I recently visited Little Adam's Peak and was blown away by the breathtaking views. The climb to the top was a challenge, but the views from the top made it all worth it. The mountain stands at a height of 1141 meters and offers plenty of opportunities to capture stunning pictures. I particularly enjoyed visiting the peaceful corner of the mountain where I was able to sit and enjoy the panoramic views. The wind was quite chilly, but the experience was truly exhilarating. I would recommend Little Adam's Peak to anyone looking for an adventure and beautiful scenery.

As an avid hiker I can say this is just a pleasant short stroll. All paved and stairs and quite crowded. Decent view at the top. The zip lines really ruin the ambiance. I probably would just go for proper Adams peak and skip little Adams if I could do it again.

Great viewpoint in Ella. From the starting point (Little Adam‘s Peak trailhead) you will need 15 to 20 minutes to get up. It’s mostly stairs, and the path is not very challenging. From the top, you will get a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and landscape. Recommended to go early in the morning for sunrise.

The best view point in Ella Little Adams Peak whether considering the word ‘Little’,it is named after the sacred Adams Peak (Sri Pada –where the foot print of Lord Buddha is preserved) regarding the similarity between the two mountains. Therefore the mountain was called as Little Adams Peak. “Punchi Sri Pada” is another name for this peak. It is 1141 m in height. Little Adam’s Peak attracts many travelers who come to Sri Lanka. Gradually with an easy hike up to the mountain of Little Adams Peak you can consummation a worth panoramic view. You have to walk through lush green tea plantations, waterfalls and paddy fields while enjoying the sceneries. It will be priceless if you could visit the place in the morning when the clouds roll in. Further places like Little Adams Peak deliberates ‘How far Sri Lanka is worth and rich with beautiful natural destinations of Sri Lankan tourism’. It will feel like a neck exercise for the visitors as you have to rotate your body to seek the views outstanding for 360 degrees. Ella town is a small town among the up county destinations consisted of waterfalls, caves and geographically significant places. One such place is Adams Peak, figured in Pyramid Shape Mountain which stands opposite of the Ella rock. Be aware not to harm the plants, flowers and animals that will meet on your journey up to the mountain. You could see the people who are plucking and collecting tea leaves, working in their estates. It will take around 35-45 min to reach to the top of the mountain on a zig- zag path. Thus it is an ideal place to watch sun rise in the morning. With prodigious views of as far as Ella rock and down to the gap will be gorgeous. It is a must to say that ‘don’t forget to wake up early in the morning and climb the mountain before it gets hot’ otherwise you will feel tired. Although take a bottle of water with you. If you could have a cup of tea or something you may feel better on your way back to the hotel or home.

Unforgettable Experience Best Time to go Early in the morning and evening time.. Take 1L of water. At the top no place to find the water. Few peaks to rich and need to backtrack same way. It's an amazing view of Ella rock and Ella gap Very easy to find the path During the week days less crowd and week ends little busy.

A very simple stairs hike that takes about 15 min or so to reach the top! But the view is about the same as when you’re walking from Ella Swing to Ravana Flying Fox to up here. Unfortunately it started drizzling halfway while we were going up. Otherwise would be better. Overall an easy hike.

Stunning place! The walk up to the peak is very easy and manageable, and with great views all the way up. There are signs at the base to help get you started. Did the hike for sunrise and it was well worth it! Beautiful landscapes at the top and no rubbish left around! The path is very well signed (impossible to miss). The views from the top are unique and absolutely worth the climbing. One of my favourite memories in Ella!

Beautiful view! Went for sunrise and even though it was cloudy it was still stunning. Relatively easy walk to the top so all fitness levels can do this. A few places at the top to sit and take in the view. No charge, so definitely worth the visit if you are in Ella.

It consist of 3 peaks, of which the last trial is little difficult one but the best.. 10 min from ella town, Hardly 500 - 600 mtr from the parking, & 2 hours to complete the trek. There are steps leading to the first peak. Also you can see the mega zipline on the way. A must visit location for a day trip in ella.

Best time to go is right after sunrise and before 8am. No-one up there and not hot at all. Absolutely beautiful.

Beautiful view and a little bit of exercise to get there 💪. About 30 minutes from the beginning of the road and 20 minutes from Ravana Pool Club (I don't recommend the pool club). It gets very hot so it's better to go in the morning or afternoon. Highly recommended!

Lovely spot and I imagine amazing views. It did rain on us most of the time and the clouds came in but still worth the hike. It’s quite an easy walk if you’re worried about your fitness.

I loved this little hike that is accessible for everyone! The view is incredible also during the day (no need to go there for sunrise)! Also you can combine it with the Zip Line if you want some adrenaline.

We enjoyed our little hike. Just be aware that you will be walking up stairs most of the way. If you keep left at the top, you can hike up some hills. People with a low level of fitness might have some problems.

Very nice view point. There is a 20-30 minute hike through the tea plantations to arrive the top of the mountain. The view is marvelous and there is a 360° view. We can walk long distance at the top of the mountain. Children also Can easily go this hike. Can visit Flying Rawana adventure camp while climbing the hill. In front of Little Adams peek we can see the Ella rock.

The hike is not the easiest ,it's medium...there are many steps to climb upto the view point..n from the main road will take 30 min to get here by walk.

So about this hike. It is quite nice and the landscape and view is amazing. The thing is it's not so easy to find it by yourself as there are no signs and locals try to get you to choose them as guides. Also it's very steep and can be quite slippery, especially when going down. Wear good shoes!! But even when it's cloudy (like it was when we were there at 6:30) it's still beautiful. I really recommend to go there at sunrise though so you don't have any clouds. Just start really early so you are up at 5:30/06:00 latest.

Great hike this! Super scenic and not too challenging. The hardest part is probably the last 30 minutes as it starts to get pretty steep. I highly recommend downloading a trails app to show you the routes you can take as it can become very unclear at times where you should be walking. You can find the start to this trail by walking along the track from Ella train station for about an hour or so and you will find the start on your left. You will then walk over a tiny bridge that is over a small waterfall, which then leads through a tea plantation where you will find the workers picking. Really quite beautiful! Make sure you bring enough water to last you 3/4 hours total, or bring cash as there are locals selling drinks. There is a fee at the top of 930 rupees to see the view, however we just sat around on the benches up there for around 30 minutes and the guard just let us through for free after trying your best haggle is to come in. Highly recommend this hike!!

If you love living green, then Ella is obviously a place to visit. Ella Rock is one of the place which proves it. Trekkers would love the place. It’s bit tiring to do the hiking. But it is definitely worth it. Once you got to the summit you will realize why we said so. The panoramic views it provides with mist and cloud covering the area, especially in the early mornings and the late evenings are something you should witness and that would suffice enough to say that you visited Ella. Total time for climbing up and down is 4 hours. Yes, sounds like a long journey. But the way up there is with full of diversity. If you are starting form Ella train station, you would enjoy the rail walk, and soon as you started climbing up, you will be passing a waterfall, the rubber tree forest and tea plantations. On a rainy day, it can be slippery, so better be cautious with what you wear for the journey. Wear something suitable for a hiking and towards the end of the hike, route will get bit harder with the steep, still manageable. Kind request for all the trekkers, Ella is popular among many people for its echo-liveliness and the calm-countryside atmosphere. So help us protect the area by being responsible on your visit. Please make sure you don’t throw all those plastic bottles, food wrappers here and there. Bring trash bags and pack out everything you bring in so it can be disposed in an appropriate place. And don’t just stop with your own trash. We all can be happy when we visit the place next time, if we can see the place looking better than when we got there. This is what the turn-off point looks like. Accurate location but can be difficult to locate while it's still dark if you're doing the sunrise hike.

Download a map before you go, I also posted one on Strava. It’s easy to get lost but you really don’t need a guide to go. Entrance is not free, 900lkr. Or just follow the train tracks to the entrance and there you can follow dogs to the top :). Get some crackers to thank them and they will make sure you go up and down easily like they did for me. I had a full dog guide service until train station.

Ella Rock stands out as one of Sri Lanka's top tourist destinations, especially during the early morning for a breathtaking sunrise. Be cautious of locals attempting scams by misleading you on paths or overcharging for guides. Optimal access is possible by using trains to reach near the trailhead, getting off at Kithal Ella station. Walk 300-500 meters towards Heel Oya direction, turn sharp left at the narrow bridge, proceed through the tea plantation area, and ascend easily without the need for guides. Leeches are minimal, and watch out for high prices at snack shops along the trail.

A must-walk trail. Diverse views and surroundings. Walking on railway, seeing tea plantations, rice fields, waterfall and finally breathtaking views on valley, hills, village and Rawana waterfall is absolute essence of this area. Tips. Download a OSM map based app and follow directions to Ella rock. Google maps won’t be helpful (sorry Google!) and will get you lost cause trail in lower parts goes through rice fields and tea plantations. And ways to reach final climb are plenty. Reaching the Ella Rock is 3-part journey. First, starting from Ella you must walk along railway, then find your path though village with little help of locals, then reach the final climb and you’re done. ☑️ Reaching the top. Ella rock view is good but don’t finish there because on south part of mountain there another second view point- even better in my opinion. Don’t bother if you forget something to eat or drink - local booths on the way won’t leave you hungry or thirsty.

This is the start but take local signage with pinch salt as it gets you lost, which is supposed to, so you need to pay for local guide, who soon pick up on you. After the bridge If your walking across an open padi field you've gone wrong, go back and take the left fork past several any hills up a clearly walked path. When you come back over the bridge take a dip in the river

The full experience is when you get to the trailhead by train track( from Ella train station) And also don't forget there are 2 viewpoints on top of the hill ( the one further is much nicer)

I give it one star because after doing the whole excursion, they make you pay an entrance fee to do only 40 metres and see the view. It would be understandable if the path was well signposted and well maintained but this is not the case. It seems ridiculous to me that they make you pay just to see the view at the end. It really isn't worth paying the entrance fee. The path can be easily followed with a geolocation app, I used Wikilok, and it is not necessary to hire a guide.

This is a great sign to turn left towards the trail leading up, i would recommend using a flashlight during the night and search for the turn, you know you got it right when you go over a bridge over a waterfall. When passing the bridge i recommend using the trail on the left going up towards the fields and not turn right towards the jungle. Use some apps for trails that can help a lot!

One of the best things to do in Ella.Views are best at the sunrise.Can be managed without a guide.30-40 min hike to the top and better to go prepared.If you go by train from Kandy,get off at kithal ella station and it is not uneasy to find the way from there. there are little snack shops on the way to the top as well.Should not be missed if you are travelling to Ella and ready to experience a bit of hiking.

This trail is just an absolute gem while staying in Ella. It's a must for all hikers/nature lovers who do enjoy hiking. I'd classify it moderate to challenging trail and definitely not suitable for beginners. It starts off easy while walking on the train tracks from Ella town. Takes you through the tea plantations which are absolutely gorgeous until you start some light ascending through the forest. The most challenging and difficult part is the last push through the forest to the summit as it's very gravely with water flowing down through the narrow path where you definitely need to use a lot of balancing, good footwork and scrambling. It's also quite steep so better watch out for your knees. Sports shoes/trainers are totally ok! Just to know, at the top, there's a charge of 900LKR per person (foreigners) to go further to see the view and more walking to the other part of the forest. Best time to set off is super early so you can catch the sunrise on the top. Overall, it took us around 5hrs with breaks on the top.

A really great place to watch the sunrise. The hike is a little bit hard but shouldn't take more than 1 hour. We used the Google map to find the route for walking from Ella to the trailhead, but the thing is that you can take a shortcut by walking beside the train track from Ella to kitalElla.

If you’re looking for a breathtaking hiking experience, I highly recommend the Ella Rock trail. This trail offers a stunning landscape, brimming with natural beauty, making it a perfect choice for nature lovers. The difficulty level is low, making it accessible for most hikers. As a tip, remember to bring cash, as there’s a fee of 900 rupees at the top.

Simple hike with amazing views! I took off one star for 2 reasons: 1) there is a 921 Rs ticket charge for the final viewpoint, which is ridiculous and absolutely not worth it, as the best views are on the trail; 2) some locals near the blue house right after the rail track bridge purportedly lead people on the wrong path to scam them into hiring a guide. You do NOT need a guide to do that hike, it is a very simple hike and you cannot get lost!!! Just start the trail at “Ella’s Rock Trailhead” as shown on Google Map!! Google Map gives the right directions; DO NOT follow the directions given in the Lonely Planet Guide, and DO NOT listen to the locals who will lie to you and tell you that the way to Ella’s Rock starts at the blue house, right after the rail track bridge. It is a scam, they want you to hire a guide because you will have a very hard time finding the way and get lost if you try to use that route, because the path splits into numerous paths and the vegetation is so dense you cannot see where you’re going. Besides, it is a lot more dangerous as it is at the edge of the cliff, you need to climb a lot on that route, and the views are not as beautiful as on the other trail. Some people have fallen to their death on this route, with the latest fatal accident in March 2024. After the rail track bridge, go past the blue house until you reach Kithal Railway Station, then keep going straight and then take the turn on the left, where Google Map sets the trailhead, where you’ll see a river and rice paddies, then tea plantations. Then all you have to do is keep going straight the whole way (first climb up the tea plantations, then straight ahead). It absolutely does not require a guide, there is only one path and you meet other hikers going up or down every 5 minutes so you can’t get lost. That path is flat for most of the way and super easy, that’s why the locals try to send you to the hard trail instead to force you into getting a guide. Take the Google Map trail, not only it is a lot easier/safer, but the views are also nicer!

I have taken many cooking classes and this was definitely a favourite. Theeka provides a really fun and informative cooking experience. It was really cool to learn about all of the spices in the beautiful garden tour. The cooking class is extremely well set up, organized, visually appealing, and we made probably the best meal I had in Sri Lanka. You will leave with both a full belly & heart. Thanks again! 😊

We had an amazing experience! Very interesting, entertaining, engaging and very well organized. At first we had a tour in spice garden, then there was a cooking master class where everyone had a chance to participate and we receive very good explanations and in the end we had dinner all together with the food that we cooked. I also liked that the recipes were adapted for international audience (not very spicy)

This was our highlight in Sri Lanka so far! We really enjoyed our traditional and vegan cooking classes. The class is very well organised and informative, I particularly enjoyed the tour of the spice garden. If you come here, be sure to buy some of the home-grown spices to make the recipes at home.

A great cooking course, was really a lot of fun. Starting with the organization and communication, everything went smoothly. Small books with recipes were handed, many and the recipes were sent again afterwards online. Cooking the local food is a completely different experience and tastes even better. You got tips on how to do it at home. The mood during the course was very cheerful and the staff members were absolutely friendly, you even get a guided tour of their own little garden. All in one an absolute and clear recommendation!!

We had a brilliant evening learning authentic Sri Lankan cooking here. The main chef is amazing and clearly so passionate! And his assistants so lovely. It was so well organised and set up, but also you properly get to be involved. Every person is invited to be part of cooking something and the fact you get a full recipe book and other videos / pdf to take home is amazing! We met some lovely people too and sharing our food together at the end was perfect. Delicious and fun night!

It was a great experience, I loved to see where all the spices we use at home come from. The host was really knowledgeable, explained and showed us everything, had pictures of the things that were out of season and gave us leaves that we could smell. Unfortunately, the cooking class wasn't available. I highly recommend this experience!

Great experience. The Chef/guide was very knowledgeable and delivered it with a great flow. From an introductory sit down with a black tea. Followed by a tour of the spices in the garden that are grow naturally and are used in the dishes. We cooked 7 different items/dishes as a group which was fun interactive and insightful. The food tasted incredible and well worth the money. All in all a 5 star experience!!! Thanks

Our favourite activity in Ella! Theeka is a fantastic host - super charismatic, knowledgable & friendly. We really enjoyed this experience, the food was delicious & great tour of the gardens. Like many have already said, this experience was a definite highlight of our trip. It's very well run by Theeka who is clearly a great chef, very friendly and funny guy, and makes sure everyone has opportunity to participate. The guys assisting did a great job too, working hard to ensure the evening ran smoothly and ingredients were prepped properly. All dishes were super easy to follow and you get a recipe book to take home. I'm looking forward to replicating (especially the 100 bulb garlic curry)! We met lots of other travelers from all over the world, mingling over some unbelievable food that we'd all helped to cook - what's not to love!

The chef is very good in explaining and engaging participants. His English is also very good. Quality if the ingredients is high and there are many materials shared after the class to cook it at home. Actually, it was probably the best curry I had since arriving in Sei Lanka which was 7 days ago. Highly recommended.

The best (vegan) Sri Lankan cooking class with the friendliest of hosts, Tikka. After walking through his spice garden, learning about how each is grown and harvested, we started cooking our 7 dishes. Every step was explained well, with an interactive book for note taking, as well as plenty of opportunity to get involved in the cooking process. Lots of tips were shared too (like how to easily peel garlic). The food itself was delicious. By far one of the best cooking classes I have been to. Thank you Tikka and team!

Best souvenir shop in Ella. Prices are much cheaper than other shops in all locations we have been. It is just a one minute walk off the main street. Manu is great and he tells you the history behind every item. Highly recommend going here.

It's all about the journey and NOT the destination on this one. Cost is $200 rupees, so nothing. It's fairly easy to get to and close to town. It's a beautiful jungle walk about 500 meters long. Enjoy the wild life and scenery and when you enter the cave, look back and you'll notice the entrance is in the shape of a sharks fin! 👍 The temple is nothing to write home about, and honestly, I'm not in the slightest bit interested at this point. There are much better locations for that!

Best 200 rupees I've spent in Sri Lanka. There are a lot of steep steps up to the cave, but the views on the way up are good. It's like a trek in the jungle to a chior of bird song. There are very few tourists at the cave, at least there weren't when I was there. It's not the best cave in the World but you feel a good sense of achievement on reaching it. I thoroughly enjoyed the walk up and down.

Let's discover history of thousands year old. 640 steps to the cave at top of the hill. It took about 30/40 minutes to reach so better not to start counting/climbing stairs after 4 PM. Ticket price 200 SLR.

It's especially difficult with the rain because so many insects come your way. Be extremely cautious with snakes and leeches. that appear unexpectedly on your feet. Furthermore, to avoid mosquito bites, it is best to wear shoes alone. Even while ascending, be mindful of your steps because the rock steps are in such good condition that they can harm your feet. It is likewise not recommended to go in the evening. as climbing will take a long time. And the atmosphere deteriorates in the evening when it is dark and pouring. Carry a lamp if you intend to visit in the evening. You may also come across the company of dogs. which is lovely and cute. Who among the tourists desires food? Overall, the location was lovely and charming.

Ravana Ella Cave, 5 min from Ella town. 50 Lkr entry ticket, can be little difficult for elderly and unhealthy. It’s worth only one time visit, however felt like authorities are not giving enough importance in maintaining and preserving the caves. It would have been nice if there can be guided tour inside the limestone caves. According to Ramayana legend, King Ravana had a palace with big rooms & a lake. However just 100 mtr from the entrance the huge limestone cave converge into a small tunnel which is full of bats and too smelly. Travellers must climb 650 stairs to the entrance, a small area without stairs. There are no any toilet facilities, however a small food stall available.

If you have time in hand, you can chose to do it but you wont miss anything if you not climb this. Its a good exciting hike though! But got nothing to offer at the end. I was literary alone, and also quite freaked towards the end of the hike hahah

Along way to walk upward towards cave. But you will find ancient Ravana cave.. With 3 turnel in it. Obviously it's shutdown now. But i love it.. Its like a trek with exploring ancient Ramayan history. Ticket charge is there. LKR 200 ONLY.

The Ravana’s Cave situated 2 km away from the Ella town. It is a historical Cave . King Ravina used to hide Queen 👸 Sitha. 650 steps to reach Ravana’s cave . Then we can go inside 200 meters . It’s a small cave. After 200 meters one big stone block the cave. Inside of the cave one kind of birds made the nests 🪹 . Not that much adventure.

Easy access .. purchase ticket from little shop kiosk and then enter the little blue gate ... 30 mins approx non stop up hill steps but hand rail all the way to help. ( especially helpfully being older and overweight) Cave is small but worth the hike especially if you have kids.

It was a climb well worth. The feeling you get at the top with the very cold atmosphere surrounded by only rocks is super. Never have I felt that awesome anywhere else .

The cave is a huge cavity in a rock which people say leads to an underground tunnel. There have been reports stating that the tunnel leads to an underground open area with a lake and rooms, which are assumed to be parts of Ravana's palace. It is believed to have been the cave where Sita was imprisoned.

It's a pre historic cave and human dwelling. 20000 year old human remains have been found here, now kept in museum. As per Ramayana, Ravana kept Sita hidden for some time. It takes about 20min to climb the stairway. The cave takes 5min to explore.

A must visit on the Ramayana trail. The climb up is tough with close to 700 steps. The first 500 steps are stone and well formed and easy to climb. The last 200 or so are boulder steps and treacherous if you go in the rain. Would not recommend for people above 60 but it’s your call. Take a tuk tuk on the way back to the Main road if you’ve come walking because you will be sweaty and tired

Worth visiting find the breath taking view from the entrance. Entry will be 200 lkr.

Overrated cave, it would have been worth it if you could go deep inside the cave but that isn’t possible. You can only access few meters in and then seems like it is covered there’s only a very tiny passageway, I would have continued but there were bats right by that point and history tell us bats aren’t safe

Quite a few stairs walk up to get there (training for Adam’s Peak) but really not much to see except the cave with bats and when you come down there’s a little temple.

You can buy tickets at the entrance. It's Rs 50/- per person .You need to complete 650 steps to reach the ravana cave. The cave itself is pretty small, just to make your expectations realistic. You are allowed to go inside of the cave for only 200 meters. After those 200 meters there is a big stone that has been kept by the Government prohibiting people from going further inside. The view from the cave is impressive and if you like history and a little adventure, this is a great thing to do in Ella.

Access road is not comfortable to drive.there are two way access one is from walasbadda road and other one from demodara tea state factory road.best option is using Demodara Tea Factory road.there are some small tea shops there and parking space available.

The Demodara Loop is a spiral railway loop in Demodara and is a piece of cutting-edge civil engineering. The railway line runs underneath itself, around the mountain and appears from a tunnel which is below the Demodara Railway Station; this railway line is said to be the only one of its kind in the world. In the 20th century, the steep hills of Demodara proved to be difficult for building the current rail line; consequently, a spiral loop, around 441 feet long, was constructed. The engineering aside, Demodara Loop and its verdant surroundings are indeed a sight to behold; experience the charm of the area by taking a train ride, preferably from Ella to Demodara.

Loved being taken around the oldest tea manufacturer in Sri Lanka. Priya our tour guide was friendly and full of facts. It was great seeing the production chain in action, from picking to drying to sorting. Tea tasting was minimal but definitely showed off their best. Definitely worth the visit.

We have seen the whole process of making tea. So, we’re excited! It was a very informative tour from the factory guide Sallay. His explanation was on good English and it was very interesting!

Kinellan tea factory should be as high up on the tourist’s to-do list as Little Adam’s Peak and the Nine Arch Bridge. Manager gave us a fantastic tour of this working tea factory. There was a staff who gave us a detailed explanations of the tea making process and history of the factory highly informative and enjoyable. As this is a working tea factory, you get to observe the workers in full flow, which is immersive. Highly recommended!

Kinellan Tea Factory & Tea Centre is situated on the Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela Highway in Ella. Visitors can learn about the process of producing Ceylon tea from plucking and drying fresh leaves, to packing and shipping the finished tea product. Visitors also get a chance to taste a freshly brewed cup of tea and purchase gifts and souvenirs from the Tea Centre.

Entry fee for tour at the factory was 1500 per person. The guide took us through the entire process of making tea from picking leaves, drying, fermenting to making final different varietes of black tea. Also, we had tasting with freshly made cups of tea. They have a small store where you can buy their products for fair price (100 grams of OP tea just for 400 rupees)

If you haven't been to any tea factory in your life this place is really worth to visit. It is a small and authentic factory where you can have the chance to see how tea is produced from the tea leaf delivery until the shipping bags. The guide was really good, clear and understandable English, happy to answer all our questions. Entrance is 500 lkr, factory is open until 5pm.

Decent visit to a tea factory to learn how tea is made that will end with a little tasting of about 5 types of tea (tbh i could barely feel a difference between teas, my palate is obviously not good, but it was interesting still). A nice thing to do in ella on top of the usual hikes and 9arches visit. 1000lkr fee for the tour that will take 30min or so. Its a shame they don't offer a little visit to the plantation as well. Feels like travelling back in time a bit as many of the machines apart from the last one are from the 60s. It gives a nice vibe. Tea pickers work very hard collecting about 20kg of leaves in 8h for 1000lkr pay.

We had a guided tour trough the fabric, which was currently in production! Nice experience to see the traditional way for producing tea. Kind Personal. We were givenmany background information and were able to try the different tastes between the tea types. Absolutely worth it’s money

The staff was exceptionally friendly, the tea factory tour and the tea tasting were interesting. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, recommended for tea enthusiasts. You can buy some tea at the road shop next to the main street.

They do small tours adhoc when you arrive plus tea tasting at the end (you get to try 3 teas). Only on the way out after leaving the building is there a littler hut to buy tea if you want it. I liked how much casual it was and how the tour wasn't shared with anyone else, I also liked how they didn't push you to buy anything at the end either. There was an fee for the tour and it was around 1200 pp.

Your visit to Sri Lanka is incomplete if you have not visited a tea factory . Kinellan Tea Factory is not very far from Ella city. After the payment was made ,we were driven to the tea estates. There we met the supervisor who took us around and gave us info about the tea estates, how they are grown, plucked etc. We also met the ladies who pluck the tea leaves and got a chance to pluck a few leaves too! We went back to the factory and saw how the tea is processed in different stages right till it is packed. Finally we got a chance to taste 3 different samples of tea ☕. I would suggest a visit on a weekday to ensure more staff is at hand to attend to the guests especially at the payment counter. A must go !!

😡😡😡 Don’t go there and support this factory. Support the local woman working there if you can. Entrance is 1.500rp per person for a 15min tour without any information and explanation. A woman working in the factory earns 1.000rp PER DAY (8H). They don’t see anything from the big money they make out of the tours!! This shall be forbidden.

Probably the best thing we experienced in Ella as we found most of the to-dos overly touristy. This was the opposite. A really authentic insight into tea production at a non industrial scale. Worth the money if you’re interested in seeing how tea has been produced in the same way for decades. Don’t expect anything polished, but that’s what makes it unique.

The room is very spacious and clean, you have your own veranda outside where you overlook the tea plantations. I had the best shower in Sri Lanka there with amazing pressure and hot water. The location is good, about 15min walk to Ella with some hills. I wish the service was a little better, I felt sometimes I was an inconvenience when I asked for dinner and didn't feel the hospitality that I read in the reviews. I requested my breakfast to go on my last night since I had an early train to catch in the morning. I waited as long as I could but no one seemed to be awake. I ended up leaving with no breakfast and had to leave the payment on the table. To be fair it was very early (5.30 am) but this is a normal time to be up for hikes and catching trains.

We had a wonderful two nights here, family was absolutely great, breakfast fantastic and the rooms some of the nicest we've stayed in over our 3 week tour. Access is steep and uneven and may be a problem for those with mobility issues but our group of 4 range from late 50s to early 60s and it was fine. You can walk to Ella train station in about 15min and then downtown Ella in another 5min.

The journey to Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery in Ella may be rough due to the challenging road, but the destination is well worth the effort. After about 30 minutes of driving, you'll find yourself atop a mountain, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The monastery itself is a sight to behold, with its tranquil atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. The views from the top are simply stunning, offering a panoramic vista of the lush greenery and rolling hills below. However, it's worth noting that the monastery may give off a luxurious vibe, which seems to contradict the core principles of Buddhism, centered around simplicity. While this is only my personal opinion, I couldn't help but feel that the opulence of the place didn't quite align with the teachings of simplicity. That being said, the beauty of the location cannot be denied. It's a peaceful haven where one can truly connect with nature and find solace in its serenity. Whether you're a devout Buddhist seeking spiritual enlightenment or simply a traveler looking to immerse yourself in the beauty of Sri Lanka, Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery offers an experience like no other. The monastery remains a must-visit destination in Ella. Just be prepared for the rough journey to get there, and keep an open mind about the juxtaposition of luxury and simplicity within the setting. Ultimately, the awe-inspiring views and tranquil atmosphere make it a worthwhile visit.

Really peaceful and calm place. Awesome views. Temple is still under restoration, but only the exterior works remains. We met a monk, who explained for us the history of this place and Buddhism, showed temple, and gave advice on meditation and mantra reading. It was an extraordinary, interesting and useful experience for me.

Very nice location, good view and a Stupa, Bodhi Tree under construction. As a male foreigner you can stay here also overnight and learn about Buddhism and meditate. About 20 Monks are living here in huts on the mountain, some speak English. They are very welcoming and you can speak to them/ask questions. All services are free of charge, donations are welcome.

Although buddism encourages living a simple a life, this temple is nothing but simple. The designs are filled with rich gold colour and I can't get my mind together when surrounded by stuff like this.😑 Yet if you are considering to visit this as a tourist attraction I'd say it is worth it!

This monastery is located on top of a beautiful mountain. It’s almost 10km away from the town of Ella. You will capture some amazing views from the top. The monastery isn’t finished yet but highly recommended place to visit. There’s no entrance fee, you are welcomed to this place to explore it’s beauty.

I really loved the travel on a tuk tuk (3 wheeler, auto rickshaw) up the steep windy gravel road to the temple. The temple was peaceful and beautiful. A place where it is beautiful and quiet to meditate. Behind the beautiful temple under construction is a huge residence for the lovely Buddhist monks. They were so kind and sweet. I accidentally walked to the side where they don't allow tourists and I was taking photos of the beautiful flowers up there. They didn't stop me but let me take the photos and move on. The temple has really beautiful Buddha statues in white all around. There is also a meditation center with the Bodhi tree in the middle. The architecture is really something to admire. The time I had meditating was calming and energizing. The view from atop is grandiose. It is one of the most beautiful parts of the world. There is a beautiful created fountain of water that flows down. Something to admire. I hope the construction will be finished in the near future.

Such clam place for your mind. Still under construction. 100% worth it for hard travel. Bit difficult to travel in a average car. You have to travel about 15 mins from main road which is highly damaged to the rain. Recommended to stop the car near main road and take tuk to the temple. The view from the top is all worth it. You will amazed see a such a wonderful view from the top❤️

The temple is still under construction, no entrance fee. Has beautiful views of the surrounding areas from the top. Would be a long walk from Ella but if you have a scooter it’s worth checking out.

We came here just for sightseeing but a Monk talked to us and told us many things about buddhists and the life as a monk. And he also did a meditation with us. It was a unforgettable experience. I had a great time visiting this temple. The views are amazing. It was still under construction when I visited, so there was a lot of noise, but it was still worth it.

The most amazing place I've visited in Sri Lanka. This monastery is high up in the mountain, and is extremely beautiful, especially at sunset time and afterwards when it's getting dark. Great views. The experience there was perfect - the monks are so kind and willing to share their wisdom. I did a meditation session with a monk, who also showed me around the monastery and answered all of my questions. I wouldn't miss it. For anyone who's looking for a unique, interesting fulfilling experience around Ella - this is the place!

Very cool place! Breathtaking views and temple architecture! Just note that it is under construction for complete renovations until March 2024! All the same definitely worth a visit!

Major works at the monastery (march 24) and doesn't look like they will be done any time soon. Takes away quite a lot of magic. Else impressive view and architecture. Takes 20 min with a vehicle (very bad roads, sometimes it is a dust road). Free introductions starting from 16h30 (Buddhism, monestary, meditating).

Have to go about 4.5 km from the main road. You can go almost to the top. We enjoyed a beautiful view of the city and hill areas. Trying to find the railway track from up there was really fun to do. Still the place is under construction and will be completed by march 2024. Took quite a number of photos and will go again after 5 years to see the difference. There’s a coffee shop near the parking lot with a nice view and a photogenic background.

Fantastic monastery at the top of the mountain, still under construction. If you are in Ella, do not miss it. The approach road is a little worn out, but cars can still go to the top. Absolutely top notch views of the surrounding mountains from the monastery.

The monastery is well worth the visit! We were taken around by the monk and learned a lot about the history and plans for the temple. The construction of the main stupa and surrounding areas is underway. A lot of volunteers are working to complete the temple for the opening in summer 2024. The setting of the monastery and the temple is serene! Atop of one of the tallest mountains in the area, it offers stunning views and cleanest air. We saw people come here to medidtae under the Bodhi tree (which is the descendant from the original Bodhi tree brought from India long time ago)

Wow as you start your climb to Little Adam’s Peak you come face to face with the Zip Line. It’s not too long or high which was good because I was trembling. The staff are excellent and go through the equipment with you very clearly. When you get to the line, there are 2 guides. Again they explain where to hold on and how you must lean back when you get to the end. They then hook you up and as a second safely measure they swap and check each other’s work, which gave me confidence. The equipment and harness are in very good condition. Your then transported back up the hill to collect any bags you have stored in their secure lockers. Definitely a must do. It’s not too expensive either, only 20$ per person.

2/5 for rude staff behaviour at the safety gear room. It is on the route to Little Adams peak in ella, consists of a Zipline, ATV rides, Rifle training etc. Ecen though the experience was nice, some staffs were very rude. The zipline was quick, 700 mtr approx, the staff on decks checks and explains safety very well. They don't respect the timing provided on the tags, + you need to wait outside the safety gear room. If its a weekend you will end up waiting more. Bcz the gears need to be brought out from the finish point. First of all they prefer foreigners as they spend almost double price. Secondly some staff racially profiles & treats the customer, which is not acceptable whatsoever the excuse from the management.

Great attraction! Went to the zip line for my birthday, did not disappoint. Videography is pretty cheap, especially when compared to the global north’s tourist attractions. The drone does fly pretty high, so it looks sorta like random people doing the zip line, unless you look close, but it’s pretty cheap and worth it to just get a phone bag (which you can keep!) to secure your phone (I used a VR Insta360 camera in it, so that works too) and record. The complimentary ride back to the start is bumpy, and pretty long, but ultimately quite fun. There’s also a short walk to a great view, which is very worth doing, especially near dusk, when the lighting is perfect.

Had the best experience ever! The team is extremely professional and the whole set up is handled with safety being a key priority. So many activities to do once you get to base camp and trust me your money is worth it! Advance booking is not needed and they have good system to ensure you don’t stay in any lines. Be sure to check it out!

One of the very best locations for adventure. They have a Mega Zipline, all-terrain vehicles, and a shooting range. They also provide action cameras, so there is no need to worry if you don't already have any. There is a very low risk. It comes highly recommended! The staff is very knowledgeable and takes their time to explain everything to you. There are two guides waiting for you when you get to the line. Once more, they explain where to hold on and how you should lean back when you reach the end of the passage. They then connect you to each other and, as a secondary safety measure, they swap and check each other's work, which instilled confidence in me. The equipment, including the harness, is in excellent condition. After that, you are transported back up the hill to retrieve any bags that you have stashed away in their secure lockers. Absolutely essential to carry out. It is also not overly expensive, coming in at only 3000 LKR per person for zip line.

Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I made contact with them to book prior but they advised to just show up when we wanted. I was skeptical as I’d tried to book via an agent online but it wasn’t available. Lone behold, we were seen to straight away and got to do the zip line no issues! We paid for the photography package which is really well priced. You can rent go pros for a good price too if you would like. Lots of safety checks were performed, no queuing time. It doesn’t last very long however it is the largest zip line in South Asia which is very cool. Would recommend :) My first time to do Zip line the experience was amazing the place the nature everything was absolutely great also we did the shooting i loved it we climbed to the top of the mountain. It is highly recommended if you visit Ella to go to this place 😇

Fun experience! A bit of a walk from the car park to the launch site with some stairs and a small hill. Easy access to little Adam’s Peak, which is worth the climb! Photos from the Zipline came to me on WhatsApp via a Google drive link FYI. The staff checked my harness 3 times which I appreciated! Pro tip: When you first approach the site, be sure to scan the QR code and fill out the consent forms, and then go in to purchase your ticket/packages etc.

A must visit place in Ella but gets pretty crowded during holidays. Too bad we missed the opportunity as we were too early (passed by place on our way back from little Adam's Peak). Looks like a well organized, tidy place and well managed place. Hope to enjoy the Zipline at our next visit.

The activity is good but the safety gear room staff is very very disappointed. They mentioned the zip line starting time on the wrist band but.it is never happening on time we have to wait at the lobby. Until they finish there private talks and gossips. When I go and told them if you mentioned the time you have to start it on time then the guy straight away told me it is not their fault (so I thought he get his salary from somewhere else) and informed to the receptionist. So that is how the things happened if you are in limited time don’t ever go because they take more time that you expect

We had SOOOOOOO much fun!! Honestly it was the best. We went twice on the Zipline. First time was LKR 5000/pp (local). But the repeat ride is only LKR 2500/pp (local). It was such a great experience. Loved it❤️!!
