Boats were cleanly and seemed to be in great shape. Can choose to stay in your car or get out and experience the views. Indoor deck to keep you out of the elements, or top deck to enjoy the breeze. Wait time for boarding depends on traffic. No need to get out of your car to buy tickets, as they come to you with a portable charge machine! Very convenient.

The best! When traffic is heavy, they load and go! Courteous, patient crew - especially as I was loading my new 24' motorhome!

What a great experience for me and my kids. Smiles bigger than I've ever seen on their faces! So glad we payed to ferry the car across with us; Washington Island was so fun.

Staff are super friendly and professional organizing cars. Safety is a priority for them, and the ferry runs on time! We had a very pleasant time at Washington Island and using the ferry was a really nice experience.

These guys are so efficient and friendly, getting on and off the ferry was quick and easy. The ride was perfectly timed to the minute, we were impressed each time. With that in mind, do be early. And please note that reservations are needed for vehicles for spring trips since the ferry only runs a few times a day verses the summer when it runs quite often. Just call the office and let them know what time you want to head over and head back, it's a painless process. Just check in at the booth when you park to get your ticket.

Awesome trip over to Washington Island. Beautiful scenery. Watch out for the multitude of May flies on board!! Inside area to sit and two restrooms on board.

On a Monday in July, we arrived just a few minutes before the time of departure and there was already about 10 cars ahead of us who also would have to wait for the next ferry to take us across. So, be at least 15 minutes early and, if not, enjoy free coffee in their small museum about the history of the islands you'll pass by and see as you cross. There is plenty of seating inside and outside on the ferry. You can bring pets across for free and even stay in your car as the ferry travels across, though I'd recommend getting out and walking up to the 2nd or 3rd floor to see the captain's steering wheel and the views from of other islands. It can get windy so feel free to move to a side of the ship that is protected from the wind or go to the inside seating. The ferries seem to leave every 15 minutes that day. You also don't need to have a car to go across, they do have tour trains that drive from tourist site to site on Washington Island.

1st time on the ferry to Washington island. Even though I've been to other parts of Door County several times. My favorite thing about this was that the rates weren't as a bad as I expected to be as shown online. So it was only 60 dollars round trip for 2 people. Not sure I would go again but it was worth seeing once. My favorite part was the lavender shop there.

The staff were very helpful and courteous. It was a great experience. When you visit Door County you taking the ferry out to Washington Island is a must. This is very much worth your time. It is a short relaxing ride to another beautiful attraction. Taking the ferry is easy and their schedule allows all the time you need on the island.

Very cool experience! Be aware not all ferries are the same size. The driver of our vehicle was unable to exit the truck on the return ferry, because there was zero room to open his door. The ferries do have restrooms and seating to enjoy the ride outside of your vehicle. Something like $96 for 4 adults, 1 child and a vehicle.

We took the tram/train on a tour of the island. Very, very informative. She stopped often so we could get out and see the sights. I highly recommend this.

Yet another beach in Door County with crystal clear water and excellent skipping stones. The evergreen boreal forest trees that line the shoreline help to create a masterpiece of majestic natural scenery. Beautiful lakeshores like Schoolhouse Beach Park are the reason that Door County stands out from other places in Wisconsin in an amazingly unique way.

First of all this whole island was beautiful! I really loved this beach. The water was clean looking and the rocks really looked good when taking photos. The beach was really scenic and very clean looking. Would totally recommend coming here you will have a great time! 👍

One of the highlights of our Washington Island visit. We made a stop on a Saturday in June and encountered a decent amount of visitors, but this clear, smooth-stoned beach is a must visit location if you come to the island. There seemed to be ample parking, and while we weren't there to picnic, there seemed to be plenty of places to sit and enjoy the space. Do not come expecting to take some of the rocks home. Rock hounding is highly discouraged and violators face a hefty $250 fine.

Beautiful! The entire beach consists of perfectly smooth stones. Never seen anything like it. The stones make for great skipping stones or stones to build towers with. You're able to swim here if you'd like, and there are buoys in the water to mark the swimming area. Also has restrooms on site and plenty of parking.

Oh my gosh amazing beach! Worth the ferry over just for the beach. Rocks are amazing! So smooth! The forest begs you to come in and play! As a beach connoisseur...I can't emphasize enough...don't miss this one!

It's a really nice beach, clear water and unique rocks made of limestone apparently. I would've loved to have a swim in the water but maybe next time. Quite a few spiders hiding in the rocks but it's nature.

My family has been to Washington Island a few times now, but during our last trip we mainly stayed on Schoolhouse Beach. It’s like something out of a fairytale! Breathtakingly beautiful. The limestone rocks are mesmerizing. The water is crystal clear and the cedar trees are enchanting. Can’t wait to go back! We’ve got 3 kids under 4 and they all stayed entertained for hours.

What an amazing hidden beach! Local bartender suggested it, and it was the best stop on the island. The clearest water, and most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Gets deep fast, but water is so clear you can see the bottom even when it gets 15-20ft deep. Crystal clear and beautiful white stone beach. I can't say enough to describe how beautiful this beach was.

Unique beach of round and flat limestones. Perfect for skipping. Small park which fills up quickly. Many parking areas, picnic tables and benches.

One of the most beautiful 'beaches' I've ever seen. Also - when we were there one of the busiest. We tend to go away from the crowds not toward them. If you want this place to yourself your best bet would be to find accommodations on the island and get here either before the first ferry arrives or after the last one leaves for the day. It was an awesome place to visit minus the crowd.

We took an atv here. I love the shaded area with the trees you can walk under and through, making this natural canopy. The beach is all rocks right? You know that. But just remember. It's ALL rocks. There's no sand. Not even gravel to rest your feet once you get past that tree line. With bare feet, it hurts. And they get hot. So bring swim shoes. Not even flip flops. You'll have a hard time keeping them on. Some people just resort to wearing shoes in the water. And of course some just grin and bare it while they fumble around. Just bring the swim shoes. Oh and there's a lot of rock throwing. Imagine that.

It is absurd and a pity that 10% of this place is public and the rest is private. Would have loved to walk around the bay and back. The location is great, however, given the small portion available, consider not getting there on a national holiday or weekend as it might not be as enjoyable. We were there at 9 AM on a sunday and it was already with 50+ people around. Parking is limited. There is a public restroom in case it is needed and the pines around are beautiful.

We made the trek from the peninsula to the ferry and drive to the Stavkirke. Was not disappointed. Open to the public and not particularly hard to find, the church is just off the road about to yards via a boardwalk. If you happen to be here Sundays in the summer, the church hosts services in the Stavkirke. Check with the main church building across the street for times.

I would say one of the stops to see on the island was beautiful. The walk in the park little nature trail to the side inside was beautiful even though a small. I still recommend someone seeing this.

This is a beautiful building and a great symbol of some of the heritage that has shaped the Door County Peninsula. It’s a very quiet and peaceful place to visit. The grounds are kept well and are nice to walk through. Sometimes the church is open and we always enjoy taking a peek inside when we are able to.

Open when we went on a Tuesday afternoon. Nice trails around the building, but you can park right in front, so no hiking necessary. There is a 2nd parking lot on the other side with a short walk through the woods.

Beautiful little church. Impressive architecture in a peaceful woodsy area, but right off the road and easy to get to. Has a wooden path/ramp from the parking area to the outside of the church so it's easy to walk there and more accessible. Worth a stop!

A unique and peaceful experience even among other tourists. Every visitor seemed pensive and in awe while inside. If you are on the island this is definitely worth the stop.

One of the coolest buildings I've ever been to. The simplicity adds to the complexity. It's a definite must stop and make sure you start with the wooded walk, mazing through the trees with the dark structure in the shadows.

Based on what we read ahead of visiting, I suppose we expected to be rather impressed with Historic Island Dairy. On the contrary, we were merely... "whelmed"... by what we found. It doesn't seem to have any of the charm that we found in so many other places throughout Door County. While it does have an impressive interior - with a full (and I mean full) timeline of the location's history, and all sorts of wonderful lavender-based products - the outward appearance is somewhat lacking. The lavender garden itself is quite sparse, and not very picturesque. The buildings are all just kind of "there" - even the stavkirke-themed playhouse doesn't spark any real inspiration. Maybe we hit it on an off-season, maybe they just need some pep in their step, maybe don't get too hyped about this particular lavender farm.

The site was well kept and clean. When We entered the building we were sprayed with scented based sanitizer without asking whether or not we preferred an unscentedbscented option or had our own.The latter would have been preferred as it was very hard to enjoy any of the products!due to the heavy scent. Most disappointing was the lack of rest rooms. Clearly if you can be wiping down surfaces and having a business you can organize how to sanitize a bathroom. We had to drive to a public park for me to wash off the scent of the spray hand sanitizer. I had hoped to purchase gifts here but left with such a headache from the sanitizer that I then went elsewhere to purchase gifts. They need to respect that people may not want smell like perfume all day.

They have the history inside and they also have a lavender Field.

Fun place to stop. The owners were gracious and patient with our kids, who enjoyed the shop. Plenty of fun history, art and a well-curated shop.

We had the absolute BEST time in this museum—given the free nature of the museum and its location on Washington Island, we were so overjoyed to discover how many gems there were in this genuine, original construction of a Washington Island cabin. The guide working on-site was incredibly knowledgeable and more than happy to share information with us, including answering questions we had. Her love of history and the island was so clear it made the experience even more positive. Now, to be clear this is not a gigantic museum on par with MKE Public but what it is—is a gem on the shores of Little Lake rich in history. You’ll want to check it out while you’re on the island and see all the things you can. Put it on your Washington Island list!

Nice little museum, filled with artifacts of the Door Peninsula's history. Some of it from the founder's personal collection, some donated by others. All of it fascinating.

The main museum was closed when we went at the end of May, but there is some stuff outside to see. Museum is very small. Beautiful surroundings, and there is a small lake nearby.

Just an awesome museum about the island. Very small but full of stuff all about the island and its people. The women working in museum really made it shine she was so nice and was so proud of her island she walked us threw showing us and describing every piece and the passion she had for every item really connected with me and my family. Really worth the stop and we will be returning next summer;)

Just an amazing peice of island history, and a great way too spend an hour or so looking at past farming techniques, love the weaving room. And they do farm based activities throughout the year. Also the only place I've seen a 3 horned sheep and he was awesome

A wonderfully detailed exhibit of farm (and daily) life on the island before modernization. What an extraordinary lot of volunteer effort went into this outdoor history museum, starting in 1965. Washington island is small, but closely held among original families still, so there was both the passion, memory, and access to physical specimens. It really needs several years of college intern or grant funding to update and clean, but it is a thought provoking time capsule of the way life was when most everything was done by hand or horse. From carrying all household water from the lake each day (neck yokes and bucket on display), to all sorts of farm implements run off an exchangeable belt driven power take off. Many old and original farm buildings have been relocated from across the island. The minimal space and belongings with which people made due is a sobering reminder of the abundance of consumer goods we surround ourselves with today. The extensive display of household utensils is a lesson in how much hand work was involved in every, even the simplest, chore -- but the diversity and ingenuity of tools in trying to make tasks quicker or less labor intensive is inspiring also An amazing resource and well worth the visit. Easily accessible by bike or trolley. Free will offering.

I always enjoy places like this and this one didn't disappoint. The displays paint a picture of early farm life in general and specifically on Washington Island. There's a wide variety of farm tools on display, including a working barn loom. The recommended donation is $1 per person and it's worth that and more.

If you are in Door County this island should be one of your stops! Take the cherry train for a fun guided tour of the hotspots. Or take your own car across the fairy and do a self-guided tour.

Great piece of island history and fun for the entire family! Self guided tours around the property. Thursdays in the summer, offer class for kids. The farm equipment is unique and interesting to see. Don't forgot your quarters to feed the goats and other animals. The buildings are unique as well and neat.

There's a lot to see here, but there's not a ton of information about it and the exhibits seem to be kind of thrown together. If you're on the island already and interested in farming history, you might enjoy the stop. The animals are certainly friendly.

My fiance and I had an absolute blast at this small farming museum. Museum isn't really the right word. This is more of a handcrafted exhibit that takes you through some of the history of farming equipment and more specifically life as a farmer in Washington Island. I highly highly recommend visiting and looking at all the machinery in historical pieces on display. Just like the pictures show they do have a couple goats sheep and chickens that are all very friendly and always looking to get fed. There's an apple tree near the enclosure. The goats really liked it when we grabbed apples that fell off and brought them to their enclosure. The whole thing is free but I highly recommend giving a generous donation because there are people that take their time to maintain this property and to feed the animals. A fantastic piece of Door County history

Beautiful spot to get breathtaking views of the door county’s natural beauty. Maps navigation was incorrect, so we used google maps to reach this place. There were lots of stairs to climb but it was fun. Got to see some amazing fall colors n took some great pics at the top of the tower. It was totally worth climbing the tower to reach the top!

Cool tower to get a view of parts of the island. The steps up to the tower are well maintained and manageable with some benches for those who may wish to rest. The tower steps are not too difficult to climb. Also a nice little park as you pull in with a Porto potty.

Made it. You don’t really know how many steps you have to climb until you commit to it. There are like 8 sections of wooden stairs to climb to reach the tower where there are more stairs at the tower, like 8 sections again. (Approximate.) The view is of the roadways, island views, with a bit of water in the distance. The views over 1/2 of the platform are just tree tops. See the pictures in the reviews. If you want the challenge and that view, go for it. Not a hike, lots of steps. Signage is poor. A small sign around 6’ up on a tree. Follow your map and look for the small sign.

A truly amazing view of the small islands between Washington and Michigan mainland, On a clear Day you can see 25+ miles. The northern lights are amazing if you can catch them up here as well as the meteor showers

The tower is great to climb up and have some exercise. There is quite a bit of stairs leading to the tower and then you have to climb the tower itself. You can check the pics in the reviews to see what kind of view is there.

What a gorgeous view of Washington Island from the tower! It is worth every step, literally. There are seats to rest on your way up if you need to. Leave a donation at the bottom of the steps to help keep this beautiful area maintained so others may enjoy.

It's not a hike to get to the tower at all. Just several flights of stairs. Pretty view at the top though!

This tower has beautiful views of the island looking north to Rock Island and the U.P. Be sure to leave a donation,so that this treasure can be maintained for all to enjoy and marvel at the epic views.

The views were fantastic and the climb to the top was fairly easy.

A must place to visit if you are here in fall. Fun for toddlers to climb up the stairs and then see the wonderful view of nature’s creation. You can also spend some time in the forest nearby.

Wasn't interested in the slightest by the Art section of the building, but the Nature part had some interesting exhibits (they had snapping turtles, crayfish, gobies, antlions, and bees on display). The exhibits do seem to be more orientated for the young folk, but I still got a kick out of it

The Art and Nature center is an old school house that is now used to display local art and native animals. It is a fun place for adults and children. You can learn about Washington Island natural history and hold snakes and see many other creatures. The center is open from mid June to mid September. There are many art and nature classes and hikes. If you come to Washington Island, don't miss the Art and Nature center.

This is a cute place to visit. It only costs $1 cash to get in. There are two rooms, the art gallery, with art and also gift shop type items (which you can pay for with a card) and the nature area complete with bees, turtles, fish, snakes, etc. It also features a children's play area and a 3-D map of the island.

The center was closed. We were very disappointed. The sign outside indicated it isn't open until later in June (I think the 26th but not sure). We researched before coming to the island and didn't find anything alerting us to the closure. I was at the center 10+ years ago and enjoyed it then.

You get to pay $1 per person to walk into a gift shop. The butterflies outside were really pretty, but it's a stretch calling a gift shop a 'nature center'.

This place is pure joy! They offer a fabulous assortment of new reads, best sellers, classics, and local authors. They also have fun gifts available for readers and non-readers alike. The lady assisting us spent at least 10 minutes patiently going through every kids’ book to find just the right one for my friend’s very selective son. Do yourself a favor and stop by!

We had a lovely time at Fair Isle! The books are so fun (even some signed ones!) and all the other jewelry, clothing, trinkets, etc. is fair trade! The lady working gave us a wonderful trail recommendation as well.

Wonderful store! We came to get books for our kids and left with some great books and a couple really cute Washington Island shirts for them as well. Such nice people. They made a great recommendation for our daughter and opened us to a whole series we didn't knew existed, but need to have. They were very gracious about us coming in soon before close. A HIDDEN GEM! An amazing bookstore with a well-thought out and thorough selection of books and products. We went this past summer, and we were delighted to see the amazing selection. The owner helped us find everything we needed. They also have a rare section of local books that are all mostly signed!

It’s a nice little collection of old boats and history. It’s very small and didn’t take much time to complete the tour.

My wife and I stopped in during our vacation. At first, it didn't seem like much, but when i met Butch, that all changed. He is very personable, and has a wealth of knowledge about the harbor and the early days of fishing in the harbor. It was a real treat to talk to him and Charlie( who was working on boat whistles). This is a wonderful little park. Grills, bathrooms and a nice sand beach. Makes a great place for beach day. Unfortunately our trip to Percy Johnson Park was not fun because of the Alewife fish that washed up on shore and all the dying fish created black water and a horrible smell.

Nice quiet sandy beach. The park has picnic tables and charcoal grills available for public use as well as pit toilets a couple fire rings. Bathrooms could use a little attention. Other than that this is a nice little park.

Must see for the sunrise! Hidden secret during the morning hours and afternoon beach area! Not as busy as others, limited parking though and not as nice as others on the island

Water is not very clean here. There are much better beaches at Washington island, for example, sand dunes beach.

A very nice hiking trail. We took this hike during some rainy weather & had the hike all to our selves. The little lake and “big” lake are separated by 50 feet. Super cool!

This was a good hiking trail. Not very marked tho. And very rocky. But the view of the Lake was breath taking. Pet friendly.

Easy hike. Stay on trail as there is hunting in the area depending on season.

This is in an area on the very northwest corner of Washington Island. Not too many people get up this far. Finding this place was not helped by Yelp's erroneous location. At first we ended up on Allouez Trail. Gets you close but ends in private property. Google Earth took us to Little Lake Road (duh!), which is quite south of where you think the right road should be. This road takes you to the Jacobsen Museum (worthy of a visit, if you can catch it open) with this pretty little lake just to the east of the museum. There was once a large Native American encampment here. Most of the northern part of the lake is in preserve And it is a pretty lake...a lake on an island in a lake. A few artifacts are scattered about..an old rock wagon and a salvaged rudder among them. You can lauch a canoe or kayak here. The preserve around the lake is 32 scres with an easy 1.25 mile hiking trail. Birding is great! We had permission from the owner of the Hotel Washington to access her property and we walked to the cliffside of Green Bay. All in all a pretty place to visit. I'm sure there's a ton of fish there, too. If you're on Washington Island and looking for a lesser known place it would behoove you to drive or bike here. Two asides...the bird you hear singing in the woods is likely a red eyed vireo, they are everywhere on the island. You will see an unfamiliar flag around the island. It is the flag of Iceland, many of the early folks who settled on Washington Island came from or had ancestry from Iceland. The tradition continues.

Off the beat hiking tour around a lake scene that most tourist will not be able to find. The location is difficult to find but there is a sign by the road and a little area for parking. Great view of the Lake Michigan and the smaller Little Lake. Highly recommend for some beautiful, quiet hike area

Great way to spend Saturday night. As a visitor to the island, great history of the island and fisherman's life stories.

Excellent place to take in a show or come for Sunday church, the facility is great and not a bad seat in the place. Look for different things to do with the schedule each year and it's very impressive the options that the Island gets!

A gem of an arts center on this lovely island. The venue is intimate and accoustics lovely. I have attended a number of events from theater to classical and contemporary music and enjoyed both the professional quality as well as the frequent opportunity to interact with the performers.

Sat outside for a wonderful concert as part of the Festival so can't speak to the auditorium amenities.

Yet another beach in Door County with crystal clear water and excellent skipping stones. The evergreen boreal forest trees that line the shoreline help to create a masterpiece of majestic natural scenery. Beautiful lakeshores like Schoolhouse Beach Park are the reason that Door County stands out from other places in Wisconsin in an amazingly unique way.

First of all this whole island was beautiful! I really loved this beach. The water was clean looking and the rocks really looked good when taking photos. The beach was really scenic and very clean looking. Would totally recommend coming here you will have a great time! 👍

One of the highlights of our Washington Island visit. We made a stop on a Saturday in June and encountered a decent amount of visitors, but this clear, smooth-stoned beach is a must visit location if you come to the island. There seemed to be ample parking, and while we weren't there to picnic, there seemed to be plenty of places to sit and enjoy the space. Do not come expecting to take some of the rocks home. Rock hounding is highly discouraged and violators face a hefty $250 fine.

Beautiful! The entire beach consists of perfectly smooth stones. Never seen anything like it. The stones make for great skipping stones or stones to build towers with. You're able to swim here if you'd like, and there are buoys in the water to mark the swimming area. Also has restrooms on site and plenty of parking.

Oh my gosh amazing beach! Worth the ferry over just for the beach. Rocks are amazing! So smooth! The forest begs you to come in and play! As a beach connoisseur...I can't emphasize enough...don't miss this one!

It's a really nice beach, clear water and unique rocks made of limestone apparently. I would've loved to have a swim in the water but maybe next time. Quite a few spiders hiding in the rocks but it's nature.

My family has been to Washington Island a few times now, but during our last trip we mainly stayed on Schoolhouse Beach. It’s like something out of a fairytale! Breathtakingly beautiful. The limestone rocks are mesmerizing. The water is crystal clear and the cedar trees are enchanting. Can’t wait to go back! We’ve got 3 kids under 4 and they all stayed entertained for hours.

What an amazing hidden beach! Local bartender suggested it, and it was the best stop on the island. The clearest water, and most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Gets deep fast, but water is so clear you can see the bottom even when it gets 15-20ft deep. Crystal clear and beautiful white stone beach. I can't say enough to describe how beautiful this beach was.

Unique beach of round and flat limestones. Perfect for skipping. Small park which fills up quickly. Many parking areas, picnic tables and benches.

One of the most beautiful 'beaches' I've ever seen. Also - when we were there one of the busiest. We tend to go away from the crowds not toward them. If you want this place to yourself your best bet would be to find accommodations on the island and get here either before the first ferry arrives or after the last one leaves for the day. It was an awesome place to visit minus the crowd.

We took an atv here. I love the shaded area with the trees you can walk under and through, making this natural canopy. The beach is all rocks right? You know that. But just remember. It's ALL rocks. There's no sand. Not even gravel to rest your feet once you get past that tree line. With bare feet, it hurts. And they get hot. So bring swim shoes. Not even flip flops. You'll have a hard time keeping them on. Some people just resort to wearing shoes in the water. And of course some just grin and bare it while they fumble around. Just bring the swim shoes. Oh and there's a lot of rock throwing. Imagine that.

It is absurd and a pity that 10% of this place is public and the rest is private. Would have loved to walk around the bay and back. The location is great, however, given the small portion available, consider not getting there on a national holiday or weekend as it might not be as enjoyable. We were there at 9 AM on a sunday and it was already with 50+ people around. Parking is limited. There is a public restroom in case it is needed and the pines around are beautiful.

An absolutely beautiful old church tucked in the forest. You can hear birds all around as you approach and there are flowers everywhere. You can go inside the church and look around as well as walk on some trails that connect to the church. Highly recommend
