Terracotta Warriors of Xi'an China. Worth seeing if you ever get the chance. This place is amazing. There are so many things to see here and the story behind this site is incredible. I would highly recommend visiting here to any tourist.

Pretty easy to get to (at least from Zhonglou station as there are shuttle buses from around there) but not so simple to return back to Xi’an. I ultimately had to take a cab to a nearby subway station and take the train from there. Getting inside the museum is a hassle as there are a lot of artificial obstructions to stem the flow of literally tens of thousands of people visiting everyday. You can pay for the ticket via WeChat by reading a QR code but if you don’t have its payment option available, you’re going to need to go inside the ticketing station to pay physically (which is rarely done by the locals themselves and is almost completely empty). The actual Terracotta Army is fantastic but the behavior of the tourists leave a lot to be desired. Constantly pushing, shoving, jostling for a better vantage point, completely needless of who might be walking where, stepping on people’s feet, yelling, smoking, honestly it’s genuinely miserable. There’s a small cinema there (VR) but it’s a whole 68 RMB for a ticket (not included in the 120 RMB I paid for the museum ticket) so I left without watching.

The terra cotta sculpture and Qin bronze chariot are definitely stunning. There were too many people visiting at the same time even on weekdays and the arrangement from the management could have been better (setting a constant audience flow, letting people sit at a place to watch movies/recording). If you want less crowded time, try visit 丽山园 first and go to terra cotta around 4:50 pm. Be sure to reserve at least a few days ahead!

Is a great place to visit as if you like history. From 1974, they started to restore the item till now, but they still haven't finished, I really respect all the worker of their hard work. If you come in peak season, recommend to buy ticket first.

After coming here i can only say Xi'an and the Emperor's tomb is the 1st place i should have visited in China. Do not omit to visit the 2nd part including additional tombs and the museum of the bronze chariots, using the bus starting from the entrance of the main museum.

Took the sleeper train from Shanghai to Xian. Really odd to have different sleepers below me on the 12 +hour journey. Comfortable and inexpensive. No English spoken at Xian. I photographed all the places I wanted to see. Station, left luggage etc. if in doubt in China ask for Hilton hotel. Even if there isn’t one, the driver will go to the city centre. Got to the warrior site. So big. So stunning. I went around five o clock. No queues. Could easily see around the pits. It was an amazing experience. Taxis will always try and rip you off. I got a lift back to the station from some Chinese looking hippies. Mad to get in their car but…..

Its one of the greatest excavations of this century. An amazing work carefully done by the experts. There are 3 halls explored so far, hall 1 is the most excavated one with hundreds of human sized sculptures recivered and rstored. The formations and deployment of the troops decoded by chinese experts is amazing. These were created by the 1st chinese emperor of unified imperial china qin shin during 259 to 210 bc. Over 2300 years old work of art is a must see place if you are visiting xian. There is a VR movie theatre also which amplifies the experience. The parking area is about 10 minutes walk from the main halls. At times there is significant rush in hall 1 and it gets pretty much crowdy and stuffy. Its a wonderful place to see, a historic land mark and a great work of art

Needless to say how much a wonder this place is Just want to give advice that there is always a crowd there. Best to avoid holiday times it might take hours to get it. I went there around 830 and I didn’t have to wait and found it very easy to get around and take photos. The crowd usually in tours arrive around 10 so beat the crowd. If not you can still try to go during lunch time or before it is closed. Always book a ticket in advance with your ID or passport

During my trip to China, I finally visited a place I had heard about countless times in the news and movies. The site was packed with tourists, both Asians and non-Asians, making it quite crowded even during non-peak seasons. While the historical stories fascinated me, the actual physical view of the place left me feeling less awestruck than expected. Despite the crowds, the surrounding area was commercialized, but prices remained reasonable. If you're Asian, chances are you've encountered this place in media. I recommend a visit for the historical value, especially with a tour guide to delve into its stories. However, manage your expectations; it's a brief 1.5-hour visit. Personally, I don't plan on returning unless the tomb of the first emperor is excavated. Once was enough for me.

Discovered accidentally in March 1974, this remarkable Mausoleum Site of First Emperor of Qin has included a Terracotta Army consisting more than 8000 Soldiers, as well as Weapons, Horses and Carriages. Constructed between 263 to 208 BC, this Mausoleum Site of Emperor of Qin was built to resemble XianYang -- the Capital City of Qin Dynasty. Served as Garrison to the Mausoleum, the Terracotta Warriors are life sized and arranged in Army Formations. Located around 40 kms from XiAn City Centre, it is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and a very Popular Tourist Attraction. There are plenty nice photos online already, I am uploading two from my visit as recommendation.

Visited in 2019, definitely one of the most significant historical sites in China! Very impressive scale, can’t imagine how much resources was poured into making this thousands of years ago!

This is the best ever China Historical experience. Really impressive and very inspiring my heart. Cannot imagine how the Qin Emperor can create such a huge impact result. Must go of you visit Xi'an. Located around 1 hour driving distance. Can take Metro or bus. Very convenient. Entrance fee is CNY120, must online purchase and easy to access.

It was an educational trip, the guide was extremely helpful and funny. However I have to knock 1 star off because there were too many random guides trying to sell me their service or bring me to a ship and try to convince me to buy something.

We bought the 2 entrance tickets to Terracotta army and Mausoleum, online. Then we took a premium taxi (Didi) from Xian downtown to the Terracotta Army location. This is much cheaper and more flexible arrangement than joining a tour. There is an audio guide so we could follow the 'story' of the place and history behind all that. We bought tickets to go on a ride around the mausoleum, which is a vast complex (feeling tired after long walks in Terracotta army site, a different site to the mausoleum). We spend about 2 hours to see all we can see there, most time was spent to queue for the ride. The king horses exhibition is worth seeing, especially for a materials engineer like me. Amazing materisls technology for c200 BC. Great place to go, but just too crowded to enjoy the exhibition.

Crowded, very crowded, even a pouring rain. But this is a once in a lifetime, bucket-list, do it again experience. The complex is huge and filled with extraordinary exhibits. The ¥170 entry fee is a bargain for the sights you will see. Indescribable.

We began with the Exposition building, which was the perfect choice. It started with an detailed explanation on one of the Warriors, his look, hairstyle, height, mood, very interesting that all warriors have individual characters! After visiting the exposition building and all 3 pits, we went out and took the bus to the emperors mausoleum area, that is the part that hasn’t been explored yet. Instead of purchasing the electric car ticket, we just walked to the mausoleum (10mins walk) and end the day. Very nice experience

Great experience. Together with the Great Wall tells you why was China such great empire, and why it is becoming again. However, it can be a bit crowdy. Official parking available at very enterance, so don't react to many parking offers before. Personal guides with questionable English knoweledge available at enterence. Price starts from 50 eur, but it is nagotionable. Better solution is to take electronic guide available at the counter before entetence, with price between 5 and 10 eur. Try to buy souvenires as close to the exit gate as possible, because prices are lower than closer to the exhibition halls.

A must see in a lifetime! Such an amazing place to visit - 2000 yrs old history.. a must see truly. Now - to get there and visit properly - you must go on an organised tour. Foreigners cant buy tickets - also not possible on arrival. You have to ask a Chinese national to buy them for you or again go on a bigger tour. You must have your ID with you which is strange for visiting a museum. The crowds are proportionate to the number of people in China so have patience. Security like at the airport.

Great museum with intriguing history of China. Recommended to get a tour guide (available in different languages) as there is no poster or text around the museum. We went there in November during the low season so there weren’t many tourists around. There were only squat toilets available for women ( which is common around Xian).

Really an exciting place to visit. Being able to see the still standing statues in person brings on a whole new expeiance. It's a great site to learn and view historic statues. Especially the mausoleum, it is a must visit for those in Xi'an.

Terracotta Museum is worth visiting, great history of Chinese civilization can be viewed, not many places have old cultural artifacts like you see in Xi'an

Incredible, spectacular history of ancient China. There are three museums altogether. These museums are so popular that there are always long queues. Recommend to visit as early as possible to avoid the huge crowds and to get the better position to see the worriers. The inside of the No. 1 museum getting quite hot during summer as there is no air conditioner.

Okay, okay, okay.... why are you thinking I have the "warrior's" a 5 star ⭐️ review? Well, first off, I give the Chinese a huge hats off for pulling this off!! They are the masters of creativity and illusions. The mere thought of a stadium of this magnitude with literally thousands of these warriors buried and meticulously excavated in less than 2 years, build a structure, and ready for display is not possible.... plus, they have a small display in the rear of this ginormous football stadium depicting as though humans are still dusting off some of their findings.... its literally comical. Anyway, the few terracotta warrior's that were found are actually in building 1 and are rich milk chocolate looking and are protected by little lighting. I'm thinking the government wanted to exaggerate the findings with something more attractive by building a huge stadium and meticulously placing all these clay creations in a "pit-excavation" style display for a "your money's worth" attraction. Anyway, its my opinion, but ironically my son in law and myself were gazing across this magnificent stadium and literally turned and looked at each other almost on perfect cue and said, "are you thinking what I'm thinking"???? Not as spectacular by a long way as the Terracotta Army but interesting and a lot less crowded. It is all underground and you need to spend a little time orientating yourself and figure out what leads to where and it's position relative to the actual tomb (which has not as yet been opened up). Still impressive to see all these terracotta soldiers are still there after thousands of years.

Very impressive walls with an imposing facade and a beautiful moat. Possible to get on top and walk along it. Very well preserved.

Entrance fee CNY54, bought on the spot via Wechat and entered via the South entrance, which is where the metro exit D1 leads to. At level 2 of the city wall, there's a centerpiece of the entire area and a staff comes by at designated times to give a brief of it. Lucky to catch the 4pm one and got a better understanding of how the city wall came to be and possibly the origin of the term '买东西' , stemming from the only 2 markets at that time 东市 (local market)＆ 西市 (international one where they traded with 西域). The entire wall is 6km long but I've clocked enough steps for the day, so I walked for just a stretch along the city wall, entering from 永宁门 and exited thru 文昌门.

Visited in December. Go up anywhere in the 4 Cardinal direction gates and rent some bikes. It's pretty fun and a good workout. It took us 1.5 hours on a tandem bike, stopping along the way. There are restaurants and restrooms at the top. The south gate is the fanciest. Tandem bike was 90 rmb for 3 hours with a 100 rmb security deposit.

Great Wall of Xi'an is a well known place in the city, it's very famous and old as it's an ancient wall like the great wall of china, you need to pay 100 yuan to enter it, there is also discount for students 50% if u have your student ID card with you, during Chinese new year celebrations it's very crowded and marvelous cuz Chinese celebrations are amazing, 10 days before the spring festival you will see a lot of red lanterns around the city as it's traditional way of celebration to hang the red lanterns as a sign of welcoming the new year with prosperity and happiness. The wall is very long and you can ride bicycle to explore all the wall, also Chinese respect bicycles a lot as it's very important in their culture.

UNESCO World Heritage Site Visited Oct 2015 The fortifications of Xi'an known as Xi'an City Wall, in Xi'an, represent one of the oldest, largest and best preserved Chinese city walls. It was built under the rule of the Hongwu Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang as a military defense system. It exhibits the "complete features of the rampart architecture of feudal society". It has been refurbished many times since it was built in the 14th century, thrice at intervals of about 200 years in the later half of the 1500s and 1700s, and in recent years in 1983. The wall encloses an area of about 14 square kilometres (5.4 sq mi).

X'ian Wall is a great place to visit during your trip to X'ian. Visit during sunset time to get the best views. Do try the bike ride available on the wall. Few bike rentals available on the wall, a bit expensive but worth the experience to ride a bike on the wall. Lot of food stalls also available on the wall. They do have some laser shows also few times a week, do check that before visiting.

It was such a fun and nice day on the wall! We had a tour guide who took us through all the must places and let us explore most of it on our own. The weather was so nice and I learned so much about the evolution of bicycles and their importance to the Chinese culture.

History moments not to be missed while visiting Xi'An

A wonderful place to visit. Go there after sunset and enjoy the beautiful architecture covered in colorful lights. The street is full with hundreds of vendors selling local street food and artistic products. The food is genuinely tasty. Everything is so colorful and lively. A must visit spot on Xi'an.

We then continued to the Muslim quarter, starting at the market, one of my favourite parts because it offers a wide range of colourful street food, for all budgets and tastes. We got a bit “lost” and perplexed …of all the movement around here, so many people walking by, vendors offering their products, what a vibrant and full-of-life street. !. We also learned about the history of how the Muslims arrived here and Silk Road route and merchants, a walk past in time..We then arrived at the Great Mosque.

Love place to get souvenirs and special street food. Very crowded which does make it full of energy

When visiting Xi’an you must spend an evening in the Muslim quarter. The highlight of the quarter are the bustling night markets which offer a range of local and Chinese street food. Whilst on the more expensive side and geared at tourists, these facts make the market no less exhilarating and fun. It’s also really easy to try a large range of different dishes without committing to anything too large and expensive.

Such a great place to visit! Excellent fresh food street after street. Lively, entertaining, and very reasonably priced. Love this place....a must when in Xi'an!!

Incredible street food - home of cumin lamb skewers, Liang pi noodles, and more.

It was closed by the time I got there but it was definitely a nice area with lots of families enjoying their day and tons of modern buildings built in traditional Tang style.

One of the landmark buildings in Xi'an. It was built in c. 648 – c. 649 during the Tang dynasty and originally had five stories. It was rebuilt in 704 during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian and its exterior brick façade was renovated during the Ming dynasty. According to wiki, "One of the pagoda's many functions was to hold sutras and figurines of Gautama Buddha that were brought to China from India by the seventh-century Buddhist monk, scholar, traveller, and translator Xuanzang. Today, the interior walls of the pagoda feature engraved statues of Buddha by the renowned 7th-century artist Yan Liben." So there is quite a lot of history, Buddhism and literature related to it, the most famous of which is "Journey to the west" for average Chinese.

Within walking distance from the Shaanxi History Museum, another major attraction awaits visitors to Xi'an. The musical fountain will provide some thrilling entertainment if you approach the site from the right direction and time. Stay long enough to enjoy the sight when the pagoda is lighted up. Don't forget also the bronze statue of Xuanzang 玄奘, the main character in the 16th century classic novel "Journey to the West. He's the "real McCoy" and of course don't start looking for the fictitious Monkey King statue. 😄😉

Beautiful place with lots of people around throughout the day. Lots of street vendors, photoshoots, food, and shopping going on around the plaza. Datang everbright city is also within walking distance and a must do if in the area. Clean public restrooms available!

25 yuan to go up the pagoda and another fee to go inside the grounds. The stairs are narrow. There are good views of the surrounding areas. There is a free check in bag area next to the ticket area. The bells swinging at the waves of the pagoda creates a nice mood as the wind blows. There are no remnants of the Buddhist scriptures but there are some plaques on the first level. It was worth the fee to go up for the views. There is even an earthquake meter inside.

There is an amazing history here. Amazing and beautiful architecture. It is very solemn and serene here. This is the repository of important Budhist texts brought back from India by the monk that inspired the book "Journey to the West" There are real toilets in some of the bathrooms. At night there is a spectacular light/water show. This is a whir of activity. Street vendors, food, artists, acrobats and people, people, people. The whole area surrounding this place is very active. It is amazing being at enormous cities like this at night and not being afraid.

Very amazing. The history takes you back to India, and even across Central Asia and South East Asia, which were a part of the journey as well. The greatness of the story, and the passion of the man increases the beauty of the place. From the windows of the pagoda, you can also a get a nice, panoramic view of the city.

Tickets to the Drum and Bell Tower cost 30 RMB respectively but you can get a combined ticket for 50 RMB. Easy to walk to the tower through an underground passage. Great views of the entire city and a nice museum on the inside showcasing plans of the tower.

Amazing building in the centre of Xian. Built in 1384, just after the Drum Tower, during the Ming dynasty. It also contains bronze bells from the Tang dynasty.

Great view both day and night, sunny day or snowy day.. view at night is better with all the lights lighting up the sky. When I visited Xi'an, the hotel was just a short walk from it, so I always got to see it. It's a hotspot for tourists, so expect to see big crowds at times also with girls in ancient costumes.

The Bell Tower of Xi'an has outlived its purpose of telling time at dawn. This majestic structure is now the centrepiece of a very busy intersection and a tourist attraction. Surrounded by this ancient capital city's main thoroughfares and colourful flower beds. View from a distance at night, it's even more breath-taking😘

The entrance was a little confusing though. The underground signs say Exit 7, but actually the more accurate location should be the exit from metro Line 2 escalator (as one comes up from metro platform to the roundabout exits). The ticketing area is an automated self-service one but requires a local ID so I had to ask the staff for help and she used her ID to bypass the system for me. Later realised I could have just bought it on the CTrip app too, since the automated system uses Ctrip's system too. The prices are the same. Entrance fees are CNY30 per tower or CNY50 for both. The entrance to the Bell Tower is just beside the ticketing area. Followed the path through security checks and finally made it to the Bell Tower, which sits in the middle of the city in a roundabout. The Bell Tower was critical in the past to indicate time. Hence, there are a number of such similar towers in other cities such as Beijing. Today, it's more of a historic presence and showcase of ancient finess in architecture and construction. The architectural structure, the drawings within, the construction of such a huge bell.

It is a wonderful place and good tourist destination in Xian. The bell tower has four entrances to the bus and subway. Bell tower very close to the Drum Tower and the Muslim quarter. If anyone wants to visit Xi'an China then the bell tower and surrounding area is worth your time… all facilities are available…... Night view is fantastic 😎🇮🇳🤝🇨🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳

A good tourist destination in Xi'an and it is made special by the exquisite cuisine street just along side it. This tower can be accessed from any of the nearest buses or subway and has four different entrances. I would not recommend buying a ticket for going on the top though. There isn't anything special up there. The street food along side is just fantastic! You should try different snacks, pomegranate juice (one of the Xi'an special), the process of making the sugar. P.S: The beauty of this tower comes out at night! Do visit it at night and you will be amazed.

One of excellent point in central Xian I have visited this place in 2019 and really love it the price of tickets was really great they also give 50% discount for students. i will suggest you to visit this place from 11am to 1pm if you wanted to see traditional drum performance.

The Bell Tower of Xi'an built in 1384 during the early ming dinasty, is a symbol of the city of xian. On October 10, 1939, the Xi'an Bell Tower was bombed by Japanese planes and was seriously damaged. Has a jingyun bell outside the building. Together with the drum tower a must visit. Very nice location in the city center and many good food spots around.

Very pretty. You will see loads of youngsters using old dynasties dresses for pictures (which itself is fun to watch). Is a huge building equal to Beijing. As one of the four old capital of China is worth to visit !

You have to pre book ticket, and you should chose the earliest time, I dont know if they clean everyday but I go on Tuesday 12h30 and the glass is like full of fingerprints you can hardly see thing anymore And they are not foreigners friendly you can not have ticket if you are just go to the ticket counter and book it sucks The exhibition is ok

A world-class museum with multiple pieces at the national treasure level (highest possible). Hint: an ancient piece with scripts on it is likely to be a national treasure. Brilliant museum but the queue to get in where out of control took almost 2 hours. Wouldn't recommend in the peak of heat or if you can try book tickets. Otherwise this museum is brilliant and well worth going.

A great place to see a lot of Tang dynasty art and murals. It was pretty packed and stuffy when we went (prior to COVID), and it wasn't the most peaceful museum experience, with people yelling, tour groups pushing and it just gave an overall chaotic experience to the museum. Our main reason for coming here was to see the Tang dynasty murals that are housed here. This is a separate entrance fee ($35 USD at the time) and you're required to wear shoe coverings and no pictures are allowed. This exhibit was extraordinarily quiet and peaceful and the murals are displayed in a captivating and powerful way, reminiscent of their original home in the tombs. Note that although some scrolls in this exhibit portray themselves to be authentic, many of them are actually replicas, as the actual scrolls are in museums abroad. Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be different.

This is a great museum that focuses on the region and its role in the history of China over the past ~10000 years. I was amazed by just how important it has been. Very good layout and has a fair amount of English content descriptions. A visit is a great compliment to the much more famous terra cotta soldiers/emperor"s burial sites. Tickets are required and if you are a senior they are free, but a bit complicated to get--several lines and lines may be long. A guide can be useful but seems audio guides only in Chinese.

1) Great Museum and book ahead before you go - need to bring ID etc. 2) Set time booking - so arrive at the agreed timing 3) Very busy even at a non holiday period - so expect crowds 4) When I went Oct 2023 - it was very warm inside building, no fans or aircon, so be prepared. Seating is only in the main entrance with the giant stone statue. 5) Dont walk the Xi'an City walls and then go straight to Museum - you will be very tired (lesson learnt)

The museum is not foreigner friendly. Warning: you need to book tickets in advance. For someone has no Chinese phone number or WeChat, plus their official English website booking page broke, it is impossible to book a ticket. I tried to explain at the ticket service but couldn't get the same day ticket. Best they could do is book one for me in three days.

A must visit museum in Xi'an. It is the largest museum in Xi'an describing the history from the Chin dynasty to the Qing dynasty. By far the most informative museum in Xi'an. You can skip other museums if you have covered this one. Pro tip: 1) This museum gives online free tickets (reserved until 2500 entries per day) on their website. Check one week before your intended plan of visit day. 0therwsie the free tickets will run out of stock. 2) If you miss the online tickets, you could still buy the usual tickets (30 CNY) from their website and book the time slot. This is absolutely necessary. Do not just turn up to buy the tickets on the spot. You won't get any! 3) For the special exhibition of the mural paintings from the Tang dynasty (270 CNY), I would suggest to give it a skip if you are not a history buff. For a usual person, it is not that interesting as those are only the paintings on the stone wall. If you are a history expert, then you may be interested in it.

By far one of the coolest mosques we've been to, and one of our favorite places in Xi'an. The mosque is stunning and blends in Chinese architecture and Islamic forms/buildings in beautiful and fascinating ways. There are many buildings and courtyards in the complex, each packed with details that'll make you excited to be there. Walking through the market on the way out was lots of fun, with lots of food and souvenir options.

It is located in an excellent place. You can pray and have a good walk around Muslim street. Lots of variety of halal food available to taste. People are very kind and you can enjoy it.

One of the oldest mosques in Xi'an, in the corner of the Muslim Quarter of Xi'an. In Zhonglou District which is very famous and full of Muslims, The Architure of the mosque is very old and unique, If you want to spend peaceful time and pray it's where you should go.

The Great Mosque is one of the oldest and the largest best-preserved Islamic mosque in China. It was built-in 742 AD. For me, it did look more like a landscape beautiful garden than the fixed idea I had of a mosque. A fascinating combination of Chinese courtyards and Muslim architecture. The mosque is still active as many Muslims come here to pray and attend religious events.

There is much to be admired about the place, as a lot of the original features have been carefully preserved.

Stunning mosque in the Ming style. A fascinating mixture of Arabic and Chinese style, both Chinese characters and Arabic script can be found around the courtyard. Xi'an is a beautiful city with much more to offer than just the Terra Cotta Warriors.

It’s the dead center of town where the Silk Road merchants used to start their journeys out west. Now, it is full of shops and tourists heading to the Muslim street.

It was closed by the time I got there but it was definitely a nice area with lots of families enjoying their day and tons of modern buildings built in traditional Tang style.

The musical fountain will provide some thrilling entertainment if you approach the site from the right direction and time. Stay long enough to enjoy the sight when the pagoda is lighted up. Don't forget also the bronze statue of Xuanzang 玄奘, the main character in the 16th century classic novel "Journey to the West. He's the "real McCoy" and of course don't start looking for the fictitious Monkey King statue. 😄😉

Beautiful place with lots of people around throughout the day. Lots of street vendors, photoshoots, food, and shopping going on around the plaza. Datang everbright city is also within walking distance and a must do if in the area. Clean public restrooms available!

25 yuan to go up the pagoda and another fee to go inside the grounds. The stairs are narrow. There are good views of the surrounding areas. There is a free check in bag area next to the ticket area. The bells swinging at the waves of the pagoda creates a nice mood as the wind blows. There are no remnants of the Buddhist scriptures but there are some plaques on the first level. It was worth the fee to go up for the views. There is even an earthquake meter inside.

There is an amazing history here. Amazing and beautiful architecture. It is very solemn and serene here. This is the repository of important Budhist texts brought back from India by the monk that inspired the book "Journey to the West" There are real toilets in some of the bathrooms. At night there is a spectacular light/water show. This is a whir of activity. Street vendors, food, artists, acrobats and people, people, people. The whole area surrounding this place is very active. It is amazing being at enormous cities like this at night and not being afraid.

The greatness of the story, and the passion of the man increases the beauty of the place. From the windows of the pagoda, you can also a get a nice, panoramic view of the city.

Interesting place and lots of historical buildings. Even a hotel within so you can stay in. It is better to get a guide when you arrive that can take you around to where you want to go. Tours, like what we went on, just took us to all the Tang dynasty bath houses, which, although historical, didn't really interest me after seeing the first one or two. Most of them are dried up and are just holes in the ground. Lots of photo opportunities.

For those looking for a challenge make sure to bring your hiking shoes! We went during the off season so no shows and renovation works.

A popular place of interest for tourists and locals. Everything here is newly built like many of the tourist attractions in China. The highlight of this place must be the old bath houses of the emperors and empresses. it is dry now and I wonder where does the hot spring flows to? Highly recommended if you are a huge Tang history fan. However, the landscaping of the Palace good and it is very well maintained, so there is a lot of photo opportunities.

Nice visit. I suggest to get a guide otherwise the visit would be a lot less interesting. It also helps if you know a bit about Chinese history as this place transcends through the history. The ground is big enough that you can avoid large groups of people that you typically encounter in China.

A must to watch show when visit Xi'an! Please do check on the availability as they are closed for winter from Nov onwards. Peak periods are hard to get tickets even for the locals. Need to provide ID/passport to purchase tickets. The stage set up is outdoor, just enjoy the fantastic experience!

Really interesting with the little stories about how the emperor and the concubines used the facilities. Will take about 2 hours to go through it all. You can see remains of the bathhouses used during Tang dynasty. I would recommend that you combine this with a cable car ride to the top of the nearby mountain as well as the park Tang Paradise.

If you are not history lover, you may skip this park considering the entrance fee is not cheap (rmb 120). But since I'm a history lover, i'll still give this place a 4 rating. This park is located half way on the road to Qinshihuang Mausoleum Museum. Bus fare is rmb 6 from Xi'an station East square. It is recommended to visit Huaqing park before heading to Qinshihuang Mausoleum Museum (bus fare rmb 3). It's easier to hike a bus with empty seat from xi'an to a bus returning. If you're a foreigner, I strongly recommend you to hire a guide (they provide guide service at entrance). Otherwise you would not understand most part of the park. The park are rebuilt contemporary to reflect Tang's royal bath. As far as museums go in China, this one was particularly well done. Most of the stuff in the museum was translated into English, and there was so much to look at. Giant rooms full of pottery, jewelry and sculpture, some of which are more than 2000 years old. If you aren't really into art, there is an impressive amount of historical information and perspective on the more than 2500 year history of Xi'an. And to top it all off, the museum its is free (at least it was the day I went, as the Small Wild Goose Pagoda was closed for climbing due to renovations). The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is really cool and dripping with history, making it a must-see in Xi'an, and while you're there, you absolutely need to stop in this museum. You won't regret it

The night lightings were awesome. It's a pretty huge place. Be prepared to walk quite a bit. There are some shows going on inside but it requires certain additional add-on to be purchased when you buy the ticket.

As the name of this place indicates, it is a museum of historical gravestones in China. The entry ticket is inexpensive as part of the museum was not open due to renovation work in progress. Just be mindful this museum is deeply involved with Chinese history and calligraphy. Even for people growing up in China, going there without a professional guide can be hard, as you won't get much by just looking at the displays themselves. Highly recommend visiting by attending a tour if you are interested in Chinese history and calligraphy.

I don't recall there being any English there, or many explanatory plaques/signs in any language. This was a few years back, though, so it could have changed. As a preface to all my reviews of China, note that Google will not work when you get here. You will need a VPN downloaded before you get here. This place is known as the 'forest of steles'. It contains steles (edicts written on stone) from many dynasties and is historically significant. This museum also contains a lot of Buddhist/Hindu artifacts on the east side of the compound. You should definitely go to see the nestorian stele, possibly the first race of Christianity in China. However, it's not very accommodating to English speaking tourists (though nothing this deep in China really is). If you go, bring a tour guide that can explain the significance of things. Also, a lot of the compound is cheap trinkets and gifts.

Worth visiting if you have already hit up the other big tourist attractions in the area. They have excavated a village from 6000 years ago. Lots of earthen jars used to bury children. The outside activities were all closed when we went (January).

Close to Subway Line 1 - Banpo Station (Exit A) If you have the time, this is an interesting place to vist. 6000 year old relics & remnants of a civilization is something you don't see every day. Original excavation sites makes this visit interesting. This place doesn't have the grander of the Terracotta Warriors, But it is fascinating in its own realm. Surrounding tall buildings makes you wonder (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot) the city planners were thinking when they allowed all the construction- makes you wonder how much history was destroyed. Not crowded during the visit; 55CNY entrance fee in October 2019.

Absolute gem. Tells you a lot about how the Neanderthals in Xi’an 6000 years ago lived and built their houses. It is also very accessible by the nearby Banpo metro station.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "must see" but it isn't every day you see 6000 year old skeletons. Some of the museum buildings look run down and derelict but the main excavation site building is pretty incredible and the gallery has some interesting exhibits. I'd say go there if you have time!

One of the popular tourist destinations in Xi'an. It shows the history of how the Buddhism spread into China during the Tang dynasty. The Pagoda structure in itself is not anything spectacular to view however the park in which the Pagoda is located is beautiful and serene. Such a calm place with some trees as old as around 800 years. Good place for a relaxed time. Pro tip: No entry charges. Get free entry by showing your ID cards (passport for foreign nationals and Chinese ID for Chinese nationals). The ticket includes the entry to the Xi'an museum. Don't buy the music show tickets. Not that recommended.

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is one of the must see heritage sites for visitors to Xian. It was built between the years 707 and 709 AD during the reign of Emperor Zhongzong 唐中宗. The pagoda was designed to store precious Buddhist scriptures brought back to China from far away India, where Buddhism was born. Originally standing at 45 meters, the brick-built pagoda was shortened by a couple of meters after it was damaged in an earthquake in 1556. Not long ago, visitors were still allowed to scale its internal stairs and climb to the top of the 15 level pagoda. Then came the day when the condition of the pagoda deteriorated to the point when it had to be closed to the public over safety concern. My friends and I visited the pagoda on a day of dark clouds and a light drizzle. We reached its bottom after walking through a nice garden filled with assorted flowering trees like the cherry blossom. My friends didn’t find anything impressive with the pagoda and continued on after just a minute. Equipped with a camera with a telephoto lens, I was able to take a much closer look of the pagoda. With simple lines and a lack of intricacy, the Pagoda may look simple and unimpressive. However, when I reminded myself that this is a structure which was built 1410 years ago and has survived since then, the pagoda immediately earned a marked significance on its own right. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda has played an integral role in Chinese history, especially the part it played in the development and spread of Buddhism in China.

Went there about 6 years ago on a school trip and it was very lovely! It's peaceful and beautiful, and the shop owners around the area were nice. I'd definitely suggest checking it out if you're in XiAn. (attached is a photo I took there in the spring)

Beautiful place and a very nice park.Very historical place ;peaceful;like going back in time.Entrance is free for tourists :just show your passport.Also must visit the museum:so nice!!!!

Definitely one of the must-see attractions in Xi'an. Standing over 100 feet tall and composed of the exact same bricks in the exact same manner as when it was constructed over 13 centuries ago (save for some minor damage from earthquakes and time itself) this is one of the oldest original buildings you're going to find in the world. A center of scholarship and religion for centuries, as well as the terminus of the silk road, to say this place is full of history is an understatement. And to top it all off the entrance to the scenic area is free. There is a fee to climb the pagoda, but I can't say how much it is because the pagoda itself was closed for renovations when I went (although the renovations in no way affected the ability to see and marvel at its beauty, or appreciate its history). If you ever make it to Xi'an, this should be at or very near the top of your list of things to visit.

This is a much better visit than the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in my opinion. Firstly, this Pagoda is the original one which stood since the 7th century unlike the bigger sibling. Secondly, this site has many other cultural workshops where you can see the locals and kids interact with. Thirdly, it’s surrounded by ancient trees and shades which is not as hot and pleasing to walk around. Fourthly, this park complex directly next to the Xi’an museum which shows many artifacts and relics. Lastly, it is completely free including the Xi’an museum.

Small Wild Goose Pagoda is a good place to visit. It is located inside a park and next to the Xi’an Museum. Worth to go.
