop with interesting little things to buy like huckleberry syrup.

We stopped in here on our national park tour that we do. It was amazing it was very well done. The home is well restored and exactly like it was when Lincoln lived there. The staff at the visitor center was friendly and helpful and helped answer all of our questions. The movie is nice to see and well worth the time

Great site to tour. The tour guides were very knowledgeable. The home itself have quite a few period artifacts from the Lincolns personal collection as well as furniture used by the Lincoln family. This is the only home that Mr. Lincoln owned prior to moving to the White House. It is also where his children were born and died as well. It is best to get there early to avoid the large school bus tours that begin to show up as the day progresses. It is definitely worth the stop and visit. And it is free of charge.

It's a great place to visit for all ages. I visited this place during the spring break 2022 with my 5 year old toddler son. If you are going there for the first time, here is the few information: 1. Tour to Lincoln's home is free, but it is guided one. It leaves every 30 min, so try to put your name down as soon as you get to the museum 2. The parking is free and that is in front of the visitor center. No worries - there is enough parking spot. 3. If you are with kid, let your kid participate in the Junior ranger program... it takes only 15-20, but the fun part is they get certificate signed by the ranger and also a Junior ranger badge. This one is free as well. 4. Take a walk outside the Lincoln's home on the brick-road. You will feel you have gone 200 years back in time-machine.

This is a must see National Historic Site. You get to walk through Lincoln’s home. See his actual furniture including his writing desk. Also, walk his yard and neighborhood as it was in the 1850’s. It’s all well presented. Storyboards everywhere. The visitor center has a great movie and shop. I came here once before in 1968 for a grade school trip. The National Park Service restored it in the 1980’s so now it’s much better experience than the old days. Go visit Lincoln’s home

This was a great little stop on our road trip through Springfield. While you did have to pay for parking if you parked in the lot, which was inexpensive, the rest of it all was free. It was interesting to see and hear about Lincoln’s life and walk through his home. The tour guide was helpful and kind. They shared a plethora of information. Definitely stop by if you find yourself in Springfield.

This is a must do for anyone coming close to Springfield! You get to walk through the only home Abraham Lincoln ever owned! It is furnished with most of his original furniture. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Admission is free, you just have to get tickets before your tour. The parking lot is a pay lot. It was busy today so we got tickets for later in the day. That way we had time to go though the Lincoln presidential library. Which was excellent as well. I highly recommend everyone to come and enjoy this experience!

The museum and historic houses encompass a beautifully preserved historic area near the old capital building. Our tour guide was incredibly Insightful and knowledgeable about the site, and she was pretty cute too. You have to get a tour ahead of time in order to see the house but it is free because of Robert Lincoln selling it to the state for $1.. Lots of awesome history here definitely recommend checking it out

What a cool experience! I very much enjoyed visiting here. The old neighborhood is wonderful as well as the visitor information center with s very nice gift shop, movie theater, bathroom & lots of education. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Theres a guest book you can sign. Parking is $2. Tours are free.

Our family was privileged to have a wonderful park ranger lead the tour of Lincoln's home. He was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I didn't realize the entire block is a historic site and many neighboring homes are open as exhibits with artifacts.

The Lincoln Home National Historic Site was the first stop on our "Lincoln weekend" in Springfield. While born in Kentucky, Abe Lincoln moved to Illinois while young with his family. The home still stands, although much of it was restored and repaired. They did a fantastic job of finding period-specific furniture and furnishings based on drawings and photos. You start in their welcome center/gift shop. There is a brief presentation before you set out to see the house. It was a rainy day, but we did not let them stop us. The attached photos do the house justice, so I won't go into much more detail about what we saw. I already said I was impressed with the restoration and furnishings. Much of my comments are represented in the photos. This home is only a part of a restored neighborhood of homes. These were the homes of Lincoln's friends and neighbors. Many are open to the public. Because of the weather, we chose to defer this part until our next visit. This is a must-see for Lincoln fans and historians. It was well worth the price of entry (free).

This is a fantastic place to visit if you're interested in history. The tour guide is very knowledgeable and really brings the site to life. You'll learn a lot about President Lincoln's life and the historic significance of the site. One of the things that I really enjoyed about the site is how well-maintained it is. The grounds are clean and the buildings are in good shape, which makes for a really pleasant experience. The staff is also incredibly friendly and helpful. They're always happy to answer any questions you might have and make sure you're having a great time. There's plenty to do and see, whether you're interested in history or not. You can take a free guided tour of the site, explore the visitor center, or just wander around and take in the sights. Overall, I would highly recommend the Lincoln Home National Historic Site to anyone looking for a fun and educational experience.

After many years of wanting to visit, I finally made it. Not only President Lincoln's home but a other neighborhood homes are presented to help us recreate what it might have looked like in the 1840-60s. The tour of the Lincoln home is a guided tour by a park ranger so you get to hear interesting back stories that set the context. The house is well preserved, and I heard 60% of everything in there is original.

Really cool. It was around noon and the tours were already full for the day, so go early. Parking is 2$ and can only be paid via credit card. There is a visitors center with gift shop, rest rooms, theater, and water bottle filling station.

Nice Lincoln house in Springfield. It has been preserved in the same way it was during Lincoln times. It's not just his house but the whole street and surrounding houses have been preserved well. The side walk has wooded boards and roads have bricks. I would recommend getting tickets early as we went 1 hour before closing time which is 5 pm and it was booked out. They have a nice gift shop in the information center.

I would diffently recommend going here. You get to learn a lot about him and his family and friends. You get to walk around his town and see how he lived and what he did on a daily basis. My favorite part was going through his house and touching the railing that he touched. I think everybody would love to tour his house. It's really fun.

I’ve been to the Lincoln Museum and Presidential Library many times. I’m so mad at myself for not getting to his crib. The staff are all National Parks staff and they are wonderful, informative and helpful. The visitors center has a ton of info and a short on Lincoln in Springfield. The home is meticulously restored. Walking the streets of Abe’s neighborhood will catapult you into the mid 1800’s.

What a lovely National Park. Not only is Abraham Lincoln's hone super interesting and authentic, but the street is lined with historic homes and interesting information. When touring the home, you go upstairs and use the original handrail that Lincoln used...one of the young girls (maybe 11yo) in the group said "I am never washing my hand again, I touched where Lincoln touched." It was very cool. Shannon was our tour guide, volunteer, and she was great!! Worth the trip!!

Just being able to tour these homes is amazing. Thanks to the National Park Service for the work you do preserving our parks and our history.

This place just oozes history, thoughtfulness and serenity. A perfect resting place for an amazing President and his family. It is quite the experience to see and walk through. Humbling almost. I didn’t take pictures inside out of respect. Also good not to spoil it sometimes. This is a must visit on your Springfield Lincoln trip.

This is wonderful, free spot to pay respect to a powerful president. We arrived at 4:45 right before they closed, so it was a quick, quiet, peaceful visit.

At the Lincoln Monument in Springfield, Il, you can literally touch history. An humbling and awe inspiring experience, a visit to Honest Abe’s final resting place should be on any travelers agenda when rambling through the Land of Lincoln. Friendly and informative staff adds to this free admission experience.

Very interesting, well maintained grounds. The architecture was amazing. A wonderful tribute to Abe Lincoln for his final resting place. I didn't realize all he had accomplished in his lifetime.

The tomb is located in Oak Ridge Cemetery and there's enough signage that you certainly can't miss it. Or just follow the parade of school buses that are bringing and endless number of kids here to see it. That said, you will want to wait until after all the kids have been and gone through the inside. It is underground and there is nothing to break down the echo. I lucked out and arrived during a school bus gap so I mostly had the inside to myself to see the tomb and view the statues of Lincoln inside and read the quotes. I've been to the Lincoln Monument and I've been to Gettysburg. This was definitely worth it for me.

Very interesting (and quick) stop if you're a history buff. The memorial and tomb and the grounds are beautiful, well kept and the staff working there are very knowledgeable.

Great monument - enjoy the silence because when kids come it is going to be loud. Unfortunately no respect from the (american) parents to keep their kids quiet. Sad. But the monument itself is very nice!

Stopped on our road trip down Route 66 to see President Lincoln burial location. It was a great experience. I would recommend it to everyone.

A powerful yet somber experience and tribute to the Great Abe Lincoln. The ground are beautiful, the monument is wonderful, the caretaker was extremely friendly and welcomed us and thanked us for coming and encouraged us to take pictures. Please remember that this is the final resting place of a great President and to respect the grounds, the monument, and his resting place.

Finally made it, life long dream to visit! The closest you'll ever be to meeting this once great mind and man. The architecture is amazing. The statues are beautiful and be sure to take the free tour, they explain every detail. It was beautiful and peaceful. Not much of a crowd on this day. Cemetery is very old. Be sure to visit the Accordion King at the entrance and pay your respects. Also there are restrooms which is super convenient.

Very neat obelisk monument and grave site of one of the greatest Presidents. The grounds were very interesting and well kept. Frisbee golf is decent course. Great trees.

We were the only family there, so we didn't have to wait in the queue! This was simply a beautiful and humbling experience. The monument is well built. The first thing you feel is peaceful. Before you enter the tomb, there's a bronze bust of Lincoln. Make sure to rub the nose of the statute for good luck! Once you enter inside the building, you are greeted by the friendly volunteer. The interior design is quite posh- art deco style , and very very clean. There are few statutes, plaques and quotes, and a final resting place of President Lincoln and his wife and 3 children are also buried there. It's free to enter, free parking and there's also a washroom area near the car park. Oh, drop a penny behind the building near the window for another luck!

My first Frank Lloyd home tour. Tour guide was very informative on the history of its owner along with her philanthropist activities. The interior architectural design was extraordinary and futuristic for its time of construction. The tour is free, donations are welcome, no reason not to take advantage of learning and seeing history first hand.

95+% original Frank Lloyd Wright house only blocks from the Illinois State capital building. The state-landmark house is a living museum of the socialite Mrs. Dana. She paid Wright a lot for the design a little over 100 years ago. The home is filled with original furniture design by Mr. Wright that takes you back to his original concept. Lots of art glass as well. You need to make reservations online because they only have a few guided tours a day - takes about an hour. Our tour guide was great!

It's hard to put into words the beauty of this rare architectural treasure. I've done the tour several times, and there are new things to discover in every visit. The details of the home are impressive throughout. The art glass is astounding. The tour guides do a great job balancing the history of Susan Lawrence Dana's life while pointing out the particulars of Frank Lloyd Wright's design. Regular tours can accommodate up to 15 people and are totally FREE! Parking is easily accessible and can be found directly across the street from the house.

I have loved Frank Lloyd Wright houses for a long time and though there is one in the next city over where I live, it doesn't compare to this place. It's 12000 sq ft of lavishness with its windows and furniture and little extras all created specifically for design as well as function. It was interesting learning the history behind the house and its previous owners as well as its use as a publishing company. No interior photos allowed so you definitely want to take the tour.

Words can't do justice to FLW's vision with this home. Photographs don't come close to actually experiencing the design, room transitions, and use of light. We can't emphasize enough that you take time out from Lincoln sightseeing to visit this gem. Make your reservation s online to ensure you can take the tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and he really brought things to life. Photos are not permitted inside the home. You will not regret this experience.

Beautiful and historic. I strongly recommend a visit, it is free and so is parking across the street. They do request you get your tickets in advance, just go through their website. The glass work is stunning. I hope to attend their candlelight sessions this holiday season.

An early example of Frank Lloyd Wright architectural design and an interesting story of the owner who commissioned the work. A guided 1 hour tour, you have to get tickets online but they are free.

My husband and I enjoyed our experience at this wonderful exhibit. We couldn't have asked for a better experience of a Frank Lloyd Wright designed an architectural master piece with the stained glass windows. This beauty is definitely worth a trip if you are already in Springfield. If not, visiting is definitely worth a visit. It's an amazing piece of history that isn't explained enough.

Beautifully kept home with amazing architecture. Our guide, Amber, did an excellent job of informing us of the history of this Frank Lloyd Wright design. It's definitely worth a visit.

It is truly an amazing, eclectic, extravagant Frank Lloyd Wright home. An example of the use of the latest technology combined with early 20th century opulence. Construction details and extensive use of hand crafted art glass is astounding. Wright seemed to have free reign in designing this complex yet practical marvel. Our guide did a great job taking us on a tour (about 1 hour). The original owner had a huge inheritance and used the home for both entertaining and some community goodwill.

We visited Springfield with a daughter and husband to see our grandsons living there, and meet new great granddaughter as well as new grand daughter in law. We decided to take in the Lincoln Museum and Dana Thomas house. Our guide at the house was amazing..and she had only been there since August! She knew so much and the way she explained was so interesting. I would go back for certain!!

Great experience. This was the highlight of our weekend trip to Springfield. The tour guide was very engaging and you could really tell his passion for the history of the house. You must visit if you are in the area.

We have visited many of FLW’s buildings and this is right up there with Falling Water and Taliesin West. The glass windows were beautiful and the house was full of surprises around every corner. This is definitely worth the visit.

Visited in 2019, It was very cool to see the former capitol building of illinois and to see the desk that Abraham Lincoln would have sat at.

Visit the new Capital and then the old! Not elaborate whatsoever but still a very important building to the community! Artifacts throughout reminding you of its importance. Watch the video when you arrive.

The iconic older state capitol stands tall but it's closed for repairs and refurbishment.

Great knowledgeable staff is very helpful. Interesting history with well presented tours. FREE! They ask for donations, and it is worth it! Good displays, very thorough. The only original part of the building is the outer wall stonework. Everything else is reconstruction, but beautifully done.

I’d recommend visiting because this building is a snapshot in time. It was used for only a short period before the “new” state house was built. Also, it was built before electric or gas light, which is interesting to see from an architectural point of view (the windows are incredible). There’s a lot of interesting memorabilia and the staff is friendly. It would probably benefit from better signage but the staff is happy to answer questions and give the rundown on the building.

This place was gorgeous. I want to point out that sometimes people hold meetings there. We didn't know that so we didn't try to keep our 3 year old quiet. So just something to be aware of. Time needed for the self guided tour is maybe 30 minutes.

Cute little town. Lots of stores along main Street. Copper penny across the street from the capital is charter's patio where you can enjoy lunch. Bring your own and sit outside or copper. Penny will serve you if weather is nice.

This lovely old building is steeped in history and they let you wander freely! Head upstairs to take in the stately Supreme Court chamber where Lincoln himself argued cases and later laid in state. Gorgeous!

Review Date: April 11th, 2012 No no, Springfield is still the capital of Illinois. This is just the old capitol building The confusion between capital and capitol is one that confuses many people. Truth be told, I had to double-check to make sure I was using the right one while typing this post. I will remember it for awhile until the proper spelling fades to the unused parts of my memory and I will inevitable use the wrong spelling in the future. Then I will be back to looking up the proper spelling again and I can go through all this over again. Do you forget which spelling is which for this? Matt and I hit up a bunch of the big things to do in Springfield over a few different visits. It’s only natural to visit the old capitol building if you are exploring the capital. As with most kids who grew up in Illinois, the Old Capitol Building was probably one of your destinations during a trip to see the capital. I know it was a tradition for my school to come here during our grade school (3rd-5th grade) days. It was only fitting to return here as an adult during my traveling days. We had to park a bit away and hoof it to the building. Despite this place being a tourist attraction in this day and age, the area surrounding it is still busy with businesses and other government facilities. . We were able to explore the building at our own leisure. There is staff on hand if you have any questions, but Matt and I were comfortable with exploring the place at our own pace. You don’t need to be a government history buff to enjoy this place. It’s cool to walk past rooms to see where history was made and see how things operated in the past. I’m sure if these walls could take, they would have a ton of stories to tell. That’s about it. This is one of those places that is better to visit yourself or see a video of. Words just don’t really do it justice. It’s an experience that is more visual than anything and one you should experience if you visit Springfield. It won’t take up your entire afternoon. A simple stroll through it is more than enough.

Beautiful Halloween event at the Old State Capitol. My nephew and I were downtown to grab dinner and dessert but the roads were closed for the Halloween Parade. It was so nice to have the streets closed. It was quiet and peaceful.

nice museum lots of local/ natural history. no reason to go to the basement level if you're not with a kid

This museum was very nice. It has a lot of the traditional aspects of a museum, but they brought in some originality with the history of the Illinois area. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely consider this as a vacation activity.

Small museum; 2 floors of exhibits; great set up with the history of Illinois throughout. Ranges from the early geology and dinosaurs, to life from the first settlers up to the present. Took us about 90 minutes. Has a few interactive things, helps with kids. Easy to follow; generally a one-way path through it.

Class field trip. We enjoyed out time. The only thing u would recommend is having drinks people could purchase. It was only 76 out and we needed something to drink.

This place is free to get it. I parked across the street and it was the weekend so didn't pay for parking. You just see the people at the front desk they give you information about the museum. I really like the different floors. Main floor was science and Earth weather, animals. Audible videos to watch and learn, well put together displays. 2nd floor was more art and history with toys clothing furniture. Some in big displays and some in miniature displays. They had some toys from different decades so the kids to try to play with them. The lower level Basement was a kids area they had a book nook for kids to read, again different toys from different decades for them to see and play with they had a big dinosaur bone play area. Need a good educational free place for your family. Here it is...

Good museum. It was free which was a huge plus. Lots of information on the natural history of Illinois. Hands on activities to help make learning more fun. They had a large amount of information and the exhibts were well done. They also had a play area in the basement which my 8 year old really enjoyed. We spent about 1.25 to 1.5 hours here.

Review Date: July 31st, 2012 A museum dedicated to more than Illinois. Matt and I had no idea what we were getting ourselves in to when we decided to check out the Illinois State Museum. We set our sights on this place while trying to do all the big Lincoln-y things in Springfield. We had assumed it was just your normal museum dedicated to the state of Illinois, corn, and Lincoln. It was all that and much more. It’s hard to put in words how cool this place was. It’s also hard because it’s been over 8 years since we came here and my memory is a bit fuzzy on it. Who is to say the exhibits haven’t also changed or been redone since 2012. Any who, I will say that if you find yourself in Springfield and love awesome museums, check this one out. There is a lot to see pertaining to Illinois but it’s all so super cool and really well done. One of the best museums I’ve ever experienced. I know this is a shorter-than-normal post. If it gets even one person interested in seeing this place, then I feel like I’ve done a great job.

While visiting Illinois, a friend suggested we see the Gen X exhibit before we headed back home. Best.Decision.Ever. My friends and I had a blast reliving our childhood!

Friendly staff and free so an obvious choice in the area. Love the Gen X exhibit and the house over time exhibit. Like all museums, plan to spend a while here, plenty to read.

This museum was a nice respite from the cold weather! There is a cool gift shop, an area for kids, and two floors of exhibits. When I went here with my spouse the top floor exhibits were under construction, but we still enjoyed visiting the museum. Staff was friendly and there were a lot of neat items at the gift shop.

A different experience. Small, however interesting. It was hilarious taking son through the 80s and 90s exhibit and showing him difference between then and now. Check it out for an enjoyable short walk through time and other...

We have loved visiting ISM for 18 years - since we moved to Illinois. I've raised my two children as regulars here, and they still learn something new with each new trip. We miss the Native American exhibits and look forward to their return or reinvention, the art gallery upstairs is always a favorite with my young artist, and my youngest has so much fun in the Play area. The gift shop has a wide variety of items in semi-affordable price range, but I was particularly pleased to see items by local artists for sale as well, and we each (myself and my two kids) each got a little something. Keeping the museum as a free attraction is so appreciated, too, since I just don't make a lot of money and it's something fun we can do pretty often and not get tired of it, and don't spend a fortune on return visits. We spent 2+ hours inside your museum, and for us, that was a fast trip.

Took an impromptu trip here yesterday, and had a fantastic time. We were there a couple of hours and didn’t even see all they had to offer. Great variety of displays, artifacts, and art. Wonderful gift shop with souvenirs to accommodate any budget.

love it .small but well thought out exhibits .don't pay the parking meters, but you only have 30 minutes. I'd live to come back and read all the guide cards .so much good information. some awesome photo opportunities. check out the nostalgic Gen x exhibit ,it's a fun look- see .I was very well pleased to see the care put into this museum .very nice day trip for the entire family .

This is a free museum with an extensive natural history collection. Give yourself a half day to see it all as there is so much about Illinois to learn. For a state museum it is very impressive and the many exhibits are exceptional. The Gen X and Boomer Exhibits along with many of the antiques is impressive. The only downside is there is no place to eat close by. So be prepared especially on a Monday to walk a long distance for food or just bring your own and have a picnic.

Excellent museum! Great job portraying the life of Lincoln in a realistic way. The exhibits are thoughtful and well done. The two theater experiences should not be missed; they are so good! The staff was knowledgeable and super nice. Give yourself 3-4 hours to get through it without rushing. It was an amazing experience overall! I highly recommend a visit.

It’s almost impossible to find fault with this Illinois treasure. Intimate and Immersive with history. .The greatest President ever and savior of the United States. His immortal words will teach forever . Huge kudos to those that safeguard this very special place.

This presidential museum blew my mind! What an unusual and fascinating place. Detailed and amazing dioramas of Lincoln's life from childhood on, beautifully done. Each section is powerful and thought provoking. I really enjoyed the one from Lincoln's office (and his rambunctious sons) overall I was moved emotionally. So much information and you learn it all by experience and involvement. I can truly say I am not the same person I was before I visited. Highly recommended!

A very delightful gem. Tucked away in the woods, there are creatures that are active, fun and adventurous. Don’t get caught viewing a monkey scratching it’s behind! The ageless turtle will keep you motivated to watch it move slowly but surely from one side of its habitat to the other, so make sure you have some extra time on your hands. The birds make friends with everyone, and the petting zoo includes a Billy goat that will follow you around it’s pen until you finally give in and pet him. Be cautious! The puma will sleep but when active will visit you at a pounced notice. So have fun and bring the kids!

Though a bit smal, this little zoo has everything for the just curious kiddos. The electric train wasn't available during our visit we was able to walk around this quaint facility stopping at each area. The dock over looking the fishpond and feeding them made my little nephew's eyes glimmer with excitement... Well worth the very minimal entry fee.

Such a cute little zoo. On the smaller side but had plenty of animals. (some that I had never seen before) Everyone was very friendly and the gift shop had lots of neat little souvenirs. Will be back!

The kids loved this fun zoo. It's shady and pleasant for us and the animals. Loved the penguins and impressed by all the improvements.

Went back for a 4th time; I'd gone several times with my kids. My kids are grown - this time my wife and I went on our own. Spent just over an hour. It . We got to talk to the zookeepers. We even had the attention of some animals. As before, a wallaby saw us and decided he didn't want anything to do with us and hopped away. One of the birds was talking to us. The goats loved getting fed. Zoo is best for younger kids. This time we went in the summer (last time was in March). Not crowded. Animals are all easy to see. Great playground for kids.

Super cute little zoo. They even have viewing windows that show many animals inside where they sleep which is such a good idea. We went at 10 upon opening and all the animals had just been fed and were out and about. Highly recommend!!

Wide variety of animals with exhibit renovations under way, which is wonderful since the enclosures need more shade, deeper, well-aerated pools, and more grass. The wolf has a bad ear, the bears and cougars are awfully thin, the animals in the African crane pen had no shade, the tortoise’s lawn is barren, and everybody seemed too hot. I know it can’t be easy running a small zoo so are benefactors take note—This zoo is worth it. We had a wonderful visit and look forward to seeing the new enclosures.

They get 4 stars because of the fantastic variety of animals that they have there. Absolutely awesome. I debated about doing 3 stars just because the amount of cobwebs everywhere. On the fences, windows, seats, any overhangs at all. I had to save one to many children and a husband from cobwebs they walked into- a couple with actual spiders on them! It was nice To go once to see the animals. I love Zoos! I am not sure I will spend the money to go again. Took us about an hour to get through everything. Though they do have a playground (which could lengthen ones stay if they had kids), but we were unable to use it due to a ton of spiderwebs.

With growing up in Springfield, I'm accustomed to visiting this zoo. I loved it as a child. We moved away but wanted to visit with our son. It took about an hour to walk the entire zoo. We also chose to ride the train ($2 per person) which takes you around in a loop of the zoo. I haven't visited in a while, but a handful of the enclosures were empty due to construction and they're on the smaller side. (We're used to visiting the St Louis zoo with large enclosures) It's a cute zoo and great for a little outing with kids. They have a small gift shop as well as a playground inside.

Doing a zoo a day for a whole week! This place was on my list. It was a cute smaller zoo. Perfect size for younger kids! Their animals seemed happy and healthy. A nice variety of animals too

Great trails and lovely flowers in bloom! The nature Center was interesting with hands on learning! No Dogs Allowed

We were excited to visit this nature area, but it was completely impossible to find our way around. We had read descriptions of interesting sights we wanted to see, but the map made no sense at all. We met another group on the trail and asked if they were more familiar with the area but they were even more frustrated than we were. We managed to find a lookout of the lake and then we gave up and left. It looks like there is pretty scenery but we didn't get to see it.

Well maintained trails nature center and picnic areas and these really cool art displays and tons of activities and famous quotes on almost every park bench!

"NO DOGS ALLOWED!" Very disappointed that you are not allowed to bring your dog. It was crowded with kids and people. I had a kid and his dad yell at me and tell me to leave because I had my dog. I then said I didn't realize that dogs weren't allowed it seems like a great rural location to walk your dog and at that point had a rude lady yell at me and say can't you read the signs. At any rate I found this park to be unfriendly towards not just pets but the people where not very nice either so I will not be going back. I have found Washington park and Stuart park to be wonderful, nice people and nice parks that both allow dogs and are enjoyable.

The trails are kept clean and the views are very pretty. A must see is across the street where the fairy gardens are. Even as an adult, we thoroughly enjoyed it

Went there for annual pancake and sausage breakfast with REAL maple syrup. Always fun. Can't wait for a week or two to see all the spring native flowers in bloom. Easy trails to walk.

Choice place to take a walk in natural surroundings. Right by a lake with both sidewalk and nature trails cushioned with wood chips. Saw a deer, squirrels, a hawk, many different types of mushrooms, and amazing wildflowers. Very relaxing place for walking or taking a break on one of the many beaches. They also have trolls and gnomes for kids.

A very wonderful place to see lots of wildlife! I love the trolls that they put in, it add a special touch. It is also a very pretty place to take pictures or just walk. The little beach is beautiful. There are many benches to stop and rest.

Within minutes of our arrival we saw 2 bunnies and 3 deer. The trails were very nice with wood chips and well marked. We found a tiny small hidden beach that was great for cooling down. There were several bench scattered throughout that had great quotes from Lincoln.

Review Date: September 27th, 2016 I have been to Springfield, IL quite a few times, so it came to me as a surprise that there was a Memorial Garden/Nature Center dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. So, on a beautiful fall day, I decided to make a trip there and see what it was about. Talk about picking a perfect day to walk a perfect place. Parked my car, grabbed my outdoorsy hat and went walking. You could say that this place is split in two, with a section around the Nature Center and a section all on its own. There were only a few people on the trail and they were friendly. It was an enjoyable walk around the Nature Center section. Even saw two fawn play around while their mother fed. If you like to walk some easy trails while enjoying nature, this place needs to be on your list.

Walked these trails while visiting friends. Love it! Wish we had trails like these where I'm from. well kept and marked very well. Will definitely go again when I'm in town.

We played mini golf and it was fun but the course definitely needs some tlc and the trash cleaned up. The girls working the counter were super nice. There’s a few game machines in the front. My kids had fun playing them but the candy in the machines was pretty old and a few machines didn’t work. We also hit some golf balls at the driving range part and had fun. It’s priced well so we’ll definitely be back.

We were in town for the night so stopped for a quick game of mini golf to kill some time. We weren't sure the course was opened as it looked a little 'rough' with debris but it was open & unfortunately, extremely rough with debris. The water 'features' were in bad shape as well with some strong odors. Nonetheless, we played our way through the course & still had a good time. I'd stop & play again assuming they've had more time to tidy up the courses. 😁 oh, there were cute bunnies munching away along the course & didn't seem to mind us. That was entertaining.

Knight's Action Park is a gem! Our kids (2, 4, 6 & 8) all had a wonderful time. We bounced around from section to section and tried out each water slide and attraction. It wasn't until later in the day that we even realized there was a big wave pool! After drying off, we closed out our experience on the go-carts, which were fun :) Highly recommend reserving a day of vacation to this place!

This is a place. This place contains rides, a Mumble Jim for the kids to talk to, and many P-slides with water added. It's just so great to know your children are safe at Knights. My friend's grandpa used to drop us off here in the morning. With no money for entry we begged every morning until someone bought our way or the staff finally gave up. After that, it was usually lunch. Luckily there is a LOT of leftovers lying in metal round things. Good childhood, good rides, good fun, and also drive-in movies. What's not to kind-of like? Owners are AWESOME sports! Thanks all

Great place for a family waterpark getaway! Water park was great! Food was priced great! Go-karts were old and slow, and the other two amusement rides was not open when we went on labor day. We won free tickets so not sure if I would pay the money to come back again or not with holiday world being the same distance.

Frights Action Park was an OK effort. Needs more along the River Trip, maybe dye the water green or blood red. More effort in jump scares on the river trip as well and next season I would build custom boats so all patrons are facing forward for the trip. The first and second walk through scenes were pretty good but lacking there afterwards. The wait was 2 hours in line and for me, it just didn't justify the attraction this time. First year for it, I'm sure it's a learning curve for them, I love the opportunity to help with ideas as a 12 year scare actor. More kid friendly than other attractions I would say.

My family and I love coming here. We’ve had season passes the past 4 years or so. However, I think it’s time to do some general updates throughout the park. Instead of investing in new attractions can you update the restrooms? They are most certainly an eye sore. Or maybe the lounge chairs and tables? A fresh coat of paint would go a long way on some of your older attractions or maybe even the exterior of the concession stand/gift shop area. Just a thought from an outsiders view as we really do want to see knights in Springfield be successful forever!! It’s such a fantastic magnet for our city! I feel there are plenty of attractions but the restrooms are severely outdated and could use some TLC.

Came here for my nephew's birthday party. All-in-all a great place for a 10th birthday. Kids loved it. THEY HAVE A BAR! Beers were a tiny bit pricey, but it's an amusement park. All in all the park was clean, staff were friendly and helpful, and the life guards were attentive to the swimmers. Need to incorporate a "spectator" pass, I had to have a full price armband just to chaperone. A different kind/color of band and a $10 entry would've been great for us.

Great family fun. Plenty of parking. It was a little pricey for a family of 6. (Maybe offer a family discount) The lawn chair availability was not good. Not enough chairs. And a lot of the chairs were in bad condition. Some were even broken . But overall great time. Kids loved it. Plenty of food and drink choices .

It was Mom's Monday. Great deal (mom is free with paid person/child) but made for an extremely busy place. Everything was very clean and the lines weren't too long to wait in. They have a great adult only pool and lots of attractions for all ages and water ability. A few cons - a lot of inner tubes were deflated/ broken for the wave pool and lazy river. Life guards gave inconsistent rules so some were ok with some things and others weren't. Very confusing for a 5 and 7 year old. Not enough seating. We rented a locker but wasn't big enough for everything with 5 people. We eneded up putting our things next to a random post on the ground as we couldn't find a single empty chair to put our things on. Overall, it was a fun time. We wouldn't go any other day as we felt it was over priced but for once a year on vacation, on a Monday will be a fun memory.

A good first visit, my son was exhausted after it all. It's pretty decent for all ages of kids. Food is a bit pricey for the quality it is. Locker rental makes storage easy. Lifeguards were present everywhere and whistled the rowdy kids often. An enjoyable experience, will definitely go again. Weekday was perfect time to go.

My family was visiting from out of town and we went to play mini golf this past Sunday night. Your employee came out and said you were closed(which I completely understand). We lost track of time and when I checked the time it was 10min after 11. We told her we were on our last hole and would leave right after. She proceeded to say that she had been there since 7am(a 16 hour shift) and that she would like to go home(with attitude). I understand your establishment was closed but there was no need for that unnecessary comment/attitude. We paid $50 that night and were there for a little over an hour. There was another group there at that time and she gave them passes or something. We enjoyed our time there but didn’t appreciate being basically hurried out of there with attitude.

Kids and entire family had a blast. Go carts weren't open but we still make the best of it.

A good hometown park. Nothing super special, but a great place to spend a warm day. Water was a bit cool when I was there, but it rained the day before so ... Understandable. The slides are fun and I have done them all on variously visits, but the park is equally great for a chill day floating on the lazy river and wave pool.

I had a wonderful time! The lifeguards were very attentive to the water and I could relax without having to keep a close eye on my kids. There were managers walking around helping with everything people needed. The waterpark also looked very cleanly. I stopped by Barnacle Bills and the food was delicious. I would go again!

The power went out the day we went. We spent about 4 hours there and they still gave us passes for another time to return. I thought that was pretty great. We've been here a couple different times and the lines are never that long. Getting a locker is easy and the cashier has always been very nice and informational. The price isn't to bad either. I'd say about 100 dollars less then holiday for my family size. The parks is alot smaller then holiday world but it a great short trip for fun in the sun.

We went to the Springfield Christmas celebration downtown in front of the Governor's Mansion. The mansion was decorated beautifully. The governor was actually there and took the time to talk to our young children.

Actually attended a Scottish Highland game across from the mansion in an open park like area. It was a great time, impressive athletes, and gave us chance to walk around downtown exploring some businesses and attending a farmer's market. Hope they keep that area open for other events and a return of those games.

Very beautiful, this was the 3rd year we have been there for Halloween with the governor.

It was such a great tour. The gentlemen volunteer gave us such wonderful information. I really enjoyed it, but I don't think my children did. They were kind of bored. But I love this type of stuff. If you are interested in history this is for sure a must see! FYI! You have to reserve stops online and they are only open for 2 tours on Saturday and Sunday only. Plan ahead.

Yesterday was the second burial I had attended at Camp Butler. It felt very rushed and very impersonal. The burial staff was insensitive, and needs some training on how to deal with different types of bereaved and emotional family members. I would have expected more professionalism.

Very respectable place, full of honor and glory, my father would be proud to know this is his final resting place.

There is a serenity at the cemetery that I have never felt before. Rest In Peace my beautiful wife until we meet again

Very nice people who work there. I went to visit my husband. They were digging graves close by. I started to walk up, but was unsure so I walked back to my car. But then I headed back just to see the tombstone. One guy shut off his machine and asked if I needed help locating a grave. I said I just wanted to see my husband's, but didn't want to interfere with their job. The other guy shut off his machine and they bowed their heads. I didn't stay long because they had at least two sites to dig. I was thankful for the honor they showed to me and my husband. I would give ten stars if I could!

Well kept great staff honorable treatment of our military. There is a section of civil war era graves is interesting for those who love history. It is open 7:30 to sunset and is easily accessible throughout the year. One of the finest institutions in the US that cares from our Veterans at the end of their lives.

What a wonderful experience for my father's internment today as well as celebrating his birthday. The staff was amazing. Went the extra mile to make my family fully able to make it to the site by bringing a golf cart around for my aunt to make it to the site with her bad knees. Would reccomend all those who served today with very high praise.

Beautifully kept grounds and people working the grounds stop while a service is held in the shelter provided for them. Make sure you ask to have the 21gun salute and taps so the local volunteers will be there otherwise it’s on tape.

My Mother and Her Parents Are Buried here. I have a Sweet Little Nephew Buried here as Well. And they are Always Remembered. There are other Friends and Family here as well. So many to say. I come to visit each time I am in Illinois as are Home is in Florida. It's a Peaceful Place and Always looks So Nice every time. The Name Should Stay The Same as Always. As I was driving back home to Colorado from Indianapolis I'd taken i-70 numerous times and I decided I didn't want to see the same route again so I took a different route through the back roads of Indiana and Illinois. I came to a small town in Illinois, ( spring field) I go through the town pass a neighborhood and I take a right hand turn I come up to a stop sign. I see a field lined with white headstones. I think to myself it's almost the 4th of July Independence Day, a day that we wouldn't have if it wasn't for the men and women laying at rest in these fields. I drove past Camp Butler National Cemetery. I have never seen a militaryy graveyard this size . The message it sent was strong and powerful to just see every one of those headstones knowing was a man or woman who gave their life for our country. Thank you to every man and woman who has ever served our country or who is serving now.

We try to come to the park at least once a week. Our daughter absolutely love the geese and ducks and just being in the park and having a great time. What a amazing beautiful park.

The gardens here are well maintained and beautiful. We've done a photo shoot here 2x now and have loved it, and the outcome of the photos.

Beautiful park, indoor and outdoor botanical gardens, and one of the largest carilons in the world. A lovely place, too, for walking, running, feeding ducks, etc...

Bring your dog and your comfortable walking shoes. This park is made for relaxation. Beautiful views of wildlife and a sid footing for a 2 mile walk. Please do NOT feed the local ducks Bread!! It only hurts them.

This is SUCH a gorgeous area. Sometimes gets overlooked when you live here for a while but it’s fun to walk through and looks at. Very well kept. If you like to take pictures of plants/flowers, this is the place for you!

Nice park but a lot of the flowers were already turning since the weather is getting hotter in late June. The plants were not blooming, sure, but the area was not well maintained. - overgrown grass and weed. Overall it's a nice park though.

A couple of loops around this park and you'll get a workout and see some pretty nature.

Rose garden is beautiful in the summer. A nice stop for a picnic even on an early spring day

A friend and I went to Washington Park to see the Christmas decorations inside the Conservatory. Willie Wonka is this year's theme. It's free and I highly recommend going.

Amazing!!! Went for the Spring Floral Show and it was beautiful and great!!! The flowers are always so beautiful and love the path ways!!! So perfect!!! Can't wait to go back for more events!!! Super nice!!!

A nice little park with gardens — a pleasant stroll, even in the fall.

Absolutely beautiful grounds and Victorian mansion and the art studio is amazing. We just happened upon this, not knowing it even exitsted. Its nice to see this incredible home kept up while so many are allowed to deteriorate. The grounds are well kept and the studio is very nice. Well worth checking out.

If you have interest in the arts, it's a wonderful place to see. The art fair was exceptional. The people and artist working there were so nice and helpful.

Enjoyed the basic macrame class taught by Katie. She made it easy and fun and gave us alot of options of yarn, beads, bamboo holder and techniques. Just needed to know the basics so I could try other macrame projects I've seen online. Only class I've seen in town.

Beautiful, well kept home! I loved this historical information and stories the guide told me as we toured the home. Very cool place. Lots of parking. I bet you could go multiple times and hear/see new things each time. Very affordable!

I've taken various classes here for severL years and I've attended several events and programs. This is a incredibly well developed and enjoyable place for this community, or any community. We are fortunate to have it.

Another one-nighter in the books... I love going to these classes & trying different skills that are new to me. If gives me the opportunity to try something new & still bring home something I've created.

Great Unique Experience! I feel like this is a hidden gem in Springfield. We had a wonderful detailed tour with very accommodating nice people. One of the few historical houses you get to walk through as it was without parts being roped off. A lot of Lincoln aspects. Love that he had spent time in the house & includes some Lincoln artifacts like dishes he dined with, the courting couch & a piano that most likely played at Lincoln & Mary's wedding. Any history or Lincoln fan should take the time for a visit. Beautiful one of a kind experience

We just had our wedding ceremony at Edwards Place and they were fantastic to work with. Very flexible with requests and prompt in responses to emails and calls. The venue presents a stunning setting with the rich colors and antiques. Our guests were wowed by it. I highly recommend working with them!

Many great exhibits and a helpful staff. Only open from 1PM to 4 most days.

Very nice and informative. Carl Sandburg, noted poet and author, served in our military. Lincoln was a captain in the army. WWII helicopters.

Amazing museum ! My daughters love history of every country . We was going to the museum but closed time to stop working. We have plans to go again .

This was a wonderful visit for me and my grandson. Went Tuesday May 24th at about 1pm. The young man that worked there treated my 3 year old grandson so wonderful. His kind gentle voice was amazing. This is one of the places that everyone should know about. So very clean and loved the displays. Anyone that gives thes less than 5 stars should be ashamed. Not big but big enough to learn some history.

We are so glad we stopped in. Truly a very nice museum with informative artifacts and collections from the various wars. The location is off the beaten path but it's absolutely worth it. Our 3 kids were engaged and asked interesting questions about each exhibit. The museum is continuing to expand and add new items. Excited to support this museum and our veterans who take the time to engage with students in educational workshops and tours.

It was a very nice museum. When we went they had service members from different branches outside that spoke with us. That was great.

Would like to commend an employee working at museum on July 20. I left my billfold there and after realizing it, called the museum, the gentleman working said he would wait for us to return, even though it might be past closing. The museum is housed in an interesting 19th century stone building. Lots of exhibits on two floors, including the infamous leg from the Mexican general Santa Anna. Exhibits change with some frequency. Various events are held throughout the year such as the annual "Christmas at the Front" from Revolutionary War through both World Wars. Good place for children. No entry fee, and plenty of parking. Well worth visiting.

Went here on a class trip for 7th and 8th grade. The museum is set up nicely with a lot to look at over the years. The best part was the retired military presenters providing living history memories and encouraging the kids to ask questions.

There isn't a lot on display, but they have a really nice walkthrough on the 2nd level that goes from the Revolutionary War all the way through the Afghanistan War with information and dioramas. The signs are getting a bit light faded, so could use an update, but probably a bit of a shoe-string budget as it is a free museum. Definitely worth a visit. Takes about 45 -60 minutes to go through.

Rather small, so makes for a quick, free visit if you've got some time to kill. There's some heavy equipment to see out front, and inside you see uniforms, gear, and weaponry throughout the state's history. They also have some interesting artifacts like a captured rebel flag and Santa Anna's wooden leg.

Cool museum about the history of all the military conflicts of the Illinois National Guard.

Just went to the Great War Encampment here, so glad they're having it again! This might be my kids' favorite museum. We have gone to every encampment for the last four years at least, and they've just redone several exhibits. Wonderful place to learn and experience military history.
