I highly recommend stopping here. There are a lot of parking spaces but it is a busy stop. There are restrooms here. Take in all of the view, walk around and enjoy this time. You can see so much and it is all beautiful.

Sotol Vista has a beautiful view of the summer sunset. It's a fair drive from any campground but worth it. The parking area has enough room for a couple of dozen cars. There's also a single bathroom stall just in case nature calls while you're in the middle of almost nowhere. Arrive an hour before sunset for easy parking and the full experience of the sky color change.

This spot is just breathtaking. The pictures don’t do it justice. Be careful going up the mountainside as there are no guard rails. If you’re passing through, please make sure to stop here. There is also a restroom located here.

Great clean museum with lots of Big Bend history as far back as prehistoric times. It's like stepping into a timeline. Lots of beautiful artwork too. A must see in Alpine Texas.

Came to visit the area in a February and wound up spending some time in this museum. Enjoyed the free visit. Not a huge place, but definitely full of information and insights of the college and surrounding area. The full life-sized flying dinosaur (sorry, can't spell it!) was very impressive as was the fossilized bones of just ONE enormous wing. The usual cowboy, frontier, and old-time exhibits were also around to be enjoyed and to learn. Definitely a fun & interesting place to spend the time and if I had young kids it would be a MUST see spot.

Highly recommend to stop by if you happen to be in Alpine. Museum has a lot of unique pieces and cool scenes. What is also really nice is that they have interactive stands with short videos, that provide information about the exhibition.

What an amazing experience! I had no idea that Hoss Cartwrite graduated from Sul Ross University. Everything in the museum (from the paintings to the exhibits and maps) tells a gorgeous and impressive story of the Big Bend region. It's a must visit location!

This is a great little museum located on the campus of Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. It tells the story of the Big Bend region and those who first came here from Europe. There are some great prehistoric artifacts and beautiful artwork from local region artists. The maps, located in the basement employee area, though few in number, were also very interesting. Enjoy the photos.

So many tasty beers that I can't get back here in San Antonio. I took my time and enjoyed them. The bartender was very friendly and welcoming, certainly helped turn around what had been a rough weekend. And of course the scenery was beautiful. Well worth the detour coming home from El Paso.

Great brewery! Very good selection of beers and also a great place to hang out. The views are great and they have several picnic tables inside and out to hangout and enjoy a flight or a pint. I really liked the gold pale ale. They don't serve food but you can bring some if you want. They're also kid and dog friendly which is nice. Definitely a place worth visiting if you're in Apline!

Must stop anytime we find ourselves in West Texas, going to Big Bend. Good beers, nice place...though it is a warehouse so hot in the summer and COLD in the winter. Alpine is close by as is Maria and all it’s cool weirdness. Don’t bypass Alpine though, it is bigger than you think and has a lot of personality!

This is the best brewery you'll find in the area, and that's not a problem. Friendly bartenders help suggest the best brew for your taste. There's no food on site, but you can bring outside food in. It's a perfect way to get back to the world after camping and hiking in Big Bend.

In the Texas heat the last thing you expect on the side of the road is a cold, fresh brewed beer... But Big Bend Brewing definitely delivers. The La Frontera is an amazing ipa that quenches the thirst and gives just the right amount of crisp afterbite of hops. The staff is friendly, knowledge and good at finding the right beer for you. Would definitely recommend coming in on a hot summer afternoon with family, friends, or the significant other.

Went to watch the local High School team against a nearby rival. 6 innings of great chance to relax and watch some baseball.)I missed the first one) The seats we reasonably comfortable and I'm a fairly big guy. Looked like there wet some concession items available. I did stop by the vendor area. The tone of the entire crowd was energetic but relaxed. From over heard remarks it seems the netting was replaced recently and things were in generally good repair. I would certainly go to another game here...

This famous park was once the jewell of minor league parks across the country. It's still very nice. The concessions are reasonably priced - try the brisket nachos, they're awesome. Typically, for a Cowboys game it's 6 dollars admission for those over 12 years old, and free for those under.

If you're a baseball nut then you need to visit Kokernot. It's a historic ballpark with lots of class. I used to attend Sul Ross baseball and Alpine Cowboy games, and the atmosphere was always great.

These guys are amazing and wonderful to talk with while browsing the museum-like shop they've cultivated. Tons of Texas and other awesome artifacts found here! We will treasure our western wear and souvenirs. Worth a visit everytime... PS - there are real cheshire cats too!

Best antique store in the West. Russ who owns the place, wrote his dissertation in Texas spurs. His knowledge is deep and he shares it generously. He is also generous with his dragons horde of rocks, gems and skulls. He went out back to find me the perfect rams skull in the condition and price range that I was looking for. Then he offered my kids free geodes on our way out. After spending the week exploring far West Texas, including Big Bend National park, Russ and Cheshire Cat Antiques is what my kids talked about the most. And yes there are plenty of of cats to pet on the front porch.

Cheshire Cat Antiques was my very first stop in Alpine, and I couldn't be more happy that it was. It set the perfect tone for the rest of the trip. Definitely a must stop! Russ and his mother are so welcoming & make you feel like one of their own. All treasures are fairly priced. Russ was very knowledgeable about every piece in there. Hard to find. It's beside the baseball fields but without any signs to direct you to the actual park. There was water there for the dogs and a god fence. There were a couple of dog agility props available. Separate areas for big and small dogs.

Hard to find google maps says it’s right in the middle of the main road. If you get out and try to walk from the ball field closest to where maps drops you the field is covered in stickers. Patch of dirt once you find it but allows dogs to do what they need to off leash. People don’t pick up after dogs tho.

I love this little, charming bookstore. I make a point to stop in every time I pass through Alpine. They have the usual new fiction and a great section of regional books. Big Bend oriented books and history that is rarely seen anywhere else. All that's missing is a shop cat.

I always make a point to stop in at the local indie bookstore when I’m traveling, and this one is a gem. Beautiful curated and displayed collection of books with helpful handwritten recommendations by the staff tucked in as bookmarks in many. There selection of books on local history, travels and nature guides simply cannot be beat. I couldn’t drag myself out my kids out of this store until closing time. We left with a stack of books, including some wrapped mystery books that the staff gave to my children as Christmas presents.

Has a great variety of new and used books. Lots of genres to choose from, connected to a coffee shop as well. Staff is very relaxed and lets you browse, if you need help and ask at the counter they are very knowledgeable on what’s in the store on hand.
