Steep from town...better to take trail from Camden Hills Staye Park. Great views of the PenobscotBay & Camden & beautiful trail!

Beware: lots of rocks and roots most of the way up.

I will start this by saying this area is a state park. So there is a fee but it's not an arm and a leg. Also for those who like camping there is a campground at the base. That said, let's continue... Now two ways to get to the top of Mt. Battie. You can walk up, or you can be like me and drive up. I've done enough walking for the last 65 years:) Parking though will accommodate around 30 cars. And I'll be honest that's just a guess. So once you're up there you get one of the best views of Camden harbor and Rockland that you could ever ask for. Also there is a small observation tower you can go up to get an extended view. If you're lucky you can watch eagles sailing on the up draft and they float around for a bit. I would suggest bringing up a lawn chair. A lot of people don't and just walk around for a few minutes then leave. The best part is to sit and take it all in. So if you're up in the area stop by. You won't be disappointed.

I have a mixed review about this park. The staff were really nice. The park is absolutely beautiful. The campsites are beautiful wooded or there's a field if you prefer. electrical and water hook ups available. There are trails that start in the campground and allow you access to the park. There is some road noise from route one but it's not unbearable. The only problem - the dump station was a challenge. The park should invest in a five dollar fitting so that the black tank flush works.

Well marked foot trails and auto road lead to spectacular 360 degree view. Scenic tower and clean outhouses are icing on the cake. Hiking trails are moderately challenging but well marked and distance is indicated at trailheads. Great family outing.

We stayed two nights and had such a pleasant time. Neighbors were very nice and everyone we met was super nice and polite. Within the park is just a short drive to Mt. Battie and I cannot recommend making the drive for that 360° view. It will not disappoint whether summer or winter!!! Hot showers, clean bathrooms, and quiet accommodations are what you can expect here.

Beautful tent sites with lots of trees and amazing hiking trails. You can also drive up to the summit of Mount Battie if you are unable to hike.

Fun trails. Even if it is foggy outside, I would still recommend going just for the hiking. First, we drove up to Mount Battie. Would have definitely been a nice view if not foggy but there was still the WWI memorial tower and the signs that told you information about it. We then drove down to the parking lot for the Megunticook trail. We did the Megunticook trail and we also took the Ridge trail to the summit of Mount Megunticook. Was somewhat strenuous going up but was very easy to go down (other than falling from the slippery rocks). I would highly recommend this route as well as also going through the Adams Lookout Trail (which branches off and connects back to the Megunticook trail and offers great views). Also, definitely bring bug spray and be wary of spider webs. One more thing to note, it is a deceptively large park, don’t bite off more than you can chew.

We went to the top of Mount Battie by car. Lovely look out over the hills and city of Camden. There is a tower built from stones from hotel that had been there previously. The tower commemorates the soldiers from WWI.

Fee access area but worth the nominal fee for a great view and tidbit of history at the top. Easy access by car and short walk. Handicap parking but I did not see a wheelchair ramp.

Absolutely gorgeous park, I highly recommend taking a trip up the mountain! The hike up was a bit strenuous but the view was wonderful!

The view from Mt. Battie was absolutely amazing! Prior to our trip, our friends had recommended this. So peaceful and serene seeing the harbor down below! Definitely worth the stop!

This is a great park with lots to do. The rangers work hard dealing with Mt battie traffic and the campground. We enjoyed the bay side of the park with water access. High tide was safest because the rocks are slippery. We had site 106 for a week which is too close to the dumpsters, loud, people use it all times of the day. Sites 102, 103 and 104 are also too close. There are some nice hook up sites near the restrooms and I would try to get one of those if I came back. We also did the hike up the mountain. It was steep but manageable. The conservation corps were there working on it. Loved the free showers but sometimes the water wasn't hot at all!

We camped at Camden Hills and we liked it although the sites were closer together than we prefer but it was quiet. We also drove up Mount Batty and the view was cool although it was hazy from wildfire smoke.

We camped here and visited for 2 days. Great hiking trails and perfect views. Same view is easily seen by driving auto road to the tower with a lot less effort. No real shore accesa here, though there is a rough path down to a very rocky beach. Water and electric at our campsite. Relatively flat, but not 100%. XL site fit our 30 foot bumper pull perfectly. Junior ranger program a hit with my toddlers. Playground is just 2 swing sets.

Love this place. Nice walks and hikes in some beautiful woods and mountains that hug the coastline. Views are for miles when you are at the mountain sumits and the Mt. Batty Watchtower. Great to get away and take in the salt air and views. Take a drive up the Mt. Batty auto road if you can't make the hike. If you are into camping then you should have a stay at the state parks campground. Really nice and close to Camden, Rockport and Rockland. This place is a great jumping point to a lot of local excursions, whether you want to hike, fish, shop or just explore the coastline. There is a great deal to do nearby. Shops and cafes too.

While taking a bike ride during a glorious Saturday afternoon...I paused here for a rest. No activity was taking place and I had the area to myself. What a treat.. The view is unbelievable, but being an amphitheatre, I was curious about the sound... so I tested the acoustics. I suddenly found myself belting out the chorus of Chicago's "Saturday in the Park" (remember, no one was around), so yeah...the amphitheatre has some moxy! I wandered around and found some "collateral" cool stuff. The infamous Compass Rose, a Classic Car parked out front, and a fawn being fondled by the fountain. Ya just never know when ya wander...I hope to attend a concert here someday, as I would imagine the energy exchanged between performers and the audience would be off the charts. Way cool place!

It's so breathtaking you can see the harbors from like 5 different parts of maine!!!! And yes you can climb this beautiful castle part to see even more!!!!! Trust me you will be taking back at the beauty of this view!!!! And yes they do have men's and women's portable toilets

The Camden Library Amphitheater is a must-visit spot in Maine! We love visiting the library and taking in the breathtaking views of Camden Harbor from the amphitheater. The setting is absolutely beautiful and picturesque, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. Highly recommended for a peaceful and scenic experience overlooking the stunning Camden Harbor!

I highly recommend the Camden Amphitheatre for your wedding ceremony. It’s is an idyllic setting to say your vows with its charming garden-like feel and the scenic Camden Harbor as your backdrop. A scenic spot alongside the library and across from Camden harbor. A three quarter circle of three layered stones provide seating and terrain for play. Numerous artistic and musical events happen here, while remaining open and free to access year-round. Calm and peaceful, and close to downtown Camden.

Nice lake but shallow in spots with lots of opportunities to destroy a prop. If new to the lake take it slow until you become familiar with it.

Always love spending time here each year. The lake is great for swimming, and the fishing has been great for bass and crappie.

Camden Public Library is a place of Peace, Relaxation, and Distraction from the hectic lifestyles of both the real and the digital world. From the Various Movie Offering, to the Libraries Printed Word, the world opens up with wonderment and hope. There is a conference room where the Library not only shows local artists work, but also has a piano where you can "tickle the ivories" with permission of the Librarian at the front desk. I find the staff to be warm and inviting. The Libraried Historical Archives of the Midcoast Area allows the researcher to get to know the area, much better. Outside is a beautiful Amphitheater with a beautiful view of the bay, that enhances the sound of the Human voice greatly. This is one of the Best Libraries for a town the size of Camden... Ben Franklin would be proud!!

A great library. Librarians will go out of their way to help you find a book held by other libraries or a scientific article that you might need. Cooperative.

You have to appreciate the public libraries found in many Maine towns. The Camden library is particularly nice as it sits on high ground overlooking the harbor. The grounds are nicely maintained next to a park.

Hands down the best play area for small kids and the storytime is also a must. For adults there is a beautiful building to explore and books and other resources that can be borrowed or used.

The Library is a wonderful resource. The room they have for local history is priceless and the staff there is wonderful. The view from the library grounds is a scene out of a postcard.

Such a cool library. Two levels, upper level even with the amphitheater nearby and the lower level even with the streets. There's a dome where you can look down from the upper level outside and into the lower level of the library. The kids area is really cute, with a fish tank and miniature indoor lighthouse.

Great ski area for all ages and ability levels! The people are friendly, the prices are right, the terrain is fun, and it's the only ski area in the eastern US that you can see the ocean from! The only downside is that the food in the lodge is pricey for relatively small portions; I'd recommend bringing your own.

Well unfortunately even with the triple open for the first time for us, it was a icy mess. I mean it isn't their fault, they truly have had a tough winter and I wondered if I'd have a good experience, looks like this weekend we're getting 10-20 inches, problem is it will be followed by rain, as per the usual. Such a bummer and have had to venture to the big mountains for any real snow. For my age group, things were actually dangerous and it was so cold that I wanted to go home. Even the best skier, my oldest for example, though he stayed upright even over the largest patches of ice, he definitely made faster less controlled turns and wasn't really working on any jumps or technical aspects and had less fun riding with his more cautious little brother who wasn't wanting to ski all day either. Was so glad to go home at 4pm. Escaped injuries though, serious ones at least.

This place is a gem. I wasn’t sure what to expect by way of hiking trails on the mountain but it exceeded my expectations. We hiked here for six days straight and there are many trails that we didn’t have time to explore. I wish I had a mountain bike because the single track was awesome. Looking forward to returning and exploring the bits we missed.

Came here for the fall foliage ski lift rides. It was a beautiful day, the ride up and down was great and everyone there was very nice! Totally worth the price. There was even a trail to the summit once you get to the top.

Beautiful location with well maintained hills. The views are beautiful and look quite nice even from the ground which is where I spent most of my time. The staff is extremely patient and helpful. We reserved gear and lift passes online the day before and the staff helped us get fitted for everything we needed. There are several areas for different skill levels and while I barely made it past the parking lot my kids had a blast. Speaking of kids there are a lot. Predominantly teens and younger. This is truly a family friendly space and everyone is incredibly kind and looks out for one another. There is a "lodge" which is more like a snack bar. They have burgers, coffee, poutine, etc. If you're not a skier then just pay for the 1/2 day as it's ample time to fall on your rump and twist your legs in unique positions. I don't plan to ever ski again but I did have a fun time while here.

This place was awesome for a beginner, I am brand new to snowboarding and came here twice to do it. First of all, the prices are amazing, I got a student discount so for my rental and a 3 hour pass it was 55$!!! Staff was so friendly, lady at the front desk told me about the student discount, the people at the rental shop gave me some pointers for my first day and remembered me when i came back a few days later, and the instructors and ski patrol were all super helpful and giving me tips when they saw me falling on my butt. Overall I had an amazing time and I will be coming back here, it’s a 3 hour drive from my family’s home but totally worth it

I have to acknowledge Camden Snow Bowl’s Ski Patrol. Unfortunately, I fell and needed their expertise (which included a ride on the toboggan). Everyone involved was absolutely amazing! There was one man with me from beginning to end. I don’t know his name but he could not have done a better job, been more kind or been more attentive. Thank you to all involved.

My wife had never been skiing, at 41 years old and after 1 private lesson with Jeff, she is now hooked. I was able to ski all day while she worked the beginners area and we would meet up after each run. The staff simply loves what they do here and that made for a wonderful day all around

We went to the live Bethlehem which would have been beautiful if I could have enjoyed it. We arrived with our daughter in a stroller and was told at the door that there was no room for it. I totally got it when we started walking though and had to travel up and down stairs. I wish that there was something on the posting on line to menton the stairs and to be aware it may not be good for children in strollers.

A most beautiful park, with rambling trails through magical woods, open meadows, and beautifully tended flower gardens. There is so much to see, and the trails are well marked. The visitor center has an extensive library on nature and environmental books, as well as a lovely gift shop, and there is a well kept bathroom. Very family friendly. Do visit, you won’t regret it.

A lovely spot to take a stroll through the many paths and trails or enjoy the beautiful gardens. I attended an informative talk about pollinators given remotely by a State official. The center is a gem that local residents can enjoy. I certainly plan to visit again when I visit Camden again.

Absolutely gorgeous area! Beautiful forest paths, meadows, and an immaculate flower garden. And for free? Makes no sense but I love it. Excellent place for the kids to hike and thr staff were very welcoming and friendly. Definitely check this area out and leave a donation for the wonderful work they are doing.

I was hoping for some great fall viewing, but wasn't very impressed with the place. It was however just after the bomb cyclone and I'm sure it wasn't at is best.

Very nice park. Lots of flowers, and they have a gazebo for special occasions . A nice afternoon for a family outing! Also, have benches scattered about to rest and take in the scenery. A little clubhouse for children. Very nice!!!

Quickly stopped in this store because it looked somewhat interesting from the street. The only thing unique about Star Bird was the utter lack of customer service. I was the only person in the place and the women behind the counter did not look up or greet me. I looked around for about another 30 seconds before realizing this was just your average home goods store selling overpriced throw pillows and soy candles I can get pretty much anywhere in New England. You would think with all these terrible reviews Star Bird would try to improve customer service and guest experiences? Guess not!

Fully agree with other reviews here and not surprised to read others had similar experiences. Owner couldn’t be ruder or more unwelcoming. She was so hateful! Will not return.

First visit to Maine. Everyone everywhere we have been has been so warm and friendly… until entering this store. I have never been treated so rudely. Owners were beyond rude. Asked a couple of questions about item and was blatantly ignored. I would have purchased a blanket, but because of the service I did not. While there were lovely things in the store, it was nothing that you can’t get elsewhere. Would NOT even darken their door!

Nice things, but the owner is awful. Stuck up, pretentious and judgmental the second you walk through the door. Barely said hello after I spoke first, and didn’t even reply when I said “you have lovely things”. Would’ve purchased for my home here, but now wouldn’t give him the business. I tried to give them no stars but can’t figure out how to do it. The most unwelcome establishment I’ve ever been in. Since day one this has been their business platform. Unless your up for the most rudest experience do not visit.

I entered this store yesterday with my husband. Everything appeared to be normal until I went to touch a pillow. The owner (I’m assuming) immediately hobbled over and accused me of trying to find the item online. Genuinely confused, I began leaving the store when he started ridiculing my husband and I. The medically altered woman behind the counter started making rude remarks. I felt as if I was in the twilight zone. Who are these people? What is this place?

I've visited this store on several occasions, hoping to see an improvement in their service, but my experiences have consistently fallen short. It's evident that there's a need for a perspective shift here from the owners. While the store labels its items as high-end, they often align more closely with cliché nautical home items commonly found in any seaside town. Camden boasts a variety of charming and welcoming shops that I'd recommend exploring instead.

Totally agree with all the negative reviews. The one consistent .... a one star review! Store opened a half hour later than posted and the owner immediately broke a glass. He told us that's why he hates opening before he is ready! Do yourself and your business a favor and hire someone who wants to be in retail. Clearly you don't.

Entered this store yesterday only to encounter suspicious, rude sales people. They followed us around the store and told us to ‘not touch a pillow as it was white’ and also said not to ‘pick’ at the same pillow. Made faces behind our backs, as well. Such lovely items surrounded with such unappealing and childish salewomen. Do not shop here.

We went into this store because we saw some cute things in the window, but I am sorry I did. The owner was very rude when I was looking at a pillow we wanted to purchase he told me "do not touch that unless you plan to buy it". I felt to uncomfortable I started to walk out of the store and he followed after me complaining about "tourists" in his store. I will not be returning!

What a treat! While visiting town, I was able to score a last minute ticket to one of the Bay Chamber Concert Series. I attended the Geoff Nuttall Tribute Concert and witnessed an emotional event that brought some tears, and much applause throughout the evening. The building and its architecture are stunning, the history... captivating, and the acoustics...top notch. Not a bad seat in the house, easy stage viewing, and the oppulance inside will consume your attention and have your eyes wandering about. So don't be rude, pay attention to the stage. I highly recommend you attend an event here. You'll be glad ya did...and hey, dress yourself up a bit for it. Your posture will immediately improve! Enjoy

Takes me back in time......lovely, romanic, acousticly sound, precious, gentle, intimate, beautiful space......I feel good in the audience and can imagine the performers enjoying the intimacy too.

This was my first time seeing Bob Marley and it was fantastic. Laughed so hard my cheeks hurt!!! The opera house was packed and no matter where you sit here it's always a great view.

Beautiful venue. Just saw Frontier, Journey cover band. Excellent show.

On a last minute impulse we went to see Pokey LaFarge! .... Awesome show!! And the opera house is pretty special too

Beautifully restored, intimate theater- probably holds about 500 people. Saw "One Night in Memphis". All 4 impersonators were great, with the Jerry Lee Lewis role the most entertaining. Nice, polite and friendly crowd. Made for a very enjoyable evening.

Very nostalgic place to see anything. Acoustics are very good so easy to hear whatever you may be there to enjoy!

I had the pleasure of seeing four films at the Opera House as part of the Camden International Film Festival. There's no such thing as a bad seat, and the acoustics are great. This is a wonderful venue.

I highly recommend visiting the Camden Opera House. Extremely intimate as there are only 300* seats. A balcony meant entirely for a special perspective awaits those looking for that aww inspiring perspective.

This review is for our hike up Bald mountain accessed from 325 Barnstead road in Camden Maine. I specify that as you can access Bald mountain from more than one area. This is a great hike with one of the best views of Penobscot bay and the surrounding area I’ve seen! As you are driving from Camden the parking area will be on your left . There is parking for quite a few vehicles so I’d say it’s a decent size parking lot. In the parking area there is a sign with a trail map and information on the hike. As you start the hike you will need to cross Barnstead road and the cars do tend to move fast on that road so use caution. You’ll follow the path along the road and then adjacent to a field before you turn right and head into the woods. You’ll travel less than a quarter mile before your first sign. It will indicate Bald Mountain to the left and Ragged mountain to the right. I have not hiked Ragged mountain from this access point so don’t have information on that. As you turn left and head up Bald mountain you’ll quickly learn this hike is all up! It’s a good climb that will give you some decent cardio depending on your speed. There are rock scrambles and just flat rock surfaces that you’ll climb up so wear something on your feet with good traction! If your doing this hike on a rainy day or a day or two after rain please use caution as it’s a lot of rock that is steep and when wet very slippery! The elevation of Bald mountain is 1280 feet. The hike from the parking lot with a bit of walking around at the top is 3.12 miles. The area on top is great, there is s lot of rock face , cleared areas that allow for sitting and exploring. Plus amazing views of Penobscot bay and the surrounding area! This hike is a beautiful one and extremely rewarding in many ways! Enjoy!

Bald rock is a nice hike. It's not to long and fairly easy going. Access is also easy to find. There is a bit of a steeper section but not bad . I managed it with snow and ice still on the ground. Once you make the hike to the top you are awarded with spectacular views of camden harbour and beyond. There are other plenty of other hiking destinations from the same trail head if you want to make it a longer day. The hiking in this area is some of the easier hikes I've done. Suitable to bring kids! Pets are welcome on leashes. Go in to Belfast or Camden for some good eating options .. oh yeah and drinks of course. If this was helpful click the thumbs up!!!

I have been hiking Bald Mountain since 1982. The preservation of this precious summit is a blessing, as can be seen by looking around at the the damage done to the surrounding ones, including the legendary Hatchet Mountain in Hope. Hopefully no one else will build fires up there either, the damage to the summit stone will endure for centuries. It is a sacred place with a nearly forgotten history, and one that rewards quiet contemplation and listening. From the summit it is possible on a clear day to see Mount Washington in New Hampshire! There are few other places that allow for such a view, and much of the coast of Maine and many islands are clearly visible. It is also a spectacular place to view events such as lunar eclipses. I will be forever grateful for the preservation of this extremely special mountain. Oh, Ragged Mountain is cool too I suppose.

Amazing views in all directions. Moderate hike, not too strenuous but feels like a workout. A must climb!!

First time hiking this trail and it was well worth the time! We will be back!

Fantastic place to hike. The preserve offers trails for every level. We hiked to the top of Bald mountain and enjoyed the lovely views of the ocean to the east and mountains to the west.

A marvelous gallery right on the waterfront. Nice selection of regional artists. The service was wonderful. During our visit we purchased two original pieces of art for our home, one of which was already framed. The larger piece needed to be framed and the person in the gallery helped us pick out something suitable along with a nice matting. It was shipped to our home three weeks later in some of the most secure packaging I've ever seen. Seriously, it took several minutes to unbox this piece of artwork, that's how much care the owner put into making sure it arrived undamaged. We will surely be returning to the gallery on our next trip to Maine.

Wonderful gallery full of beautiful works of local artists. I purchased 3 pieces, they framed them beautifully and even provided a matching frame for a piece I had at home but wanted to hang with my new art. They graciously packaged and shipped my works to South Carolina without a hitch! We will be returning each trip from now on to build our collection.
